^16:4“‘And as for your nativity, in the day you were born your navel was not cut; neither were you washed in water to cleanse you; you were not salted at all, nor swaddled at all.

^16:5“‘No eye pitied you, to do any of these to you, to have compassion upon you; but you were cast out in the open field, to the loathing of your person, in the day that you were born.’”

^16:6“‘And when I passed by you, and saw you polluted in your own blood, I said to you when you were in your blood, ‘Live’; yea, I said to you when you were in your blood, ‘Live.’

^16:7“‘I have caused you to multiply as the bud of the field; and you have increased and grown great, and you have come to excellent ornaments; your breasts are fashioned, and your hair is grown; whereas you were naked and bare.’”

¶Opposite   Jehovah married Israel and made it beautiful and powerful (16:8 - 14)

^16:8“‘Now when I passed by you, and looked upon you, behold, your time was the time of love; and I spread my skirt over you, and covered your nakedness.

“‘Moreover, I swore to you, and entered into a Covenant with you,’ says the Lord Jehovah; ‘and you became mine.’”

^16:9“‘Then I washed you with water; moreover, I thoroughly washed away your blood from you, and I anointed you with oil. ^16:10I clothed you also with many-colored work, and shod you with badgers' skin, and I girded you about with fine linen, and I covered you with silk. ^16:11I adorned you also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon your hands, and a chain on your neck. ^16:12And I put a jewel on your forehead, and earrings in your ears, and a beautiful crown upon your head.

^16:13“‘Thus were you adorned with gold and silver; and your clothing was of fine linen, and silk, and many-colored work; you ate fine flour, and honey, and oil; and you were exceeding beautiful, and you prospered into a kingdom.

^16:14“‘And your renown went forth among the heathen for your beauty: for it was perfect through my comeliness, which I had put upon you,’ says the Lord Jehovah.”

The like things shall not come; neither shall it be so. ^16:17You have also taken your beautiful jewels of my gold and of my silver, which I had given you, and made to yourself images of men, and committed whoredom with them, ^16:18and took your many-colored garments, and covered them; and you have set my oil and my incense before them. ^16:19My food also which I gave you, fine flour, and oil, and honey, with which I fed you, you have even set it before them for a sweet aroma; and thus it was,’ says the Lord Jehovah.

^16:20“‘Moreover you have taken your sons and your daughters, whom you have borne to me, and these have you sacrificed to them to be devoured. Is this thing of your whoredoms a small matter, ^16:21that you have slain my children, and delivered them to cause them to pass through the fire for them?

^16:22“‘And in all your abominations and your whoredoms you have not remembered the days of your youth, when you were naked and bare, and were polluted in your blood.’”

^16:23“‘And it came to pass after all your wickedness (‘Woe, woe unto you!’ says the Lord Jehovah), ^16:24that you have also built to you an eminent place, and have made you a high place for idol worship in every street. ^16:25You have built your high place at every head of the way, and have made your beauty to be abhorred, and have opened your feet to everyone that passed by, and multiplied your whoredoms. ^16:26You have also committed fornication with your neighbors the Egyptians, great of flesh; and have increased your whoredoms, to provoke me to anger. ^16:27Behold, therefore I have stretched out my hand over you, and have diminished your ordinary food, and delivered you to the will of them that hate you: the daughters of the Philistines, who are ashamed of your lewd way. ^16:28You have played the whore also with the Assyrians, because you were insatiable; moreover, you have played the whore with them, and yet could not be satisfied. ^16:29You have moreover multiplied your fornication in the land of Canaan unto Chaldea; and yet you were not satisfied with it.

^16:30“‘How degenerate is your heart,’ says the Lord Jehovah, ‘seeing you do all these things, the work of an overbearing whorish woman, ^16:31in that you build your pagan shrine in the head of every street, and make your high place in every street; and you have not been as a whore, in that you scorn payment, ^16:32but as a wife that commits adultery, who takes strangers instead of her husband! ^16:33They give money to all whores, but you give your money to all your lovers, and hire them, that they may come to you on every side for your whoredom. ^16:34And the contrary is in you from other women in your whoredoms, whereas no one follows you to commit whoredoms; and in that you give money, and no money is given to you, therefore you are contrary.’”

¶Opposite   Jehovah will judge Israel for her unfaithfulness until his fury rests (16:35 - 43)

^16:35“‘Therefore, O whore, hear the Word of Jehovah; ^16:36thus says the Lord Jehovah: ‘Because your filthiness was poured out, and your nakedness discovered through your whoredoms with your lovers, and with all the idols of your abominations, and by the blood of your children, which you gave to them, ^16:37behold, therefore I will gather all your lovers, with whom you have taken pleasure, and all them that you have loved, with all them that you have hated; I will even gather them round about against you, and will discover your nakedness to them, that they may see all your nakedness. ^16:38And I will judge you, as women that break wedlock and shed blood are judged; and I will give you blood in fury and jealousy.

