^7:4“‘Do not trust in lying words, saying, ‘The Temple of Jehovah, the Temple of Jehovah, the Temple of Jehovah, are these.’ ^7:5For if you thoroughly amend your ways and your doings, if you thoroughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbor, ^7:6if you do not oppress the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place; neither walk after other gods to your harm, ^7:7then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, forever and ever.

^7:8“‘But behold, you trust in lying words, that cannot profit. ^7:9Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods whom you do not know, ^7:10and then come and stand before me in this House, which is called by my Name, and say, ‘We are saved to do all these abominations’? ^7:11Has this House, which is called by my Name, become a den of thieves in your eyes? Behold, even I have seen it,’ says Jehovah. ^7:12‘But go now to my place which was in Shiloh, where I set my Name at the first, and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel.’”

^7:13“‘And now, because you have done all these works,’ says Jehovah; ‘and I spoke to you, rising up early and speaking, but you did not listen; and I called you, but you did not answer; ^7:14therefore will I do to this House, which is called by my Name, in which you trust, and to the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh. ^7:15And I will cast you out of my sight, as I have cast out all your brethren, even the whole seed of Ephraim.’

^7:16“Therefore pray not for this people; neither lift up a cry nor a prayer for them; neither make intercession to me, because I will not listen to you.”

^7:17“‘Do you not see what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem? ^7:18The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings to other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.

^7:19“‘Do they truly provoke me to anger?’ says Jehovah. ‘Do they not provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces?’ ^7:20Therefore thus says the Lord Jehovah: ‘Behold, my anger and my fury shall be poured out upon this place: upon man, upon beast, upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched.’”

^7:21“Thus says Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: ‘Put your burnt offerings to your sacrifices, and eat flesh: ^7:22for I did not speak to your fathers, nor did I command them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices; ^7:23but this thing I commanded them, saying, ‘Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people; and walk in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well to you.’

^7:24“‘But they did not listen, nor incline their ear; but walked in the counsels and in the stubbornness of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward. ^7:25Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt until this day I have even sent to you all my servants the Prophets, daily rising up early and sending them, ^7:26yet they did not listen to me, nor incline their ear; but instead hardened their neck: they did worse than their fathers.’

^7:27“Therefore you shall speak all these words to them, but they will not listen to you; you shall also call to them, but they will not answer you. ^7:28But you shall say to them, ‘This is a nation that does not obey the voice of Jehovah their God, nor receives correction. Truth has perished, and is cut off from their mouth.’”

^7:32“‘Therefore, behold, the days are coming,’ says Jehovah, ‘that it shall no longer be called Tophet, nor the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter: for they shall bury in Tophet, until there is no room left. ^7:33And the corpses of this people shall be food for the birds of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth; and no one will chase them away.

^7:34“‘Then will I cause to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of laughter, the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride: for the land shall be desolate.’”

^8:1“‘At that time,’ says Jehovah, ‘they shall bring out the bones of the kings of Judah, and the bones of his princes, and the bones of the priests, and the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, out of their graves; ^8:2and they shall spread them before the sun, the moon, and all the constellations of the zodiac, whom they have loved, and whom they have served, and after whom they have walked, and whom they have sought, and whom they have worshipped. They shall not be gathered, nor buried; they shall be for dung upon the face of the earth.

^8:3“‘And death shall be chosen rather than life by all the rest of them that remain of this evil family, that remain in all the places where I have driven them,’ says Jehovah of hosts.”

^8:4“Moreover you shall say to them, ‘Thus says Jehovah: Shall they fall, and not arise? Shall he turn away, and not return? ^8:5Why then have this people of Jerusalem slidden back by a perpetual backsliding? They hold fast deceit; they refuse to return. ^8:6I listened and heard, but they did not speak rightly; no man repented of his wickedness, saying, ‘What have I done?’ Every one turned to his own way, as the horse rushes into the battle. ^8:7Moreover, the stork in the heaven knows her appointed times, and the turtledove and the crane and the swallow observe the time of their coming; but my people do not know the judgment of Jehovah. ^8:8How can you say, ‘We are wise, and the Law of Jehovah is with us? See, he certainly made it in vain; the pen of the scribes is in vain.’ ^8:9The wise men are ashamed; they are dismayed and taken. See, they have rejected the Word of Jehovah; and what wisdom is in them? ^8:10Therefore will I give their wives to others, and their fields to them that shall inherit them: for every one from the least even to the greatest is given to covetousness, and from the prophet even to the priest every one deals falsely: ^8:11for they have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people superficially, saying, ‘Peace, peace’; when there is no peace.

