^13:1The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw: ^13:2“Lift up a banner upon the high mountain; exalt the voice to them; shake the hand, that they may go into the gates of the nobles. ^13:3I have commanded my sanctified ones; I have also called my mighty ones for my anger, even them that rejoice in my highness. ^13:4The noise of a multitude in the mountains, like as of a great people: a tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together; Jehovah of hosts musters the army of the battle. ^13:5They come from a far country, from the end of Heaven, even Jehovah and the weapons of his indignation to destroy the whole land.

^13:6“Howl! For the Day of Jehovah is near; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty. ^13:7Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man's heart shall melt; ^13:8and they shall be afraid. Pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travails; they shall be astonished one at another; their faces shall be as flames.

^13:9“‘Behold, the Day of Jehovah is coming, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate; and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it: ^13:10for the stars of heaven and its constellations shall not give their light; the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine. ^13:11And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogance of the proud to cease, and will lay low the arrogance of the dreadful. ^13:12I will make a man more precious than fine gold: even a man more precious than the golden wedge of Ophir. ^13:13Therefore will I shake the heavens; and the earth shall move out of her place, in the wrath of Jehovah of hosts, and in the Day of his fierce anger. ^13:14And it shall be as the chased gazelle, and as a sheep that no man gathers; they shall turn every man to his own people, and flee everyone into his own land. ^13:15Every one that is found shall be thrust through; and everyone that is joined to them shall fall by the sword. ^13:16Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be plundered, and their wives ravished.”

^13:17“Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, who shall not regard silver; and as for gold, they shall not delight in it. ^13:18Their bows also shall dash the young men to pieces; and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eye shall not spare children. ^13:19And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees' excellence, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. ^13:20It shall never be inhabited; neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation; neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there; neither shall the shepherds make their fold there. ^13:21But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there. ^13:22And the wild beasts of the islands shall cry in their desolate houses, and dragons in their pleasant palaces; and her time is near to come, and her days shall not be prolonged.

^14:1“For Jehovah will have mercy on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in their own land; and the strangers shall be joined with them, and they shall be added to the house of Jacob. ^14:2And the people shall take them, and bring them to their place; and the house of Israel shall possess them in the land of Jehovah for menservants and maidservants; and they shall take them captives, whose captives they were; and they shall rule over their oppressors. ^14:3And it shall come to pass in the day that Jehovah shall give you rest from your sorrow, and from your fear, and from the hard slavery in which you were made to serve, ^14:4that you shall take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, ‘How has the oppressor ceased! And the golden city ceased! ^14:5Jehovah has broken the staff of the wicked, and the scepter of the rulers. ^14:6He who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, and no one hinders.’ ^14:7The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet; they break forth into singing. ^14:8Moreover, the fir trees rejoice at you, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying, ‘Since you were laid down, no woodcutter has come up against us.’ ^14:9Hell from beneath has moved for you to meet you at your coming; it stirs up the dead for you, even all the chief ones of the earth; it has raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations. ^14:10All they shall speak and say to you, ‘Have you also become weak as we? Have you become like us? ^14:11Your pomp is brought down to Hell, and the noise of your harps; the worm is spread under you, and the worms cover you.’”

¶Opposite   Jehovah will restore Israel to their own land (14:12 - 32)

^14:12“How have you fallen from Heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How have you been cut down to the ground, who weakened the nations! ^14:13For you have said in your heart, ‘I will ascend into Heaven; I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north; ^14:14I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High God.’

^14:15“Yet you shall be brought down to Hell, to the sides of the Pit. ^14:16They that see you shall narrowly look upon you, and consider you, saying, ‘Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that shook kingdoms, ^14:17that made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed its cities, that would not open the house of his prisoners?’ ^14:18All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in glory, everyone in his own house. ^14:19But you are cast out of your grave like an abominable branch, and as the garment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the Pit; as a corpse trampled under foot. ^14:20You shall not be joined with them in burial, because you have destroyed your land, and slain your people; the seed of evildoers shall never be named.”

^14:21“‘Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers, so that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities: ^14:22for I will rise up against them,’ says Jehovah of hosts, ‘and cut off from Babylon the name, and remnant, and son, and nephew,’ says Jehovah. ^14:23‘I will also make it a possession for the bittern, and pools of water; and I will sweep it with the broom of destruction,’ says Jehovah of hosts.”

^14:24“Jehovah of hosts has sworn, saying, ‘Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand: ^14:25that I will break the Assyrian in my land, and upon my mountains tread him under foot. Then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders. ^14:26This is the purpose that is purposed upon the whole earth; and this is the hand that is stretched out upon all the nations: ^14:27for Jehovah of hosts has purposed, and who shall annul it? And his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?’”

^14:28In the year that king Ahaz died was this burden: ^14:29“Rejoice not, whole Philistia, because the rod of him that smote you is broken: for out of the serpent's root shall come forth a viper, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent. ^14:30And the firstborn of the poor shall feed, and the needy shall lie down in safety; and I will kill your root with famine, and he shall slay your remnant. ^14:31Howl, O gate. Cry, O city. You, whole Philistia, are dissolved: for a smoke shall come from the north; and no one shall be alone in his appointed times. ^14:32What shall one then answer the messengers of the nation? That Jehovah has founded Zion, and the poor of his people shall trust in it.”

¶Opposite   Jehovah will destroy Moab and Syria by the hand of the Babylonians (15:1 - 18:7)

^15:1The burden of Moab: “Because in the night Ar of Moab is laid waste, and brought to silence; because in the night Kir of Moab was laid waste, and brought to silence; ^15:2he has gone up to Bajith, and to Dibon, the high places, to weep. Moab shall howl over Nebo, and over Medeba; on all their heads shall be baldness, and every beard cut off. ^15:3In their streets they shall gird themselves with sackcloth; on the tops of their houses, and in their streets, everyone shall howl, weeping abundantly. ^15:4And Heshbon shall cry, and Elealeh; their voice shall be heard even to Jahaz; therefore the armed soldiers of Moab shall cry out; his life shall be grievous to him. ^15:5My heart shall cry out for Moab; his fugitives shall flee to Zoar, a heifer of three years old: for by the mounting up of Luhith with weeping shall they go up: for in the way of Horonaim they shall raise up a cry of destruction: ^15:6for the waters of Nimrim shall be desolate: for the hay is withered away, the grass fails, and nothing is green. ^15:7Therefore the abundance they have acquired, and that which they have laid up, shall they carry away to the brook of the willows: ^15:8for the cry has gone round about the borders of Moab; the howling of it to Eglaim, and the howling of it to Beer-elim: ^15:9for the waters of Dimon shall be full of blood: for I will bring more upon Dimon, even lions upon him that escapes of Moab, and upon the remnant of the land.

^16:1“Send the lamb to the ruler of the land from Sela to the wilderness, to the mount of the daughter of Zion: ^16:2for it shall be, that, as a wandering bird is cast out of the nest, so shall the daughters of Moab be at the fords of Arnon. ^16:3Take counsel; execute judgment; make your shadow as the night in the midst of the noonday; hide the outcasts; do not betray him that wanders. ^16:4Let my outcasts dwell with you, O Moab; be a shelter to them from the face of the plunderer: for the extortionist is at an end, the plunderer ceases, and the oppressors are consumed out of the land. ^16:5And in mercy shall the throne be established; and he shall sit upon it in truth in the Tabernacle of David: judging, seeking judgment, and hastening righteousness. ^16:6We have heard of the pride of Moab (he is very proud), even of his arrogance, his pride, and his wrath; but his lies shall not be so. ^16:7Therefore shall Moab howl for Moab; every one shall howl. You shall mourn for the foundations of Kir-hareseth; surely they are afflicted: ^16:8for the fields of Heshbon and the vine of Sibmah languishes. The lords of the heathen have broken down its principal plants; they have come even to Jazer. They wandered through the wilderness; her branches are stretched out; they went over the sea. ^16:9Therefore I will bewail with the weeping of Jazer the vine of Sibmah. I will water you with my tears, O Heshbon and Elealeh: for the shouting for your summer fruits and for your harvest has fallen. ^16:10And gladness is taken away, and joy out of the plentiful field; and in the vineyards there shall be no singing; neither shall there be shouting. The treaders shall tread out no wine in their presses; I have made their vintage shouting to cease. ^16:11Therefore my bowels shall sound like a harp for Moab, and my inward parts for Kir-haresh. ^16:12And it shall come to pass, when it is seen that Moab is weary on the high place, that he shall come to his sanctuary to pray; but he shall not prevail.”

^16:13This is the Word that Jehovah has spoken concerning Moab since that time. ^16:14But now Jehovah has spoken, saying, “Within three years, as the years of a hireling, and the glory of Moab shall be despised, with all that great multitude; and the remnant shall be very small and feeble.”

