Daniel & Zechariah, Chapter 1.1 (Daniel): The coming of the Kingdom was predicted by Nebuchadnezzar’s dream of the great statue (1:1 - 3:30)

^1:3And the king spoke to Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king's seed, and of the princes: ^1:4children in whom were no blemish, but handsome; and skillful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science; and such as had ability in them to stand in the king's palace; and whom they might teach the learning and the language of the Chaldeans.

^1:5And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king's food, and of the wine which he drank; so nourishing them three years, that at the end of it they might stand before the king.

^1:6Now among these were some of the children of Judah: Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah;

^1:7to whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave to Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abed-nego.

^1:8But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's food, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

^1:9Now God had brought Daniel into favor and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs. ^1:10And the prince of the eunuchs said to Daniel, “I fear my lord the king, who has appointed your food and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse looking than the children which are of your sort? Then shall you make me endanger my head to the king.” ^1:11Then Daniel said to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, ^1:12“Please, test your servants ten days; and let them give us vegetables to eat, and water to drink. ^1:13Then let our countenances be looked upon before you, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king's food; and as you see, deal with your servants.”

^1:14So he agreed to them in this matter; and he tested them ten days. ^1:15And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared better and fatter in flesh than all the children which ate the portion of the king's food. ^1:16Thus Melzar took away the portion of their food, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them vegetables. ^1:17As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom; and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

^1:18Now at the end of the days that the king had said he would bring them in, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar. ^1:19And the king communed with them; and among them all was found no one like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah; therefore they stood before the king. ^1:20And in all matters of wisdom and understanding that the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.

^1:21And Daniel continued until the first year of king Cyrus.

^2:2Then the king commanded to call the magicians, the astrologers, the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, in order to show the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the king. ^2:3And the king said to them, “I have dreamed a dream, and my spirit was troubled to know the dream.”

^2:4Then the Chaldeans spoke to the king in Aramaic, “O king, live forever; tell your servants the dream, and we will show the interpretation.” ^2:5The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, “The thing has gone from me. If you will not make known to me the dream, with its interpretation, you shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill. ^2:6But if you show the dream, and its interpretation, you shall receive of me gifts and rewards and great honor; therefore show me the dream, and its interpretation.”

^2:7They answered again and said, “Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will show its interpretation.” ^2:8The king answered and said, “I know certainly that you would gain the time, because you see the thing has gone from me. ^2:9But if you will not make known to me the dream, there is but one decree for you: for you have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, until the time has changed; therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that you can show me its interpretation.”

^2:10The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, “There is not a man upon the earth that can show the king's matter; therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things of any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean. ^2:11And it is a rare thing that the king requires, and there is no other that can show it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.” ^2:12Therefore the king was very angry and furious; and he commanded to destroy all the wise men of Babylon. ^2:13And the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain; and they searched for Daniel and his companions to be slain.

^2:14Then Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch the captain of the king's guard, which had gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon: ^2:15he answered and said to Arioch the king's captain, “Why is the decree so hasty from the king?” Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel.

^2:16Then Daniel went in; and he asked of the king that he would give him time, and that he would show the king the interpretation.

^2:17Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions; ^2:18that they would desire mercies of the God of Heaven concerning this secret, so that Daniel and his companions would not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.

^2:19Then the secret was revealed to Daniel in a night vision.

Then Daniel blessed the God of Heaven: ^2:20Daniel answered and said, “Blessed is the Name of God forever and ever: for wisdom and might are his; ^2:21and he changes the times and the seasons; he removes kings, and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding; ^2:22he reveals the deep and secret things; he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him. ^2:23I thank you and praise you, O you God of my fathers, who have given me wisdom and might, and have made known to me now what we asked of you: for now you have made known to us the king's matter.”

¶Complement   Daniel went to the king with the dream and the interpretation from Jehovah (2:24 - 30)

^2:24Therefore Daniel went in to Arioch, whom the king had ordained to destroy the wise men of Babylon; he went and said this to him: “Destroy not the wise men of Babylon; bring me in before the king, and I will show to the king the interpretation.”

^2:25Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste and said thus to him, “I have found a man of the captives of Judah, that will make known to the king the interpretation.”