^8:12“‘Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? No, they were not at all ashamed; neither could they blush; therefore they shall fall among them that fall; in the time of their visitation they shall be cast down,’ says Jehovah. ^8:13‘I will surely consume them,’ says Jehovah; ‘there shall be no grapes on the vine, nor figs on the fig tree, and the leaf shall fade; and the things that I have given them shall pass away from them.’”

^8:14“Why do we sit still? Assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the fortified cities, and let us be silent there: for Jehovah our God has put us to silence, and given us water of gall to drink, because we have sinned against Jehovah. ^8:15We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of health, and behold trouble!”

^8:16“‘The snorting of his horses was heard from Dan; the whole land trembled at the sound of the neighing of his strong ones: for they have come, and devoured the land, and all that is in it: the city, and those that dwell in it. ^8:17For, behold, I will send serpents and vipers among you, which will not be charmed; and they shall bite you,’ says Jehovah.

^8:18“‘When I would comfort myself against sorrow, my heart is faint in me. ^8:19Behold the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people because of them that dwell in a far country. Is not Jehovah in Zion? Is not her king in her? Why have they provoked me to anger with their carved images, and with strange vanities?’”

^8:20“The harvest is past; the summer is over; and we are not saved. ^8:21For the hurt of the daughter of my people I am hurt; I am black; astonishment has taken hold on me. ^8:22Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? Why then is the health of the daughter of my people not recovered? ^9:1Oh that my head were waters, and my eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people! ^9:2Oh that I had in the wilderness a lodging place of traveling men, that I might leave my people, and go from them! For they are all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men.”

^9:3“‘And they bend their tongues like their bow for lies; but they are not valiant for the truth upon the earth: for they proceed from evil to evil, and they do not know me,’ says Jehovah. ^9:4‘Every one take heed of his neighbor, and trust not in any brother: for every brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbor will walk with slanders. ^9:5And they will deceive every one his neighbor, and will not speak the truth. They have taught their tongue to speak lies, and weary themselves to commit iniquity.

^9:6“‘Your habitation is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me,’ says Jehovah. ^9:7Therefore thus says Jehovah of hosts: ‘Behold, I will melt them, and test them: for what shall I do for the daughter of my people? ^9:8Their tongue is like an arrow shot out; it speaks deceit. One speaks peacefully to his neighbor with his mouth, but in heart he lays in wait.’”

^9:9“‘Shall I not visit them for these things?’ says Jehovah. ‘Shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this? ^9:10For the mountains will I take up a weeping and wailing, and for the habitations of the wilderness a lamentation, because they are burned up, so that no one can pass through them; neither can men hear the voice of the cattle; both the bird of the heavens and the beast have fled: they are gone. ^9:11And I will make Jerusalem heaps of rubbish, and a den of dragons; and I will make the cities of Judah desolate, without an inhabitant.

^9:12“‘Who is the wise man, that he may understand this? And who is he to whom the mouth of Jehovah has spoken, that he may declare it, for what the land perishes and is burned up like a wilderness, so that no one passes through?’ ^9:13And Jehovah says, ‘Because they have forsaken my Law which I set before them, and have not obeyed my voice; neither walked in it; ^9:14but have walked after the stubbornness of their own heart, and after Baalim, which their fathers taught them,’ ^9:15therefore thus says Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: ‘Behold, I will feed them, even this people, with wormwood, and give them water of gall to drink. ^9:16I will also scatter them among the heathen, whom neither they nor their fathers have known; and I will send a sword after them, until I have consumed them.’”

^9:22“Speak, saying, ‘Thus says Jehovah: Even the corpses of men shall fall as dung upon the open field, and as the handful after the harvestman, and no one shall gather them.’”

^9:23“Thus says Jehovah: ‘Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom; neither let the mighty man glory in his might, and let the rich man not glory in his riches; ^9:24but let him that glories glory in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am Jehovah who exercises lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight,’ says Jehovah.

^9:25“‘Behold, the days are coming,’ says Jehovah, ‘that I will punish all who are circumcised with the uncircumcised: ^9:26Egypt, Judah, Edom, the children of Ammon, Moab, and all that are in the utmost corners, that dwell in the wilderness: for all these nations are uncircumcised; and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in the heart.’”