^17:1The burden of Damascus: “‘Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruined heap. ^17:2The cities of Aroer are forsaken; they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and no one shall make them afraid. ^17:3The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus; and the remnant of Syria, they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel,’ says Jehovah of hosts. ^17:4‘And in that day it shall come to pass, that the glory of Jacob shall be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh shall become lean. ^17:5And it shall be as when the harvestman gathers the grain, and reaps the ears with his arm; and it shall be as he that gathers ears in the valley of Rephaim. ^17:6Yet gleaning grapes shall be left in it, as the shaking of an olive tree, two or three berries in the top of the uppermost bough, four or five in its outmost fruitful branches,’ says Jehovah God of Israel. ^17:7‘At that day shall a man look to his Maker, and his eyes shall have respect to the Holy One of Israel. ^17:8And he shall not look to the altars, the work of his hands; neither shall he respect that which his fingers have made: neither the images of Asherah, nor the images of Baal. ^17:9In that day shall his strong cities be as a forsaken bough, and an uppermost branch, which they left because of the children of Israel; and there shall be desolation. ^17:10Because you have forgotten the God of your salvation, and have not been mindful of the Rock of your strength, therefore shall you plant pleasant plants, and shall set it with strange twigs. ^17:11In the day you shall make your plant to grow, and in the morning you shall make your seed to flourish; but the harvest shall be a heap in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow. ^17:12Woe to the multitude of many people, who make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty water! ^17:13The nations shall rush like the rushing of great water; but God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far away, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like chaff in the whirlwind. ^17:14And behold at evening trouble; and before the morning he is not. This is the portion of them that plunder us, and the lot of them that rob us. ^18:1Woe to the land shadowing with wings, which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia, ^18:2that sends ambassadors by the sea, even in vessels of bulrushes upon the water, saying, ‘Go, you swift messengers, to a nation strong and fierce, to a people dreadful from their beginning until now: a very strong and treading-down nation, whose land the rivers divide!’”

^18:3All you inhabitants of the world, and dwellers on the earth, see, when he lifts up an ensign on the mountains; and when he blows a trumpet, hear: ^18:4for so Jehovah said to me: “I will take my rest, and I will consider in my dwelling place like a clear heat upon herbs, and like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest: ^18:5for before the harvest, when the bud is perfect, and the sour grape ripens in the flower, he shall both cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks, and take away and cut down the branches. ^18:6They shall be left together to the birds of the mountains, and to the beasts of the earth; and the birds shall summer upon them, and all the beasts of the earth shall winter upon them. ^18:7In that time shall a present be brought to Jehovah of hosts from a people strong and fierce, and from a people dreadful from their beginning until now: a very strong and treading-down nation, whose land the rivers divide, to the place of the Name of Jehovah of hosts, the mount Zion.”

¶Opposite   Jehovah will destroy Egypt by the hand of the Babylonians (19:1 - 20:6)

^19:1The burden of Egypt: “‘Behold, Jehovah rides upon a swift cloud, and shall come into Egypt; and the idols of Egypt shall tremble at his presence, and the heart of Egypt shall melt in its midst. ^19:2And I will set the Egyptians against the Egyptians; and they shall fight every one against his brother, and every one against his neighbor: city against city, and kingdom against kingdom. ^19:3And the spirit of Egypt shall fail in its midst; and I will destroy its counsel; and they shall seek to the idols, and to the ventriloquists, and to them that have familiar spirits, and to the wizards. ^19:4And the Egyptians will I give over into the hand of a cruel lord; and a fierce king shall rule over them,’ says the Lord Jehovah of hosts. ^19:5‘And the water shall fail from the sea, and the river shall be wasted and dried up. ^19:6And they shall turn the rivers far away; and the brooks of defense shall be emptied and dried up: the reeds and flags shall wither. ^19:7The paper reeds by the brooks, by the mouth of the brooks, and everything sown by the brooks, shall wither, be driven away, and be no more. ^19:8The fishermen also shall mourn, and all they that cast a hook into the brooks shall lament, and they that spread nets upon the water shall languish. ^19:9Moreover, they that work in fine flax, and they that weave networks, shall be ashamed. ^19:10And they shall be broken in its purposes, all that make sluices and ponds for fish. ^19:11Surely the princes of Zoan are fools, the counsel of the wise advisors of Pharaoh has become foolish. How do you say to Pharaoh, ‘I am the son of the wise, the son of ancient kings’? ^19:12Where are they? Where are your wise men? And let them tell you now, and let them know what Jehovah of hosts has purposed upon Egypt. ^19:13The princes of Zoan have become fools; the princes of Noph are deceived; they have also seduced Egypt, even they that are the defense of its tribes. ^19:14Jehovah has mingled a perverse spirit in its midst; and they have caused Egypt to stumble in every work of it, as a drunken man staggers in his vomit. ^19:15Neither shall there be any work for Egypt, which the head or tail, branch or rush, may do.

^19:16“‘In that day shall Egypt be like women; and it shall be afraid and fear because of the shaking of the hand of Jehovah of hosts, which he shakes over it. ^19:17And the land of Judah shall be a terror to Egypt; everyone that makes mention of it shall be afraid in himself, because of the counsel of Jehovah of hosts, which he has determined against it.”

^19:18“‘In that day shall five cities in the land of Egypt speak the language of Canaan, and swear to Jehovah of hosts; one shall be called, ‘The city of destruction.’

^19:19“‘In that day there shall be an altar to Jehovah in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar at its border to Jehovah. ^19:20And it shall be for a sign and for a witness to Jehovah of hosts in the land of Egypt: for they shall cry to Jehovah because of the oppressors; and he shall send them a savior, and a great one, and he shall deliver them. ^19:21And Jehovah shall be known to Egypt, and the Egyptians shall know Jehovah in that day, and shall do sacrifice and oblation; moreover, they shall vow a vow to Jehovah, and perform it. ^19:22And Jehovah shall smite Egypt; he shall smite and heal it; and they shall return to Jehovah, and he shall be entreated of them, and shall heal them. ^19:23In that day shall there be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian shall come into Egypt, and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the Egyptians shall serve with the Assyrians. ^19:24In that day shall Israel be the third with Egypt and with Assyria, even a blessing in the midst of the land, ^19:25whom Jehovah of hosts shall bless, saying, ‘Blessed be Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel my inheritance.’’”

^20:1In the year that Tartan came to Ashdod (when Sargon the king of Assyria sent him); and he fought against Ashdod, and took it. ^20:2At the same time Jehovah spoke by Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, “Go and take the sackcloth from off your waist; and put off your shoe from your foot.” And he did so, walking lightly clothed and barefoot. ^20:3And Jehovah said, “Like as my servant Isaiah has walked lightly clothed and barefoot three years for a sign and wonder upon Egypt and upon Ethiopia, ^20:4so shall the king of Assyria lead away the Egyptians as prisoners, and the Ethiopians as captives, young and old, lightly clothed and barefoot, even with their buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt. ^20:5And they shall be afraid and ashamed of Ethiopia their expectation, and of Egypt their glory. ^20:6And the inhabitant of this isle shall say in that day, ‘Behold, such is our expectation, where we flee for help to be delivered from the king of Assyria; and how shall we escape?’”

¶Complement   Jehovah will send Elam and Media to destroy Babylon (21:1 - 10)

^21:1The burden of the desert of the sea: “As whirlwinds in the south pass through, so it comes from the desert, from a dreadful land.

^21:2“A grievous vision is declared to me: the treacherous dealer deals treacherously, and the plunderer plunders.

“Go up, O Elam; besiege, O Media; all its sighing have I made to cease.”

^21:3“Therefore my loins are filled with pain; pangs have taken hold upon me, as the pangs of a woman that travails. I was bowed down at the hearing of it; I was dismayed at the sight of it. ^21:4My heart reels; fearfulness gripped me. The night of my pleasure has he turned into fear to me.

^21:5Prepare the table; watch in the watchtower; eat, and drink; arise, you princes, and anoint the shield: ^21:6for the Lord has said this to me: “‘Go, set a watchman; let him declare what he sees.’ ^21:7And he saw a chariot with a couple of horsemen, a chariot of donkeys, and a chariot of camels; and he listened carefully with great care; ^21:8and he cried, ‘A lion! My lord, I stand continually upon the watchtower in the daytime, and I am set in my ward whole nights; ^21:9and, behold, here comes a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen.’ And he answered and said, ‘Babylon has fallen, has fallen; and all the carved images of her gods has he broken to the ground!’” ^21:10O my threshing, and the grain of my floor, that which I have heard of Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, have I declared unto you.

