^1:20And God said, “Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that has life; and birds that may fly above the earth in the open expanse of heaven.” ^1:21And God created great whales and every living creature that moves, which the waters brought forth abundantly after their kind; and every winged bird after his kind; and God saw that it was good. ^1:22And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the sea; and let birds multiply in the earth.” ^1:23And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

^1:24And God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind: animal, creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind”; and it was so. ^1:25And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and animal after their kind, and everything that creeps upon the earth after his kind; and God saw that it was good.

^1:26And God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the animals, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.” ^1:27So God created man in his own image; he created him in the image of God; he created them male and female. ^1:28And God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the earth; and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.” ^1:29And God said, “Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth; and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; it shall be for food to you. ^1:30And to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps upon the earth, in which there is life, I have given them every green herb for food.” And it was so. ^1:31And God saw everything that he had made; and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

^2:1In this manner the heavens and the earth were finished, and all their host.

^2:2And on the seventh day, God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

^2:3And God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

§Complement   Body: Jehovah God created the first man to rule the Earth, but he lost that privilege because of sin (2:4 - 3:19)

^2:4These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that Jehovah God made the earth and the heavens, ^2:5and every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew:

for Jehovah God had not caused it to rain upon the earth.

And there was not a man to cultivate the ground;

^2:6but a mist went up from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.

^2:7And Jehovah God formed man of the dust of the ground; and he breathed into his nostrils the breath of lives, and man became a living soul.

¶Complement   Jehovah God made the Garden of Eden and placed the man in it to take care of it (2:8 - 17)

^2:8And Jehovah God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and he put there the man whom he had formed.

^2:9And out of the ground made Jehovah God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food: the Tree of Life also in the midst of the garden, and the Tree of knowledge of good and evil.

^2:10And a river went out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it was parted, and became four heads. ^2:11The name of the first is Pison: that is it which encircles the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold ^2:12(and the gold of that land is good; also there is bdellium and the onyx stone). ^2:13And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that circles the whole land of Ethiopia. ^2:14And the name of the third river is Tigris: that is it which goes toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.

^2:15And Jehovah God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to tend it, and to keep it.

^2:16And Jehovah God commanded the man, saying, “You may freely eat of every tree of the garden; ^2:17but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat of it: for in the day that you eat of it you shall begin to die.”

^2:18And Jehovah God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.” ^2:19And Jehovah God formed every beast of the field, and every bird of the air out of the ground; and he brought them to Adam to see what he would call them; and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was its name. ^2:20And Adam gave names to all animals, and to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam no helper suitable for him was found.

^2:21And Jehovah God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept; and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place; ^2:22and of the rib, which Jehovah God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her to the man.

^2:23And Adam said, “This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. ^2:24Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall be joined to his wife; and they shall be one flesh.”

^2:25And they were both naked, the man and his wife;

and they were unashamed.

^3:1Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which Jehovah God had made; and he said to the woman, “Is it true that God has said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?’”

^3:2And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden; ^3:3but of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat of it; neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’”

^3:4And the serpent said to the woman, “You shall not begin to die: ^3:5for God knows that in the day that you eat of it, then your eyes shall be opened; and you shall be like gods, knowing good and evil.”

^3:6And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit, and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.

^3:7And the eyes of them both were opened; and they realized that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves coverings.

^3:8And they heard the voice of Jehovah God walking in the garden in the cool of the day; and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Jehovah God among the trees of the garden. ^3:9And Jehovah God called to Adam, and said to him, “Where are you?” ^3:10And he said, “I heard your voice in the garden; and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.”

^3:11And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you that you should not eat?” ^3:12And the man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.” ^3:13And Jehovah God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” And the woman said, “The serpent deceived me; and I ate.”

^3:14And Jehovah God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, you are cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field. Upon your belly shall you go; and all the days of your life you shall eat dust. ^3:15And I will put hatred between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed: he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.

^3:16And he said to the woman, “I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; in sorrow shall you bring forth children; and your desire shall be to your husband; and he shall rule over you.”

^3:17And he said to Adam, “Because you have obeyed the voice of your wife, and have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’, cursed is the ground for your sake; in sorrow shall you eat of it all the days of your life; ^3:18thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to you; and you shall eat the herb of the field. ^3:19In the sweat of your face shall you eat bread, until you return to the ground; because out of it were you taken: for of dust you are, and unto dust shall you return.”

^4:1And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived; and she bore Cain; and she said, “I have obtained a man, Jehovah.” ^4:2And she again bore his twin brother Abel.

Now Abel was a shepherd of sheep; but Cain was a farmer; ^4:3and in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to Jehovah. ^4:4And Abel, he also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of its fat. And Jehovah accepted Abel and his offering; ^4:5but he rejected Cain and his grain offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell. ^4:6And Jehovah said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, shall you not be accepted? ^4:7And if you do not well, sin lies at the door; and his desire shall be to you, but you should rule over him.”

