Daniel & Zechariah, Chapter 2.1 (Zechariah): The coming of the King of Zion was foreshadowed by the restoration of Jerusalem by Persia (1:1 - 8:20)

Introduction: Jehovah called his people to return to Him, and the land of Israel was empty and barren (1:1 - 11)

¶Opposite   Jehovah called the Jews to return to Him, and then He would return to them (1:1 - 6)

¶Opposite   The land of Israel was empty and ready to be reoccupied by the Jews (1:7 - 11)

Body: After the Jews spent 70 years in exile, Jehovah has returned to Jerusalem with mercies, and his Temple shall be rebuilt (1:12 - 17)

¶Opposite   The angel of Jehovah asked Jehovah how long He would not have mercy on Jerusalem (1:12 - 13)

¶Opposite   Jehovah was jealous for Jerusalem and displeased with the heathen (1:14 - 15)

¶Complement   Jehovah has returned to Jerusalem with mercies (1:16a)

¶Complement   The House of Jehovah would be rebuilt in Jerusalem (1:16b)

¶Unique   Jehovah shall yet comfort Zion, and shall yet choose Jerusalem (1:17)

Conclusion: In the Millennial Kingdom, Jehovah will rebuild Jerusalem, and He will dwell in the midst of it (1:18 - 2:13)

¶Complement   Jehovah has determined to rebuild Jerusalem and make it prosperous (1:18 - 2:5)

¶Complement   Jehovah has determined to come and dwell in the midst of Zion (2:6 - 13)

§Complement   Introduction: Jehovah called his people to return to Him, and the land of Israel was empty and barren (1:1 - 11)

^1:1In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, the Word of Jehovah came to Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the Prophet, saying, ^1:2“Jehovah has been very displeased with your fathers.

^1:3Therefore say to them, ‘Thus says Jehovah of hosts: ‘Turn to me,’ says Jehovah of hosts, ‘and I will turn to you,’ says Jehovah of hosts.

^1:4‘Be not as your fathers, to whom the former Prophets have cried, saying, ‘Thus says Jehovah of hosts: ‘Turn now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings’’; but they did not listen or pay attention to me,’ says Jehovah.

^1:5‘Your fathers, where are they? And the Prophets, do they live forever? ^1:6But my words and my Statutes, which I commanded my servants the Prophets, did they not take hold of your fathers?’”

And they returned and said, “Like as Jehovah of hosts thought to do to us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, so has he dealt with us.”

¶Opposite   The land of Israel was empty and ready to be reoccupied by the Jews (1:7 - 11)

^1:7Upon the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Sebat, in the second year of Darius, the Word of Jehovah came to Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the Prophet, saying, ^1:8“I saw by night; and behold a man riding upon a red horse; and he stood among the myrtle trees that were in the bottom;

and behind him there were red horses, speckled, and white.”

^1:9Then I said, “O my lord, what are these?” And the angel that talked with me said to me, “I will show you what these are.”

^1:10And the man that stood among the myrtle trees answered and said, “These are they whom Jehovah has sent to walk to and fro through the earth.”

^1:11And they answered the angel of Jehovah that stood among the myrtle trees, and said, “We have walked to and fro through the earth; and, behold, all the earth sits still, and is at rest.”

§Complement   Body: After the Jews spent 70 years in exile, Jehovah has returned to Jerusalem with mercies, and his Temple shall be rebuilt (1:12 - 17)

^1:12Then the angel of Jehovah answered and said, “O Jehovah of hosts, how long will you not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which you have had indignation these seventy years?” ^1:13And Jehovah answered the angel that talked with me with good words and comforting words.

^1:14So the angel that communed with me said to me, “Cry, saying, ‘Thus says Jehovah of hosts: ‘I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy. ^1:15And I am very displeased with the heathen that are at ease: for I was only a little displeased; and they helped forward the affliction.’

^1:16Therefore thus says Jehovah: ‘I have returned to Jerusalem with mercies.

My House shall be built in it,’ says Jehovah of hosts, ‘and a line shall be stretched forth upon Jerusalem.’’

^1:17Cry again, saying, ‘Thus says Jehovah of hosts: ‘My cities through prosperity shall yet be spread abroad. And Jehovah shall yet comfort Zion, and shall yet choose Jerusalem.’’”

§Unique   Conclusion: In the Millennial Kingdom, Jehovah will rebuild Jerusalem, and He will dwell in the midst of it (1:18 - 2:13)

^1:18Then I lifted up my eyes, and saw, and behold four horns. ^1:19And I said to the angel that talked with me, “What are these?” And he answered me, “These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.”

^1:20And Jehovah showed me four carpenters. ^1:21Then I said, “What have these come to do?” And he spoke, saying, “These are the horns which have scattered Judah, so that no man lifted up his head in pride; but these have come to frighten them, to cast out the horns of the Gentiles, which lifted up their horn over the land of Judah to scatter it.”

^2:1I lifted up my eyes again, and looked, and behold a man with a measuring line in his hand.

^2:2Then I said, “Where are you going?” And he said to me, “To measure Jerusalem, to see what is its breadth, and what is its length.”

^2:3And, behold, the angel that talked with me went forth, and another angel went out to meet him, ^2:4and said to him, “Run, speak to this young man, saying, ‘Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls for the multitude of men and cattle in it: ^2:5for I,’ says Jehovah, ‘will be to her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in her midst.

¶Complement   Jehovah has determined to come and dwell in the midst of Zion (2:6 - 13)

^2:6Up, up, come forth, and flee from the land of the north,’ says Jehovah. ‘For I have spread you abroad as the four winds of the heaven,’ says Jehovah.