¶Complement   Jehovah will destroy the Arabians by the Babylonians (21:11 - 22:25)

^21:11The burden of Dumah: “He calls to me out of Seir: ‘Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?’ ^21:12The watchman said, ‘The morning comes; and also the night.’ If you will inquire, inquire; return, come.’”

^21:13The burden upon Arabia: “In the forest in Arabia shall you lodge, O you traveling companies of Dedanim. ^21:14The inhabitants of the land of Tema brought water to him that was thirsty; they met with their bread him that fled: ^21:15for they fled from the swords, from the drawn sword, from the bent bow, and from the grievousness of war.

^21:16For thus has the Lord said to me, “Within a year (according to the years of a hireling), and all the glory of Kedar shall fail; ^21:17and the remainder of the number of archers, the mighty men of the children of Kedar, shall be diminished: for Jehovah God of Israel has spoken it.”

^22:1The burden of the valley of vision: “What troubles you now, that you have wholly gone up to the housetops? ^22:2You that are full of stirring, a tumultuous city, a joyous city, your slain men are not slain with the sword, nor dead in battle. ^22:3All your rulers have fled together; they are bound by the archers; all that are found in you are bound together, who have fled from afar. ^22:4Therefore I said, ‘Look away from me; I will weep bitterly; do not labor to comfort me, because of the plundering of the daughter of my people: ^22:5for it is a day of trouble, and of treading down, and of perplexity by the Lord Jehovah of hosts in the valley of vision, breaking down the walls, and of crying to the mountains.’ ^22:6And Elam carried the quiver with chariots of men and horsemen, and Kir uncovered the shield. ^22:7And it shall come to pass, that your choicest valleys shall be full of chariots, and the horsemen shall set themselves in array at the gate. ^22:8And he discovered the covering of Judah, and you looked in that day to the armor of the house of the forest. ^22:9You have also seen the breaches of the city of David, that they are many; and you gathered together the water of the lower pool. ^22:10And you have numbered the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses have you broken down to fortify the wall. ^22:11You also made a ditch between the two walls for the water of the old pool; but you have not looked to its maker; neither did you have respect to him that fashioned it long ago. ^22:12And in that day did the Lord Jehovah of hosts call to weeping, and to mourning, and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth; ^22:13and instead behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen and killing sheep, eating flesh and drinking wine: saying, ‘Let us eat and drink: for tomorrow we shall die!’” ^22:14And it was revealed in my ears by Jehovah of hosts: “‘Surely this iniquity shall not be purged from you until you die,’ says the Lord Jehovah of hosts.”

^22:15“Thus says the Lord Jehovah of hosts: ‘Go, proceed to this treasurer, even to Shebna, who is over the House, and say, ^22:16‘What do you have here? And whom do you have here, that you have cut you out a tomb here, as he that cuts himself out a tomb on high, and that carves a tomb for himself in a rock? ^22:17Behold, Jehovah will carry you away with a mighty captivity, and will surely cover you. ^22:18He will surely violently turn and toss you like a ball into a large country. There you shall die, and there the chariots of your glory shall be the shame of your lord's house. ^22:19And I will drive you from your office, and from your position shall he pull you down. ^22:20And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will call my servant Eliakim the son of Hilkiah; ^22:21and I will clothe him with your robe, and strengthen him with your girdle, and I will commit your government into his hand; and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah. ^22:22And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and no one shall shut; and he shall shut, and no one shall open. ^22:23And I will fasten him as a nail in a sure place, and he shall be for a glorious throne to his father's house. ^22:24And they shall hang upon him all the glory of his father's house, the offspring and the issue, all vessels of small quantity, from the vessels of cups, even to all the vessels of flagons. ^22:25In that day,’ says Jehovah of hosts, ‘shall the nail that is fastened in the sure place be removed, and be cut down, and fall; and the burden that was upon it shall be cut off: for Jehovah has spoken it.’’”

¶Unique   Jehovah will destroy the Earth during the Great Tribulation (23:1 - 24:23)

^23:1The burden of Tyre: “Howl, you ships of Tarshish: for it is laid waste, so that there is no house, and no entering in; from the land of Chittim it is revealed to them. ^23:2Be still, you inhabitants of the isle: you whom the merchants of Zidon, that pass over the sea, have replenished. ^23:3And by great waters the seed of Sihor, the harvest of the river, is her revenue; and she is a marketplace of nations. ^23:4Be ashamed, O Zidon: for the sea has spoken, even the strength of the sea, saying, ‘I do not travail, nor bring forth children; neither do I nourish up young men, nor bring up virgins.’ ^23:5As at the report concerning Egypt, they shall also be sorely pained at the report of Tyre. ^23:6Pass over to Tarshish; howl, you inhabitants of the isle. ^23:7Is this your joyous city, whose antiquity is of ancient days? Her own feet shall carry her far off to sojourn. ^23:8Who has taken this counsel against Tyre, the crowning city, whose merchants are princes, whose traders are the honorable of the earth? ^23:9Jehovah of hosts has purposed it, to stain the pride of all glory, and to bring into contempt all the honorable of the earth. ^23:10Pass through your land as a river, O daughter of Tarshish; there is no more strength. ^23:11He stretched out his hand over the sea; he shook the kingdoms. Jehovah has given a commandment against the merchant city, to destroy its strongholds. ^23:12And he said, ‘You shall rejoice no more, O you oppressed virgin, daughter of Zidon; arise, pass over to Chittim; there also shall you have no rest.’ ^23:13Behold the land of the Chaldeans; this people was not, until the Assyrian founded it for them that dwell in the wilderness; they set up its towers, and they raised up its palaces, and then he brought it to ruin. ^23:14Howl, you ships of Tarshish: for your strength is laid waste.

^23:15“And it shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king; after the end of seventy years shall Tyre sing like a prostitute. ^23:16Take a harp, and go around the city, you prostitute that has been forgotten; make sweet melody, and sing many songs, that you may be remembered. ^23:17And it shall come to pass after the end of seventy years, that Jehovah will visit Tyre; and she shall turn to her hire, and commit fornication with all the kingdoms of the world upon the face of the earth. ^23:18And her merchandise and her hire shall be holiness to Jehovah; it shall not be treasured nor laid up: for her merchandise shall be for them that dwell before Jehovah, to eat sufficiently, and for durable clothing.”

^24:1“Behold, Jehovah makes the land empty; and makes it waste, and turns it upside down, and scatters abroad its inhabitants. ^24:2And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maidservant, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him. ^24:3The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly plundered: for Jehovah has spoken this Word. ^24:4The land mourns and fades away; the world languishes and fades away. The arrogant people of the land languish. ^24:5The land also is defiled under its inhabitants, because they have transgressed the laws, changed the Ordinance, and broken the everlasting Covenant. ^24:6Therefore the curse has devoured the land, and they that dwell in it are desolate; therefore the inhabitants of the land are burned, and few men left. ^24:7The new wine mourns, the vine languishes, and all the merry-hearted sigh. ^24:8The merriment of timbrels cease, the noise of them that rejoice ends, and the joy of the harp ceases. ^24:9They shall not drink wine with a song; alcohol shall be bitter to them that drink it. ^24:10The city of confusion is broken down; every house is shut up, that no man may come in. ^24:11There is a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is darkened; the merriment of the land has gone. ^24:12In the city is left only desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction. ^24:13When thus it shall be in the midst of the land among the people, there shall be as the shaking of an olive tree, and as the gleaning grapes when the vintage is done. ^24:14They shall lift up their voice; they shall sing for the majesty of Jehovah; they shall cry aloud from the sea. ^24:15Therefore glorify Jehovah in the fires, even the Name of Jehovah God of Israel in the isles of the sea. ^24:16From the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs, even glory to the righteous.

“But I said, ‘My leanness, my leanness, woe to me! The treacherous dealers have dealt treacherously; moreover, the treacherous dealers have dealt very treacherously.’ ^24:17Fear, the pit, and the snare, are upon you, O inhabitant of the earth. ^24:18And it shall come to pass, that he who flees from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that comes up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth shake. ^24:19The earth is violently broken in pieces; the earth is split open; the earth is shaken exceedingly. ^24:20The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall totter like a flimsy hut; and the transgression of it shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.

^24:21“And it shall come to pass in that day, that Jehovah shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth. ^24:22And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison; and after many days shall they be visited. ^24:23Then shall the moon blush, and the sun be ashamed, when Jehovah of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously.”

