Ezekiel, Chapter 1.5: Jerusalem and the Temple will be destroyed by Jehovah (18:1 - 24:27)

Introduction: Sin leads to death; so, repent now, and live (18:1 - 32)

¶Complement   In Egypt and in the wilderness, Jehovah commanded Israel to repent of their idolatry, but they refused (20:1 - 26)

^18:1The Word of Jehovah came to me again, saying, ^18:2“What do you mean, that you use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, ‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge’? ^18:3‘As I live,’ says the Lord Jehovah, ‘you shall not have occasion anymore to use this proverb in Israel.

^18:4“‘Behold, all souls are mine. As the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine.

“‘The soul that practices sin, it shall die.’”

^18:5“‘But if a man is just, and does that which is lawful and right, ^18:6and has not eaten at the high places upon the mountains; neither has lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel; neither has defiled his neighbor's wife; neither has come near to a menstruous woman, ^18:7and has not oppressed any, but has restored to the debtor his pledge, has plundered no one by violence, has given his bread to the hungry, and has covered the naked with a garment; ^18:8he has not given forth upon usury; neither has taken any increase; has withdrawn his hand from iniquity, has executed true judgment between man and man, ^18:9has walked in my Statutes, and has kept my Judgments, to deal truly: he is just; he shall surely live,’ says the Lord Jehovah.

^18:10“‘Now if he begets a son that is a robber, a shedder of blood, and that does like any one of these things, ^18:11and that does not do any of those duties, but even has eaten upon the mountains, and defiled his neighbor's wife, ^18:12has oppressed the poor and needy, has plundered by violence, has not restored the pledge, and has lifted up his eyes to the idols, has committed abomination, ^18:13has given forth upon usury, and has taken increase: shall he then live? He shall not live; he has done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him.’”

¶Opposite   Repent, and turn away from your transgressions, so iniquity shall not be your ruin (18:14 - 32)

^18:14“‘Now consider, if he begets a son, that sees all his father's sins which he has done; and he considers, and does not do such like, ^18:15that has not eaten upon the mountains; neither has lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, has not defiled his neighbor's wife; ^18:16neither has oppressed any, has not withheld the pledge; neither has plundered by violence; but has given his bread to the hungry, and has covered the naked with a garment, ^18:17that has taken off his hand from the poor, that has not received usury nor increase, has executed my Judgments, and has walked in my Statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live.

^18:18“‘As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, plundered his brother by violence, and did that which is not good among his people, lo, even he shall die in his iniquity.’”

^18:19“‘Yet you say, ‘Why? Does not the son bear the iniquity of the father?’ When the son has done that which is lawful and right, and has kept all my Statutes, and has done them, he shall surely live. ^18:20The soul that sins, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father; neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son; the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him. ^18:21But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he has committed, and keep all my Statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die. ^18:22All his transgressions that he has committed, they shall not be mentioned to him. In his righteous works that he has done he shall live.

^18:23“‘Do I have any pleasure at all that the wicked should die?’ says the Lord Jehovah; ‘and not that he should return from his evil ways, and live? ^18:24But when the righteous turns away from his righteous works, and practices iniquity, and does according to all the abominations that the wicked man does, shall he live? All his righteous works that he has done shall not be mentioned; in his trespass that he has trespassed, and in his sin that he has sinned, in them shall he die.

^18:25“‘Yet you say, ‘The way of the Lord is not equal.’ Hear now, O house of Israel: is not my way equal? Are not your ways unequal? ^18:26When a righteous man turns away from his righteous works, and practices iniquity, and dies in them: for his iniquity that he has done shall he die. ^18:27Again, when the wicked man turns away from his wickedness that he has committed, and does that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive. ^18:28Because he considers, and turns away from all his transgressions that he has committed, he shall surely live; he shall not die. ^18:29Yet the house of Israel says, ‘The way of the Lord is not equal.’ O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? Are not your ways unequal? ^18:30Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways,’ says the Lord Jehovah. ‘Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions, so iniquity shall not be your ruin. ^18:31Cast away from you all your transgressions, by which you have transgressed, and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will you die, O house of Israel? ^18:32For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dies,’ says the Lord Jehovah; ‘therefore turn, and live.’”

^19:5“‘Now when she saw that she had waited, and her hope was lost, then she took another of her cubs, and made him a young lion. ^19:6And he went up and down among the lions, he became a young lion, and learned to catch the prey, and devoured men. ^19:7And he knew their desolate palaces, and he laid waste their cities; and the land was desolate, and everything in it, by the noise of his roaring. ^19:8Then the nations set against him on every side from the provinces, and spread their net over him; he was taken in their pit. ^19:9And they put him in custody in chains, and brought him to the king of Babylon. They brought him into holds, so that his voice would not be heard anymore upon the mountains of Israel.’”

^19:10“‘Your mother is like a vine in your blood, planted by the water; she was fruitful and full of branches by reason of many waters. ^19:11And she had strong rods for the scepters of them that ruled; and her stature was exalted among the thick branches, and she appeared in her height with the multitude of her branches.

^19:12“‘But she was plucked up in fury, she was cast down to the ground, and the east wind dried up her fruit. Her strong rods were broken and withered; the fire consumed them. ^19:13And now she is planted in the wilderness, in a dry and thirsty ground. ^19:14And fire has gone out of a rod of her branches, which has devoured her fruit, so that she has no strong rod to be a scepter to rule.

“‘This is a lamentation, and shall be for a lamentation.’”

¶Complement   In Egypt and in the wilderness, Jehovah commanded Israel to repent of their idolatry, but they refused (20:1 - 26)

^20:1And it came to pass in the seventh year, in the fifth month, the tenth day of the month, that certain of the elders of Israel came to inquire of Jehovah, and sat before me. ^20:2Then the Word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ^20:3“Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel, and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord Jehovah: ‘Have you come to inquire of me? As I live,’ says the Lord Jehovah, ‘I will not be inquired of by you.’’

^20:4“Will you judge them, son of man, will you judge them? Cause them to know the abominations of their fathers. ^20:5And say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord Jehovah: In the day when I chose Israel, and lifted up my hand to the seed of the house of Jacob, and made myself known to them in the land of Egypt, when I lifted up my hand to them, saying, ‘I am Jehovah your God’; ^20:6in the day that I lifted up my hand to them, to bring them forth of the land of Egypt into a land that I had searched out for them, flowing with milk and honey (which is the glory of all lands), ^20:7then I said to them, ‘Cast away every man the abominations of his eyes; and do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt; I am Jehovah your God.’ ^20:8But they rebelled against me, and would not listen to me; they did not every man cast away the abominations of their eyes; neither did they forsake the idols of Egypt. Then I said, ‘I will pour out my fury upon them to accomplish my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.’

^20:9“‘But I wrought for my Name's sake, so that it would not be polluted before the heathen, among whom they were, in whose sight I made myself known to them, in bringing them forth out of the land of Egypt. ^20:10Therefore I caused them to go forth out of the land of Egypt, and brought them into the wilderness. ^20:11And I gave them my Statutes, and showed them my Judgments, which if a man does, he shall even live in them. ^20:12Moreover also I gave them my Sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am Jehovah that sanctifies them. ^20:13But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness: they did not walk in my Statutes, and they despised my Judgments, which if a man does, he shall even live in them; and my Sabbaths they greatly polluted. Then I said, ‘I would pour out my fury upon them in the wilderness, to consume them.’ ^20:14But I wrought for my Name's sake, so that it would not be polluted before the heathen, in whose sight I brought them out.’”

