Isaiah, Chapter 1.1: The Kingdom of Zion has rebelled against Jehovah (1:1 - 3:12)

Introduction: The people of Judah had turned their backs on Jehovah, and their land was destroyed by foreign invasions (1:1 - 9)

Body: The people of Judah and Jerusalem had fallen away from Jehovah their God (1:10 - 2:21)

¶Unique   Jehovah detested the empty religion of his people (1:10 - 15)

¶Complement   Jehovah called his people to repentance (1:16 - 20)

¶Complement   Jehovah promised to purify his people and restore them to service for Him (1:21 - 31)

¶Opposite   In the Millennial Kingdom, the people of Jehovah and all nations shall serve the Messiah (2:1 - 5)

Conclusion: The sins of Judah made them very weak and leaderless (2:22 - 3:12)

^1:3“‘The ox knows his owner, and the donkey his master's crib; but Israel does not know me, and my people do not consider.’”

^1:4“‘Ah sinful nation, a people heavy with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters. They have forsaken Jehovah; they have provoked the Holy One of Israel to anger; they have gone away backward.

^1:5“‘Why should you be smitten anymore? You will only rebel more and more.’”

¶Opposite   The land of Judah was burned with fire and desolate by foreign invasions (1:5b - 9)

“‘The whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint; ^1:6from the sole of the foot even to the head, there is no soundness in it, but only wounds, bruises, and putrefying sores.

“‘They have not been closed; neither bound up; neither soothed with ointment.’”

^1:7“‘Your country is desolate; your cities are burned with fire. Your land, strangers devour it in your presence, and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers.

^1:8“‘And the daughter of Zion is left as a shelter in a vineyard, as a hut in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city.’”

^1:9“Unless Jehovah of hosts had left a very small remnant to us, we would have been as Sodom, and we would have been like Gomorrah.

§Complement   Body: The people of Judah and Jerusalem had fallen away from Jehovah their God (1:10 - 2:21)

¶Unique   Jehovah detested the empty religion of his people (1:10 - 15)

^1:10Hear the Word of Jehovah, you rulers of Sodom; give ear to the Law of our God, you people of Gomorrah: ^1:11“‘To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices to me?’ says Jehovah. ‘I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bulls, or of lambs, or of male goats.

^1:12“‘When you come to appear before me, who has required this at your hand, to tread my courts?’”

^1:13“‘Bring no more useless offerings; incense is an abomination to me, even the new moons and Sabbaths, and the calling of assemblies. I cannot endure it; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting.

^1:14“‘My soul hates your new moons and your appointed feasts. They are a trouble to me; I am weary to bear them.

^1:15“‘And when you spread forth your hands to pray, I will hide my eyes from you. Moreover, when you make many prayers, I will not hear, because your hands are full of blood.’”

¶Complement   Jehovah called his people to repentance (1:16 - 20)

^1:16“‘Wash yourself, make yourself clean; put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes; cease to do evil; ^1:17learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, and plead for the widow.

^1:18“‘Come now, and let us reason together,’ says Jehovah: ‘Though your sins are as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;

“‘though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.’”

^1:19“‘If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land;

^1:20“‘but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of Jehovah has spoken it.’”

¶Complement   Jehovah promised to purify his people and restore them to service for Him (1:21 - 31)

^1:21“‘How the faithful city has become a prostitute! It was once full of judgment; righteousness lodged in it, but now murderers. ^1:22Your silver has become dross; your wine is mixed with water. ^1:23Your princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves; every one loves bribes, and follows after rewards. They judge not the fatherless; neither does the cause of the widow come unto them.’

^1:24“Therefore the Lord Jehovah of hosts, the Mighty One of Israel says, ‘Ah, I will ease me of my adversaries, and avenge me of my enemies.

^1:25“‘And I will turn my hand upon you, and thoroughly refine away your dross, and take away all your tin; ^1:26and I will restore your judges as at the first, and your counselors as at the beginning.’”

“‘Afterward you shall be called, ‘The city of righteousness, the faithful city.’ ^1:27Zion shall be redeemed with judgment, and her returnees from captivity with righteousness.

^1:28“‘And the destruction of the transgressors and of the sinners shall be together; and they that forsake Jehovah shall be consumed. ^1:29For they shall be ashamed of the oaks that you have desired. And you shall be ashamed for the gardens that you have chosen. ^1:30For you shall be as an oak whose leaf fades, and as a garden that has no water; ^1:31and the strong shall be as tinder, and its maker as a spark; and they shall both burn together, and none shall quench them.’”

