Deuteronomy, Chapter 2.1: Honor Jehovah your God in all parts of your life (12:1 - 16:17)

Introduction: Jehovah and the place which He chooses to worship shall be the first priority for all Israelites (12:1 - 27)

¶Opposite   Make Jehovah your God your first and only focus of worship (12:1 - 12)

¶Opposite   The place which Jehovah shall choose shall be the only place where burnt offerings and sacrifices are made (12:13 - 27)

Body: Anyone who tries to lure you away from the one true God Jehovah to worship another god shall be put to death (12:28 - 13:18)

¶Opposite   Do not be curious about the worship of other gods (12:28 - 30)

¶Opposite   You shall not incorporate the worship of other gods into the worship of Jehovah (syncretism) (12:31 - 32)

¶Complement   You shall put the false prophets and dreamers to death (13:1 - 5)

¶Complement   If your relative or family member tries to lure you away to worship other gods, you shall put them to death (13:6 - 11)

¶Unique   If the people of a city go after false gods, then you shall make war against it and destroy it utterly (13:12 - 18)

Conclusion: Serve Jehovah with good works and worship according to the Law (14:1 - 16:17)

¶Complement   Be generous and kind to the poor among you (14:1 - 15:18)

¶Complement   Observe the three major Feasts every year in the place which Jehovah shall choose (15:19 - 16:17)

§Unique   Introduction: Sacrifice only to Jehovah in the place which He shall choose; and do not eat the blood (12:1 - 27)

¶Opposite   The place which Jehovah shall choose shall be the only place where burnt offerings and sacrifices are made (12:1 - 12)

^12:1These are the Statutes and Judgments, which you shall observe to do in the land, which Jehovah, God of your fathers, is giving you to possess it, all the days that you live upon the earth.

^12:2You shall utterly destroy all the places, in which the nations which you shall possess served their gods: upon the high mountains, upon the hills, and under every green tree. ^12:3And you shall overthrow their altars, break their pillars, and burn their images of Asherah with fire; and you shall cut down the statues of their gods, and destroy the names of them out of that place.

^12:4You shall not do this to Jehovah your God. ^12:5But to the place which Jehovah your God shall choose out of all your tribes to put his Name there, even to his habitation shall you seek, and there you shall go; ^12:6and there shall you bring your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes, heave offerings of your hand, your vows, your freewill offerings, and the firstborn of your herds and of your flocks; ^12:7and you shall eat there before Jehovah your God; and you shall rejoice in all that you put your hand to, you and your households, in which Jehovah your God has blessed you.

^12:8You shall not do after all the things that we do here this day, every man whatsoever is right in his own eyes: ^12:9for you have not as yet come to the rest and to the inheritance, which Jehovah your God is giving you.

^12:10But when you go over Jordan, and dwell in the land which Jehovah your God is giving you to inherit, and when he gives you rest from all your enemies round about, so that you dwell in safety, ^12:11then there shall be a place which Jehovah your God shall choose to cause his Name to dwell there; there shall you bring all that I command you: your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes, the heave offering of your hand, and all your choice vows which you vow to Jehovah; ^12:12and you shall rejoice before Jehovah your God: you, your sons, your daughters, your men slaves, your women slaves, and the Levite that is within your gates (forasmuch as he has no part nor inheritance with you).

¶Opposite   When you eat flesh, be sure that you do not eat the blood (12:13 - 27)

^12:13Take heed to yourself that you do not offer your burnt offerings in every place that you see, ^12:14but in the place which Jehovah shall choose in one of your tribes, there shall you offer your burnt offerings, and there shall you do all that I command you. ^12:15Notwithstanding, you may kill and eat flesh in all your gates, whatsoever your soul desires, according to the blessing of Jehovah your God which he has given you: the unclean and the clean may eat of it, as of the gazelle, and as of the stag. ^12:16Only you shall not eat the blood; you shall pour it upon the earth as water.

^12:17You may not eat within your gates the tithe of your grain, or of your wine, or of your oil, or the firstborn of your herds or of your flock, nor any of your vows which you vow, nor your freewill offerings, or heave offering of your hand; ^12:18but you must eat them before Jehovah your God in the place which Jehovah your God shall choose: you, your son, your daughter, your man slave, your woman slave, and the Levite that is within your gates; and you shall rejoice before Jehovah your God in all that you put your hands to. ^12:19Take heed to yourself that you do not forsake the Levite as long as you live upon the earth.