^20:15“‘Yet also I lifted up my hand to them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, flowing with milk and honey (which is the glory of all lands), ^20:16because they despised my Judgments, and did not walk in my Statutes, but polluted my Sabbaths: for their heart went after their idols. ^20:17Nevertheless my eye spared them from destroying them; neither did I make an end of them in the wilderness. ^20:18But I said to their children in the wilderness, ‘Do not walk in the statutes of your fathers; neither observe their judgments, nor defile yourselves with their idols; ^20:19I am Jehovah your God. Walk in my Statutes, and keep my Judgments, and do them; ^20:20and hallow my Sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that you may know that I am Jehovah your God.’ ^20:21Notwithstanding the children rebelled against me: they walked not in my Statutes, nor did they keep my Judgments to do them (which if a man does, he shall even live in them); and they polluted my Sabbaths. Then I said, ‘I would pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the wilderness.’ ^20:22Nevertheless I withdrew my hand, and wrought for my Name's sake, so that it would not be polluted in the sight of the heathen, in whose sight I brought them forth.

^20:23“‘I lifted up my hand to them also in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the heathen, and disperse them through the countries, ^20:24because they had not executed my Judgments, but had despised my Statutes, and had polluted my Sabbaths, and their eyes were after their fathers' idols. ^20:25Therefore I gave them also Statutes that were not good, and Judgments whereby they would not live; ^20:26and I polluted them in their own gifts, in that they caused to pass through the fire all that opens the womb, that I might make them desolate, to the end that they might know that I am Jehovah.’”

^20:27“Therefore, son of man, speak to the house of Israel, and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord Jehovah: Yet in this your fathers have blasphemed me, in that they have committed a trespass against me. ^20:28For when I had brought them into the land which I lifted up my hand to give it to them, then they saw every high hill, and all the thick trees, and they offered there their sacrifices, and there they presented the provocation of their offering; there also they made their sweet aroma, and poured out there their drink offerings. ^20:29Then I said to them, ‘What is the high place that you go to?’ And its name is called ‘Bamah’ to this day.

^20:30“Therefore say to the house of Israel, ‘Thus says the Lord Jehovah: Are you not polluted after the manner of your fathers? And do you not commit whoredom after their abominations? ^20:31For when you offer your gifts, when you make your sons to pass through the fire, you pollute yourselves with all your idols, even to this day; and shall I be inquired of by you, O house of Israel? As I live,’ says the Lord Jehovah, ‘I will not be inquired of by you. ^20:32And that which comes into your mind shall not be at all, that you say, ‘We will be as the heathen, as the families of the countries, to serve wood and stone.’

^20:33“‘As I live,’ says the Lord Jehovah, ‘surely with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out, will I rule over you; ^20:34and I will bring you out from the people, and will gather you out of the countries in which you are scattered, with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out. ^20:35And I will bring you into the wilderness of the people, and there will I contend with you face to face. ^20:36Like as I contended with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so will I contend with you,’ says the Lord Jehovah. ^20:37‘And I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the Covenant; ^20:38and I will purge out the rebels from among you, and them that transgress against me; I will bring them forth out of the country where they sojourn, and they shall not enter into the land of Israel; and you shall know that I am Jehovah.’”

^20:39“‘As for you, O house of Israel,’ thus says the Lord Jehovah: ‘Go, and each one of you serve his idols, and hereafter also, if you will not listen to me; but do not pollute my holy Name anymore with your gifts, and with your idols. ^20:40For in my holy mountain, in the mountain of the height of Israel,’ says the Lord Jehovah, ‘there shall all the house of Israel, all of them in the land, serve me; there will I accept them, and there will I require your offerings, and the firstfruits of your oblations, with all your holy things. ^20:41I will accept you with your sweet aroma, when I bring you out from the people, and gather you out of the countries in which you have been scattered; and I will be sanctified in you before the heathen.

^20:42“‘And you shall know that I am Jehovah, when I shall bring you into the land of Israel, into the country concerning which I lifted up my hand to give it to your fathers. ^20:43And there shall you remember your ways, and all your doings, in which you have been defiled; and you shall loathe yourselves in your own sight for all your evils that you have committed. ^20:44And you shall know that I am Jehovah, when I have dealt with you for my Name's sake; but not according to your wicked ways, nor according to your corrupt doings, O you house of Israel,’ says the Lord Jehovah.’”

^20:45Moreover the Word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ^20:46“Son of man, set your face toward the south, and drop your Word toward the south, and prophesy against the forest of the south field; ^20:47and say to the forest of the south, ‘Hear the Word of Jehovah; thus says the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I will kindle a fire in you; and it shall devour every green tree in you, and every dry tree; the flaming flame shall not be quenched, and all faces from the south to the north shall be burned in it. ^20:48And all flesh shall see that I Jehovah have kindled it; it shall not be quenched.’” ^20:49And I said, “Ah Lord Jehovah! They say of me, ‘Does he not speak parables?’”

^21:1And the Word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ^21:2“Son of man, set your face toward Jerusalem, and drop your Word toward the holy places, and prophesy against the land of Israel. ^21:3And say to the land of Israel, ‘Thus says Jehovah: Behold, I am against you, and will draw forth my sword out of his sheath, and will cut off from you the righteous and the wicked. ^21:4Seeing, then, that I will cut off from you the righteous and the wicked, therefore my sword shall go forth out of his sheath against all flesh from the south to the north, ^21:5that all flesh may know that I Jehovah have drawn forth my sword out of his sheath; it shall not return anymore.’

^21:6“Sigh therefore, you son of man, with the breaking of your loins; and with bitterness sigh before their eyes. ^21:7And it shall be, when they say to you, ‘Why do you sigh?’, that you shall answer, ‘‘For the news, because it is coming; and every heart shall melt, and all hands shall be feeble, and every spirit shall faint, and all knees shall be weak as water. Behold, it is coming, and shall be brought to pass,’ says the Lord Jehovah.’”

^21:8Again the Word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ^21:9“Son of man, prophesy, and say, ‘Thus says Jehovah.’ Say, ‘‘A sword, a sword is sharpened, and also polished. ^21:10It is sharpened to make a dreadful slaughter; it is polished that it may glitter. Should we then make merriment? It despises the scepter of my Son, as every tree. ^21:11And he has given it to be polished, that it may be handled. This sword is sharpened, and it is polished, to give it into the hand of the slayer. ^21:12Cry and howl, son of man: for it shall be upon my people; it shall be upon all the princes of Israel. Terrors by reason of the sword shall be upon my people. Smite therefore upon your thigh, ^21:13because it is a trial. And what if the sword despises even the scepter? It shall be no more,’ says the Lord Jehovah.’

^21:14“You therefore, son of man, prophesy, and smite your hands together, and let the sword be doubled the third time, the sword of the slain; it is the sword of the great men that are slain, which enters into their private chambers. ^21:15I have set the point of the sword against all their gates, that their heart may faint, and their ruins be multiplied. Ah! It is made bright, it is grasped for the slaughter. ^21:16Go one way or other, either on the right hand, or on the left, wheresoever your face is set. ^21:17I will also smite my hands together, and I will cause my fury to rest; I Jehovah have said it.”

¶Opposite   Jerusalem was a bloody and wicked city in the sight of Jehovah (21:18 - 22:16)

^21:18The Word of Jehovah came to me again, saying, ^21:19“Also, you son of man, appoint two ways, that the sword of the king of Babylon may come. Both of them shall come forth out of one land; and choose you a place, choose it at the head of the way to the city. ^21:20Appoint a way, that the sword may come to Rabbath of the Ammonites, and to Judah unto fortified Jerusalem: ^21:21for the king of Babylon stood at the parting of the way, at the head of the two ways, to use divination; he made his arrows bright; he consulted with images; he looked in the liver. ^21:22At his right hand was the divination for Jerusalem, to appoint captains, to open the mouth in the slaughter, to lift up the voice with shouting, to appoint battering rams against the gates, to heap up a siege mound, and to build a siege wall. ^21:23And it shall be to them as a false divination in their sight, to them that have sworn oaths; but he will call to remembrance the iniquity, that they may be taken. ^21:24Therefore thus says the Lord Jehovah: ‘Because you have made your iniquity to be remembered, in that your transgressions are discovered, so that in all your doings your sins do appear; because, I say, that you have come to remembrance, you shall be taken with the hand. ^21:25And as for you, profane wicked prince of Israel, whose day has come, when iniquity shall have an end,’ ^21:26thus says the Lord Jehovah: ‘Remove the diadem, and take off the crown; this shall not be the same; exalt him that is low, and abase him that is high. ^21:27I will overturn, overturn, overturn it; and it shall be no more, until he comes whose right it is; and I will give it to him.’

