^17:24“‘And it shall come to pass, if you diligently give heed to me,’ says Jehovah, ‘to bring in no burden through the gates of this city on the Sabbath day, but hallow the Sabbath day, to do no work in it, ^17:25then shall there enter into the gates of this city kings and princes sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses: they, their princes, the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and this city shall remain forever. ^17:26And they shall come from the cities of Judah, and from the places round about Jerusalem, and from the land of Benjamin, and from the plain, and from the mountains, and from the south, bringing burnt offerings, sacrifices, meal offerings, and incense; and bringing sacrifices of praise, to the House of Jehovah.

^17:27“‘But if you will not give heed to me to hallow the Sabbath day, and not to bear a burden when entering in at the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, then will I kindle a fire in its gates, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem, and shall not be quenched.’”

^18:3Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he worked a work on the wheels. ^18:4And the jar that he made of clay was flawed in the hand of the potter; therefore he made it again another jar, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

^18:5Then the Word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ^18:6“‘O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter?’ says Jehovah.

“‘Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel.

^18:7“‘At whatever instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom (to pluck up, to pull down, and to destroy it), ^18:8if that nation, against whom I have pronounced judgment, turns from their evil ways, I will change my mind of the evil that I had thought to do to them. ^18:9And at whatever instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it, ^18:10if it does evil in my sight, so that it does not obey my voice, then I will change my mind of the good, with which I said I would benefit them.’”

^18:13“Therefore thus says Jehovah: ‘Ask now among the heathen, who has heard such things; the virgin of Israel has done a very horrible thing.

^18:14“‘Does the snow of Mount Lebanon vanish from the rocks of the field? Will the cold flowing water that comes from foreign lands cease?’”

^18:15“‘Because my people has forgotten me, they have burned incense to vanity; and they have caused them to stumble in their ways from the ancient paths, to walk in paths, in a road not cleared of rocks: ^18:16to make their land desolate and a perpetual derision; every one that passes thereby shall be astonished, and shake his head.

^18:17“‘Therefore I will scatter them as with an east wind before the enemy; I will show them the back, and not the face, in the day of their calamity.’”

^18:18Then they said, “Come, and let us devise plots against Jeremiah: for the Law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet.

^18:19“Give heed to me, O Jehovah, and listen to the voice of them that contend with me. ^18:20Shall evil be repaid for good? For they have dug a pit for my soul. Remember that I stood before you to speak good for them, and to turn away your wrath from them.

^18:21“Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, and pour out their blood by the force of the sword; and let their wives be bereaved of their children, and be widows; and let their men be put to death; let their young men be slain by the sword in battle. ^18:22Let a cry be heard from their houses, when you shall bring a troop suddenly upon them: for they have dug a pit to take me, and hidden snares for my feet.

^18:23“Yet, Jehovah, you know all their counsel against me to slay me; therefore forgive not their iniquity; neither blot out their sin from your sight, but let them be overthrown before you; deal thus with them in the time of your anger.”

Thus says Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, the which whosoever hears, his ears shall tingle, ^19:4because they have forsaken me, and have alienated this place, and have burned incense in it to other gods, whom neither they nor their fathers have known, nor the kings of Judah; and they have filled this place with the blood of innocent children; ^19:5they have also built the high places of Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings to Baal, which I did not command, nor did I speak it; neither did it come into my mind.

^19:6“‘Therefore, behold, the days are coming,’ says Jehovah, ‘that this place shall no longer be called ‘Tophet,’ nor ‘The Valley of the Son of Hinnom,’ but ‘The Valley of Slaughter.’

^19:7“‘And I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place, and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hands of them that seek their lives; and their corpses will I give to be food for the birds of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth. ^19:8And I will make this city desolate, and a mockery; everyone that passes thereby shall be astonished and whistle because of all its plagues. ^19:9And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters; and they shall eat every one the flesh of his friend in the siege and straitness, by which their enemies, and they that seek their lives, shall straiten them.’”

