^1:1And Jehovah spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the Tabernacle of the congregation, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they came out of the land of Egypt, saying, ^1:2“Take a census of all the congregation of the children of Israel (after their families, by the house of their fathers, with the number of their names, every male by their heads; ^1:3from twenty years old and upward, all that are able to go forth to war in Israel); you and Aaron shall count them by their armies. ^1:4And there shall be with you a man of every tribe; every one the head of the house of his fathers. ^1:5And these are the names of the men that shall stand with you: of Reuben: Elizur the son of Shedeur; ^1:6of Simeon: Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai; ^1:7of Judah: Nahshon the son of Amminadab; ^1:8of Issachar: Nethaneel the son of Zuar; ^1:9of Zebulun: Eliab the son of Helon; ^1:10of the children of Joseph: of Ephraim: Elishama the son of Ammihud; and of Manasseh: Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur; ^1:11of Benjamin: Abidan the son of Gideoni; ^1:12of Dan: Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai; ^1:13of Asher: Pagiel the son of Ocran; ^1:14of Gad: Eliasaph the son of Deuel; ^1:15of Naphtali: Ahira the son of Enan.” ^1:16These were the chosen leaders of the congregation; princes of the tribes of their fathers, and heads of thousands in Israel.

And they declared their pedigrees after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, by their heads; ^1:19as Jehovah commanded Moses, so he counted them in the wilderness of Sinai.

^1:20And the children of Reuben, Israel's oldest son (by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, by their heads, every male from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war): ^1:21those that were counted of them, of the tribe of Reuben, were forty-six thousand, five hundred. ^1:22Of the children of Simeon (by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, those that were counted of them, according to the number of the names, by their heads, every male from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war): ^1:23those that were counted of them, of the tribe of Simeon, were fifty-nine thousand, three hundred. ^1:24Of the children of Gad (by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war): ^1:25those that were counted of them, of the tribe of Gad, were forty-five thousand, six hundred and fifty. ^1:26Of the children of Judah (by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war): ^1:27those that were counted of them, even of the tribe of Judah, were seventy-four thousand, six hundred. ^1:28Of the children of Issachar (by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war): ^1:29those that were counted of them, of the tribe of Issachar, were fifty-four thousand, four hundred. ^1:30Of the children of Zebulun (by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war): ^1:31those that were counted of them, of the tribe of Zebulun, were fifty-seven thousand, four hundred. ^1:32Of the children of Joseph, namely, of the children of Ephraim, (by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war): ^1:33those that were counted of them, of the tribe of Ephraim, were forty thousand, five hundred. ^1:34Of the children of Manasseh (by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war): ^1:35those that were counted of them, of the tribe of Manasseh, were thirty-two thousand, two hundred. ^1:36Of the children of Benjamin (by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war): ^1:37those that were counted of them, of the tribe of Benjamin, were thirty-five thousand, four hundred. ^1:38Of the children of Dan (by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war): ^1:39those that were counted of them, of the tribe of Dan, were sixty-two thousand, seven hundred. ^1:40Of the children of Asher (by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war): ^1:41those that were counted of them, even of the tribe of Asher, were forty-one thousand, five hundred. ^1:42Of the children of Naphtali (throughout their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war): ^1:43those that were counted of them, of the tribe of Naphtali, were fifty-three thousand, four hundred.

^1:44These are those that were counted, which Moses and Aaron counted; and the princes of Israel, being twelve men: each one was for the house of his fathers. ^1:45So all those that were counted of the children of Israel (by the house of their fathers, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war in Israel), ^1:46even all they that were counted were six hundred and three thousand, five hundred fifty.