Be not afraid of them: for they cannot do evil; neither also is it in them to do good.’”

^10:6“Forasmuch as there is no one like you, O Jehovah. You are great, and your Name is great in might. ^10:7Who would not fear you, O King of nations? For to you does it appertain; forasmuch as among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is no one like you.”

^10:8“But they are altogether carnal and foolish; the wooden idol is a doctrine of vanities. ^10:9Silver beaten into plates is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz: the work of the workman, and of the hands of the goldsmith; their clothing is blue and purple; they are all the work of skillful men.

^10:10“But Jehovah is the true God; he is the Living God, and an Everlasting King; at his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to endure his indignation. ^10:11Thus shall you say to them, ‘The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, even they shall perish from the earth, and from under these heavens.’ ^10:12He has made the earth by his power; he has established the world by his wisdom, and has stretched out the heavens by his discretion. ^10:13When he utters his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens, and he causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; he makes lightning with rain, and brings forth the wind out of his treasures.

^10:14“Every man is stupid in his knowledge; every goldsmith is ashamed by the engraved image: for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them. ^10:15They are vanity, and the work of errors; in the time of their visitation they shall perish. ^10:16But the Portion of Jacob is not like them: for he is the Maker of all things, and Israel is the rod of his inheritance; Jehovah of hosts is his Name.”

^10:23“O Jehovah, I know that the way of man is not in himself; it is not in man that walks to direct his steps.

^10:24“O Jehovah, correct me, but with judgment; not in your anger, lest you bring me to nothing.

^10:25“Pour out your fury upon the heathen that do not know you, and upon the families that call not on your Name: for they have eaten up Jacob, and devoured him, and consumed him, and have made his habitation desolate.”

^11:6Then Jehovah said to me, “Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, ‘Hear the words of this Covenant, and do them: ^11:7for I earnestly exhorted your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even until this day, rising early and exhorting them, saying, ‘Obey my voice.’ ^11:8Yet they obeyed not, nor inclined their ear, but walked every one in the stubbornness of their evil heart; therefore I will bring upon them all the words of this Covenant, which I commanded them to do; but they did not do them.’”

^11:9And Jehovah said to me, “A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem. ^11:10They have turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, who refused to hear my words; and they went after other gods to serve them; the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my Covenant which I made with their fathers. ^11:11Therefore thus says Jehovah: ‘Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry to me, I will not listen to them. ^11:12Then shall the cities of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem go and cry to the gods to whom they offer incense; but they shall not save them at all in the time of their trouble: ^11:13for according to the number of your cities were your gods, O Judah; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem have you set up altars to that shameful thing, even altars to burn incense to Baal. ^11:14Therefore pray not for this people; neither lift up a cry or a prayer for them, because I will not hear them in the time that they cry to me for their trouble.

^11:15“‘What has my beloved to do in my House, seeing she has wrought lewdness with many, and the holy flesh has passed from you? When you do evil, then you rejoice. ^11:16Jehovah called your name, ‘A green olive tree’: lovely, and of good fruit; with the noise of a great tumult he has kindled fire upon it, and its branches are broken: ^11:17for Jehovah of hosts, that planted you, has pronounced evil against you, for the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have done against themselves to provoke me to anger in offering incense to Baal.’”

^11:18“And Jehovah has given me knowledge of it, and I know it; then you showed me their doings. ^11:19But I was like a lamb or an ox brought to the slaughter; and I did not know that they had devised schemes against me, saying, “Let us destroy the tree with its fruit, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may not be remembered anymore.” ^11:20But, O Jehovah of hosts, that judges righteously, that tests the reins and the heart, let me see your vengeance on them, because I have revealed my cause to you.” ^11:21“Therefore thus says Jehovah of the men of Anathoth, that seek your life, saying, ‘Prophesy not in the Name of Jehovah, that you die not by our hand!’; ^11:22therefore thus says Jehovah of hosts: ‘Behold, I will punish them: the young men shall die by the sword; their sons and their daughters shall die by famine; ^11:23and there shall be no remnant of them: for I will bring evil upon the men of Anathoth, even the year of their visitation.’”