^12:20When Jehovah your God shall enlarge your border, as he has promised you, and you shall say, ‘I will eat flesh’, because your soul longs to eat flesh, you may eat flesh, whatsoever your soul desires. ^12:21If the place which Jehovah your God has chosen to put his Name there is too far from you, then you shall kill of your herd and of your flock, which Jehovah has given you, as I have commanded you, and you shall eat in your gates whatsoever your soul desires. ^12:22Even as the gazelle and the stag is eaten, so you shall eat them: the unclean and the clean shall eat of them alike.

^12:23Only be sure that you do not eat the blood: for the blood is the life; and you may not eat the life with the flesh. ^12:24You shall not eat it; you shall pour it upon the earth as water. ^12:25You shall not eat it, that it may go well with you, and with your children after you, when you shall do that which is right in the sight of Jehovah.

^12:26Only your holy things which you have, and your vows, you shall take, and go to the place which Jehovah shall choose; ^12:27and you shall offer your burnt offerings, the flesh and the blood, upon the altar of Jehovah your God; and the blood of your sacrifices shall be poured out upon the altar of Jehovah your God, and you shall eat the flesh.

§Complement   Body: Anyone who tries to lure you away from the one true God Jehovah to worship another god shall be put to death (12:28 - 13:18)

^12:28Observe and hear all these words which I command you, that it may go well with you, and with your children after you forever, when you do that which is good and right in the sight of Jehovah your God. ^12:29When Jehovah your God shall cut off the nations from before you, where you are going to possess them, and you succeed them, and dwell in their land, ^12:30take heed to yourself that you be not snared by following them, after that they are destroyed from before you; and that you do not inquire after their gods, saying, ‘How did these nations serve their gods? Even so will I do likewise.’

^12:31You shall not do so to Jehovah your God: for every abomination to Jehovah, which he hates, have they done to their gods: for even their sons and their daughters have they burned in the fire to their gods.

^12:32Whatsoever thing I command you, observe to do it; you shall not add to it, nor diminish from it. ^13:1If there arises among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and gives you a sign or a wonder, ^13:2and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying, ‘Let us go after other gods’, which you have not known, and ‘Let us serve them’, ^13:3you shall not listen to the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for Jehovah your God is testing you, to know whether you love Jehovah your God with all your heart and with all your soul. ^13:4You shall walk after Jehovah your God, and fear him, and keep his Commandments, and obey his voice; and you shall serve him, and be faithful to him. ^13:5And that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has spoken to turn you away from Jehovah your God (who brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of slavery), to thrust you out of the way which Jehovah your God commanded you to walk in; so shall you put the evil away from your midst.

^13:6If your brother, the son of your mother, or your son, or your daughter, or the wife of your bosom, or your friend, which is as your own soul, entices you secretly, saying, ‘Let us go and serve other gods’, which you have not known (you or your fathers): ^13:7namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, near to you, or far off from you, from one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth, ^13:8you shall not agree to him, nor listen to him; neither shall your eye pity him; neither shall you spare; neither shall you conceal him, ^13:9but you shall surely kill him; your hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people. ^13:10And you shall stone him with stones, that he dies, because he has attempted to thrust you away from Jehovah your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery. ^13:11And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall no longer do any such wickedness as this is among you.

^13:12If you shall hear it said in one of your cities, which Jehovah your God has given you to dwell there, saying, ^13:13‘Certain men, the children of Belial, have gone out from among you, and have withdrawn the inhabitants of their city, saying, ‘Let us go and serve other gods’’, which you have not known, ^13:14then you shall inquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and, behold, if it is true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is done among you, ^13:15then you shall surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword; destroying it utterly, and all that is in it, and its cattle, with the edge of the sword. ^13:16And you shall gather all its plunder into the midst of its street; and shall burn with fire the city, and all its plunder completely, for Jehovah your God; and it shall be a heap forever: it shall not be built again. ^13:17And none of the cursed thing shall remain in your hand, so that Jehovah may turn from the fierceness of his anger, and show you mercy, and have compassion upon you, and multiply you, as he has sworn to your fathers, ^13:18when you shall give heed to the voice of Jehovah your God, to observe all his Commandments which I command you this day, to do that which is right in the eyes of Jehovah your God.

§Complement   Conclusion: Serve Jehovah with good works and worship according to the Law (14:1 - 16:17)

¶Complement   Be generous and kind to the poor among you (14:1 - 15:18)

^14:1You are the children of Jehovah your God. You shall not cut yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead: ^14:2for you are a holy people to Jehovah your God, and Jehovah has chosen you to be a special people to himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth.

