Isaiah, Chapter 1.3: Jehovah will judge the northern Kingdom of Zion (Israel) (7:1 - 12:6)

Introduction: Ahaz king of Judah refused the help and blessing of Jehovah (7:1 - 25))

¶Opposite   Jehovah sent Isaiah to comfort king Ahaz of Judah concerning a pending invasion of Judah by an alliance of Syria and Israel (7:1 - 9)

¶Opposite   Jehovah warned Ahaz about a future invasion of Judah by Babylon (7:10 - 25)

Body: Judah will suffer because of their unbelief in Jehovah, but the Messiah will come to restore the rule of the Kingdom of David (8:1 - 10:34)

¶Unique   The land of Immanuel shall be invaded by the king of Assyria (8:1 - 15)

¶Complement   The Messiah and his children are for signs and wonders in Israel (8:16 - 22)

¶Complement   The Messiah will bring great Light to Galilee of the Gentiles (9:1 - 7)

¶Opposite   The hand of Jehovah is stretched out against Israel in judgment and cut it off permanently (9:8 - 10:4)

¶Opposite   The king of Assyria will attack Judah, but he will be destroyed (10:5 - 34)

Conclusion: In the Millennial Kingdom, Jehovah shall restore Israel to their land, and they will praise Him (11:1 - 12:6)

^7:1And it came to pass in the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up toward Jerusalem to make war against it, but could not prevail against it. ^7:2And it was told the house of David, saying, “Syria is allied with Ephraim.” And his heart was moved, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the wood are moved with the wind.

^7:3Then Jehovah said to Isaiah, “Go forth now to meet Ahaz, you and Shear-jashub your son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the washer's field; ^7:4and say to him, ‘Take heed, and be quiet; fear not; neither be fainthearted for the two tails of these smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of Rezin with Syria, and of the son of Remaliah.

^7:5“‘Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, have taken evil counsel against you, saying, ^7:6‘Let us go up against Judah, and put it in fear; and let us make a breach in it for us, and set a king in its midst, even the son of Tabeal’, ^7:7thus says the Lord Jehovah: ‘It shall not stand; neither shall it come to pass: ^7:8for the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin; and within sixty-five years shall Ephraim be broken, so that it is no longer a people.’”

^7:9“‘And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah's son.

“‘If you will not believe, surely you shall not be established.’”

¶Opposite   Jehovah warned Ahaz about a future invasion of Judah by Babylon (7:10 - 25)

^7:10Moreover Jehovah spoke again to Ahaz, saying, ^7:11“Ask a sign of Jehovah your God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.” ^7:12But Ahaz said, “I will not ask; neither will I tempt Jehovah.”

^7:13And he said, “Hear now, O house of David: is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will you weary my God also? ^7:14Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign: behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a Son, and shall call his Name Immanuel. ^7:15Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good: ^7:16for before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that you abhor shall be forsaken of both her kings. ^7:17Jehovah shall bring upon you, and upon your people, and upon your father's house, days that have not come, from the day that Ephraim departed from Judah: even the king of Assyria.”

^7:18“And it shall come to pass in that day, that Jehovah shall whistle for the fly that is in the uttermost part of the rivers of Egypt, and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria. ^7:19And they shall come, and shall rest all of them in the desolate valleys, and in the holes of the rocks, and upon all thorns, and upon all bushes. ^7:20In the same day the Lord shall shave you with a razor that is hired (namely, by them beyond the Euphrates river, by the king of Assyria) the head and the hair of the feet; and it shall also consume the beard.

^7:21“And it shall come to pass in that day, that a man shall nourish a young cow, and two sheep; ^7:22and it shall come to pass, for the abundance of milk that they shall give shall he eat butter: for butter and honey shall everyone eat that is left in the land.

^7:23“And it shall come to pass in that day, that every place shall be, where there were a thousand vines worth a thousand silver coins, it shall even be for briers and thorns. ^7:24With arrows and with bows shall men come there, because all the land shall become briers and thorns. ^7:25And on all hills that could be dug with the mattock, there shall not come there the fear of briers and thorns; but it shall be for the sending forth of oxen, and for the treading of lesser cattle.”