^19:10“‘Then you shall smash the jar in the sight of the men that go with you, ^19:11and shall say to them, ‘Thus says Jehovah of hosts: ‘Even so will I smash this people and this city, as one smashes a potter's clay jar, that cannot be made whole again!! And they shall bury them in Tophet, until there is no place left to bury.

^19:12“‘Thus will I do to this place,’ says Jehovah, ‘and to its inhabitants, and even make this city as Tophet; ^19:13and the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of Judah, shall be defiled as the place of Tophet, because of all the houses upon whose roofs they have burned incense to all the constellations of the zodiac, and have poured out drink offerings to other gods.’”

^19:14Then Jeremiah came from Tophet, where Jehovah had sent him to prophesy; and he stood in the court of Jehovah's House; and said to all the people, ^19:15“Thus says Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: ‘Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all her towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it; because they have hardened their necks, that they might not hear my words.’”

^20:1Now Pashur the son of Immer the priest, who was also chief governor in the House of Jehovah, heard that Jeremiah had prophesied these things.

^20:2Then Pashur struck Jeremiah the Prophet, and put him in the pillory that was in the high gate of Benjamin, which was by the House of Jehovah.

^20:3And it came to pass on the next day, that Pashur brought forth Jeremiah out of the pillory. Then Jeremiah said to him, “Jehovah has not called your name ‘Pashur’, but ‘Fear on every side’: ^20:4for thus says Jehovah: ‘Behold, I will make you a terror to yourself, and to all your friends; and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and your eyes shall behold it. And I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive into Babylon, and shall slay them with the sword. ^20:5Moreover I will deliver all the strength of this city, and all its labors, and all its precious things; and all the treasures of the kings of Judah will I give into the hand of their enemies, who shall plunder them, and take them, and carry them to Babylon.

^20:6“‘And you, Pashur, and all that dwell in your house shall go into captivity; and you shall come to Babylon, and there you shall die, and shall be buried there: both you and all your friends, to whom you have prophesied lies.’”

¶Unique   Jeremiah briefly stumbled, but then prayed for judgment against his persecutors (20:7 - 18)

^20:7“O Jehovah, you have deceived me, and I was deceived; you are stronger than I, and have prevailed. I am in derision daily; everyone mocks me: ^20:8for since I spoke, I cried out; I cried violence and plunder, because the Word of Jehovah was made a reproach to me, and a derision, daily.

^20:9“Then I said, ‘I will not make mention of him, nor speak anymore in his Name.’ But his Word was in my heart like a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not endure it: ^20:10for I heard the mocking of many, ‘Fear on every side! Report, and we will report it!’ All my familiars watched for my stumbling, saying, ‘Perhaps he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.’”

^20:11“But Jehovah is with me as a mighty dreadful one; therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail. They shall be greatly ashamed, for they shall not prosper; their everlasting confusion shall never be forgotten.

^20:12“But, O Jehovah of hosts, that tests the righteous, and sees the reins and the heart, let me see your vengeance on them: for I have opened my cause to you. ^20:13Sing to Jehovah, praise Jehovah: for he has delivered the soul of the poor from the hand of evildoers.

^20:14“Cursed is the day in which I was born; let not the day in which my mother bore me be blessed. ^20:15Cursed is the man who brought news to my father, saying, ‘A man child was born to you’, making him very glad. ^20:16And let that man be as the cities of Sodom which Jehovah overthrew, and did not repent; and let him hear the cry in the morning, and the shouting at midday, ^20:17because he did not slay me from the womb; or that my mother might have been my grave, and her womb to be always great with me. ^20:18Why did I come forth out of the womb to see labor and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame?”

