Ezekiel, Chapter 2.3: Jehovah will restore Israel as an independent nation before the Millennial Kingdom (37:1 - 39:29)

Introduction: Jehovah will return the people of Israel to their land after many years of diaspora (37:1 - 14)

¶Opposite   Jehovah commanded Ezekiel to prophesy on the dry bones of dead Israel to raise them from the dead (37:1 - 10)

¶Opposite   Jehovah promised to bring Israel back from the dead and place them in their own land again (37:11 - 14)

Body: Jehovah will defend the restored nation of Israel from the coalition army led by Gog of Russia (37:15 - 39:16)

¶Opposite   Jehovah will make an everlasting Covenant of peace with Israel during the Millennial Kingdom of Christ (37:20 - 28)

^37:1The hand of Jehovah was upon me; and he carried me out in the Spirit of Jehovah, and set me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones; ^37:2and he caused me to pass by them round about; and, behold, there were very many in the open valley; and, lo, they were very dry.

^37:3And he said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” And I answered, “O Lord Jehovah, you know.”

^37:4Again he said to me, “Prophesy upon these bones, and say to them, ‘O you dry bones, hear the Word of Jehovah.’ ^37:5Thus says the Lord Jehovah to these bones: ‘Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live; ^37:6and I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live; and you shall know that I am Jehovah.’”

^37:7So I prophesied as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to his bone. ^37:8And when I beheld, lo, the sinews and the flesh came up upon them, and the skin covered them above; but there was no breath in them.

^37:9Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the Spirit; prophesy, son of man, and say to the Spirit, ‘Thus says the Lord Jehovah: ‘Come from the four winds, O Spirit, and blow upon these slain, that they may live.’’” ^37:10So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the Spirit came into them; and they lived, and stood up on their feet, a vast army.

¶Opposite   Jehovah promised to bring Israel back from the dead and place them in their own land again (37:11 - 14)

^37:11Then he said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel.

Behold, they say, ‘Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost; we are cut off for our parts.’

^37:12Therefore prophesy and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord Jehovah: ‘Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel.

^37:13And you shall know that I am Jehovah, when I have opened your graves, O my people, and brought you up out of your graves; ^37:14and I shall put my Spirit in you, and you shall live, and I shall place you in your own land.

Then you shall know that I Jehovah have spoken it; and I have performed it,’ says Jehovah.’”

^37:17And join them one to another into one stick;

and they shall become one in your hand.

^37:18And when the children of your people shall speak to you, saying, ‘Will you not show us what you mean by these?’

^37:19Say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord Jehovah: ‘Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his companions, and will put them with him, even with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they shall be one in my hand.’’

¶Opposite   Jehovah will make an everlasting Covenant of peace with Israel during the Millennial Kingdom of Christ (37:20 - 28)

^37:20And the sticks which you write on shall be in your hand before their eyes; ^37:21and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord Jehovah: ‘Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the heathen, where they are gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land. ^37:22And I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king to them all; and they shall not be two nations anymore; neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms anymore at all; ^37:23neither shall they defile themselves anymore with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions; but I will save them out of all their dwelling places, in which they have sinned, and will cleanse them; so shall they be my people, and I will be their God.

^37:24And David my servant shall be king over them; and they shall all have one Shepherd. They shall also walk in my Judgments, and observe my Statutes, and do them. ^37:25And they shall dwell in the land that I have given to Jacob my servant, in which your fathers have dwelt; and they shall dwell in it, even they, and their children, and their children's children forever; and my servant David shall be their prince forever.

^37:26Moreover I will make a Covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting Covenant with them; and I will place them, and multiply them, and will set my Sanctuary in their midst forevermore.

^37:27My Tabernacle also shall be with them; moreover, I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

^37:28And the heathen shall know that I Jehovah do sanctify Israel, when my Sanctuary shall be in their midst forevermore.’”

^38:1And the Word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ^38:2“Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him; ^38:3and say, ‘Thus says the Lord Jehovah: ‘Behold I am against you, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal.

^38:4And I will turn you back, and put hooks into your jaws, and I will bring you forth, and all your army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armor, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords ^38:5(Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them), all of them with shield and helmet; ^38:6Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands; and many people with you.

