^3:3And Solomon loved Jehovah, walking in the Statutes of David his father; only he sacrificed and burned incense in high places. ^3:4And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there: for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar.

^3:5In Gibeon Jehovah appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask what I shall give you.” ^3:6And Solomon said, “You have shown to your servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before you in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with you; and you have kept for him this great kindness, that you have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. ^3:7And now, O Jehovah my God, you have made your servant king instead of David my father; and I am but a little child; I know not how to go out nor come in. ^3:8And your servant is in the midst of your people that you have chosen, a great people that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. ^3:9Give therefore your servant an understanding heart to judge your people, that I may discern between good and evil: for who is able to judge this your people who are so great?”

^3:10And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. ^3:11And God said to him, “Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked for yourself long life; neither have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies; but have asked for yourself understanding to discern judgment, ^3:12behold, I have done according to your words: lo, I have given you a wise and an understanding heart, so that there were none like you before you; neither after you shall any arise like you. ^3:13And I have also given you that which you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that there shall not be any among the kings like you all your days. ^3:14And if you will walk in my ways, to keep my Statutes and my Commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your life.”

^3:15And Solomon awoke; and behold, it was a dream.

And he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the Ark of the Covenant of Jehovah, and offered up burnt offerings, and offered peace offerings, and made a feast to all his servants.

^3:16Then two women, who were prostitutes, came to the king, and stood before him. ^3:17And the one woman said, “O my lord, this woman and I dwell in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house. ^3:18And it came to pass the third day after that I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also; and we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, except us two in the house. ^3:19And this woman’s child died in the night; because she smothered it. ^3:20And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while your maidservant slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom. ^3:21And when I rose in the morning to nurse my child, behold, it was dead; but when I had considered it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, which I bore.” ^3:22And the other woman said, “No; but the living is my son, and the dead is your son.” And this said, “No; but the dead is your son, and the living is my son.” Thus they spoke before the king.

^3:23Then the king said, “One says, ‘This is my son that lives, and your son is the dead’; and the other says, ‘No; but your son is the dead, and my son is the living.’” ^3:24And the king said, “Bring me a sword.” And they brought a sword before the king. ^3:25And the king said, “Divide the living child in two; and give half to the one, and half to the other.” ^3:26Then the woman whose the living child was spoke to the king, for her affections yearned upon her son, and she said, “O my lord, give her the living child, and do not kill it!” But the other said, “Let it be neither mine nor yours, but divide it.”

^3:27Then the king answered and said, “Give her the living child, and do not kill it; she is its mother.” ^3:28And all Israel heard of the judgment that the king had judged; and they were afraid of the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do judgment.

^4:1So king Solomon was king over all Israel. ^4:2And these were the princes that he had: Azariah the son of Zadok the priest, ^4:3Elihoreph and Ahiah, the sons of Shisha, scribes, and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud, the recorder. ^4:4And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the army; and Zadok and Abiathar were the priests; ^4:5and Azariah the son of Nathan was over the officers; and Zabud the son of Nathan was principal officer, and the king’s friend; ^4:6and Ahishar was over the household; and Adoniram the son of Abda was over the tribute. ^4:7And Solomon had twelve officers over all Israel, which provided sustenance for the king and his household: each man his month in a year made provision; ^4:8and these are their names: the son of Hur, in mount Ephraim; ^4:9the son of Dekar, in Makaz, and in Shaalbim, and Beth-shemesh, and Elon-beth-hanan; ^4:10the son of Hesed, in Aruboth: to him pertained Shochoh, and all the land of Hepher; ^4:11the son of Abinadab, in all the region of Dor (which had Taphath the daughter of Solomon to be his wife); ^4:12Baana the son of Ahilud: to him pertained Taanach and Megiddo, and all Beth-shean (which is by Zartanah beneath Jezreel, from Beth-shean to Abel-meholah, even to the place that is beyond Jokneam); ^4:13the son of Geber, in Ramoth-gilead: to him pertained the towns of Jair the son of Manasseh, which are in Gilead (to him also pertained the region of Argob, which is in Bashan: sixty great cities with walls and bronze bars); ^4:14Ahinadab the son of Iddo had Mahanaim; ^4:15Ahimaaz was in Naphtali (he also took Basmath the daughter of Solomon to be his wife); ^4:16Baanah the son of Hushai was in Asher and in Aloth; ^4:17Jehoshaphat the son of Paruah, in Issachar; ^4:18Shimei the son of Elah, in Benjamin; ^4:19Geber the son of Uri was in the country of Gilead, in the country of Sihon king of the Amorites, and of Og king of Bashan; and he was the only officer which was in the land.

^4:20Judah and Israel were many, as the sand which is by the sea in multitude: eating, drinking, and making merry. ^4:21And Solomon reigned over all kingdoms from the Euphrates river to the land of the Philistines, and to the border of Egypt: they brought presents, and served Solomon all the days of his life. ^4:22And Solomon’s provision for one day was thirty measures of fine flour, sixty measures of meal, ^4:23ten fat oxen, twenty oxen out of the pastures, and one hundred sheep: beside stags, gazelles, fallow deer, and fattened birds: ^4:24for he had dominion over all the region on this side of the Euphrates river, from Tiphsah even to Azzah, over all the kings on this side the Euphrates river; and he had peace on all sides round about him. ^4:25And Judah and Israel dwelt safely, every man under his vine and under his fig tree, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, all the days of Solomon. ^4:26And Solomon had forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen. ^4:27And those officers provided food for king Solomon, and for all that came to king Solomon’s table, every man in his month: they lacked nothing. ^4:28Barley also and straw for the horses and dromedaries brought they to the place where the officers were, every man according to his responsibility.

^4:29And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceedingly much; and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the seashore. ^4:30And Solomon’s wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt: ^4:31for he was wiser than all men: than Ethan the Ezrahite, Heman, Chalcol, and Darda: the sons of Mahol; and his fame was in all nations round about. ^4:32And he spoke three thousand proverbs; and his songs were one thousand and five. ^4:33And he spoke of trees, from the cedar tree that is in Lebanon even to the hyssop that springs out of the wall; he spoke also of animals, and of birds, and of creeping things, and of fish. ^4:34And there came of all people to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the earth, which had heard of his wisdom.

^5:1And Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants to Solomon: for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the place of his father: for Hiram was always a friend of David. ^5:2And Solomon sent to Hiram, saying, ^5:3“You know how that David my father could not build a House to the Name of Jehovah his God for the wars that were about him on every side, until Jehovah put them under the soles of his feet. ^5:4But now Jehovah my God has given me rest on every side, so that neither adversary nor evil is stirring. ^5:5And, behold, I plan to build a House to the Name of Jehovah my God, as Jehovah spoke to David my father, saying, ‘Your son, whom I will set upon your throne in your room, he shall build a House to my Name.’ ^5:6Now therefore command that they cut me cedar trees out of Lebanon; and my servants shall be with your servants; and I will give wages to you for your servants according to all that you shall appoint: for you know that there is not among us any that can skill to cut timber like the Sidonians.” ^5:7And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, “Blessed is Jehovah this day, which has given to David a wise son over this great people.” ^5:8And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, “I have considered the things that you sent to me for; and I will do all your desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning timber of fir. ^5:9My servants shall bring them down from Lebanon to the sea; and I will convey them by sea in floats to the place that you shall appoint me, and will cause them to be discharged there, and you shall receive them; and you shall accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.”

^5:10So Hiram gave Solomon cedar trees and fir trees according to all his desire. ^5:11And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of wheat for food to his household, and twenty measures of pure olive oil: thus Solomon gave to Hiram year by year. ^5:12And Jehovah gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him. And there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a treaty together. ^5:13And king Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men. ^5:14And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by shifts: they were in Lebanon one month, and two months at home; and Adoniram supervised the levy. ^5:15And Solomon had seventy thousand that carried burdens, and eighty thousand cutters in the mountains, ^5:16beside the chief of Solomon’s officers that were over the work, three thousand and three hundred, which supervised the people that labored in the work. ^5:17And the king commanded, and they brought large stones, expensive stones, and sawn stones, to lay the foundation of the House. ^5:18And Solomon’s builders and Hiram’s builders sawed them, and the stonesquarers. So they prepared timber and stones to build the House.

¶Opposite   Solomon constructed the Temple of Jehovah and his own house

^6:1And it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel had come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month Zif, which is the second month, that he began to build the House of Jehovah. ^6:2And the House that king Solomon built for Jehovah, its length was sixty cubits, and its breadth twenty cubits, and its height thirty cubits. ^6:3And the porch before the Temple of the House, twenty cubits was its length, according to the breadth of the House; and ten cubits was its breadth before the House. ^6:4And for the House he made windows of narrow lights. ^6:5And against the wall of the House he built chambers round about: against the walls of the House round about, both of the Temple and of the oracle. And he made chambers round about: ^6:6the lowermost chamber was five cubits broad, and the middle was six cubits broad, and the third was seven cubits broad: for outside in the wall of the House he made narrowed rests round about, so that the beams would not be fastened in the walls of the House. ^6:7And the House, when it was in building, was built of stone made ready before it was brought there, so that neither hammer nor ax nor any tool of iron was heard in the House, while it was in building. ^6:8The door for the middle chamber was in the right side of the House; and they went up with winding stairs into the middle chamber, and out of the middle into the third. ^6:9So he built the House, and finished it; and covered the House with beams and boards of cedar. ^6:10And then he built chambers against the entire House, five cubits high; and they rested on the House with timber of cedar. ^6:11And the Word of Jehovah came to Solomon, saying, ^6:12“Concerning this House which you are building, if you will walk in my Statutes, and execute my Judgments, and keep all my Commandments to walk in them, then will I perform my Word with you, which I spoke to David your father; ^6:13and I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel.”