^21:3Then Jeremiah said to them, “Thus shall you say to Zedekiah: ^21:4‘Thus says Jehovah the God of Israel: ‘Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your hands, with which you fight against the king of Babylon and the Chaldeans, who besiege you outside the walls; and I will assemble them into the midst of this city. ^21:5And I myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger, in fury, and in great wrath. ^21:6And I will smite the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast; they shall die of a great plague. ^21:7And afterwards,’ says Jehovah, ‘I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah, and his servants, and the people, and such as are left in this city from disease, from the sword, and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those that seek their life. And he shall smite them with the edge of the sword; he shall not spare them; neither have pity, nor have mercy.’’”

“^21:8“And to this people you shall say, ‘Thus says Jehovah: ‘Behold, I set before you the way of life, and the way of death. ^21:9He that remains in this city shall die by the sword, by famine, and by disease. But he that goes out, and falls to the Chaldeans that besiege you, he shall live, and his life shall be to him for a prey. ^21:10For I have set my face against this city for evil, and not for good,’ says Jehovah. ‘It shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire.’’

^21:11“And touching the house of the king of Judah, say, ‘Hear the Word of Jehovah, ^21:12O house of David; thus says Jehovah: ‘Execute judgment in the morning, and deliver him that is plundered out of the hand of the oppressor, lest my fury goes out like fire, and burns that no one can quench it, because of the evil of your doings. ^21:13Behold, I am against you, O inhabitant of the valley, and rock of the plain,’ says Jehovah, ‘who says, ‘Who shall come down against us? Or who shall enter into our habitations?’ ^21:14But I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings,’ says Jehovah. ‘And I will kindle a fire in its forest, and it shall devour all things round about it.’’”

^22:1“Thus says Jehovah: Go down to the house of the king of Judah, and speak there this Word, ^22:2and say, ‘Hear the Word of Jehovah, O king of Judah, that sits upon the throne of David: you, your servants, and your people that enter in by these gates. ^22:3Thus says Jehovah: ‘Execute judgment and righteousness; and deliver the plundered out of the hand of the oppressor; and do no wrong; do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless, nor the widow; neither shed innocent blood in this place. ^22:4For if you do this thing indeed, then shall there enter in by the gates of this House kings sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses: he, his servants, and his people. ^22:5But if you will not hear these words, I swear by myself,’ says Jehovah, ‘that this House shall become a desolation.’ ^22:6For thus says Jehovah to the king's house of Judah: ‘You are like Gilead to me, and the head of Lebanon. Yet surely I will make you a wilderness, and cities which are not inhabited. ^22:7And I will prepare destroyers against you, every one with his weapons; and they shall cut down your choice cedars, and cast them into the fire. ^22:8And many nations shall pass by this city, and they shall say every man to his neighbor, ‘Why has Jehovah done this to this great city?’ ^22:9Then they shall answer, ‘Because they have forsaken the Covenant of Jehovah their God, and worshipped other gods, and served them.’’”

^22:13“‘Woe to him that builds his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong; that uses his neighbor's service without wages, and does not give him compensation for his work; ^22:14that says, ‘I will build me a wide house and large chambers’, and cuts himself out windows; and it is covered with cedar, and painted with vermilion. ^22:15Shall you reign, merely because you enclose yourself in cedar? Did not your father eat and drink, and do judgment and justice, and then it was well with him? ^22:16He judged the cause of the poor and needy, then it was well with him. Was not this to know me?’ says Jehovah. ^22:17‘But your eyes and your heart are not but for your covetousness, and for to shed innocent blood, and for oppression, and for violence, to do it.’ ^22:18Therefore thus says Jehovah concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah: ‘They shall not lament for him, saying, ‘Ah my brother!’ or, ‘Ah sister!’ They shall not lament for him, saying, ‘Ah lord!’ or, ‘Ah his glory!’ ^22:19He shall be buried with the burial of a donkey, dragged and cast forth beyond the gates of Jerusalem.’”