^38:7Be prepared, and prepare for yourself, you, and all your company that are assembled to you, and you be a guard to them.

^38:8After many days you shall be visited; in the Latter years you shall come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people: against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste; but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them. ^38:9You shall ascend and come like a storm, you shall be like a cloud to cover the land: you, all your bands, and many people with you.’

^38:10Thus says the Lord Jehovah: ‘It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into your mind, and you shall think an evil thought. ^38:11And you shall say, ‘I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates, ^38:12to take plunder, and to take a prey’: to turn your hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land. ^38:13Sheba, Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all its young lions, shall say to you, ‘Have you come to take plunder? Have you gathered your company to take a prey? To carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great plunder?’’

¶Complement   Gog will send his army against the nation of Israel and Jehovah shall defend it (38:14 - 23)

^38:14Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say to Gog, ‘Thus says the Lord Jehovah: ‘In that day when my people of Israel dwells safely, shall you not know it?

^38:15And you shall come from your place out of the north parts, you, and many people with you, all of them riding upon horses, a great company, and a mighty army. ^38:16And you shall come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the Latter Days, and I will bring you against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be sanctified in you, O Gog, before their eyes.’

^38:17Thus says the Lord Jehovah: ‘Are you not he of whom I have spoken in old time by my servants the Prophets of Israel, which prophesied in those days many years later that I would bring you against them?’

^38:18And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel,’ says the Lord Jehovah, ‘that my fury shall come up in my face.’ ^38:19For in my jealousy and in the fire of my wrath have I spoken: ‘Surely in that day there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel, ^38:20so that the fish of the sea, and the birds of the heaven, and the beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall shake at my presence, and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.

^38:21And I will call for a sword against him throughout all my mountains,’ says the Lord Jehovah. ‘Every man's sword shall be against his brother. ^38:22And I will contend against him with disease and with blood; and I will rain upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many people that are with him, an overflowing rain, great hailstones, fire, and brimstone. ^38:23Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I am Jehovah.’’

^39:1Therefore, you son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, ‘Thus says the Lord Jehovah: ‘Behold, I am against you, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal; ^39:2and I will turn you back, and leave but the sixth part of you, and will cause you to come up from the north parts, and will bring you upon the mountains of Israel; ^39:3and I will smite your bow out of your left hand, and will cause your arrows to fall out of your right hand.

^39:4You shall fall upon the mountains of Israel: you, all your bands, and the people that are with you; I will give you to the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured. ^39:5You shall fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it,’ says the Lord Jehovah. ^39:6‘And I will send a fire on Magog, and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles; and they shall know that I am Jehovah.

^39:7So will I make my holy Name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy Name anymore; and the heathen shall know that I am Jehovah, the Holy One in Israel. ^39:8Behold, it has come, and it is done,’ says the Lord Jehovah; ‘this is the day of which I have spoken. ^39:9And they that dwell in the cities of Israel shall go forth, and shall set on fire and burn the weapons, both the shields and the bucklers, the bows and the arrows, and the hand staves, and the spears, and they shall burn them with fire seven years, ^39:10so that they shall take no wood out of the field; neither cut down any out of the forests: for they shall burn the weapons with fire; and they shall plunder those that plundered them, and rob those that robbed them,’ says the Lord Jehovah.

^39:11‘And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give to Gog a place there of graves in Israel, the valley of the passengers on the east of the sea; and it shall stop the noses of the passengers; and there shall they bury Gog and all his multitude; and they shall call it ‘The Valley of Hamon-gog.’ ^39:12And seven months shall the house of Israel be burying of them, that they may cleanse the land. ^39:13Moreover, all the people of the land shall bury them; and it shall be to them a renown the day that I shall be glorified,’ says the Lord Jehovah.

^39:14‘And they shall set apart men of regular employment, passing through the land to bury with the passengers those that remain upon the face of the earth, to cleanse it; after the end of seven months shall they search. ^39:15And the passengers that pass through the land, when any sees a man's bone, then shall he set up a sign by it, until the buriers have buried it in the valley of Hamon-gog. ^39:16And also the name of the city shall be Hamonah. Thus shall they cleanse the land.’’

^39:19And you shall eat fat until you are full, and drink blood until you are drunk, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you.