^14:3You shall not eat any abominable thing. ^14:4These are the beasts that you shall eat: the ox, the sheep, the goat, ^14:5the stag, the gazelle, the fallow deer, the wild goat, the pygarg, the wild ox, and the chamois. ^14:6And every beast that parts the hoof, and divides the cleft into two claws, and chews the cud among the beasts, that shall you eat. ^14:7Nevertheless you shall not eat these of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the cloven hoof: the camel, the hare, and the coney: for they chew the cud, but do not divide the hoof; therefore they are unclean to you. ^14:8And the pig, because it divides the hoof, yet does not chew the cud, it is unclean to you; you shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcass. ^14:9These you shall eat of all that are in the waters: all that have fins and scales you shall eat; ^14:10and whatsoever has no fins and scales you may not eat; it is unclean to you. ^14:11Of all clean birds you shall eat. ^14:12But these are those which you shall not eat: the eagle, the ossifrage, the osprey, ^14:13the glede, the kite, the vulture after his kind, ^14:14every raven after his kind, ^14:15the owl, the night hawk, the cuckow, the hawk after his kind, ^14:16the little owl, the great owl, the swan, ^14:17the pelican, the gier eagle, the cormorant, ^14:18the stork, the heron after her kind, the lapwing, and the bat. ^14:19And every creeping thing that flies is unclean to you; they shall not be eaten. ^14:20But you may eat of all clean birds. ^14:21You shall not eat of anything that dies of itself; you shall give it to the stranger that is in your gates, that he may eat it; or you may sell it to a foreigner: for you are a holy people to Jehovah your God. You shall not boil a kid goat in his mother's milk.

^14:22You shall truly tithe all the increase of your seed that the field brings forth year by year. ^14:23And you shall eat before Jehovah your God (in the place that he shall choose to place his Name there) the tithe of your grain, of your wine, of your oil, and the firstborn of your herds and of your flocks, that you may learn to fear Jehovah your God always. ^14:24And if the way is too long for you, so that you are not able to carry it; or if the place is too far from you, which Jehovah your God shall choose to set his Name there, when Jehovah your God has blessed you, ^14:25then you shall exchange it for money, and bind up the money in your hand, and shall go to the place which Jehovah your God shall choose; ^14:26and you shall bestow that money for whatsoever your soul desires, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever your soul desires; and you shall eat there before Jehovah your God, and you shall rejoice: you, your household, ^14:27and the Levite that is within your gates. You shall not forsake him: for he has no part nor inheritance with you. ^14:28At the end of three years you shall bring forth all the tithe of your increase the same year, and shall lay it up within your gates; ^14:29and the Levite (because he has no part nor inheritance with you), the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow (who are within your gates) shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied, that Jehovah your God may bless you in all the work of your hand which you do.

^15:1At the end of every seven years you shall make a release. ^15:2And this is the manner of the release: every creditor that lends anything to his neighbor shall release it; he shall not demand repayment of his neighbor, or of his brother, because it is called Jehovah's release. ^15:3Of a foreigner you may demand repayment, but that which is yours with your brother your hand shall release; ^15:4except when there shall be no poor among you: for Jehovah shall greatly bless you in the land which Jehovah your God is giving you for an inheritance to possess it; ^15:5but only if you carefully pay attention to the voice of Jehovah your God, to observe to do all these Commandments which I command you this day: ^15:6for Jehovah your God blesses you, as he promised you; and you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow; and you shall reign over many nations, but they shall not reign over you. ^15:7If there is among you a poor man of one of your brethren within any of your gates in your land which Jehovah your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart, nor shut your hand from your poor brother; ^15:8but you shall open your hand wide to him, and shall surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he wants. ^15:9Beware that there is not a thought in your wicked heart, saying, ‘The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand’; and your eye is evil against your poor brother, and you give him nothing; and he cries to Jehovah against you, and it is sin to you. ^15:10You shall surely give him; and your heart shall not be grieved when you give to him, because for this thing Jehovah your God shall bless you in all your works, and in all that you put your hand to: ^15:11for the poor shall never cease out of the land; therefore I command you, saying, ‘You shall open your hand wide to your brother, to your poor, and to your needy, in your land.’

^15:12And if your brother, a Hebrew man or a Hebrew woman, is sold to you, and serves you six years, then in the seventh year you shall let him go free from you. ^15:13And when you send him out free from you, you shall not let him go away empty-handed; ^15:14you shall furnish him generously out of your flock, and out of your threshingfloor, and out of your winepress; of that with which Jehovah your God has blessed you, you shall give to him. ^15:15And you shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt; and Jehovah your God redeemed you; therefore I command you this thing today. ^15:16And it shall be, if he says to you, ‘I will not go away from you’ (because he loves you and your house, or because he is well with you), ^15:17then you shall take an awl, and thrust it through his ear to the door, and he shall be your slave forever. And you shall also do likewise to your woman slave. ^15:18It shall not seem hard to you, when you send him away free from you: for he has been worth a double hired servant to you, in serving you six years; and Jehovah your God shall bless you in all that you do.