^7:13“‘Y ahora, por cuanto ustedes habéis hecho todas estas obras,’ dice Jehová, ‘y bien que os hablé, madrugando para hablar, no oísteis, y os llamé, y no respondisteis; ^7:14haré también a esta Casa que es llamada por mi Nombre, en la que ustedes confiáis, y a este lugar que di a ustedes y a vuestros padres, como hice a Silo. ^7:15Y os echaré de mi presencia como eché a todos vuestros hermanos, a toda la descendencia de Efraín’.

^7:16“Tú pues, no ores por este pueblo, ni levantes por ellos clamor ni oración, ni me ruegues: porque no te oiré”.

¶Lo opuesto   Desobedecéis los mandamientos de Jehová (7:17 - 28)

^7:17“‘¿No ves lo que éstos hacen en las ciudades de Judá y en las calles de Jerusalén? ^7:18Los hijos recogen la leña, y los padres encienden el fuego, y las mujeres amasan la masa, para hacer tortas a la reina del cielo y para hacer ofrendas a dioses ajenos, para provocarme a ira.

^7:19“‘¿Realmente me provocan a la ira?’ dice Jehová, ‘¿No se provocan ellos mismos a la confusión de sus propios rostros?’. ^7:20Por tanto, así dice el Señor Jehová, ‘He aquí que mi furor y mi ira se derrama sobre este lugar, sobre los hombres, sobre los animales, sobre los árboles del campo, y sobre los frutos de la tierra; y se encenderá, y no se apagará’”.

^7:21“Así dice Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel, ‘Añadid vuestros holocaustos sobre vuestros sacrificios, y comed carne: ^7:22porque no hablé yo con vuestros padres el día que los saqué de la tierra de Egipto, ni les di mandamiento acerca de holocaustos y de víctimas. ^7:23Pero esto les mandé, diciendo, ‘Obedeced mi voz, y yo seré vuestro Dios, y ustedes seréis mi pueblo; y andad en todo camino que os he mandado, para que os vaya bien’.

^7:24“‘Pero ellos no escucharon ni inclinaron su oído; antes caminaron en sus consejos, en la dureza de su corazón malvado, y fueron hacia atrás y no hacia adelante. ^7:25Desde el día que vuestros padres salieron de la tierra de Egipto hasta hoy, os envié a todos los Profetas mis siervos a ustedes, madrugando cada día y enviándolos, ^7:26pero no me escucharon ni inclinaron su oído; antes endurecieron su cerviz: ellos hicieron peor que sus padres’.

^7:27“Tú, pues, les dirás todas estas palabras, pero no te oirán; los llamarás, y no te responderán. ^7:28Les dirás por tanto, ‘Ésta es la nación que no obedeció la voz de Jehová su Dios, ni admitió corrección; pereció la verdad, y de la boca de ellos fue cortada’”.

§El complemento   Cuerpo: El pueblo del antiguo pacto de Sión estaba madura para el juicio de Dios (7:29 - 10:16)

¶Lo opuesto   Se acerca el día en que el valle de Tophet estará completamente lleno de tumbas (7:29 - 8:3)

^7:29“‘Corta tu cabello, oh Jerusalén, y arrójalo, y levanta llanto sobre las alturas: porque Jehová ha desechado y abandonado a la generación objeto de su ira: ^7:30porque los hijos de Judá han hecho lo malo ante mis ojos,’ dice Jehová; ‘pusieron sus abominaciones en la Casa sobre la cual mi Nombre es invocado, amancillándola. ^7:31Y han edificado los lugares altos de Tofet, que está en el valle del hijo de Hinom, para quemar al fuego a sus hijos y a sus hijas, cosa que yo no les mandé, ni subió en mi corazón.

^7:32“‘Por tanto, he aquí vendrán días,’ dice Jehová, ‘que no se dirá más, Tofet, ni valle del hijo de Hinom, sino valle de la Matanza; y serán enterrados en Tofet, por no haber lugar. ^7:33Y los cadáveres de este pueblo servirán de comida a las aves del cielo y a las bestias de la tierra; y no habrá quien las espante.

^7:34“‘Entonces haré cesar de las ciudades de Judá, y de las calles de Jerusalén, la voz de gozo y la voz de alegría, la voz de desposado y la voz de desposada: porque la tierra será desolada’”.

^8:1“‘En aquel tiempo,’ dice Jehová, sacarán los huesos de los reyes de Judá, y los huesos de sus príncipes, y los huesos de los sacerdotes, y los huesos de los profetas, y los huesos de los moradores de Jerusalén, fuera de sus sepulcros; ^8:2y los esparcirán al sol y a la luna y a todo el ejército del cielo, a quienes amaron y a quienes sirvieron, y en pos de quienes anduvieron, a quienes consultaron, y a quienes adoraron. No serán recogidos, ni enterrados; serán como estiércol sobre la faz de la tierra.

