“‘What is the transgression of Jacob? Is it not Samaria? And what are the high places of Judah? Are they not Jerusalem?

^1:6“‘Therefore will I make Samaria as a heap of the field, and as plantings of a vineyard; and I will pour down its stones into the valley, and I will uncover its foundations. ^1:7And all its carved images shall be beaten to pieces; and all its hires shall be burned with fire; and all its idols will I lay desolate: for she gathered it of the hire of a whore, and they shall return to the hire of a whore.’”

^2:6“‘‘Do not prophesy,’ say they to them that prophesy. They shall not prophesy to them, that they receive not shame.

^2:7“‘O you that are named the house of Jacob, is the Spirit of Jehovah constrained? Are these his doings? Do not my words do good to him that walks uprightly?

^2:8“‘Even of late my people have risen up as an enemy. You pull off the robe with the garment from them that pass by securely as men averse from war. ^2:9You have cast out the women of my people from their pleasant houses; you have taken away my glory forever from their children. ^2:10Arise and depart: for this is not your rest. Because it is polluted, it shall destroy you, even with utter destruction.’”

^3:1“‘And I said, ‘Please hear, O heads of Jacob, and you princes of the house of Israel: is it not for you to know judgment?’ ^3:2Who hate the good, and love the evil; who pluck their skin from off them, and their flesh from off their bones; ^3:3who also eat the flesh of my people, and flay their skin from off them; and they break their bones, and chop them in pieces, as for the pot, and as flesh within the caldron.

^3:4“‘Then shall they cry to Jehovah, but he will not hear them. He will even hide his face from them at that time, as they have behaved themselves ill in their doings.’”

^3:8“But truly I am full of power by the Spirit of Jehovah, and of judgment and might, to declare to Jacob his transgression, and to Israel his sin.”

^3:9“‘Please hear this, you heads of the house of Jacob, and princes of the house of Israel, that abhor judgment, and pervert all equity. ^3:10They build up Zion with blood, and Jerusalem with iniquity. ^3:11The heads of it judge for a bribe, and its priests teach for hire, and its prophets divine for money. Yet they will rely upon Jehovah, and say, ‘Is not Jehovah among us? No evil can come upon us.’

^3:12“‘Therefore for your sake shall Zion be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the House as the high places of the forest.’”

^4:1“‘But in the Last Days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the House of Jehovah shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it. ^4:2And many nations shall come and say, ‘Come, and let us go up to the mountain of Jehovah, and to the House of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths’: for the Law shall go forth out of Zion, and the Word of Jehovah from Jerusalem.

^4:3“‘And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plow shares, and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation shall not lift up a sword against nation; neither shall they learn war anymore.

^4:4“‘But every man shall sit under his vine and under his fig tree; and no one shall make them afraid: for the mouth of Jehovah of hosts, has spoken it: ^4:5for all people will walk every one in the Name of his God, and we will walk in the Name of Jehovah our God forever and ever.’”

^4:6“‘In that day,’ says Jehovah, ‘will I assemble her that limps, and I will gather her that was driven out, and her that I have afflicted; ^4:7and I will make her that limped a remnant, and her that was cast far off a strong nation. And Jehovah shall reign over them in mount Zion from henceforth, even forever.

^4:8“‘And you, O tower of the flock, the stronghold of the daughter of Zion, to you shall it come, even the first dominion; the Kingdom shall come to the daughter of Jerusalem.’”

^4:11“‘Now also many nations are gathered against you, that say, ‘Let her be defiled, and let our eye look upon Zion.’ ^4:12But they know not the thoughts of Jehovah; neither do they understand his counsel: for he shall gather them as the sheaves into the floor. ^4:13Arise and thresh, O daughter of Zion: for I will make your horn iron, and I will make your hoofs brass. And you shall beat in pieces many people; and I will consecrate their gain to Jehovah, and their substance to the Lord of the whole earth.’”

^5:1“‘Now gather yourself in troops, O daughter of troops. He has laid siege against us; they shall smite the Judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek. ^5:2But you, Bethlehem Ephratah, though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall he come forth to me to be Ruler in Israel, whose goings forth have been from of old, from Eternity Past. ^5:3Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she which travails has brought forth. Then the remnant of his brethren shall return to the children of Israel. ^5:4And he shall stand and feed in the strength of Jehovah, in the majesty of the Name of Jehovah his God; and they shall stay: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.

