Isaiah, Chapter 2.4: The Servant of Jehovah will bear the sins of both Jews and Gentiles (49:1 - 55:13)

Introduction: Jehovah has chosen the Messiah to restore Israel to Him, and deliver them from their enemies (49:1 - 50:3)

¶Opposite   Jehovah formed the Messiah from the womb to be his Servant and to bring Jacob again to Him (49:1 - 13)

¶Opposite   Jehovah will deliver the children of Israel from their enemies (49:14 - 50:3)

Body: The Messiah will judge the enemies of the Jews and suffer for our sins (50:4 - 54:17)

¶Unique   The Messiah will comfort Zion (50:4 - 51:8)

¶Complement   Jehovah shall repay the suffering of the Jews upon their enemies (51:9 - 52:12)

^49:1“Listen, O isles, to me; and give heed, you people, from afar. Jehovah has called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother has he made mention of my Name. ^49:2And he has made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand has he hidden me, and made me a polished shaft; in his quiver has he hidden me; ^49:3and he said to me, ‘You are my servant, O Israel, in whom I will be glorified.’” ^49:4Then I said, “I have labored in vain; I have spent my strength for nothing, and in vain; yet surely my judgment is with Jehovah, and my work with my God.”

^49:5“‘And now,’ says Jehovah that formed me from the womb to be his Servant, to bring Jacob again to him, ‘Though Israel is not gathered; yet shall I be glorious in the eyes of Jehovah, and my God shall be my strength.’

^49:6“‘And he said, ‘It is a light thing that you should be my Servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel; I will also give you for a Light to the Gentiles, that you may be my salvation unto the ends of the earth.’”

^49:7“Thus says Jehovah, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One (to him whom man despises, to him whom the nation abhors, to a servant of rulers): ‘Kings shall see and arise; princes also shall worship, because of Jehovah that is faithful, and the Holy One of Israel; and he shall choose you.’

^49:8“Thus says Jehovah: ‘In an acceptable time have I heard you; and in a day of salvation have I helped you; and I will preserve you, and give you for a Covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause you to inherit the desolate heritages, ^49:9that you may say to the prisoners, ‘Go forth’; and to them that are in darkness, ‘Show yourselves.’ They shall feed in the ways, and their pastures shall be in all high places. ^49:10They shall not hunger nor thirst; neither shall the heat nor sun smite them: for he that has mercy on them shall lead them: even by the springs of water shall he guide them. ^49:11And I will make all my mountains a road, and my highways shall be exalted. ^49:12Behold, these shall come from afar; and, see, these shall come from the north and from the west; and these from the land of Sinim. ^49:13Sing, O heavens, and be joyful, O earth, and break forth into singing, O mountains: for Jehovah has comforted his people, and he will have mercy upon his afflicted.’”

¶Opposite   Jehovah will deliver the children of Israel from their enemies (49:14 - 50:3)

^49:14“‘But Zion said, ‘Jehovah has forsaken me, and my Lord has forgotten me.’ ^49:15Can a woman forget her nursing child, so that she would not have compassion on the son of her womb? Indeed, they may forget, yet I will not forget you. ^49:16Behold, I have inscribed you upon the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me. ^49:17Your children shall make haste; your destroyers and they that made you waste shall go forth of you. ^49:18Lift up your eyes round about, and behold: all these gather themselves together, and come to you. As I live,’ says Jehovah, ‘you shall surely clothe yourself with them all as with an ornament; and bind them on you as a bride does: ^49:19for your waste and your desolate places, and the land of your destruction, shall even now be too narrow by reason of the inhabitants, and they that swallowed you up shall be far away. ^49:20The children which you shall have, after you have lost the other, shall say again in your ears, ‘The place is too narrow for me; give space to me that I may dwell.’

^49:21“‘Then shall you say in your heart, ‘Who has begotten me these? Seeing I have lost my children, and am desolate, a captive, and moving to and fro? And who has brought up these? Behold, I was left alone. These, where did they come from?’ ^49:22Thus says the Lord Jehovah: ‘Behold, I will lift up my hand to the Gentiles, and set up my standard to the people; and they shall bring your sons in their arms, and your daughters shall be carried upon their shoulders. ^49:23And kings shall be your nursing fathers, and their queens your nursing mothers; they shall bow down to you with their face toward the earth, and lick up the dust of your feet. And you shall know that I am Jehovah: for they shall not be ashamed that wait for me.’”

