Joshua & Judges, Chapter 1.5: Joshua sent the twelve tribes of Israel to occupy and subdue the Promised Land (21:43 - 24:33)

^22:1Then Joshua called the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh; ^22:2and he said to them, “You have kept all that Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded you, and have obeyed my voice in all that I commanded you. ^22:3You have not left your brethren these many days until this day, but have kept the charge of the Commandment of Jehovah your God.

^22:4“And now Jehovah your God has given rest to your brethren, as he promised them; therefore now return, and go to your tents, and to the land of your possession, which Moses the servant of Jehovah gave you on the other side of Jordan. ^22:5But take diligent heed to do the Commandment and the Law, which Moses the servant of Jehovah charged you: to love Jehovah your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his Commandments, and to be faithful to him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.” ^22:6So Joshua blessed them, and sent them away; and they went to their tents.

^22:7Now to the one half of the tribe of Manasseh Moses had given possession in Bashan; but to the other half of it gave Joshua possession among their brethren on this side of Jordan westward.

And when Joshua sent them away also to their tents, then he blessed them; ^22:8and he spoke to them, saying, “Return with much wealth to your tents, and with very many cattle, with silver, and with gold, and with bronze, and with iron, and with very much clothing. Divide the plunder of your enemies with your brethren.”

¶Opposite   The congregation of Israel in Canaan was outraged at the news that the tribes in Gilead had built an altar by Jordan (22:9 - 22:14)

^22:9And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh returned; and they departed from the children of Israel out of Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan, to go to the country of Gilead, to the land of their possession, which they had possessed according to the Word of Jehovah by the hand of Moses.

^22:10And when they came to the borders of Jordan, that are in the land of Canaan, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh built there an altar by Jordan: a great altar to behold.

^22:11And the children of Israel heard say, “Behold, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh have built an altar over against the land of Canaan, in the borders of Jordan, at the passage of the children of Israel.”

^22:12And when the children of Israel heard of this, the whole congregation of the children of Israel gathered themselves together at Shiloh, to go up to make war against them.

^22:13And the children of Israel sent to the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the half tribe of Manasseh, into the land of Gilead, Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest; ^22:14and with him ten princes, of each chief house a prince throughout all the tribes of Israel; and each one was a leader of the house of their fathers among the thousands of Israel.

And they spoke with them, saying, ^22:16“Thus says the whole congregation of Jehovah: ‘What trespass is this that you have committed against the God of Israel, to turn away this day from following Jehovah, in that you have built yourself an altar, that you might rebel this day against Jehovah?

^22:17“Is the iniquity of Peor too little for us, from which we have not been cleansed until this day, although there was a plague in the congregation of Jehovah, ^22:18but that you must turn away this day from following Jehovah? And it will be, seeing you rebel today against Jehovah, that tomorrow he will be angry with the whole congregation of Israel.”

^22:19“Notwithstanding, if the land of your possession is unclean, then pass over to the land of the possession of Jehovah, in which Jehovah's Tabernacle dwells, and take possession among us.

“But do not rebel against Jehovah, nor rebel against us, in building you an altar beside the altar of Jehovah our God.

^22:20“Did not Achan the son of Zerah commit a trespass in the cursed thing, and wrath fell on all the congregation of Israel? And that man did not perish alone in his iniquity.’”

¶Complement   The tribes in Gilead and Bashan explained that the altar was a memorial to Jehovah their God, and not an altar for sacrifice (22:21 - 22:29)

^22:21Then the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh answered and said to the heads of the thousands of Israel, ^22:22“Jehovah God of gods, Jehovah God of gods, he knows; and Israel, he shall know; if it is in rebellion, or if in transgression against Jehovah (save us not this day), ^22:23that we have built us an altar to turn from following Jehovah, or if to offer on it burnt offering or meal offering, or if to offer peace offerings on it, let Jehovah himself require it.

^22:24“And if we have not rather done it for fear of this thing, saying, ‘In time to come your children might speak to our children, saying, ‘What have you to do with Jehovah God of Israel? ^22:25For Jehovah has made Jordan a border between us and you: you children of Reuben and children of Gad; you have no part in Jehovah’’: so shall your children make our children cease from fearing Jehovah.