¶Complement   Observe the three major Feasts every year in the place which Jehovah shall choose (15:19 - 16:17)

^15:19All the firstborn males that come of your herd and of your flock you shall sanctify unto Jehovah your God. You shall do no work with the firstborn of your young bull, nor shear the firstborn of your sheep. ^15:20You shall eat it before Jehovah your God year by year in the place that Jehovah shall choose: you and your household. ^15:21And if there is any blemish in it, such as lameness, or blindness, or any ill blemish, you shall not sacrifice it to Jehovah your God. ^15:22You shall eat it within your gates; the unclean and the clean person shall eat it alike, as the gazelle, and as the stag. ^15:23Only you shall not eat its blood; you shall pour it on the ground like water.

^16:1Observe the month of Abib, and keep the Passover to Jehovah your God: for in the month of Abib Jehovah your God brought you forth out of Egypt by night. ^16:2Therefore you shall sacrifice the Passover to Jehovah your God, of the flock and the herd, in the place that Jehovah shall choose to place his Name there. ^16:3You shall not eat leavened bread with it; seven days shall you eat unleavened bread therewith, even the bread of affliction: for you came forth out of the land of Egypt in haste, that you may remember the day when you came forth out of the land of Egypt all the days of your life. ^16:4And no leavened bread shall be seen with you in all your territory seven days; neither shall any of the flesh, which you sacrificed the first day at evening, remain all night until the morning. ^16:5You may not sacrifice the Passover within any of your gates, which Jehovah your God is giving you; ^16:6but at the place which Jehovah your God shall choose to place his Name in, there you shall sacrifice the Passover at evening, at the going down of the sun, at the season that you came forth out of Egypt. ^16:7And you shall roast and eat it in the place which Jehovah your God shall choose; and you shall turn in the morning, and go to your tents. ^16:8Six days you shall eat unleavened bread; and on the seventh day shall be a solemn assembly to Jehovah your God; you shall do no work in it.

^16:9Seven weeks shall you number to you. Begin to number the seven weeks from when you begin to put the sickle to the grain. ^16:10And you shall keep the Feast of Weeks to Jehovah your God with a tribute of a freewill offering of your hand, which you shall give to Jehovah your God, according as Jehovah your God has blessed you; ^16:11and you shall rejoice before Jehovah your God: you, your son, your daughter, your man slave, your woman slave, the Levite that is within your gates, the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, that are among you, in the place which Jehovah your God has chosen to place his Name there. ^16:12And you shall remember that you were a slave in Egypt; and you shall observe and do these Statutes.

^16:13You shall observe the Feast of Tabernacles seven days, after that you have gathered in your grain and your wine; ^16:14and you shall rejoice in your feast: you, your son, your daughter, your man slave, your woman slave, the Levite, the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, that are within your gates. ^16:15Seven days shall you keep a solemn feast to Jehovah your God, in the place that Jehovah shall choose. Because Jehovah your God shall bless you in all your increase, and in all the works of your hands; therefore you shall surely rejoice.

^16:16Three times in a year shall all your males appear before Jehovah your God in the place which he shall choose: in the Feast of Unleavened Bread, and in the Feast of Weeks, and in the Feast of Tabernacles. And they shall not appear before Jehovah empty-handed; ^16:17every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of Jehovah your God which he has given you.

^12:4No haréis así a Jehová vuestro Dios. ^12:5Pero el lugar que Jehová vuestro Dios escogiere de todas vuestras tribus, para poner allí su Nombre para su habitación, ése buscaréis, y allá iréis: ^12:6y allí llevaréis vuestros holocaustos, y vuestros sacrificios, y vuestros diezmos, y la ofrenda elevada de vuestras manos, y vuestros votos, y vuestras ofrendas voluntarias, y los primogénitos de vuestras vacas y de vuestras ovejas; ^12:7y comeréis allí delante de Jehová vuestro Dios, y os alegraréis, ustedes y vuestras familias, en toda obra de vuestras manos en que Jehová tu Dios te hubiere bendecido.