^49:24“‘Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captive delivered?’ ^49:25But thus says Jehovah: ‘Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the dreadful shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contends with you, and I will save your children. ^49:26And I will feed them that oppress you with their own flesh; and they shall be drunk with their own blood, as with sweet wine; and all flesh shall know that I Jehovah am your Savior and your Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.’

^50:1“Thus says Jehovah: ‘Where is the bill of your mother's divorce, whom I have put away? Or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your own iniquities have you sold yourselves; and for your own transgressions was your mother put away.

^50:2“‘Why, when I came, was there no man? When I called, was there no one to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? Or have I no power to deliver? Behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea, and I make the rivers a wilderness; their fish stinks, because there is no water, and they die for thirst. ^50:3I clothe the heavens with blackness, and I make sackcloth their covering.’”

§Complement   Body: The Messiah will judge the enemies of the Jews and suffer for our sins (50:4 - 54:17)

^50:4“The Lord Jehovah has given me the tongue of the learned, that I would know how to speak a Word in season to him that is weary; he wakens morning by morning; he wakens my ear to hear as the learned. ^50:5The Lord Jehovah has opened my ear; and I was not rebellious; neither did I turn away back. ^50:6I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair; I hid not my face from shame and spitting. ^50:7For the Lord Jehovah will help me; therefore I shall not be disgraced; therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed. ^50:8He is near that justifies me. Who will contend with me? Let us stand together. Who is my adversary? Let him come near to me. ^50:9Behold, the Lord Jehovah will help me. Who is he that shall condemn me? Lo, they all shall grow old as a garment; the moth shall eat them up.

^50:10“Who is among you that fears Jehovah, that obeys the voice of his Servant, that walks in darkness, and has no light? Let him trust in the Name of Jehovah, and rely upon his God. ^50:11Behold, all you that kindle a fire, that surround yourselves with sparks: walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that you have kindled. This shall you have of my hand; you shall lie down in sorrow.”

^51:1“Listen to me, you that follow after righteousness, you that seek Jehovah: look to the rock from which you were hewn, and to the hole of the pit from which you were dug. ^51:2Look to Abraham your father, and to Sarah that bore you: for I alone called him, blessed him, and increased him. ^51:3For Jehovah shall comfort Zion; he will comfort all her waste places. And he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of Jehovah. Joy and gladness shall be found in it; also thanksgiving, and the voice of melody.

^51:4“Listen to me, my people; and give ear to me, O my nation: for a Law shall proceed from me, and I will make my judgment to rest for a light of the people. ^51:5My righteousness is near; my salvation has gone forth, and my arms shall judge the people. The isles shall wait upon me, and on my arm shall they trust. ^51:6Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath: for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall grow old like a garment, and they that dwell in it shall die in like manner; but my salvation shall be forever; and my righteousness shall not be abolished.

^51:7“Listen to me, you that know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my Law: fear not the reproach of men; neither be afraid of their reviling: ^51:8for the moth shall eat them up like a garment; and the worm shall eat them like wool; but my righteousness shall be forever, and my salvation from generation to generation.”

¶Complement   Jehovah shall repay the suffering of the Jews upon their enemies (51:9 - 52:12)

^51:9“‘Awake, awake! Put on strength, O arm of Jehovah; awake, as in the ancient days, in the generations of old. Are you not the One that has cut Rahab, and wounded the dragon? ^51:10Are you not the One who has dried the sea, the water of the great deep, that has made the depths of the sea a way for the ransomed to pass over? ^51:11Therefore the Redeemed of Jehovah shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and mourning shall flee away. ^51:12I, even I, am he that comforts you. Who are you, that you should be afraid of a man that shall die, and of the son of man who shall be made as grass; ^51:13and you forget Jehovah your Maker (that has stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth); and have been afraid continually every day because of the fury of the oppressor, as if he were ready to destroy? And where is the fury of the oppressor? ^51:14The captive exile hurries that he may be released, and that he should not die in the pit, nor that his bread should fail. ^51:15But I am Jehovah your God that divided the Red sea, whose waves roared: Jehovah of hosts is his Name. ^51:16And I have put my words in your mouth, and I have covered you in the shadow of my hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say to Zion, ‘You are my people!’