^16:39“‘And I will also give you into their hand, and they shall throw down your eminent place, and shall break down your high places; they shall strip you also of your clothes, and shall take your beautiful jewels, and leave you naked and bare. ^16:40They shall also bring up a company against you, and they shall stone you with stones, and thrust you through with their swords. ^16:41And they shall burn your houses with fire, and execute judgments upon you in the sight of many women; and I will cause you to cease from playing the whore, and you also shall give no hire anymore.’”

^16:42“‘So will I make my fury toward you to rest.

“‘And my jealousy shall depart from you, and I will be quiet, and will not be angry anymore.

^16:43“‘Because you have not remembered the days of your youth, but have angered me in all these things, behold, therefore I also will repay your way upon your head,’ says the Lord Jehovah; ‘and you shall not commit this lewdness above all your abominations.’”

^16:44“‘Behold, every one that uses proverbs shall use this proverb against you, saying, ‘As the mother, so is her daughter.’

^16:45“‘You are your mother's daughter, that loathes her husband and her children.

^16:46“‘And your older sister is Samaria, she and her daughters that dwell at your left hand; and your younger sister, that dwells at your right hand, is Sodom and her daughters.

^16:47“‘Yet you have not walked after their ways, nor done after their abominations; but, as if that were a very little thing, you were corrupted more than they in all your ways.’”

^16:48“‘As I live,’ says the Lord Jehovah, ‘Sodom your sister has not done, she nor her daughters, as you have done, you and your daughters.

^16:49“‘Behold, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: pride, fullness of bread, and abundance of laziness was in her and in her daughters; neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.

^16:50“‘And they were proud, and committed abomination before me; therefore I took them away as I saw good.’”

^16:51“‘Neither has Samaria committed half of your sins, but you have multiplied your abominations more than they, and have justified your sisters in all your abominations which you have done.

^16:52“‘You also, who have judged your sisters, bear your own shame for your sins that you have committed more abominable than they. They are more righteous than you. Moreover, be ashamed also, and bear your shame, in that you have justified your sisters.’”

¶Unique   Jehovah will one day remember his Covenant with Israel and bring Sodom and Samaria with her (16:53 - 63)

^16:53“‘When I shall bring again their captivity, the captivity of Sodom and her daughters, and the captivity of Samaria and her daughters, then will I bring again the captivity of your captives in their midst, ^16:54that you may bear your own shame, and may be disgraced in all that you have done, in that you are a comfort to them.

^16:55“‘When your sisters, Sodom and her daughters, shall return to their former estate, and Samaria and her daughters shall return to their former estate, then you and your daughters shall return to your former estate. ^16:56For your sister Sodom was not mentioned by your mouth in the day of your pride, ^16:57before your wickedness was discovered, as at the time of your reproach of the daughters of Syria, and all that are round about her, the daughters of the Philistines, which despise you round about.’”

^16:58“‘You have borne your lewdness and your abominations,’ says Jehovah: ^16:59for thus says the Lord Jehovah: ‘I will even deal with you as you have done, who have despised the oath in breaking the Covenant. ^16:60Nevertheless I will remember my Covenant with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish to you an everlasting Covenant.

^16:61“‘Then you shall remember your ways, and be ashamed, when you shall receive your sisters, your older and your younger; and I will give them to you for daughters, but not by your covenant.

^16:62“‘And I will establish my Covenant with you; and you shall know that I am Jehovah, ^16:63that you may remember, and be ashamed, and never open your mouth anymore because of your shame, when I am pacified toward you for all that you have done,’ says the Lord Jehovah.”

^17:7“‘There was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers; and, behold, this vine bent her roots toward him, and shot forth her branches toward him, that he might water it by the furrows of her plantation. ^17:8It was planted in good soil by many waters, that it might bring forth branches, and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a beautiful vine.’”

^17:9“Say, ‘Thus says the Lord Jehovah: Shall it prosper? Shall he not pull up the roots thereof, and cut off the fruit thereof, so that it withers?

“‘All its sprouted leaves will wither, even without great power or many people to pluck it up by its roots.

^17:10“‘Moreover, behold, being planted, shall it prosper? Shall it not utterly wither, when the east wind touches it? It shall wither in the furrows where it grew.’”