^21:28“And you, son of man, prophesy and say, ‘Thus says the Lord Jehovah concerning the Ammonites, and concerning their reproach’; even say: ‘The sword, the sword is drawn: for the slaughter it is polished, to consume because of the glittering, ^21:29while they see vanity to you, while they divine a lie to you, to bring you upon the necks of them that are slain, of the wicked, whose day has come, when their iniquity shall have an end. ^21:30Shall I cause it to return into his sheath? I will judge you in the place where you were created, in the land of your nativity. ^21:31And I will pour out my indignation upon you; I will blow against you in the fire of my wrath, and deliver you into the hand of brutal men, and skillful to destroy. ^21:32You shall be for fuel to the fire; your blood shall be in the midst of the land; you shall not be remembered anymore: for I Jehovah have spoken it.’”

^22:1Moreover the Word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ^22:2“Now, you son of man, will you judge, will you judge the bloody city? Indeed, you shall show her all her abominations. ^22:3Then say, ‘Thus says the Lord Jehovah: The city sheds blood in its midst, that her time may come, and makes idols against herself to defile herself. ^22:4You have become guilty in your blood that you have shed; and have defiled yourself in your idols that you have made; and you have caused your days to draw near, and have come even to your years; therefore have I made you a reproach to the heathen, and a mocking to all countries. ^22:5Those that are near, and those that are far from you, shall mock you, which are infamous and much vexed.

^22:6“‘Behold the princes of Israel, every one of them used his power in you to shed blood. ^22:7In you have they set light by father and mother; in your midst have they dealt by oppression with the stranger; in you have they vexed the fatherless and the widow. ^22:8You have despised my holy things, and have profaned my Sabbaths. ^22:9In you are men that carry tales to shed blood; and in you they eat upon the mountains; in your midst they commit lewdness. ^22:10In you have they discovered their fathers' nakedness; in you have they humbled her that was set apart for pollution. ^22:11And one has committed abomination with his neighbor's wife; and another has lewdly defiled his daughter-in-law; and another in you has humbled his sister, his father's daughter. ^22:12In you have they taken bribes to shed blood; you have taken usury and increase; and you have greedily gained of your neighbors by extortion, and have forgotten me,’ says the Lord Jehovah.

^22:13“‘Behold, therefore I have smitten my hand at your dishonest gain which you have made, and at your blood which has been in your midst. ^22:14Can your heart endure, or can your hands be strong, in the days that I shall deal with you? I Jehovah have spoken it, and will do it. ^22:15And I will scatter you among the heathen, and disperse you in the countries, and will consume your filthiness out of you. ^22:16And you shall take your inheritance in yourself in the sight of the heathen, and you shall know that I am Jehovah.’”

^22:23And the Word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ^22:24“Son of man, say to her, ‘You are the land that is not cleansed, nor rained upon in the Day of Indignation. ^22:25There is a conspiracy of her prophets in her midst, like a roaring lion devouring the prey. They have devoured souls; they have taken the treasure and precious things; they have made her many widows in its midst. ^22:26Her priests have violated my Law, and have profaned my holy things; they have put no difference between the holy and profane; neither have they shown a difference between the unclean and the clean, and have hidden their eyes from my Sabbaths; and I am profaned among them. ^22:27Her princes in her midst are like wolves devouring the prey: to shed blood, to destroy souls, to get dishonest gain. ^22:28And her prophets have plastered them with unmixed mortar: seeing vanity, and divining lies to them, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord Jehovah’, when Jehovah has not spoken. ^22:29The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery, and have vexed the poor and needy; moreover, they have oppressed the stranger wrongfully. ^22:30And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found none. ^22:31Therefore have I poured out my indignation upon them; I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath. Their own way have I repaid upon their heads,’ says the Lord Jehovah.”

^23:1The Word of Jehovah came again to me, saying, ^23:2“Son of man, there were two women, the daughters of one mother; ^23:3and they committed whoredoms in Egypt; they committed whoredoms in their youth. Their breasts were pressed there, and they bruised the teats of their virginity there. ^23:4And their names were Aholah the elder, and Aholibah her sister; and they were mine, and they bore sons and daughters. These were their names: Samaria is Aholah, and Jerusalem is Aholibah. ^23:5And Aholah played the whore when she was mine; and she lusted after her lovers, on the Assyrians her neighbors, ^23:6which were clothed with blue, captains and rulers, all of them desirable young men, horsemen riding upon horses. ^23:7Thus she committed her whoredoms with them, with all them that were the chosen men of Assyria, and with all after whom she lusted; with all their idols she defiled herself. ^23:8Neither did she leave her whoredoms brought from Egypt: for in her youth they laid with her, and they bruised the breasts of her virginity, and poured their whoredom upon her. ^23:9Therefore I have delivered her into the hand of her lovers, into the hand of the Assyrians, after whom she lusted. ^23:10These discovered her nakedness; they took her sons and her daughters, and slew her with the sword; and she became infamous among women: for they had executed judgment upon her.

^23:11“And when her sister Aholibah saw this, she was more corrupt in her inordinate love than she, and in her whoredoms more than her sister in her whoredoms. ^23:12She lusted for the Assyrians her neighbors, captains and rulers clothed most gorgeously, horsemen riding upon horses, all of them desirable young men. ^23:13Then I saw that she was defiled, that they took both the same way, ^23:14and that she increased her whoredoms. For when she saw men portrayed upon the wall, the images of the Chaldeans portrayed with vermilion, ^23:15girded with belts upon their waists, exceeding in dyed attire upon their heads, all of them princes to look to, after the manner of the Babylonians of Chaldea, the land of their nativity; ^23:16and as soon as she saw them with her eyes, she lusted for them; and she sent messengers to them into Chaldea. ^23:17And the Babylonians came to her into the bed of love, and they defiled her with their whoredom; and she was polluted with them, and her mind was alienated from them. ^23:18So she revealed her whoredoms, and revealed her nakedness. Then my mind was alienated from her, like as my mind was alienated from her sister. ^23:19Yet she multiplied her whoredoms, in calling to remembrance the days of her youth, in which she had played the whore in the land of Egypt: ^23:20for she lusted for their paramours, whose flesh is as the flesh of donkeys, and whose issue is like the issue of horses. ^23:21Thus you called to remembrance the lewdness of your youth, in bruising your teats by the Egyptians for the breasts of your youth.’ ^23:22Therefore, O Aholibah, thus says the Lord Jehovah: ‘Behold, I will raise up your lovers against you, from whom your mind is alienated, and I will bring them against you on every side: ^23:23the Babylonians, and all the Chaldeans, Pekod, and Shoa, and Koa, and all the Assyrians with them: all of them desirable young men, captains and rulers, great lords and renowned, all of them riding upon horses. ^23:24And they shall come against you with chariots, wagons and wheels, and with an assembly of people, which shall set against you buckler and shield and helmet round about; and I will set judgment before them; and they shall judge you according to their judgments. ^23:25And I will set my jealousy against you, and they shall deal furiously with you: they shall take away your nose and your ears; and your remnant shall fall by the sword. They shall take your sons and your daughters; and your remnant shall be devoured by the fire. ^23:26They shall also strip you out of your clothes, and take away your beautiful jewels. ^23:27Thus will I make your lewdness to cease from you, and your whoredom brought from the land of Egypt, so that you shall not lift up your eyes to them, nor remember Egypt anymore.’ ^23:28For thus says the Lord Jehovah: ‘Behold, I will deliver you into the hand of them whom you hate, into the hand of them from whom your mind is alienated; ^23:29and they shall deal with you hatefully, and shall take away all your labor, and shall leave you naked and bare; and the nakedness of your whoredoms shall be discovered, both your lewdness and your whoredoms. ^23:30I will do these things to you, because you have gone a whoring after the heathen, and because you are polluted with their idols. ^23:31You have walked in the way of your sister; therefore will I give her cup into your hand.’ ^23:32Thus says the Lord Jehovah: ‘You shall drink of your sister's cup deep and wide; you shall be laughed to scorn and had in derision; it contains much. ^23:33You shall be filled with drunkenness and sorrow, with the cup of astonishment and desolation, with the cup of your sister Samaria. ^23:34You shall even drink it and suck it out, and you shall break its fragments, and pluck off your own breasts: for I have spoken it,’ says the Lord Jehovah. ^23:35Therefore thus says the Lord Jehovah: ‘Because you have forgotten me, and cast me behind your back, you therefore bear also your lewdness and your whoredoms.’”