^51:17“‘Awake, awake! Stand up, O Jerusalem, which have drunk at the hand of Jehovah the cup of his fury; you have drunk the dregs of the cup of trembling, and wrung them out. ^51:18There is no one to guide her among all the sons whom she has brought forth; neither is there any that takes her by the hand of all the sons that she has brought up. ^51:19These two things have come to you. Who shall be sorry for you? Desolation, destruction, the famine, and the sword. By whom shall I comfort you? ^51:20Your sons have fainted; they lie at the head of all the streets, as a wild bull in a net; they are full of the fury of Jehovah, and the rebuke of your God.’ ^51:21Therefore hear now this, you afflicted, and drunken, but not with wine: ^51:22thus says your Lord Jehovah, and your God that pleads the cause of his people: ‘Behold, I have taken out of your hand the cup of trembling, even the dregs of the cup of my fury; you shall no more drink it again; ^51:23but I will put it into the hand of them that afflict you, who have said to your soul, ‘Bow down, that we may go over’; and you have laid your body as the ground, and as the street, to them that went over.

^52:1“‘Awake, awake! Put on your strength, O Zion; put on your beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city: for henceforth there shall no more come into you the uncircumcised and the unclean. ^52:2Shake yourself from the dust; arise, and sit down, O Jerusalem; release yourself from the bands of your neck, O captive daughter of Zion.’ ^52:3For thus says Jehovah: ‘You have sold yourselves for nothing; and you shall be redeemed without money.’ ^52:4For thus says the Lord Jehovah: ‘My people went down in time past into Egypt to sojourn there; and the Assyrian oppressed them without cause. ^52:5Now therefore, what have I here,’ says Jehovah, ‘that my people are taken away for nothing? They that rule over them make them to howl,’ says Jehovah; ‘and every day my Name is continually blasphemed. ^52:6Therefore my people shall know my Name; therefore they shall know in that day that I am he that speaks: behold, it is I.’”

^52:7“‘How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that brings good tidings, that publishes peace; that brings good news of good, that publishes salvation; that says to Zion, ‘Your God reigns!’ ^52:8Your watchmen shall lift up the voice; with the voice together shall they sing, because they shall see eye to eye, when Jehovah shall bring Zion again. ^52:9Break forth into joy, and sing together, you waste places of Jerusalem: for Jehovah has comforted his people, and he has redeemed Jerusalem. ^52:10Jehovah has made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.

^52:11“‘Depart, depart, go out from there: touch no unclean thing; go out of the midst of her; be clean, you that bear the vessels of Jehovah: ^52:12for you shall not go out with haste, nor go by flight: for Jehovah will go before you; and the God of Israel will be your rear guard.’”

¶Complement   The Messiah will suffer for our transgressions and be bruised for our iniquities (52:13 - 53:12)

^52:13“Behold, my Servant shall deal prudently; he shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high. ^52:14As many were astonished at you (his visage was so marred more than any man; and his form more than the sons of men), ^52:15so shall he sprinkle many nations. The kings shall shut their mouths at him: for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider.”

^53:1“Who has believed our report? And to whom is the arm of Jehovah revealed? ^53:2For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground; he has no form nor majesty; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. ^53:3He is despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief. And we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we did not esteem him. ^53:4Surely he has borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. ^53:5But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and with his stripes we are healed. ^53:6All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and Jehovah has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”

^53:7“He was oppressed; and he was afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth. He is brought as a lamb to the slaughter; and as a sheep before her shearers is mute, so he does not open his mouth. ^53:8He was taken from prison and from judgment. And who shall declare his generation? For he was cut off out of the land of the living. For the transgression of my people was he stricken; ^53:9and he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, because he had done no violence; neither was there any deceit in his mouth.”

^53:10“Yet it pleased Jehovah to bruise him; he has put him to grief. When you shall make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of Jehovah shall prosper in his hand. ^53:11He shall see of the anguish of his soul, and shall be satisfied.”

“By his knowledge shall my righteous Servant justify many: for he shall bear their iniquities. ^53:12Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great; and he shall divide the plunder with the strong, because he has poured out his soul unto death. And he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.”

¶Opposite   The formerly barren nation of Israel shall inherit the Gentiles (54:1 - 10)

^54:1“‘Sing, O barren, you that did not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, you that did not travail with child, because the children of the desolate are more than the children of the married wife,’ says Jehovah. ^54:2‘Enlarge the place of your tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of your habitations; spare not; lengthen your cords and strengthen your stakes, ^54:3because you shall break forth on the right hand and on the left; and your seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited.

