^25:21And Isaac interceded with Jehovah for his wife, because she was barren. And Jehovah heard him; and Rebecca his wife conceived.

^25:22And the children struggled together within her; and she said, “If it is well, why am I this way?”

And she went to inquire of Jehovah; ^25:23and Jehovah said to her, “Two nations are in your womb; and two manner of people shall be separated from your belly; and one people shall be stronger than the other people, and the older shall serve the younger.”

^25:24And when her days were fulfilled to give birth, behold, there were twins in her womb. ^25:25And the first came out red all over like a hairy garment; and they called his name Esau. ^25:26And after that his brother came out, and his hand took hold on Esau’s heel; and his name was called Jacob.

And Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them.

^25:27And the boys grew up; and Esau was a skilled hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a mild man, living in tents. ^25:28And Isaac loved Esau, because he ate of his venison; but Rebecca loved Jacob.

^25:29And Jacob boiled soup; and Esau came from the field, and he was faint. ^25:30And Esau said to Jacob, “Please, feed me with that same red soup, because I am faint” (therefore his name was called Edom). ^25:31And Jacob said, “Sell me this day your birthright.” ^25:32And Esau said, “Behold, I am at the point to die; and what good shall this birthright do to me?” ^25:33And Jacob said, “Swear to me this day”; and he swore to him, and he sold his birthright to Jacob.

^25:34Then Jacob gave Esau bread and soup of lentils; and he ate and drank, and rose up, and went his way; thus Esau despised his birthright.

“And in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, ^26:5because Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my Commandments, my Statutes, and my Laws.”

^26:6And Isaac dwelt in Gerar; ^26:7and the men of the place asked him of his wife. And he said, “She is my sister”, because he was afraid to say, “She is my wife”, “lest,” said he, “the men of the place should kill me for Rebecca”, because she was beautiful to look upon.

^26:8And it came to pass, when he had been there a long time, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a window, and saw; and behold, Isaac was laughing with Rebecca his wife. ^26:9And Abimelech called Isaac, and said, “Behold, it is certain that she is your wife; and why did you say, ‘She is my sister’?” And Isaac said to him, “Because I said, ‘Lest I die for her.’” ^26:10And Abimelech said, “What is this you have done to us? One of the people might lightly have slept with your wife, and you would have brought guilt upon us.” ^26:11And Abimelech commanded all his people, saying, “He that touches this man or his wife shall certainly be put to death.”

^26:12Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year a hundredfold; and Jehovah blessed him. ^26:13And the man became great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great: ^26:14for he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and a great number of servants. And the Philistines envied him: ^26:15for all the wells which his father’s servants had dug in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped them, and filled them with earth. ^26:16And Abimelech said to Isaac, “Go from us: for you are much more powerful than we.”

^26:17And Isaac left there, and pitched his tent in the valley of Gerar, and dwelt there. ^26:18And Isaac dug again the wells of water, which they had dug in the days of Abraham his father: for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham; and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them. ^26:19And Isaac’s servants dug in the valley, and found there a well of springing water. ^26:20And the herdsmen of Gerar argued with Isaac’s herdsmen, saying, “The water is ours!”; and he called the name of the well Esek, because they contended with him. ^26:21And they dug another well, and contended for that also; and he called its name Sitnah. ^26:22And he moved from there, and dug another well, and for that they did not contend; and he called its name Rehoboth, and he said, “For now Jehovah has made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.”

^26:23And he went up from there to Beer-sheba. ^26:24And Jehovah appeared to him the same night, and said, “I am the God of Abraham your father. Fear not: for I am with you, and will bless you, and multiply your seed for my servant Abraham’s sake.” ^26:25And he built an altar there; and he called upon the Name of Jehovah. And he pitched his tent there; and Isaac’s servants dug a well there.

^26:26Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath one of his friends, and Phichol the chief captain of his army. ^26:27And Isaac said to them, “Why do you come to me, seeing you hate me, and have sent me away from you?” ^26:28And they said, “We saw certainly that Jehovah was with you. And we said, ‘Let there now be an oath between us, even between us and you.’ And let us make a covenant with you, ^26:29that you will do us no harm, as we have not touched you, and as we have done nothing but good to you, and have sent you away in peace. You are now the blessed of Jehovah.” ^26:30And he made them a feast, and they ate and drank. ^26:31And they rose up early in the morning, and swore one to another; and Isaac sent them away; and they left him in peace.

^26:32And it came to pass the same day, that Isaac’s servants came, and told him concerning the well which they had dug, and said to him, “We have found water.” ^26:33And he called it Shebah; therefore the name of the city is Beer-sheba until this day.

^26:34And Esau was forty years old when he took Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Bashemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite to be his wife; ^26:35which were a grief of mind to Isaac and to Rebecca.

^27:1And it came to pass, that when Isaac was old and his eyes were dim (so that he could not see), he called Esau his oldest son, and said to him, “My son.” And he said to him, “Behold, here I am.”

^27:2And he said, “Behold now, I am old; I know not the day of my death. ^27:3Therefore, please take now your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison; ^27:4and make me seasoned meat, such as I love. And bring it to me that I may eat, that my soul may bless you before I die.” ^27:5And Rebecca heard when Isaac spoke to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to hunt for venison, and to bring it.

^27:6And Rebecca spoke to Jacob her son, saying, “Behold, I heard your father speak to Esau your brother, saying, ^27:7‘Bring me venison, and make me seasoned meat, that I may eat, and bless you before Jehovah before my death.’ ^27:8Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to that which I command you. ^27:9Go now to the flock, and bring me from there two good kids of the goats, and I will make them seasoned meat for your father, such as he loves. ^27:10And you shall bring it to your father, that he may eat, and that he may bless you before his death.” ^27:11And Jacob said to Rebecca his mother, “Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man. ^27:12Perhaps my father will feel me, and I shall seem as a deceiver to him; and then I shall bring a curse upon me, and not a blessing.” ^27:13And his mother said to him, “Upon me be your curse, my son; only obey my voice, and go bring them to me.”