^12:8No haréis como todo lo que hacemos nosotros aquí ahora, cada uno hace lo que parece bien a sus propios ojos, ^12:9porque aún hasta ahora no habéis entrado al reposo y a la heredad que os da Jehová vuestro Dios.

¶Lo opuesto   Cuando comáis la carne, asegúrate de que no coméis sangre (12:13 - 27)

^12:13Guárdate, que no ofrezcas tus holocaustos en cualquier lugar que vieres; ^12:14sino en el lugar que Jehová escogiere, en una de tus tribus, allí ofrecerás tus holocaustos, y allí harás todo lo que yo te mando. ^12:15Con todo, podrás matar y comer carne en todas tus poblaciones conforme al deseo de tu alma, según la bendición de Jehová tu Dios que él te habrá dado; el inmundo y el limpio la comerá, como la de corzo o de ciervo. ^12:16Salvo que sangre no comeréis; sobre la tierra la derramaréis como agua.

^12:17Ni podrás comer en tus poblaciones el diezmo de tu grano, o de tu vino, o de tu aceite, ni de los primogénitos de tus vacas, ni de tus ovejas, ni tus votos que prometieres, ni tus ofrendas voluntarias, ni las ofrendas elevadas de tus manos. ^12:18Pero delante de Jehová tu Dios las comerás, en el lugar que Jehová tu Dios hubiere escogido, tú, y tu hijo, y tu hija, y tu siervo, y tu sierva, y el Levita que está en tus poblaciones; y te alegrarás delante de Jehová tu Dios en toda obra de tus manos. ^12:19Ten cuidado de no desamparar al Levita en todos tus días sobre tu tierra.

^12:20Cuando Jehová tu Dios ensanchare tu término, como él te ha dicho, y tú dijeres: Comeré carne: porque deseó tu alma comerla, conforme a todo el deseo de tu alma comerás carne. ^12:21Cuando estuviere lejos de ti el lugar que Jehová tu Dios habrá escogido, para poner allí su Nombre, matarás de tus vacas y de tus ovejas, que Jehová te hubiere dado, como te he mandado yo, y comerás en tus puertas según todo lo que deseare tu alma. ^12:22Lo mismo que se come el corzo y el ciervo, así las comerás; el inmundo y el limpio comerán también de ellas.

^12:23Sólo asegúrate de no comer sangre: porque la sangre es la vida; y no has de comer la vida juntamente con su carne. ^12:24No la comerás; en tierra la derramarás como agua. ^12:25No comerás de ella; para que te vaya bien a ti, y a tus hijos después de ti, cuando hicieres lo recto en ojos de Jehová.

^12:26Pero las cosas que tuvieres consagradas, y tus votos, las tomarás, y vendrás al lugar que Jehová hubiere escogido; ^12:27y ofrecerás tus holocaustos, la carne y la sangre, sobre el altar de Jehová tu Dios: y la sangre de tus sacrificios será derramada sobre el altar de Jehová tu Dios, y comerás la carne.

§El complemento   Cuerpo: Cualquiera quien intenta seduciros lejos del único Dios verdadero Jehová para adorar a cualquier otro dios será puesto a muerte (12:28 - 13:18)

^12:28Guarda y escucha todas estas palabras que yo te mando, para que te vaya bien a ti y a tus hijos después de ti para siempre, cuando hicieres lo bueno y lo recto ante los ojos de Jehová tu Dios. ^12:29Cuando Jehová tu Dios hubiere destruido delante de ti las naciones a donde tú vas para poseerlas, y las heredares, y habitares en su tierra, ^12:30guárdate que no tropieces en pos de ellas, después que fueren destruidas delante de ti; no preguntes acerca de sus dioses, diciendo, ‘¿Cómo servían estas naciones a sus dioses? Así haré yo también’.

^12:31No harás así a Jehová tu Dios: porque todo lo que Jehová aborrece, hicieron ellos a sus dioses; pues aun a sus hijos e hijas quemaban en el fuego a sus dioses.

^12:32Cuidaréis de hacer todo lo que yo os mando; no añadirás a ello, ni quitarás de ello. ^13:1Cuando se levantare en medio de ti profeta, o soñador de sueños, y te diere señal o prodigio, ^13:2y se cumpliere la señal o prodigio que él te dijo, diciendo, ‘Vamos en pos de dioses ajenos’, que no conociste, y ‘Sirvámosles’. ^13:3No darás oído a las palabras de tal profeta, ni al tal soñador de sueños: porque Jehová vuestro Dios os prueba, para saber si amáis a Jehová vuestro Dios con todo vuestro corazón, y con toda vuestra alma. ^13:4En pos de Jehová vuestro Dios andaréis, y a él temeréis, y guardaréis sus Mandamientos, y escucharéis su voz, y a él serviréis, y a él seguiréis. ^13:5Y el tal profeta o soñador de sueños, ha de ser muerto; por cuanto habló para alejaros de Jehová vuestro Dios (que te sacó de tierra de Egipto, y te rescató de casa de siervos), y para echarte del camino por el que Jehová tu Dios te mandó que anduvieses. Así quitarás el mal de en medio de ti.