^22:20“‘Go up to Lebanon, and cry; and lift up your voice in Bashan, and cry from the passages: for all your lovers are destroyed. ^22:21I spoke to you in your prosperity; but you said, ‘I will not listen.’ This has been your manner from your youth, that you did not obey my voice. ^22:22The wind shall eat up all your pastors, and your lovers shall go into captivity; surely then you shall be ashamed and disgraced for all your wickedness. ^22:23O inhabitant of Lebanon, that makes your nest in the cedars, how gracious shall you be when pangs come upon you, the pain as of a woman in travail! ^22:24As I live,’ says Jehovah, ‘though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah were the signet upon my right hand, yet would I pluck you from there; ^22:25and I will give you into the hand of them that seek your life, and into the hand of them whose face you fear, even into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of the Chaldeans. ^22:26And I will cast you out, and your mother that bore you, into another country, where you were not born; and there you shall die. ^22:27But to the land that they desire to return to, there shall they not return.

^22:28“‘Is this man Coniah a despised broken idol? Is he a vessel in which is no pleasure? Why are they cast out, he and his seed, and are cast into a land which they do not know?

^22:29“‘O earth, earth, earth, hear the Word of Jehovah.’ ^22:30Thus says Jehovah: ‘Write this man childless, a man that shall not prosper in his days: for no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting on the throne of David, and ruling anymore in Judah.’”

^18:7“‘En cualquier instante que yo hablaré acerca de una nación, o acerca de un reino, (arrancarlo, derribarlo y destruirlo), ^18:8si esta nación, contra quien he pronunciado juicio, se vuelve de sus malos caminos, yo cambiaré de parecer del mal que había pensado hacerles. ^18:9Y en cualquier instante yo hablaré acerca de una nación y acerca de un reino, para edificar y para plantar, ^18:10si hiciere lo malo delante de mis ojos, para que ello no obedezca mi voz, entonces voy a cambiar mi mente de lo bueno con lo que dije que los beneficiaria’”.

§El complemento   Cuerpo: Jehová envió a Jeremías a profetizar contra el pueblo y la ciudad de Jerusalén, lo que resultó en severa persecución (18:11 - 20:18)

¶Lo opuesto   Israel ha rechazado el pacto de Jehová (18:11 - 17)

^18:11“Ahora, por lo tanto, ven, habla a hombre de Judá, y a los moradores de Jerusalén, diciendo, ‘Así dice Jehová: He aquí, Estoy creando el mal contra ti, y tramando un plan contra ti. Vuélvete ahora cada uno de su mal camino, y haced buenos vuestros caminos y vuestras obras’. ^18:12Y dijeron, ‘No hay esperanza, pero caminaremos tras nuestras propias ideas, y haremos cada uno la dureza de su mal corazón’.

^18:13“Por tanto, así dice Jehová, ‘Preguntad ahora a las gentes, quién ha oído cosa semejante. Una cosa muy horrible ha hecho la virgen de Israel.

^18:14“‘¿Será la nieve del Monte Líbano desaparecer desde sus rocas? ¿Cesará el agua fría que fluye de tierras extranjeras?’”.

^18:15Porque mi gente me ha olvidado, quemando incienso a las vanidades, y éstas les han hecho tropezar en sus caminos, desviándole de las sendas antiguas, para que camine por sendas, por camino no preparado; ^18:16para poner su tierra en desolación y en burla perpetua; todo el que pase por ella se asombrará, y meneará su cabeza.

^18:17“‘Por eso los dispersaré como con viento del este delante del enemigo; les mostraré la espalda, y no el rostro, en el día de su calamidad’”.

¶Lo opuesto   Jeremías oró para que Jehová juzgara a los que le persiguen (18:18 - 23)

^18:18Entonces dijeron, “Venid, y tramemos maquinaciones contra Jeremías: porque la Ley no faltará del sacerdote, ni consejo del sabio, ni palabra del profeta.

“Venid e dejarnos golpearle con la lengua, y no escuchemos a ninguna de sus palabras”.