^1:47But the Levites after the tribe of their fathers were not counted among them: ^1:48for Jehovah had spoken to Moses, saying, ^1:49“Only you shall not count the tribe of Levi; neither take a census of them among the children of Israel. ^1:50But you shall appoint the Levites over the Tabernacle of Testimony, and over all its vessels, and over all things that belong to it. They shall carry the Tabernacle, and all its vessels; and they shall minister to it, and shall camp round about the Tabernacle. ^1:51And when the Tabernacle sets forward, the Levites shall take it down; and when the Tabernacle is to be pitched, the Levites shall set it up; and the stranger that comes near shall be put to death. ^1:52And the children of Israel shall pitch their tents, every man by his own camp, and every man by his own standard, throughout their armies. ^1:53But the Levites shall camp round about the Tabernacle of Testimony, so that there is no wrath upon the congregation of the children of Israel; and the Levites shall keep the charge of the Tabernacle of Testimony.” ^1:54And the children of Israel did according to all that Jehovah commanded Moses: so did they.

^2:1And Jehovah spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, ^2:2“Every man of the children of Israel shall camp by his own standard, with the ensign of their father's house; they shall camp far away around the Tabernacle of the congregation. ^2:3And on the east side toward the rising of the sun they of the standard of the camp of Judah shall camp throughout their armies. And Nahshon the son of Amminadab shall be captain of the children of Judah; ^2:4and his army, and those that were counted of them, were seventy-four thousand, six hundred. ^2:5And those that camp next to him shall be the tribe of Issachar. And Nethaneel the son of Zuar shall be captain of the children of Issachar; ^2:6and his army, and those that were counted of it, were fifty-four thousand, four hundred. ^2:7Then shall be the tribe of Zebulun; and Eliab the son of Helon shall be captain of the children of Zebulun; ^2:8and his army, and those that were counted of it, were fifty-seven thousand, four hundred. ^2:9All that were counted in the camp of Judah were one hundred and eighty-six thousand, four hundred, throughout their armies. These shall set forth first.

^2:10On the south side shall be the standard of the camp of Reuben according to their armies. And the captain of the children of Reuben shall be Elizur the son of Shedeur; ^2:11and his army, and those that were counted of it, were forty-six thousand, five hundred. ^2:12And those which camp by him shall be the tribe of Simeon. And the captain of the children of Simeon shall be Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai; ^2:13and his army, and those that were counted of them, were fifty-nine thousand, three hundred. ^2:14Then shall be the tribe of Gad; and the captain of the sons of Gad shall be Eliasaph the son of Reuel; ^2:15and his army, and those that were counted of them, were forty-five thousand, six hundred and fifty. ^2:16All that were counted in the camp of Reuben were one hundred fifty-one thousand, four hundred and fifty, throughout their armies. And they shall set forth in the second rank.

^2:17Then the Tabernacle of the congregation shall set forward with the camp of the Levites in the midst of the entire camp. As they camp, so shall they set forward, every man in his place by their standards. ^2:18On the west side shall be the standard of the camp of Ephraim according to their armies. And the captain of the sons of Ephraim shall be Elishama the son of Ammihud; ^2:19and his army, and those that were counted of them, were forty thousand, five hundred. ^2:20And by him shall be the tribe of Manasseh. And the captain of the children of Manasseh shall be Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur; ^2:21and his army, and those that were counted of them, were thirty-two thousand, two hundred. ^2:22Then shall be the tribe of Benjamin; and the captain of the sons of Benjamin shall be Abidan the son of Gideoni; ^2:23and his army, and those that were counted of them, were thirty-five thousand, four hundred. ^2:24All that were counted of the camp of Ephraim were one hundred and eight thousand, one hundred, throughout their armies. And they shall go forward in the third rank.

^2:25The standard of the camp of Dan shall be on the north side by their armies. And the captain of the children of Dan shall be Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai; ^2:26and his army, and those that were counted of them, were sixty-two thousand, seven hundred. ^2:27And those that camp by him shall be the tribe of Asher. And the captain of the children of Asher shall be Pagiel the son of Ocran; ^2:28and his army, and those that were counted of them, were forty-one thousand, five hundred. ^2:29Then shall be the tribe of Naphtali; and the captain of the children of Naphtali shall be Ahira the son of Enan; ^2:30and his army, and those that were counted of them, were fifty-three thousand, four hundred. ^2:31All they that were counted in the camp of Dan were one hundred and fifty-seven thousand, six hundred. They shall go hindmost with their standards.”