¶Opposite   In the Millennial Kingdom, the people of Jehovah and all nations shall serve the Messiah (2:1 - 5)

^2:1The Word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem: ^2:2“And it shall come to pass in the Last Days, that the mountain of the House of Jehovah shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.

^2:3“And many people shall go and say, ‘Come, and let us go up to the mountain of Jehovah, to the House of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths.’

“For out of Zion shall go forth the Law; and the Word of Jehovah from Jerusalem.”

^2:4“And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people;

“and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks. Nation shall not lift up sword against nation; neither shall they learn war anymore.”

¶Opposite   Jehovah shall remove all idols from the world at his Second Coming before the Millennial Kingdom (2:6 - 21)

^2:5“O house of Jacob, come, and let us walk in the light of Jehovah.

^2:6“Therefore you have forsaken your people the house of Jacob, because they are replenished from the east, and are soothsayers like the Philistines, and they please themselves in the children of Gentiles. ^2:7Their land also is full of silver and gold; neither is there any end of their treasures. Their land is also full of horses; neither is there any end of their chariots. ^2:8Their land is also full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made; and the common man bows down, and the great man humbles himself to idols; therefore forgive them not.”

^2:10“Enter into the rock, and hide yourself in the dust, for fear of Jehovah, and for the glory of his majesty. ^2:11The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the arrogance of men shall be bowed down, and Jehovah alone shall be exalted in that day: ^2:12for the Day of Jehovah of hosts shall be upon everyone that is proud and lofty, and upon everyone that is lifted up, and he shall be brought low; ^2:13and upon all the cedars of Lebanon that are high and lifted up, and upon all the oaks of Bashan, ^2:14and upon all the high mountains, and upon all the hills that are lifted up, ^2:15and upon every high tower, and upon every fortified wall, ^2:16and upon all the ships of Tarshish, and upon all pleasant appearances. ^2:17And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the arrogance of men shall be made low; and Jehovah alone shall be exalted in that day. ^2:18And he shall utterly abolish the idols.

^2:19“And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of Jehovah, and for the glory of his majesty, when he arises to shake the earth terribly.

^2:20“In that day a man shall cast his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made each one for himself to worship, unto the moles and to the bats, ^2:21to go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the tops of the ragged rocks, for fear of Jehovah, and for the glory of his majesty, when he arises to shake the earth terribly.”

§Unique   Conclusion: The sins of Judah made them very weak and leaderless (2:22 - 3:12)

^2:22“Cease from man, whose breath is in his nostrils: for why should he be esteemed?

^3:1“For, behold, the Lord Jehovah of hosts is taking away from Jerusalem and from Judah the support and the staff: the whole support of bread, and the whole support of water, ^3:2the mighty man, the man of war, the judge, the prophet, the prudent, the ancient, ^3:3the captain of fifty, the honorable man, the counselor, the cunning artificer, and the eloquent orator.”

^3:4“And I will give children to be their princes, and boys shall rule over them.

^3:5“And the people shall be oppressed, everyone by another, and everyone by his neighbor. The child shall behave himself proudly against the ancient, and the base against the honorable.

^3:6“When a man shall take hold of his brother of the house of his father, saying, ‘You have clothing; therefore, you be our ruler, and let this ruin be under your hand.’ ^3:7In that day shall he swear, saying, ‘I will not be a healer for the nation: for neither bread nor clothing is in my house; make me not a ruler of the people.’”

¶Complement   The people of Judah and Jerusalem were oppressed by bad leaders, because of their own sins (3:8 - 12)

^3:8“For Jerusalem has stumbled, and Judah has fallen, because their tongue and their doings are against Jehovah, to provoke the eyes of his glory. ^3:9The look on their faces witnesses against them, and they declare their sin as brazenly as Sodom; they conceal it not.

“Woe to their soul! For they have rewarded evil to themselves.”

^3:10“Say to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.

^3:11“But woe to the wicked! It shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.

^3:12“As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they who lead you cause you to go astray from Jehovah, and destroy the way of your paths.”

^1:7“‘Vuestro país está desolado; tus ciudades son quemadas con fuego. Vuestra tierra, extraños la devoran delante de ustedes; y está desolada, como asolada por extraños.

^1:8“‘Y la hija de Sión es dejada como un refugio en una viña; como una choza en un jardín de pepinos, como una ciudad sitiada’”.