^8:3“‘Y se escogerá la muerte antes que la vida por todo el remanente que quedare de esta mala generación, en todos los lugares adonde arrojaré yo a los que quedaren,’ dice Jehová de los ejércitos”.

¶Lo opuesto   El sonido del Juicio de Dios no estaba muy lejos (8:4 - 19)

^8:4“Asimismo, les dirás: ‘Así dice Jehová: El que cae, ¿no se levanta? El que se desvía, ¿no regresa al camino? ^8:5¿Por qué es este pueblo de Jerusalén rebelde con rebeldía perpetua? Se aferran al engaño, rehúsan volver. ^8:6Escuché y oí; pero no hablan derecho, no hay hombre que se arrepienta de su mal, diciendo, ‘¿Qué he hecho?’ Cada cual se volvió a su carrera, como caballo que arremete con ímpetu a la batalla. ^8:7Aun la cigüeña en el cielo conoce su tiempo, y la tórtola y la grulla y la golondrina guardan el tiempo de su venida; pero mi pueblo no conoce el juicio de Jehová. ^8:8¿Cómo decís, ‘Nosotros somos sabios, y la Ley de Jehová está con nosotros? Ciertamente, he aquí que en vano se cortó la pluma, por demás fueron los escribas’. ^8:9Los sabios se avergonzaron, se espantaron y fueron presos; he aquí que aborrecieron la Palabra de Jehová; ¿y qué sabiduría tienen? ^8:10Por tanto, daré sus esposas a otros, y sus campos a quienes los posean: porque desde el chico hasta el grande cada uno sigue la avaricia, desde el profeta hasta el sacerdote todos practican el engaño. ^8:11Y curaron el quebrantamiento de la hija de mi pueblo con liviandad, diciendo, ‘Paz, paz’; y no hay paz.

^8:12“‘¿Se avergonzaron de haber hecho abominación? Ciertamente no se han avergonzado, ni siquiera se han ruborizado; por tanto, caerán entre los que caigan, cuando los castigue, caerán,’ dice Jehová. ^8:13‘Los destruiré del todo,’ dice Jehová. ‘No habrá uvas en la vid, ni higos en la higuera, y se caerá la hoja; y lo que les he dado pasará de ellos’”.

^8:14“¿Por qué nos estamos sentados? Congregaos, y entremos en las ciudades fortificadas, y allí reposaremos: porque Jehová nuestro Dios nos ha hecho callar, dándonos a beber bebida de hiel: porque pecamos contra Jehová. ^8:15¡Esperamos paz, y no hubo bien; tiempo de sanidad, y he aquí turbación!”.

^8:16“‘Desde Dan se oyó el bufido de sus caballos; del sonido de los relinchos de sus fuertes tembló toda la tierra; y vinieron y devoraron la tierra y su abundancia, ciudad y moradores de ella: ^8:17porque he aquí que yo envío sobre ustedes serpientes, áspides, contra las cuales no hay encantamiento; y os morderán,’ dice Jehová.

^8:18“‘A causa de mi fuerte dolor mi corazón desfallece en mí. ^8:19He aquí la voz del clamor de la hija de mi pueblo, a causa de los que moran en tierra lejana. ¿No está Jehová en Sión? ¿No está en ella su Rey? ¿Por qué me provocaron a ira con sus imágenes de talla, y con vanidades extrañas?’”.

¶El complemento   Las bocas del pueblo estaban llenas de engaño y mentiras (8:20 - 9:16)

^8:20“Pasó la siega, terminó el verano, y nosotros no hemos sido salvos. ^8:21Quebrantado estoy por el quebrantamiento de la hija de mi pueblo; entenebrecido estoy, espanto me ha arrebatado. ^8:22¿No hay bálsamo en Galaad? ¿No hay allí médico? ¿Por qué, pues, no se ha restablecido la salud de la hija de mi pueblo? ^9:1¡Oh si mi cabeza se hiciese aguas, y mis ojos fuentes de lágrimas, para que llore día y noche los muertos de la hija de mi pueblo! ^9:2¡Oh quién me diese en el desierto un mesón de caminantes, para que dejase mi pueblo, y de ellos me apartase! Porque todos son adúlteros, una asamblea de hombres traidores”.