^25:1“O Jehovah, you are my God; I will exalt you, and I will praise your Name: for you have done wonderful things; your counsels of old are faithfulness and truth: ^25:2for you have made a city a heap, a fortified city a ruin, and a palace of strangers to be no city; it shall never be rebuilt. ^25:3Therefore shall the strong people glorify you, and the city of the dreadful nations shall fear you: ^25:4for you have been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, and a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the dreadful ones is like a storm against the wall. ^25:5You shall bring down the noise of strangers, as the heat in a dry place, even the heat with the shadow of a cloud; the branch of the dreadful ones shall be brought low. ^25:6And in this mountain shall Jehovah of hosts make to all people a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined. ^25:7And in this mountain he will destroy the face of the covering cast over all people, and the veil that is spread over all nations. ^25:8He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord Jehovah will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for Jehovah has spoken it.

^25:9“And it shall be said in that day, ‘See, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us. This is Jehovah; we have waited for him; we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation.’ ^25:10For the hand of Jehovah shall rest in this mountain, and Moab shall be trampled down under him, even as straw is trampled down for the dunghill. ^25:11And he shall spread forth his hands in their midst, as he that swims spreads forth his hands to swim; and he shall bring down their pride together with the deviousness of their hands. ^25:12And the fortress of the high fort of your walls shall he bring down, lay low, and bring to the ground, even to the dust.”

^26:1“In that day shall this song be sung in the land of Judah, “We have a strong city; salvation will God appoint for walls and bulwarks. ^26:2Open the gates, that the righteous nation which keeps the truth may enter in.” ^26:3You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind relies upon you, because he trusts in you. ^26:4Trust in Jehovah forever: for in JAH JEHOVAH is the Rock of Ages. ^26:5For he brings them down that dwell on high; the lofty city, he lays it low; he lays it low, even to the ground; he brings it even to the dust. ^26:6The foot shall tread it down, even the feet of the poor, and the steps of the needy. ^26:7The way of the just is uprightness; you, most upright, weigh the path of the just. ^26:8Moreover, in the way of your Judgments, O Jehovah, have we waited for you; the desire of our soul is to your Name, and to the remembrance of you. ^26:9With my soul have I desired you in the night; moreover, with my spirit within me will I seek you early: for when your Judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness. ^26:10Let favor be shown to the wicked, yet will he not learn righteousness; in the land of uprightness will he deal unjustly, and will not behold the majesty of Jehovah. ^26:11O Jehovah, when your hand is lifted up, they will not see; but they shall see, and be ashamed for their envy at the people; moreover, the fire of your enemies shall devour them.

^26:12“Jehovah, you will ordain peace for us: for you also have done all our works in us. ^26:13O Jehovah our God, other lords besides you have had dominion over us; but by you only will we make mention of your Name. ^26:14They are dead, they shall not live, they are deceased, and they shall not rise; therefore you have visited and destroyed them, and made all their memory to perish.

^26:15“You have increased the nation, O Jehovah; you have increased the nation; you are glorified. You have removed it far unto all the ends of the earth. ^26:16Jehovah, in trouble have they visited you; they poured out a prayer when your discipline was upon them. ^26:17Like a woman with child, that draws near the time of her delivery, is in pain, and cries out in her pangs, so have we been in your sight, O Jehovah. ^26:18We have been with child; we have been in pain; we have as it were given birth to wind; we have not worked any deliverance in the earth; neither have the inhabitants of the world fallen. ^26:19Your dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, you that dwell in dust: for your dew is as the dew of herbs; and the earth shall cast out the dead.”

¶Complement   Jehovah will gather his people into the land of Israel (26:20 - 27:13)

^26:20“Come, my people, enter into your chambers, and shut your doors around you; hide yourself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation has passed over. ^26:21For, behold, Jehovah is coming out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity. The earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no longer cover her slain. ^27:1In that day Jehovah with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.

^27:2“In that day sing to her, ‘Israel is a vineyard of red wine.’ ^27:3I Jehovah guard it; I will water it every moment; lest any hurt it, I will protect it night and day. ^27:4Fury is not in me. Who would set the briers and thorns against me in battle? I would go through them, I would burn them together. ^27:5Or let him take hold of my strength, that he may make peace with me; and he shall make peace with me. ^27:6He shall cause them that come of Jacob to take root; Israel shall blossom and bud, and fill the face of the world with fruit.”

^27:7“Has he smitten him, as he smote those that smote him; or is he slain according to the slaughter of them that are slain by him? ^27:8In measure, when it shoots forth, you will debate with it; he restrains his rough wind in the day of the east wind. ^27:9By this therefore shall the iniquity of Jacob be purged; and this is all the fruit to take away his sin, when he makes all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are beaten in pieces; the carved images of Asherah and images of Baal shall not stand up. ^27:10Yet the fortified city shall be desolate, and the habitation forsaken, and left like a wilderness; there shall the calf feed; and there shall he lie down, and consume its branches. ^27:11When its boughs are withered, they shall be broken off; the women come; and set them on fire. For it is a people of no understanding; therefore he that made them will not have mercy on them; and he that formed them will show them no favor.

^27:12“And it shall come to pass in that day, that Jehovah shall harvest his fruit from the channel of the Euphrates river unto the stream of Egypt; and you shall be gathered one by one, O you children of Israel.

^27:13“And it shall come to pass in that day, that the great Trumpet shall be blown, and they shall come who were ready to perish in the land of Assyria, and the outcasts in the land of Egypt; and they shall worship Jehovah in the holy mount at Jerusalem.”

^13:9“He aquí el Día de Jehová viene, cruel, y de saña y ardiente ira, para tornar la tierra en soledad, y raer de ella sus pecadores. ^13:10Por lo cual las estrellas de los cielos y sus constelaciones no darán su luz; y el sol se oscurecerá al salir, y la luna no dará su resplandor. ^13:11Y castigaré al mundo por su maldad, y a los impíos por su iniquidad; y haré que cese la arrogancia de los soberbios, y abatiré la altivez de los poderosos. ^13:12Haré más precioso que el oro fino al varón, y más que el oro de Ofir al hombre. ^13:13Porque haré estremecer los cielos, y la tierra se moverá de su lugar, en la indignación de Jehová de los ejércitos, y en el Día de su ardiente ira. ^13:14Y será que como gacela acosada, y como oveja sin pastor, cada cual mirará hacia su pueblo, y cada uno huirá a su tierra. ^13:15Cualquiera que sea hallado, será traspasado; y cualquiera que a ellos se una, caerá a espada. ^13:16Sus niños serán estrellados delante de ellos; sus casas serán saqueadas, y violadas sus esposas”.

^13:17“He aquí que yo levanto contra ellos a los medos, que no se ocuparán de la plata, ni codiciarán oro. ^13:18Con arcos tirarán a los niños, y no tendrán misericordia del fruto del vientre, ni su ojo perdonará a los hijos. ^13:19Y Babilonia, hermosura de reinos y ornamento de la grandeza de los caldeos, será como Sodoma y Gomorra, a las que trastornó Dios. ^13:20Nunca más será habitada, ni se morará en ella de generación en generación; ni levantará allí tienda el árabe, ni pastores tendrán allí majada; ^13:21sino que dormirán allí las fieras del desierto, y sus casas se llenarán de hurones, allí habitarán los búhos, y allí saltarán cabras monteses. ^13:22Y en sus casas desoladas aullarán hienas, y dragones en sus casas de deleite; y cercano a llegar está su tiempo, y sus días no se prolongarán.

^14:1“Porque Jehová tendrá misericordia de Jacob, y todavía escogerá a Israel y le establecerá en su propia tierra; y a ellos se unirán extranjeros, y se juntarán a la casa de Jacob. ^14:2Y los tomarán los pueblos, y los traerán a su lugar; y la casa de Israel los poseerá por siervos y criadas en la tierra de Jehová; y cautivarán a los que los cautivaron, y señorearán sobre sus opresores. ^14:3Y será en el día que Jehová te dé reposo de tu trabajo, y de tu temor, y de la dura servidumbre en que te hicieron servir, ^14:4que levantarás este proverbio sobre el rey de Babilonia, y dirás, ‘¡Cómo cesó el opresor, cómo cesó la ciudad del oro! ^14:5Quebrantó Jehová el bastón de los impíos, el cetro de los señores; ^14:6al que hería a los pueblos con ira, con llaga permanente, el cual se enseñoreaba de las naciones con furor, y las perseguía con crueldad’. ^14:7Descansó, sosegó toda la tierra; prorrumpieron en alabanza. ^14:8Aun los cipreses se regocijaron de ti, y los cedros del Líbano, diciendo, ‘Desde que tú pereciste, no ha subido cortador contra nosotros’. ^14:9El infierno abajo se espantó de ti, al recibirte en tu venida; te despertó a los muertos, aun a todos los príncipes de la tierra; hizo levantar de sus tronos a todos los reyes de las naciones. ^14:10Todos ellos darán voces, y te dirán, ‘¿Tú también te debilitaste como nosotros, y como nosotros has venido a ser? ^14:11Descendió al sepulcro tu soberbia, y el sonido de tus arpas; gusanos serán tu cama, y gusanos te cubrirán’”.