^8:1Moreover Jehovah said to me, “Take a great roll, and write in it with a man's pen concerning Maher-shalal-hash-baz.” ^8:2And I took faithful witnesses to me to record: Uriah the priest, and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah. ^8:3And I went to the Prophetess; and she conceived, and bore a son.

Then Jehovah said to me, “Call his name Maher-shalal-hash-baz: ^8:4for before the child shall have knowledge to cry, ‘My father and my mother’, the riches of Damascus and the plunder of Samaria shall be taken away before the king of Assyria.”

^8:5Jehovah also spoke to me again, saying, ^8:6“Forasmuch as this people refuse the waters of Shiloh that go softly, and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah's son; ^8:7now therefore, behold, the Lord is bringing up upon them the water of the Euphrates river, strong and many: that is to say, the king of Assyria and all his glory; and he shall come up over all his channels, and go over all his banks; ^8:8and he shall pass through Judah. He shall overflow and go over; he shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of your land, O Immanuel.”

^8:9Associate yourselves, O you people, and you shall be broken in pieces; and give ear, all you of far countries; gird yourselves, and you shall be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and you shall be broken in pieces.

^8:10Take counsel together, and it shall come to nothing; speak the word, and it shall not stand, because God is with us: ^8:11for Jehovah spoke thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying, ^8:12“Say not, ‘A conspiracy’ to all them to whom this people shall say, ‘A conspiracy’; neither fear their fear, nor be afraid. ^8:13Sanctify Jehovah of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread. ^8:14And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a trap and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. ^8:15And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.”

¶Complement   The Messiah and his children are for signs and wonders in Israel (8:16 - 22)

^8:16“Bind up the Testimony; seal the Law among my disciples.

^8:17“And I will wait upon Jehovah, that hides his face from the house of Jacob; and for him will I look.

^8:18“Behold, I and the children whom Jehovah has given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from Jehovah of hosts, who dwells in mount Zion.”

^8:19“And when they shall say to you, ‘Seek to them that have familiar spirits, and to wizards that whisper, and that mutter magic spells’, should not a people seek to their God, rather than to the dead in behalf of the living?

^8:20“To the Law and to the Testimony: if they speak not according to this Word, it is because there is no Light in them. ^8:21And they shall pass through it, harshly treated and hungry; and it shall come to pass, that when they shall be hungry, they shall fret themselves, and curse their king and their God, and look upward. ^8:22And they shall look to the earth; and behold trouble and darkness, and dimness of anguish; and they shall be driven to darkness.”

¶Complement   The Messiah will bring great Light to Galilee of the Gentiles (9:1 - 7)

^9:1“Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulon and the land of Naphtali, and afterward more grievously afflicted her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the Gentiles. ^9:2The people that walked in darkness have seen a great Light; they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them has the Light shined.

^9:3“You have multiplied the nation, but not increased the joy; they joy before you according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the plunder.

^9:4“For you have broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian: ^9:5for every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.”

^9:6“For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his Name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, the mighty God, the Everlasting Father, and the Prince of Peace. ^9:7Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever.

“The zeal of Jehovah of hosts will perform this.”

¶Opposite   The hand of Jehovah is stretched out against Israel in judgment and cut it off permanently (9:8 - 10:4)

^9:8The Lord sent a Word into Jacob, and it has lighted upon Israel: ^9:9“And all the people shall know, even Ephraim and the inhabitant of Samaria, that say in the pride and stoutness of heart, ^9:10‘The bricks are fallen down, but we will build with cut stones; the sycamores are cut down, but we will replace them with cedars.’

^9:11“Therefore Jehovah shall set up the adversaries of Rezin against him, and join his enemies together: ^9:12the Syrians before, and the Philistines behind; and they shall devour Israel with open mouth: for all this his anger has not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

^9:13“For the people do not turn to him that smites them; neither do they seek Jehovah of hosts. ^9:14Therefore Jehovah will cut off from Israel head and tail, palm branch and bulrush, in one day. ^9:15The ancient and honorable, he is the head; and the prophet that teaches lies, he is the tail: ^9:16for the leaders of this people cause them to go astray; and they that are led by them are destroyed. ^9:17Therefore the Lord shall have no joy in their young men; neither shall he have mercy on their fatherless and widows, because every one is a hypocrite and an evildoer, and every mouth speaks foolishness: for all this his anger has not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.”