^6:14So Solomon built the House, and finished it. ^6:15And he built the walls of the House within with boards of cedar, both the floor of the House, and the walls of the ceiling; and he covered them on the inside with wood, and covered the floor of the House with planks of fir. ^6:16And he built twenty cubits on the sides of the House, both the floor and the walls with boards of cedar: he even built them for it within, even for the oracle, even for the most holy place. ^6:17And the House, that is, the Temple before it, was forty cubits long. ^6:18And the cedar of the House within was carved with knops and open flowers; all was cedar: no stone was seen. ^6:19And he prepared the oracle within the House, to set there the Ark of the Covenant of Jehovah. ^6:20And the oracle in the forepart was twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in its height; and he overlaid it with pure gold, and so covered the altar that was of cedar. ^6:21So Solomon overlaid the House within with pure gold; and he made a partition by the chains of gold before the oracle; and he overlaid it with gold. ^6:22And he overlaid the whole House with gold, until he had finished the entire House. Also he overlaid the whole altar that was by the oracle with gold. ^6:23And within the oracle he made two cherubims of olive tree: each were ten cubits high. ^6:24And one wing of the cherub was five cubits long; and the other wing of the cherub was five cubits: the distance from the uttermost part of one wing to the uttermost part of the other was ten cubits. ^6:25And the wingspread of the other cherub was also ten cubits: both the cherubims were the same measure and the same size. ^6:26The height of one cherub was ten cubits, and so was it also of the other cherub. ^6:27And he set the cherubims within the inner House; and they stretched forth the wings of the cherubims, so that the wing of one touched one wall, and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall; and their wings touched one another in the midst of the House. ^6:28And he overlaid the cherubims with gold. ^6:29And he carved all the walls of the House round about with carved figures of cherubims, palm trees, and open flowers, inside and outside. ^6:30And he overlaid the floor of the House with gold, both inside and outside. ^6:31And for the entering of the oracle he made doors of olive tree: the lintel and side posts were a fifth part of the wall. ^6:32The two doors also were of olive tree; and he carved upon them carvings of cherubims, palm trees, and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold, and spread gold upon the cherubims, and upon the palm trees. ^6:33So also he made posts of olive tree for the door of the Temple, a fourth part of the wall. ^6:34And the two doors were of fir tree: the two leaves of one door were folding, and the two leaves of the other door were folding. ^6:35And he carved on them cherubims, palm trees, and open flowers; and covered them with gold fitted upon the carved work. ^6:36And he built the inner court with three rows of cut stone, and a row of cedar beams. ^6:37In the fourth year the foundation of the House of Jehovah was laid, in the month Zif; ^6:38and in the eleventh year, in the month Bul, which is the eighth month, the House was finished throughout all its parts, and according to all its design. So he was seven years in building it.

^7:1But Solomon was building his own house thirteen years, and he finished his entire house. ^7:2He also built the house of the forest of Lebanon: its length was one hundred cubits, and its breadth fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits, upon four rows of cedar pillars, with cedar beams upon the pillars. ^7:3And it was covered with cedar above upon the beams, which lay on forty-five pillars, fifteen in a row. ^7:4And there were windows in three rows, and light was against light in three ranks. ^7:5And all the doors and posts were square, with the windows; and light was against light in three ranks. ^7:6And he made a porch of pillars: its length was fifty cubits, and its breadth thirty cubits; and the porch was before them, and the other pillars and the thick beam were before them. ^7:7Then he made a porch for the throne where he might judge, even the porch of judgment; and it was covered with cedar from one side of the floor to the other. ^7:8And his house where he dwelt had another court within the porch, which was of similar work. Solomon also made a house for Pharaoh’s daughter, whom he had taken to be his wife, like this porch. ^7:9All these were of expensive stones, according to the measures of cut stones, sawn with saws, within and outside, even from the foundation to the coping, and so on the outside toward the great court. ^7:10And the foundation was of expensive stones, even large stones: stones of ten cubits, and stones of eight cubits. ^7:11And above were expensive stones, after the measures of cut stones, and cedars. ^7:12And the great court round about was with three rows of cut stones, and a row of cedar beams, both for the inner court of the House of Jehovah, and for the porch of the house.

^7:13And king Solomon sent and brought Hiram out of Tyre. ^7:14He was a widow’s son of the tribe of Naphtali, and his father was a man of Tyre, a worker in bronze; and he was filled with wisdom and understanding; and was skilled to work all works in bronze. And he came to king Solomon, and performed all his work: ^7:15for he cast two pillars of bronze: eighteen cubits high each; and each had a circumference of twelve cubits. ^7:16And he made two capitals of molten bronze, to set upon the tops of the pillars (the height of one capital was five cubits, and the height of the other capital was five cubits), ^7:17and nets of checker work, and wreaths of chain work, for the capitals which were upon the top of the pillars: seven for one capital, and seven for the other capital. ^7:18And he made the pillars, and two rows round about upon the one network, to cover the capitals that were upon the top, with pomegranates; and so did he for the other capital. ^7:19And the capitals that were upon the top of the pillars were of lily work in the porch: four cubits. ^7:20And the capitals upon the two pillars had pomegranates also above, over against the belly which was by the network; and the pomegranates were two hundred in rows round about upon the other capital. ^7:21And he set up the pillars in the porch of the Temple; and he set up the right pillar, and called its name Jachin; and he set up the left pillar, and he called its name Boaz. ^7:22And upon the top of the pillars was lily work. So the work of the pillars was finished. ^7:23And he made a molten sea, ten cubits from one brim to the other: it was round all about, and his height was five cubits, and it had a circumference of thirty cubits. ^7:24And under its brim round about there were knops circling it, ten in a cubit, circling the sea round about: the knops were cast in two rows, when it was cast. ^7:25It stood upon twelve oxen, three looking toward the north, and three looking toward the west, and three looking toward the south, and three looking toward the east; and the sea was set above upon them, and all their hinder parts were inward. ^7:26And it was a handbreadth thick, and its brim was wrought like the brim of a cup, with flowers of lilies: it contained twelve thousand gallons. ^7:27And he made ten bases of bronze: four cubits was the length of one base, and four cubits its breadth, and three cubits its height. ^7:28And the work of the bases was on this manner: they had borders, and the borders were between the ledges; ^7:29and on the borders that were between the ledges were lions, oxen, and cherubims; and upon the ledges there was a base above; and beneath the lions and oxen were certain additions made of thin work. ^7:30And every base had four bronze wheels, and plates of bronze. And its four corners had undersetters: under the laver were undersetters molten, at the side of every addition. ^7:31And its mouth within the capital and above was one cubit, but its mouth was round after the work of the base: one and a half cubits; and also upon its mouth were engravings with their borders: foursquare, not round. ^7:32And under the borders were four wheels; and the axletrees of the wheels were joined to the base; and the height of a wheel was one and a half cubits. ^7:33And the work of the wheels was like the work of a chariot wheel: their axletrees, their naves, their felloes, and their spokes were all molten. ^7:34And there were four undersetters to the four corners of one base; and the undersetters were of the very base itself. ^7:35And in the top of the base there was a round circle of half a cubit high; and on the top of the base its ledges and its borders were of the same: ^7:36for on the plates of its ledges, and on its borders, he carved cherubim, lions, and palm trees, according to the proportion of every one, and additions round about. ^7:37After this manner he made the ten bases: all of them had one casting, one measure, and one size. ^7:38Then he made ten lavers of bronze: one laver contained two hundred and forty gallons; and every laver was four cubits; and one laver upon each one of the ten bases. ^7:39And he put five bases on the right side of the House, and five on the left side of the House. And he set the sea on the right side of the House eastward over against the south. ^7:40And Hiram made the lavers, the shovels, and the basins. So Hiram made an end of doing all the work that he made king Solomon for the House of Jehovah: ^7:41the two pillars, and the two bowls of the capitals that were on the top of the two pillars, and the two networks, to cover the two bowls of the capitals which were upon the top of the pillars; ^7:42and four hundred pomegranates for the two networks, even two rows of pomegranates for one network, to cover the two bowls of the capitals that were upon the pillars; ^7:43and the ten bases, and ten lavers on the bases; ^7:44and one sea, and twelve oxen under the sea; ^7:45and the pots, the shovels, and the basins. And all these vessels, which Hiram made to king Solomon for the House of Jehovah, were of bright bronze. ^7:46The king cast them in the plain of Jordan, in the clay ground between Succoth and Zarthan. ^7:47And Solomon left all the vessels unweighed, because they were exceedingly many; neither was the weight of the bronze found out. ^7:48And Solomon made all the vessels that pertained to the House of Jehovah, the altar of gold, the table of gold (which the showbread was on), ^7:49the candlesticks of pure gold (five on the right side, and five on the left, before the oracle), with the flowers, the lamps, the tongs of gold, ^7:50the bowls, the snuffers, the basins, the spoons, and the censers of pure gold; and the hinges of gold, both for the doors of the inner House, the most holy place, and for the doors of the House, namely, of the Temple. ^7:51So was ended all the work that king Solomon made for the House of Jehovah.

And Solomon brought in the things which David his father had dedicated: even the silver, the gold, and the vessels, did he put among the treasures of the House of Jehovah.

¶Complement   Solomon brought all Israel together to Jerusalem to dedicate the Temple

^8:1Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the chief of the fathers of the children of Israel, to king Solomon in Jerusalem, so that they might bring up the Ark of the Covenant of Jehovah out of the city of David, which is Zion. ^8:2And all the men of Israel assembled themselves to king Solomon at the feast in the month Ethanim, which is the seventh month. ^8:3And all the elders of Israel came, and the priests took up the Ark. ^8:4And they brought up the Ark of Jehovah. And the Tabernacle of the congregation, and all the holy vessels that were in the Tabernacle: even those did the priests and the Levites bring up. ^8:5And king Solomon, and all the congregation of Israel, that were assembled to him, were with him before the Ark, sacrificing sheep and oxen, that could not be tallied nor numbered for multitude.