^27:14And he went, and retrieved and brought them to his mother; and his mother made seasoned meat, such as his father loved. ^27:15And Rebecca took choice clothing of her oldest son Esau, which were with her in the house, and put them upon Jacob, her younger son. ^27:16And she put the skins of the kids of the goats upon his hands, and upon the smooth of his neck. ^27:17And she gave the seasoned meat and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob.

^27:18And he came to his father, and said, “My father.” And he said, “Here I am. Who are you, my son?” ^27:19And Jacob said to his father, “I am Esau your firstborn; I have done according as you told me. Please, arise; sit and eat of my venison, that your soul may bless me.” ^27:20And Isaac said to his son, “How is it that you have found it so quickly, my son?” And he said, “Because Jehovah your God brought it to me.”

^27:21And Isaac said to Jacob, “Please come near, that I may feel you, my son, whether you are my true son Esau or not.” ^27:22And Jacob went near to Isaac his father; and he felt him, and said, “The voice is Jacob’s voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.”

^27:23And he did not recognize him, because his hands were hairy, as his brother Esau’s hands: so he blessed him.

^27:24And he said, “Are you truly my son Esau?” And he said, “I am.” ^27:25And he said, “Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son’s venison, that my soul may bless you.” And he brought it near to him; and he ate; and he brought him wine; and he drank.

^27:26And his father Isaac said to him, “Come near now, and kiss me, my son.” ^27:27And he came near, and kissed him; and he smelled the smell of his garments, and blessed him; and said, “See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which Jehovah has blessed. ^27:28Therefore God give you of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and abundance of grain and wine. ^27:29Let people serve you, and nations bow down to you. Be lord over your brothers, and let your mother’s sons bow down to you. Cursed is every one that curses you, and blessed is he that blesses you.”

¶Unique   Isaac was forced to give Esau a blessing of servitude to Jacob (27:30 - 40)

^27:30And it came to pass, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob was yet scarcely gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting. ^27:31And he also had made seasoned meat; and brought it to his father, and said to his father, “Let my father arise, and eat of his son’s venison, that your soul may bless me.”

^27:32And Isaac his father said to him, “Who are you?” And he said, “I am your son, your firstborn Esau.” ^27:33And Isaac trembled very exceedingly, and said, “Who? Where is he that has taken venison, and brought it to me, and I have eaten of all before you came, and have blessed him? Indeed, and he shall be blessed.”

^27:34And when Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with a great and exceedingly bitter cry; and he said to his father, “Bless me, even me also, O my father!” ^27:35And he said, “Your brother came with deceit, and has taken away your blessing.” ^27:36And he said, “Is he not rightly named Jacob? For he has supplanted me these two times: he took away my birthright; and behold, now he has taken away my blessing.”

And he said, “Have you not reserved a blessing for me?” ^27:37And Isaac answered and said to Esau, “Behold, I have made him your lord; and I have given all his brothers to him for servants; and I have sustained him with grain and wine; and what shall I do now to you, my son?”

^27:38And Esau said to his father, “Have you but one blessing, my father? Bless me, even me also, O my father!” And Esau lifted up his voice, and wept. ^27:39And Isaac his father answered and said to him, “Behold, your dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above. ^27:40And you shall live by your sword, and shall serve your brother; and it shall come to pass when you shall have the dominion, that you shall break his yoke from off your neck.”

Then I will send, and bring you from there. Why should I be deprived also of you both in one day?” ^27:46And Rebecca said to Isaac, “I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth; if Jacob takes a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these which are of the daughters of the land, what good shall my life do me?” ^28:1And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, and said to him, “You shall not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan. ^28:2Arise, go to Padan-aram, to the house of Bethuel your mother’s father, and take a wife from there of the daughters of Laban your uncle. ^28:3And God Almighty bless you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, that you may be a multitude of people, ^28:4and give you the blessing of Abraham: to you and to your seed with you, that you may inherit the land in which you are a stranger, which God gave to Abraham.” ^28:5And Isaac sent away Jacob; and he went to Padan-aram to Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebecca, Jacob’s and Esau’s mother.

^28:6When Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob, and sent him away to Padan-aram, to take him a wife from there; and that as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, “You shall not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan”; ^28:7and that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and went to Padan-aram; ^28:8and Esau seeing that the daughters of Canaan did not please Isaac his father, ^28:9then Esau went to Ishmael, and took to the wives which he had Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham’s son, the sister of Nebajoth, to be his wife.

^28:10And Jacob went out from Beer-sheba, and went toward Haran. ^28:11And he came upon a certain place, and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. And he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and laid down in that place to sleep. ^28:12And he dreamed; and behold, a staircase was set up on the earth, and its top reached into Heaven. And behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending upon it. ^28:13And, behold, Jehovah stood above it, and said, “I am Jehovah, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac. The land that you lay on, unto you will I give it, and to your seed. ^28:14And your seed shall be as the dust of the earth; and you shall spread abroad to the west, to the east, to the north, and to the south. And in you and in your Seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. ^28:15And, behold, I am with you, and will protect you in all places where you go, and will bring you again into this land: for I will not leave you, until I have done that which I have spoken to you of.”

^28:16And Jacob awoke out of his sleep, and he said, “Surely Jehovah is in this place, and I did not know it.” ^28:17And he was afraid, and said, “How dreadful is this place! This is none other but the House of God; and this is the gate of Heaven.”