^2:26The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, “Are you able to make known to me the dream which I have seen, and its interpretation?” ^2:27Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, “The secret which the king has demanded, the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, and the soothsayers, cannot show to the king; ^2:28but there is a God in Heaven that reveals secrets, and makes known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the Latter Days.

Your dream, and the visions of your head upon your bed, are these: ^2:29as for you, O king, your thoughts came into your mind upon your bed, what should come to pass hereafter; and he that reveals secrets is making known to you what shall come to pass.

^2:30But as for me, this secret was not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any other living man, but for their sakes that shall make known the interpretation to the king, and that you might know the thoughts of your heart.

¶Opposite   Daniel gave the dream and the interpretation to the king Nebuchadnezzar (2:31 - 45)

^2:31You, O king, saw, and behold a great statue. This great statue, whose brightness was excellent, stood before you; and its form was dreadful. ^2:32This statue's head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of bronze, ^2:33his legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay. ^2:34You saw until that a Stone was cut out without hands, which smote the statue upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and broke them to pieces. ^2:35Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold, were broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, so that no place was found for them. And the Stone that smote the statue became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth. ^2:36This is the dream; and we will tell its interpretation before the king.

^2:37You, O king, are a king of kings: for the God of Heaven has given you a kingdom, power, strength, and glory. ^2:38And wherever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the birds of the heaven has he given into your hand, and has made you ruler over them all. You are this head of gold.

^2:39And after you shall arise another kingdom inferior to you; and another third kingdom of bronze, which shall bear rule over all the earth. ^2:40And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaks in pieces and subdues all things; and as iron that breaks all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise. ^2:41And whereas you saw the feet and toes, part of potters' clay and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as you saw the iron mixed with miry clay. ^2:42And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. ^2:43And whereas you saw iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men; but they shall not cling one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.

^2:44And in the days of these kings shall the God of Heaven set up a Kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the Kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever.

^2:45Forasmuch as you saw that the Stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold, the great God has made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter; and the dream is certain, and its interpretation sure.”

¶Opposite   Nebuchadnezzar rewarded Daniel with great gifts and political authority (2:46 - 49)

^2:46Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face, and worshipped Daniel; and he commanded that they should offer an offering and incense to him.

^2:47The king answered to Daniel, and said, “Truly, your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing you could reveal this secret.”

^2:48Then the king made Daniel a great man; and gave him many great gifts.

And he made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon.

^2:49Then Daniel requested of the king; and he set Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, over the affairs of the province of Babylon. But Daniel sat in the gate of the king.

^3:2Then Nebuchadnezzar the king sent to gather together the princes, the governors, the captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counselors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the statue which Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up. ^3:3Then the princes, the governors, and captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counselors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, were gathered together to the dedication of the statue that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up; and they stood before the statue that Nebuchadnezzar had set up. ^3:4Then a herald cried aloud, “To you it is commanded, O people, nations, and languages, ^3:5that when you hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of music, you fall down and worship the golden statue that Nebuchadnezzar the king has set up; ^3:6and whoso does not fall down and worship shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace!” ^3:7Therefore at that time, when all the people heard the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and all kinds of music, all the people, the nations, and the languages, fell down and worshipped the golden statue that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.

^3:8Therefore at that time certain Chaldeans came near, and accused the Jews. ^3:9They spoke and said to the king Nebuchad-nezzar, “O king, live forever. ^3:10You, O king, have made a decree, that every man that shall hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of music, shall fall down and worship the golden statue; ^3:11and whoso does not fall down and worship, that he should be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. ^3:12There are certain Jews whom you have set over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. These men, O king, have disrespected you. They do not serve your gods, nor worship the golden statue which you have set up.”

^3:13Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. Then they brought these men before the king. ^3:14Nebuchadnezzar spoke and said to them, “Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, do you not serve my gods, nor worship the golden statue which I have set up? ^3:15Now if you are ready that when you hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of music, you fall down and worship the statue which I have made, good; but if you do not worship, you shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. And who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands?” ^3:16Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. ^3:17If it is so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. ^3:18But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods, nor worship the golden statue which you have set up.”