^8:6And the priests brought in the Ark of the Covenant of Jehovah to his place, into the oracle of the House, to the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubims: ^8:7for the cherubims spread forth their two wings over the place of the Ark, and the cherubims covered the Ark and its poles above. ^8:8And they drew out the poles, so that the ends of the poles were seen out in the holy place before the oracle, but they were not seen outside; and there they are until this day. ^8:9There was nothing in the Ark except the two tablets of stone, which Moses put there at Horeb, when Jehovah made a Covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt.

^8:10And it came to pass, when the priests had come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the House of Jehovah, ^8:11so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud: for the glory of Jehovah had filled the House of Jehovah.

^8:12Then Solomon said, “Jehovahsaid that he would dwell in thick darkness. ^8:13I have surely built you a House to dwell in, a settled place for you to remain in forever.”

^8:14And the king turned his face about, and blessed all the congregation of Israel; and all the congregation of Israel stood. ^8:15And he said, “Blessed is Jehovah God of Israel, which spoke with his mouth to David my father, and has fulfilled it with his hand, saying, ^8:16‘Since the day that I brought forth my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build a House, that my Name might be in it; but I chose David to be over my people Israel.’ ^8:17And it was in the heart of David my father to build a House for the Name of Jehovah God of Israel. ^8:18And Jehovah said to David my father, ‘Whereas it was in your heart to build a House to my Name, you did well that it was in your heart. ^8:19Nevertheless you shall not build the House; but your son that shall come forth out of your loins, he shall build the House to my Name.’ ^8:20And Jehovah has performed his Word that he spoke; and I have risen up in the place of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as Jehovah promised, and have built a House for the Name of Jehovah God of Israel. ^8:21And I have set there a place for the Ark, in which is the Covenant of Jehovah, which he made with our fathers, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.”

^8:22And Solomon stood before the altar of Jehovah in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward Heaven; ^8:23and he said, “JehovahGod of Israel, there is no God like you, in Heaven above, or on earth beneath, who keeps Covenant and mercy with your servants that walk before you with all their heart, ^8:24who have kept with your servant David my father that which you promised him; you spoke also with your mouth, and have fulfilled it with your hand, as it is this day. ^8:25Therefore now, Jehovah God of Israel, keep with your servant David my father that which you promised him, saying, ‘There shall not fail you a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel, as long as your children take heed to their way, that they walk before me as you have walked before me.’

^8:26“And now, O God of Israel, please, let your Word be verified, which you spoke to your servant David my father. ^8:27But will God truly dwell on the earth? Behold, the heaven and Heaven of heavens cannot contain you; how much less this House that I have built? ^8:28Yet have respect to the prayer of your servant, and to his supplication, O Jehovah my God, to give heed to the cry and to the prayer, which your servant prays before you today, ^8:29that your eyes may be open toward this House night and day, even toward the place of which you have said, ‘My Name shall be there’, that you may listen to the prayer which your servant shall make toward this place. ^8:30And give heed to the supplication of your servant, and of your people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place; and hear in Heaven your dwelling place; and when you hear, forgive. ^8:31If any man trespasses against his neighbor, and an oath is laid upon him to cause him to swear, and the oath comes before your altar in this House, ^8:32then hear in Heaven, and do, and judge your servants, condemning the wicked, to bring his way upon his head; and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness. ^8:33When your people Israel are smitten down before the enemy, because they have sinned against you, and shall turn again to you, and confess your Name, and pray, and make supplication to you in this House, ^8:34then hear in Heaven, and forgive the sin of your people Israel, and bring them again to the land which you gave to their fathers. ^8:35When heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against you: if they pray toward this place, and confess your Name, and turn from their sin, when you afflict them, ^8:36then hear in Heaven, and forgive the sin of your servants, and of your people Israel, so that you teach them the good way that they should walk in, and give rain upon your land, which you have given to your people for an inheritance. ^8:37If there is famine in the land, if there is plague, strong winds, mildew, locust, or if there are caterpillars; if their enemy besieges them in the land of their cities; whatsoever plague, whatsoever sickness there may be; ^8:38whatsoever prayer and supplication is made by any man, or by all your people Israel, which shall know every man the plague of his own heart, and spread forth his hands toward this House, ^8:39then hear in Heaven your dwelling place, and forgive, and do, and give to every man according to his ways (whose heart you know: for you, even you only, know the hearts of all the children of men), ^8:40that they may fear you all the days that they live in the land which you gave to our fathers.

^8:41“Moreover concerning a Gentile, that is not of your people Israel, but comes out of a far country for your Name’s sake ^8:42(for they shall hear of your great Name, and of your strong hand, and of your stretched out arm), when he shall come and pray toward this House, ^8:43hear in Heaven your dwelling place, and do according to all that the Gentile calls to you for, that all people of the earth may know your Name, to fear you, as do your people Israel; and that they may know that this House, which I have built, is called by your Name. ^8:44If your people go out to battle against their enemy, wheresoever you shall send them, and shall pray to Jehovah toward the city which you have chosen, and toward the House that I have built for your Name, ^8:45then hear in Heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause. ^8:46If they sin against you (for there is no man that does not sin), and you are angry with them, and deliver them to the enemy, so that they carry them away captives to the land of the enemy, far or near; ^8:47yet if they shall come to themselves in the land where they were carried captives, and repent, and make supplication to you in the land of them that carried them captives, saying, ‘We have sinned, and have done perversely; we have committed wickedness’, ^8:48and so return to you with all their heart, and with all their soul, in the land of their enemies, which led them away captive, and pray to you toward their land, which you gave to their fathers, the city which you have chosen, and the House which I have built for your Name, ^8:49then hear their prayer and their supplication in Heaven your dwelling place, and maintain their cause, ^8:50and forgive your people that have sinned against you and all their transgressions in which they have transgressed against you, and give them compassion before them who carried them captive, that they may have compassion on them: ^8:51for they are your people and your inheritance, which you brought forth out of Egypt from the midst of the furnace of iron, ^8:52that your eyes may be open to the supplication of your servant, and to the supplication of your people Israel, to give heed to them in all that they call for to you: ^8:53for you separated them from among all the people of the earth to be your inheritance, as you spoke by the hand of Moses your servant, when you brought our fathers out of Egypt, O Lord Jehovah.”

^8:54And it was so, that when Solomon had made an end of praying all this prayer and supplication to Jehovah, he arose from before the altar of Jehovah, from kneeling on his knees with his hands spread up to Heaven. ^8:55And he stood, and blessed all the congregation of Israel with a loud voice, saying, ^8:56“Blessed is Jehovah, that has given rest to his people Israel, according to all that he promised; there has not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant! ^8:57Jehovahour God be with us, as he was with our fathers. Let him not leave us, nor forsake us, ^8:58that he may incline our hearts to him, to walk in all his ways, and to keep his Commandments, and his Statutes, and his Judgments, which he commanded our fathers! ^8:59And let these my words, with which I have made supplication from Jehovah, be near to Jehovah our God day and night, so that he maintains the cause of his servant, and the cause of his people Israel at all times, as the matter shall require, ^8:60that all the people of the earth may know that Jehovah is the true God, and that there is no other! ^8:61Therefore let your heart be loyal with Jehovah our God, to walk in his Statutes, and to keep his Commandments, as at this day!”

^8:62And the king, and all Israel with him, offered sacrifice before Jehovah. ^8:63And Solomon offered a sacrifice of peace offerings, which he offered to Jehovah, twenty-two thousand oxen, and one hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the children of Israel dedicated the House of Jehovah.

¶Unique   Jehovah approved of the Temple as his dwelling place, but only if Solomon and his sons continued to follow Him

^8:64The same day the king hallowed the middle of the court that was before the House of Jehovah: for there he offered burnt offerings, and meal offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings, because the bronze altar that was from Jehovah was too little to receive the burnt offerings, and meal offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings.

^8:65And at that time Solomon held a feast, and all Israel with him, a great congregation, from the entering in of Hamath to the river of Egypt, from Jehovah our God, seven days and seven days: even fourteen days. ^8:66On the eighth day he sent the people away. And they blessed the king, and went to their tents joyful and glad of heart for all the goodness that Jehovah had done for David his servant, and for Israel his people.

^9:1And it came to pass, when Solomon had finished the building of the House of Jehovah, and the king’s house, and all Solomon’s desire which he was pleased to do, ^9:2that Jehovah appeared to Solomon the second time, as he had appeared to him at Gibeon. ^9:3And Jehovah said to him, “I have heard your prayer and your supplication that you have made before me. I have hallowed this House, which you have built, to put my Name there forever; and my eyes and my heart shall be there perpetually. ^9:4And if you will walk before me, as David your father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded you, and will keep my Statutes and my Judgments, ^9:5then will I establish the throne of your kingdom upon Israel forever, as I promised to David your father, saying, ‘There shall not fail you a man upon the throne of Israel.’

^9:6“But if you shall at all turn from following me, you or your children, and will not keep my Commandments and my Statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods, and worship them, ^9:7then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them. And this House, which I have hallowed for my Name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all people.

^9:8“And at this House, which is high, everyone that passes by it shall be astonished, and shall whistle; and they shall say, ‘Why has Jehovah done this to this land, and to this House?’ ^9:9And they shall answer, ‘Because they forsook Jehovah their God, who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have taken hold upon other gods, and have worshipped them, and served them; therefore Jehovah has brought upon them all this evil.’”

^9:14And Hiram sent to the king one hundred and twenty talents of gold.