^18:19“Oh Jehová, mira por mí, y oye la voz de los que contienden conmigo. ^18:20¿Se da mal por bien para que hayan cavado hoyo para mi alma? Acuérdate que me puse delante de ti para hablar bien por ellos, para apartar de ellos tu ira.

^18:21“Por tanto, entrega sus hijos a hambre, y haz derramar su sangre por medio de la espada; y queden sus esposas sin hijos, y viudas; y sus maridos sean puestos a muerte, y sus jóvenes heridos a espada en la guerra. ^18:22Óigase clamor de sus casas, cuando traigas sobre ellos ejército de repente: porque cavaron hoyo para prenderme, y a mis pies han escondido lazos.

^18:23“Pero tú, oh Jehová, conoces todo su consejo contra mí para muerte; no perdones su maldad, ni borres su pecado de delante de tu rostro, y tropiecen delante de ti; haz así con ellos en el tiempo de tu furor”.

¶El complemento   Jeremías rompió una vasija de barro (que simboliza la casa de Israel) con una profecía de juicio contra Judá y Jerusalén (19:1 - 13)

^19:1“Así dice Jehová, ‘Ve, y compra una vasija de barro de alfarero, y lleva contigo de los ancianos del pueblo, y de los ancianos de los sacerdotes; ^19:2y sal al valle del hijo de Hinom, que está a la entrada de la puerta oriental, y proclama allí las palabras que yo te hablaré; ^19:3y di, ‘Oíd Palabra de Jehová, oh reyes de Judá, y moradores de Jerusalén. Así dice Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: He aquí que yo traigo mal sobre este lugar, tal que quien lo oyere, le retiñirán los oídos: ^19:4porque me dejaron, y enajenaron este lugar, y ofrecieron en él perfumes a dioses ajenos, los cuales no habían ellos conocido, ni sus padres, ni los reyes de Judá; y llenaron este lugar de sangre de inocentes. ^19:5Y edificaron lugares altos a Baal, para quemar con fuego a sus hijos en holocaustos al mismo Baal; cosa que no les mandé, ni hablé, ni me vino al pensamiento.

^19:6“‘Por tanto, he aquí vienen días,’ dice Jehová, ‘que este lugar no se llamará más ‘Tofet’, ni ‘valle del hijo de Hinom’, sino ‘valle de la Matanza’.

^19:7“‘Y desvaneceré el consejo de Judá y de Jerusalén en este lugar; y les haré caer a espada delante de sus enemigos, y en las manos de los que buscan sus vidas; y daré sus cuerpos para comida de las aves del cielo y de las bestias de la tierra. ^19:8Y pondré a esta ciudad en desolación y burla; todo aquel que pasare por ella se asombrará, y silbará sobre todas sus plagas. ^19:9Y les haré comer la carne de sus hijos y la carne de sus hijas; y cada uno comerá la carne de su amigo, en el cerco y en el apuro con que los estrecharán sus enemigos y los que buscan sus almas’”.

^19:10“‘Entonces quebrarás la vasija ante los ojos de los varones que van contigo, ^19:11y les dirás, ‘Así dice Jehová de los ejércitos, ‘¡¡Así quebrantaré a este pueblo y a esta ciudad, como quien quiebra un vaso de barro, que no puede más restaurarse!! Y los enterrarán en Tofet, hasta que no quede lugar donde sepultar.

^19:12“‘Así haré a este lugar,’ dice Jehová, ‘y a sus habitantes, y hasta haré esta ciudad como Tofet. ^19:13Y las casas de Jerusalén y las casas de los reyes de Judá serán contaminadas como el lugar de Tofet, debido a todas las casas sobre cuyos tejados han quemado incienso a todas las constelaciones del zodíaco, y han derramado ofrendas de bebida a otros dioses’”.