^13:6Cuando te incitare tu hermano, hijo de tu madre, o tu hijo, o tu hija, o la esposa de tu seno, o tu amigo que sea como tu alma, diciendo en secreto: Vamos y sirvamos a dioses ajenos, que ni tú ni tus padres conocisteis, ^13:7de los dioses de los pueblos que están en vuestros alrededores, cerca de ti o lejos de ti, desde un extremo de la tierra hasta el otro extremo de ella, ^13:8no consentirás con él, ni le darás oído; ni tu ojo le perdonará, ni tendrás compasión, ni lo encubrirás, ^13:9antes has de matarlo; tu mano será primero sobre él para matarle, y después la mano de todo el pueblo. ^13:10Y lo apedrearás hasta que muera; por cuanto procuró apartarte de Jehová tu Dios, que te sacó de tierra de Egipto, de casa de siervos; ^13:11para que todo Israel oiga, y tema, y no tornen a hacer cosa semejante a esta mala cosa en medio de ti.

^13:12Cuando oyeres de alguna de tus ciudades que Jehová tu Dios te da para que mores en ellas, que se dice: ^13:13‘Hombres, hijos de impiedad, han salido de en medio de ti, que han instigado a los moradores de su ciudad, diciendo, ‘Vamos y sirvamos a dioses ajenos’’, que ustedes no conocisteis; ^13:14tú inquirirás, y buscarás, y preguntarás con diligencia; y si pareciere verdad, cosa cierta, que tal abominación se hizo en medio de ti, ^13:15irremisiblemente herirás a filo de espada a los moradores de aquella ciudad, destruyéndola con todo lo que en ella hubiere, y también sus bestias a filo de espada. ^13:16Y juntarás todo el despojo de ella en medio de su plaza, y consumirás con fuego la ciudad y todo su despojo, todo ello, a Jehová tu Dios; y será un montón para siempre; nunca más se edificará. ^13:17Y no se pegará algo a tu mano del anatema; para que Jehová se aparte del furor de su ira y te muestre misericordia, y tenga compasión de ti, y te multiplique, como lo juró a tus padres, ^13:18cuando obedecieres a la voz de Jehová tu Dios, guardando todos sus Mandamientos que yo te prescribo hoy, para hacer lo recto en ojos de Jehová tu Dios.

§El complemento   Conclusión: Servid a Jehová con buenas obras y adorad según la ley (14:1 - 16:17)

¶El complemento   Sed generoso y amable con los pobres entre ustedes (14:1 - 15:18)

^14:1Hijos sois de Jehová vuestro Dios. No os sajaréis, ni pondréis calva sobre vuestros ojos por muerto: ^14:2porque eres pueblo santo a Jehová tu Dios, y Jehová te ha escogido para que le seas un pueblo singular de entre todos los pueblos que están sobre la faz de la tierra.

^14:3Nada abominable comerás. ^14:4Éstos son los animales que comeréis: el buey, la oveja, y la cabra, ^14:5el ciervo, la gacela, el corzo, la cabra montés, el antílope, el carnero montés y el gamo. ^14:6Y todo animal de pezuñas, que tiene hendidura de dos uñas, y que rumiare entre los animales, ese comeréis. ^14:7Pero éstos no comeréis, de los que rumian, o tienen uña hendida; camello, y liebre, y conejo: porque rumian, pero no tienen uña hendida, os serán inmundos; ^14:8ni puerco: porque tiene uña hendida, pero no rumia, os será inmundo. De la carne de éstos no comeréis, ni tocaréis sus cuerpos muertos. ^14:9Esto comeréis de todo lo que está en el agua; todo lo que tiene aleta y escama comeréis; ^14:10pero todo lo que no tuviere aleta y escama, no comeréis; inmundo os será. ^14:11Toda ave limpia comeréis. ^14:12Y éstas son de las que no comeréis; el águila, el quebrantahuesos, el esmerejón, ^14:13el azor, el halcón y el milano según su especie, ^14:14y todo cuervo según su especie, ^14:15el búho, el halcón nocturno, la gaviota, el gavilán según su especie, ^14:16la lechuza, el búho real, el cisne, ^14:17el pelícano, el buitre, el calamón, ^14:18la cigüeña, la garza según su especie, la abubilla y el murciélago. ^14:19Y todo insecto alado os será inmundo; no se comerá. ^14:20Toda ave limpia comeréis. ^14:21Ninguna cosa mortecina comeréis: al extranjero que está en tus poblaciones la darás, y él la comerá: o véndela al extranjero: porque tú eres pueblo santo a Jehová tu Dios. No cocerás el cabrito en la leche de su madre.