^9:15And this is the reason of the levy which king Solomon raised: for to build the House of Jehovah, and his own house, and Millo, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, and Megiddo, and Gezer: ^9:16for Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up, and taken Gezer, and burned it with fire, and slain the Canaanites that dwelt in the city; and given it for a present to his daughter, Solomon’s wife. ^9:17And Solomon built Gezer, and Beth-horon the lower, ^9:18and Baalath, and Tadmor in the wilderness, in the land, ^9:19and all the cities of store that Solomon had, and cities for his chariots, and cities for his horsemen, and that which Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion.

^9:20And all the people that were left of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, which were not of the children of Israel, ^9:21their children that were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel also were not able utterly to destroy, upon those did Solomon levy a tribute of slavery until this day. ^9:22But Solomon made no slaves of the children of Israel; but they were men of war, and his servants, and his princes, and his captains, and rulers of his chariots, and his horsemen. ^9:23These were the chief of the officers that were over Solomon’s work, five hundred and fifty, which supervised the people that labored in the work.

^9:24But Pharaoh’s daughter came up out of the city of David to her house which Solomon had built for her; then he built Millo.

^9:25And three times in a year, Solomon offered burnt offerings and peace offerings upon the altar that he built to Jehovah; and he burned incense upon the altar that was from Jehovah; so he finished the House.

^9:26And king Solomon made a fleet of ships in Ezion-geber, which is beside Eloth, on the shore of the Red sea, in the land of Edom. ^9:27And Hiram sent in the fleet his servants, shipmen that had knowledge of the sea, with the servants of Solomon. ^9:28And they came to Ophir. And they brought from there gold, four hundred and twenty talents; and they brought it to king Solomon.

^10:1And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the Name of Jehovah, she came to test him with hard questions. ^10:2And she came to Jerusalem with a very great train, with camels that carried spices, and a great quantity of gold, and precious stones. And when she came to Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in her heart. ^10:3And Solomon answered all her questions; there was nothing too difficult for the king, which he did not tell her.

^10:4And when the queen of Sheba had seen all Solomon’s wisdom, and the House that he had built, ^10:5and the food of his table, and the seating of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their apparel, and his cupbearers, and his ascent by which he went up to the House of Jehovah, there was no more spirit in her. ^10:6And she said to the king, “It was a true report that I heard in my own land of your acts and of your wisdom. ^10:7Nevertheless I did not believe the words, until I came, and my eyes had seen it; and, behold, the half was not told me. Your wisdom and prosperity exceeds the fame which I heard. ^10:8Happy are your men; happy are these your servants, who stand continually before you, and that hear your wisdom. ^10:9Blessed is Jehovah your God, who delighted in you, to set you on the throne of Israel. Because Jehovah loved Israel forever, therefore he made you king, to do judgment and justice.” ^10:10And she gave the king one hundred and twenty talents of gold, and of spices a very great quantity, and precious stones: there came no more such abundance of spices as these which the queen of Sheba gave to king Solomon. ^10:11And the fleet also of Hiram, that brought gold from Ophir, brought in from Ophir a great number of almug trees, and precious stones. ^10:12And the king made of the almug trees pillars for the House of Jehovah, and for the king’s house, harps also and psalteries for singers: there came no more such almug trees, nor were seen until this day. ^10:13And king Solomon gave to the queen of Sheba all her desire, whatsoever she asked, beside that which Solomon gave her of his royal bounty. So she turned and went to her own country, she and her servants.

^10:14Now the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year was six hundred and sixty-six talents of gold: ^10:15beside that which he had of the merchantmen, and of the traffic of the spice merchants, and of all the kings of Arabia, and of the governors of the country. ^10:16And king Solomon made two hundred large shields of beaten gold: six hundred shekels of gold went to one target. ^10:17And he made three hundred small shields of beaten gold: about four pounds of gold went to each shield; and the king put them in the house of the forest of Lebanon. ^10:18Moreover the king made a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with the best gold. ^10:19The throne had six steps, and the top of the throne was round behind; and there were armrests on either side on the place of the seat, and two lions stood beside the armrests. ^10:20And twelve lions stood there on the one side and on the other upon the six steps: there was not the like made in any kingdom. ^10:21And all of king Solomon’s drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon were of pure gold: none were of silver; it was accounted as nothing in the days of Solomon. ^10:22For the king had at sea a fleet of Tharshish with the fleet of Hiram: the fleet of Tharshish came once every three years, bringing gold, silver, ivory, apes, and peacocks. ^10:23So king Solomon exceeded all the kings of the earth for riches and for wisdom. ^10:24And all the earth sought to Solomon, to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart. ^10:25And they brought every man his present: vessels of silver, vessels of gold, garments, armor, spices, horses, and mules: a rate year by year. ^10:26And Solomon gathered together chariots and horsemen; and he had fourteen hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, whom he bestowed in the cities for chariots, and with the king at Jerusalem. ^10:27And the king made silver to be in Jerusalem as stones; and cedars made he to be as the sycamore trees that are in the vale, for abundance. ^10:28And Solomon had horses brought out of Egypt, and linen yarn; the king’s merchants received the linen yarn at a price. ^10:29And a chariot came up and went out of Egypt for six hundred shekels of silver, and a horse for one hundred and fifty; and so for all the kings of the Hittites, and for the kings of Syria, did they bring them out by their means.

Cada uno de ellos le abastecía por un mes en el año. ^4:8Y éstos son los nombres de ellos: El hijo de Hur en el monte de Efraín; ^4:9el hijo de Decar, en Macas, y en Saalbim, y en Bet-semes, y en Elón, y en Bet-hanan; ^4:10el hijo de Hesed, en Arubot; éste tenía también a Soco y toda la tierra de Hefer; ^4:11el hijo de Abinadab, en todos los términos de Dor; éste tenía por esposa a Tafat hija de Salomón; ^4:12Baana hijo de Ahilud, en Taanac y Meguido, y en toda Bet-seán (que está cerca de Zaretán, abajo de Jezreel, desde Bet-seán hasta Abel-mehola, y hasta el otro lado de Jocmeam); ^4:13el hijo de Geber, en Ramot de Galaad; éste tenía también las ciudades de Jair hijo de Manasés, las cuales estaban en Galaad (tenía también la provincia de Argob, que estaba en Basán, sesenta grandes ciudades con muro y cerraduras de bronce); ^4:14Ahinadab hijo de Iddo, en Mahanaim; ^4:15Ahimaas en Neftalí; éste tomó también por esposa a Basemat hija de Salomón. ^4:16Baana hijo de Husai, en Aser y en Alot; ^4:17Josafat hijo de Parúa, en Isacar; ^4:18Simeí hijo de Ela, en Benjamín; ^4:19Geber hijo de Uri, en la tierra de Galaad, la tierra de Sehón rey de los amorreos, y de Og rey de Basán; éste era el único gobernador en aquella tierra.

^4:20Judá e Israel eran muchos, como la arena que está junto al mar en multitud, comiendo, bebiendo y alegrándose. ^4:21Y Salomón señoreaba sobre todos los reinos desde el río hasta la tierra de los filisteos y hasta el término de Egipto; y traían presentes, y sirvieron a Salomón todos los días de su vida. ^4:22Y la provisión de Salomón era cada día treinta coros de flor de harina, y sesenta coros de harina, ^4:23diez bueyes engordados, y veinte bueyes de pasto, y cien ovejas; sin los ciervos, gacelas, corzos, y aves engordadas: ^4:24porque él señoreaba en toda la región que estaba de este lado del río, desde Tifsa hasta Gaza, sobre todos los reyes de este lado del río; y tuvo paz por todos lados en derredor suyo. ^4:25Y Judá e Israel vivían seguros, cada uno debajo de su parra y debajo de su higuera, desde Dan hasta Beerseba, todos los días de Salomón. ^4:26Tenía además de esto Salomón cuarenta mil caballos en sus caballerizas para sus carros, y doce mil jinetes. ^4:27Y estos gobernadores mantenían al rey Salomón, y a todos los que a la mesa del rey Salomón venían, cada uno un mes; nada les hacía falta. ^4:28Traían también cebada y paja para los caballos y para los dromedarios, al lugar donde estaban los oficiales, cada uno conforme al cargo que tenía.

^4:29Y Dios dio a Salomón sabiduría, y prudencia muy grande, y anchura de corazón como la arena que está a la orilla del mar. ^4:30Y la sabiduría de Salomón sobrepasaba a la de todos los orientales, y a toda la sabiduría de Egipto. ^4:31Y aun fue más sabio que todos los hombres; más que Etán ezraíta, y que Hemán, Calcol y Darda, hijos de Mahol; y se extendió su fama por todas las naciones de alrededor. ^4:32Y compuso tres mil proverbios; y sus cantos fueron mil cinco. ^4:33También disertó sobre los árboles, desde el cedro del Líbano hasta el hisopo que nace en la pared. Asimismo disertó sobre los animales, las aves, los reptiles, y los peces. ^4:34Y venían de todos los pueblos a oír la sabiduría de Salomón, y de todos los reyes de la tierra, donde había llegado la fama de su sabiduría.

^5:1Hiram rey de Tiro envió también sus siervos a Salomón, luego que oyó que lo habían ungido por rey en lugar de su padre: porque Hiram siempre había amado a David. ^5:2Entonces Salomón envió a decir a Hiram, ^5:3“Tú sabes como mi padre David no pudo edificar Casa al Nombre de Jehová su Dios, por las guerras que le rodearon, hasta que Jehová puso sus enemigos bajo las plantas de sus pies. ^5:4Ahora Jehová mi Dios me ha dado reposo por todas partes; de modo que ni hay adversarios ni mal que nos azote. ^5:5Yo por tanto he determinado ahora edificar Casa al Nombre de Jehová mi Dios, como Jehová lo habló a David mi padre, diciendo, ‘Tu hijo, que yo pondré en lugar tuyo en tu trono, él edificará Casa a mi Nombre’. ^5:6Manda, pues, ahora que me corten cedros del Líbano; y mis siervos estarán con los tuyos, y yo te daré por tus siervos el salario que tú dijeres: porque tú sabes bien que ninguno hay entre nosotros que sepa labrar la madera como los sidonios”. ^5:7Y aconteció que cuando Hiram oyó las palabras de Salomón, se gozó en gran manera, y dijo, “Bendito sea hoy Jehová, que dio hijo sabio a David sobre este pueblo tan grande”. ^5:8Y envió Hiram a decir a Salomón, “He oído lo que me mandaste a decir; yo haré todo lo que tú desees acerca de la madera de cedro, y la madera de abeto. ^5:9Mis siervos la llevarán desde el Líbano al mar; y yo la pondré en balsas por el mar hasta el lugar que tú me señales, y allí se desatará, y tú la tomarás; y tú cumplirás mi deseo al dar de comer a mi familia”.