^28:18And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillow, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil on top of it. ^28:19And he called the name of that place Bethel, but the name of that city was called Luz at the first. ^28:20And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, “If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and clothing to put on, ^28:21so that I come again to my father’s house in peace, then Jehovah shall be my God. ^28:22And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God’s House; and of all that you shall give me, I will surely give the tenth to you.”

^29:1Then Jacob went on his journey, and came into the land of the people of the east. ^29:2And he looked, and behold a well in the field, and, lo, there were three flocks of sheep lying by it: for out of that well they watered the flocks; and a great stone was upon the well’s mouth. ^29:3And all the flocks were gathered there; and they rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and watered the sheep, and put the stone again upon the well’s mouth in his place. ^29:4And Jacob said to them, “My brethren, where are you from?” And they said, “We are of Haran.” ^29:5And he said to them, “Do you know Laban the son of Nahor?” And they said, “We know him.” ^29:6And he said to them, “Is he well?” And they said, “He is well; and behold, Rachel his daughter is coming with the sheep.” ^29:7And he said, “Look, it is still high day; neither is it time that the cattle should be gathered together; water the sheep, and go and feed them.” ^29:8And they said, “We cannot, until all the flocks are gathered together, and until they roll the stone from the well’s mouth; then we water the sheep.”

^29:9And while he still spoke with them, Rachel came with her father’s sheep: for she kept them. ^29:10And it came to pass, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his uncle, and the sheep of Laban his uncle, that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his uncle. ^29:11And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept. ^29:12And Jacob told Rachel that he was her father’s nephew, and that he was Rebecca’s son; and she ran and told her father. ^29:13And it came to pass, when Laban heard the news of Jacob his sister’s son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things. ^29:14And Laban said to him, “Surely you are my bone and my flesh.” And he stayed with him the space of a month.

^29:15And Laban said to Jacob, “Because you are my brother, should you therefore serve me for nothing? Tell me, what shall be your wages?” ^29:16And Laban had two daughters: the name of the older was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel. ^29:17Leah was homely, but Rachel was beautiful and well favored. ^29:18And Jacob loved Rachel; and he said, “I will serve you seven years for Rachel your younger daughter.” ^29:19And Laban said, “It is better that I give her to you, than that I should give her to another man; stay with me.”

^29:20And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed but a few days to him, for the love which he had to her. ^29:21And Jacob said to Laban, “Give me my wife: for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in to her.” ^29:22And Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast. ^29:23And it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to him; and he went in to her. ^29:24And Laban gave to his daughter Leah Zilpah his maidservant for a maidservant. ^29:25And it came to pass, that in the morning, behold, it was Leah; and he said to Laban, “What is this you have done to me? Did I not serve with you for Rachel? Why then have you tricked me?” ^29:26And Laban said, “It must not be so done in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn. ^29:27Fulfill her week of years, and we will give you this also for the service which you shall serve with me, yet another seven years.” ^29:28And Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week of years; and he gave him Rachel his daughter to be his wife also. ^29:29And Laban gave to Rachel his daughter Bilhah his maidservant to be her maidservant. ^29:30And he went in also to Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah, and served with him yet another seven years.

^29:31And when Jehovah saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren. ^29:32And Leah conceived, and bore a son; and she called his name Reuben: for she said, “Surely Jehovah has looked upon my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me.” ^29:33And she conceived again, and bore a son; and she said, “Because Jehovah has heard that I was hated; therefore he has given me this son also”; and she called his name Simeon. ^29:34And she conceived again, and bore a son; and she said, “Now this time my husband will be attached to me, because I have born him three sons”; therefore his name was called Levi. ^29:35And she conceived again, and bore a son; and she said, “Now will I praise Jehovah”; therefore she called his name Judah, and ceased bearing. ^30:1And when Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and she said to Jacob, “Give me children, or else I die!” ^30:2And Jacob’s anger was kindled against Rachel; and he said, “Am I in God’s place, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?” ^30:3And she said, “Behold my maidservant Bilhah. Go in to her; and she shall bear upon my knees, that I also may have children by her.” ^30:4And she gave him Bilhah her maidservant to be his wife; and Jacob went in to her. ^30:5And Bilhah conceived, and bore Jacob a son. ^30:6And Rachel said, “God has judged me, and has also heard my voice, and has given me a son”; therefore she called his name Dan. ^30:7And Bilhah Rachel’s maidservant conceived again, and bore Jacob a second son. ^30:8And Rachel said, “With great wrestling I have wrestled with my sister, and I have prevailed”; and she called his name Naphtali. ^30:9When Leah saw that she had ceased bearing children, she took Zilpah her maidservant, and gave her to Jacob to be his wife. ^30:10And Zilpah Leah’s maidservant bore Jacob a son. ^30:11And Leah said, “A troop is coming”; and she called his name Gad. ^30:12And Zilpah Leah’s maidservant bore Jacob a second son. ^30:13And Leah said, “Happy am I, because the daughters will call me blessed”; and she called his name Asher. ^30:14And Reuben went in the days of wheat harvest, and found mandrakes in the field, and brought them to his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, “Please, give me some of your son’s mandrakes.” ^30:15And she said to her, “Is it a small matter that you have taken my husband? And would you take away my son’s mandrakes also?” And Rachel said, “Therefore he shall lie with you tonight for your son’s mandrakes.” ^30:16And Jacob came out of the field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him, and said, “You must come in to me: for surely I have hired you with my son’s mandrakes.” And he lay with her that night. ^30:17And God gave heed to Leah; and she conceived, and bore Jacob the fifth son. ^30:18And Leah said, “God has given me my hire, because I have given my maidservant to my husband”; and she called his name Issachar. ^30:19And Leah conceived again, and bore Jacob the sixth son. ^30:20And Leah said, “God has given me a good dowry; now my husband will dwell with me, because I have born him six sons”; and she called his name Zebulun. ^30:21And afterwards she bore a twin daughter, and called her name Dinah. ^30:22And God remembered Rachel, and God gave heed to her, and opened her womb. ^30:23And she conceived, and bore a son; and she said, “God has taken away my reproach”; ^30:24and she called his name Joseph, and said, “Jehovah shall add to me another son.”