^22:26“Therefore we said, ‘Let us now prepare to build us an altar, not for burnt offering, nor for sacrifice; ^22:27but that it may be a witness between us, and you, and our generations after us, that we might do the service of Jehovah before him with our burnt offerings, and with our sacrifices, and with our peace offerings; that your children may not say to our children in time to come, ‘You have no part in Jehovah.’’”

^22:28“Therefore we said that it shall be, when they should so say to us or to our generations in time to come, that we may say in reply, ‘Behold the pattern of the altar of Jehovah, which our fathers made, not for burnt offerings, nor for sacrifices; but it is a witness between us and you.’

^22:29“God forbid that we should rebel against Jehovah, and turn this day from following Jehovah, to build an altar for burnt offerings, for meal offerings, or for sacrifices, beside the altar of Jehovah our God that is before his Tabernacle.”

¶Complement   The messengers were pleased at their explanation and reported it to the congregation (22:30 - 34)

^22:30And when Phinehas the priest, and the princes of the congregation and heads of the thousands of Israel which were with him, heard the words that the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the children of Manasseh spoke, it pleased them.

^22:31And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest said to the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the children of Manasseh, “This day we perceive that Jehovah is among us, because you have not committed this trespass against Jehovah.

“Now you have delivered the children of Israel out of the hand of Jehovah.”

^22:32And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, and the princes, returned from the children of Reuben, and from the children of Gad, out of the land of Gilead, to the land of Canaan, to the children of Israel; and they brought them word again. ^22:33And the thing pleased the children of Israel; and the children of Israel blessed God; and they did not intend to go up against them in battle, to destroy the land in which the children of Reuben and Gad dwelt.

^22:34And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad called the altar Witness: for “it shall be a witness between us that Jehovah is the true God.”

¶Opposite   Joshua urged the children of Israel to keep the Law of Moses and be faithful to Jehovah (23:1 - 23:10)

^23:1And it came to pass a long time after that Jehovah had given rest to Israel from all their enemies round about, that Joshua grew old and advanced in age.

^23:2And Joshua called for all Israel, and for their elders, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers; and he said to them, “I am old and advanced in age. ^23:3And you have seen all that Jehovah your God has done to all these nations because of you: for Jehovah your God is he that has fought for you.

^23:4“Behold, I have divided to you by lot these nations that remain, to be an inheritance for your tribes, from Jordan, with all the nations that I have cut off, even to the great sea westward. ^23:5And Jehovah your God, he shall expel them from before you, and drive them from out of your sight. And you shall possess their land, as Jehovah your God has promised to you.”

^23:6“Therefore be very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, that you do not turn aside from it to the right hand or to the left; ^23:7that you do not associate with these nations, these that remain among you; neither make mention of the names of their gods, nor cause to swear by them; neither serve them, nor bow yourselves to them.

^23:8“But be faithful to Jehovah your God, as you have done until this day. ^23:9For Jehovah has driven out from before you great and strong nations. But as for you, no man has been able to stand before you until this day. ^23:10One man of you shall chase a thousand: for Jehovah your God, he it is that is fighting for you, as he has promised you.”

^23:11“Take good heed therefore to yourselves, that you love Jehovah your God.

^23:12“Otherwise, if you do in any manner backslide, and unite to the remnant of these nations, even these that remain among you, and shall make marriages with them, and go in to them, and they to you: ^23:13know for a certainty that Jehovah your God will no longer drive out any of these nations from before you. But they shall be snares and traps to you, and scourges in your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from off this good land which Jehovah your God has given you.”

^23:14“And, behold, this day, I am going the way of all the earth. And you know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing has failed of all the good things which Jehovah your God spoke concerning you. All have come to pass to you, and not one thing has failed of it.

^23:15“Therefore it shall come to pass, that as all good things have come upon you, which Jehovah your God promised you, so shall Jehovah bring upon you all evil things, until he has destroyed you from off this good land which Jehovah your God has given you.

^23:16“When you have transgressed the Covenant of Jehovah your God, which he commanded you, and you have gone and served other gods, and bowed yourselves to them, then shall the anger of Jehovah be kindled against you; and you shall perish quickly from off the good land which he has given to you.”