^5:10Dio, pues, Hiram a Salomón madera de cedro y madera de abeto, toda la que quiso. ^5:11Y Salomón daba a Hiram veinte mil coros de trigo para el sustento de su familia, y veinte coros de aceite puro; esto daba Salomón a Hiram año tras año. ^5:12Y Jehová dio sabiduría a Salomón, como le había prometido; y hubo paz entre Hiram y Salomón, e hicieron alianza entre ambos. ^5:13Y el rey Salomón impuso leva a todo Israel, y la leva fue de treinta mil hombres. ^5:14Los cuales enviaba al Líbano de diez mil en diez mil, cada mes por su turno, viniendo así a estar un mes en el Líbano, y dos meses en sus casas; y Adoniram estaba a cargo de aquella leva. ^5:15Tenía también Salomón setenta mil que llevaban las cargas, y ochenta mil cortadores en el monte; ^5:16sin los principales oficiales de Salomón que estaban sobre la obra, tres mil trescientos, los cuales tenían cargo del pueblo que hacía la obra. ^5:17Y mandó el rey que trajesen grandes piedras, piedras costosas, para los cimientos de la Casa, y piedras labradas. ^5:18Y los albañiles de Salomón y los albañiles de Hiram, y los giblitas, cortaron y aparejaron la madera y la cantería para labrar la Casa.

¶Lo opuesto   Salomón construyó el Templo de Jehová y su propia casa (1 Reyes 6:1 - 7:51)

^6:1Y aconteció en el año cuatrocientos ochenta después que los hijos de Israel salieron de Egipto, en el cuarto año del principio del reino de Salomón sobre Israel, en el mes de Zif, que es el mes segundo, que él comenzó a edificar la Casa de Jehová. ^6:2La Casa que el rey Salomón edificó a Jehová, tuvo sesenta codos de largo y veinte de ancho, y treinta codos de alto. ^6:3Y el pórtico delante del Templo de la Casa, de veinte codos de largo, según la anchura de la Casa, y su ancho era de diez codos delante de la Casa. ^6:4E hizo a la Casa ventanas anchas por dentro, y estrechas por fuera. ^6:5Edificó también junto al muro de la Casa aposentos alrededor, contra las paredes de la Casa en derredor del templo y del oráculo; e hizo cámaras alrededor. ^6:6El aposento de abajo era de cinco codos de ancho, y el de en medio de seis codos de ancho, y el tercero de siete codos de ancho: porque por fuera había hecho ranuras a la Casa en derredor, para no trabar las vigas de las paredes de la Casa. ^6:7Y la Casa cuando se edificó, la fabricaron de piedras que traían ya acabadas; de tal manera que cuando la edificaban, ni martillos ni hachas se oyeron en la Casa, ni ningún otro instrumento de hierro. ^6:8La puerta del aposento de en medio estaba al lado derecho de la Casa; y se subía por una escalera de caracol al de en medio, y del aposento de en medio al tercero. ^6:9Edificó, pues, la Casa, y la terminó; y cubrió la Casa con artesonados de cedro. ^6:10Y edificó asimismo el aposento en derredor de toda la Casa, de altura de cinco codos, el cual se apoyaba en la Casa con maderas de cedro. ^6:11Y vino Palabra de Jehová a Salomón, diciendo, ^6:12“En cuanto a esta Casa que tú edificas; si anduvieres en mis Estatutos, e hicieres mis Decretos, y guardares todos mis Mandamientos andando en ellos, yo cumpliré contigo mi Palabra que hablé a David tu padre; ^6:13y habitaré en medio de los hijos de Israel, y no abandonaré a mi pueblo Israel”.

^6:14Así pues, Salomón edificó la Casa, y la terminó. ^6:15Y cubrió las paredes de la Casa con tablas de cedro, revistiéndola de madera por dentro, desde el suelo de la Casa hasta las vigas de la techumbre; cubrió también el piso con madera de abeto. ^6:16Asimismo hizo al final de la Casa un edificio de veinte codos, de tablas de cedro, desde el suelo hasta lo más alto; y edificó en la Casa un oráculo, que es el lugar santísimo. ^6:17Y la Casa, esto es, el templo de adelante, tenía cuarenta codos de largo. ^6:18Y la Casa estaba cubierta de cedro por dentro, y tenía entalladuras de calabazas silvestres y de botones de flores. Todo era cedro; ninguna piedra se veía. ^6:19Y adornó el lugar santísimo por dentro en medio de la Casa, para poner allí el arca del Pacto de Jehová. ^6:20Y el lugar santísimo estaba en la parte de adentro, el cual tenía veinte codos de largo, y otros veinte de ancho, y otros veinte de altura; y lo cubrió de oro purísimo; asimismo cubrió de oro el altar de cedro. ^6:21Luego Salomón cubrió de oro puro la Casa por dentro, y cerró la entrada del santuario interior con cadenas de oro, y lo cubrió de oro. ^6:22Y cubrió de oro toda la Casa, hasta que toda la Casa fue terminada; y asimismo cubrió de oro todo el altar que estaba frente al lugar santísimo. ^6:23Hizo también en el lugar santísimo dos querubines de madera de olivo, cada uno de diez codos de altura. ^6:24Una ala del querubín tenía cinco codos, y la otra ala del querubín otros cinco codos; así que había diez codos desde la punta de una ala hasta la punta de la otra. ^6:25Asimismo el otro querubín tenía diez codos: porque ambos querubines eran de un mismo tamaño y de una misma hechura. ^6:26La altura de un querubín era de diez codos, y asimismo la del otro. ^6:27Y puso estos querubines en la Casa de adentro; y los querubines tenían las alas extendidas, de modo que el ala de uno tocaba una pared, y el ala del otro querubín tocaba a la otra pared, y las otras dos alas se tocaban la una a la otra en la mitad de la Casa. ^6:28Y cubrió de oro los querubines. ^6:29Y esculpió todas las paredes de la Casa alrededor de diversas figuras, de querubines, de palmeras, y de botones de flores, por dentro y por fuera. ^6:30Y cubrió de oro el piso de la Casa, por dentro y por fuera. ^6:31Y a la entrada del oráculo hizo puertas de madera de olivo; y el umbral y los postes tenían cinco esquinas. ^6:32Las dos puertas eran de madera de olivo; y entalló en ellas figuras de querubines y de palmeras y de botones de flores, y las cubrió de oro; cubrió también de oro los querubines y las palmeras. ^6:33Igualmente hizo a la puerta del templo postes cuadrados de madera de olivo. ^6:34Y las dos puertas eran de madera de abeto. Las dos hojas de una puerta eran giratorias, y las dos hojas de la otra puerta también eran giratorias. ^6:35Y entalló en ellas querubines y palmeras y botones de flores, y las cubrió de oro ajustado a las entalladuras. ^6:36Y edificó el atrio interior de tres hileras de piedras labradas, y de una hilera de vigas de cedro. ^6:37En el cuarto año, en el mes de Zif, se echaron los cimientos de la Casa de Jehová; ^6:38y en el año undécimo, en el mes de Bul, que es el mes octavo, fue acabada la Casa en todas sus partes y conforme a todo su diseño. La edificó, pues, en siete años.

^7:1Después edificó Salomón su propia casa en trece años, y terminó toda su casa. ^7:2Asimismo edificó la casa del bosque del Líbano, la cual tenía cien codos de longitud, y cincuenta codos de anchura, y treinta codos de altura, sobre cuatro hileras de columnas de cedro, con vigas de cedro sobre las columnas. ^7:3Y estaba cubierta de tablas de cedro arriba sobre las vigas, que se apoyaban en cuarenta y cinco columnas; cada hilera tenía quince columnas. ^7:4Y había tres hileras de ventanas, una ventana contra la otra en tres hileras. ^7:5Y todas las puertas y postes eran cuadrados; y unas ventanas estaban frente a las otras en tres hileras. ^7:6También hizo un pórtico de columnas, que tenía cincuenta codos de largo, y treinta codos de ancho; y este pórtico estaba delante de aquellas otras, con sus columnas y maderos correspondientes. ^7:7Hizo asimismo el pórtico del trono en que había de juzgar, el pórtico del juicio, y lo vistió de cedro desde el suelo hasta el techo. ^7:8Y en la casa en que él moraba, había otro atrio dentro del pórtico, de obra semejante a ésta. Edificó también Salomón una casa semejante a aquel pórtico, para la hija de Faraón, la cual había tomado por esposa. ^7:9Todas aquellas obras fueron de piedras costosas, cortadas y aserradas con sierras según las medidas, así por dentro como por fuera, desde el cimiento hasta los remates, y asimismo por fuera hasta el gran atrio. ^7:10El cimiento era de piedras costosas, de piedras grandes, de piedras de diez codos, y de piedras de ocho codos. ^7:11De allí hacia arriba era también de piedras preciosas, labradas conforme a sus medidas, y madera de cedro. ^7:12Y en el gran atrio alrededor había tres hileras de piedras labradas, y una hilera de vigas de cedro; y así el atrio interior de la Casa de Jehová, y el atrio de la casa.