^2:7‘Deliver yourself, O Zion, that dwells with the daughter of Babylon.’ ^2:8For thus says Jehovah of hosts: ‘After the glory has he sent me to the nations which plundered you: for he that touches you touches the apple of his eye: ^2:9for, behold, I will shake my hand upon them; and they shall be a plunder to their servants. And you shall know that Jehovah of hosts has sent me.

^2:10Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion: for, lo, I am coming, and I will dwell in your midst,’ says Jehovah. ^2:11‘And many nations shall be joined to Jehovah in that day, and shall be my people; and I will dwell in your midst; and you shall know that Jehovah of hosts has sent me to you.

^2:12And Jehovah shall inherit Judah his portion in the holy land, and shall choose Jerusalem again.

^2:13Be silent, O all flesh, before Jehovah: for he has risen up out of his holy habitation.’”

^1:5‘Vuestros padres, ¿dónde están? Y los Profetas, ¿han de vivir para siempre? ^1:6Pero mis palabras y mis Ordenanzas que mandé a mis siervos los Profetas, ¿no alcanzaron a vuestros padres?’”

Y ellos volvieron y dijeron, “Así como Jehová de los ejércitos pensó hacer con nosotros conforme a nuestros caminos y conforme a nuestras obras, así ha hecho con nosotros”.

^1:7El día veinticuatro del mes undécimo, que es el mes de Sebat, en el año segundo de Darío, vino Palabra de Jehová al Profeta Zacarías, hijo de Berequías, hijo de Iddo, diciendo, ^1:8 “Vi de noche; y he aquí un varón que cabalgaba sobre un caballo alazán, el cual estaba entre los mirtos que había en la hondura;

y detrás de él había caballos alazanes, overos y blancos”.

^1:9Entonces dije, “¿Qué son éstos, Señor mío?”. Y me dijo el Ángel que hablaba conmigo, “Yo te enseñaré qué son éstos”.

^1:10Y aquel varón que estaba entre los mirtos respondió, y dijo, “Éstos son los que Jehová ha enviado a recorrer la tierra”.

^1:11Y respondieron al Ángel de Jehová que estaba entre los mirtos, y dijeron, “Hemos recorrido la tierra, y he aquí toda la tierra está reposada y quieta”.

^1:12Y respondió el Ángel de Jehová, y dijo, “Oh Jehová de los ejércitos, ¿hasta cuándo no tendrás piedad de Jerusalén, y de las ciudades de Judá, con las cuales has estado indignado estos setenta años?”. ^1:13Y Jehová respondió buenas palabras, palabras consoladoras, al Ángel que hablaba conmigo.

^1:14Y me dijo el Ángel que hablaba conmigo, “Clama, diciendo, ‘Así dice Jehová de los ejércitos, ‘Celé a Jerusalén y a Sión con gran celo. ^1:15Y estoy muy indignado contra las naciones que están reposadas: porque cuando yo estaba enojado un poco, ellos ayudaron para el mal’.

^1:16Por tanto, así dice Jehová, ‘Yo me he vuelto a Jerusalén con misericordia.

Mi Casa será edificada en ella,’ dice Jehová de los ejércitos, ‘y el cordel será tendido sobre Jerusalén’’.

^1:17Clama aún, diciendo, ‘Así dice Jehová de los ejércitos, ‘Aún serán ensanchadas mis ciudades por la abundancia del bien. Y aún consolará Jehová a Sión, y escogerá todavía a Jerusalén’’”.

Y me respondió, diciendo, “Éstos son los cuernos que dispersaron a Judá, tanto que ninguno alzó su cabeza; pero éstos han venido para hacerlos temblar, para derribar los cuernos de las naciones, que alzaron el cuerno sobre la tierra de Judá para dispersarla”.

^2:1Alcé después mis ojos, y miré y he aquí un varón que tenía en su mano un cordel de medir.

^2:2Y le dije, “¿A dónde vas?”. Y él me respondió, “A medir a Jerusalén: para ver cuánta es su anchura, y cuánta su longitud”.

^2:3Y he aquí, salía aquel Ángel que hablaba conmigo, y otro ángel le salió al encuentro, ^2:4y le dijo, “Corre, habla a este joven, diciendo, ‘Sin muros será habitada Jerusalén a causa de la multitud de hombres y de ganado en medio de ella. ^2:5Porque yo,’ dice Jehová, ‘seré para ella un muro de fuego alrededor de ella, y seré la gloria en medio de ella.

¶El complemento   Jehová ha decidido venir y morar en medio de Sión (2:6 - 13)

^2:6Arriba, arriba, ven, y huyan desde la tierra del norte,’ dice Jehová, ‘pues por los cuatro vientos de los cielos os esparcí,’ dice Jehová.

^2:7‘Oh Sión, la que moras con la hija de Babilonia, escápate’. ^2:8Porque así dice Jehová de los ejércitos, ‘Después de la gloria él me ha enviado a las naciones que os despojaron: porque el que os toca, toca a la niña de su ojo: ^2:9porque he aquí yo alzo mi mano sobre ellos, y serán despojo a sus siervos, y sabréis que Jehová de los ejércitos me ha enviado.

^2:10Canta y alégrate, hija de Sión: porque he aquí vengo, y moraré en medio de ti,’ dice Jehová. ^2:11‘Y muchas naciones se unirán a Jehová en aquel día, y serán mi pueblo. Y moraré en medio de ti; y entonces conocerás que Jehová de los ejércitos me ha enviado a ti.

^2:12Y Jehová poseerá a Judá su heredad en la tierra santa, y escogerá aún a Jerusalén.

^2:13Calle toda carne delante de Jehová: porque él se ha levantado de su santa morada’”.