Shall he prosper? Shall he escape that does such things? Or shall he break the covenant, and be delivered? ^17:16As I live,’ says the Lord Jehovah, ‘surely in the place where the king dwells that made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant he broke, even with him in the midst of Babylon shall he die. ^17:17Neither shall Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company make for him in the war, by casting up siege mounds, and building siege walls, to cut off many persons. ^17:18Seeing he despised the oath by breaking the covenant, when, lo, he had given his hand, and has done all these things, he shall not escape.’ ^17:19Therefore thus says the Lord Jehovah: ‘As I live, surely my oath that he has despised, and my Covenant that he has broken, even it will I repay upon his own head. ^17:20And I will spread my net upon him, and he shall be taken in my snare; and I will bring him to Babylon, and will contend with him there for his trespass that he has trespassed against me. ^17:21And all his fugitives with all his bands shall fall by the sword; and they that remain shall be scattered toward all winds; and you shall know that I Jehovah have spoken it.’”

^17:22“Thus says the Lord Jehovah: ‘I will also take of the highest branch of the high cedar, and will set it. I will crop off from the top of his young twigs a tender one, and will plant it upon a high and prominent mountain.

^17:23“On the high mountain of Israel will I plant it; and it shall bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a beautiful cedar; and under it shall dwell all birds of every wing; in the shadow of its branches shall they dwell.

^17:24“And all the trees of the field shall know that I Jehovah have brought down the high tree, exalted the low tree, dried up the green tree, and made the dry tree to flourish; I Jehovah have spoken and have done it.’”

^16:7“‘Te hice multiplicar como la hierba del campo, y creciste, y te has engrandecido, y viniste a ser adornada grandemente; tus pechos te crecieron, y tu pelo creció; pero tú estabas desnuda y descubierta’”.

^16:20“‘Además de esto, tomaste a tus hijos y a tus hijas que habías dado a luz para mí, y los sacrificaste a ellas para ser consumidos. ¿Te fueron poca cosa tus fornicaciones, ^16:21que sacrificaste a mis hijos, y los diste a ellas para que los hiciesen pasar por el fuego?

^16:22“‘Y con todas tus abominaciones y tus prostituciones no te has acordado de los días de tu juventud, cuando estabas desnuda y descubierta, cuando estabas envuelta en tu sangre’”.

^16:23“‘Y sucedió que después de toda tu maldad (‘¡Ay, ay de ti!’ dice Jehová el Señor), ^16:24te edificaste lugares altos, y te hiciste altar en todas las plazas. ^16:25En toda cabecera de camino edificaste tu altar, e hiciste abominable tu hermosura, y abriste tus piernas a cuantos pasaban, y multiplicaste tus prostituciones. ^16:26Y fornicaste con los hijos de Egipto, tus vecinos, de grandes carnes; y aumentaste tus prostituciones para enojarme. ^16:27Por tanto, he aquí que yo extendí sobre ti mi mano, y disminuí tu provisión ordinaria, y te entregué a la voluntad de las hijas de los filisteos, que te aborrecen, las cuales se avergüenzan de tu camino deshonesto. ^16:28Te prostituiste también con los Asirios: porque no estabas satisfecha; y te prostituiste con ellos y tampoco te saciaste. ^16:29Multiplicaste asimismo tu fornicación en la tierra de Canaán y de los caldeos; y tampoco con ello quedaste satisfecha.

^16:30“‘¡Cuán débil es tu corazón,’ dice Jehová el Señor, ‘habiendo hecho todas estas cosas, obras de una desvergonzada ramera, ^16:31edificando tus altares en cabeza de todo camino, y haciendo tus altares en todas las plazas! Y no fuiste semejante a ramera, en que menospreciaste la paga, ^16:32sino como mujer adúltera, que en lugar de su marido recibe a ajenos. ^16:33A todas las rameras les dan regalos; pero tú diste regalos a todos tus amantes; y les diste presentes, para que entrasen a ti de todas partes por tus prostituciones. ^16:34Y tú has sido lo contrario de las demás mujeres en tus prostituciones: porque ninguno te solicitó para prostituirse; y tú das la paga, y a ti no se te paga; tú has sido lo contrario’”.

¶Lo opuesto   Jehová juzgará a Israel por su infidelidad hasta que su furia descanse (16:35 - 43)

^16:39“‘Y te entregaré en mano de ellos; y destruirán tus lugares altos, y derribarán tus altares, y te despojarán de tus ropas, y se llevarán tus hermosas joyas, y te dejarán desnuda y descubierta. ^16:40Y harán subir contra ti una multitud, y te apedrearán, y te atravesarán con sus espadas. ^16:41Y quemarán tus casas a fuego, y harán en ti juicios a ojos de muchas mujeres; y haré que dejes de ser ramera, y ya no volverás a dar paga’”.