^23:36Jehovah said moreover to me, “Son of man, will you judge Aholah and Aholibah? Moreover, declare to them their abominations, ^23:37that they have committed adultery, and blood is in their hands. And with their idols have they committed adultery, and have also caused their sons, whom they bore to me, to pass for them through the fire, to devour them. ^23:38Moreover this have they done to me: they have defiled my Sanctuary in the same day, and have profaned my Sabbaths: ^23:39for when they had slain their children to their idols, then they came the same day into my Sanctuary to profane it; and, lo, thus have they done in the midst of my House. ^23:40And furthermore, that you have sent for men to come from far, to whom a messenger was sent; and, lo, they came, for whom you washed yourself, painted your eyes, and adorned yourself with ornaments, ^23:41and sat upon a stately bed, and a table prepared before it, which you have set my incense and my oil on. ^23:42And a voice of a multitude being at ease was with her; and with the men of the common sort were brought Sabeans from the wilderness, which put bracelets upon their hands, and beautiful crowns upon their heads. ^23:43Then I said to her that was old in adulteries, ‘Will they now commit whoredoms with her, and she with them?’ ^23:44Yet they went in to her, as they go in to a woman that plays the whore; so went they in to Aholah and to Aholibah, the lewd women. ^23:45And the righteous men, they shall judge them after the manner of adulteresses, and after the manner of women that shed blood, because they are adulteresses, and blood is in their hands.’ ^23:46For thus says the Lord Jehovah: ‘I will bring up a company upon them, and will give them to be removed and plundered. ^23:47And the company shall stone them with stones, and dispatch them with their swords; they shall slay their sons and their daughters, and burn up their houses with fire. ^23:48Thus will I cause lewdness to cease out of the land, that all women may be taught not to do after your lewdness. ^23:49And they shall repay your lewdness upon you, and you shall bear the sins of your idols; and you shall know that I am the Lord Jehovah.’”

¶Complement   Jehovah used Ezekiel’s wife as an illustration of Jerusalem’s death (24:1 - 27)

^24:1Again in the ninth year, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, the Word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ^24:2“Son of man, write the name of the day, even of this same day; the king of Babylon set himself against Jerusalem this same day. ^24:3And utter a parable to the rebellious house, and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord Jehovah: Set on a pot; set it on, and also pour water into it. ^24:4Gather the pieces thereof into it, even every good piece, the thigh, and the shoulder; fill it with the choice bones. ^24:5Take the choice of the flock, and burn also the bones under it. Make it boil well; and let them cook its bones in it.’

^24:6“Therefore thus says the Lord Jehovah: ‘Woe to the bloody city, to the pot whose scum is in it, and whose scum is not gone out of it! Bring it out piece by piece; let no lot fall upon it: ^24:7for her blood is in her midst. She set it upon the top of a rock; she did not pour it upon the ground, to cover it with dust, ^24:8that it might cause fury to come up to take vengeance. I have set her blood upon the top of a rock, that it should not be covered.’ ^24:9Therefore thus says the Lord Jehovah: ‘Woe to the bloody city! I will even make the pile for fire great. ^24:10Heap on wood, kindle the fire, consume the flesh, and spice it well; and let the bones be burned. ^24:11Then set it empty upon its coals, that its bronze may be hot, and may burn, and that its filthiness may be molten in it, that its scum may be consumed. ^24:12She has wearied herself with lies, and her great scum did not go forth out of her; her scum shall be in the fire. ^24:13In your filthiness is lewdness. Because I have purged you, and you were not purged, you shall not be purged from your filthiness anymore, until I have caused my fury to rest upon you. ^24:14I Jehovah have spoken it; it shall come to pass, and I will do it; I will not go back; neither will I spare; neither will I repent; according to your ways, and according to your doings, shall they judge you,’ says the Lord Jehovah.”

^24:15Also the Word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ^24:16“Son of man, behold, I am taking the desire of your eyes away from you with a stroke. Yet you shall neither mourn nor weep; neither shall your tears run down. ^24:17Forbear to cry; make no mourning for the dead. Bind the turban of your head upon you; and put on your shoes upon your feet; and cover not your lips; and eat not the bread of men.” ^24:18So I spoke to the people in the morning; and at evening my wife died; and I did in the morning as I was commanded. ^24:19And the people said to me, “Will you not tell us what these things are to us, that you do this?” ^24:20Then I answered them, “The Word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ^24:21‘Speak to the house of Israel, ‘Thus says the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I will profane my Sanctuary, the excellence of your strength, the desire of your eyes, and that which your soul pities; and your sons and your daughters whom you have left shall fall by the sword.’’ ^24:22And you shall do as I have done: you shall not cover your lips, nor eat the bread of men. ^24:23And your turbans shall be upon your heads, and your shoes upon your feet. You shall not mourn nor weep, but you shall pine away for your iniquities, and mourn one toward another.”

^24:24“‘Thus Ezekiel is to you a sign; according to all that he has done shall you do; and when this comes, you shall know that I am the Lord Jehovah.’

^24:25“Also, you son of man, shall it not be in the day when I take from them their strength, the joy of their glory, the desire of their eyes, and that which they set their minds on, their sons and their daughters, ^24:26that he that escapes in that day shall come to you, to cause you to hear it with your ears? ^24:27In that day shall your mouth be opened to him who has escaped; and you shall speak, and no longer be mute. And you shall be a sign to them; and they shall know that I am Jehovah.”

El hijo no llevará la iniquidad del padre; ni el padre llevará la iniquidad del hijo; la justicia del justo será sobre él, y la impiedad del impío será sobre él. ^18:21Pero si el impío se volverá de todos sus pecados que ha cometido, y guarde todos mis estatutos, y haga lo que es lícito y recto, ciertamente vivirá; él no morirá. ^18:22Todas sus transgresiones que él ha cometido, ellos no le serán mencionados. En sus obras de justicia que ha hecho, vivirá.

^18:23“‘¿Tengo algún placer en absoluto que los malvados deben morir?’ dice Jehová el Señor; ‘¿Y no que él debería volver de sus malos caminos y viviera? ^18:24Pero si el justo se apartare de su justicia, y cometiere maldad, e hiciere conforme a todas las abominaciones que el impío hizo; ¿vivirá él? Ninguna de las justicias que hizo le serán recordadas; por su rebelión con que prevaricó, y por su pecado que cometió, por ello morirá.