¶Lo opuesto  Dios respondió la oración de Isaac por Rebeca con dos hijos gemelos: Esaú y Jacob (25:19 - 23)

^25:19Y éstas son las generaciones de Isaac, hijo de Abraham. Abraham engendró a Isaac.

^25:20Y Isaac era cuarenta años de edad cuando tomó a Rebeca ser su esposa (hija de Betuel arameo de Padan-aram, y hermana de Labán arameo).

^25:21Y Isaac oró a Jehová para su esposa, que ella era estéril; y Jehová le escuchó; y Rebeca su esposa concibió.

^25:22Y los niños lucharon juntos dentro de ella; y dijo, “Si está bien, ¿por qué estoy así?”.

Y ella fue a inquirir de Jehová; ^25:23y le respondió Jehová, “Dos naciones hay en tu matriz, y dos tipos de personas serán separadas de tu vientre. y uno pueblo será más fuerte que el otro pueblo, y el mayor servirá al más joven”.

^25:24Y cuando sus días se cumplieron para dar a luz, he aquí, había gemelos en su vientre. ^25:25Y el primero salió rojo por todas partes como una prenda peluda; y llamaron su nombre Esaú. ^25:26Y luego salió su hermano, y su mano se aferró al talón de Esaú; y su nombre fue llamado Jacob.

E Isaac tenía sesenta años cuando ella dio a luz a Esaú y Jacob.

^25:27Y los muchachos crecieron arriba; y Esaú fue diestro en la caza, hombre del campo; pero Jacob era varón quieto, que habitaba en tiendas. ^25:28Y amó Isaac a Esaú: porque comía de su caza; pero Rebeca amaba a Jacob.

^25:29Y guisó Jacob un potaje; y volviendo Esaú del campo, cansado, ^25:30dijo a Jacob, “Te ruego que me des a comer de ese potaje rojo, pues estoy muy cansado” (por tanto, fue llamado su nombre Edom). ^25:31Y Jacob respondió, “Véndeme en este día tu primogenitura”. ^25:32Entonces dijo Esaú, “He aquí yo me voy a morir; ¿para qué, pues, me servirá la primogenitura?”. ^25:33Y dijo Jacob, “Júramelo en este día”. Y él le juró, y vendió a Jacob su primogenitura.

^25:34Entonces Jacob dio a Esaú pan y del guisado de las lentejas; y él comió y bebió, y se levantó y se fue. Así menospreció Esaú su primogenitura.

¶Lo opuesto   Jehová ordenó a Isaac permanecer en la tierra de los filisteos (26:1 - 11)

^26:1Y hubo hambre en la tierra, además de la primera hambre que hubo en los días de Abraham; y se fue Isaac a Abimelec rey de los filisteos, en Gerar.

^26:2Y se le apareció Jehová, y le dijo, “No desciendas a Egipto; habita en la tierra que yo te diré. ^26:3Habita en esta tierra, y seré contigo, y te bendeciré: porque a ti y a tu simiente daré todas estas tierras, y confirmaré el juramento que hice a Abraham tu padre. ^26:4Y multiplicaré tu simiente como las estrellas del cielo, y a tu simiente daré todas estas tierras.

“Y en tu simiente serán benditas todas las naciones de la tierra; ^26:5por cuanto oyó Abraham mi voz, y guardó mi precepto, mis Mandamientos, mis Estatutos y mis Leyes”.

^26:6Habitó, pues, Isaac en Gerar. ^26:7Y los hombres de aquel lugar le preguntaron acerca de su esposa; y él respondió, “Es mi hermana”: porque tuvo miedo de decir, “Es mi esposa”; pues se dijo, “Los hombres del lugar me matarán por causa de Rebeca”; pues ella era de hermoso aspecto.

^26:8Y sucedió que después que él estuvo allí muchos días, Abimelec, rey de los filisteos, mirando por una ventana, vio a Isaac que jugueteaba con su esposa Rebeca. ^26:9Y llamó Abimelec a Isaac, y dijo, “He aquí ella es de cierto tu esposa; ¿cómo, pues, dijiste, ‘Es mi hermana’?”. E Isaac le respondió, “Porque dije, ‘Quizá moriré por causa de ella’”. ^26:10Y Abimelec dijo, “¿Por qué nos has hecho esto? Por poco hubiera dormido alguno del pueblo con tu esposa, y hubieras traído sobre nosotros el pecado”. ^26:11Entonces Abimelec mandó a todo el pueblo, diciendo, “El que tocare a este hombre o a su esposa, de cierto morirá”.

¶Lo opuesto   El conflicto con los filisteos por los pozos de agua obligó a Isaac mudarse a Beerseba (26:12 - 33)

^26:12Y sembró Isaac en aquella tierra, y cosechó aquel año ciento por uno; y le bendijo Jehová. ^26:13Y el varón se enriqueció, y fue prosperado, y creció hasta hacerse muy poderoso. ^26:14Y tuvo hato de ovejas, hato de vacas y mucha servidumbre; y los filisteos le tuvieron envidia. ^26:15Y todos los pozos que habían abierto los siervos de Abraham su padre en sus días, los filisteos los habían cegado y llenado de tierra. ^26:16Y dijo Abimelec a Isaac, “Apártate de nosotros: porque mucho más poderoso que nosotros te has hecho”.