^24:2And Joshua said to all the people, “Thus says Jehovah God of Israel: ‘Your fathers dwelt on the other side of the Euphrates river long ago, even Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nahor; and they served other gods. ^24:3And I took your father Abraham from the other side of the Euphrates river; and I led him throughout all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed, and gave him Isaac. ^24:4And I gave Jacob and Esau to Isaac; and I gave mount Seir to Esau, to possess it; but Jacob and his children went down into Egypt. ^24:5Also I sent Moses and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt, according to that which I did among them; and afterwards I brought you out. ^24:6And I brought your fathers out of Egypt; and you came to the Red Sea. And the Egyptians pursued after your fathers with chariots and horsemen to the Red Sea. ^24:7And when they cried to Jehovah, he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea upon them, and covered them. And your eyes have seen what I have done in Egypt; and you dwelt in the wilderness a long season. ^24:8And I brought you into the land of the Amorites, which dwelt on the other side of Jordan; and they fought with you. And I gave them into your hand, that you might possess their land; and I destroyed them from before you. ^24:9Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and made war against Israel; and he sent and called Balaam the son of Beor to curse you; ^24:10but I would not listen to Balaam; therefore he blessed you still. So I delivered you out of his hand. ^24:11And you went over Jordan, and came to Jericho; and the men of Jericho fought against you; also the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; and I delivered them into your hand. ^24:12And I sent the hornet before you, which drove them out from before you, even the two kings of the Amorites; but not with your sword, nor with your bow. ^24:13And I have given you a land for which you labored not, and cities that you built not, and you dwell in them; of the vineyards and olive yards which you planted not do you eat.’”

^24:14“Now therefore fear Jehovah, and serve him in sincerity and in truth; and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the Euphrates river, and in Egypt; and serve Jehovah. ^24:15And if it seems evil to you to serve Jehovah, choose you this day whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the Euphrates river, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve Jehovah.” ^24:16And the people answered and said, “God forbid that we should forsake Jehovah, to serve other gods: ^24:17for Jehovah our God, he it is that brought us up and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery, and which did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way which we went in, and among all the people through whom we passed; ^24:18and Jehovah drove out from before us all the people, even the Amorites which dwelt in the land; therefore will we also serve Jehovah: for he is our God.”

^24:19And Joshua said to the people, “You cannot serve Jehovah: for he is a holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins. ^24:20If you forsake Jehovah, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you harm, and consume you, after that he has done you good.” ^24:21And the people said to Joshua, “No; but we will serve Jehovah.” ^24:22And Joshua said to the people, “You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen you Jehovah, to serve him.” And they said, ”We are witnesses.” ^24:23“Now therefore put away,” said he, “the strange gods which are among you, and incline your heart to Jehovah God of Israel.” ^24:24And the people said to Joshua, “Jehovah our God will we serve, and his voice will we obey.”

^24:25So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and set them a Statute and an Ordinance in Shechem. ^24:26And Joshua wrote these words in the Book of the Law of God, and took a great stone, and set it up there under an oak, that was by the Sanctuary of Jehovah. ^24:27And Joshua said to all the people, “Behold, this stone shall be a witness to us: for it has heard all the words of Jehovah which he spoke to us; therefore it shall be a witness to you, lest you deny your God.” ^24:28So Joshua let the people depart, every man to his inheritance.

^24:29And it came to pass after these things, that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Jehovah, died, being one hundred and ten years old.

^24:30And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath-serah, which is in mount Ephraim, on the north side of the hill of Gaash.

^24:31And Israel served Jehovah all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, and those which had known all the works of Jehovah, that he had done for Israel.

^24:32And the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel brought up out of Egypt, buried they in Shechem, in a parcel of ground which Jacob bought of the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for one hundred pieces of silver; and it became the inheritance of the children of Joseph.

^24:33And Eleazar the son of Aaron died; and they buried him in a hill that belonged to Phinehas his son, which was given him in mount Ephraim.

Que si fue por rebelión o por prevaricación contra Jehová, no nos salves hoy. ^22:23Que si nos hemos edificado altar para tornarnos de en pos de Jehová, o para sacrificar holocausto o presente, o para hacer sobre él sacrificios de paz, el mismo Jehová nos lo demande.