^18:25“‘Todavía, decís, ‘El camino del Señor no es igual’. Hazles saber las abominaciones de sus padres; ^20:5y diles, ‘Así dice Jehová el Señor, ‘El día que escogí a Israel, e hice juramento a la simiente de la casa de Jacob, y que fui conocido de ellos en la tierra de Egipto, cuando alcé mi mano a ellos y les juré, diciendo, ‘Soy Jehová vuestro Dios’; ^20:6aquel día que les alcé mi mano, jurando así que los sacaría de la tierra de Egipto a la tierra que les había provisto, que fluye leche y miel (la cual es la más hermosa de todas las tierras); ^20:7entonces les dije, ‘Cada uno eche de sí las abominaciones de sus ojos, y no os contaminéis con los ídolos de Egipto. ^20:9“‘Pero actué por causa de mi Nombre, para que no se infamase ante los ojos de las naciones en medio de las cuales estaban, en cuyos ojos me di a conocer, sacándolos de la tierra de Egipto. ^20:10Los saqué, pues, de la tierra de Egipto, y los traje al desierto; ^20:11y les di mis ordenanzas, y les declaré mis decretos, los cuales el hombre que los hiciere, vivirá por ellos. ^20:12Y les di también mis Sábados que fuesen por señal entre mí y ellos, para que supiesen que soy Jehová que los santifico. ^20:13Pero se rebeló contra mí la casa de Israel en el desierto; no anduvieron en mis ordenanzas, y desecharon mis decretos, los cuales el hombre que los hiciere, vivirá por ellos; y mis Sábados profanaron en gran manera. Dije, ‘Por tanto, que había de derramar sobre ellos mi ira en el desierto para consumirlos’. ^20:14Pero actué por causa de mi Nombre, para que éste no se infamase a vista de las naciones, delante de cuyos ojos los saqué’”.

^20:15“‘Todavía también yo les alcé mi mano en el desierto, que no los metería en la tierra que les había dado, que fluye leche y miel (la cual es la más hermosa de todas las tierras): ^20:16porque desecharon mis decretos, y no anduvieron en mis ordenanzas, y mis Sábados profanaron: porque tras sus ídolos iba su corazón. ^20:17Con todo, los perdonó mi ojo, no matándolos, ni los consumí en el desierto. ^20:18Antes dije en el desierto a sus hijos, ‘No andéis en las ordenanzas de vuestros padres, ni guardéis sus leyes, ni os contaminéis con sus ídolos. ^20:19Yo soy Jehová vuestro Dios; andad en mis Estatutos, y guardad mis Decretos, y ponedlos por obra; ^20:20y santificad mis Sábados, y sean por señal entre mí y ustedes, para que sepáis que yo soy Jehová vuestro Dios.’ ^20:21Sin embargo, los hijos se rebelaron contra mí; no anduvieron en mis Estatutos, ni guardaron mis Juicios para hacerlos (las cuales si hombre hace, incluso vivirá en ellas); y profanaron mis Sábados. ^20:23“‘También alcé mi mano a ellos en el desierto, que yo los esparciría entre las naciones y los dispersaría por los países, ^20:24porque no habían ejecutado mis juicios, sino que habían despreciado mis estatutos, y habían contaminado mis sábados, y sus ojos estaban tras los ídolos de sus padres. ^20:25Por tanto, les di también estatutos que no eran buenos, y juicios por los cuales no vivirían. ^20:26Y los contaminé en sus propias ofrendas, en que provocaron todo lo que abre el útero pasar a través del fuego, para que los haga desolados, hasta el final que podrían saber que yo soy Jehová’”.

^20:27“Por tanto, hijo de hombre, habla a la casa de Israel, y diles, ‘Así dice Jehová el Señor: Todavía en esto, tus padres me han blasfemado, en eso han cometido una transgresión contra mí. ^20:28Porque cuando los hube introducido en la tierra que yo había levantado mi mano para dársela, entonces vieron cada colina alta, y todos los árboles espesos, y allí ofrecieron sus sacrificios, y allí presentaron la provocación de su ofrenda; allí también ofrecieron su olor grato, y derramaron allí sus libaciones. ^20:29Y yo les dije, ‘¿Qué es ese lugar alto adonde ustedes vais?’ Y su nombre fue llamado ‘Bama’ hasta el día de hoy.

^20:30“Di, pues, a la casa de Israel, ‘Así dice Jehová el Señor: ¿No estáis contaminados según la costumbre de vuestros padres? ¿Y no hacéis fornicación después de sus abominaciones? ^20:31Porque cuando presentéis vuestras ofrendas, cuando hagáis pasar a vuestros hijos por el fuego, os contaminas con todos vuestros ídolos, incluso hasta el día de hoy. ¿Y seré consultado por ustedes, Oh casa de Israel? Como vivo yo,’ dice Jehová el Señor, ‘No seré consultado por ustedes. ^20:32Y lo que viene a tu mente no será en absoluto, que ustedes decís, ‘Seremos como los paganos, como las familias de las tierras, para servir a la madera y a la piedra’.

^20:33“‘Como vivo yo,’ dice Jehová el Señor, ‘ciertamente con mano fuerte, y con brazo extendido, y con furor derramado, yo gobernaré sobre ustedes; ^20:34y os sacaré de entre los pueblos, y os reuniré de las tierras en que estáis dispersos, con mano fuerte, y con brazo extendido, y con furor derramado. ^20:35Y os llevaré dentro el desierto de los pueblos, y allí contenderé con ustedes cara a cara. ^20:36Como contendí con vuestros padres en el desierto de la tierra de Egipto, así contenderé con ustedes,’ dice Jehová el Señor. ^20:37‘Y os haré pasar por debajo de la vara, y os traeré dentro el vínculo del Pacto; ^20:38y expulsaré desde en medio de ustedes a los rebeldes, y a los que se rebelan contra mí; los traeré fuera de la tierra donde se alojan, y no entrarán en la tierra de Israel; y sabréis que yo soy Jehová’”.

^20:39“‘En cuanto a ustedes, oh casa de Israel,’ así dice Jehová el Señor: ‘Andad cada uno tras sus ídolos, y servidles, pues que a mí no me obedecéis; y no profanéis más mi santo Nombre con vuestras ofrendas, y con vuestros ídolos: ^20:40porque en mi santo monte, en el alto monte de Israel,’ dice Jehová el Señor, ‘allí me servirá toda la casa de Israel, toda ella en la tierra; allí los aceptaré, y allí demandaré vuestras ofrendas, y las primicias de vuestros dones, con todas vuestras cosas consagradas. ^20:41En olor de suavidad os aceptaré, cuando os hubiere sacado de entre los pueblos, y os hubiere reunido de entre las tierras en que estáis esparcidos; y seré santificado en ustedes a los ojos de las naciones.

^20:42“‘Y sabréis que yo soy Jehová, cuando os hubiere metido en la tierra de Israel, en la tierra por la cual alcé mi mano jurando que la daría a vuestros padres. ^20:43Y allí os acordaréis de vuestros caminos, y de todos vuestros hechos en que os contaminasteis; y os detestaréis a ustedes mismos por todos vuestros pecados que cometisteis. ^20:44Y sabréis que yo soy Jehová cuando haga con ustedes por amor de mi Nombre, no según vuestros malos caminos, ni según vuestras perversas obras, oh casa de Israel,’ dice Jehová el Señor’”.

¶Lo opuesto   Jehová sacará a su espada aguda contra Jerusalén (20:45 - 21:17)

^20:45Y la Palabra de Jehová vino a mí, diciendo, ^20:46“Hijo de hombre, pon tu rostro hacia el sur, y derrama tu Palabra hacia la parte austral, y profetiza contra el bosque de la región del sur. ^20:47Y dirás al bosque del sur, ‘Oye Palabra de Jehová; así dice Jehová el Señor: He aquí que yo enciendo en ti fuego, el cual consumirá en ti todo árbol verde, y todo árbol seco; no se apagará la llama del fuego; y serán quemados en ella todos los rostros, desde el sur hasta el norte. ^20:48Y verá toda carne que yo Jehová lo encendí; no se apagará’”. ^20:49Y dije, “¡Ah, Señor Jehová! Dicen de mí, ‘¿No profiere éste parábolas?’”