^2:32These are those which were counted of the children of Israel by the house of their fathers: all those that were counted of the camps throughout their armies were six hundred and three thousand, five hundred and fifty. ^2:33But the Levites were not counted among the children of Israel, as Jehovah commanded Moses. ^2:34And the children of Israel did according to all that Jehovah commanded Moses: so they camped by their standards; and so they set forward, everyone after their families, according to the house of their fathers.

§Complement Body: Jehovah separated the tribe of Levi from the children of Israel to serve the high priest in the Tabernacle (3:1 - 51)

¶Unique Two of Aaron’s sons died before Jehovah, and two remained: Eleazar and Ithamar (3:1 - 4)

^3:1These also are the generations of Aaron and Moses in the day that Jehovah spoke with Moses in mount Sinai.

^3:2And these are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. ^3:3These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the priests which were anointed, whom he consecrated to minister in the priest's office.

^3:5And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, ^3:6“Bring the tribe of Levi near, and present them before Aaron the priest, that they may minister to him.

^3:7And they shall keep his charge, and the charge of the whole congregation before the Tabernacle of the congregation, to do the service of the Tabernacle.

^3:8And they shall keep all the instruments of the Tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the children of Israel, to do the service of the Tabernacle.

^3:9And you shall give the Levites to Aaron and to his sons: they are wholly given to him out of the children of Israel.

¶Complement Jehovah took the tribe of Levi instead of the firstborn children of the people of Israel (3:11 - 13)

^3:11And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, ^3:12“And I, behold, I have taken the Levites from among the children of Israel instead of all the firstborn that opens the womb among the children of Israel.

¶Opposite Jehovah commanded Moses to take a census of the tribe of Levi by their families: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari (3:14 - 39)

^3:14And Jehovah spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, saying, ^3:15“Take a census of the children of Levi after the house of their fathers, by their families: every male from a month old and upward shall you count them.” ^3:16(And Moses counted them according to the Word of Jehovah, as he was commanded. ^3:17And these were the sons of Levi by their names: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. ^3:18And these are the names of the sons of Gershon by their families: Libni and Shimei; ^3:19and the sons of Kohath by their families: Amram, Izehar, Hebron, and Uzziel; ^3:20and the sons of Merari by their families: Mahli and Mushi; these are the families of the Levites according to the house of their fathers. ^3:21Of Gershon was the family of the Libnites, and the family of the Shimites: these are the families of the Gershonites. ^3:22Those that were counted of them [according to the number of all the males, from a month old and upward], even those that were counted of them were seven thousand, five hundred.) ^3:23“The families of the Gershonites shall camp behind the Tabernacle westward. ^3:24And the head of the house of the father of the Gershonites shall be Eliasaph the son of Lael. ^3:25And the responsibility of the sons of Gershon in the Tabernacle of the congregation shall be the Tabernacle and the tent: its covering, and the hanging for the door of the Tabernacle of the congregation, ^3:26and the hangings of the court, and the curtain for the door of the court (which is by the Tabernacle and by the altar round about), and the cords of it for all its service.”

^3:27(And of Kohath was the family of the Amramites, and the family of the Izeharites, and the family of the Hebronites, and the family of the Uzzielites; these are the families of the Kohathites. ^3:28In the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, were eight thousand, six hundred, keeping the charge of the Sanctuary.) ^3:29“The families of the sons of Kohath shall camp on the side of the Tabernacle southward. ^3:30And the head of the house of the father of the families of the Kohathites shall be Elizaphan the son of Uzziel. ^3:31And their responsibility shall be the Ark, the table, the candlestick, the altars, the vessels of the Sanctuary with which they minister, and the hanging, and all its service. ^3:32And Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest shall be chief over the chief of the Levites, and have the oversight of them that keep the charge of the Sanctuary.”