^5:5“‘And this man shall be the peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land; and when he shall tread in our palaces, then we shall raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men. ^5:6And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in its entrances; thus shall he deliver us from the Assyrian, when he comes into our land, and when he treads within our borders. ^5:7And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many people as a dew from Jehovah, as the showers upon the grass, that delays not for man, nor waits for the sons of men. ^5:8And the remnant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles in the midst of many people as a lion among the beasts of the forest; as a young lion among the flocks of sheep, who, if he goes through, both treads down, and tears in pieces; and none can deliver. ^5:9Your hand shall be lifted up upon your adversaries, and all your enemies shall be cut off.

^5:10“‘And it shall come to pass in that day,’ says Jehovah, ‘that I will cut off your horses out of your midst, and I will destroy your chariots. ^5:11And I will cut off the cities of your land, and throw down all your strongholds. ^5:12And I will cut off witchcrafts out of your hand; and you shall have no more soothsayers. ^5:13Your carved images also will I cut off, and your standing images out of your midst; and you shall not worship the work of your hands any longer. ^5:14And I will pluck up your images of Asherah out of your midst; so will I destroy your cities. ^5:15And I will execute vengeance in anger and fury upon the heathen, such as they have not heard.’”

And what does Jehovah require of you, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?”

^6:9“‘Jehovah's voice cries to the city, and the man of wisdom shall see your Name: “Hear the rod, and who has appointed it. ^6:10Are there yet the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure that is abominable? ^6:11Shall I count them pure with the wicked balances, and with the bag of deceitful weights? ^6:12For its rich men are full of violence, and its inhabitants have spoken lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.

^6:13“‘Therefore also will I make you sick in smiting you, in making you desolate because of your sins. ^6:14You shall eat, but not be satisfied; and your casting down shall be in your midst; and you shall take hold, but shall not deliver; and that which you deliver will I give up to the sword. ^6:15You shall sow, but you shall not reap; you shall tread the olives, but you shall not anoint yourself with oil; and sweet wine, but shall not drink wine. ^6:16For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of Ahab; and you walk in their counsels, that I should make you a desolation, and it inhabitants a whistling; therefore shall you bear the reproach of my people.”

^7:1“‘Woe is me! For I am as when they have gathered the summer fruits, as the grape gleanings of the vintage; there is no cluster to eat. My soul desired the first ripe fruit. ^7:2The good man has perished out of the earth; and there is no one upright among men. They all lie in wait for blood; they hunt every man his brother with a net. ^7:3That they may do evil with both hands earnestly, the prince asks for bribes, and the judge asks for a bribe. And the powerful man, he utters his mischievous desire, so they scheme together. ^7:4The best of them is like a brier; the most upright is sharper than a hedge thorn. The day of your watchmen and your visitation is coming. Now shall be their perplexity. ^7:5Trust not in a friend; put no confidence in a guide; guard the doors of your mouth from her that lies in your bosom: ^7:6for the son dishonors the father, the daughter rises up against her mother, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; a man's enemies are the men of his own household.’”

“He retains not his anger forever, because he delights in mercy. ^7:19He will turn again; he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities. And you will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.

^3:1“‘Y dije, ‘Oíd ahora, príncipes de Jacob, y cabezas de la casa de Israel: ¿No pertenece a ustedes saber el derecho? ^3:2A ustedes que aborrecéis lo bueno y amáis lo malo, que les arrancáis su piel y su carne de sobre sus huesos; ^3:3que coméis asimismo la carne de mi pueblo, y les desolláis su piel de sobre ellos y les quebráis sus huesos, y los hacéis pedazos como para la olla, y como carne en caldero.

^3:4“‘Entonces clamarán a Jehová y no les responderá; antes esconderá de ellos su rostro en aquel tiempo, por cuanto hicieron malvadas obras’”.