^22:24“Asimismo, si no lo hicimos por temor de esto, diciendo, ‘Mañana vuestros hijos dirán a nuestros hijos, ‘¿Qué tenéis que ver ustedes con Jehová, el Dios de Israel? ^22:25 Jehová ha puesto por término el Jordán entre nosotros y ustedes, oh hijos de Rubén e hijos de Gad; no tenéis ustedes parte en Jehová’’. Y así vuestros hijos harán que nuestros hijos no teman a Jehová.

^22:26“Por esto dijimos, ‘Hagamos ahora por edificarnos un altar, no para holocausto ni para sacrificio, ^22:27sino para que sea un testimonio entre nosotros y ustedes, y entre los que vendrán después de nosotros, de que podemos hacer el servicio de Jehová delante de él con nuestros holocaustos, con nuestros sacrificios, y con nuestras ofrendas de paz; y no digan mañana vuestros hijos a los nuestros, ‘Ustedes no tenéis parte en Jehová’’”.

^22:28“Nosotros, pues, dijimos, ‘Si aconteciere que tal digan a nosotros, o a nuestras generaciones en lo por venir, entonces responderemos, ‘Mirad el símil del altar de Jehová, el cual hicieron nuestros padres, no para holocaustos o sacrificios, sino para que fuese testimonio entre nosotros y ustedes’.

^22:29“Nunca tal acontezca que nos rebelemos contra Jehová, o que nos apartemos hoy de seguir a Jehová, edificando altar para holocaustos, para presente, o para sacrificio, a más del altar de Jehová nuestro Dios que está delante de su Tabernáculo”.

¶El complemento   Los mensajeros estaban complacidos con su explicación y la informaron a la congregación (22:30 - 34)

^22:30Y cuando Finees el sacerdote y los príncipes de la congregación, y las cabezas de la multitud de Israel que con él estaban, oyeron las palabras que hablaron los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad y los hijos de Manasés, les pareció bien.

^22:31Y dijo Finees hijo del sacerdote Eleazar, a los hijos de Rubén, a los hijos de Gad, y a los hijos de Manasés, “Hoy hemos entendido que Jehová está entre nosotros, pues que no habéis intentado esta traición contra Jehová.

“Ahora habéis librado a los hijos de Israel de la mano de Jehová”.

^22:32Y Finees hijo del sacerdote Eleazar, y los príncipes, se volvieron de con los hijos de Rubén, y de con los hijos de Gad, de la tierra de Galaad a la tierra de Canaán, a los hijos de Israel; a los cuales dieron la respuesta. ^22:33Y el asunto agradó a los hijos de Israel, y bendijeron a Dios los hijos de Israel; y no hablaron más de subir contra ellos en guerra, para destruir la tierra en que habitaban los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad.

^22:34Y los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad pusieron por nombre al altar Ed; pues dijeron, “Será un testimonio entre nosotros que Jehová es Dios verdadero”.

¶Lo opuesto   Josué instó a los hijos de Israel a guardar la Ley de Moisés y ser fieles a Jehová (23:1 - 23:10)

^23:1Y aconteció, muchos días después que Jehová dio reposo a Israel de todos sus enemigos alrededor, que Josué, siendo viejo, y entrado en días.

^23:2Y Josué llamó para todo Israel, a sus ancianos, a sus príncipes, a sus jueces y a sus oficiales, y les dijo, “Yo ya soy viejo y entrado en días. ^23:3Y ustedes habéis visto todo lo que Jehová vuestro Dios ha hecho con todas estas naciones en vuestra presencia: porque Jehová vuestro Dios ha peleado por ustedes.

^23:4“He aquí, os he repartido por suerte, en herencia para vuestras tribus, estas naciones, así las destruidas como las que quedan, desde el Jordán hasta el Mar Grande hacia donde el sol se pone. ^23:5Y Jehová vuestro Dios las echará de delante de ustedes, y las lanzará de vuestra presencia; y ustedes poseeréis sus tierras, como Jehová vuestro Dios os ha dicho”.

^23:6“Esforzaos pues mucho a guardar y hacer todo lo que está escrito en el Libro de la Ley de Moisés, sin apartaros de ello ni a derecha ni a izquierda; ^23:7para que no os mezcléis con estas naciones que han quedado con ustedes, no hagáis mención ni juréis por el nombre de sus dioses, ni los sirváis, ni os inclinéis a ellos.