^26:17E Isaac se fue de allí; y asentó sus tiendas en el valle de Gerar, y habitó allí. ^26:18Y volvió a abrir Isaac los pozos de agua que habían abierto en los días de Abraham su padre, y que los filisteos habían cegado después de la muerte de Abraham; y los llamó por los nombres que su padre los había llamado. ^26:19Y los siervos de Isaac cavaron en el valle, y hallaron allí un pozo de aguas vivas. ^26:20Y los pastores de Gerar riñeron con los pastores de Isaac, diciendo, “¡El agua es nuestra!”. Por eso llamó el nombre del pozo Esek: porque habían altercado con él. ^26:21Y abrieron otro pozo, y también riñeron sobre él; y llamó su nombre Sitna. ^26:22Y se apartó de allí, y abrió otro pozo, y no riñeron sobre él; y llamó su nombre Rehobot, y dijo, “Porque ahora nos ha hecho ensanchar Jehová y fructificaremos en la tierra”.

^26:23Y de allí subió a Beerseba. ^26:24Y se le apareció Jehová aquella noche, y le dijo, “Yo soy el Dios de Abraham tu padre; no temas: porque yo estoy contigo, y te bendeciré, y multiplicaré tu simiente por amor de Abraham mi siervo”. ^26:25Y edificó allí un altar, e invocó el Nombre de Jehová, y tendió allí su tienda; y abrieron allí los siervos de Isaac un pozo.

^26:26Y Abimelec vino a él desde Gerar, y Ahuzat, amigo suyo, y Ficol, capitán de su ejército. ^26:27Y les dijo Isaac, “¿Por qué venís a mí, pues que me habéis aborrecido, y me echasteis de entre ustedes?”. ^26:28Y respondieron, “Hemos visto que Jehová ha estado contigo; y dijimos, ‘Haya ahora juramento entre nosotros; entre tú y nosotros’. Y haremos un pacto contigo, ^26:29de que no nos harás mal, como nosotros no te hemos tocado, y como solamente te hemos hecho bien, y te enviamos en paz. Tú eres ahora bendito de Jehová”. ^26:30Entonces él les hizo banquete, y comieron y bebieron. ^26:31Y se levantaron de madrugada, y juraron el uno al otro; e Isaac los despidió, y partieron de él en paz.

^26:32Y en aquel día sucedió que vinieron los criados de Isaac, y le dieron las nuevas acerca del pozo que habían abierto, y le dijeron, “Hemos hallado agua”. ^26:33Y lo llamó Seba; por cuya causa el nombre de aquella ciudad es Beerseba hasta este día.

¶El complemento   Rebecca intrigó con Jacob para engañar a Isaac para que bendiga a Jacob en lugar de a Esaú (26:34 - 27:17)

^26:34Y cuando Esaú fue de cuarenta años, tomó por esposa a Judit hija de Beeri heteo, y a Basemat hija de Elón heteo; ^26:35y fueron amargura de espíritu a Isaac y a Rebeca.

^27:1Y aconteció que cuando Isaac envejeció, y sus ojos se oscurecieron quedando sin vista, llamó a Esaú, su hijo el mayor, y le dijo, “Mi hijo”. Y él respondió, “Heme aquí”.

^27:2Y él dijo, “He aquí ya soy viejo, no sé el día de mi muerte. ^27:3Toma, pues, ahora tus armas, tu aljaba y tu arco, y sal al campo, y tráeme caza; ^27:4y hazme un guisado, como a mí me gusta, y tráemelo, y comeré, para que mi alma te bendiga antes que yo muera”. ^27:5Y Rebeca estaba oyendo, cuando hablaba Isaac a Esaú su hijo; y se fue Esaú al campo para cazar lo que había de traer.

^27:6Entonces Rebeca habló a Jacob su hijo, diciendo, “He aquí yo he oído a tu padre que hablaba con Esaú tu hermano, diciendo: ^27:7‘Tráeme caza y hazme un guisado, para que coma, y te bendiga delante de Jehová antes que yo muera’. ^27:8Ahora, pues, hijo mío, obedece a mi voz en lo que te mando. ^27:9Ve ahora al rebaño, y tráeme de allí dos buenos cabritos de las cabras, y haré de ellos un guisado para tu padre, como a él le gusta; ^27:10y tú lo llevarás a tu padre, y comerá, para que te bendiga antes de su muerte”. ^27:11Y Jacob dijo a Rebeca su madre, “He aquí Esaú mi hermano es hombre velloso, y yo lampiño. ^27:12Quizá me palpará mi padre, y me tendrá por engañador, y traeré sobre mí maldición y no bendición”. ^27:13Y su madre respondió, “Hijo mío, sea sobre mí tu maldición; solamente obedece a mi voz, y ve y tráemelos”.

^27:14Entonces él fue, y tomó, y los trajo a su madre; y su madre hizo un guisado, como le gustaba a su padre. ^27:15Y tomó Rebeca la ropa preciosa de Esaú, su hijo mayor, que ella tenía en casa, y vistió a Jacob su hijo menor. ^27:16Y le hizo vestir sobre sus manos y sobre la cerviz donde no tenía vello, las pieles de los cabritos de las cabras. ^27:17Y entregó el guisado y el pan que había aderezado, en mano de Jacob su hijo.