^16:42“‘Y daré descanso a mi ira sobre ti.

“‘Y se apartará de ti mi celo, y reposaré, y ya no me enojaré más.

^16:43“‘Por cuanto no te acordaste de los días de tu juventud, y me provocaste a ira en todo esto, por eso, he aquí yo también haré recaer tu camino sobre tu cabeza,’ dice Jehová el Señor; ‘y no cometerás esta lascivia además de todas tus abominaciones’”.

“‘Y hermana de tus hermanas eres tú, que desecharon a sus maridos y a sus hijos; vuestra madre fue hetea, y vuestro padre amorreo’”.

^16:46“‘Y tu hermana mayor es Samaria con su hijas, la cual habita a tu mano izquierda; y tu hermana menor es Sodoma con sus hijas, la cual habita a tu mano derecha.

^16:47“‘Todavía, no has seguido sus caminos, ni hiciste según sus abominaciones; antes, como si esto fuera poco y muy poco, te corrompiste más que ellas en todos tus caminos’”.

¶El complemento   Jehová destruyó Sodoma debido a su orgullo y sus abominaciones homosexuales (16:48 - 52)

^16:48“‘Como vivo yo,’ dice Jehová el Señor, ‘Sodoma tu hermana, con sus hijas, no ha hecho como hiciste tú y tus hijas.

^16:49“‘He aquí que ésta fue la maldad de Sodoma tu hermana: Soberbia, abundancia de pan, y demasiada ociosidad tuvieron ella y sus hijas; y no fortaleció la mano del pobre y del menesteroso.

^16:50“‘Y ellos estaban orgullosos, y cometieron abominación ante mi; por lo tanto, los llevé lejos como vi bien’”.

^16:51“‘Y Samaria no cometió ni la mitad de tus pecados: porque tú multiplicaste tus abominaciones más que ellas, y has justificado a tus hermanas con todas las abominaciones que hiciste.

^16:52“‘Tú también, que juzgaste a tus hermanas, lleva tu vergüenza en tus pecados que hiciste, más abominables que los de ellas. Más justas son que tú. Avergüénzate, pues, tú también, y lleva tu confusión, pues que has justificado a tus hermanas’”.

¶Único   Un día, Jehová recordará su pacto con Israel y traerá a Sodoma y Samaria con ella (16:53 - 63)

^16:53“‘Yo, pues, haré volver a sus cautivos, los cautivos de Sodoma y de sus hijas, y los cautivos de Samaria y de sus hijas, y los cautivos de tus cautiverios entre ellas, ^16:54para que tú lleves tu confusión, y te avergüences de todo lo que has hecho, siéndoles tú motivo de consuelo.

^16:55“‘Cuando tus hermanas, Sodoma con sus hijas y Samaria con sus hijas, volverán a su primer estado; tú también y tus hijas volveréis a vuestro primer estado. ^16:56Sodoma, tu hermana, no fue mencionada por tu boca en el tiempo de tus soberbias, ^16:57antes que tu maldad se descubriese, como en el tiempo del oprobio de las hijas de Siria y de todas las hijas de los filisteos alrededor, que por todos lados te desprecian’”.

^16:58“‘Has llevado sobre tu lascivia y tus abominaciones,’ dice Jehová: ^16:59porque así dice Jehová el Señor, ‘¿Haré yo contigo como tú hiciste, que menospreciaste el juramento para invalidar el Pacto? ^16:60Sin embargo yo tendré memoria de mi Pacto que concerté contigo en los días de tu juventud, y estableceré contigo un Pacto eterno.

^16:61“‘Entonces te acordarás de tus caminos y te avergonzarás, cuando recibas a tus hermanas, las mayores que tú y las menores que tú, las cuales yo te daré por hijas, pero no por tu Pacto.

^16:62“‘Y estableceré mi Pacto contigo, y sabrás que soy Jehová; ^16:63para que te acuerdes, y te avergüences, y nunca más abras la boca a causa de tu vergüenza, cuando yo hiciere expiación por todo lo que has hecho,’ dice Jehová el Señor”.