^9:3“‘Y doblan sus lenguas como su arco por mentiras; pero no son valientes para la verdad en la tierra: porque de mal en mal procedieron, y me han desconocido,’ dice Jehová. ^9:4‘Guárdese cada uno de su compañero, y en ningún hermano tenga confianza: porque todo hermano engaña con falacia, y todo compañero anda con calumniadores. ^9:5Y cada uno engaña a su compañero, y no habla verdad; enseñaron su lengua a hablar mentira, y se ocupan de hacer perversamente.

^9:6“‘Tu morada es en medio de engaño; de muy engañadores no quisieron conocerme,’ dice Jehová. ^9:7Por tanto, así dice Jehová de los ejércitos, ‘He aquí que yo los refinaré, y los probaré: porque ¿qué he de hacer por la hija de mi pueblo? ^9:8Saeta afilada es la lengua de ellos; engaño habla; con su boca habla paz con su amigo, pero dentro de sí pone sus asechanzas’”.

^9:9“‘¿No habré de castigarles por estas cosas?’ dice Jehová. ‘¿No ha de vengarse mi alma de una gente como ésta? ^9:10Sobre los montes levantaré lloro y lamentación, y llanto sobre los pastos del desierto: porque desolados fueron hasta no quedar quien pase, ni oyeron bramido de ganado; desde las aves del cielo hasta las bestias de la tierra huyeron, y se fueron. ^9:11Y convertiré a Jerusalén en un montón de ruinas, en guarida de dragones; y de las ciudades de Judá haré asolamiento, que no quede morador.

^9:12“‘¿Quién es varón sabio que entienda esto? ¿Y a quién habló la boca de Jehová, para que pueda declararlo? ¿Por qué causa la tierra ha perecido, ha sido asolada como desierto, que no hay quien pase?’ ^9:13Y dijo Jehová, ‘Porque dejaron mi Ley, la cual di delante de ellos, y no obedecieron a mi voz, ni caminaron conforme a ella; ^9:14antes se fueron tras la imaginación de su corazón, y en pos de los Baales que les enseñaron sus padres: ^9:15por tanto así dice Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel, ‘He aquí que a este pueblo yo les daré a comer ajenjo, y les daré a beber aguas de hiel. ^9:16Y los esparciré entre gentes que ni ellos ni sus padres conocieron; y enviaré espada en pos de ellos, hasta que yo los acabe’”.

¶El complemento   Enseña a tus hijas a llorar y llorar, porque los cadáveres de los hombres de Judá caerán como estiércol en campo abierto (9:17 - 26)

^9:17“Así dice Jehová de los ejércitos, ‘Considerad, y llamad plañideras que vengan; y enviad por las mujeres hábiles, que vengan; ^9:18que se den prisa y hagan lamento sobre nosotros, para que nuestros ojos derramen lágrimas, y nuestros párpados destilen aguas: ^9:19porque voz de endecha fue oída de Sión, ‘¡Cómo hemos sido destruidos! en gran manera hemos sido confundidos: porque dejamos la tierra: porque nos han echado de sí nuestras moradas’’.

^9:20“‘Oíd, pues, oh mujeres, Palabra de Jehová, y vuestro oído reciba la Palabra de su boca; y enseñad endechas a vuestras hijas, y cada una a su amiga, lamentación: ^9:21porque la muerte ha subido por nuestras ventanas, ha entrado en nuestros palacios; para talar a los niños de las calles y a los jóvenes de las plazas’.

^9:22“Habla, ‘Así dice Jehová: Los cuerpos de los hombres muertos caerán como estiércol sobre la faz del campo, y como manojo tras el segador, que no hay quien lo recoja’”.

^9:23Así dice Jehová, ‘No se alabe el sabio en su sabiduría, ni en su valentía se alabe el valiente, ni el rico se alabe en su riqueza. ^9:24Pero el que se hubiere de alabar, alábese en esto; en entenderme y conocerme, que soy Jehová, que hago misericordia, juicio y justicia en la tierra: porque en estas cosas me complazco,’ dice Jehová.

^9:25“‘He aquí que vienen días,’ dice Jehová, ‘y visitaré sobre todo circuncidado, y sobre todo incircunciso: ^9:26a Egipto y a Judá, a Edom y a los hijos de Amón y de Moab, y a todos los arrinconados en el postrer rincón, que moran en el desierto: porque todas las naciones son incircuncisas, y toda la casa de Israel es incircuncisa de corazón’”.