^14:22Sin falta diezmarás todo el producto de tu sementera, que rindiere tu campo cada año. ^14:23Y comerás delante de Jehová tu Dios en el lugar que él escogiere para hacer habitar allí su Nombre, el diezmo de tu grano, de tu vino, y de tu aceite, y los primerizos de tus manadas, y de tus ganados, para que aprendas a temer a Jehová tu Dios todos los días. ^14:24Y si el camino fuere tan largo que tú no puedas llevarlo por él, por estar lejos de ti el lugar que Jehová tu Dios hubiere escogido para poner en él su Nombre, cuando Jehová tu Dios te bendijere, ^14:25entonces lo venderás, y atarás el dinero en tu mano, y vendrás al lugar que Jehová tu Dios escogiere; ^14:26y darás el dinero por todo lo que deseare tu alma, por vacas, o por ovejas, o por vino, o por sidra, o por cualquier cosa que tu alma te demandare; y comerás allí delante de Jehová tu Dios, y te alegrarás tú y tu familia. ^14:27Y no desampararás al Levita que habitare en tus poblaciones: porque no tiene parte ni heredad contigo. ^14:28Al cabo de cada tres años sacarás todo el diezmo de tus productos de aquel año, y lo guardarás en tus ciudades. ^14:29Y vendrá el Levita, que no tiene parte ni heredad contigo, y el extranjero, el huérfano y la viuda que hubiere en tus poblaciones, y comerán y serán saciados; para que Jehová tu Dios te bendiga en toda obra de tus manos que hicieres.

^15:1Al final de cada siete años harás remisión. ^15:2Y ésta es la manera de la remisión: perdonará a su deudor todo aquel que hizo empréstito de su mano, con que obligó a su prójimo; no lo demandará más a su prójimo, o a su hermano: porque la remisión de Jehová es pregonada. ^15:3Del extranjero demandarás el reintegro: pero lo que tu hermano tuviere tuyo, lo perdonará tu mano; ^15:4para que así no haya en ti mendigo: porque Jehová te bendecirá con abundancia en la tierra que Jehová tu Dios te da por heredad para que la poseas, ^15:5si sólo escuchares fielmente la voz de Jehová tu Dios, para guardar y cumplir todos estos Mandamientos que yo te intimo hoy. ^15:6Ya que Jehová tu Dios te habrá bendecido, como te ha dicho, prestarás entonces a muchas naciones, pero tú no tomarás prestado; y señorearás sobre muchas naciones, pero ellas no señorearán sobre ti. ^15:7Cuando hubiere en ti menesteroso de alguno de tus hermanos en alguna de tus ciudades, en tu tierra que Jehová tu Dios te da, no endurecerás tu corazón, ni cerrarás tu mano a tu hermano pobre; ^15:8pero abrirás a él tu mano liberalmente, y en efecto le prestarás lo que basta, lo que necesite. ^15:9Guárdate que no haya en tu corazón perverso pensamiento, diciendo, ‘Cerca está el año séptimo, el de la remisión’; y tu ojo sea maligno sobre tu hermano menesteroso para no darle: que él podrá clamar contra ti a Jehová, y se te imputará a pecado. ^15:10Sin falta le darás, y no sea tu corazón maligno cuando le dieres: que por ello te bendecirá Jehová tu Dios en todos tus hechos, y en todo lo que pusieres mano: ^15:11porque no faltarán menesterosos de en medio de la tierra; por eso yo te mando, diciendo, ‘Abrirás tu mano a tu hermano, a tu pobre, y a tu menesteroso en tu tierra’.