^14:15“Pero tú derribado serás hasta el infierno, a los lados del abismo. ^14:16Los que te vean, te observarán, te contemplarán, diciendo, ‘¿Es éste aquel varón que hacía temblar la tierra, que trastornaba los reinos; ^14:17que puso el mundo como un desierto, que asoló sus ciudades; que a sus presos nunca abrió la cárcel?’ ^14:18Todos los reyes de las naciones, todos ellos yacen con honra cada uno en su propia casa. ^14:19Pero tú has sido echado de tu sepulcro como vástago abominable, como ropa de muertos atravesados a espada, que descienden hasta las piedras de la fosa; como un cadáver pisoteado. ^14:20No serás contado con ellos en la sepultura: porque tú destruiste tu tierra, mataste tu pueblo. No será nombrada para siempre la simiente de los malhechores”.

^14:21“‘Preparad el matadero para sus hijos por la maldad de sus padres; no se levanten, ni posean la tierra, ni llenen la faz del mundo de ciudades: ^14:22porque yo me levantaré contra ellos,’ dice Jehová de los ejércitos, ‘y raeré de Babilonia el nombre y el remanente, hijo y nieto, dice Jehová. ^14:23‘Y la convertiré en posesión de erizos, y en lagunas de agua; y la barreré con escobas de destrucción,’ dice Jehová de los ejércitos.

^14:24“Jehová de los ejércitos juró, diciendo, ‘Ciertamente se hará de la manera que lo he pensado, y será confirmado como lo he determinado, ^14:25que quebrantaré al asirio en mi tierra, y en mis montes lo hollaré; y su yugo será apartado de ellos, y su carga será quitada de su hombro. ^14:26Éste es el consejo que está acordado sobre toda la tierra; y ésta, la mano extendida sobre todas las naciones: ^14:27porque Jehová de los ejércitos ha determinado; ¿y quién invalidará? Y su mano extendida, ¿quién la hará tornar?’”.

^14:28En el año que murió el rey Acaz fue esta carga: ^14:29“No te alegres tú, Filistea toda, por haberse quebrado la vara del que te hería: porque de la raíz de la culebra saldrá la víbora, y su fruto, serpiente voladora. ^14:30Y los primogénitos de los pobres serán apacentados, y los menesterosos se acostarán seguramente; pero yo haré morir de hambre tu raíz, y destruiré tu remanente. ^14:31Aúlla, oh puerta; clama, oh ciudad; disuelta estás toda tú, Filistea: porque humo vendrá del norte, no quedará uno solo en sus asambleas. ^14:32¿Y qué se responderá a los mensajeros de la nación? Que Jehová fundó a Sión, y que en ella se refugiarán los afligidos de su pueblo”.

Por la cuesta de Luhit subirán llorando, y levantarán grito de quebrantamiento por el camino de Horonaim. ^15:6Las aguas de Nimrim serán consumidas, y se secará la hierba, se marchitarán los retoños, todo verdor perecerá. ^15:7Por tanto, las riquezas que habrán adquirido, y las que habrán almacenado, las llevarán al torrente de los sauces: ^15:8porque el llanto rodeó los términos de Moab; hasta Eglaim llegó su alarido, y hasta Beerelim su clamor. ^15:9Y las aguas de Dimón se llenarán de sangre: porque yo traeré sobre Dimón otros males, leones sobre los que escaparen de Moab, y sobre los que quedaren de la tierra.

^16:1“Enviad cordero al gobernador de la tierra, desde Sela del desierto hasta el monte de la hija de Sión. ^16:2Y será que cual ave espantada que huye de su nido, así serán las hijas de Moab en los vados de Arnón. ^16:3Reúne consejo, haz juicio; pon tu sombra en medio del día como la noche; esconde a los desterrados, no entregues a los que andan errantes. ^16:4Moren contigo mis desterrados, oh Moab; sé para ellos escondedero de la presencia del destructor: porque el atormentador fenecerá, el destructor tendrá fin, el opresor será consumido de sobre la tierra. ^16:5Y en misericordia será establecido el trono; y sobre él se sentará firmemente, en el Tabernáculo de David, quien juzgue y busque el juicio, y apresure la justicia. ^16:6Hemos oído de la soberbia de Moab, es soberbio en extremo; de su soberbia, su arrogancia y su altivez; pero sus mentiras no permanecerán. ^16:7Por tanto, aullará Moab, todo él aullará; gemiréis por los fundamentos de Kir-hareset, en gran manera heridos: ^16:8porque los campos de Hesbón se han marchitado, también las vides de Sibma; los señores de las naciones pisotearon sus mejores sarmientos; habían llegado hasta Jazer, y se habían extendido por el desierto; se extendieron sus plantas, pasaron el mar. ^16:9Por lo cual lamentaré con lloro de Jazer la viña de Sibma; te bañaré de mis lágrimas, oh Hesbón y Eleale: porque los gritos de alegría sobre tus frutos de verano y sobre tu cosecha han cesado. ^16:10Quitado es el gozo y la alegría del campo fértil; en las viñas no cantarán, ni se regocijarán; el pisador no pisará vino en los lagares; el júbilo del lagarero he hecho cesar. ^16:11Por tanto, mis entrañas sonarán como arpa por Moab, y mi interior por Kir-hareset. ^16:12Y sucederá que cuando Moab apareciere cansado sobre los lugares altos, que vendrá a su santuario a orar, pero no le valdrá”.

^16:13Ésta es la Palabra que pronunció Jehová acerca de Moab desde aquel tiempo. ^16:14Pero ahora Jehová ha hablado, diciendo, “Dentro de tres años, como los años de un jornalero, así la gloria de Moab será abatida, con toda su gran multitud; y el remanente será muy pequeño y débil”.

^17:1La carga de Damasco: “‘He aquí que Damasco dejará de ser ciudad, y será un montón de ruinas. ^17:2Las ciudades de Aroer están abandonadas, serán para los rebaños; para que reposen allí, y no habrá quien los espante. ^17:3Y cesará el socorro de Efraín, y el reino de Damasco; y el remanente de Siria, será como la gloria de los hijos de Israel,’ dice Jehová de los ejércitos. ^17:4‘Y será que en aquel tiempo la gloria de Jacob se atenuará, y se enflaquecerá la grosura de su carne. ^17:5Y será como cuando el segador recoge la mies, y con su brazo siega las espigas; será también como el que recoge espigas en el valle de Refaim. ^17:6Y quedarán en él rebuscos, como cuando sacuden el olivo, dos o tres olivas en la rama más alta, cuatro o cinco en sus ramas más fructíferas,’ dice Jehová Dios de Israel. ^17:7‘En aquel día mirará el hombre a su Hacedor, y sus ojos contemplarán al Santo de Israel. ^17:8Y no mirará a los altares que hicieron sus manos, ni mirará a lo que hicieron sus dedos, ni a las imágenes de Asera, ni a las imágenes del sol. ^17:9En aquel día las ciudades fortificadas serán como los frutos que quedan en los renuevos y en las ramas, las cuales fueron dejadas a causa de los hijos de Israel; y habrá desolación. ^17:10Porque te olvidaste del Dios de tu salvación, y no te acordaste de la Roca de tu fortaleza; por tanto plantarás plantas hermosas, y sembrarás sarmiento extraño. ^17:11En el día harás crecer tus plantas, y por la mañana harás que tu semilla florezca; pero la cosecha será arrebatada en el día de angustia y dolor desesperado. ^17:12¡Ay de la multitud de muchos pueblos, que hacen ruido como el estruendo de los mares; y del rugido de naciones que hacen alboroto como el bramido de muchas aguas! ^17:13Los pueblos harán estrépito a manera de ruido de muchas aguas; pero Dios los reprenderá, y huirán lejos; serán ahuyentados como el tamo de los montes delante del viento, y como el polvo delante del torbellino. ^17:14Al tiempo de la tarde he aquí turbación; y antes de la mañana ya no es. Ésta es la porción de los que nos despojan, y la suerte de los que nos saquean. ^18:1Ay de la tierra que hace sombra con las alas, que está tras los ríos de Etiopía: ^18:2que envía mensajeros por el mar, en naves de junco sobre las aguas, diciendo, ‘¡Andad, veloces mensajeros, a la nación dispersada y raída, al pueblo temible desde su principio y después; nación agredida y pisoteada, cuya tierra destruyeron los ríos!’”.