^4:8And Cain talked with his brother Abel; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and killed him. ^4:9And Jehovah said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” And he said, “I do not know; am I my brother’s guardian?” ^4:10And he said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries to me from the ground. ^4:11And now you are cursed from the earth, which has opened her mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. ^4:12When you cultivate the ground, it shall not henceforth yield her strength to you. You shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth.” ^4:13And Cain said to Jehovah, “My punishment is greater than I can bear. ^4:14Behold, you have driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and I shall be hidden from your face. And I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that finds me shall slay me.” ^4:15And Jehovah said to him, “Therefore whosoever slays Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.” And Jehovah set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.

^4:16And Cain went out from the presence of Jehovah, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden. ^4:17And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bore Enoch. And the sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah. ^4:23And Lamech said to his wives, “Adah and Zillah, hear my voice! You wives of Lamech, listen to my words! For I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt. ^4:24If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech shall be avenged seventy-sevenfold.”

And she called his name Seth, saying, “For God has appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.”

^2:15Tomó, pues, Jehová Dios al hombre, y le puso en el huerto de Edén, para que lo labrara y lo guardase.

^2:16Y Jehová Dios mandó al hombre, diciendo, “De todo árbol del huerto libremente podrás comer; ^2:17pero del árbol del conocimiento del bien y el mal no comerás: porque el día que de él comieres, ciertamente morirás”.

¶Lo opuesto   La serpiente engañó a la mujer a desobedecer la orden de Jehová Dios (3:1 - 7)

^3:1Ahora la serpiente era astuta, más que todos los animales del campo que Jehová Dios había hecho; y dijo a la mujer, “¿Es verdad que Dios ha dicho, ‘No comáis de todo árbol del huerto?’”

^3:2Y la mujer dijo a la serpiente, “Del fruto de los árboles del huerto podemos comer; ^3:3pero del fruto del árbol que está en medio del huerto dijo Dios, ‘No comeréis de él, ni le tocaréis, para que no muráis’.”

^3:4Entonces la serpiente dijo a la mujer, “No moriréis: ^3:5porque sabe Dios que en el día que comas de ello, vuestros ojos serán abiertos, y seréis como dioses, sabiendo el bien y el mal”.

^3:6Y vio la mujer que el árbol era bueno para comer, y que era agradable a los ojos, y árbol codiciable para alcanzar la sabiduría; y tomó de su fruto, y comió; y dio también a su marido y él comió con ella.

^3:7Y fueron abiertos los ojos de ambos, y conocieron que estaban desnudos; entonces cosieron hojas de higuera, y se hicieron delantales.

¶Lo opuesto   Jehová Dios pronunció juicio sobre la serpiente, la mujer y el hombre (3:8 - 19)

^3:8Y oyeron la voz de Jehová Dios que se paseaba en el huerto al aire del día; y Adán y su esposa se escondieron de la presencia de Jehová Dios entre los árboles del huerto. ^3:9Y llamó Jehová Dios a Adán, y le dijo, “¿Dónde estás tú?”. ^3:10Y él respondió, “Oí tu voz en el huerto, y tuve miedo: porque estaba desnudo; y me escondí”.

^3:11Y Dios le dijo, “¿Quién te enseñó que estabas desnudo? ¿Has comido del árbol de que yo te mandé no comieses?”. ^3:12Y el hombre respondió, “La mujer que me, diste por compañera me dio del árbol, y yo comí”. ^3:13Entonces Jehová Dios dijo a la mujer, “¿Qué es lo que has hecho?”. Y dijo la mujer, “La serpiente me engañó, y comí”.

^3:14Y Jehová Dios dijo a la serpiente, “Por cuanto esto hiciste, maldita serás entre todas las bestias y entre todos los animales del campo. Sobre tu pecho andarás, y polvo comerás todos los días de tu vida. ^3:15Y pondré enemistad entre ti y la mujer, y entre tu simiente y su Simiente: Él magullará a tu cabeza, y tú magullarás a su talón”.

^3:16A la mujer dijo, “Multiplicaré en gran manera tus dolores y tus preñeces; con dolor darás a luz los hijos. Y tu deseo será para tu marido, y él señoreará sobre ti”.

^3:17Y al hombre dijo, “Por cuanto obedeciste a la voz de tu esposa, y comiste del árbol de que te mandé, diciendo, ‘No comerás de él’; maldita será la tierra por tu causa; con dolor comerás de ella todos los días de tu vida; ^3:18espinos y cardos te producirá, y comerás plantas del campo. ^3:19Con el sudor de tu frente comerás el pan hasta que vuelvas a la tierra: porque de ella fuiste tomado. Pues polvo eres, y al polvo volverás”.