^9:18“For wickedness burns as the fire; it shall devour the briers and thorns, and shall kindle in the thickets of the forest, and they shall mount up like the lifting up of smoke. ^9:19Through the wrath of Jehovah of hosts is the land darkened, and the people shall be as the fuel of the fire; no man shall spare his brother. ^9:20And he shall snatch on the right hand, and be hungry; and he shall eat on the left hand, and they shall not be satisfied; they shall eat every man the flesh of his own arm: ^9:21Manasseh, Ephraim; and Ephraim, Manasseh; and they together shall be against Judah. For all this his anger has not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

^10:1“Woe to them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed: ^10:2to turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless! ^10:3And what will you do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation that shall come from afar? To whom will you flee for help? And where will you leave your glory? ^10:4Without me they shall bow down under the prisoners, and they shall fall under the slain: for all this his anger has not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.”

¶Opposite   The king of Assyria will attack Judah, but he will be destroyed (10:5 - 34)

^10:5“O Assyrian, you are the rod of my anger; and the staff in their hand is my indignation. ^10:6I will send him against a hypocritical nation; and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the plunder, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mud of the streets. ^10:7Nevertheless he does not mean so; neither does his heart think so, but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off nations not a few: ^10:8for he says, ‘Are not my princes altogether kings? ^10:9Is not Calno as Carchemish? Is not Hamath as Arpad? Is not Samaria as Damascus?’ ^10:10As my hand has found the kingdoms of the idols, and whose carved images excelled them of Jerusalem and of Samaria, ^10:11shall I not, as I have done to Samaria and her idols, also do to Jerusalem and her idols? ^10:12Therefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord has performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks. ^10:13For he says, ‘By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom: for I am prudent. And I have removed the boundaries of the people, and have robbed their treasures; and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man. ^10:14And my hand has found as a nest the riches of the people; and as one gathers eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was no one that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped.’

^10:15“Shall the axe boast itself against him that chops with it? Or shall the saw magnify itself against him that saws with it? As if the rod should wield itself against them that lift it up; or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were not wood. ^10:16Therefore shall the Lord Jehovah of hosts send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory he shall kindle a burning like the burning of a fire. ^10:17And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame; and in one day shall it burn and devour his thorns and his briers, ^10:18and shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body; and they shall be as when a standard-bearer faints. ^10:19And the rest of the trees of his forest shall be few, so that a child may write them.”

^10:20“‘And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no longer again rely upon him that smote them; but shall rely upon Jehovah, the Holy One of Israel, in truth. ^10:21The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God: ^10:22for though your people Israel are as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant of them shall return. The destruction decreed shall overflow with righteousness: ^10:23for the Lord Jehovah of hosts shall make a destruction, even determined, in the midst of all the land.’

^10:24“Therefore thus says the Lord Jehovah of hosts: ‘O my people that dwell in Zion, do not be afraid of the Assyrian. He shall smite you with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against you, after the manner of Egypt: ^10:25for yet a very little while, and the indignation shall cease, and my anger in their destruction. ^10:26And Jehovah of hosts shall stir up a scourge for him according to the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb; and as his rod was upon the Red sea, so shall he lift it up after the manner of Egypt.

^10:27“‘And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off your shoulder, and his yoke from off your neck; and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing. ^10:28He came to Aiath; he passed to Migron; at Michmash he laid up his equipment; ^10:29they went over the passage; they have taken up their lodging at Geba; Ramah is afraid; Gibeah of Saul has fled. ^10:30Lift up your voice, O daughter of Gallim; cause it to be heard at Laish, O poor Anathoth. ^10:31Madmenah is removed; the inhabitants of Gebim gather themselves to flee. ^10:32As yet shall he remain at Nob that day; he shall shake his hand against the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem. ^10:33Behold, the Lord Jehovah of hosts shall lop the bough with terror; and the high ones of stature shall be cut down, and the arrogant shall be humbled. ^10:34And he shall cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, and Lebanon shall fall by a mighty one.’”