^18:3Ustedes, todos los moradores del mundo y habitantes de la tierra, cuando se levante bandera en los montes, mirad; y cuando se toque trompeta, oíd: ^18:4porque Jehová me dijo así, “Reposaré, y miraré desde mi morada, como sol claro después de la lluvia, como nube de rocío en el calor de la tierra: ^18:5porque antes de la siega, cuando el fruto fuere perfecto, y pasada la flor fueren madurando los frutos, entonces podará con podaderas las ramitas, y cortará y quitará las ramas. ^18:6Y serán dejados para las aves de los montes, y para las bestias de la tierra; sobre ellos pasarán el verano las aves, e invernarán todas las bestias de la tierra. ^18:7En aquel tiempo será traído presente a Jehová de los ejércitos, de la nación dispersada y raída, y del pueblo temible desde su principio y después; nación agredida y pisoteada, cuya tierra destruyeron los ríos; al lugar del Nombre de Jehová de los ejércitos, al monte de Sión”.

¶Lo opuesto   Jehová destruirá Egipto por la mano de los babilonios (19:1 - 20:6)

^19:1La carga de Egipto: “‘He aquí, Jehová cabalga sobre una nube veloz, y entrará en Egipto. Los ídolos de Egipto se estremecerán ante su presencia, y el corazón de los egipcios desfallecerá dentro de ellos. ^19:2Y levantaré egipcios contra egipcios, y cada uno peleará contra su hermano, cada uno contra su prójimo; ciudad contra ciudad, y reino contra reino. ^19:3Y el espíritu de Egipto se desvanecerá en medio de él, y destruiré su consejo; y preguntarán a las imágenes, a los encantadores, a los evocadores y a los adivinos. ^19:4Y entregaré a Egipto en manos de un señor cruel; y un rey violento se enseñoreará de ellos,’ dice el Señor, Jehová de los ejércitos. ^19:5‘Y las aguas del mar faltarán, y el río se agotará y secará. ^19:6Y se alejarán los ríos, se agotarán y secarán las corrientes de los fosos; la caña y el carrizo se marchitarán. ^19:7Las cañas de junto al río, de junto a la ribera del río, y todas las cosas sembradas junto al río se secarán, se perderán, y no serán más. ^19:8Los pescadores también se entristecerán; y harán duelo todos los que echan anzuelo en el río, y desfallecerán los que extienden red sobre las aguas. ^19:9Los que labran lino fino, y los que tejen redes serán confundidos: ^19:10porque todas sus redes serán rotas, y se entristecerán todos los que hacen viveros para peces. ^19:11Ciertamente son necios los príncipes de Zoán; el consejo de los prudentes consejeros de Faraón, se ha desvanecido. ¿Cómo diréis a Faraón, ‘Yo soy hijo de los sabios, e hijo de los reyes antiguos’? ^19:12¿Dónde están ahora aquellos tus sabios? Que te digan ahora, o te hagan saber qué es lo que Jehová de los ejércitos ha determinado sobre Egipto. ^19:13Se han desvanecido los príncipes de Zoán, se han engañado los príncipes de Nof; engañaron a Egipto los que son la piedra angular de sus tribus. ^19:14Jehová mezcló espíritu de vértigo en medio de él; e hicieron errar a Egipto en toda su obra, como tambalea el borracho en su vómito. ^19:15Y no aprovechará a Egipto cosa alguna que pueda hacer la cabeza o la cola, la rama o el junco.

^19:16“‘En aquel día los egipcios serán como mujeres: porque se asombrarán y temerán, en la presencia de la mano alta de Jehová de los ejércitos, que él ha de levantar sobre ellos. ^19:17Y la tierra de Judá será de espanto a Egipto; todo hombre que de ella se acordare temerá, por causa del consejo que Jehová de los ejércitos acordó sobre aquél’”.

^19:18“‘En aquel día habrá cinco ciudades en la tierra de Egipto que hablen la lengua de Canaán, y que juren por Jehová de los ejércitos: una será llamada ‘La ciudad Herez’.

^19:19“‘En aquel día habrá altar para Jehová en medio de la tierra de Egipto, y una columna a Jehová junto a su frontera. ^19:20Y será por señal y por testimonio a Jehová de los ejércitos en la tierra de Egipto: porque a Jehová clamarán a causa de sus opresores, y él les enviará salvador y príncipe que los libre. ^19:21Y Jehová será conocido de Egipto, y los de Egipto conocerán a Jehová en aquel día; y harán sacrificio y oblación; y harán votos a Jehová, y los cumplirán. ^19:22Y herirá a Egipto, herirá y sanará; y se convertirán a Jehová, y les será clemente y los sanará. ^19:23En aquel tiempo habrá una calzada de Egipto a Asiria, y los asirios entrarán en Egipto, y los egipcios en Asiria; y los egipcios servirán junto con los asirios. ^19:24En aquel tiempo, Israel será tercero con Egipto y con Asiria; será bendición en medio de la tierra: ^19:25porque Jehová de los ejércitos los bendecirá, diciendo, ‘Bendito el pueblo mío Egipto, y Asiria obra de mis manos, e Israel mi heredad’’”.

^20:1En el año que vino Tartán a Asdod, cuando le envió Sargón rey de Asiria, y peleó contra Asdod y la tomó. ^20:2En aquel tiempo habló Jehová por Isaías hijo de Amoz, diciendo, “Ve, y quita el cilicio de tus lomos, y quita las sandalias de tus pies”. Y lo hizo así, andando desnudo y descalzo. ^20:3Y dijo Jehová, “De la manera que anduvo mi siervo Isaías desnudo y descalzo tres años, por señal y pronóstico sobre Egipto y sobre Etiopía; ^20:4así llevará el rey de Asiria a los cautivos de Egipto y los exiliados de Etiopía, a jóvenes y a viejos, desnudos y descalzos, y con las nalgas descubiertas para vergüenza de Egipto. ^20:5Y se turbarán y avergonzarán de Etiopía su esperanza, y de Egipto su gloria. ^20:6Y dirá en aquel día el morador de esta isla, ‘¡Mirad cuál es nuestra esperanza, a dónde acudimos por ayuda para ser libres de la presencia del rey de Asiria! ¿Y cómo escaparemos nosotros?’”.

¶El complemento   Jehová enviará a Elam y Media a destruir Babilonia (21:1 - 10)

^21:1La carga del desierto del mar: “Como pasan los torbellinos en el Neguev, así viene del desierto, de la tierra horrenda.

^21:2“Visión dura me ha sido mostrada: el prevaricador prevarica, y el destructor destruye.

“Sube, oh Elam; sitia, oh Media. Todo su gemido hice cesar”.

^21:3Por tanto mis lomos se han llenado de dolor; angustias se apoderaron de mí, como angustias de mujer de parto. Me agobié oyendo, y al ver me he espantado. ^21:4Se pasmó mi corazón, el horror me ha intimidado; la noche de mi placer se me tornó en espanto.

^21:5Poned la mesa, observad desde la atalaya, comed, bebed; levantaos, príncipes, ungid el escudo: ^21:6porque el Señor me dijo así, “‘Ve; pon centinela; deja que declare lo que ve’. ^21:7Y vio carros de par de jinetes, carros de asno, y carros de camello. Luego miró más atentamente, ^21:8y gritó, ‘¡Un león! Mi señor, sobre la atalaya estoy yo continuamente de día, y paso las noches enteras sobre mi guarda; ^21:9y he aquí que viene carro de hombres, con un par de jinetes’. Después habló, y dijo, ‘¡Babilonia ha caído, ha caído! Y todas las imágenes talladas de sus dioses, él ha roto sobre el suelo’”. ^21:10Oh, mi trilla y el grano de mi piso de trilla, lo que he oído de Jehová de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel, te he declarado.

¶El complemento   Jehová destruirá a los árabes por los babilonios (21:11 - 22:25)

^21:11La carga de Duma: “Me dan voces desde Seir, diciendo, ‘Guarda, ¿qué de la noche? Guarda, ¿qué de la noche?’ ^21:12El guarda respondió, ‘La mañana viene, y después la noche; si preguntareis, preguntad; volved, venid’”.

^21:13La carga sobre Arabia: “En el bosque de Arabia pasaréis la noche, oh caravanas de Dedán. ^21:14Los moradores de la tierra de Tema trajeron agua al que estaba sediento; salieron con su pan a encontrar al que huía: ^21:15porque huyeron de la espada, de la espada desnuda, del arco entesado, de lo pesado de la batalla”.

^21:16Porque así me ha dicho Jehová, “De aquí a un año (semejante a años de jornalero), y toda la gloria de Cedar será desecha; ^21:17y el resto del número de los valientes arqueros, hijos de Cedar, será reducido: porque Jehová Dios de Israel lo ha dicho”.