¶El complemento   Jacob recibió la bendición de Isaac disfrazado de Esaú (27:18 - 29)

^27:18Y él fue a su padre, y dijo, “Padre mío”. Y él respondió, “Heme aquí. ¿Quién eres, hijo mío?”. ^27:19Y Jacob dijo a su padre, “Soy Esaú tu primogénito; he hecho como me dijiste: levántate ahora, y siéntate, y come de mi caza, para que me bendiga tu alma”. ^27:20Entonces Isaac dijo a su hijo, “¿Cómo es que la hallaste tan pronto, hijo mío?”. Y él respondió: “Porque Jehová tu Dios hizo que se encontrase delante de mí”.

^27:21E Isaac dijo a Jacob, “Acércate ahora, y te palparé, hijo mío, por si eres mi hijo Esaú o no”. ^27:22Y se acercó Jacob a su padre Isaac; y él le palpó, y dijo, “La voz es la voz de Jacob, pero las manos, son las manos de Esaú”.

^27:23Y no le conoció: porque sus manos eran vellosas como las manos de Esaú; y le bendijo.

^27:24Y dijo, “¿Eres tú mi hijo Esaú?”. Y él respondió, “Soy”. ^27:25Y dijo, “Acércamela, y comeré de la caza de mi hijo, para que te bendiga mi alma”. Y él se la acercó, y comió; le trajo también vino, y bebió.

^27:26Y le dijo Isaac su padre, “Acércate ahora, y bésame, hijo mío”. ^27:27Y él se acercó, y le besó; y olió Isaac el olor de sus vestiduras, y le bendijo, y dijo, “Mira, el olor de mi hijo como el olor del campo que Jehová ha bendecido: ^27:28Dios, pues, te dé del rocío del cielo, y de las grosuras de la tierra, y abundancia de trigo y de mosto. ^27:29Pueblos te sirvan, y naciones se inclinen a ti. Sé señor de tus hermanos, e inclínense a ti los hijos de tu madre. Malditos los que te maldijeren, y benditos los que te bendijeren”.

¶Único   Isaac se vio obligado a darle a Esaú una bendición de servidumbre a Jacob (27:30 - 40)

^27:30Y aconteció, luego que hubo Isaac acabado de bendecir a Jacob, y apenas había salido Jacob de delante de Isaac su padre, que Esaú su hermano vino de su caza. ^27:31Y él también hizo un guisado, y lo trajo a su padre, y le dijo, “Levántese mi padre, y coma de la caza de su hijo, para que me bendiga su alma”.

^27:32Entonces Isaac su padre le dijo, “¿Quién eres tú?”. Y él dijo, “Yo soy tu hijo, tu primogénito, Esaú”. ^27:33Y se estremeció Isaac en extremo, y dijo, “¿Quién es el que vino aquí, que tomó caza, y me trajo, y comí de todo antes que vinieses? yo le bendije, y será bendito”.

^27:34Cuando Esaú oyó las palabras de su padre clamó con una muy grande y muy amarga exclamación, y le dijo, “¡Bendíceme también a mí, padre mío!”. ^27:35Y él dijo, “Vino tu hermano con engaño, y tomó tu bendición”. ^27:36Y él respondió, “¿Bien llamaron su nombre Jacob? Que ya me ha suplantado dos veces; se apoderó de mi primogenitura, y he aquí ahora ha tomado mi bendición”.

Y dijo, “¿No has guardado bendición para mí?”. ^27:37Isaac respondió y dijo a Esaú, “He aquí yo le he puesto por señor tuyo, y le he dado por siervos a todos sus hermanos; de trigo y de vino le he provisto; ¿qué, pues, te haré a ti ahora, hijo mío?”.

^27:38Y Esaú respondió a su padre, “¿No tienes más que una sola bendición, padre mío? Bendíceme también a mí, padre mío”. Y alzó Esaú su voz, y lloró. ^27:39Entonces Isaac su padre habló y le dijo, “He aquí será tu habitación en grosuras de la tierra, y del rocío de los cielos de arriba. ^27:40Y por tu espada vivirás, y a tu hermano servirás: Y sucederá cuando te enseñorees, que descargarás su yugo de tu cerviz”.

^27:41Y Esaú aborreció a Jacob a causa de la bendición con que le había bendecido su padre, y dijo en su corazón, “Llegarán los días del luto de mi padre, y entonces yo mataré a mi hermano Jacob”. ^27:42Y fueron dichas a Rebeca las palabras de Esaú su hijo mayor: y ella envió y llamó a Jacob su hijo menor, y le dijo, “He aquí, Esaú tu hermano se consuela acerca de ti con la idea de matarte. ^27:43Ahora pues, hijo mío, obedece a mi voz; levántate, y huye a casa de Labán mi hermano, a Harán. ^27:44Y mora con él algunos días, hasta que el enojo de tu hermano se mitigue; ^27:45hasta que se aplaque la ira de tu hermano contra ti, y se olvide de lo que le has hecho: yo enviaré entonces, y te traeré de allá: ¿por qué seré privada de ustedes ambos en un día?”. ^27:46Y dijo Rebeca a Isaac, “Fastidio tengo de mi vida a causa de las hijas de Het. Si Jacob toma esposa de las hijas de Het, como éstas, de las hijas de esta tierra, ¿para qué quiero la vida?”. ^28:1Entonces Isaac llamó a Jacob, y le bendijo, y le mandó diciendo: “No tomes esposa de las hijas de Canaán. ^28:2Levántate, ve a Padan-aram, a casa de Betuel, padre de tu madre, y toma allí esposa de las hijas de Labán, hermano de tu madre. ^28:3Y el Dios omnipotente te bendiga y te haga fructificar, y te multiplique, hasta venir a ser multitud de pueblos; ^28:4y te dé la bendición de Abraham, y a tu simiente contigo, para que heredes la tierra de tus peregrinaciones, que Dios dio a Abraham”. ^28:5Así envió Isaac a Jacob, el cual fue a Padan-aram, a Labán, hijo de Betuel arameo, hermano de Rebeca, madre de Jacob y de Esaú.