^23:8“Pero a Jehová vuestro Dios seguiréis, como habéis hecho hasta hoy; ^23:9pues Jehová ha echado de delante de ustedes a grandes y fuertes naciones, y hasta hoy nadie ha podido permanecer delante de ustedes. ^23:10Un varón de ustedes perseguirá a mil: porque Jehová vuestro Dios pelea por ustedes, como él os dijo”.

¶Lo opuesto   Josué advirtió a los hijos de Israel que no volvieran a la idolatría, lo que los destruiría (23:11 - 16)

^23:11“Por tanto, cuidad mucho por vuestras almas, que améis a Jehová vuestro Dios.

^23:12“Porque si os apartareis, y os uniereis a lo que resta de estas naciones que han quedado con ustedes, y si concertareis con ellas matrimonios, y entrareis a ellas, y ellas a ustedes; ^23:13sabed que Jehová vuestro Dios no echará más a estas naciones de delante de ustedes; antes os serán por lazo, y por tropiezo, y por azote para vuestros costados, y por espinas para vuestros ojos, hasta tanto que perezcáis de esta buena tierra que Jehová vuestro Dios os ha dado”.

^23:14“Y he aquí que yo estoy para entrar hoy por el camino de toda la tierra; reconoced, pues, con todo vuestro corazón y con toda vuestra alma, que no se ha perdido una Palabra de todas las buenas palabras que Jehová vuestro Dios había dicho de ustedes; todas os han venido, no ha faltado ninguna de ellas.

^23:15“Pero será, que como ha venido sobre ustedes toda palabra buena que Jehová vuestro Dios os había dicho, así también traerá Jehová sobre ustedes toda palabra mala, hasta destruiros de sobre la buena tierra que Jehová vuestro Dios os ha dado.

^23:16“Si traspasareis el Pacto de Jehová vuestro Dios que él os ha mandado, yendo y honrando dioses ajenos, e inclinándoos a ellos, entonces el furor de Jehová se inflamará contra ustedes, y pereceréis luego de esta buena tierra que él os ha dado”.

§Único   Conclusión: El pueblo de Israel aceptaron un pacto con Josué para servir a Jehová, y ellos continuaron siguiendo a Jehová después de su muerte (24:1 - 33)

¶El complemento   Josué hizo un pacto con el pueblo de Israel para servir a Jehová su Dios (24:1 - 28)

^24:1Y juntando Josué a todas las tribus de Israel en Siquem, llamó a los ancianos de Israel, a sus príncipes, a sus jueces y a sus oficiales; y se presentaron delante de Dios.

^24:2Y dijo Josué a todo el pueblo, “Así dice Jehová, Dios de Israel, ‘Vuestros padres habitaron antiguamente al otro lado del río, esto es, Taré, padre de Abraham y de Nacor; y servían a dioses extraños. ^24:3Y yo tomé a vuestro padre Abraham del otro lado del río, y lo traje por toda la tierra de Canaán, y aumenté su generación, y le di a Isaac. ^24:4Y a Isaac di a Jacob y a Esaú; y a Esaú di el monte de Seir, que lo poseyese; pero Jacob y sus hijos descendieron a Egipto. ^24:5Y yo envié a Moisés y a Aarón, y herí a Egipto, al modo que lo hice en medio de él, y después os saqué. ^24:6Y saqué a vuestros padres de Egipto; y como llegaron al mar, los egipcios siguieron a vuestros padres hasta el Mar Rojo con carros y caballería. ^24:7Y cuando clamaron a Jehová, él puso oscuridad entre ustedes y los egipcios, e hizo venir sobre ellos el mar, el cual los cubrió; y vuestros ojos vieron lo que hice en Egipto. Después estuvisteis muchos días en el desierto. ^24:8Y os introduje en la tierra de los amorreos, que habitaban al otro lado del Jordán, los cuales pelearon contra ustedes; pero yo los entregué en vuestras manos, y poseísteis su tierra, y los destruí de delante de ustedes. ^24:9Y se levantó después Balac hijo de Zipor, rey de los moabitas, y peleó contra Israel; y envió a llamar a Balaam hijo de Beor, para que os maldijese. ^24:10Pero yo no quise escuchar a Balaam y él tuvo que bendeciros; así os libré yo de sus manos. ^24:11Y pasado el Jordán, vinisteis a Jericó; y los moradores de Jericó pelearon contra ustedes: también los amorreos, ferezeos, cananeos, heteos, gergeseos, heveos, y jebuseos; y yo los entregué en vuestras manos. ^24:12Y envié avispas delante de ustedes, las cuales echaron de delante de ustedes a los dos reyes de los amorreos; pero no con tu espada, ni con tu arco. ^24:13Y os di la tierra por la cual nada trabajasteis, y las ciudades que no edificasteis, en las cuales moráis; y de las viñas y olivares que no plantasteis, coméis’”.