^7:13Y envió el rey Salomón, e hizo venir de Tiro a Hiram, hijo de una viuda de la tribu de Neftalí, y su padre era de Tiro, y trabajaba en bronce, lleno de sabiduría y de inteligencia y saber en toda obra de bronce. Éste, pues, vino al rey Salomón, e hizo toda su obra. ^7:15Y vació dos columnas de bronce, la altura de cada una era de dieciocho codos; y rodeaba a una y a otra columna un cordón de doce codos. ^7:16Hizo también dos capiteles de bronce fundido, para que fuesen puestos sobre las cabezas de las columnas; la altura de un capitel era de cinco codos, y la del otro capitel de cinco codos. ^7:17Había trenzas a manera de red, y unos cordones a manera de cadenas, para los capiteles que estaban sobre las cabezas de las columnas; siete para cada capitel. ^7:18E hizo también dos hileras de granadas alrededor de la red, para cubrir los capiteles que estaban sobre las cabezas de las columnas con las granadas; y de la misma forma hizo en el otro capitel. ^7:19Los capiteles que estaban sobre las columnas en el pórtico, tenían forma de lirios, y eran de cuatro codos. ^7:20Tenían también los capiteles de sobre las dos columnas, doscientas granadas en dos hileras alrededor en cada capitel, encima de la parte abultada del capitel, el cual estaba rodeado por la red. ^7:21Estas columnas erigió en el pórtico del templo; y levantó la columna de la mano derecha, y le puso por nombre Jaquín; y levantó la columna de la mano izquierda, y llamó su nombre Boaz. ^7:22Y puso en las cabezas de las columnas tallado en forma de lirios; y así se acabó la obra de las columnas. ^7:23Hizo asimismo un mar de fundición, de diez codos de un lado al otro, perfectamente redondo; su altura era de cinco codos, y lo ceñía alrededor un cordón de treinta codos. ^7:24Y rodeaban aquel mar por debajo de su borde en derredor unas bolas como calabazas, diez en cada codo, que ceñían el mar alrededor en dos hileras, las cuales habían sido fundidas cuando el mar fue fundido. ^7:25Y estaba asentado sobre doce bueyes; tres miraban al norte, y tres miraban al poniente, y tres miraban al sur, y tres miraban al oriente; sobre éstos se apoyaba el mar, y las traseras de ellos estaban hacia la parte de adentro. ^7:26El grueso del mar era de un palmo menor, y su borde era labrado como el borde de un cáliz, o de flor de lirio; y contenía dos mil batos. ^7:27Hizo también diez bases de bronce, siendo la longitud de cada base de cuatro codos, y la anchura de cuatro codos, y de tres codos la altura. ^7:28La obra de las bases era de esta manera: tenían unos tableros, los cuales estaban entre molduras; ^7:29y sobre aquellos tableros que estaban entre molduras, había figuras de leones, de bueyes y de querubines; y sobre las molduras de la base, así encima como debajo de los leones y de los bueyes, había unas añadiduras de bajo relieve. ^7:30Cada base tenía cuatro ruedas de bronce con ejes de bronce; y en sus cuatro esquinas tenían soportes de fundición, soportes que quedaban debajo de la fuente, al lado de cada una de las añadiduras. ^7:31Y la boca de la fuente entraba un codo en el remate que salía para arriba de la base; y era su boca redonda, de la hechura del mismo remate, y éste era de codo y medio. Había también sobre la boca entalladuras con sus tableros, los cuales eran cuadrados, no redondos. ^7:32Las cuatro ruedas estaban debajo de los tableros, y los ejes de las ruedas nacían en la misma base. La altura de cada rueda era de un codo y medio. ^7:33Y la hechura de las ruedas era como la hechura de las ruedas de un carro; sus ejes, sus rayos, y sus cubos, y sus cinchos, todo era de fundición. ^7:34Asimismo los cuatro soportes a las cuatro esquinas de cada base; y los soportes eran de la misma base. ^7:35Y en lo alto de la base había medio codo de altura redondo por todas partes; y encima de la base sus molduras y tableros, los cuales salían de ella misma. ^7:36E hizo en las tablas de las molduras, y en los tableros, entalladuras de querubines, y de leones, y de palmeras, con proporción en el espacio de cada una, y alrededor otros adornos. ^7:37De esta forma hizo diez bases fundidas de una misma manera, de una misma medida, y de una misma entalladura. ^7:38Hizo también diez fuentes de bronce; cada fuente contenía cuarenta batos, y cada una era de cuatro codos; y asentó una fuente sobre cada una de las diez bases. ^7:39Y puso las cinco bases a la mano derecha de la Casa, y las otras cinco a la mano izquierda. Y asentó el mar al lado derecho de la Casa, al oriente, hacia el sur. ^7:40Asimismo hizo Hiram fuentes, y tenazas, y cuencos. Así terminó Hiram toda la obra que hizo a Salomón para la Casa de Jehová. ^7:41Las dos columnas, y los dos tazones redondos de los capiteles que estaban en lo alto de las dos columnas; y dos redes que cubrían los dos tazones redondos de los capiteles que estaban sobre la cabeza de las columnas; ^7:42y cuatrocientas granadas para las dos redes, dos hileras de granadas en cada red, para cubrir los dos tazones redondos que estaban sobre las cabezas de las columnas; ^7:43y las diez bases, y las diez fuentes sobre las bases; ^7:44y un mar, y doce bueyes debajo del mar; ^7:45y calderos, paletas, cuencos, y todos los vasos que Hiram hizo al rey Salomón para la Casa de Jehová eran de bronce bruñido. ^7:46Todo lo hizo fundir el rey en la llanura del Jordán, en tierra arcillosa, entre Sucot y Zaretán. ^7:47Y Salomón no inquirió el peso del bronce de todos los utensilios, por la grande cantidad de ellos. ^7:48E hizo Salomón todos los utensilios que pertenecían a la Casa de Jehová; un altar de oro, y una mesa sobre la cual estaban los panes de la proposición, también de oro; ^7:49y cinco candeleros de oro purísimo a la mano derecha, y otros cinco a la izquierda, delante del oráculo; con las flores, las lámparas y las tenazas de oro. ^7:50Asimismo los cántaros, despabiladeras, tazas, cucharillas, e incensarios, de oro purísimo; también de oro los quiciales de las puertas de la Casa de adentro, del lugar santísimo, y los de las puertas del Templo. ^7:51Así fue terminada toda la obra que dispuso hacer el rey Salomón para la Casa de Jehová.

Y metió Salomón lo que David su padre había dedicado, plata, oro y vasos, y lo puso todo en las tesorerías de la Casa de Jehová.

¶El complemento   Salomón trajo a todo Israel a Jerusalén para dedicar el Templo (1 Reyes 8:1 - 21)

^8:1Entonces Salomón reunió a los ancianos de Israel, y a todas las cabezas de las tribus, y a los príncipes de las familias de los hijos de Israel ante el rey Salomón en Jerusalén, para traer el Arca del Pacto de Jehová de la ciudad de David, que es Sión. ^8:2Y se congregaron ante el rey Salomón todos los varones de Israel en el mes de Etanim, que es el mes séptimo, en el día de la fiesta solemne. ^8:3Y vinieron todos los ancianos de Israel, y los sacerdotes tomaron el arca. ^8:4Y llevaron el Arca de Jehová, y el Tabernáculo del testimonio, y todos los vasos sagrados que estaban en el Tabernáculo; los cuales llevaban los sacerdotes y levitas. ^8:5Y el rey Salomón, y toda la congregación de Israel que se había reunido con él, estaban con él delante del arca, sacrificando ovejas y bueyes, que por la multitud no se podían contar ni numerar.

^8:6Y los sacerdotes metieron el Arca del Pacto de Jehová en su lugar, en el oráculo de la Casa, en el lugar santísimo, debajo de las alas de los querubines: ^8:7porque los querubines tenían extendidas las alas sobre el lugar del arca, y así cubrían los querubines el arca y sus varas por encima. ^8:8E hicieron salir las varas; de modo que las cabezas de las varas se dejaban ver desde el lugar santo delante del oráculo, pero no se veían desde afuera; y así se quedaron hasta hoy. ^8:9Ninguna cosa había en el arca, salvo las dos tablas de piedra que allí había puesto Moisés en Horeb, donde Jehová hizo Pacto con los hijos de Israel, cuando salieron de la tierra de Egipto.

^8:10Y aconteció que cuando los sacerdotes salieron del santuario, la nube llenó la Casa de Jehová. ^8:11Y los sacerdotes no pudieron permanecer para ministrar por causa de la nube: porque la gloria de Jehová había llenado la Casa de Jehová. Entonces dijo Salomón, “Jehová ha dicho que él habitaría en la densa oscuridad. Yo he edificado Casa por morada para ti, morada en que tú habites para siempre”.

^8:12Entonces dijo Salomón, “Jehová ha dicho que él habitaría en la densa oscuridad. ^8:13Yo he edificado Casa por morada para ti, morada en que tú habites para siempre”.

^8:14Y volviendo el rey su rostro, bendijo a toda la congregación de Israel (y toda la congregación de Israel estaba en pie). ^8:15Y dijo, “Bendito sea Jehová Dios de Israel, que con su boca habló a David mi padre, y con su mano lo ha cumplido, diciendo, ^8:16‘Desde el día que saqué mi pueblo Israel de Egipto, no he escogido ciudad de todas las tribus de Israel para edificar Casa en la cual estuviese mi Nombre, aunque escogí a David para que presidiese en mi pueblo Israel’. ^8:17Y David mi padre tuvo en su corazón edificar Casa al Nombre de Jehová Dios de Israel. ^8:18Pero Jehová dijo a David mi padre, ‘En cuanto al haber tenido en tu corazón edificar Casa a mi Nombre, bien has hecho en tener esto en tu corazón. ^8:19Pero tú no edificarás la Casa, sino tu hijo que saldrá de tus lomos, él edificará Casa a mi Nombre’. ^8:20Y Jehová ha cumplido su Palabra que había dicho: porque yo me he levantado en lugar de David mi padre, y me he sentado en el trono de Israel, como Jehová había dicho, y he edificado la Casa al Nombre de Jehová Dios de Israel. ^8:21Y he puesto en ella lugar para el arca, en la cual está el Pacto de Jehová, que él hizo con nuestros padres cuando los sacó de la tierra de Egipto”.