¶Único   Jehová es el Dios verdadero, el Dios viviente y un Rey eterno, que destruirá los ídolos de Judá (10:1 - 16)

^10:1Oíd la Palabra que Jehová ha hablado sobre ustedes, oh casa de Israel: ^10:2“Así dice Jehová, ‘No aprendáis el camino de las gentes, ni de las señales del cielo tengáis temor, aunque las gentes las teman: ^10:3porque las costumbres de los pueblos son vanidad; pues cortan el leño del bosque con el hacha, es obra de manos de artífice. ^10:4Lo adornan con plata y oro; con clavos y martillo lo afirman para que no se mueva. ^10:5Erguidos están como palmera, pero no hablan; necesitan ser llevados porque no pueden andar. No tengáis temor de ellos: porque no pueden hacer mal, ni para hacer bien tienen poder’”.

^10:6“No hay nadie como tú, oh Jehová; grande eres tú, y grande es tu Nombre en poder. ^10:7¿Quién no te temerá, oh Rey de las naciones? Porque a ti corresponde: porque entre todos los sabios de las naciones, y en todos sus reinos, no hay nadie como tú”.

^10:8“Pero son del todo torpes y necios. Enseñanza de vanidades es el leño. ^10:9Plata extendida es traída de Tarsis, y oro de Ufaz; obra del artífice y de manos del fundidor; azul y púrpura es su vestidura; obra de peritos es todo.

^10:10“Pero Jehová es el verdadero Dios; él es el Dios viviente y un Rey eterno; ante su ira la tierra temblará, y las naciones no podrán aguantar su indignación. ^10:11Así les dirás: “Los dioses que no han creado los cielos y la tierra, aun ellos perecerán de la tierra y de debajo de estos cielos”. ^10:12Él ha hecho la tierra por su poder; él ha establecido el mundo por su sabiduría, y ha extendido los cielos por su discreción. ^10:13Cuando él pronuncia su voz, hay una multitud de aguas en los cielos; y él hace a los vapores ascender desde los confines de la tierra; él hace relámpagos con la lluvia, y el trae el viento fuera de sus tesoros.

^10:14“Todo hombre se embrutece en su entendimiento; avergüéncese de su ídolo todo fundidor: porque mentira es su obra de fundición, y no hay espíritu en ella. ^10:15Vanidad son, obra irrisoria; en el tiempo de su visitación perecerán. ^10:16No es como ellos la suerte de Jacob: porque él es el Hacedor de todo, e Israel es la vara de su herencia: Jehová de los ejércitos es su Nombre”.

§Único   Conclusión: El profeta Jeremías pidió clemencia para sí mismo, pero rezó por vengarse de sus enemigos (10:17 - 11:23)

¶El complemento   Oh Jehová, corrígeme, pero no en ira (10:17 - 25)

^10:17“‘Recoge de las tierras tus pertenencias, tú que moras en lugar fuerte’. ^10:18Porque así dice Jehová, ‘He aquí que esta vez arrojaré con honda los moradores de la tierra, y los afligiré, para que lo hallen así.

^10:19“‘¡Ay de mí, por mi quebrantamiento! Mi llaga es muy dolorosa. Pero yo dije, ‘Ciertamente enfermedad mía es ésta, y debo sufrirla’. ^10:20Mi Tienda es destruida, y todas mis cuerdas están rotas; mis hijos se han ido de mí, y perecieron. No hay ya quien levante mi tienda, ni quien ponga mis cortinas: ^10:21porque los pastores se infatuaron, y no buscaron a Jehová; por tanto, no prosperaron, y todo su rebaño será dispersado. ^10:22He aquí que voz de rumor viene, y alboroto grande de la tierra del norte, para tornar en soledad todas las ciudades de Judá, en guarida de dragones’”.

^10:23“Conozco, oh Jehová, que el hombre no es señor de su camino, ni del hombre que camina el ordenar sus pasos.

^10:24“Castígame, oh Jehová, pero con juicio; no con tu furor, para que no me aniquiles.

^10:25“Derrama tu enojo sobre las gentes que no te conocen, y sobre las naciones que no invocan tu Nombre: porque se comieron a Jacob, le devoraron, le han consumido, y han asolado su morada”.