^54:4“‘Fear not: for you shall not be ashamed; neither be disgraced, because you shall not be put to shame: for you shall forget the shame of your youth, and shall not remember the reproach of your widowhood any longer.

^54:5“‘For your Maker is your husband (Jehovah of hosts is his Name); and your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel (the God of the whole earth shall he be called).’”

^54:6“‘For Jehovah has called you as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when you were refused,’ says your God. ^54:7‘For a small moment have I forsaken you; but with great mercies will I gather you. ^54:8In a little wrath I hid my face from you for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on you,’ says Jehovah your Redeemer.

^54:9“‘For this is like the waters of Noah to me: because as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no longer go over the earth, so have I sworn that I would not be angry with you, nor rebuke you: ^54:10for the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from you; neither shall the Covenant of my peace be removed,’ says Jehovah that has mercy on you.”

¶Opposite   No weapon formed against Israel shall prosper (54:11 - 17)

^54:11“‘O you afflicted, tossed with tempest and not comforted, behold, I will lay your stones with fair colors, and lay your foundations with sapphires. ^54:12And I will make your windows of agates, and your gates of carbuncles, and all your borders of pleasant stones. And all your children shall be taught of Jehovah; and great shall be the peace of your children. ^54:13In righteousness shall you be established.

“‘You shall be far from oppression: for you shall not fear; and from terror: for it shall not come near you.’”

^54:15“‘Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me; whosoever shall gather together against you shall fall for your sake.

^54:16“‘Behold, I have created the smith that blows the coals in the fire, and that brings forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy.

^54:17“‘But no weapon that is formed against you shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of Jehovah, and their righteousness is of me,’ says Jehovah.”

^55:4“Behold, I have given him for a witness to the people, a leader and commander to the people.

^55:5“Behold, you shall call a nation that you do not know; and nations that did not know you shall run to you because of Jehovah your God, and for the Holy One of Israel: for he has glorified you.”

^55:6“‘Seek Jehovah while he may be found; call upon him while he is near.

^55:8“‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts; neither are your ways my ways,’ says Jehovah. ^55:9‘For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

^55:10“‘For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and does not return there, but waters the earth, and makes it bring forth and bud, that it may give both seed to the sower, and bread to the eater, ^55:11so shall be my Word that goes forth out of my mouth: it shall not return to me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing to which I sent it.

^55:12“‘For you shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace; the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. ^55:13Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree; and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree; and it shall be to Jehovah for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.’”

Vivo yo, dice Jehová, que de todos, como de vestidura de honra, serás vestida; y de ellos serás ceñida como novia: ^49:19porque tus asolamientos, y tus ruinas, y tu tierra desierta, ahora será angosta por la multitud de los moradores; y tus destruidores serán apartados lejos. ^49:20Aun los hijos de tu orfandad dirán a tus oídos, ‘El lugar es demasiado angosto para mí; dame espacio para que pueda habitar’.

^49:21“‘Y dirás en tu corazón, ‘¿Quién me engendró éstos? Porque yo deshijada estaba y sola, peregrina y desterrada: ¿quién, pues, crió éstos? He aquí yo estaba dejada sola; éstos, ¿de dónde ellos vinieron?’. ^49:22Así dijo el Señor Jehová, ‘He aquí, yo alzaré mi mano a los gentiles, y a los pueblos levantaré mi bandera; y traerán en brazos tus hijos, y tus hijas serán traídas en hombros. ^49:23Y reyes serán tus ayos, y sus reinas tus nodrizas; con el rostro inclinado a tierra te adorarán, y lamerán el polvo de tus pies; y conocerás que soy Jehová, que no se avergonzarán los que me esperan’”.

^49:24“‘¿Será quitada la presa al valiente? ¿El justo cautivo, será liberado?’ ^49:25Pero así dice Jehová, ‘Aun los cautivos serán rescatados del valiente, y la presa del tirano será librada: porque yo pelearé con los que peleen contra ti, y yo salvaré a tus hijos. ^49:26Y a los que te oprimen les haré comer sus propias carnes, y con su sangre serán embriagados como con vino dulce; y conocerá toda carne que yo Jehová soy tu Salvador, y tu Redentor, el Fuerte de Jacob’.