^22:1La carga del valle de la visión: “¿Qué te preocupas ahora que has subido por completo a los terrados? ^22:2Tú, llena de alborotos, ciudad turbulenta, ciudad alegre; tus muertos no son muertos a espada, ni muertos en guerra. ^22:3Todos tus príncipes huyeron juntos, fueron atados por los arqueros; todos los que en ti se hallaron, fueron atados juntamente, aunque lejos habían huido. ^22:4Por esto dije, ‘Dejadme, lloraré amargamente; no os afanéis por consolarme de la destrucción de la hija de mi pueblo: ^22:5porque día es de alboroto, de atropello y de confusión, de parte del Señor, Jehová de los ejércitos en el valle de la visión, para derribar el muro, y clamar a las montañas’. ^22:6Y Elam tomó aljaba en carro de hombres y de jinetes; y Kir descubrió el escudo. ^22:7Y acontecerá que tus hermosos valles serán llenos de carros, y los de a caballo acamparán a la puerta. ^22:8Y desnudó la cobertura de Judá; y miraste en aquel día hacia la casa de armas del bosque. ^22:9Y tú has visto las brechas de la ciudad de David, que son muchas; y recogisteis las aguas del estanque de abajo. ^22:10Y contasteis las casas de Jerusalén, y derribasteis casas para fortificar el muro. ^22:11E hicisteis foso entre los dos muros con las aguas del estanque antiguo; y no tuvisteis respeto al que lo hizo, ni mirasteis al que hace mucho tiempo lo labró. ^22:12Por tanto el Señor Jehová de los ejércitos llamó en este día a llanto y a endechas, a raparse el cabello y a vestirse de cilicio. ^22:13Y he aquí gozo y alegría, matando vacas y degollando ovejas, comiendo carne y bebiendo vino, diciendo, ‘¡Comamos y bebamos, que mañana moriremos!’”. ^22:14Y fue revelado en mis oídos por Jehová de los ejércitos, “‘Ciertamente esta iniquidad no será limpiada de ustedes hasta que muráis,’ dice el Señor Jehová de los ejércitos”.

^22:15“Jehová de los ejércitos dice así, ‘Ve, entra a este tesorero, a Sebna el mayordomo, y dile, ^22:16‘¿Qué tienes tú aquí, o a quién tienes tú aquí, que labraste aquí sepulcro para ti, como el que en lugar alto labra su sepultura, o el que esculpe para sí morada en una peña? ^22:17He aquí que Jehová te trasportará en duro cautiverio, y de cierto te cubrirá el rostro. ^22:18Te echará a rodar con ímpetu, como a bola por tierra extensa; allá morirás, y allá estarán los carros de tu gloria, oh vergüenza de la casa de tu señor. ^22:19Y te arrojaré de tu lugar, y te derribaré de tu puesto. ^22:20Y será que, en aquel día, llamaré a mi siervo Eliaquim, hijo de Hilcías; ^22:21y lo vestiré de tus vestiduras, y le fortaleceré con tu talabarte, y entregaré en sus manos tu potestad; y será padre al morador de Jerusalén, y a la casa de Judá. ^22:22Y pondré la llave de la casa de David sobre su hombro; y abrirá, y nadie cerrará; cerrará, y nadie abrirá. ^22:23Y lo hincaré como clavo en lugar firme; y será por asiento de honra a la casa de su padre. ^22:24Colgarán de él toda la honra de la casa de su padre, los hijos y los nietos, todos los vasos menores, desde los vasos de beber y toda clase de frascos. ^22:25En aquel día,’ dice Jehová de los ejércitos, ‘el clavo hincado en lugar firme será quitado, será quebrado y caerá; y la carga que sobre él se puso, se echará a perder: porque Jehová ha hablado’’”.

¶Único   Jehová destruirá la Tierra durante la Gran Tribulación (23:1 - 24:23)

^23:1La carga de Tiro: “Lamentad, ustedes naves de Tarsis: porque Tiro es destruida hasta no quedar en ella casa ni lugar por donde entrar. Desde la tierra de Quitim le ha sido revelado. ^23:2Callad, moradores de la isla, mercaderes de Sidón, que pasando el mar te abastecían. ^23:3Su ganancia es de las sementeras que crecen con las muchas aguas del Nilo, de la mies del río. Es también el mercado de las naciones. ^23:4Avergüénzate, Sidón: porque el mar, la fortaleza del mar habló, diciendo, ‘Nunca estuve de parto, ni di a luz, ni crié jóvenes, ni crié vírgenes’. ^23:5Cuando llegue la noticia a Egipto, tendrán dolor de las nuevas de Tiro. ^23:6Pasaos a Tarsis; aullad, moradores de la isla. ^23:7¿Es ésta vuestra ciudad alegre, cuya antigüedad es de muchos días? Sus pies la llevarán a peregrinar lejos. ^23:8¿Quién decretó esto sobre Tiro, la que repartía coronas, cuyos negociantes eran príncipes, cuyos mercaderes eran los nobles de la tierra? ^23:9Jehová de los ejércitos lo decretó, para envilecer la soberbia de toda gloria; y para abatir todos los ilustres de la tierra. ^23:10Pasa cual río de tu tierra, oh hija de Tarsis: porque no tendrás ya más fortaleza. ^23:11Extendió su mano sobre el mar, hizo temblar los reinos. Jehová dio mandamiento respecto a Canaán, que sus fortalezas sean destruidas. ^23:12Y dijo, ‘No te alegrarás más, oh tú, oprimida virgen hija de Sidón. Levántate para pasar a Quitim; y aun allí no tendrás reposo’. ^23:13Mira la tierra de los caldeos; este pueblo no existía; hasta que Asiria la fundó para los moradores del desierto; levantaron sus fortalezas, edificaron sus palacios; él la convirtió en ruinas. ^23:14Aullad, naves de Tarsis: porque destruida es vuestra fortaleza.

^23:15“Y acontecerá en aquel día, que Tiro será puesta en olvido por setenta años, como días de un rey. Después de los setenta años, cantará Tiro canción como de ramera. ^23:16Toma arpa, y rodea la ciudad, oh ramera olvidada; haz buena melodía, canta muchas canciones, para que seas recordada. ^23:17Y acontecerá, que al fin de los setenta años visitará Jehová a Tiro; y volverá a su salario, y otra vez fornicará con todos los reinos de la tierra sobre la faz de la tierra. ^23:18Pero sus negocios y sus ganancias serán consagrados a Jehová; no se guardarán ni se atesorarán: porque sus ganancias serán para los que estuvieren delante de Jehová, para que coman hasta saciarse, y vistan honradamente”.

^24:1“He aquí que Jehová vacía la tierra y la desnuda, y trastorna su faz, y dispersa sus moradores. ^24:2Y sucederá así como al pueblo, también al sacerdote; como al siervo, así a su señor; como a la criada, así a su señora; como al que compra, así al que vende; como al que presta, así al que toma prestado; como al acreedor, así al deudor. ^24:3Del todo será vaciada la tierra, y totalmente saqueada: porque Jehová ha pronunciado esta Palabra. ^24:4Se enlutó, se marchitó la tierra; el mundo languidece y se marchita; languidecen los grandes de los pueblos de la tierra. ^24:5Y la tierra se corrompió bajo sus moradores: porque traspasaron las leyes, falsearon el derecho, rompieron el Pacto eterno. ^24:6Por esta causa la maldición consumió la tierra, y sus moradores fueron asolados; por esta causa fueron consumidos los habitantes de la tierra, y se disminuyeron los hombres. ^24:7Se enlutó el vino, languideció la vid, gimieron todos los que eran alegres de corazón. ^24:8Cesó el regocijo de los panderos, se acabó el estruendo de los que se alegran, cesó la alegría del arpa. ^24:9No beberán vino con canción; el licor será amargo a los que lo bebieren. ^24:10Quebrantada está la ciudad de la confusión; toda casa se ha cerrado, para que no entre nadie. ^24:11Hay clamores por falta de vino en las calles; todo gozo se oscureció, se desterró la alegría de la tierra. ^24:12En la ciudad quedó desolación, y con destrucción fue herida la puerta. ^24:13Porque así será en medio de la tierra, en medio de los pueblos, así como es sacudido el olivo, como rebuscos cuando ha acabado la vendimia. ^24:14Éstos alzarán su voz, cantarán gozosos en la grandeza de Jehová, desde el mar darán voces. ^24:15Por tanto, glorificad a Jehová en el fuego; aun en las islas del mar sea nombrado Jehová, Dios de Israel. ^24:16De lo postrero de la tierra oímos cánticos, gloria al justo.