^3:19Then Nebuchadnezzar was full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego; therefore he spoke, and commanded that they should heat the furnace seventeen times more than it was accustomed to be heated. ^3:20And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace. ^3:21Then these men were bound in their mantles, their tunics, their cloaks, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. ^3:22Therefore because the king's commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceedingly hot, the flame of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. ^3:23And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.

¶Complement   Nebuchadnezzar praised the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, because He delivered them from the fiery furnace (3:24 - 30)

^3:24Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was amazed. And he rose up in haste, and spoke, and said to his counselors, “Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire?” They answered and said to the king, “True, O king.” ^3:25He answered and said, “Look, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no harm; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God!”

^3:26Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace; and he spoke and said, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, you servants of the most high God, come forth, and come here!” Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego came forth from the midst of the fire. ^3:27And the princes, governors, captains, and the king's counselors, being gathered together, saw these men; upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was a hair of their head singed; neither were their mantles changed, nor had the smell of fire passed on them.

^3:28Nebuchadnezzar spoke, and said, “Blessed is the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego; who has sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him!

And they have changed the king's word; and they yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God!

^3:29Therefore I make a decree: that every people, nation, and language, which speaks anything amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill; because there is no other God that can deliver after this manner.” ^3:30Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego in the province of Babylon.

^2:7Respondieron la segunda vez, y dijeron, “Diga el rey el sueño a sus siervos, y mostraremos su interpretación”. ^2:8El rey respondió, y dijo, “Yo conozco ciertamente que ustedes ponéis dilaciones: porque veis que el asunto se me ha ido. ^2:9Si no me mostráis el sueño, una sola sentencia será de ustedes. Ciertamente preparáis respuesta mentirosa y perversa que decir delante de mí, entre tanto que se pasa el tiempo; por tanto decidme el sueño, para que yo entienda que me podéis mostrar su interpretación”.

^2:10Los caldeos respondieron delante del rey, y dijeron, “No hay hombre sobre la tierra que pueda declarar el asunto del rey; pues ningún rey, príncipe, o señor, preguntó cosa semejante a ningún mago, ni astrólogo, ni Caldeo. ^2:11Finalmente, el asunto que el rey demanda, es singular, ni hay quien lo pueda declarar delante del rey, salvo los dioses cuya morada no es con la carne”. ^2:12Por esta causa el rey se enojó, y enfurecido, mandó que matasen a todos los sabios de Babilonia. ^2:13Y se publicó el decreto, de que los sabios fueran llevados a la muerte; y buscaron a Daniel y a sus compañeros para matarlos.

¶El complemento   Daniel fue al Dios del Cielo para pedirle comprensión sobre el sueño del rey y su interpretación (2:14 - 23)

^2:14Entonces Daniel habló avisada y prudentemente a Arioc, capitán de la guardia del rey, que había salido para matar a los sabios de Babilonia. ^2:15Habló y dijo a Arioc capitán del rey, “¿Cuál es la causa por la que este decreto se publique de parte del rey tan apresuradamente?”. Entonces Arioc declaró el asunto a Daniel.

^2:16Y Daniel entró, y pidió al rey que le diese tiempo, y que él mostraría al rey la interpretación.

^2:17Se fue luego Daniel a su casa, y declaró el asunto a Ananías, Misael, y Azarías, sus compañeros, ^2:18para que pidiesen misericordias del Dios del Cielo sobre este misterio, y que Daniel y sus compañeros no pereciesen con los otros sabios de Babilonia.

^2:19Entonces el secreto fue revelado a Daniel en visión de noche.

Entonces bendijo Daniel al Dios del Cielo: ^2:20y Daniel habló, y dijo, “Sea bendito el Nombre de Dios desde la eternidad hasta la eternidad: porque suyos son la sabiduría y el poder. ^2:21Y él cambia los tiempos y las sazones; quita reyes, y pone reyes; da la sabiduría a los sabios, y la ciencia a los entendidos. ^2:22Él revela lo profundo y lo escondido; conoce lo que está en tinieblas, y la luz mora con él. ^2:23A ti, oh Dios de mis padres, te doy gracias y te alabo, que me diste sabiduría y fortaleza, y ahora me enseñaste lo que te pedimos; pues nos has enseñado el asunto del rey”.