^50:1“Así dice Jehová, ‘¿Dónde está la carta de divorcio de vuestra madre, con la cual yo la repudié? ¿O quiénes son mis acreedores, a quienes yo os he vendido? He aquí que por vuestras maldades os habéis vendido, y por vuestras rebeliones fue repudiada vuestra madre.

^50:2“‘¿Por qué cuando vine, no había nadie, y cuando llamé, nadie respondió? ¿Acaso se ha acortado mi mano, para no redimir? ¿No hay en mí poder para librar? He aquí que con mi reprensión hago secar el mar; torno los ríos en desierto, sus peces se pudren, y mueren de sed por falta de agua. ^50:3Visto de oscuridad los cielos, y hago que cilicio sea su cubierta’”.

§El complemento   Cuerpo: El Mesías juzgará a los enemigos de los judíos y sufrirá por sus pecados (50:4 - 54:17)

¶Único   El Mesías consolará a Sión (50:4 - 51:8)

^50:4“El Señor Jehová me dio lengua de sabios, para saber hablar en sazón Palabra al cansado; me despierta mañana tras mañana, despierta mi oído para que oiga como los sabios. ^50:5El Señor Jehová me abrió el oído, y yo no fui rebelde, ni me torné atrás. ^50:6Di mi cuerpo a los heridores, y mis mejillas a los que me mesaban la barba; no escondí mi rostro de injurias y de esputos: ^50:7porque el Señor Jehová me ayudará; por tanto no seré confundido; por eso puse mi rostro como un pedernal, y sé que no seré avergonzado. ^50:8Cercano está el que me justifica; ¿quién contenderá conmigo? Juntémonos. ¿Quién es el adversario de mi causa? Acérquese a mí. ^50:9He aquí que el Señor Jehová me ayudará; ¿quién es el que me condenará? He aquí que todos ellos se envejecerán como ropa de vestir, se los comerá la polilla.

^50:10“¿Quién hay entre ustedes que teme a Jehová, y oye la voz de su Siervo? El que anda en tinieblas y carece de luz, confíe en el Nombre de Jehová, y apóyese en su Dios. ^50:11He aquí que todos ustedes encendéis fuego, y estáis cercados de centellas. Andad a la luz de vuestro fuego, y de las centellas que encendisteis. De mi mano os vendrá esto; en dolor seréis sepultados”.

^51:1“Oídme, los que seguís justicia, los que buscáis a Jehová; mirad a la roca de donde fuisteis cortados, y al hueco de la cantera de donde fuisteis arrancados. ^51:2Mirad a Abraham vuestro padre, y a Sara que os dio a luz: porque lo llamé solo, y lo bendije, y lo multipliqué. ^51:3Ciertamente consolará Jehová a Sión; consolará todos sus lugares desolados, y hará su desierto como el Edén, y su soledad como el huerto de Jehová. Gozo y alegría se hallarán en ella, acciones de gracias y la voz de cánticos.

^51:4“Oídme, pueblo mío, y oídme, nación mía: porque de mí saldrá la Ley, y mi juicio descubriré para luz de pueblos. ^51:5Cercana está mi justicia, ha salido mi salvación, y mis brazos juzgarán a los pueblos; las islas esperarán en mí, y en mi brazo pondrán su esperanza. ^51:6Alzad a los cielos vuestros ojos, y mirad abajo a la tierra: porque los cielos serán deshechos como humo, y la tierra se envejecerá como ropa de vestir, y de la misma manera perecerán sus moradores; pero mi salvación será para siempre, mi justicia no perecerá.

^51:7“Oídme, los que conocéis justicia, pueblo en cuyo corazón está mi Ley. No temáis afrenta de hombre, ni desmayéis por sus injurias: ^51:8porque como a vestidura los comerá la polilla, como a lana los comerá el gusano; pero mi justicia permanecerá para siempre, y mi salvación de generación en generación”.