^21:1Y la Palabra de Jehová vino a mí, diciendo, ^21:2“Hijo de hombre, pon tu rostro hacia Jerusalén, y deja caer tu Palabra hacia los santuarios, y profetiza contra la tierra de Israel. ^21:3Y dirás a la tierra de Israel, ‘Así dice Jehová: He aquí, yo estoy contra ti, y sacaré mi espada de su vaina, y cortaré desde ti al justo y al impío. ^21:4Viendo, entonces que cortaré desde ti al justo y al impío, por tanto, mi espada saldrá de su vaina contra toda carne desde el sur hasta el norte, ^21:5para que toda carne sepa que yo Jehová he desenvainado mi espada; no volverá más’.

^21:6“Suspira, por tanto, hijo de hombre, con el quebrantamiento de tus lomos;, y con amargura; gime delante de los ojos de ellos. ^21:7Y será, que cuando te dijeren, ‘¿Por qué gimes tú?’ Dirás, ‘‘Por la noticia que viene; y todo corazón desfallecerá, y toda mano se debilitará, y se angustiará todo espíritu, y toda rodilla será débil como el agua; he aquí que viene, y se hará,’ dice Jehová el Señor’”.

^21:8Y la Palabra de Jehová vino a mí, diciendo, ^21:9“Hijo de hombre, profetiza, y di, ‘Así dice el Señor’. Di, ‘La espada, la espada está afilada, y también pulida. ^21:10Para degollar víctimas está afilada, pulida está para que relumbre. ¿Hemos de alegrarnos? Al cetro de mi hijo ha menospreciado como a una vara cualquiera. ^21:11Y la dio a pulir para tenerla a mano. La espada está afilada, y pulida está ella, para entregarla en mano del matador. ^21:12Clama y gime, oh hijo de hombre: porque ésta será sobre mi pueblo, será ella sobre todos los príncipes de Israel. Temores de espada serán a mi pueblo; por tanto, hiere el muslo: ^21:13porque está probado. ¿Y qué, si la espada desprecia aun el cetro? Él no será más,’ dice Jehová el Señor’.

^21:14“Tú, pues, hijo de hombre, profetiza y bate una mano con otra, y se duplicará la espada la tercera vez, la espada de muertos; ésta es la espada de la gran matanza que los traspasará, ^21:15para que el corazón desmaye, y los estragos se multipliquen; en todas las puertas de ellos he puesto espanto de espada. ¡Ah! dispuesta está para que relumbre, y preparada para degollar. ^21:16Ponte a una parte, ya sea a la derecha, o a la izquierda, hacia donde tu rostro se determine. ^21:17Y yo también batiré mi mano con mi mano, y haré reposar mi ira. yo Jehová he hablado”.

¶Lo opuesto   Jerusalén era una ciudad sangrienta y perversa a los ojos de Jehová (21:18 - 22:16)

^21:18Y la Palabra de Jehová vino a mí, diciendo, ^21:19“Y tú, hijo de hombre, señálate dos caminos por donde venga la espada del rey de Babilonia; de una misma tierra salgan ambos; y elige un lugar; escógelo en el principio del camino que conduce a la ciudad. ^21:20El camino señalarás por donde venga la espada a Rabá de los hijos de Amón, y a Judá contra Jerusalén la fortificada: ^21:21porque el rey de Babilonia se paró en una encrucijada, al principio de dos caminos, para tomar adivinación; acicaló las saetas, consultó en ídolos, miró el hígado. ^21:22La adivinación señaló a su mano derecha, sobre Jerusalén, para poner capitanes, para abrir la boca a la matanza, para levantar la voz en grito de guerra, para poner arietes contra las puertas, para levantar baluarte, y edificar fuerte. ^21:23Y les será como adivinación mentirosa en sus ojos, por estar juramentados con juramento a ellos; pero él trae a la memoria la maldad de ellos, para prenderlos. ^21:24Por tanto, así ha dicho el Señor Jehová, ‘Por cuanto habéis hecho venir en memoria vuestras maldades, manifestando vuestras traiciones, y descubriendo vuestros pecados en todas vuestras obras; por cuanto habéis venido en memoria, seréis apresados por su mano. ^21:25Y tú, profano e impío príncipe de Israel, cuyo día vino en el tiempo de la consumación de la maldad; ^21:26así ha dicho el Señor Jehová, ‘Depón la mitra, quita la corona; ésta ya no será la misma; sea exaltado lo bajo, y lo alto sea humillado. ^21:27La derribaré, derribaré, derribaré, y ya no será más, hasta que venga Aquél cuyo es el derecho, y se daré a él’.

^21:28“Y tú, hijo de hombre, profetiza, y di, ‘Así dice Jehová el Señor sobre los hijos de Amón, y su oprobio’. Dirás, pues, ‘La espada, la espada está desenvainada para degollar, para consumir; pulida con resplandor. ^21:29Te profetizan vanidad, y te adivinan mentira, para entregarte con los cuellos de los malos sentenciados a muerte, cuyo día vino en tiempo de la consumación de la maldad. ^21:30¿La volveré a su vaina? En el lugar donde te criaste, en la tierra donde has vivido, te juzgaré. ^21:31Y derramaré sobre ti mi ira; el fuego de mi enojo haré encender sobre ti, y te entregaré en mano de hombres temerarios, artífices de destrucción. ^21:32Serás pasto para el fuego; tu sangre quedará en medio de la tierra, y no habrá más memoria de ti: porque yo Jehová he hablado’”.

^22:1Y la Palabra de Jehová vino a mí, diciendo, ^22:2“Ahora tú, hijo de hombre, ¿no juzgarás tú, no juzgarás tú a la ciudad derramadora de sangre, y le mostrarás todas sus abominaciones? ^22:3Dirás, pues, ‘Así dice Jehová el Señor, ‘¡Ciudad derramadora de sangre en medio de sí, para que venga su hora, y que hizo ídolos contra sí misma para contaminarse! ^22:4En tu sangre que derramaste has pecado, y te has contaminado en tus ídolos que hiciste; y has hecho acercar tus días, y has llegado al término de tus años; por tanto te he dado en oprobio a las naciones, y en escarnio a todas las tierras. ^22:5Las que están cerca de ti y las que están lejos se reirán de ti, que eres amancillada de nombre y de gran turbación.

^22:6“‘He aquí que los príncipes de Israel, cada uno según su poder, estuvieron en ti para derramar sangre. ^22:7Despreciaron en ti al padre y a la madre; al extranjero trataron con violencia en medio de ti; y despojaron en ti al huérfano y a la viuda. ^22:8Has menospreciado mis cosas sagradas, y mis Sábados has profanado. ^22:9Calumniadores hubo en ti para derramar sangre; y sobre los montes comieron en ti; hicieron en medio de ti perversidades. ^22:10La desnudez del padre descubrieron en ti; la inmunda de menstruo humillaron en ti. ^22:11Y cada uno hizo abominación con la esposa de su prójimo; y otro contaminó pervertidamente a su nuera; y en ti otro humilló a su hermana, hija de su padre. ^22:12Precio recibieron en ti para derramar sangre; interés y usura tomaste, y a tus prójimos defraudaste con violencia; te olvidaste de mí,’ dice Jehová el Señor.

^22:13“‘Y he aquí, que golpeé mi mano a causa de tu avaricia que cometiste, y a causa de la sangre que derramaste en medio de ti. ^22:14¿Estará firme tu corazón? ¿Tus manos serán fuertes en los días que yo actúe contra ti? Yo Jehová he hablado, y lo haré. ^22:15Y yo te dispersaré por las naciones, y te esparciré por las tierras; y haré fenecer de ti tu inmundicia. ^22:16Y tomarás heredad para ti a los ojos de las naciones; y sabrás que yo soy Jehová’”.