¶El complemento   Daniel fue al rey con el sueño y la interpretación desde Jehová (2:24 - 30)

^2:24Después de esto Daniel entró a Arioc, al cual el rey había puesto para matar a los sabios de Babilonia; fue, y le dijo así, “No mates a los sabios de Babilonia; llévame delante del rey, que yo mostraré al rey la interpretación”.

^2:25Entonces Arioc llevó prestamente a Daniel delante del rey, y le dijo así, “He hallado a un varón de los cautivos de Judá, el cual declarará al rey la interpretación”.

^2:26Respondió el rey, y dijo a Daniel, al cual llamaban Beltsasar, “¿Podrás tú hacerme entender el sueño que vi, y su interpretación?”. ^2:27Daniel respondió delante del rey, y dijo, “El misterio que el rey demanda, ni sabios, ni astrólogos, ni magos, ni adivinos lo pueden enseñar al rey. ^2:28Pero hay un Dios en el Cielo, el cual revela los misterios, y él ha hecho saber al rey Nabucodonosor lo que ha de acontecer en los Postreros Días.

Tu sueño, y las visiones de tu cabeza sobre tu cama, es esto: ^2:29estando tú, oh rey, en tu cama subieron tus pensamientos por saber lo que había de suceder en lo por venir; y el que revela los misterios te mostró lo que ha de suceder.

^2:30Y a mí me ha sido revelado este misterio, no porque en mí haya más sabiduría que en todos los vivientes, sino por aquellos que debían de hacer saber al rey la interpretación, y para que tú entendieses los pensamientos de tu corazón.

¶Lo opuesto   Daniel le dio el sueño y la interpretación al rey Nabucodonosor (2:31 - 45)

^2:31Tú, oh rey, veías, y he aquí una gran imagen. Esta imagen, que era muy grande, y cuya gloria era muy sublime, estaba en pie delante de ti, y su aspecto era terrible. ^2:32La cabeza de esta imagen era de oro fino; su pecho y sus brazos, de plata; su vientre y sus muslos, de bronce; ^2:33sus piernas de hierro; sus pies, en parte de hierro, y en parte de barro cocido. ^2:34Estabas mirando, hasta que una piedra fue cortada, no con mano, la cual hirió a la imagen en sus pies de hierro y de barro cocido, y los desmenuzó. ^2:35Entonces fue también desmenuzado el hierro, el barro cocido, el bronce, la plata y el oro, y se tornaron como tamo de las eras del verano; y los levantó el viento, y nunca más se les halló lugar. Pero la piedra que hirió a la imagen, vino a ser una gran montaña, que llenó toda la tierra. ^2:36Éste es el sueño; también la interpretación de él diremos en presencia del rey.

^2:37Tú, oh rey, eres rey de reyes: porque el Dios del Cielo te ha dado reino, poder, fortaleza y majestad. ^2:38Y todo lo que habitan los hijos de los hombres, bestias del campo y aves del cielo, él los ha entregado en tu mano, y te ha dado dominio sobre todo; tú eres aquella cabeza de oro.

^2:39Y después de ti se levantará otro reino menor que tú; y otro tercer reino de bronce, el cual dominará sobre toda la tierra. ^2:40Y el cuarto reino será fuerte como hierro; y como el hierro desmenuza y pulveriza todas las cosas, y como el hierro que quebranta todas estas cosas, desmenuzará y quebrantará. ^2:41Y lo que viste de los pies y los dedos, en parte de barro cocido de alfarero, y en parte de hierro, el reino será dividido; pero habrá en él algo de fortaleza de hierro, según que viste el hierro mezclado con el barro cocido. ^2:42Y por ser los dedos de los pies en parte de hierro, y en parte de barro cocido, en parte será el reino fuerte, y en parte será frágil. ^2:43En cuanto a lo que viste, el hierro mezclado con el barro, se mezclarán por medio de simiente humana, pero no se unirán el uno con el otro, como el hierro no se mezcla con el barro.