^3:33(Of Merari was the family of the Mahlites, and the family of the Mushites; these are the families of Merari. ^3:34And those that were counted of them [according to the number of all the males, from a month old and upward] were six thousand, two hundred.) ^3:35“And the head of the house of the father of the families of Merari shall be Zuriel the son of Abihail; these shall camp on the side of the Tabernacle northward. ^3:36And the custody and responsibility of the sons of Merari shall be the boards of the Tabernacle, its bars, its pillars, its sockets, all its vessels, and all that serve for it, ^3:37and the pillars of the court round about, and their sockets, their pins, and their cords.

^3:38But those that camp before the Tabernacle toward the east, even before the Tabernacle of the congregation eastward, shall be Moses, and Aaron and his sons, keeping the charge of the Sanctuary for the charge of the children of Israel; and the stranger that comes near shall be put to death.”

^3:39All that were counted of the Levites (which Moses and Aaron counted at the command of Jehovah, throughout their families, all the males from a month old and upward) were twenty-two thousand.

¶Opposite Jehovah took the Levites and their livestock instead of the firstborn among the children of Israel (3:40 - 51)

^3:40And Jehovah said to Moses, “Take a census of all the firstborn of the males of the children of Israel from a month old and upward; and take the number of their names. ^3:41And you shall take the Levites for me (I am Jehovah) instead of all the firstborn among the children of Israel; and the livestock of the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the livestock of the children of Israel.”

^3:46And for those that are to be redeemed of the two hundred and seventy-three of the firstborn of the children of Israel, which are more than the Levites, ^3:47you shall even take five shekels apiece by the head, after the shekel of the Sanctuary; you shall take them (the shekel is twenty gerahs). ^3:48And you shall give the money, with which the odd number of them is to be redeemed, to Aaron and to his sons.”

^3:49And Moses took the redemption money of them that were over and above them that were redeemed by the Levites ^3:50(he took the money of the firstborn of the children of Israel): one thousand, three hundred and sixty-five shekels, after the shekel of the Sanctuary. ^3:51And Moses gave the money of them that were redeemed to Aaron and to his sons, according to the Word of Jehovah, as Jehovah commanded Moses.

^4:4This shall be the service of the sons of Kohath in the Tabernacle of the congregation about the most holy things: ^4:5when the camp sets forward, Aaron and his sons shall come, and they shall take down the covering veil and cover the Ark of Testimony with it; ^4:6and shall put on it the covering of badgers' skins, and shall spread a cloth completely of blue over it, and shall put in its poles. ^4:7And they shall spread a cloth of blue upon the table of showbread, and put on it the dishes, the spoons, the bowls, and covers to cover with; and the continual bread shall be on it. ^4:8And they shall spread upon them a cloth of scarlet, and cover the same with a covering of badgers' skins, and shall put in its poles. ^4:9And they shall take a cloth of blue, and cover the candlestick of the light, and his lamps, his tongs, his snuff dishes, and all its oil vessels, with which they minister to it. ^4:10And they shall put it and all its vessels within a covering of badgers' skins, and shall put it upon a bar. ^4:11And they shall spread a cloth of blue upon the golden altar, and cover it with a covering of badgers' skins, and shall put to its poles. ^4:12And they shall take all the instruments of ministry, with which they minister in the Sanctuary, and put them in a cloth of blue, and cover them with a covering of badgers' skins, and shall put them on a bar. ^4:13And they shall take away the ashes from the altar, and spread a purple cloth on it. ^4:14And they shall put upon it all its vessels, with which they minister about it, even the censers, the flesh hooks, the shovels, and the basins: all the vessels of the altar; and they shall spread upon it a covering of badgers' skins, and put to the poles of it.