§Único   Conclusión: Jehová mató a Samaria y Jerusalén como esposas adúlteras, y la esposa de Ezequiel murió como una ilustración de Jerusalén (22:17 - 24:27)

¶El complemento   Samaria y Jerusalén eran como esposas, esposas malvadas, a quienes Jehová juzgó con la muerte (22:17 - 23:49)

^22:17Y la Palabra de Jehová vino a mí, diciendo, ^22:18“Hijo de hombre, la casa de Israel se me ha vuelto en escoria; todos ellos son bronce y estaño y hierro y plomo en medio del horno; y en escorias de plata se volvieron. ^22:19Por tanto, así dice Jehová el Señor, ‘Por cuanto todos ustedes os habéis vuelto en escorias, por tanto, he aquí que yo os juntaré en medio de Jerusalén. ^22:20Como quien junta plata y bronce y hierro y plomo y estaño en medio del horno, para encender fuego en él para fundir; así os juntaré en mi furor y en mi ira, y os dejaré allí, y os fundiré. ^22:21Yo os juntaré y soplaré sobre ustedes en el fuego de mi furor, y en medio de él seréis fundidos. ^22:22Como se funde la plata en medio del horno, así seréis fundidos en medio de él; y sabréis que yo Jehová habré derramado mi furor sobre ustedes’”.

^22:23Y la Palabra de Jehová vino a mí, diciendo, ^22:24“Hijo de hombre, di a ella, ‘‘Tú eres la tierra que no es limpiada, ni llovido al en el Día de la Indignación. ^22:25Hay una conspiración de sus profetas en medio de ella, como león rugiente devorando la presa. Han devorado almas; se han llevado el tesoro y las cosas preciosas; han hecho muchas viudas en medio de ella. ^22:26Sus sacerdotes han violado mi Ley y han profanado mis cosas santas; no han puesto diferencia entre el santo y el profano; ni han hecho diferencia entre lo inmundo y lo limpio, y han escondido sus ojos de mis sábados; y soy profanado entre ellos. ^22:27Sus príncipes en medio de ella son como lobos que devoran la presa: para derramar sangre, para destruir almas, para obtener ganancias deshonestas. ^22:28Y sus profetas los han enyesado con mortero sin mezclar: viendo vanidad, y adivinar mentiras hasta ellos, diciendo, ‘Así dice Jehová el Señor’, cuando Jehová no había hablado. ^22:29El pueblo de la tierra usaba de opresión y cometía robo, y han molestado a los pobres y necesitados; además, han oprimido al extraño injustamente. ^22:30Y busqué hombre entre ellos que hiciese vallado y que se pusiese en la brecha delante de mí para la tierra, que yo no debería destruirlo; pero encontré ninguno. ^22:31Por tanto, he derramado mi indignación sobre ellos; los he consumido con el fuego de mi ira. He retribuido su propia manera sobre sus cabezas,’ dice Jehová el Señor’”.

^23:1Y la Palabra de Jehová vino a mí, diciendo, ^23:2“Hijo de hombre, hubo dos mujeres, hijas de una madre, ^23:3las cuales se prostituyeron en Egipto; en su juventud se prostituyeron. Allí fueron apretados sus pechos, y allí fueron estrujados los pechos de su virginidad. ^23:4Y se llamaban, la mayor, Ahola, y su hermana, Aholiba; las cuales fueron mías, y dieron a luz hijos e hijas. Y llamaron a Samaria, Ahola; y Jerusalén, Aholiba. ^23:5Y Ahola se prostituyó aun cuando era mía; y se enamoró de sus amantes, los asirios sus vecinos, ^23:6vestidos de púrpura, capitanes y príncipes, todos ellos jóvenes codiciables, jinetes que montaban a caballo. ^23:7Y se prostituyó con ellos, con todos los más escogidos de los hijos de los asirios, y con todos aquellos de quienes se enamoró; se contaminó con todos los ídolos de ellos. ^23:8Y no dejó sus prostituciones traídas de Egipto: porque con ella se echaron en su juventud, y ellos estrujaron los pechos de su virginidad, y derramaron sobre ella su prostitución. ^23:9Por lo cual la entregué en mano de sus amantes, en mano de los hijos de los asirios, de quienes se había enamorado. ^23:10Ellos descubrieron su desnudez, tomaron sus hijos y sus hijas, y a ella mataron a espada; y vino a ser famosa entre las mujeres, pues en ella ejecutaron juicios.

^23:11“Y lo vio su hermana Aholiba, y se corrompió en sus deseos más que ella; y sus prostituciones, fueron más que las prostituciones de su hermana. ^23:12Y se enamoró de los hijos de los Asirios, sus vecinos, capitanes y príncipes, vestidos en perfección, jinetes que andaban a caballo, todos ellos jóvenes codiciables. ^23:13Y vi que se había contaminado; un mismo camino era el de ambas. ^23:14Y aumentó sus prostituciones; pues cuando vio hombres pintados en la pared, imágenes de caldeos pintadas de color, ^23:15ceñidos de talabartes por sus lomos, y turbantes de colores en sus cabezas, teniendo todos ellos parecer de capitanes, a la manera de los hombres de Babilonia, nacidos en tierra de caldeos, ^23:16al verlos se enamoró de ellos, y les envió mensajeros a la tierra de los caldeos. ^23:17Y entraron a ella los hombres de Babilonia al lecho de amores, y la contaminaron con su prostitución; y ella también se contaminó con ellos, y su deseo se sació de ellos. ^23:18Así hizo patentes sus prostituciones, y descubrió su desnudez. Por lo cual mi alma se hastió de ella, como se había ya hastiado mi alma de su hermana. ^23:19Aun multiplicó sus prostituciones trayendo en memoria los días de su juventud, en los cuales se había prostituido en la tierra de Egipto. ^23:20Y porque ella lujuriaba por sus amantes, cuya carne es como carne de asnos, y cuyo flujo como flujo de caballos. ^23:21Así trajiste a la memoria la lujuria de tu juventud, cuando los egipcios comprimieron tus pechos, los pechos de tu juventud’. ^23:22Por tanto, Aholiba, así dice Jehová el Señor, ‘He aquí que yo despierto tus amantes contra ti, de los cuales se sació tu deseo, y yo les haré venir contra ti en derredor; ^23:23los de Babilonia, y todos los caldeos, los de Pecod, Soa y Coa, y todos los de Asiria con ellos; jóvenes todos ellos codiciables, capitanes y gobernadores, nobles y varones de renombre, que montan a caballo todos ellos. ^23:24Y vendrán contra ti carros, carretas, y ruedas, y multitud de pueblos. Escudos, y paveses, y yelmos pondrán contra ti en derredor; y yo daré el juicio delante de ellos, y por sus leyes te juzgarán. ^23:25Y pondré mi celo contra ti, y obrarán contigo con furor; te quitarán tu nariz y tus orejas, y lo que te quedare caerá a espada. Ellos tomarán a tus hijos y a tus hijas, y tu remanente será consumido por el fuego. ^23:26Y te despojarán de tus vestidos, y tomarán tus hermosas joyas. ^23:27Y haré cesar de ti tu suciedad, y tu prostitución de la tierra de Egipto; y no levantarás más a ellos tus ojos, ni nunca más te acordarás de Egipto’. ^23:28Porque así dice Jehová el Señor, ‘He aquí, yo te entrego en mano de aquellos que tú aborreciste, en mano de aquellos de los cuales se hastió tu alma; ^23:29los cuales obrarán contigo con odio, y tomarán todo lo que tú trabajaste, y te dejarán desnuda y descubierta; y se descubrirá la vergüenza de tus prostituciones; tanto tu lujuria como tus prostituciones. ^23:30Estas cosas se harán contigo: porque te prostituiste en pos de las naciones, en las cuales te contaminaste con sus ídolos. ^23:31En el camino de tu hermana anduviste; yo, pues, pondré su cáliz en tu mano’. ^23:32Así dice Jehová el Señor, ‘Beberás el hondo y ancho cáliz de tu hermana; de ti se mofarán las gentes, y te escarnecerán; de grande cabida es. ^23:33Serás llena de embriaguez y de dolor por el cáliz de soledad y desolación, por el cáliz de tu hermana Samaria. ^23:34Lo beberás, pues, y lo agotarás, y quebrarás sus tiestos; y rasgarás tus pechos: porque yo he hablado,’ dice Jehová el Señor. ^23:35Por tanto, así dice Jehová el Señor, ‘Por cuanto te has olvidado de mí, y me has echado tras tus espaldas, por eso, lleva tú también tu suciedad y tus fornicaciones’”.