^39:20Thus you shall be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war,’ says the Lord Jehovah.

^39:21‘And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon them.

^39:22So the house of Israel shall know that I am Jehovah their God from that day and forward.

^39:23And the heathen shall know that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity; because they trespassed against me, therefore hid I my face from them, and gave them into the hand of their enemies; so they all fell by the sword. ^39:24According to their uncleanness and according to their transgressions have I done to them, and hidden my face from them.’

^39:25Therefore thus says the Lord Jehovah: ‘Now will I bring again the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel, and will be jealous for my holy Name, ^39:26after they have borne their shame, and all their trespasses whereby they have trespassed against me, when they dwelt safely in their land, and no one made them afraid.

^39:27When I have brought them again from the people, and gathered them out of their enemies' lands, and am sanctified in them in the sight of many nations, ^39:28then shall they know that I am Jehovah their God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen; but I have gathered them to their own land, and have left none of them there anymore.

^39:29Neither will I hide my face any longer from them: for I have poured out my Spirit upon the house of Israel,’ says the Lord Jehovah.”

^38:15Y vendrás de tu lugar, de las partes del norte, tú y muchos pueblos contigo, todos ellos a caballo, gran multitud y poderoso ejército. ^38:16Y subirás contra mi pueblo Israel como nublado para cubrir la tierra; será al cabo de los días; y te traeré sobre mi tierra, para que las naciones me conozcan, cuando yo sea santificado en ti, oh Gog, delante de sus ojos’.

^38:17Así dice Jehová el Señor, ‘¿No eres tú aquél de quien hablé yo en tiempos pasados por mis siervos los Profetas de Israel, los cuales profetizaron en aquellos tiempos que yo te había de traer sobre ellos?

^38:18Y será en aquel tiempo, cuando vendrá Gog contra la tierra de Israel,’ dice Jehová el Señor, ‘que subirá mi ira en mi enojo’. ^38:19Porque he hablado en mi celo, y en el fuego de mi ira: ‘Que en aquel tiempo habrá gran temblor sobre la tierra de Israel, ^38:20que los peces del mar, y las aves del cielo, y las bestias del campo, y todo reptil que se arrastra sobre la tierra, y todos los hombres que están sobre la faz de la tierra, temblarán a mi presencia; y se arruinarán los montes, y los vallados caerán, y todo muro caerá a tierra.

^38:21Y en todos mis montes llamaré contra él espada,’ dice Jehová el Señor; ‘La espada de cada cual será contra su hermano. ^38:22Y yo haré juicio contra él con pestilencia y con sangre; y haré llover sobre él, sobre sus tropas, y sobre los muchos pueblos que están con él, impetuosa lluvia, y piedras de granizo, fuego y azufre. ^38:23Y seré engrandecido y santificado, y seré conocido en ojos de muchas naciones; y sabrán que soy Jehová’’.

¶Único   Los soldados muertos del ejército de Gog tardarán siete meses en enterrarse (39:1 - 16)

^39:1Tú, pues, hijo de hombre, profetiza contra Gog, y di, ‘Así dice Jehová el Señor, ‘He aquí yo contra ti, oh Gog, príncipe de la cabecera de Mesec y Tubal; ^39:2y te quebrantaré, y dejaré de ti sólo la sexta parte, y te haré subir de las partes del norte, y te traeré sobre los montes de Israel; ^39:3y romperé tu arco de tu mano izquierda, y derribaré tus saetas de tu mano derecha.

^39:4Sobre los montes de Israel caerás tú, y todas tus tropas, y los pueblos que fueron contigo; a toda ave de rapiña de toda especie, y a las fieras del campo, te daré por comida. ^39:5Sobre la faz del campo caerás: porque yo he hablado,’ dice Jehová el Señor. ^39:6‘Y enviaré fuego sobre Magog, y sobre los que moran seguros en las islas; y sabrán que soy Jehová.