^4:15And when Aaron and his sons have made an end of covering the Sanctuary, and all the vessels of the Sanctuary (as the camp is to set forward), after that, the sons of Kohath shall come to carry it. But they shall not touch any holy thing, lest they die. These things are the responsibility of the sons of Kohath in the Tabernacle of the congregation.

^4:16And to the office of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest pertains the oil for the light, and the sweet incense, and the daily meal offering, and the anointing oil, and the oversight of all the Tabernacle, and of all that is in it: in the Sanctuary, and in its vessels.”

^4:17And Jehovah spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, ^4:18“Do not cut off the tribe of the families of the Kohathites from among the Levites. ^4:19But do this to them, that they may live, and not die, when they approach to the most holy things: Aaron and his sons shall go in, and they shall appoint every one of them to his service and to his duty. ^4:20But they shall not go in to see when the holy things are covered, lest they die.”

^4:21And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, ^4:22“Take also a census of the sons of Gershon, throughout the houses of their fathers, by their families; ^4:23you shall count them from thirty years old and upward until fifty years old; all that enter in to perform the service, to do the work in the Tabernacle of the congregation. ^4:24This is the service of the families of the Gershonites: to serve, and for burdens. ^4:25And they shall carry the curtains of the Tabernacle, and the Tabernacle of the congregation, his covering, and the covering of the badgers' skins that is above upon it, and the hanging for the door of the Tabernacle of the congregation, ^4:26and the hangings of the court, and the hanging for the door of the gate of the court, which is by the Tabernacle and by the altar round about, and their cords, and all the instruments of their service, and all that is made for them: so shall they serve. ^4:27At the appointment of Aaron and his sons shall be all the service of the sons of the Gershonites, in all their burdens, and in all their service; and you shall appoint to them in charge all their burdens. ^4:28This is the service of the families of the sons of Gershon in the Tabernacle of the congregation; and their work shall be under the supervision of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest.

^4:29As for the sons of Merari, you shall count them after their families, by the house of their fathers. ^4:30You shall count them from thirty years old and upward even to fifty years old: every one that enters into the service, to do the work of the Tabernacle of the congregation. ^4:31And this is the responsibility of their burden, according to all their service in the Tabernacle of the congregation: the boards of the Tabernacle, its bars, its pillars, and its sockets; ^4:32the pillars of the court round about, and their sockets, and their pins, and their cords, with all their instruments, and with all their service; and you shall reckon by name the instruments of the charge of their burden. ^4:33This is the service of the families of the sons of Merari, according to all their service, in the Tabernacle of the congregation, under the supervision of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest.”

^4:34And Moses and Aaron and the chief of the congregation counted the sons of the Kohathites (after their families, and after the house of their fathers, ^4:35from thirty years old and upward even to fifty years old, every one that enters into the service, for the work in the Tabernacle of the congregation). ^4:36And those that were counted of them by their families were two thousand, seven hundred and fifty. ^4:37These are they that were counted of the families of the Kohathites: all that might do service in the Tabernacle of the congregation, which Moses and Aaron counted according to the command of Jehovah by the hand of Moses. ^4:38And those that were counted of the sons of Gershon (throughout their families, and by the house of their fathers, ^4:39from thirty years old and upward even to fifty years old, every one that enters into the service, for the work in the Tabernacle of the congregation), ^4:40even those that were counted of them, throughout their families, by the house of their fathers were two thousand, six hundred and thirty. ^4:41These are they that were counted of the families of the sons of Gershon, of all that might do service in the Tabernacle of the congregation, whom Moses and Aaron counted according to the command of Jehovah. ^4:42And those that were counted of the families of the sons of Merari (throughout their families, by the house of their fathers, ^4:43from thirty years old and upward even to fifty years old, every one that enters into the service, for the work in the Tabernacle of the congregation), ^4:44even those that were counted of them after their families were three thousand, two hundred. ^4:45These are those that were counted of the families of the sons of Merari, whom Moses and Aaron counted according to the Word of Jehovah by the hand of Moses.