^2:44Y en los días de estos reyes, el Dios del Cielo levantará un reino que jamás será destruido; y este reino no será dejado a otro pueblo; desmenuzará y consumirá a todos estos reinos, y ello permanecerá para siempre.

^2:45De la manera que viste que del monte fue cortada una piedra, no con manos, la cual desmenuzó al hierro, al bronce, al barro, a la plata, y al oro; el gran Dios ha mostrado al rey lo que ha de acontecer en lo por venir; y el sueño es verdadero, y fiel su interpretación”.

¶Lo opuesto   Nabucodonosor recompensó a Daniel con grandes dones y autoridad política (2:46 - 49)

^2:46Entonces el rey Nabucodonosor cayó sobre su rostro, y se humilló ante Daniel, y mandó que le ofreciesen presentes y perfumes.

^2:47El rey habló a Daniel, y dijo, “Ciertamente que el Dios vuestro es Dios de dioses, y Señor de los reyes, y el que revela los misterios, pues pudiste revelar este misterio”.

^2:48Entonces el rey engrandeció a Daniel, y le dio muchos y grandes dones.

Y lo puso por gobernador de toda la provincia de Babilonia, y por príncipe de los gobernadores sobre todos los sabios de Babilonia.

^2:49Y Daniel solicitó del rey, y él puso sobre los negocios de la provincia de Babilonia a Sadrac, Mesac, y Abed-nego. Pero Daniel estaba a la puerta del rey.

§Único   Conclusión: Sadrac, Mesac y Abed-nego se negaron a adorar la estatua dorada, y Nabucodonosor alabó al Dios de ellos (3:1 - 30)

¶El complemento   Los tres amigos de Daniel se negaron a adorar la estatua dorada del rey Nabucodonosor (3:1 - 23)

^3:1El rey Nabucodonosor hizo una estatua de oro, la altura de la cual era de sesenta codos, su anchura de seis codos; la levantó en el campo de Dura, en la provincia de Babilonia.

^3:2Y envió el rey Nabucodonosor a juntar los grandes, los asistentes y capitanes, oidores, receptores, los del consejo, presidentes, y a todos los gobernadores de las provincias, para que viniesen a la dedicación de la estatua que el rey Nabucodonosor había levantado. ^3:3Fueron, pues, reunidos los príncipes, los asistentes y capitanes, los jueces, los tesoreros, los consejeros, los magistrados y todos los gobernadores de las provincias, a la dedicación de la estatua que el rey Nabucodonosor había levantado; y estaban en pie delante de la estatua que había levantado el rey Nabucodonosor. ^3:4Y el pregonero anunciaba en alta voz, “¡Se ordena a ustedes, oh pueblos, naciones, y lenguas, ^3:5que al oír el son de la bocina, de la flauta, del tamboril, del arpa, del salterio, de la zampoña, y de todo instrumento de música, os postréis y adoréis la estatua de oro que el rey Nabucodonosor ha levantado; ^3:6y cualquiera que no se postre y adore, en la misma hora será echado dentro de un horno de fuego ardiendo!”. ^3:7Por lo cual, al oír todos los pueblos el son de la bocina, de la flauta, del tamboril, del arpa, del salterio, de la zampoña, y de todo instrumento de música, todos los pueblos, naciones, y lenguas, se postraron, y adoraron la estatua de oro que el rey Nabucodonosor había levantado.

^3:8Por esto en aquel tiempo algunos varones caldeos vinieron, y denunciaron a los Judíos. ^3:9Hablando y diciendo al rey Nabucodonosor, “Rey, para siempre vive. ^3:10Tú, oh rey, diste una ley que todo hombre al oír el son de la bocina, de la flauta, del tamboril, del arpa, del salterio, de la zampoña, y de todo instrumento de música, se postrase y adorase la estatua de oro; ^3:11y el que no se postrase y adorase, fuese echado dentro de un horno de fuego ardiendo. ^3:12Hay unos varones Judíos, los cuales pusiste tú sobre los negocios de la provincia de Babilonia; Sadrac, Mesac, y Abed-nego; estos varones, oh rey, no han hecho cuenta de ti; no adoran tus dioses, no adoran la estatua de oro que tú levantaste”.