¶El complemento   Jehová retribuirá el sufrimiento de los judíos sobre sus enemigos (51:9 - 52:12)

^51:9“‘Despiértate, despiértate, vístete de fortaleza, oh brazo de Jehová; despiértate como en el tiempo antiguo, en las generaciones pasadas. ¿No eres tú el que cortó a Rahab, y el que hirió al dragón? ^51:10¿No eres tú el que secó el mar, las aguas del gran abismo; el que transformó en camino las profundidades del mar para que pasasen los redimidos? ^51:11Ciertamente volverán los redimidos de Jehová, volverán a Sión cantando, y gozo perpetuo habrá sobre sus cabezas; tendrán gozo y alegría, y el dolor y el gemido huirán. ^51:12Yo, soy vuestro consolador. ¿Quién eres tú para que tengas temor del hombre, que es mortal, del hijo del hombre, que por heno será contado? ^51:13Y ya te has olvidado de Jehová tu Hacedor, que extendió los cielos y fundó la tierra; y todo el día temiste continuamente del furor del que aflige, cuando se disponía para destruir. ¿Pero en dónde está el furor del que aflige? ^51:14El cautivo en exilio se apresura para ser libertado, para no morir en la mazmorra, y que no le falte su pan. ^51:15Pero soy Jehová tu Dios, que agito el mar y hago rugir sus ondas. Jehová de los ejércitos es su Nombre. ^51:16Y en tu boca he puesto mis palabras, y con la sombra de mi mano te cubrí, para yo plantar los cielos y fundar la tierra, y decir a Sión, ‘¡Tú eres mío pueblo!’

^51:17“‘Despierta, despierta, levántate, oh Jerusalén, que bebiste de la mano de Jehová el cáliz de su ira; los sedimentos del cáliz de aturdimiento bebiste, los exprimiste. ^51:18De todos los hijos que dio a luz, no hay quien la guíe; ni quien la tome de la mano de todos los hijos que crió. ^51:19Estas dos cosas te han acontecido; ¿quién se dolerá de ti? Asolamiento y quebrantamiento, hambre y espada. ¿Quién te consolará? ^51:20Tus hijos desmayaron, estuvieron tendidos en las encrucijadas de todos los caminos, como buey montaraz en la red, llenos del furor de Jehová, de la reprensión de tu Dios’. ^51:21Oye, pues, ahora esto, afligida, ebria, y no de vino: ^51:22así dice Jehová tu Señor, y tu Dios, el cual aboga la causa de su pueblo, ‘He aquí he quitado de tu mano el cáliz de aturdimiento, los sedimentos del cáliz de mi ira; nunca más lo beberás. ^51:23Y lo pondré en la mano de tus angustiadores, que dijeron a tu alma, ‘Póstrate para que pasemos’; y tú pusiste tu cuerpo como tierra, y como calle a los que pasaban.

^52:1“‘Despierta, despierta, vístete tu fortaleza, oh Sión; vístete tu ropa de hermosura, oh Jerusalén, ciudad santa: porque nunca más vendrá a ti incircunciso ni inmundo. ^52:2Sacúdete del polvo; levántate y siéntate, Jerusalén; suéltate de las ataduras de tu cuello, oh cautiva hija de Sión’. ^52:3Porque así dice Jehová, ‘De balde fuisteis vendidos; por tanto, sin dinero seréis rescatados’. ^52:4Porque así dice Jehová el Señor, ‘Mi pueblo descendió a Egipto en tiempo pasado, para peregrinar allá; y el asirio lo oprimió sin razón. ^52:5Y ahora ¿qué tengo yo aquí,’ dice Jehová, ‘ya que mi pueblo es llevado sin haber un por qué? Y los que en él se enseñorean, lo hacen aullar,’ dice Jehová, ‘y continuamente es blasfemado mi Nombre todo el día. ^52:6Por tanto, mi pueblo sabrá mi Nombre por esta causa en aquel día: por tanto sabrán en aquel día que yo soy el que habla: he aquí, soy yo’”.

^52:7“‘¡Cuán hermosos son sobre los montes los pies del que trae alegres nuevas, del que publica la paz, del que trae buenas nuevas del bien, del que publica salvación, del que dice a Sión, ‘Tu Dios reina!’ ^52:8¡Voz de tus atalayas! alzarán la voz, juntamente darán voces de júbilo: porque ojo a ojo verán cuando Jehová vuelve a traer a Sión. ^52:9Prorrumpid de gozo, cantad juntamente, lugares desolados de Jerusalén: porque Jehová ha consolado a su pueblo, a Jerusalén ha redimido. ^52:10Jehová desnudó su santo brazo ante los ojos de todas las naciones; y todos los términos de la tierra verán la salvación de nuestro Dios.

^52:11“‘Apartaos, apartaos, salid de ahí, no toquéis cosa inmunda; salid de en medio de ella; limpiaos los que lleváis los vasos de Jehová: ^52:12porque no saldréis apresurados, ni iréis huyendo: porque Jehová irá delante de ustedes, y será vuestra retaguardia el Dios de Israel’”.