And he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes; neither reprove after the hearing of his ears; ^11:4but with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth. And he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth; and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked. ^11:5And righteousness shall be the belt of his waist, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins. ^11:6The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fattened calf shall lie down together; and a little child shall lead them. ^11:7And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. ^11:8And the nursing child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the viper's den. ^11:9They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of Jehovah, as the water covers the sea.

^11:10“And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, that shall stand for an ensign of the people; to him shall the Gentiles seek, and his rest shall be glorious.”

^11:11“And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, who shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea. ^11:12And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.

^11:13“The envy also of Ephraim shall depart, and the adversaries of Judah shall be cut off; Ephraim shall not envy Judah, and Judah shall not oppress Ephraim. ^11:14But they shall fly upon the shoulders of the Philistines toward the west. They shall plunder them of the east together. They shall lay their hand upon Edom and Moab, and the children of Ammon shall obey them.

^11:15“And Jehovah shall utterly destroy the tongue of the Egyptian sea; and with his mighty wind shall he shake his hand over the river, and shall smite it in the seven streams, and make men go over in sandals. ^11:16And there shall be a highway for the remnant of his people, who shall be left, from Assyria, like as it was to Israel in the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt.”

^12:1“And in that day you shall say, ‘O Jehovah, I will praise you; though you were angry with me, your anger has turned away; and you comfort me.

^12:2“Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for JAH Jehovah is my strength and my song; he also has become my salvation.’ ^12:3Therefore with joy shall you draw water out of the wells of salvation.”

^12:4“And in that day you shall say, ‘Praise Jehovah; call upon his Name; declare his doings among the people; make mention that his Name is exalted.

^12:5“‘Sing to Jehovah: for he has done excellent things; this is known in all the earth.’

^12:6“Cry out and shout, you inhabitant of Zion: for great is the Holy One of Israel in your midst!”

^7:5“‘Porque Siria, Efraín, y el hijo de Remalías, han acordado maligno consejo contra ti, diciendo, ^7:6‘Subamos contra Judá, y aterroricémosla, y hagamos una brecha para nosotros, y pondremos en medio de ella por rey al hijo de Tabeel’. ^7:7El Señor Jehová dice así, ‘No prevalecerá, ni sucederá: ^7:8porque la cabeza de Siria es Damasco, y la cabeza de Damasco, Rezín; y dentro de sesenta y cinco años Efraín será quebrantado hasta dejar de ser pueblo’”.

^7:9“‘Y la cabeza de Efraín es Samaria, y la cabeza de Samaria es el hijo de Remalías.

“‘Si ustedes no creyereis, ciertamente no seréis establecidos’”.

^7:18“Y acontecerá que aquel día silbará Jehová a la mosca que está en el fin de los ríos de Egipto, y a la abeja que está en la tierra de Asiria. ^7:19Y vendrán, y se asentarán todos en los valles desiertos, y en las cavernas de las piedras, y en todos los zarzales, y en todas las matas. ^7:20En aquel día raerá el Señor con navaja alquilada, con los que habitan al otro lado del río, es decir, con el rey de Asiria, cabeza y pelo de los pies; y aun la barba también quitará.

^7:21“Y acontecerá en aquel tiempo, que un hombre criará una vaca y dos ovejas; ^7:22y será que a causa de la abundancia de leche que darán, comerá mantequilla; pues mantequilla y miel comerá el que quedare en medio de la tierra.

^7:23“Acontecerá también en aquel tiempo, que el lugar donde había mil vides que valían mil siclos de plata, será para los espinos y cardos. ^7:24Con saetas y arco irán allá: porque toda la tierra será espinos y cardos. ^7:25Y a todos los montes que se cavaban con azadón, no llegará allá el temor de los espinos y de los cardos; pero serán para pasto de bueyes, y para ser hollados de los ganados”.