¶El complemento   El sacerdote Pashur puso a Jeremías en la picota para castigarlo por sus profecías (19:14 - 20:6)

^19:14Y volvió Jeremías de Tofet, a donde le envió Jehová a profetizar, y se paró en el atrio de la Casa de Jehová, y dijo a todo el pueblo, ^19:15“Así dice Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel, ‘He aquí yo traigo sobre esta ciudad y sobre todas sus villas todo el mal que hablé contra ella: porque han endurecido su cerviz, para no oír mis Palabras’”.

^20:1Y Pasur sacerdote, hijo de Imer, que presidía por príncipe en la Casa de Jehová, oyó a Jeremías que profetizaba estas palabras.

^20:2Y Pasur azotó al Profeta Jeremías, y le puso en la picota que estaba a la puerta superior de Benjamín, la cual conducía a la Casa de Jehová.

^20:3Y aconteció que el día siguiente Pasur sacó a Jeremías de la picota. Le dijo entonces Jeremías, “Jehová no ha llamado tu nombre ‘Pasur’, sino ‘Miedo en cada lado’: ^20:4porque así dice Jehová, ‘He aquí yo te pondré en espanto, a ti y a todos tus amigos, y caerán por la espada de sus enemigos, y tus ojos lo verán; y a todo Judá entregaré en mano del rey de Babilonia, y los trasportará a Babilonia, y los matará a espada. ^20:5Entregaré también toda la riqueza de esta ciudad, y todo su trabajo, y todas sus cosas preciosas; y daré todos los tesoros de los reyes de Judá en manos de sus enemigos, y los saquearán, y los tomarán, y los llevarán a Babilonia.

^20:6“‘Y tú, Pasur, y todos los moradores de tu casa iréis cautivos, y entrarás en Babilonia, y allí morirás, y allí serás enterrado tú, y todos tus amigos, a los cuales has profetizado con mentira’”.

¶Único   Jeremías tropezó brevemente, pero luego oró por el juicio contra sus perseguidores (20:7 - 18)

^20:7“Oh Jehová, me has engañado, y fui engañado; más fuerte fuiste que yo, y me venciste; cada día he sido escarnecido; todos se burlan de mí: ^20:8porque desde que hablo, doy voces, grito: Violencia y destrucción: porque la Palabra de Jehová me ha sido para afrenta y escarnio cada día.

^20:9“Entonces dije, ‘No me acordaré más de él, ni hablaré más en su Nombre’. Pero su Palabra fue en mi corazón como un fuego ardiente metido en mis huesos, traté de sufrirlo, y no pude: ^20:10porque oí la murmuración de muchos, ‘¡Temor de todas partes! ¡Denunciad, y denunciaremos!’. Todos mis familiares miraban para mi tropiezo, diciendo, ‘Acaso él se deje seducir, y prevaleceremos contra él, y tomaremos de él nuestra venganza’”.

^20:11“Pero Jehová está conmigo como poderoso gigante; por tanto los que me persiguen tropezarán, y no prevalecerán; serán avergonzados en gran manera: porque no prosperarán; tendrán perpetua confusión que jamás será olvidada.

^20:12“Oh Jehová de los ejércitos, que pruebas a los justos, que ves los pensamientos y el corazón, vea yo tu venganza de ellos: porque a ti he expuesto mi causa. ^20:13Cantad a Jehová, load a Jehová: porque ha librado el alma del pobre de mano de los malignos.

^20:14“Maldito el día en que nací; el día en que mi madre me dio a luz no sea bendito. ^20:15Maldito el hombre que dio nuevas a mi padre, diciendo, ‘Hijo varón te ha nacido’, haciéndole alegrarse así mucho. ^20:16Y sea el tal hombre como las ciudades que asoló Jehová, y no se arrepintió; y oiga gritos de mañana, y voces al mediodía: ^20:17porque no me mató en el vientre, y mi madre me hubiera sido mi sepulcro, y su vientre un embarazo perpetuo. ^20:18¿Para qué salí del vientre para ver trabajo y dolor, y que mis días se gastasen en afrenta?”.