^39:7Y haré notorio mi santo Nombre en medio de mi pueblo Israel, y nunca más dejaré profanar mi santo Nombre; y sabrán las naciones que soy Jehová, el Santo en Israel. ^39:8He aquí, ha venido, y se ha cumplido,’ dice Jehová el Señor; ‘éste es el día del cual he hablado. ^39:9Y los moradores de las ciudades de Israel saldrán, y encenderán y quemarán armas, y escudos, y paveses, arcos y saetas, dardos de mano y lanzas; y las quemarán en fuego por siete años. ^39:10Y no traerán leña del campo, ni cortarán de los bosques, sino que quemarán las armas en el fuego; y despojarán a sus despojadores, y robarán a los que los robaron,’ dice Jehová el Señor.

^39:11‘Y será en aquel tiempo, que yo daré a Gog lugar para sepultura allí en Israel, el valle de los que pasan al oriente del mar, y obstruirá el paso a los transeúntes, pues allí enterrarán a Gog y a toda su multitud; y lo llamarán ‘El valle de Hamón-gog’. ^39:12Y la casa de Israel los estará enterrando por siete meses, para limpiar la tierra. ^39:13Todo el pueblo de la tierra los enterrará; y será célebre para ellos el día que yo sea glorificado,’ dice Jehová el Señor.

^39:14‘Y tomarán hombres a jornal, que vayan por el país con los que viajen, para enterrar a los que queden sobre la faz de la tierra, a fin de limpiarla; al cabo de siete meses harán el reconocimiento. ^39:15Y pasarán los que irán por el país, y el que viere los huesos de algún hombre, pondrá junto a ellos una señal, hasta que los entierren los sepultureros en el valle de Hamón-gog. ^39:16Y también el nombre de la ciudad será Hamona; y limpiarán la tierra’’.

§El complemento   Conclusión: Jehová llamará a las aves y bestias para que se coman al ejército de Gog, e Israel sabrá que Jehová es su Dios (39:17 - 29)

¶El complemento   Jehová llamó a cada ave y bestia a comer la carne y la sangre de los soldados muertos del ejército de Gog (39:17 - 21)

^39:17Y tú, hijo de hombre, así dice Jehová el Señor, ‘Di a todas las aves, y a toda bestia del campo, ‘Juntaos, y venid; reuníos de todas partes a mi víctima que sacrifico para ustedes, un sacrificio grande sobre los montes de Israel, y comeréis carne y beberéis sangre.

^39:18Comeréis carne de poderosos, y beberéis la sangre de príncipes de la tierra; de carneros, de corderos, de machos cabríos, de bueyes, de toros, engordados todos de Basán.

^39:19Y comeréis gordura hasta saciaros y beberéis sangre hasta embriagaros, de mis víctimas que yo sacrifiqué por ustedes.

^39:20Y os hartaréis sobre mi mesa, de caballos, y de jinetes fuertes, y de todos los hombres de guerra,’ dice Jehová el Señor.

^39:21‘Y pondré mi gloria entre las naciones, y todas las naciones verán mi juicio que habré hecho, y mi mano que sobre ellos puse.

¶El complemento   Israel sabrá que Jehová es su Dios (39:22 - 29)

^39:22Y de aquel día en adelante sabrá la casa de Israel que soy Jehová su Dios.

^39:23Y sabrán las naciones que la casa de Israel fue llevada cautiva por su pecado; por cuanto se rebelaron contra mí, y yo escondí de ellos mi rostro, y los entregué en mano de sus enemigos, y cayeron todos a espada. ^39:24Conforme a su inmundicia y conforme a sus rebeliones hice con ellos; y de ellos escondí mi rostro’.

^39:25Por tanto, así dice Jehová el Señor, ‘Ahora volveré la cautividad de Jacob, y tendré misericordia de toda la casa de Israel, y me mostraré celoso por mi santo Nombre. ^39:26Y ellos sentirán su vergüenza, y toda su rebelión con que prevaricaron contra mí, cuando habiten seguros en su tierra, sin que nadie los espante.

^39:27Cuando los haga volver de los pueblos, y los reúna de las tierras de sus enemigos, y sea santificado en ellos ante los ojos de muchas naciones, ^39:28y sabrán que soy Jehová su Dios, cuando después de que hice que fuesen llevados en cautiverio entre las naciones, los reúna sobre su tierra, sin dejar allá a ninguno de ellos.

^39:29No esconderé más de ellos mi rostro: porque habré derramado de mi Espíritu sobre la casa de Israel,’ dice Jehová el Señor”.