¶El complemento   El Mesías sufrirá por nuestras transgresiones y será herido por nuestras iniquidades (52:13 - 53:12)

^52:13“He aquí que mi siervo será prosperado, será engrandecido y exaltado, y será muy enaltecido. ^52:14Como se asombraron de ti muchos, de tal manera fue desfigurado de los hombres su parecer; y su hermosura más que la de los hijos de los hombres, ^52:15así él rociará muchas naciones; los reyes cerrarán ante él la boca: porque verán lo que nunca les fue contado, y entenderán lo que jamás habían oído”.

^53:1“¿Quién ha creído a nuestro informe? ¿Y sobre quién se ha manifestado el brazo de Jehová? ^53:2Porque crecerá delante de él como una planta tierna, y como una raíz fuera de tierra seca; no tiene forma ni majestad; y cuando lo veamos, no hay belleza que deberíamos querer a él. ^53:3Despreciado y desechado entre los hombres, varón de dolores, experimentado en quebranto; y como que escondimos de él el rostro, fue menospreciado, y no lo estimamos. ^53:4Ciertamente llevó él nuestras enfermedades, y sufrió nuestros dolores; sin embargo, le considerábamos como castigado, herido por Dios y afligido. ^53:5Pero él fue herido por nuestras transgresiones, él estuvo magullado por nuestras iniquidades; el castigo de nuestra paz estaba sobre él, y con las rayas de él, somos sanados. ^53:6Todos nosotros, gustan las ovejas, ha ido por mal camino; hemos dado vuelta cada uno a su propio camino; y Jehová ha puesto sobre él la iniquidad de todos nosotros”.

^53:7“Estaba oprimido; y él fue afligido, sin embargo, no abrió su boca. Es llevado como un cordero a la matanza; y como una oveja delante de sus esquiladores es muda, así que él no abrió su boca. ^53:8De la cárcel y del juicio fue quitado; y su generación ¿quién la contará? Porque cortado fue de la tierra de los vivientes; por la rebelión de mi pueblo fue herido. ^53:9Y se dispuso con los impíos su sepultura, pero con los ricos fue en su muerte; aunque él nunca hizo maldad, ni hubo engaño en su boca”.

^53:10“Sin embargo, a Jehová le agradó herirlo; él le ha puesto en dolor. Cuando harás a su alma una ofrenda por el pecado, verá su descendencia, prolongará sus días y el placer de Jehová prosperará en su mano. ^53:11Él verá la angustia de su alma y estará satisfecho”.

“Por su conocimiento justificará mi Siervo justo a muchos, y él llevará las iniquidades de ellos. ^53:12Por tanto, yo le daré parte con los grandes, y con los fuertes repartirá despojos; por cuanto derramó su alma hasta la muerte, y fue contado con los transgresores; y él llevó el pecado de muchos, e hizo intercesión por los transgresores”.

¶Lo opuesto   La nación de Israel (que antes era estéril) heredará a los gentiles (54:1 - 10)

^54:1“‘Alégrate, oh estéril, la que no daba a luz; levanta canción, y da voces de júbilo, la que nunca estuvo de parto: porque más son los hijos de la dejada que los de la casada,’ dice Jehová. ^54:2‘Ensancha el sitio de tu tienda, y las cortinas de tus habitaciones sean extendidas; no seas escasa; alarga tus cuerdas, y refuerza tus estacas: ^54:3porque a la mano derecha y a la mano izquierda has de crecer; y tu simiente heredará a los gentiles, y habitará las ciudades asoladas.

^54:4“‘No temas, pues no serás avergonzada; y no te avergüences, que no serás afrentada: porque te olvidarás de la vergüenza de tu juventud, y de la afrenta de tu viudez no tendrás más memoria.

^54:5“‘Porque tu marido es tu Hacedor (Jehová de los ejércitos es su Nombre); y tu Redentor, el Santo de Israel (Dios de toda la tierra será llamado)’”.

^54:6“‘Porque como a mujer abandonada y triste de espíritu te llamó Jehová, y como a la esposa de la juventud que es repudiada,’ dice el Dios tuyo. ^54:7‘Por un breve momento te dejé; pero te recogeré con grandes misericordias. ^54:8Con un poco de ira escondí mi rostro de ti por un momento; pero con misericordia eterna tendré compasión de ti,’ dice tu Redentor Jehová.