^21:1La Palabra que llegó a Jeremías de parte de Jehová, cuando el rey Sedequías envió a él a Pasur hijo de Malquías, y a Sofonías sacerdote, hijo de Maasías, que le dijesen, ^21:2“Pregunta ahora por nosotros a Jehová: porque Nabucodonosor rey de Babilonia hace guerra contra nosotros: quizá Jehová hará con nosotros según todas sus maravillas, y aquél se irá de sobre nosotros”.

^21:3Y Jeremías les dijo, “Diréis así a Sedequías: ^21:4‘Así dice Jehová Dios de Israel: ‘He aquí yo vuelvo atrás las armas de guerra que están en vuestras manos, con las cuales ustedes peleáis contra el rey de Babilonia y contra los caldeos, que os tienen sitiados fuera de la muralla, y yo los reuniré en medio de esta ciudad. ^21:5Y pelearé contra ustedes con mano levantada y con brazo fuerte, y con furor, y enojo, e ira grande. ^21:6Y heriré los moradores de esta ciudad; y los hombres y las bestias morirán de pestilencia grande. ^21:7Y después,’ dice Jehová, ‘entregaré a Sedequías rey de Judá, y a sus siervos, y al pueblo, y a los que quedaren en la ciudad de la pestilencia, y de la espada, y del hambre, en mano de Nabucodonosor rey de Babilonia, y en mano de sus enemigos, y en mano de los que buscan sus vidas; y él los herirá a filo de espada; no los perdonará ni se compadecerá de ellos, ni les tendrá misericordia’’”.

^21:8“Y a este pueblo dirás, ‘Así dice Jehová, ‘He aquí pongo delante de ustedes camino de vida y camino de muerte. ^21:9El que se quedare en esta ciudad, morirá a espada, o de hambre, o pestilencia; pero el que saliere y se pasare a los caldeos que os tienen cercados, vivirá, y su vida le será por despojo: ^21:10porque mi rostro he puesto contra esta ciudad para mal, y no para bien,’ dice Jehová; ‘en mano del rey de Babilonia será entregada, y la quemará a fuego’’.

^21:11“Y a la casa del rey de Judá dirás, ‘Oíd Palabra de Jehová, ^21:12casa de David; así dice Jehová, ‘Haced de mañana juicio, y librad al oprimido de mano del opresor; para que mi ira no salga como fuego, y se encienda, y no haya quien apague, por la maldad de vuestras obras. ^21:13He aquí yo contra ti, moradora del valle de la piedra de la llanura,’ dice Jehová; ‘los que decís: ‘¿Quién subirá contra nosotros? ¿Y quién entrará en nuestras moradas?’. ^21:14Yo os castigaré conforme al fruto de vuestras obras,’ dice Jehová, ‘y haré encender fuego en su bosque, y consumirá todo lo que está alrededor de ella’’”.

^22:1“Así dice Jehová: Desciende a la casa del rey de Judá, y habla allí esta Palabra, ^22:2y di, ‘Oye Palabra de Jehová, oh rey de Judá que estás sentado sobre el trono de David, tú, y tus criados, y tu pueblo que entran por estas puertas. ^22:3Así dice Jehová: ‘Haced juicio y justicia, y librad al oprimido de mano del opresor, y no engañéis, ni robéis al extranjero, ni al huérfano, ni a la viuda, ni derraméis sangre inocente en este lugar: ^22:4porque si en verdad observareis esta palabra, los reyes que en lugar de David se sientan sobre su trono, entrarán montados en carros y en caballos por las puertas de esta Casa, ellos, y sus siervos, y su pueblo. ^22:5Pero si no observareis estas palabras, por mí he jurado,’ dice Jehová, ‘que esta Casa será desierta’. ^22:6Porque así dice Jehová sobre la casa del rey de Judá, ‘Como Galaad eres tú para mí, y como cabeza del Líbano; sin embargo te convertiré en un desierto, como ciudades deshabitadas. ^22:7Y designaré contra ti destructores, cada uno con sus armas; y cortarán tus cedros escogidos, y los echarán en el fuego. ^22:8Y muchas gentes pasarán junto a esta ciudad, y dirán cada uno a su compañero, ‘¿Por qué ha hecho así Jehová a esta gran ciudad?’ ^22:9Y dirán, ‘Porque dejaron el Pacto de Jehová su Dios, y adoraron dioses ajenos, y les sirvieron’’”.