^23:36Jehová me dijo además, “Hijo de hombre, ¿no juzgarás tú a Ahola, y a Aholiba, y les denunciarás sus abominaciones? ^23:37Porque han adulterado, y hay sangre en sus manos, y han cometido adulterio con sus ídolos; y aun sus hijos que habían dado a luz para mí, hicieron pasar por el fuego, quemándolos. ^23:38Además me hicieron esto: contaminaron mi Santuario en aquel día, y profanaron mis Sábados; ^23:39pues habiendo sacrificado sus hijos a sus ídolos, entraban en mi Santuario el mismo día para contaminarlo; y he aquí, así hicieron en medio de mi Casa. ^23:40Y aun más, pues enviaron por hombres que viniesen de lejos, a los cuales había sido enviado mensajero; y he aquí vinieron; y por amor de ellos te lavaste, y pintaste tus ojos, y te ataviaste con adornos; ^23:41y te sentaste sobre suntuoso estrado, y fue aderezada mesa delante de él, y sobre ella pusiste mi incienso y mi óleo. ^23:42Y se oyó en ella voz de compañía en holganza; y con los varones de la gente común fueron traídos los sabeos del desierto; y pusieron brazaletes sobre sus manos, y hermosas coronas sobre sus cabezas. ^23:43Y dije acerca de la envejecida en adulterios, ‘¿Cometerán ahora prostituciones con ella, y ella con ellos?’ ^23:44Porque han venido a ella como quien viene a mujer ramera; así vinieron a Ahola y a Aholiba, mujeres depravadas. ^23:45Por tanto, hombres justos las juzgarán por la ley de las adúlteras, y por la ley de las que derraman sangre: porque son adúlteras, y sangre hay en sus manos’. ^23:46Por lo que así dice Jehová el Señor, ‘Yo haré subir contra ellas compañías, las entregaré a turbación y a rapiña. ^23:47Y la asamblea las apedreará, y las atravesarán con sus espadas; matarán a sus hijos y a sus hijas, y a sus casas consumirán con fuego. ^23:48Y haré cesar la depravación de la tierra, y escarmentarán todas las mujeres, y no harán según vuestra depravación. ^23:49Y sobre ustedes pondrán vuestra depravación, y llevaréis el pecado de adorar vuestros ídolos; y sabréis que soy Jehová el Señor’”.

¶El complemento   Jehová usó a la esposa de Ezequiel como una ilustración de la muerte de Jerusalén (24:1 - 27)

^24:1Y la Palabra de Jehová vino a mí en el noveno año, en el mes décimo, a los diez del mes, diciendo, ^24:2“Hijo de hombre, escríbete la fecha de este día; el rey de Babilonia se puso contra Jerusalén este mismo día. ^24:3Y pronuncia una parábola a la casa rebelde, y diles, ‘Así dice Jehová el Señor, ‘Pon una olla, ponla, y echa también agua en ella; ^24:4junta sus piezas de carne en ella; todas buenas piezas, pierna y espalda; llénala de huesos escogidos. ^24:5Toma una oveja escogida; y también enciende los huesos debajo de ella; haz que hierva bien; cuece también sus huesos dentro de ella’.

^24:6“Pues así dice Jehová el Señor, ‘¡Ay de la ciudad sanguinaria, de la olla enmohecida, y cuyo moho no salió de ella! Por sus piezas, por sus piezas sácala; no caiga suerte sobre ella: ^24:7porque su sangre está en medio de ella; sobre una roca alisada la derramó; no la derramó sobre la tierra para que fuese cubierta con polvo. ^24:8Habiendo, pues, hecho subir la ira para hacer venganza, yo pondré su sangre sobre la roca alisada, para que no sea cubierta’. ^24:9Por tanto, así dice Jehová el Señor, ‘¡Ay de la ciudad sanguinaria! Pues también haré yo grande la hoguera, ^24:10multiplicando la leña, encendiendo el fuego, para consumir la carne y hacer la salsa; y los huesos serán quemados. ^24:11Asentando después la olla vacía sobre sus brasas, para que se caldee, y se queme su fondo, y se funda en ella su suciedad, y se consuma su herrumbre. ^24:12Se fatigó con mentiras, y no salió de ella su mucha herrumbre. En fuego su herrumbre será consumida. ^24:13En tu suciedad perversa padecerás: porque te limpié, y tú no te limpiaste de tu suciedad; nunca más te limpiarás, hasta que yo haga que mi ira repose sobre ti. ^24:14Yo Jehová he hablado; vendrá, y lo haré. No me volveré atrás, ni tendré misericordia, ni me arrepentiré; según tus caminos y tus obras te juzgarán,’ dice Jehová el Señor”.

^24:15Y la Palabra de Jehová vino a mí, diciendo, ^24:16“Hijo de hombre, he aquí que yo te quito de golpe el deleite de tus ojos; no endeches, ni llores, ni corran tus lágrimas. ^24:17Reprime el suspirar, no hagas luto de mortuorios; ata tu mitra sobre ti, y pon tus zapatos en tus pies, y no te cubras con rebozo, ni comas pan de hombres”. ^24:18Y hablé al pueblo por la mañana, y a la tarde murió mi esposa; y a la mañana hice como me fue mandado. ^24:19Y me dijo el pueblo, “¿No nos enseñarás qué significan para nosotros estas cosas que tú haces?”. ^24:20Y yo les dije, “La Palabra de Jehová vino a mí, diciendo, ^24:21‘Di a la casa de Israel, ‘Así dice Jehová el Señor, ‘He aquí yo profano mi Santuario, la gloria de vuestra fortaleza, el deseo de vuestros ojos, y el deleite de vuestra alma; vuestros hijos y vuestras hijas que dejasteis caerán a espada”. ^24:22Y haréis de la manera que yo hice: no os cubriréis con rebozo, ni comeréis pan de hombres; ^24:23y vuestras mitras estarán sobre vuestras cabezas, y vuestros zapatos en vuestros pies; no endecharéis ni lloraréis, sino que os consumiréis a causa de vuestras maldades, y gemiréis unos con otros.

^24:24“‘Ezequiel, pues, os será por señal; según todas las cosas que él hizo, haréis; cuando esto suceda, entonces sabréis que yo soy Jehová el Señor’.

^24:25“Y tú, hijo de hombre, ¿no será en el día en que les quitaré su fuerza, el gozo de su gloria, el deseo de sus ojos, y aquello que ellos pusieron sus mentes sobre, sus hijos y sus hijas, ^24:26que el que escape en aquel día vendrá a ti, para hacerte oír con tus oídos? ^24:27En aquel día se abrirá tu boca para hablar con el que haya escapado, y hablarás, y no estarás más mudo. Y les serás por señal, y sabrán que yo soy Jehová”.