§El complemento   Cuerpo: Judá sufrirá debido a su incredulidad en Jehová, pero el Mesías vendrá a restaurar el gobierno del Reino de David (8:1 - 10:34)

¶Único   La tierra de Emanuel será invadida por el rey de Asiria (8:1 - 15)

^8:1Y me dijo Jehová, “Toma una tabla grande, y escribe en ella en estilo de hombre tocante a Maher-salal-has-baz”. ^8:2Y tomé conmigo como testigos fieles para que confirmaran, al sacerdote Urías y a Zacarías hijo de Jeberequías. ^8:3Y me allegué a la profetisa, la cual concibió y dio a luz un hijo.

Y a me dijo Jehová, “Ponle por nombre Maher-salal-has-baz: ^8:4porque antes que el niño sepa decir, ‘Padre mío, y madre mía’, será quitada la fuerza de Damasco y los despojos de Samaria, en la presencia del rey de Asiria”.

^8:5Otra vez volvió Jehová a hablarme, diciendo, ^8:6“Por cuanto este pueblo desechó las aguas de Siloé, que corren mansamente, y se regocijó con Rezín y con el hijo de Remalías, ^8:7por tanto, he aquí que el Señor hace subir sobre ellos aguas de ríos, impetuosas y muchas, a saber, al rey de Asiria con todo su poder; el cual subirá sobre todos sus ríos, y pasará sobre todas sus riberas; ^8:8y pasando hasta Judá, inundará y seguirá adelante, y llegará hasta el cuello; y extendiendo sus alas, llenará la anchura de tu tierra, oh Emmanuel”.

^8:9Reuníos, pueblos, y seréis quebrantados; oíd, todos los que sois de lejanas tierras; ceñíos, y seréis quebrantados; apercibíos, y seréis quebrantados.

^8:10Tomad consejo, y será frustrado; proferid palabra, y no será firme: porque Dios está con nosotros: ^8:11porque Jehová me habló así con mano fuerte, y me enseñó que no caminase por el camino de este pueblo, diciendo, ^8:12“No llaméis conspiración a todas las cosas a que este pueblo llame conspiración, ni temáis lo que ellos temen, ni tengáis miedo. ^8:13Santificad a Jehová de los ejércitos él mismo; y deja que él sea tu temor, y deja que él sea tu pavor. ^8:14Entonces él será por santuario; pero a las dos casas de Israel por piedra para tropezar, y por tropezadero para caer, y por lazo y por red a los moradores de Jerusalén. ^8:15Y muchos tropezarán entre ellos, y caerán, y serán quebrantados; se enredarán, y serán apresados”.

¶El complemento   El Mesías y sus niños son para señales y maravillas en Israel (8:16 - 22)

^8:16“Ata el testimonio, sella la Ley entre mis discípulos.

^8:17“Esperaré, pues, en Jehová, el cual escondió su rostro de la casa de Jacob; y para él voy a mirar.

^8:18“He aquí, yo y los hijos que me dio Jehová, por señales y prodigios en Israel, de parte de Jehová de los ejércitos que mora en el monte de Sión”.

^8:19“Y cuando os dijeren, ‘Consultad a los que evocan a los muertos y a los adivinos, que susurran y murmuran conjuros’, ¿no consultará el pueblo a su Dios? ¿Consultará a los muertos por los vivos?

^8:20“A la Ley y al Testimonio: si no dijeren conforme a esto, es porque no les ha amanecido. ^8:21Y pasarán por la tierra fatigados y hambrientos, y acontecerá que teniendo hambre, se enojarán y maldecirán a su rey y a su Dios, levantando el rostro en alto. ^8:22Y mirarán a la tierra, y he aquí tribulación y tinieblas, oscuridad y angustia; y serán lanzados a las tinieblas”.

¶El complemento   El Mesías traerá gran luz a Galilea de los gentiles (9:1 - 7)

^9:1“Aunque no será esta oscuridad tal como fue en su angustia, cuando al principio él levemente afligió la tierra de Zabulón y la tierra de Neftalí; y después más gravemente los afligió por el camino del mar, al otro lado del Jordán, en Galilea de los gentiles. ^9:2El pueblo que andaba en tinieblas vio gran luz; los que moraban en tierra de sombra de muerte, luz resplandeció sobre ellos.