^22:10“No lloréis por el muerto, ni hagáis duelo por él; llorad amargamente por el que se va: porque no volverá jamás, ni verá la tierra donde nació: ^22:11porque así dice Jehová, de Salum hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, que reina por Josías su padre, que salió de este lugar, ‘No volverá acá más; ^22:12antes morirá en el lugar adonde lo llevaron cautivo, y no verá más esta tierra’.

^22:13¡Ay del que edifica su casa y no en justicia, y sus salas y no en juicio, sirviéndose de su prójimo de balde, y no dándole el salario de su trabajo! ^22:14Que dice, ‘Edificaré para mí casa espaciosa, y airosas salas’; y le abre ventanas, y la cubre de cedro, y la pinta de bermellón. ^22:15¿Reinarás porque te rodeas de cedro? ¿No comió y bebió tu padre, e hizo juicio y justicia, y entonces le fue bien? ^22:16Él juzgó la causa del afligido y del menesteroso, y entonces estuvo bien. ¿No es esto conocerme a mí?’ dice Jehová. ^22:17‘Pero tus ojos y tu corazón no son sino para tu avaricia, y para derramar la sangre inocente, y para opresión, y para hacer agravio’. ^22:18Por tanto así dice Jehová, de Joacim hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, ‘No lo llorarán, diciendo, ‘¡Ay hermano mío!’ o ‘¡Ay hermana!’ Ni lo lamentarán, diciendo, ‘¡Ay señor!’ O ‘¡Ay su grandeza!’ ^22:19En sepultura de asno será enterrado, arrastrándole y echándole fuera de las puertas de Jerusalén’”.

^22:20“‘Sube al Líbano, y clama, y en Basán da tu voz, y grita hacia todas partes: porque todos tus amantes son destruidos. ^22:21Te hablé en tu prosperidad; pero dijiste, ‘No oiré’. Éste ha sido tu proceder desde tu juventud, que nunca oíste mi voz. ^22:22A todos tus pastores arrasará el viento, y tus amantes irán en cautiverio; entonces te avergonzarás y te confundirás a causa de toda tu maldad. ^22:23Habitaste en el Líbano, hiciste tu nido en los cedros: ¡Cómo gemirás cuando te vinieren dolores, dolores como de mujer que está de parto! ^22:24Vivo yo,’ dice Jehová, ‘que si Conías hijo de Joacim rey de Judá fuese anillo en mi mano derecha, aun de allí te arrancaría. ^22:25Y te entregaré en mano de los que buscan tu vida, y en mano de aquellos cuya vista temes; sí, en mano de Nabucodonosor rey de Babilonia, y en mano de los caldeos. ^22:26Y te arrojaré a ti, y a tu madre que te dio a luz, a tierra extraña en donde no nacisteis; y allá moriréis. ^22:27Y a la tierra a la cual con el alma anhelan volver, a ella no volverán.

^22:28“‘¿Es este hombre Conías un ídolo vil quebrado? ¿Es vaso con quien nadie se deleita? ¿Por qué fueron arrojados, él y su generación, y echados a tierra que no habían conocido?

^22:29“‘¡O, Tierra, tierra, tierra! Oye Palabra de Jehová. ^22:30Así dice Jehová: ‘Escribid que este hombre será privado de descendencia, hombre que no prosperará en todos los días de su vida: porque ninguno de su simiente prosperará para sentarse sobre el trono de David, y gobernar sobre Judá’”.