^24:14“Ahora pues, temed a Jehová, y servidle con integridad y en verdad; y quitad de en medio los dioses a los cuales sirvieron vuestros padres al otro lado del río, y en Egipto; y servid a Jehová. ^24:15Y si mal os parece servir a Jehová, escogeos hoy a quién sirváis; si a los dioses a quienes sirvieron vuestros padres, cuando estuvieron al otro lado del río, o a los dioses de los amorreos en cuya tierra habitáis; pero yo y mi casa serviremos a Jehová”. ^24:16Entonces el pueblo respondió, y dijo, “Nunca tal acontezca, que dejemos a Jehová para servir a otros dioses: ^24:17porque Jehová nuestro Dios es el que nos sacó a nosotros y a nuestros padres de la tierra de Egipto, de la casa de servidumbre, el cual ha hecho estas grandes señales delante de nuestros ojos, y nos ha guardado por todo el camino por donde hemos andado y en todos los pueblos por entre los cuales pasamos. ^24:18Y Jehová echó de delante de nosotros a todos los pueblos, y al amorreo que habitaba en la tierra; nosotros, pues, también serviremos a Jehová: porque él es nuestro Dios”.

^24:19Entonces Josué dijo al pueblo, “No podréis servir a Jehová: porque él es Dios santo; y Dios celoso; no sufrirá vuestras rebeliones y vuestros pecados. ^24:20Si dejareis a Jehová y sirviereis a dioses ajenos, él se volverá y os hará daño; y os consumirá, después que os ha hecho bien”. ^24:21El pueblo entonces dijo a Josué, “No, sino que serviremos a Jehová”. ^24:22Y Josué respondió al pueblo, “Ustedes sois testigos contra ustedes mismos, de que os habéis elegido a Jehová para servirle”. Y respondieron, “Testigos somos”. ^24:23“Quitad, pues, ahora los dioses ajenos que están entre ustedes, e inclinad vuestro corazón a Jehová, Dios de Israel”. ^24:24Y el pueblo respondió a Josué, “A Jehová nuestro Dios serviremos, y a su voz obedeceremos”.

^24:25Entonces Josué hizo pacto con el pueblo el mismo día, y le puso ordenanzas y leyes en Siquem. ^24:26Y escribió Josué estas palabras en el Libro de la Ley de Dios; y tomando una gran piedra, la levantó allí debajo de un alcornoque que estaba junto al santuario de Jehová. ^24:27Y dijo Josué a todo el pueblo, “He aquí esta piedra nos servirá de testigo: porque ella ha oído todas las palabras de Jehová que él nos ha hablado; será, pues, testigo contra ustedes, para que no mintáis contra vuestro Dios”. ^24:28Y envió Josué al pueblo, cada uno a su heredad.

¶El complemento   Israel sirvió a Jehová durante la generación de Josué y los ancianos que sobrevivió a él (24:29 - 33)

^24:29Y después de estas cosas murió Josué, hijo de Nun, siervo de Jehová siendo de ciento diez años.

^24:30Y lo enterraron en el término de su posesión en Timnat-sera, que está en el monte de Efraín, al norte del monte de Gaas.

^24:31Y sirvió Israel a Jehová todo el tiempo de Josué, y todo el tiempo de los ancianos que vivieron después de Josué, y que sabían todas las obras de Jehová, que había hecho por Israel.

^24:32Y enterraron en Siquem los huesos de José que los hijos de Israel habían traído de Egipto, en la parte del campo que Jacob compró de los hijos de Hamor padre de Siquem, por cien piezas de plata; y fue en posesión a los hijos de José.

^24:33También murió Eleazar, hijo de Aarón; al cual enterraron en el collado de Finees su hijo, que le fue dado en el monte de Efraín.