^1:9“A menos que Jehová de los ejércitos nos hubiera dejado un remanente muy pequeño, hubiésemos sido como Sodoma, y hubiésemos sido como Gomorra”.

^1:13“‘No traigáis más ofrendas inútiles; el incienso me es abominación, aun las lunas nuevas y los sábados, y la convocatoria de asambleas. ¡No puedo soportarlo! Es iniquidad, incluso la reunión solemne.

^1:14“‘Mi alma aborrece vuestras lunas nuevas y vuestras fiestas señaladas; son un problema para mí; estoy cansado de soportarlas.

^1:15“‘Y cuando extiendas tus manos para orar, esconderé mis ojos desde ustedes. Además, cuando ustedes hacen muchas oraciones, no os escucharé, porque vuestras manos están llenas de sangre’”.

¶El complemento   Jehová llamó a su pueblo al arrepentimiento (1:16 - 20)

^1:16“‘Lavaos y limpiaos; quitad la iniquidad de vuestras obras de delante de mis ojos; dejad de hacer lo malo. ^1:17Aprended a hacer el bien; buscad juicio, restituid al agraviado, haced justicia al huérfano, abogad por la viuda.

^1:18“‘Venid luego,’ dice Jehová, ‘y razonemos juntos: aunque vuestros pecados fueren como la grana, como la nieve serán emblanquecidos;

“‘aunque fueren rojos como el carmesí, vendrán a ser como blanca lana’”.

^1:19“‘Si quisiereis y obedeciereis, comeréis el bien de la tierra;

^1:20“‘si no quisiereis y fuereis rebeldes, seréis consumidos a espada: porque la boca de Jehová lo ha dicho’”.

¶El complemento   Jehová prometió purificar a su pueblo y restaurarlos al servicio para él (1:21 - 31)

^1:21“‘¡Cómo se ha convertido en ramera la ciudad fiel! Llena estuvo de juicio, en ella habitó justicia, pero ahora, homicidas. ^1:22Tu plata se ha tornado en escorias, tu vino con agua está mezclado. ^1:23Tus príncipes, son prevaricadores y compañeros de ladrones; todos aman el soborno, y van tras las recompensas; no oyen en juicio al huérfano, ni llega a ellos la causa de la viuda’.

^1:24“Por tanto, dice el Señor Jehová de los ejércitos, el Fuerte de Israel, ‘Ea, tomaré satisfacción de mis enemigos, me vengaré de mis adversarios.

^1:25“‘Y volveré mi mano sobre ti, y limpiaré hasta lo más puro tus escorias, y quitaré todo tu estaño; ^1:26y restituiré tus jueces como al principio, y tus consejeros como de primero’”.

“‘Después tú serás llamado, ‘Ciudad de Justicia, Ciudad Fiel’. ^1:27Sión será redimida con juicio y sus repatriados del cautiverio con justicia.

^1:28“‘Y la destrucción de los transgresores y de los pecadores será junta, y los que dejan a Jehová serán consumidos. ^1:29Entonces os avergonzarán los olmos que amasteis, y os afrentarán los bosques que escogisteis: porque seréis como el olmo al que se le cae la hoja, y como huerto al que le faltan las aguas. Y el fuerte será como estopa, y lo que hizo como centella; y ambos serán encendidos juntamente, y no habrá quien apague’”.

¶Lo opuesto   En el Reino del Milenio, el pueblo de Jehová y todas las naciones servirán al Mesías (2:1 - 5)

^2:1Lo que vio Isaías, hijo de Amoz, tocante a Judá y a Jerusalén: ^2:2“Y acontecerá en lo postrero de los tiempos, que será confirmado el monte de la Casa de Jehová por cabeza de los montes, y será ensalzado sobre los collados, y correrán a él todas las naciones.

^2:3“Y vendrán muchos pueblos, y dirán, ‘Venid, y subamos al monte de Jehová, a la casa del Dios de Jacob; y él nos enseñará en sus caminos, y caminaremos por sus sendas’.

“Porque de Sión saldrá la Ley, y de Jerusalén la Palabra de Jehová”.

^2:4“Y juzgará entre las naciones, y reprenderá a muchos pueblos;

“y volverán sus espadas en rejas de arado, y sus lanzas en hoces; no alzará espada nación contra nación, ni se adiestrarán más para la guerra”.

¶Lo opuesto   Jehová eliminará todos los ídolos del mundo en su Segunda Venida antes del Reino del Milenio (2:6 - 21)

^2:5“Venid, oh casa de Jacob, y caminemos a la luz de Jehová.