§El complemento   Conclusión: Caín asesinó a su hermano Abel; los hijos de Caín y los hijos de Set siguieron a sus padres (3:20 - 4:26)

¶El complemento   Caín mató a su hermano menor Abel y fue desterrado de la presencia de Jehová Dios (3:20 - 4:15)

^3:20Y Adán llamó el nombre de su esposa “Eva”; por cuanto ella era madre de todos los vivientes; ^3:21también para Adán y su esposa, Jehová Dios hizo túnicas de pieles de oveja y los vistió.

^3:22y dijo Jehová Dios, “He aquí el hombre es como uno de Nosotros, sabiendo el bien y el mal; ahora, pues, que no alargue su mano, y tome también del árbol de la vida, y coma, y viva para siempre...”. ^3:23Y lo sacó Jehová del huerto de Edén, para que labrase la tierra de que fue tomado. ^3:24Echó, pues, fuera al hombre, y puso al oriente del huerto de Edén Querubines, y una espada encendida que se revolvía por todos lados para guardar el camino del árbol de la Vida.

^4:1Y conoció Adán a su esposa Eva; la cual concibió, y dio a luz a Caín, y dijo, “He adquirido un varón, Jehová”. ^4:2Y otra vez ella dio a luz a su hermano gemelo Abel.

Ahora Abel fue pastor de ovejas, y Caín fue labrador de la tierra. ^4:3Y aconteció en el transcurrir del tiempo, que Caín trajo del fruto de la tierra una ofrenda a Jehová. ^4:4Y Abel trajo también de los primogénitos de sus ovejas, y de su grosura. Y Jehová aceptó a Abel y a su ofrenda; ^4:5pero el rechazó a Caín y a su ofrenda de grano. Y se ensañó Caín en gran manera, y decayó su semblante. ^4:6Entonces Jehová dijo a Caín, “¿Por qué te has ensañado? ¿Y por qué ha decaído tu rostro? ^4:7¿Si bien hicieres, no serás exaltado? Y si no hicieres bien, el pecado está a la puerta; con todo esto, a ti será su deseo, y tú señorearás sobre él”.

^4:8Y habló Caín con su hermano Abel; y aconteció que estando ellos en el campo, Caín se levantó contra su hermano Abel, y le mató. ^4:9Y Jehová dijo a Caín, “¿Dónde está Abel tu hermano?”. Y él respondió, “No sé. ¿Acaso soy yo guarda de mi hermano?”. ^4:10Y él le dijo, “¿Qué has hecho? La voz de la sangre de tu hermano clama a mí desde la tierra. ^4:11Ahora pues, maldito seas tú de la tierra que abrió su boca para recibir de tu mano la sangre de tu hermano. ^4:12Cuando labrares la tierra, no te volverá a dar su fuerza. Errante y extranjero serás en la tierra”. ^4:13Y dijo Caín a Jehová, “Mi castigo es más grande de lo que puedo soportar. ^4:14He aquí me echas hoy de la faz de la tierra, y de tu presencia me esconderé. Y seré fugitivo y vagabundo en la tierra; y sucederá que cualquiera que me hallare, me matará”. ^4:15Y le respondió Jehová, “Ciertamente que cualquiera que matare a Caín, siete veces será castigado”. Entonces Jehová puso señal en Caín, para que no lo matase cualquiera que le hallara.

¶El complemento   Seth engendró una línea de hijos piadosos, quien llamó sobre el Nombre de Jehová (4:16 - 26)

^4:16Y Caín salió desde la presencia de Jehová, y habitó en tierra de Nod, al oriente de Edén. ^4:17Y conoció Caín a su esposa, la cual concibió y dio a luz a Enoc. Y edificó una ciudad, y llamó el nombre de la ciudad del nombre de su hijo, Enoc. ^4:18Y a Enoc nació Irad, e Irad engendró a Mehujael, y Mehujael engendró a Matusael, y Matusael engendró a Lamec.

^4:19Y tomó para sí Lamec dos esposas: el nombre de la una fue Ada, y el nombre de la otra Zila. ^4:20Y Ada dio a luz a Jabal; el cual fue padre de los que habitan en tiendas y crían ganado. ^4:21Y el nombre de su hermano fue Jubal: el cual fue padre de todos los que tocan arpa y órgano. ^4:22Y Zila, también dio a luz a Tubal-caín, artífice de toda obra de bronce y de hierro. Y la hermana de Tubal-caín fue Naama. ^4:23Y dijo Lamec a sus esposas, “Ada y Zila, oíd mi voz; esposas de Lamec, escuchad mi dicho: que a un varón maté por mi herida, y a un joven por mi golpe. ^4:24Si siete veces será vengado Caín, Lamec en verdad setenta veces siete lo será”.

^4:25Y conoció de nuevo Adán a su esposa; la cual dio a luz un hijo.

Y llamó su nombre Set, diciendo, “Porque Dios me ha sustituido otro hijo en lugar de Abel, a quien mató Caín”.

^4:26Y a Set también le nació un hijo, y llamó su nombre Enós. Entonces los hombres comenzaron a invocar el Nombre de Jehová.