¶El complemento   Salomón oró para que Dios escuchara y contestara las oraciones de todos los quien vendría al templo a adorarle (1 Reyes 8:22 - 63)

^8:22Se puso luego Salomón delante del altar de Jehová, en presencia de toda la congregación de Israel, y extendiendo sus manos al Cielo, ^8:23dijo, “Jehová Dios de Israel, no hay Dios como tú, ni arriba en el Cielo ni abajo en la tierra, que guardas el Pacto y la misericordia a tus siervos, los que andan delante de ti de todo su corazón; ^8:24que has cumplido a tu siervo David mi padre lo que le dijiste; lo dijiste con tu boca, y con tu mano lo has cumplido, como sucede este día. ^8:25Ahora pues, Jehová Dios de Israel, cumple a tu siervo David mi padre lo que le prometiste, diciendo, ‘No faltará varón de ti delante de mí, que se siente en el trono de Israel, con tal que tus hijos guarden su camino, que anden delante de mí como tú delante de mí has andado’.

^8:26“Ahora pues, oh Dios de Israel, cúmplase tu Palabra que dijiste a tu siervo David mi padre. ^8:27Pero ¿es verdad que Dios ha de morar sobre la tierra? He aquí que el cielo, y el Cielo de los cielos, no te pueden contener; ¿cuánto menos esta Casa que yo he edificado? ^8:28Con todo, tú atiende a la oración de tu siervo, y a su plegaria, oh Jehová Dios mío, oye el clamor y la oración que tu siervo hace hoy delante de ti, ^8:29que estén tus ojos abiertos de noche y de día sobre esta Casa, sobre este lugar del cual has dicho, ‘Mi Nombre estará allí’, y que oigas la oración que tu siervo haga hacia este lugar. ^8:30Escucha, pues, la oración de tu siervo, y de tu pueblo Israel; cuando oren hacia este lugar, escucha tú desde el Cielo, lugar de tu habitación; escucha tú y perdona. ^8:31Si alguno pecare contra su prójimo, y le tomaren juramento haciéndole jurar, y viniere el juramento delante de tu altar en esta Casa; ^8:32escucha tú desde el Cielo y actúa; y juzga a tus siervos, condenando al impío, tornando su proceder sobre su cabeza, y justificando al justo para darle conforme a su justicia. ^8:33Si tu pueblo Israel fuere derrotado delante de sus enemigos, por haber pecado contra ti, y a ti se volvieren, y confesaren tu Nombre, y oraren, y te rogaren y suplicaren en esta Casa; ^8:34escucha tú en el Cielo, y perdona el pecado de tu pueblo Israel, y hazles volver a la tierra que diste a sus padres. ^8:35Cuando el cielo se cerrare, y no lloviere, por haber ellos pecado contra ti, si oraren hacia este lugar, y confesaren tu Nombre, y se volvieren del pecado, cuando los hubieres afligido; ^8:36escucha tú en el Cielo, y perdona el pecado de tus siervos y de tu pueblo Israel, enseñándoles el buen camino en que deben andar; y da lluvias sobre tu tierra, la cual diste a tu pueblo por heredad. ^8:37Si en la tierra hubiere hambre, pestilencia, tizoncillo, añublo, langosta, o pulgón; si sus enemigos los tuvieren sitiados en la tierra de sus ciudades; cualquier plaga o enfermedad que sea; ^8:38toda oración y toda súplica que hiciere cualquier hombre, o todo tu pueblo Israel, cuando cualquiera sintiere la plaga de su corazón, y extendiere sus manos hacia esta Casa; ^8:39escucha tú en el Cielo, en la habitación de tu morada, y perdona, y actúa, y da a cada uno conforme a sus caminos, cuyo corazón tú conoces; (porque sólo tú conoces el corazón de todos los hijos de los hombres); ^8:40para que te teman todos los días que vivieren sobre la faz de la tierra que tú diste a nuestros padres.

^8:41“Asimismo el extranjero, que no es de tu pueblo Israel, que viniere de lejanas tierras a causa de tu Nombre ^8:42(porque oirán de tu grande Nombre, y de tu mano fuerte, y de tu brazo extendido), y viniere a orar a esta Casa; ^8:43escucha tú en el Cielo, en la habitación de tu morada, y haz conforme a todo aquello por lo cual el extranjero clamare a ti; para que todos los pueblos de la tierra conozcan tu Nombre, y te teman, como tu pueblo Israel, y entiendan que tu Nombre es invocado sobre esta Casa que yo edifiqué. ^8:44Si tu pueblo saliere en batalla contra sus enemigos por el camino que tú los enviares, y oraren a Jehová hacia la ciudad que tú elegiste, y hacia la Casa que yo edifiqué a tu Nombre, ^8:45escucha tú en el Cielo su oración y su súplica, y ampara su causa. ^8:46Si hubieren pecado contra ti (porque no hay hombre que no peque), y tú estuvieres airado contra ellos, y los entregares delante del enemigo, para que los cautiven y lleven a tierra enemiga, sea lejos o cerca, ^8:47y ellos volvieren en sí en la tierra donde fueren cautivos; si se convirtieren, y oraren a ti en la tierra de los que los cautivaron, y dijeren, ‘Pecamos, hemos hecho lo malo, hemos cometido impiedad’; ^8:48y si se convirtieren a ti de todo su corazón y de toda su alma, en la tierra de sus enemigos que los hubieren llevado cautivos, y oraren a ti hacia su tierra, que tú diste a sus padres, hacia la ciudad que tú elegiste y la Casa que yo he edificado a tu Nombre; ^8:49escucha tú en el Cielo, en el lugar de tu morada, su oración y su súplica, y ampara su causa. ^8:50Y perdona a tu pueblo que ha pecado contra ti, y todas sus transgresiones que han cometido contra ti; y haz que tengan de ellos misericordia los que los hubieren llevado cautivos: ^8:51porque ellos son tu pueblo y tu heredad, que tú sacaste de Egipto, de en medio del horno de hierro. ^8:52Estén abiertos tus ojos a la oración de tu siervo, y a la plegaria de tu pueblo Israel, para oírlos en todo aquello por lo que te invocaren: ^8:53porque tú los apartaste para ti por tu heredad de todos los pueblos de la tierra, como lo dijiste por mano de Moisés tu siervo, cuando sacaste a nuestros padres de Egipto, oh Señor Jehová”.

^8:54Y fue que cuando Salomón acabó de hacer toda esta oración y súplica a Jehová, se levantó de estar de rodillas delante del altar de Jehová con sus manos extendidas al Cielo; ^8:55y puesto en pie, bendijo a toda la congregación de Israel, diciendo en voz alta, ^8:56“¡Bendito sea Jehová, que ha dado reposo a su pueblo Israel, conforme a todo lo que él había dicho; ninguna palabra de todas sus promesas que expresó por Moisés su siervo, ha faltado! ^8:57¡Jehová nuestro Dios, sea con nosotros como lo fue con nuestros padres; y no nos desampare ni nos deje; ^8:58y que incline nuestro corazón hacia él, para que andemos en todos sus caminos, y guardemos sus Mandamientos y sus Estatutos y sus Derechos, los cuales mandó a nuestros padres! ^8:59¡Y que estas mis palabras con que he orado delante de Jehová estén cerca de Jehová nuestro Dios de día y de noche, para que él proteja la causa de su siervo, y de su pueblo Israel, cada cosa en su tiempo; ^8:60para que todos los pueblos de la tierra sepan que Jehová es Dios, y que no hay otro! ^8:61¡Sea, pues, perfecto vuestro corazón para con Jehová nuestro Dios, andando en sus Estatutos, y guardando sus Mandamientos, como el día de hoy!”.

^8:62Entonces el rey, y todo Israel con él, ofrecieron sacrificios delante de Jehová. ^8:63Y ofreció Salomón sacrificios de paz, los cuales ofreció a Jehová; veintidós mil bueyes, y ciento veinte mil ovejas. Así dedicaron el rey y todos los hijos de Israel la Casa de Jehová.

¶Único   Jehová aprobó el Templo como su lugar de residencia, pero solo si Salomón y sus hijos continuaron siguiéndole (1 Reyes 8:64 - 9:9)

^8:64Aquel mismo día santificó el rey el medio del atrio que estaba delante de la Casa de Jehová: porque ofreció allí los holocaustos, y los presentes, y las grosuras de las ofrendas de paz; por cuanto el altar de bronce que estaba delante de Jehová era demasiado pequeño, y no cabían en él los holocaustos, las ofrendas y las grosuras de los sacrificios de paz.

^8:65En aquel tiempo Salomón hizo fiesta, y con él todo Israel, una grande congregación, desde donde entran en Hamat hasta el río de Egipto, delante de Jehová nuestro Dios, por siete días y otros siete días, esto es, por catorce días. ^8:66Y el octavo día despidió al pueblo; y ellos bendiciendo al rey, se fueron a sus tiendas alegres y gozosos de corazón por todos los beneficios que Jehová había hecho a David su siervo, y a su pueblo Israel.