§El complemento   Conclusión: Sedequías, rey de Judá, será removido del poder; pero un día el Mesías le reemplazará en el trono de Israel (17:1 - 24)

¶El complemento   Jehová habló una parábola de dos grandes águilas (Babilonia y Egipto) y una vid (Israel) (17:1 - 10)

^17:1Y vino a mí Palabra de Jehová, diciendo, ^17:2“Hijo de hombre, propón una enigma, y relata una parábola a la casa de Israel. ^17:3Y dirás, ‘Así dice Jehová el Señor: Una gran águila, de grandes alas y de largos miembros, llena de plumas de diversos colores, vino al Líbano, y tomó el cogollo del cedro; ^17:4arrancó el más alto de sus renuevos, y lo llevó a la tierra de comerciantes, y lo puso en una ciudad de mercaderes. ^17:5Tomó también de la semilla de la tierra, y la puso en un campo bueno para sembrar, la plantó junto a aguas abundantes, la puso como un sauce. ^17:6Y creció, y se hizo una vid de mucho ramaje, baja de estatura, que sus ramas miraban al águila, y sus raíces estaban debajo de ella; así que se hizo una vid, y arrojó renuevos, y echó sarmientos.

^17:7“‘Hubo también otra gran águila, de grandes alas y de muchas plumas; y he aquí que esta vid juntó cerca de ella sus raíces, y extendió hacia ella sus ramas, para ser regada por ella por los surcos de su plantío. ^17:8En un buen campo, junto a aguas abundantes fue plantada, para que echase ramas y llevase fruto, y para que fuese vid robusta’”.

^17:9“‘Di, ‘Así dice Jehová el Señor: ¿Prosperará? ¿No él desarraigará a ello y cortar su fruto, de manera que se marchita?

“‘Todas sus hojas germinadas se marchitarán, incluso sin gran poder o mucha gente para arrancarlo por sus raíces.

^17:10“‘¿Y he aquí que estando plantada, será prosperada? ¿No se secará del todo cuando el viento solano la tocare? En los surcos de su verdor se secará’”.

¶El complemento   A pesar de la pérdida del último rey de Judá ante los babilonios, un día Jehová establecerá el Mesías como el rey final de Israel (17:11 - 24)

^17:11Y vino a mí Palabra de Jehová, diciendo, ^17:12“Di ahora a la casa rebelde, ‘¿No habéis entendido qué significan estas cosas?’

“Diles, ‘He aquí que el rey de Babilonia vino a Jerusalén, y tomó tu rey y sus príncipes, y los llevó consigo a Babilonia. ^17:13Tomó también de la simiente del reino, e hizo pacto con él, y le hizo prestar juramento; y tomó a los poderosos de la tierra, ^17:14para que el reino fuese abatido y no se levantase, sino que guardase su alianza y estuviese en ella. ^17:15Pero se rebeló contra él enviando sus embajadores a Egipto para que le diese caballos y mucha gente. ¿Será prosperado, escapará el que hace tales cosas? ¿Podrá romper el pacto y escapar? ^17:16Como vivo yo,’ dice Jehová el Señor, ‘que ciertamente morirá en medio de Babilonia, en el lugar donde habita el rey que le hizo reinar, cuyo juramento menospreció, y cuyo pacto hecho con él rompió. ^17:17Y no con grande ejército, ni con mucha compañía hará por él Faraón en la batalla, cuando funden baluarte y edifiquen bastiones para cortar muchas vidas. ^17:18Por cuanto menospreció el juramento, para invalidar el pacto cuando he aquí que había dado su mano, e hizo todas estas cosas, no escapará’. ^17:19Por tanto, así dice Jehová el Señor, ‘Vivo yo, que el juramento mío que menospreció, y mi Pacto que ha quebrantado, haré recaer sobre su cabeza. ^17:20Y extenderé sobre él mi red, y será preso en mi malla; y lo haré venir a Babilonia, y allí estaré a juicio con él, por su prevaricación con que contra mí se ha rebelado. ^17:21Y todos sus fugitivos con todos sus escuadrones caerán a espada, y los que quedaren serán esparcidos a todos los vientos; y sabréis que yo Jehová he hablado’”.

^17:22“Así dice Jehová el Señor, ‘Y yo tomaré el más alto de los renuevos de aquel alto cedro, y lo plantaré; del principal de sus renuevos cortaré un tallo, y lo plantaré sobre un monte alto y sublime.

^17:23“‘En el monte alto de Israel lo plantaré, y alzará ramas, y llevará fruto, y se hará magnífico cedro; y todas las especies de aves habitarán debajo de él, a la sombra de sus ramas habitarán.

^17:24“‘Y sabrán todos los árboles del campo que yo Jehová abatí el árbol sublime, levanté el árbol bajo, hice secar el árbol verde, e hice reverdecer el árbol seco. Yo Jehová hablé e hice’”.