^2:6“Ciertamente tú has dejado tu pueblo, la casa de Jacob: porque están llenos de maldades del oriente, y de agoreros, como los filisteos; y hacen pacto con hijos de extranjeros. ^2:7Su tierra está llena de plata y oro, sus tesoros no tienen fin. También está su tierra llena de caballos; sus carros son innumerables. ^2:8Además está su tierra llena de ídolos, y a la obra de sus manos se han arrodillado, a lo que fabricaron sus dedos. ^2:9Y el hombre vil se ha inclinado, y el hombre altivo se ha humillado ante los ídolos; por tanto no los perdones”.

^2:10“Métete en la piedra, escóndete en el polvo, por la presencia temible de Jehová, y por el esplendor de su majestad. ^2:11La altivez de los ojos del hombre será abatida, y la soberbia de los hombres será humillada; y sólo Jehová será exaltado en aquel día: ^2:12porque Día de Jehová de los ejércitos vendrá sobre todo soberbio y altivo, y sobre todo enaltecido; y será abatido; ^2:13sobre todos los cedros del Líbano altos y erguidos, y sobre todas las encinas de Basán. ^2:14Y sobre todos los montes altos, y sobre todos los collados levantados; ^2:15y sobre toda torre alta, y sobre todo muro fuerte; ^2:16y sobre todas las naves de Tarsis, y sobre todas las pinturas preciadas. ^2:17Y la altivez del hombre será abatida, y la soberbia de los hombres será humillada; y sólo Jehová será exaltado en aquel día. ^2:18Y quitará totalmente los ídolos.

^2:19“Y se meterán en las cavernas de las peñas, y en las aberturas de la tierra, por la temible presencia de Jehová, y por el esplendor de su majestad, cuando él se levante para sacudir la tierra.

^2:20“Aquel día arrojará el hombre, a los topos y murciélagos, sus ídolos de plata y sus ídolos de oro, que le hicieron para que adorase; ^2:21y se entrarán en las hendiduras de las rocas y en las cavernas de las peñas, por la temible presencia de Jehová, y por el esplendor de su majestad, cuando él se levante para sacudir la tierra”.

§Único   Conclusión: Los pecados de Judá hicieron al pueblo muy débil y sin buenos líderes (2:22 - 3:12)

¶El complemento   Jehová dio a jóvenes para que gobernaran sobre Judá (2:22 - 3:7)

^2:22“Dejaos del hombre, cuyo aliento está en su nariz: porque ¿de qué es él estimado?

^3:1“Porque he aquí que el Señor Jehová de los ejércitos quita de Jerusalén y de Judá la provisión y el apoyo; toda provisión de pan y todo sustento de agua; ^3:2al valiente y al hombre de guerra, al juez y al profeta, al prudente y al anciano; ^3:3al capitán de cincuenta y al hombre de respeto, al consejero, al artífice excelente y al hábil orador”.

^3:4“Y les pondré jóvenes por príncipes, y muchachos serán sus señores.

^3:5“Y el pueblo sufrirá opresión, los unos de los otros, cada cual contra su vecino; el joven se levantará contra el anciano, y el villano contra el noble.

^3:6“Cuando alguno tomare a su hermano, de la familia de su padre, y le dijere, ‘Tú tienes vestidura, tú serás nuestro príncipe, y estas ruinas estarán bajo tu mando’. ^3:7Él jurará aquel día, diciendo, ‘Yo no seré el sanador: porque en mi casa ni hay pan, ni qué vestir; no me hagáis príncipe del pueblo’”.

¶El complemento   El pueblo de Judá y Jerusalén fue oprimida por malos líderes, debido a sus propios pecados (3:8 - 12)

^3:8“Porque Jerusalén ha tropezado, y Judá ha caído: porque la lengua de ellos y sus obras han sido contra Jehová, para irritar los ojos de su majestad. ^3:9La apariencia de sus rostros testifica contra ellos; como Sodoma publican su pecado, no lo disimulan.

“¡Ay del alma de ellos! Porque se han recompensado al mal hasta ellos mismos”.

^3:10“Decid al justo que le irá bien: porque comerá del fruto de su trabajo.

^3:11“¡Ay del impío! Mal le irá: porque según las obras de sus manos le será pagado.

^3:12“Los opresores de mi pueblo son muchachos, y mujeres se enseñorearon de él. Pueblo mío, los que te guían te engañan, y tuercen el curso de tus caminos”.