^9:1Y sucedió que cuando Salomón hubo acabado la obra de la Casa de Jehová, y la casa real, y todo lo que Salomón quiso hacer, ^9:2Jehová apareció a Salomón la segunda vez, como le había aparecido en Gabaón. ^9:3Y le dijo Jehová, “Yo he oído tu oración y tu ruego, que has hecho en mi presencia. Yo he santificado esta Casa que tú has edificado, para poner mi Nombre en ella para siempre; y en ella estarán mis ojos y mi corazón todos los días. ^9:4Y si tú anduvieres delante de mí, como anduvo David tu padre, en integridad de corazón y en equidad, haciendo todas las cosas que yo te he mandado, y guardando mis Estatutos y mis Decretos, ^9:5yo afirmaré el trono de tu reino sobre Israel para siempre, como hablé a David tu padre, diciendo, ‘No faltará de ti varón en el trono de Israel’.

^9:6“Pero si obstinadamente os apartareis de mí ustedes y vuestros hijos, y no guardareis mis Mandamientos y mis Estatutos que yo he puesto delante de ustedes, sino que fuereis y sirviereis a dioses ajenos, y los adorareis, ^9:7yo cortaré a Israel de sobre la faz de la tierra que les he entregado; y esta Casa que he santificado a mi Nombre, yo la echaré de delante de mí, e Israel será por proverbio y refrán a todos los pueblos.

^9:8“Y esta Casa, que está alta, cualquiera que pasare por ella se asombrará, y silbará, y dirá, ‘¿Por qué ha hecho así Jehová a esta tierra, y a esta Casa?’ ^9:9Y dirán, ‘Por cuanto dejaron a Jehová su Dios, que había sacado a sus padres de tierra de Egipto, y echaron mano a dioses ajenos, y los adoraron, y los sirvieron; por eso ha traído Jehová sobre ellos todo este mal’”.

§Único   Conclusión: El Reino de Salomón fue la Edad de Oro de Israel (1 Reyes 9:10 - 10:29)

¶El complemento   Las políticas de Salomón hacia los gentiles que viven dentro de Israel (1 Reyes 9:10 - 24)

^9:10Y aconteció al cabo de veinte años, cuando Salomón había edificado las dos casas, la Casa de Jehová y la casa real ^9:11(para las cuales Hiram rey de Tiro, había traído a Salomón madera de cedro y de abeto, y cuanto oro él quiso), que el rey Salomón dio a Hiram veinte ciudades en tierra de Galilea. ^9:12Y salió Hiram de Tiro para ver las ciudades que Salomón le había dado, y no le agradaron. ^9:13Y dijo, “¿Qué ciudades son estas que me has dado, hermano?”. Y les puso por nombre, la tierra de Cabul, hasta hoy.

^9:14Y había Hiram enviado al rey ciento veinte talentos de oro.

^9:15Y ésta es la razón de la leva que el rey Salomón impuso para edificar la Casa de Jehová, y su casa, y a Milo, y el muro de Jerusalén, y a Hazor, y Meguido, y Gezer. ^9:16Faraón el rey de Egipto había subido y tomado a Gezer, y la quemó, y dio muerte a los cananeos que habitaban la ciudad, y la dio en don a su hija, la esposa de Salomón. ^9:17Restauró, pues, Salomón a Gezer, y a la baja Bet-horón, ^9:18y a Baalat, y a Tadmor en tierra del desierto. ^9:19Asimismo todas las ciudades donde Salomón tenía municiones, y las ciudades de los carros, y las ciudades de la gente de a caballo, y todo lo que Salomón deseó edificar en Jerusalén, en el Líbano, y en toda la tierra de su señorío.

^9:20A todos los pueblos que quedaron de los amorreos, heteos, ferezeos, heveos, jebuseos, que no fueron de los hijos de Israel; ^9:21a sus hijos que quedaron en la tierra después de ellos, que los hijos de Israel no pudieron exterminar, hizo Salomón que sirviesen con tributo hasta hoy. ^9:22Pero a ninguno de los hijos de Israel impuso Salomón servicio, sino que eran hombres de guerra, o sus criados, o sus príncipes, o sus capitanes, o comandantes de sus carros, o su gente de a caballo. ^9:23Éstos eran los jefes de los oficiales que estaban al frente de la obra de Salomón, quinientos cincuenta, los cuales supervisaban al pueblo que trabajaba en aquella obra.

^9:24Y subió la hija de Faraón de la ciudad de David a su casa que Salomón le había edificado; entonces edificó él a Milo.

¶El complemento   Las políticas de Salomón hacia los gentiles fuera de Israel (1 Reyes 9:25 - 10:29)

^9:25Y ofrecía Salomón tres veces cada año holocaustos y sacrificios de paz sobre el altar que él edificó a Jehová, y quemaba incienso sobre el altar que estaba delante de Jehová. Así terminó la Casa.

^9:26Hizo también el rey Salomón navíos en Ezión-geber, que está junto a Elot en la ribera del Mar Rojo, en la tierra de Edom. ^9:27Y envió Hiram en ellos a sus siervos, marineros y diestros en el mar, con los siervos de Salomón; ^9:28los cuales fueron a Ofir, y tomaron de allí oro, cuatrocientos veinte talentos, y lo trajeron al rey Salomón.

^10:1Y cuando la reina de Seba oyó la fama de Salomón, debido al Nombre de Jehová, vino a probarle con preguntas difíciles. ^10:2Y vino a Jerusalén con un séquito muy grande, con camellos cargados de especias, y oro en gran abundancia, y piedras preciosas; y cuando vino a Salomón, ella le comunicó todo lo que había en su corazón. ^10:3Y Salomón respondió a todas sus preguntas; ninguna cosa se le escondió al rey, que no le pudiese responder.

^10:4Y cuando la reina de Seba vio toda la sabiduría de Salomón, y la casa que había edificado, ^10:5asimismo la comida de su mesa, el asiento de sus siervos, el estado y la vestimenta de los que le servían, sus maestresalas, y sus holocaustos que sacrificaba en la Casa de Jehová, se quedó sin aliento. ^10:6Y dijo al rey, “Verdad es lo que oí en mi tierra de tus hechos y de tu sabiduría; ^10:7pero yo no lo creía, hasta que he venido, y mis ojos han visto, y he aquí, que ni la mitad me había sido dicha; es mayor tu sabiduría y bien que la fama que yo había oído. ^10:8Bienaventurados tus varones, dichosos estos tus siervos, que están continuamente delante de ti, y oyen tu sabiduría. ^10:9Jehová tu Dios sea bendito, que se agradó de ti para ponerte en el trono de Israel. Porque Jehová ha amado siempre a Israel, por lo tanto te ha puesto por rey, para que hagas derecho y justicia”. ^10:10Y dio ella al rey ciento veinte talentos de oro, y gran cantidad de especiería, y piedras preciosas; nunca vino tan gran cantidad de especias, como la reina de Seba dio al rey Salomón. ^10:11La flota de Hiram que había traído el oro de Ofir, traía también de Ofir mucha madera de sándalo, y piedras preciosas. ^10:12Y de la madera de sándalo hizo el rey balaustres para la Casa de Jehová, y para las casas reales, arpas también y salterios para los cantores; nunca vino semejante madera de sándalo, ni se ha visto hasta hoy. ^10:13Y el rey Salomón dio a la reina de Seba todo lo que ella quiso, y todo lo que pidió, además de lo que Salomón le dio como de mano del rey. Y ella se volvió, y se fue a su tierra con sus criados.

^10:14El peso del oro que Salomón recibía en un año, era seiscientos sesenta y seis talentos de oro; ^10:15además de lo de los mercaderes, y lo de la contratación de especias, y lo de todos los reyes de Arabia y de los principales de la tierra. ^10:16Hizo también el rey Salomón doscientos escudos de oro extendido; seiscientos siclos de oro gastó en cada escudo. ^10:17Asimismo trescientos escudos de oro extendido, en cada uno de los cuales gastó tres libras de oro; y el rey los puso en la casa del bosque del Líbano. ^10:18Hizo también el rey un gran trono de marfil, el cual cubrió de oro purísimo. ^10:19El trono tuvo seis gradas; y lo alto de él era redondo por el respaldo; y tenía apoyos en ambos lados cerca del asiento, junto a los cuales estaban colocados dos leones. ^10:20Estaban también doce leones puestos allí sobre las seis gradas, de un lado y de otro; en ningún otro reino se había hecho trono semejante. ^10:21Y todos los vasos de beber del rey Salomón eran de oro, y asimismo toda la vajilla de la casa del bosque del Líbano era de oro puro; ninguno era de plata; en tiempo de Salomón la plata no era de estima: ^10:22porque el rey tenía en el mar la flota de Tarsis, con la flota de Hiram. Una vez en cada tres años venía la flota de Tarsis, y traía oro, plata, marfil, simios y pavos reales. ^10:23Así excedía el rey Salomón a todos los reyes de la tierra en riquezas y en sabiduría. ^10:24Toda la tierra procuraba ver el rostro de Salomón, para oír su sabiduría, la cual Dios había puesto en su corazón. ^10:25Y todos le llevaban cada año sus presentes; vasos de oro, vasos de plata, vestiduras, armas, aromas, caballos y mulos. ^10:26Y juntó Salomón carros y gente de a caballo; y tenía mil cuatrocientos carros, y doce mil jinetes, los cuales puso en las ciudades de los carros, y con el rey en Jerusalén. ^10:27E hizo el rey que en Jerusalén la plata llegara a ser como las piedras, y los cedros como los sicómoros que se dan en abundancia en los valles. ^10:28Y traían de Egipto caballos y lienzos a Salomón: porque la compañía de los mercaderes del rey compraba caballos y lienzos. ^10:29Y venía y salía de Egipto, el carro por seiscientos siclos de plata, y el caballo por ciento cincuenta; y así los sacaban por mano de ellos, todos los reyes de los heteos, y de Siria.