^3:13Entonces Nabucodonosor con ira y con enojo mandó que trajesen a Sadrac, Mesac, y Abed-nego. Y al punto fueron traídos estos varones delante del rey. ^3:14Habló Nabucodonosor, y les dijo, “¿Es verdad Sadrac, Mesac, y Abed-nego, que ustedes no honráis a mis dioses, ni adoráis la estatua de oro que he levantado? ^3:15Ahora, pues, ¿estáis dispuestos para que al oír el son de la bocina, de la flauta, del tamboril, del arpa, del salterio, de la zampoña, y de todo instrumento de música, os postréis, y adoréis la estatua que he hecho? Porque si no la adorareis, en la misma hora seréis echados en medio de un horno de fuego ardiendo; ¿y quién será el Dios que os pueda librar de mis manos?”. ^3:16Sadrac, Mesac, y Abed-nego respondieron y dijeron al rey Nabucodonosor, “No tenemos necesidad de responderte sobre este asunto. ^3:17He aquí nuestro Dios a quien servimos, puede librarnos del horno de fuego ardiendo; y de tu mano, oh rey, nos librará. ^3:18Y si no, sepas, oh rey, que no serviremos a tus dioses, ni tampoco adoraremos la estatua de oro que has levantado”.

^3:19Entonces Nabucodonosor se llenó de ira, y se demudó el aspecto de su rostro contra Sadrac, Mesac, y Abed-nego; por lo cual habló, y ordenó que el horno se calentase siete veces más de lo que solían calentarlo. ^3:20Y mandó a hombres muy vigorosos que tenía en su ejército, que atasen a Sadrac, Mesac, y Abed-nego, para echarlos en el horno de fuego ardiendo. ^3:21Entonces estos varones fueron atados con sus mantos, y sus calzas, y sus mitras, y sus demás vestiduras, y fueron echados dentro del horno de fuego ardiendo. ^3:22Y porque la orden del rey era apremiante, y habían calentado mucho el horno, la llama del fuego mató a aquellos que habían alzado a Sadrac, Mesac, y Abed-nego. ^3:23Y estos tres varones, Sadrac, Mesac, y Abed-nego, cayeron atados dentro del horno de fuego ardiendo.

¶El complemento   Nabucodonosor elogió al dios de Sadrac, Mesac y Abed-nego, porque los libró del horno de fuego (3:24 - 30)

^3:24Entonces el rey Nabucodonosor se espantó, y se levantó de prisa, y habló, y dijo a los de su consejo, “¿No echaron tres varones atados dentro del fuego?”. Respondieron y dijeron al rey, “Es verdad, oh rey”. ^3:25Respondió él y dijo, “¡He aquí yo veo cuatro varones sueltos, que se pasean en medio del fuego, y ningún daño hay en ellos; y el parecer del cuarto es semejante al Hijo de Dios!”.

^3:26Entonces Nabucodonosor se acercó a la puerta del horno de fuego ardiendo, y habló y dijo, “¡Sadrac, Mesac, y Abed-nego, siervos del Dios Altísimo, salid y venid!”. Entonces Sadrac, Mesac, y Abed-nego salieron de en medio del fuego. ^3:27Y se juntaron los grandes, los gobernadores, los capitanes, y los del consejo del rey, para mirar estos varones, cómo el fuego no se enseñoreó de sus cuerpos, ni cabello de sus cabezas fue quemado, ni sus ropas se mudaron, ni olor de fuego había pasado por ellos.

^3:28Nabucodonosor habló y dijo, “Bendito el Dios de ellos, de Sadrac, Mesac, y Abed-nego, que envió su Ángel, y libró sus siervos que esperaron en él;

y el mandamiento del rey mudaron, y entregaron sus cuerpos antes que servir o adorar a otro dios que su Dios.

^3:29Por tanto, yo decreto que todo pueblo, nación, o lengua, que dijere blasfemia contra el Dios de Sadrac, Mesac y Abed-nego, sea descuartizado, y su casa sea puesta por muladar; por cuanto no hay otro Dios que pueda librar como éste”. ^3:30Entonces el rey engrandeció a Sadrac, Mesac, y Abed-nego en la provincia de Babilonia.