^28:6Y vio Esaú cómo Isaac había bendecido a Jacob, y le había enviado a Padan-aram, para tomar para sí esposa de allí; y que cuando le bendijo, le había mandado, diciendo, “No tomarás esposa de las hijas de Canaán”; ^28:7y que Jacob había obedecido a su padre y a su madre, y se había ido a Padan-aram. ^28:8Vio asimismo Esaú que las hijas de Canaán parecían mal a Isaac su padre; ^28:9y se fue Esaú a Ismael, y tomó para sí por esposa a Mahalat, hija de Ismael, hijo de Abraham, hermana de Nebaiot, además de sus otras esposas.

^28:10Y salió Jacob de Beerseba, y fue a Harán; ^28:11y encontró con un lugar, y durmió allí porque ya el sol se había puesto; y tomó una de las piedras de aquel paraje y la puso de cabecera, y se acostó en aquel lugar. ^28:12Y soñó, y he aquí una escalera que estaba apoyada en tierra, y su extremo tocaba en el Cielo: y he aquí ángeles de Dios que subían y descendían por ella. ^28:13Y he aquí, Jehová estaba en lo alto de ella, el cual dijo, “Yo soy Jehová, el Dios de Abraham tu padre, y el Dios de Isaac. La tierra en que estás acostado te la daré a ti y a tu simiente. ^28:14Y será tu simiente como el polvo de la tierra, y te extenderás al occidente, y al oriente, y al norte, y al sur; y todas las familias de la tierra serán benditas en ti y en tu simiente. ^28:15Y he aquí, yo estoy contigo, y te guardaré por dondequiera que vayas, y te volveré a esta tierra: porque no te dejaré hasta tanto que haya hecho lo que te he dicho”.

^28:16Y despertó Jacob de su sueño y dijo, “Ciertamente Jehová está en este lugar, y yo no lo sabía”. ^28:17Y tuvo miedo, y dijo, “¡Cuán terrible es este lugar! Esto no es otra cosa sino Casa de Dios y puerta del Cielo”.

^28:18Y se levantó Jacob de mañana, y tomó la piedra que había puesto de cabecera, y la alzó por columna, y derramó aceite sobre ella. ^28:19Y llamó el nombre de aquel lugar Betel, bien que Luz era el nombre de la ciudad primero. ^28:20E hizo Jacob voto, diciendo, “Si Dios va conmigo, y me guarda en este viaje que voy, y me da pan para comer y vestidura para vestir, ^28:21y si vuelvo en paz a casa de mi padre, Jehová será mi Dios, ^28:22y esta piedra que he puesto por columna será casa de Dios; y de todo lo que me des, el diezmo apartaré para ti”.

^29:1Y siguió Jacob su camino, y fue a la tierra de los orientales. ^29:2Y miró, y vio un pozo en el campo: y he aquí tres rebaños de ovejas que yacían cerca de él: porque de aquel pozo abrevaban los ganados: y había una gran piedra sobre la boca del pozo. ^29:3Y se juntaban allí todos los rebaños; y revolvían la piedra de sobre la boca del pozo, y abrevaban las ovejas; y volvían la piedra sobre la boca del pozo a su lugar. ^29:4Y les dijo Jacob, “¿Hermanos míos, de dónde sois? Y respondieron, “De Harán somos”. ^29:5Y él les dijo, “¿Conocéis a Labán, hijo de Nacor?”. Y dijeron, “Sí, le conocemos”. ^29:6Y él les dijo, “¿Tiene paz?”. Y dijeron, “Paz; y he aquí Raquel su hija viene con el ganado”. ^29:7Y él dijo, “He aquí el día es aún grande; no es tiempo todavía de recoger el ganado; abrevad las ovejas, e id a apacentarlas”. ^29:8Y respondieron, “No podemos, hasta que se junten todos los ganados, y remuevan la piedra de sobre la boca del pozo, para que abrevemos las ovejas”.

^29:9Y mientras él aún hablaba con ellos Raquel vino con el ganado de su padre: porque ella era la pastora. ^29:10Y sucedió que cuando Jacob vio a Raquel, hija de Labán hermano de su madre, y a las ovejas de Labán, el hermano de su madre, se acercó Jacob, y removió la piedra de sobre la boca del pozo, y abrevó el ganado de Labán hermano de su madre.^29:11 Y Jacob besó a Raquel, y alzó su voz, y lloró. ^29:12Y Jacob dijo a Raquel que él era hermano de su padre, y que era hijo de Rebeca: y ella corrió, y dio las nuevas a su padre. ^29:13Y sucedió que cuando Labán oyó las nuevas de Jacob, hijo de su hermana, corrió a recibirlo, y lo abrazó, y lo besó, y le trajo a su casa; y él contó a Labán todas estas cosas. ^29:14Y Labán le dijo, “Ciertamente hueso mío y carne mía eres”. Y estuvo con él el tiempo de un mes.

^29:15Entonces dijo Labán a Jacob, “¿Por ser tú mi hermano, me has de servir de balde? Declárame qué será tu salario”. ^29:16Y Labán tenía dos hijas: el nombre de la mayor era Lea, y el nombre de la menor, Raquel. ^29:17Y los ojos de Lea eran tiernos, pero Raquel era de lindo semblante y de hermoso parecer. ^29:18Y Jacob amó a Raquel, y dijo, “Yo te serviré siete años por Raquel tu hija menor”. ^29:19Y Labán respondió, “Mejor es que te la dé a ti, y no que la dé a otro hombre; quédate conmigo”.