^9:3“Aumentando la gente, no aumentaste la alegría. Se alegrarán delante de ti como se alegran en la siega, como se gozan cuando reparten despojos.

^9:4“Porque tú quebraste su pesado yugo, y la vara de su hombro, y el cetro de su opresor, como en el día de Madián: ^9:5porque toda batalla de quien pelea es con estruendo, y con vestidura revolcada en sangre; pero esto será para quema, y combustible para el fuego”.

^9:6“Porque un niño nos es nacido, un hijo nos es dado; y el principado será sobre su hombro; y se llamará su Nombre Admirable, Consejero, Dios Fuerte, Padre Eterno, Príncipe de Paz. ^9:7Del aumento de su gobierno y su paz no habrá fin, sobre el trono de David y sobre su reino, arreglarlo y para establecerlo con juicio y con justicia desde ahora y para siempre.

“El celo de Jehová de los ejércitos hará esto”.

¶Lo opuesto   La mano de Jehová se extiende contra Israel en juicio y la cortará permanentemente (9:8 - 10:4)

^9:8El Señor envió Palabra a Jacob, y cayó en Israel, ^9:9“Y la sabrá todo el pueblo, Efraín y los moradores de Samaria, que con soberbia y con altivez de corazón dicen, ^9:10‘Los ladrillos cayeron, pero edificaremos de cantería; cortaron los sicómoros, pero en su lugar pondremos cedros’.

^9:11“Por tanto Jehová levantará a los enemigos de Rezín contra él, y juntará sus enemigos; ^9:12del oriente los sirios, y los filisteos del poniente; y con su boca devorarán a Israel. Ni con todo eso ha cesado su furor, pero su mano todavía está extendida.

^9:13“Pero el pueblo no se convirtió al que lo hería, ni buscaron a Jehová de los ejércitos. ^9:14Y Jehová cortará de Israel cabeza y cola, rama y caña en un mismo día. ^9:15El viejo y venerable de rostro es la cabeza; el profeta que enseña mentira, es la cola: ^9:16porque los gobernadores de este pueblo son engañadores; y sus gobernados, perdidos. ^9:17Por tanto, el Señor no tomará contentamiento en sus jóvenes, ni de sus huérfanos y viudas tendrá misericordia: porque todos son falsos y malignos, y toda boca habla necedades. Con todo esto no ha cesado su furor, pero su mano todavía está extendida”.

^9:18“Porque la maldad se encendió como fuego, cardos y espinos devorará; y se encenderá en lo espeso del bosque, y serán alzados como columna de humo. ^9:19Por la ira de Jehová de los ejércitos se oscureció la tierra, y será el pueblo como combustible para el fuego; el hombre no tendrá piedad de su hermano. ^9:20Cada uno hurtará a la mano derecha, y tendrá hambre; y comerá a la izquierda, y no se saciará; cada cual comerá la carne de su propio brazo: ^9:21Manasés a Efraín, y Efraín a Manasés, y ambos contra Judá. Ni con todo esto ha cesado su furor, pero su mano todavía está extendida.

^10:1“¡Ay de los que decretan leyes injustas, y escriben tiranía que ellos han prescrito, ^10:2para apartar del juicio a los pobres, y para quitar el derecho a los afligidos de mi pueblo; para despojar a las viudas, y robar a los huérfanos! ^10:3¿Y qué haréis en el día de la visitación? ¿A quién os acogeréis para que os ayude, cuando viniere de lejos el asolamiento? ¿Y en dónde dejaréis vuestra gloria? ^10:4Sin mí se inclinarán entre los presos, y entre los muertos caerán. Ni con todo esto ha cesado su furor, pero su mano todavía está extendida”.

