§Complement Introduction: Balak sent messengers to Balaam to hire him against Israel, but the angel of Jehovah rebuked Balaam (22:1 - 35)

Perhaps I shall prevail, that we may smite them, and that I may drive them out of the land. For I know that he whom you bless is blessed, and he whom you curse is cursed.” ^22:7And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand; and they came to Balaam, and spoke to him the words of Balak. ^22:8And he said to them, “Lodge here this night, and I will bring you word again, as Jehovah shall speak to me"; and the princes of Moab stayed with Balaam. ^22:9And God came to Balaam, and said, “What men are these with you?” ^22:10And Balaam said to God, “Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, has sent to me, saying, ^22:11‘Behold, a people has come out of Egypt, which covers the face of the earth. Come now, and curse them for me; perhaps I shall be able to overcome them, and drive them out.’” ^22:12And God said to Balaam, “You shall not go with them. You shall not curse the people: for they are blessed.” ^22:13And Balaam rose up in the morning, and said to the princes of Balak, “Go back into your land: for Jehovah refuses to give me permission to go with you.” ^22:14And the princes of Moab rose up, and they went to Balak, and said, “Balaam refuses to come with us.”

^22:15And Balak sent princes yet again: more, and more honorable than they. ^22:16And they came to Balaam, and said to him, “Thus says Balak the son of Zippor, ‘Please, let nothing hinder you from coming to me: ^22:17for I will promote you to very great honor; and I will do whatsoever you say to me; therefore come, please curse me this people.’” ^22:18And Balaam answered and said to the servants of Balak, “If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the Word of Jehovah my God, to do less or more. ^22:19Now therefore, please stay here this night also, that I may know what more Jehovah will say to me.” ^22:20And God came to Balaam at night, and said to him, “If the men come to call you, rise up, and go with them; but yet the word which I shall say to you, that shall you do.”

^22:21And Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his donkey, and went with the princes of Moab.

Now he was riding on his donkey, and his two servants were with him. ^22:23And the donkey saw the angel of Jehovah standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand; and the donkey turned aside out of the way, and went into the field; and Balaam struck the donkey, to turn her into the road. ^22:24But the angel of Jehovah stood in a path of the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side. ^22:25And when the donkey saw the angel of Jehovah, she thrust herself to the wall, and crushed Balaam's foot against the wall; and he struck her again. ^22:26And the angel of Jehovah went further, and stood in a narrow place, where there was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left. ^22:27And when the donkey saw the angel of Jehovah, she fell down under Balaam. And Balaam's anger was kindled, and he struck the donkey with a staff. ^22:28And Jehovah opened the mouth of the donkey, and she said to Balaam, “What have I done to you, that you have smitten me these three times?” ^22:29And Balaam said to the donkey, “Because you have mocked me. I wish there was a sword in my hand, for now would I kill you.” ^22:30And the donkey said to Balaam, “Am I not your donkey, upon which you have ridden ever since I was yours until this day? Was I ever accustomed to do so to you?” And he said, “No.”

^22:31Then Jehovah opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of Jehovah standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand; and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face. ^22:32And the angel of Jehovah said to him, “Why have you smitten your donkey these three times? Behold, I went out to withstand you, because your way is perverse before me; ^22:33and the donkey saw me, and turned from me these three times. Unless she had turned from me, surely now also I would have slain you, and saved her alive.” ^22:34And Balaam said to the angel of Jehovah, “I have sinned: for I did not know that you were standing in the way against me; now therefore, if it displeases you, I will go back again.”

^22:35And the angel of Jehovah said to Balaam, “Go with the men; but only the word that I shall speak to you, that shall you speak.” So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.

§Complement Body: Jehovah compelled Balaam to bless Israel in spite of the money of Balak (22:36 - 24:25)

^22:36And when Balak heard that Balaam had come, he went out to meet him to a city of Moab, which is in the border of Arnon, which is in the utmost territory of Moab. ^22:37And Balak said to Balaam, "Did I not earnestly send to you to call you? Why did you not come to me? Am I not able indeed to promote you to honor?” ^22:38And Balaam said to Balak, “See, I have come to you. Do I now have any power at all to say anything? The Word that God puts in my mouth, that shall I speak.”

^22:39And Balaam went with Balak, and they came to Kirjath-huzoth. ^22:40And Balak offered oxen and sheep, and sent to Balaam, and to the princes that were with him.

And he has blessed, and I cannot reverse it. ^23:21He has not beheld iniquity in Jacob; neither has he seen perverseness in Israel. Jehovah his God is with him, and the shout of a king is among them. ^23:22God brought them out of Egypt; he has, as it were, the strength of a wild ox. ^23:23Surely no witchcraft is effective against Jacob; neither is any divination effective against Israel. According to this time shall it be said of Jacob and of Israel, ‘What hath God wrought!’ ^23:24Behold, the people shall rise up like a great lion, and lift up himself as a young lion; he shall not lie down until he eats of the prey, and drinks the blood of the slain.”

He shall eat up the nations his enemies, and shall break their bones, and pierce them through with his arrows. ^24:9He couched; he lay down as a lion, and as a great lion. Who shall stir him up? Blessed is he that blesses you, and cursed is he that curses you.’”

¶Opposite Balaam prophecied to Balak what Israel would do to Moab in the Latter Days (24:10 - 19)

He aquí un pueblo que habitará apartado, y no será contado entre las naciones. ^23:10¿Quién contará el polvo de Jacob, o el número de la cuarta parte de Israel? ¡Muera mi persona de la muerte de los rectos, y mi postrimería sea como la suya!”.

Como ahora, será dicho de Jacob y de Israel, ‘¡Lo que ha hecho Dios!’ ^23:24He aquí el pueblo, que como león se levantará, y como león se erguirá; no se echará hasta que coma la presa, y beba la sangre de los muertos’”.

Benditos los que te bendijeren, y malditos los que te maldijeren’”.