^54:9“‘Porque esto me será como las aguas de Noé; que juré que nunca más las aguas de Noé pasarían sobre la tierra; así he jurado que no me enojaré contra ti, ni te reprenderé: ^54:10porque los montes se moverán, y los collados temblarán; pero no se apartará de ti mi misericordia, ni el Pacto de mi paz será removido,’ dice Jehová, el que tiene misericordia de ti”.

¶Lo opuesto   Ninguna arma formada contra Israel prosperará (54:11 - 17)

^54:11“‘Oh tú, afligido, lanzado con tempestad y no consolado; he aquí que yo cimentaré tus piedras sobre carbunclo, y sobre zafiros te fundaré. ^54:12Tus ventanas pondré de piedras preciosas, tus puertas de piedras de carbunclo, y toda tu muralla de piedras preciosas. ^54:13Y todos tus hijos serán enseñados de Jehová; y multiplicará la paz de tus hijos. ^54:14Con justicia serás adornada.

“‘Estarás lejos de opresión: porque no temerás; y del terror: porque no se acercará a ti’”.

^54:15“‘Si alguno conspirare contra ti, lo hará sin mí; el que contra ti conspirare, delante de ti caerá.

^54:16“‘He aquí que yo he creado al herrero que sopla las ascuas en el fuego, y que saca la herramienta para su obra; y yo he creado al destruidor para destruir.

^54:17“‘Pero ninguna arma forjada contra ti prosperará; y tú condenarás toda lengua que se levante contra ti en juicio. Ésta es la herencia de los siervos de Jehová, y su justicia viene de mí,’ dice Jehová”.

§El complemento   Conclusión: Ven a Jesús el Mesías y sé bendito (55:1 - 13)

¶El complemento   Jehová ha dado al Mesías un testigo, un líder, y un Comandante del pueblo (55:1 - 5)

^55:1“Levantaos, todos los que tienen sed, y venid al agua; y los que no tienen dinero, venid, comprad, y comed. Venid, comprad, sin dinero y sin precio, vino y leche.

^55:2“¿Por qué gastáis el dinero en lo que no es pan, y vuestro trabajo en lo que no satisface?”.

“Oídme atentamente, y comed del bien, y se deleitará vuestra alma con grosura. ^55:3Inclinad vuestros oídos, y venid a mí; oíd, y vivirá vuestra alma; y haré con ustedes Pacto eterno, las misericordias firmes a David.

^55:4“He aquí, que yo lo di por testigo a los pueblos, por jefe y por maestro a las naciones.

^55:5“He aquí, llamarás un pueblo que no conociste; y naciones que no te conocieron correrán a ti por causa de Jehová tu Dios, y por el Santo de Israel, porque él te ha glorificado”.

¶El complemento   La Palabra de Jehová no volverá a Él vacía, sino que cumplirá lo que Él quiera (55:6 - 13)

^55:6“‘Buscad a Jehová mientras puede ser hallado; invocadlo mientras está cerca.

^55:7“‘Deje que el malvado abandone su camino, y el hombre injusto sus pensamientos; y deje que vuélvase a Jehová, y él tendrá misericordia de él; y a nuestro Dios, porque él perdonará abundantemente’”.

^55:8“‘Porque mis pensamientos no son vuestros pensamientos, tampoco son vuestros caminos mis caminos,’ dice Jehová. ^55:9‘Porque como son más altos los cielos que la tierra, así son mis caminos más altos que vuestros caminos, y mis pensamientos más altos que vuestros pensamientos.

^55:10“‘Porque como la lluvia y la nieve desciende desde los cielos, y no vuelve allá, sino ello riega la tierra, y la hace germinar y producir, que ello puede dar semilla al sembrador y pan al que come, ^55:11así será mi Palabra que sale de mi boca: ello no volverá a mí vacía, sino que logrará lo que yo quiero, y prosperará en aquello a lo que la envié.

^55:12“‘Porque con alegría saldréis, y con paz seréis vueltos; los montes y los collados levantarán canción delante de ustedes, y todos los árboles del campo darán palmadas de aplauso. ^55:13En lugar de la zarza crecerá el ciprés, y en lugar de la ortiga crecerá arrayán; y será a Jehová por nombre, por señal eterna que nunca será raída’”.