^3:5“‘Así dice Jehová acerca de los profetas que hacen errar a mi pueblo, que muerden con sus dientes, y claman, ‘Paz’; y contra el que no les da de comer, declaran guerra: ^3:6‘Por tanto, noche será para ustedes, no tendréis visión; os será oscuridad de manera que no adivinéis; y sobre los profetas se pondrá el sol, y el día se oscurecerá sobre ellos.

^3:7“‘Y serán avergonzados los profetas, y se confundirán los adivinos; y ellos todos cubrirán su labio: porque no hay respuesta de Dios’”.

^3:8“Pero yo estoy lleno de poder del Espíritu de Jehová, y de juicio, y de fortaleza, para denunciar a Jacob su rebelión, y a Israel su pecado”.

^3:9“‘Oíd ahora esto, cabezas de la casa de Jacob, y capitanes de la casa de Israel, que abomináis el juicio, y pervertís todo el derecho. ^3:10Que edificáis a Sión con sangre, y a Jerusalén con injusticia. ^3:11Sus cabezas juzgan por cohecho, y sus sacerdotes enseñan por precio, y sus profetas adivinan por dinero; y se apoyan en Jehová diciendo, ‘¿No está Jehová entre nosotros? No vendrá mal sobre nosotros’.

^3:12“‘Por tanto, a causa de ustedes Sión será arada como un campo, y Jerusalén vendrá a ser un montón de ruinas, y el monte de la casa como las cumbres del bosque’”.

¶Lo opuesto   En los últimos días, las naciones de la Tierra buscarán a Jehová y su Palabra y ya no harán la guerra (4:1 - 8)

^4:1“‘Pero acontecerá en los postreros días que el monte de la Casa de Jehová será establecido por cabecera de montes, será exaltado más que los collados, y los pueblos correrán a él. ^4:2Y vendrán muchas naciones, y dirán, ‘Venid, y subamos al monte de Jehová, y a la casa del Dios de Jacob; y él nos enseñará en sus caminos, y andaremos por sus sendas’: porque de Sión saldrá la Ley, y de Jerusalén la Palabra de Jehová.

^4:3“‘Y juzgará entre muchos pueblos, y corregirá a naciones poderosas hasta muy lejos; y martillarán sus espadas para azadones, y sus lanzas para hoces; no alzará espada nación contra nación, ni se adiestrarán más para la guerra.

^4:4“‘Y cada uno se sentará debajo de su vid y debajo de su higuera, y no habrá quien amedrente: porque la boca de Jehová de los ejércitos lo ha hablado. ^4:5Bien que todos los pueblos anduvieren cada uno en el Nombre de sus Dios, nosotros con todo andaremos en el Nombre de Jehová nuestro Dios eternamente y para siempre’”.

^4:6“‘En aquel día,’ dice Jehová, ‘juntaré a la que cojea, y recogeré a la descarriada, y a la que afligí; ^4:7y haré un remanente de la que cojea, y de la descarriada una nación poderosa; y Jehová reinará sobre ellos en el monte de Sión desde ahora y para siempre.

^4:8“‘Y tú, oh torre del rebaño, la fortaleza de la hija de Sión vendrá hasta ti; y el señorío primero, el reino vendrá a la hija de Jerusalén’”.

¶Lo opuesto   El Mesías liberará a Israel de sus enemigos y eliminará a los ídolos de la tierra (4:9 - 5:15)

^4:9“‘Ahora ¿por qué gritas tanto? ¿No hay rey en ti? ¿Pereció tu consejero, que te ha tomado dolor como de mujer de parto? ^4:10Duélete y gime, hija de Sión como mujer de parto: porque ahora saldrás de la ciudad, y morarás en el campo, y llegarás hasta Babilonia; allí serás librada, allí te redimirá Jehová de la mano de tus enemigos.

^4:11“‘Ahora también muchas naciones se han juntado contra ti, y dicen, ‘Sea profanada, y vean nuestros ojos su deseo sobre Sión’. ^4:12Pero ellos no conocieron los pensamientos de Jehová, ni entendieron su consejo; por lo cual los juntó como gavillas en la era. ^4:13Levántate y trilla, hija de Sión: porque tu cuerno tornaré de hierro, y tus uñas de bronce, y desmenuzarás muchos pueblos; y consagrarás a Jehová su despojo, y sus riquezas al Señor de toda la tierra’”.