“Pero yo dije, ‘¡Mi flaqueza, mi flaqueza, ay de mí! Prevaricadores han prevaricado; y han prevaricado con prevaricación de desleales’. ^24:17Terror, y foso y lazo sobre ti, oh morador de la tierra. ^24:18Y acontecerá que el que huyere de la voz del terror, caerá en el foso; y el que saliere de en medio del foso, será preso en el lazo: porque de lo alto se abrieron ventanas, y temblarán los fundamentos de la tierra. ^24:19Se quebrantará del todo la tierra, enteramente desmenuzada será la tierra, en gran manera será conmovida la tierra. ^24:20Temblará la tierra, temblará como un borracho, y será removida como una choza; y se agravará sobre ella su pecado, y caerá, y nunca más se levantará.

^24:21“Y acontecerá en aquel día, que Jehová visitará sobre el ejército sublime en lo alto, y sobre los reyes de la tierra que hay sobre la tierra. ^24:22Y serán amontonados como se amontona a los encarcelados en mazmorra, y en prisión quedarán encerrados, y serán visitados después de muchos días. ^24:23La luna se avergonzará, y el sol se confundirá, cuando Jehová de los ejércitos reine gloriosamente en el monte de Sión, y en Jerusalén, y delante de sus ancianos”.

§El complemento   Conclusión: El Reino Milenial de Cristo (25:1 - 27:13)

¶El complemento   El pueblo de Jehová le alabará (25:1 - 26:19)

^25:1“Oh Jehová, tú eres mi Dios; te exaltaré, alabaré tu Nombre: porque has hecho maravillas, tus consejos antiguos son fidelidad y verdad. ^25:2Que convertiste la ciudad en montón, la ciudad fortificada en ruina; el alcázar de los extraños para que no sea ciudad, nunca más será reedificada. ^25:3Por esto te glorificará el pueblo fuerte, te temerá la ciudad de gentes robustas: ^25:4porque fuiste fortaleza al pobre, fortaleza al menesteroso en su aflicción, refugio contra la tormenta, sombra contra el calor: porque el ímpetu de los violentos es como tormenta contra el muro. ^25:5Como el calor en lugar seco, así humillarás el orgullo de los extraños; y como calor debajo de nube, harás marchitar el renuevo de los violentos. ^25:6Y Jehová de los ejércitos hará en este monte a todos los pueblos banquete de grosuras, banquete de vinos añejos, de gruesos tuétanos, y de vinos añejos bien refinados. ^25:7Y destruirá en este monte la máscara con la que están cubiertos todos los pueblos, y el velo que está extendido sobre todas las naciones. ^25:8Sorberá a la muerte en victoria; y enjugará Jehová el Señor toda lágrima de todos los rostros; y quitará la afrenta de su pueblo de toda la tierra: porque Jehová lo ha dicho.

^25:9“Y se dirá en aquel día, ‘He aquí, éste es nuestro Dios; en él hemos esperado, y él nos salvará; éste es Jehová: en él hemos esperado, estaremos alegres y nos regocijaremos en su salvación’. ^25:10Porque la mano de Jehová reposará en este monte, y Moab será hollado debajo de él, como es hollada la paja en el muladar. ^25:11Y él extenderá sus manos en medio de ellos, como las extiende el nadador para nadar; y abatirá su soberbia junto con el despojo de sus manos. ^25:12Y allanará la fortaleza de tus altos muros; la humillará y echará a tierra, hasta el polvo”.

^26:1“En aquel día cantarán este cántico en la tierra de Judá, “Fuerte ciudad tenemos; salvación puso Dios por muros y antemuro. ^26:2Abrid las puertas, y entrará la nación justa que guarda la verdad”. ^26:3Tú guardarás en completa paz, a aquel cuyo pensamiento en ti persevera: porque en ti ha confiado. ^26:4Confiad en Jehová perpetuamente: porque en JAH JEHOVÁ está la Roca de las Edades: ^26:5porque derribó los que moraban en lugar alto; humilló la ciudad enaltecida, la humilló hasta la tierra, la derribó hasta el polvo. ^26:6La hollará pie, los pies del pobre, los pasos de los menesterosos. ^26:7El camino del justo es rectitud; tú que eres recto, pesas el camino del justo. ^26:8También en el camino de tus Juicios, oh Jehová, te hemos esperado; tu Nombre y tu memoria son el deseo de nuestra alma. ^26:9Con mi alma te he deseado en la noche; y con mi espíritu dentro de mí, madrugaré a buscarte: porque luego que hay Juicios tuyos en la tierra, los moradores del mundo aprenden justicia. ^26:10Aunque se le muestre piedad al impío, no aprenderá justicia; en tierra de rectitud hará iniquidad, y no mirará a la majestad de Jehová. ^26:11Jehová, levantada está tu mano, pero ellos no ven; verán al fin, y se avergonzarán los que envidian a tu pueblo; y a tus enemigos fuego los consumirá.

^26:12“Jehová, tú establecerás paz para nosotros: porque también has hecho en nosotros todas nuestras obras. ^26:13Oh Jehová Dios nuestro, otros señores fuera de ti se han enseñoreado de nosotros; pero en ti solamente nos acordaremos de tu Nombre. ^26:14Muertos son, no vivirán; han fallecido, no se levantarán: porque los visitaste y destruiste, e hiciste que pereciera toda su memoria.

^26:15“Tú has engrandecido la nación, oh Jehová, tú has engrandecido la nación; te hiciste glorioso; la has extendido hasta todos los términos de la tierra. ^26:16Jehová, en la tribulación te buscaron; derramaron oración cuando los castigaste. ^26:17Como la mujer encinta cuando se acerca el tiempo de dar a luz gime y da gritos en sus dolores, así hemos sido delante de ti, oh Jehová. ^26:18Concebimos, tuvimos dolores de parto, pero fue como si diéramos a luz viento. Ninguna liberación hicimos en la tierra, ni cayeron los moradores del mundo. ^26:19Tus muertos vivirán; junto con mi cuerpo muerto resucitarán. ¡Despertad y cantad, moradores del polvo! porque tu rocío es cual rocío de hortalizas; y la tierra echará los muertos”.

¶El complemento   Jehová reunirá a su pueblo dentro la tierra de Israel (26:20 - 27:13)

^26:20“Anda, pueblo mío, entra en tus aposentos, cierra tras ti tus puertas; escóndete como por un momento, en tanto que pasa la indignación. ^26:21Porque he aquí que Jehová sale de su lugar, para castigar la maldad de los moradores de la tierra; y la tierra descubrirá su sangre, y no encubrirá más a sus muertos. ^27:1En aquel día Jehová visitará con su espada dura, grande y fuerte, al leviatán, serpiente huidiza, y al leviatán serpiente tortuosa; y matará al dragón que está en el mar.

^27:2“En aquel día cantadle a ella ‘La viña del vino rojo’. ^27:3Yo Jehová la guardo, cada momento la regaré; la guardaré de noche y de día, para que nadie la dañe. ^27:4No hay enojo en mí. ¿Quién pondrá contra mí en batalla espinos y cardos? yo los hollaré, los quemaré juntamente. ^27:5¿O forzará alguien mi fortaleza? Haga conmigo paz, sí, haga paz conmigo. ^27:6Días vendrán cuando Jacob echará raíces, florecerá y echará renuevos Israel, y la faz del mundo se llenará de fruto”.

^27:7“¿Acaso lo ha herido, como él hirió a quien lo hirió? ¿O ha sido muerto como los que en la matanza por él fueron muertos? ^27:8Con medida lo castigarás en sus vástagos. Él los remueve con su recio viento en el día del aire solano. ^27:9De esta manera, pues, será expiada la iniquidad de Jacob; y éste será todo el fruto, la remoción de su pecado; cuando él haga todas las piedras del altar como piedras de cal desmenuzadas, y ya no sean levantadas las estatuas de Asera, ni las imágenes del sol. ^27:10Porque la ciudad fortificada será desolada, la habitación será abandonada y dejada como un desierto; allí pastará el becerro, allí tendrá su majada, y consumirá sus ramas. ^27:11Cuando sus ramas se sequen, serán quebradas; mujeres vendrán a encenderlas: porque aquél no es pueblo de entendimiento; por tanto su Hacedor no tendrá de él misericordia, ni se compadecerá de él el que lo formó.

^27:12“Y acontecerá en aquel día, que trillará Jehová desde la corriente del río Eufrates hasta el torrente de Egipto, y ustedes, hijos de Israel, seréis reunidos uno a uno.

^27:13“Acontecerá también en aquel día, que se tocará con gran trompeta, y vendrán los que habían sido esparcidos en la tierra de Asiria, y los que habían sido echados en tierra de Egipto, y adorarán a Jehová en el monte santo, en Jerusalén”.