^29:20Así sirvió Jacob por Raquel siete años; y le parecieron como pocos días porque la amaba. ^29:21Y dijo Jacob a Labán, “Dame mi esposa: porque mi tiempo es cumplido para que cohabite con ella”. ^29:22Entonces Labán juntó a todos los varones de aquel lugar, e hizo banquete. ^29:23Y sucedió que a la noche tomó a Lea su hija, y se la trajo; y él entró a ella. ^29:24Y dio Labán su sierva Zilpa a su hija Lea por criada. ^29:25Y venida la mañana, he aquí que era Lea; y él dijo a Labán, “¿Qué es esto que me has hecho? ¿No te he servido por Raquel? ¿Por qué, pues, me has engañado?”. ^29:26Y Labán respondió, “No se hace así en nuestro lugar, que se dé la menor antes de la mayor. ^29:27Cumple la semana de ésta, y se te dará también la otra, por el servicio que hicieres conmigo otros siete años”. ^29:28E hizo Jacob así, y cumplió la semana de aquélla; y él le dio a Raquel su hija por esposa. ^29:29Y dio Labán a Raquel su hija por criada a su sierva Bilha. ^29:30Y entró también a Raquel; y la amó también más que a Lea: y sirvió con él aún otros siete años.

^29:31Y vio Jehová que Lea era aborrecida, y abrió su matriz; pero Raquel era estéril. ^29:32Y concibió Lea, y dio a luz un hijo, y llamó su nombre Rubén: porque dijo, “Ya que Jehová ha mirado mi aflicción; de cierto ahora me amará mi marido”. ^29:33Y concibió otra vez, y dio a luz un hijo, y dijo, “Por cuanto oyó Jehová que yo era aborrecida, me ha dado también éste”. Y llamó su nombre Simeón. ^29:34Y concibió otra vez, y dio a luz un hijo, y dijo, “Ahora esta vez se unirá mi marido conmigo: porque le he dado a luz tres hijos”; por tanto, llamó su nombre Leví. ^29:35Y concibió otra vez, y dio a luz un hijo, y dijo, “Esta vez alabaré a Jehová”; por esto llamó su nombre Judá; y dejó de dar a luz. ^30:1Y viendo Raquel que no daba hijos a Jacob, tuvo envidia de su hermana, y decía a Jacob, “¡Dame hijos, o si no, me muero!”. ^30:2Y Jacob se enojaba contra Raquel, y decía, “¿Soy yo en lugar de Dios, que te impidió el fruto de tu vientre?”. ^30:3Y ella dijo, “He aquí mi sierva Bilha; entra a ella, y dará a luz sobre mis rodillas, y yo también tendré hijos de ella”. ^30:4Así le dio a Bilha su sierva por esposa; y Jacob entró a ella. ^30:5Y concibió Bilha, y dio a luz un hijo a Jacob. ^30:6Y dijo Raquel, “Me juzgó Dios, y también oyó mi voz, y me dio un hijo”; por tanto llamó su nombre Dan. ^30:7Y concibió otra vez Bilha, la sierva de Raquel, y dio a luz el hijo segundo a Jacob. ^30:8Y dijo Raquel, “Con grandes luchas he contendido con mi hermana, y he vencido”; y llamó su nombre Neftalí. ^30:9Y viendo Lea que había dejado de dar a luz, tomó a Zilpa su sierva, y la dio a Jacob por esposa. ^30:10Y Zilpa, sierva de Lea, dio a luz a Jacob un hijo. ^30:11Y dijo Lea, “Vino la ventura”. Y llamó su nombre Gad. ^30:12Y Zilpa, la sierva de Lea, dio a luz otro hijo a Jacob. ^30:13Y dijo Lea, “¡Qué dicha la mía! Porque las mujeres me dirán bienaventurada”; y llamó su nombre Aser. ^30:14Y fue Rubén en tiempo de la siega de los trigos, y halló mandrágoras en el campo, y las trajo a Lea su madre: y dijo Raquel a Lea, “Te ruego que me des de las mandrágoras de tu hijo”. ^30:15Y ella respondió, “¿Es poco que hayas tomado mi marido, sino que también te has de llevar las mandrágoras de mi hijo?”. Y dijo Raquel, “Pues dormirá contigo esta noche por las mandrágoras de tu hijo”. ^30:16Y cuando Jacob volvía del campo a la tarde, salió Lea a él, y le dijo, “A mí has de entrar: porque a la verdad te he alquilado por las mandrágoras de mi hijo”. Y se acostó con ella aquella noche. ^30:17Y oyó Dios a Lea: y concibió, y dio a luz a Jacob el quinto hijo. ^30:18Y dijo Lea, “Dios me ha dado mi recompensa, por cuanto di mi sierva a mi marido”; por eso llamó su nombre Isacar. ^30:19Y concibió Lea otra vez, y dio a luz el sexto hijo a Jacob. ^30:20Y dijo Lea, “Dios me ha dado una buena dote; ahora morará conmigo mi marido: porque le he dado a luz seis hijos”; y llamó su nombre Zabulón. ^30:21Y después dio a luz una hija, y llamó su nombre Dina. ^30:22Y se acordó Dios de Raquel, y la oyó Dios, y abrió su matriz. ^30:23Y concibió, y dio a luz un hijo: y dijo, “Dios ha quitado mi afrenta”; ^30:24y llamó su nombre José, diciendo, “Añádame Jehová otro hijo”.