^5:1“‘Reúnete ahora en tropas, oh hija de guerreros; nos han sitiado; con vara herirán en la mejilla al Juez de Israel. ^5:2Pero tú, Belén Efrata, aunque eres pequeña entre los millares de Judá, fuera de ti él vendrá a mí ser gobernante en Israel; y sus salidas han sido desde el principio, desde la eternidad. ^5:3Pero los dejará hasta el tiempo que dé a luz la que ha de dar a luz; entonces el resto de sus hermanos volverán a los hijos de Israel. ^5:4Y él estará, y apacentará con el poder de Jehová, con la majestad del Nombre de Jehová su Dios; y permanecerán: porque ahora él será engrandecido hasta los fines de la tierra.

^5:5“‘Y éste será nuestra paz. Cuando el asirio venga a nuestra tierra, y cuando pise nuestros palacios, entonces levantaremos contra él siete pastores, y ocho hombres principales; ^5:6y destruirán la tierra de Asiria a espada, y la tierra de Nimrod con sus espadas; y él nos librará del asirio, cuando viniere contra nuestra tierra y hollare nuestros términos. ^5:7Y el remanente de Jacob será en medio de muchos pueblos, como el rocío de Jehová, como las lluvias sobre la hierba, las cuales no esperan a hombre, ni aguardan a los hijos de los hombres. ^5:8Y el remanente de Jacob será entre los gentiles, en medio de muchos pueblos, como el león entre las bestias de la selva, como el cachorro del león entre los rebaños de ovejas, el cual si pasa, pisotea y arrebata, y no hay quien pueda librar. ^5:9Tu mano se alzará sobre tus adversarios, y todos tus enemigos serán talados.

^5:10“‘Y acontecerá en aquel día,’ dice Jehová, ‘que exterminaré tus caballos de en medio de ti, y destruiré tus carros. ^5:11Y destruiré las ciudades de tu tierra, y derribaré todas tus fortalezas. ^5:12Asimismo destruiré de tu mano las hechicerías, y no se hallarán en ti agoreros. ^5:13Y destruiré tus esculturas y tus imágenes de en medio de ti, y nunca más adorarás la obra de tus manos. ^5:14Y arrancaré tus imágenes de Asera de en medio de ti, y destruiré tus ciudades. ^5:15Y con ira y con furor haré venganza en las gentes que no escucharon’”.

§Único   Conclusión: Los poderosos en Israel eran totalmente corruptos y malvados; pero aún había esperanza en Jehová su Dios (6:1 - 7:20)

^6:1“‘Oíd ahora lo que dice Jehová: “Levántate, pleitea con los montes, y oigan los collados tu voz. ^6:2Oíd, montes, y fuertes fundamentos de la tierra, el pleito de Jehová: porque Jehová tiene controversia con su pueblo, y altercará con Israel. ^6:3Pueblo mío, ¿qué te he hecho, o en qué te he molestado? Responde contra mí: ^6:4porque yo te hice subir de la tierra de Egipto, y de la casa de siervos te redimí; y envié delante de ti a Moisés, y a Aarón, y a Miriam. ^6:5Pueblo mío, acuérdate ahora qué aconsejó Balac rey de Moab, y qué le respondió Balaam, hijo de Beor, desde Sitim hasta Gilgal, para que conozcas las justicias de Jehová’”.

^6:6“¿Con qué me presentaré delante de Jehová, y adoraré al Dios Altísimo? ¿Vendré ante él con holocaustos, con becerros de un año? ^6:7¿Se agradará Jehová de millares de carneros, o de diez mil arroyos de aceite? ¿Daré mi primogénito por mi rebelión, el fruto de mis entrañas por el pecado de mi alma? ^6:8Oh hombre, él te ha declarado lo que es bueno, y ¿qué pide Jehová de ti? Solamente hacer justicia, y amar misericordia, y caminar humildemente con tu Dios”.