^4:46All those that were counted of the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron and the chief of Israel counted (after their families, and after the house of their fathers, ^4:47from thirty years old and upward even to fifty years old, everyone that came to do the service of the ministry, and the service of the burden in the Tabernacle of the congregation), ^4:48even those that were counted of them were eight thousand, five hundred and eighty.

^4:49According to the command of Jehovah, they were counted by the hand of Moses: every one according to his service, and every one according to his burden. In this manner they were counted by him, as Jehovah commanded Moses.

^4:29Contarás los hijos de Merari por sus familias, por las casas de sus padres; ^4:30desde el de edad de treinta años para arriba hasta el de cincuenta años, los contarás; todos los que entran en compañía, para servir en el Tabernáculo de la congregación. ^4:31Y éste será el deber de su cargo para todo su servicio en el Tabernáculo de la congregación: las tablas del Tabernáculo, y sus vigas, ^4:32y sus columnas, y sus bases; y las columnas del atrio alrededor, y sus bases, y sus estacas, y sus cuerdas con todos sus instrumentos, y todo su servicio; y contaréis por sus nombres todos los vasos de la guarda de su cargo. ^4:33Éste será el servicio de las familias de los hijos de Merari para todo su ministerio en el Tabernáculo de la congregación, bajo la mano de Itamar, hijo de Aarón el sacerdote”.

^4:34Moisés, pues, y Aarón, y los jefes de la congregación, contaron los hijos de Coat (por sus familias, y por las casas de sus padres, ^4:35desde el de edad de treinta años para arriba hasta el de edad de cincuenta años; todos los que entran en compañía, para ministrar en el Tabernáculo de la congregación); ^4:36y fueron los contados de ellos por sus familias, dos mil setecientos cincuenta. ^4:37Éstos fueron los contados de las familias de Coat, todos los que ministran en el Tabernáculo de la congregación, los cuales contaron Moisés y Aarón, como lo mandó Jehová por mano de Moisés. ^4:38Y los contados de los hijos de Gersón (por sus familias, y por las casas de sus padres, ^4:39desde el de edad de treinta años para arriba hasta el de edad de cincuenta años, todos los que entran en compañía, para ministrar en el Tabernáculo de la congregación), ^4:40los contados de ellos por sus familias, por las casas de sus padres, fueron dos mil seiscientos treinta. ^4:41Éstos son los contados de las familias de los hijos de Gersón, todos los que ministran en el Tabernáculo de la congregación, los cuales contaron Moisés y Aarón por mandato de Jehová. ^4:42Y los contados de las familias de los hijos de Merari (por sus familias, por las casas de sus padres, ^4:43desde el de edad de treinta años para arriba hasta el de edad de cincuenta años, todos los que entran en compañía, para ministrar en el Tabernáculo de la congregación), ^4:44los contados de ellos, por sus familias, fueron tres mil doscientos. ^4:45Éstos fueron los contados de las familias de los hijos de Merari, los cuales contaron Moisés y Aarón, según lo mandó Jehová por mano de Moisés.

^4:46Todos los contados de los levitas, que Moisés y Aarón y los jefes de Israel contaron (por sus familias, y por las casas de sus padres, ^4:47desde el de edad de treinta años para arriba hasta el de edad de cincuenta años, todos los que entraban para ministrar en el servicio, y tener cargo de obra en el Tabernáculo de la congregación), ^4:48los contados de ellos fueron ocho mil quinientos ochenta.

Único

^4:49Fueron contados conforme al mandamiento de Jehová por mano de Moisés, cada uno según su oficio y según su cargo: los cuales contó él, tal como Jehová mandó a Moisés.