¶El complemento   Oh Jehová, déjame ver tu venganza sobre ellos (11:1 - 23)

^11:1La Palabra de Jehová, que llegó a Jeremías, diciendo, ^11:2“Oíd las palabras de este Pacto, y hablad a todo varón de Judá, y a todo morador de Jerusalén. ^11:3Y les dirás tú, ‘Así dice Jehová Dios de Israel: Maldito el varón que no obedeciere las palabras de este Pacto, ^11:4el cual mandé a vuestros padres el día que los saqué de la tierra de Egipto, del horno de hierro, diciéndoles, ‘Obedeced mi voz, y haced conforme a todo lo que os mando, y ustedes seréis mi pueblo, y yo seré vuestro Dios’; ^11:5para que confirme el juramento que hice a vuestros padres, que les daría la tierra que fluye leche y miel, como en este día’”. Y respondí, y dije, “Amén, oh Jehová”.

^11:6Y Jehová me dijo, “Pregona todas estas palabras en las ciudades de Judá y en las calles de Jerusalén, diciendo, ‘Oíd las palabras de este Pacto, y ponedlas por obra: ^11:7porque solemnemente protesté a vuestros padres el día que los hice subir de la tierra de Egipto hasta el día de hoy, desde muy temprano, protestando y diciendo, ‘Obedeced mi voz’. ^11:8Pero no obedecieron, ni inclinaron su oído, antes se fueron cada uno tras la imaginación de su malvado corazón; por tanto, traeré sobre ellos todas las palabras de este Pacto, el cual mandé que cumpliesen, y no lo cumplieron’”.

^11:9Y me dijo Jehová, “Conspiración se ha hallado entre los varones de Judá, y entre los moradores de Jerusalén. ^11:10Se han vuelto a las maldades de sus primeros padres, los cuales no quisieron escuchar mis palabras, antes se fueron tras dioses ajenos para servirles; la casa de Israel y la casa de Judá quebrantaron mi Pacto, el cual yo había concertado con sus padres. ^11:11Por tanto, así dice Jehová, ‘He aquí yo traigo sobre ellos mal del que no podrán escapar; y clamarán a mí, y no los oiré. ^11:12E irán las ciudades de Judá y los moradores de Jerusalén, y clamarán a los dioses a quienes queman ellos incienso, los cuales no los podrán salvar en el tiempo de su mal: ^11:13porque según el número de tus ciudades fueron tus dioses, oh Judá; y según el número de tus calles, oh Jerusalén, pusisteis los altares de ignominia, altares para ofrecer incienso a Baal. ^11:14Tú pues, no ores por este pueblo, ni levantes por ellos clamor ni oración: porque yo no oiré el día que en su aflicción a mí clamen.

^11:15“‘¿Qué tiene que hacer mi amada en mi Casa, habiendo hecho tantas abominaciones? Y las carnes santas se pasarán de ti: porque en tu maldad te gloriaste. ^11:16‘Olivo verde’, hermoso en fruto y en parecer, llamó Jehová tu nombre. A la voz de gran estrépito hizo encender fuego sobre él, y quebraron sus ramas. ^11:17Pues Jehová de los ejércitos, que te plantó, ha pronunciado mal contra ti, a causa de la maldad de la casa de Israel y de la casa de Judá, que hicieron contra sí mismos, provocándome a ira al ofrecer incienso a Baal’”.

^11:18“Y Jehová me lo hizo saber, y lo entendí; entonces me hiciste ver sus obras. ^11:19Y yo era como cordero inocente que es llevado al matadero, pues no entendía que maquinaban designios contra mí, diciendo, “Destruyamos el árbol con su fruto, y cortémoslo de la tierra de los vivientes, y no haya más memoria de su nombre”. ^11:20Pero, oh Jehová de los ejércitos, que juzgas justicia, que escudriñas la mente y el corazón, vea yo tu venganza de ellos: porque a ti he expuesto mi causa”. ^11:21“Por tanto, así dice Jehová acerca de los varones de Anatot, que buscan tu vida, diciendo, ‘¡No profetices en Nombre de Jehová, para que no mueras a nuestras manos!’. ^11:22Así, pues,’ dice Jehová de los ejércitos, ‘He aquí que yo los castigaré; los jóvenes morirán a espada; sus hijos y sus hijas morirán de hambre; ^11:23y no quedará remanente de ellos: porque yo traeré mal sobre los varones de Anatot, el año de su visitación’”.