^6:9La voz de Jehová clama a la ciudad, y el sabio mirará a tu Nombre: “Oíd la vara, y a quien lo ha establecido. ^6:10¿Hay aún tesoros de impiedad en casa del impío, y medida escasa que es detestable? ^6:11¿Tendré por inocente al que tiene balanza falsa, y bolsa de pesas engañosas? ^6:12Con lo cual sus ricos se llenaron de rapiña, y sus moradores hablaron mentira, y su lengua es engañosa en su boca.

^6:13“‘Por eso yo también te haré enfermar, hiriéndote, asolándote por tus pecados. ^6:14Tú comerás, y no te saciarás; y tu abatimiento estará en medio de ti; recogerás, pero no conservarás; y lo que conservares, yo lo entregaré a la espada. ^6:15Tú sembrarás, pero no segarás; pisarás aceitunas, pero no te ungirás con el aceite; y mosto, pero no beberás el vino: ^6:16porque los mandamientos de Omri se han guardado, y toda obra de la casa de Acab; y en los consejos de ellos anduvisteis, para que yo te pusiese en asolamiento, y a tus moradores para escarnio. Llevaréis, por tanto, el oprobio de mi pueblo.

^7:1“‘¡Ay de mí! Porque he venido a ser como cuando han recogido los frutos del verano, como cuando han rebuscado después de la vendimia, que no queda racimo para comer; mi alma desea los primeros frutos. ^7:2Faltó el misericordioso de la tierra, y ninguno hay recto entre los hombres. Todos acechan por sangre; cada cual arma red a su hermano. ^7:3Para completar la maldad con ambas manos, el príncipe demanda, y el juez juzga por recompensa; el grande habla el antojo de su alma, y lo confirman. ^7:4El mejor de ellos es como el abrojo, y el más recto, como el zarzal; el día de tus atalayas, tu visitación, viene; ahora será su confusión. ^7:5No creáis en amigo, ni confiéis en príncipe; de la que duerme a tu lado, guarda, no abras tu boca: ^7:6porque el hijo deshonra al padre, la hija se levanta contra la madre, la nuera contra su suegra; y los enemigos del hombre son los de su propia casa’”.

¶El complemento   La única esperanza para Israel está en Jehová su Dios (7:7 - 20)

^7:7“Pero yo miraré a Jehová, esperaré en el Dios de mi salvación; el Dios mío me oirá. ^7:8No te alegres de mí, oh enemiga mía: porque aunque caiga, me volveré a levantar; aunque more en tinieblas, Jehová será mi luz. ^7:9La ira de Jehová soportaré: porque pequé contra él, hasta que juzgue mi causa y haga mi juicio; él me sacará a luz; veré su justicia. ^7:10Entonces mi enemiga lo verá, y la cubrirá vergüenza; la que me decía, ‘¿Dónde está Jehová tu Dios?’ Mis ojos la verán; ahora será hollada como el lodo de las calles. ^7:11El día en que se edificarán tus muros, aquel día será alejado el mandato. ^7:12En ese día vendrán hasta ti desde Asiria y las ciudades fortificadas, y desde las ciudades fortificadas hasta el Río, y de mar a mar, y de monte a monte. ^7:13Y la tierra con sus moradores será asolada por el fruto de sus obras.

^7:14“Apacienta a tu pueblo con tu cayado, el rebaño de tu heredad, que mora solo en el bosque, en medio del Carmelo; que pasten en Basán y Galaad, como en el tiempo pasado. ^7:15Yo les mostraré maravillas como el día que saliste de la tierra de Egipto. ^7:16Las naciones verán, y quedarán confundidas de todo su poderío; pondrán la mano sobre su boca, ensordecerán sus oídos. ^7:17Lamerán el polvo como la serpiente; saldrán de sus agujeros como los gusanos de la tierra, temblarán en sus encierros; tendrán pavor de Jehová nuestro Dios, y temerán de ti”.

^7:18“¿Qué Dios como tú, que perdona la maldad y olvida el pecado del remanente de su heredad?

“No retuvo para siempre su enojo: porque se complace en la misericordia. ^7:19Él volverá, él tendrá misericordia de nosotros; él sujetará nuestras iniquidades, y echará en lo profundo del mar todos nuestros pecados.

^7:20“Otorgarás a Jacob la verdad, y a Abraham la misericordia, que tú juraste a nuestros padres desde tiempos antiguos”.