¶Lo opuesto   El rey de Asiria atacará a Judá, pero será destruido (10:5 - 34)

^10:5“Oh Asiria, vara y bordón de mi furor; en su mano he puesto mi ira. ^10:6Le mandaré contra una nación impía, y contra el pueblo de mi ira le enviaré, para que quite despojos, y arrebate presa, y lo ponga para ser hollado como lodo de las calles. ^10:7Aunque él no lo pensará así, ni su corazón lo imaginará de esta manera; sino que su pensamiento será desarraigar y cortar naciones no pocas: ^10:8porque él dice, ‘Mis príncipes, ¿no son todos reyes? ^10:9¿No es Calno como Carquemis, Hamat como Arfad, y Samaria como Damasco?’ ^10:10Como halló mi mano los reinos de los ídolos, siendo sus imágenes más que las de Jerusalén y de Samaria; ^10:11como hice a Samaria y a sus ídolos, ¿no haré también así a Jerusalén y a sus ídolos? ^10:12Pero acontecerá que después que el Señor hubiere acabado toda su obra en el monte de Sión, y en Jerusalén, visitaré sobre el fruto de la soberbia del corazón del rey de Asiria, y sobre la gloria de la altivez de sus ojos: ^10:13porque dijo, ‘Con el poder de mi mano lo he hecho, y con mi sabiduría: porque he sido prudente; y quité los términos de los pueblos, y saqué sus tesoros, y como hombre valiente derribé a sus habitantes. ^10:14Y halló mi mano como nido las riquezas de los pueblos; y como se recogen los huevos abandonados, así me apoderé yo de toda la tierra; y no hubo quien moviese ala, o abriese boca y graznase’.

^10:15“¿El hacha se jactará misma contra el que corta con ella? ¿O la sierra se engrandecerá misma contra el que asierra con ella? ¡Como si la vara pudiera blandir misma contra los que lo levanta! ¡Como si se levantase la vara como si no fuese leño! ^10:16Por tanto el Señor Jehová de los ejércitos enviará flaqueza sobre sus gordos; y debajo de su gloria encenderá una hoguera como ardor de fuego. ^10:17Y la luz de Israel será por fuego, y su Santo por llama, que abrase y consuma en un día sus cardos y sus espinos. ^10:18Consumirá la gloria de su bosque y de su campo fértil, desde el alma hasta la carne; y vendrá a ser como abanderado en derrota. ^10:19Y los árboles que quedaren en su bosque, serán en número que un niño los pueda contar”.

^10:20“‘Y acontecerá en aquel tiempo, que los que hubieren quedado de Israel, y los que hubieren quedado de la casa de Jacob, nunca más se apoyarán en el que los hirió; sino que se apoyarán con verdad en Jehová el Santo de Israel. ^10:21El remanente volverá, el remanente de Jacob volverá al Dios poderoso: ^10:22porque si tu pueblo, oh Israel, fuere como las arenas del mar, el remanente de él volverá; la destrucción acordada rebosará justicia. ^10:23Pues el Señor, Jehová de los ejércitos hará consumación, ya determinada, en medio de la tierra’.

^10:24“Por tanto el Señor, Jehová de los ejércitos dice así, ‘Pueblo mío, morador de Sión, no temas de Asiria. Con vara te herirá, y contra ti alzará su bordón, a la manera de Egipto; ^10:25pero de aquí a muy poco tiempo, se acabará el furor y mi enojo, para destrucción de ellos. ^10:26Y Jehová de los ejércitos levantará azote contra él, como en la matanza de Madián en la peña de Oreb; y alzará su vara sobre el mar, como en Egipto.

^10:27“‘Y acontecerá en aquel tiempo, que su carga será quitada de tu hombro, y su yugo de tu cerviz, y el yugo será destruido por causa de la unción. ^10:28Vino hasta Ajat, pasó hasta Migrón; en Micmas contará su ejército; ^10:29pasaron el vado; alojaron en Geba; Ramá tembló; Gabaa de Saúl huyó. ^10:30Grita en alta voz, hija de Galim; haz que se oiga hacia Lais, pobrecilla Anatot. ^10:31Madmena se alborotó; los moradores de Gebim se juntaron para huir. ^10:32Aún vendrá día cuando reposará en Nob; alzará su mano contra el monte de la hija de Sión, al collado de Jerusalén. ^10:33He aquí el Señor Jehová de los ejércitos desgajará el ramaje con violencia; y los de grande altura serán cortados, y los altos serán humillados. ^10:34Y cortará con hierro la espesura del bosque, y el Líbano caerá ante un poderoso’”.