^15:12Cuando se vendiere a ti tu hermano hebreo o hebrea, y te hubiere servido seis años, al séptimo año le despedirás libre de ti. ^15:13Y cuando lo despidieres libre de ti, no lo enviarás vacío: ^15:14le abastecerás liberalmente de tus ovejas, de tu era, y de tu lagar; le darás de aquello en que Jehová te hubiere bendecido. ^15:15Y te acordarás que fuiste siervo en la tierra de Egipto, y que Jehová tu Dios te rescató: por tanto yo te mando esto hoy. ^15:16Y será que, si él te dijere, ‘No saldré de contigo’ (porque te ama a ti y a tu casa, y porque le va bien contigo), ^15:17entonces tomarás una lezna, y horadarás su oreja junto a la puerta, y será tu siervo para siempre. Así también harás a tu criada. ^15:18No te parezca duro cuando de ti le enviares libre; que digno de doble salario de jornalero te sirvió seis años; y Jehová tu Dios te bendecirá en todo cuanto hicieres.

¶El complemento   Mantened las tres fiestas principales cada año en el lugar que Jehová elegirá (15:19 - 16:17)

^15:19Santificarás a Jehová tu Dios todo primogénito macho de tus vacas y de tus ovejas: no te servirás del primogénito de tus vacas, ni trasquilarás el primogénito de tus ovejas. ^15:20Delante de Jehová tu Dios los comerás cada un año, tú y tu familia, en el lugar que Jehová escogiere. ^15:21Y si hubiere en él tacha, ciego o cojo, o cualquiera mala falta, no lo sacrificarás a Jehová tu Dios. ^15:22En tus poblaciones lo comerás; el inmundo lo mismo que el limpio comerán de él, como de un corzo o de un ciervo. ^15:23Solamente que no comas su sangre; sobre la tierra la derramarás como agua.

^16:1Guardarás el mes de Abib, y harás pascua a Jehová tu Dios: porque en el mes de Abib te sacó Jehová tu Dios de Egipto de noche. ^16:2Y sacrificarás la pascua a Jehová tu Dios, de las ovejas y de las vacas, en el lugar que Jehová escogiere para hacer habitar allí su Nombre. ^16:3No comerás con ella leudo; siete días comerás con ella pan por leudar, pan de aflicción: porque aprisa saliste de tierra de Egipto: para que te acuerdes del día en que saliste de la tierra de Egipto todos los días de tu vida. ^16:4Y no se dejará ver levadura contigo en todo tu término por siete días; y de la carne que matares a la tarde del primer día, no quedará hasta la mañana. ^16:5No podrás sacrificar la pascua en ninguna de tus ciudades, que Jehová tu Dios te da; ^16:6sino en el lugar que Jehová tu Dios escogiere para hacer habitar allí su Nombre, sacrificarás la pascua por la tarde a puesta del sol, al tiempo que saliste de Egipto. ^16:7Y la asarás y comerás en el lugar que Jehová tu Dios hubiere escogido; y por la mañana te volverás y restituirás a tu morada. ^16:8Seis días comerás pan sin levadura, y el séptimo día será fiesta solemne a Jehová tu Dios; no harás obra en él.

^16:9Siete semanas te contarás; desde que comiences a meter la hoz en la mies comenzarás a contar las siete semanas. ^16:10Y harás la solemnidad de las semanas a Jehová tu Dios; de la suficiencia voluntaria de tu mano será lo que dieres, según Jehová tu Dios te hubiere bendecido. ^16:11Y te alegrarás delante de Jehová tu Dios, tú, y tu hijo, y tu hija, y tu siervo, y tu sierva, y el Levita que estuviere en tus ciudades, y el extranjero, y el huérfano, y la viuda, que estuvieren en medio de ti, en el lugar que Jehová tu Dios hubiere escogido para hacer habitar allí su Nombre. ^16:12Y acuérdate que fuiste siervo en Egipto; por tanto guardarás y cumplirás estos Estatutos.

^16:13La Solemnidad de las Cabañas harás por siete días, cuando hubieres hecho la cosecha de tu era y de tu lagar. ^16:14Y te alegrarás en tus fiestas solemnes, tú, y tu hijo, y tu hija, y tu siervo, y tu sierva, y el Levita, y el extranjero, y el huérfano, y la viuda, que están en tus poblaciones. ^16:15Siete días celebrarás fiestas solemnes a Jehová tu Dios en el lugar que Jehová escogiere: porque te habrá bendecido Jehová tu Dios en todos tus frutos, y en toda obra de tus manos, y estarás ciertamente alegre.

^16:16Tres veces cada año se presentará todo varón tuyo delante de Jehová tu Dios en el lugar que él escogiere; en la Fiesta de los Panes sin Levadura, y en la Fiesta de las Semanas, y en la Fiesta de los Tabernáculos. Y no te presentarás con las manos vacías delante de Jehová; ^16:17cada uno dará lo que pueda, conforme a la bendición de Jehová tu Dios, que él te hubiere dado.