§El complemento   Conclusión: En el Reino del Milenio, Jehová restaurará a Israel a su tierra, y ellos le alabarán (11:1 - 12:6)

¶El complemento   En el Reino del Milenio, Jehová traerá el remanente de su pueblo a la tierra de Israel (11:1 - 16)

^11:1“Y saldrá una vara del tronco de Isaí, y un vástago retoñará de sus raíces. ^11:2Y reposará sobre él el Espíritu de Jehová; espíritu de sabiduría y de inteligencia, espíritu de consejo y de poder, espíritu de conocimiento y de temor de Jehová. ^11:3Y le hará entender diligente en el temor de Jehová. No juzgará según la vista de sus ojos, ni argüirá por lo que oyeren sus oídos; ^11:4sino que juzgará con justicia a los pobres, y argüirá con equidad por los mansos de la tierra; y herirá la tierra con la vara de su boca, y con el espíritu de sus labios matará al impío. ^11:5Y la justicia será el cinto de sus lomos, y la fidelidad el ceñidor de sus riñones. ^11:6Morará el lobo con el cordero, y el leopardo con el cabrito se acostará; el becerro y el león y la bestia doméstica andarán juntos, y un niño los pastoreará. ^11:7La vaca y la osa pacerán, sus crías se echarán juntas; y el león como el buey comerá paja. ^11:8Y el niño de pecho jugará sobre la cueva del áspid, y el recién destetado extenderá su mano sobre la caverna de la serpiente. ^11:9No harán mal ni dañarán en todo mi santo monte: porque la tierra será llena del conocimiento de Jehová, como las aguas cubren el mar.

^11:10“Y acontecerá en aquel tiempo que la raíz de Isaí, la cual estará puesta por pendón a las naciones, será buscada de los gentiles; y su reposo será glorioso”.

^11:11“Y acontecerá en aquel tiempo, que Jehová volverá a extender su mano, por segunda vez, para recobrar el remanente de su pueblo que haya quedado de Asiria, de Egipto, de Patros, de Etiopía, de Elam, de Sinar, de Hamat y de las islas del mar. ^11:12Y levantará pendón a las naciones, y juntará los desterrados de Israel, y reunirá los esparcidos de Judá de los cuatro extremos de la tierra.

^11:13“Y se disipará la envidia de Efraín, y los enemigos de Judá serán talados. Efraín no tendrá envidia de Judá, ni Judá afligirá a Efraín; ^11:14pero volarán sobre los hombros de los filisteos al occidente, saquearán también a los del oriente. Edom y Moab les servirán, y los hijos de Amón les obedecerán.

^11:15“Y secará Jehová la lengua del mar de Egipto; y con su fuerte viento agitará su mano sobre el río, y lo herirá en sus siete brazos, y hará que pasen por él con sandalias. ^11:16Y habrá camino para el remanente de su pueblo, que haya quedado de Asiria, de la manera que lo hubo para Israel el día que subió de la tierra de Egipto”.

¶El complemento   En el Reino del Milenio, el pueblo de Israel cantará y alabará a Jehová su Dios en medio de ellos (12:1 - 6)

^12:1“Y dirás en aquel día, ‘Cantaré a ti, oh Jehová; pues aunque te enojaste contra mí, tu ira se apartó, y me has consolado.

^12:2“He aquí, Dios es mi salvación; confiaré, y no temeré: porque mi fortaleza y mi canción es JAH Jehová, el cual ha sido mi salvación’. ^12:3Por tanto, con gozo sacaréis aguas de las fuentes de la salvación”.

^12:4“Y diréis en aquel día, ‘Cantad a Jehová, aclamad su Nombre, haced célebres en los pueblos sus obras, recordad que su Nombre es engrandecido.

^12:5“Cantad salmos a Jehová: porque ha hecho cosas magníficas; sea sabido esto por toda la tierra’.

^12:6“¡Regocíjate y canta, oh moradora de Sión: porque grande es en medio de ti el Santo de Israel!”.
