The Pre-exile Temple, Chapter 1.3: Jehovah established David as the King of the Kingdom of Zion

^14:3And David took more wives at Jerusalem; and David begot more sons and daughters.

^14:4Now these are the names of his children which he had in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon, ^14:5Ibhar, Elishua, Elpalet, ^14:6Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia, ^14:7Elishama, Beeliada, and Eliphalet.

¶Opposite   David attacked and defeated the Philistines in battle (1 Chronicles 14:8 - 17)

^14:8And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David. And David heard of it, and went out against them. ^14:9And the Philistines came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim. ^14:10And David inquired of God, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? And will you deliver them into my hand?” And Jehovah said to him, “Go up: for I will deliver them into your hand.” ^14:11So they came up to Baal-perazim; and David smote them there. Then David said, “God has broken in upon my enemies by my hand like the breaking forth of water”; therefore they called the name of that place Baal-perazim.

^14:12And when they had left their gods there, David gave a command, and they were burned with fire.

^14:13And the Philistines yet again spread themselves abroad in the valley. ^14:14Therefore David inquired again of God; and God said to him, “Do not go up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees. ^14:15And it shall be, when you shall hear a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you shall go out to battle: for God has gone forth before you to smite the army of the Philistines.”

^14:16Therefore David did as God commanded him, and they smote the army of the Philistines from Gibeon even as far as Gazer.

^14:17And the fame of David went out into all lands; and Jehovah brought the fear of him upon all nations.

^15:1And David made himself houses in the city of David, and prepared a place for the Ark of God, and pitched a tent for it. ^15:2Then David said, “None ought to carry the Ark of God but the Levites: for them has Jehovah chosen to carry the Ark of God, and to minister to him forever.” ^15:3And David gathered all Israel together to Jerusalem, to bring up the Ark of Jehovah to his place, which he had prepared for it. ^15:4And David assembled the children of Aaron, and the Levites: ^15:5of the sons of Kohath: Uriel the chief, and his brethren one hundred and twenty; ^15:6of the sons of Merari: Asaiah the chief, and his brethren two hundred and twenty; ^15:7of the sons of Gershom: Joel the chief, and his brethren one hundred and thirty; ^15:8of the sons of Elizaphan: Shemaiah the chief, and his brethren two hundred; ^15:9of the sons of Hebron: Eliel the chief, and his brethren eighty; ^15:10of the sons of Uzziel: Amminadab the chief, and his brethren one hundred and twelve. ^15:11And David called for Zadok and Abiathar the priests, and for the Levites: for Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel, and Amminadab; ^15:12and he said to them, “You are the chief of the fathers of the Levites: sanctify yourselves, both you and your brethren, that you may bring up the Ark of Jehovah God of Israel, to the place that I have prepared for it: ^15:13for because you did not do this at the first, Jehovah our God made a breach upon us, because we did not seek him after the due order.” ^15:14So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the Ark of Jehovah God of Israel. ^15:15And the children of the Levites carried the Ark of God upon their shoulders with the poles on it, as Moses commanded according to the Word of Jehovah. ^15:16And David spoke to the chief of the Levites to appoint their brethren to be the singers with instruments of music, psalteries and harps and cymbals, sounding, by lifting up the voice with joy. ^15:17So the Levites appointed Heman the son of Joel; and of his brethren, Asaph the son of Berechiah; and of the sons of Merari their brethren, Ethan the son of Kushaiah; ^15:18and with them their brethren of the second degree: Zechariah, Ben, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Elipheleh, Mikneiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel, who were the gatekeepers. ^15:19So the singers, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan, were appointed to sound with cymbals of bronze; ^15:20and Zechariah, Aziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah, and Benaiah, with psalteries on Soprano; ^15:21and Mattithiah, Elipheleh, Mikneiah, Obed-edom, Jeiel, and Azaziah, with harps on the Bass to lead in the music. ^15:22And Chenaniah, chief of the Levites, was appointed for singing. He instructed about singing, because he was skillful. ^15:23And Berechiah and Elkanah were doorkeepers for the Ark. ^15:24And Shebaniah, Jehoshaphat, Nethaneel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah, and Eliezer, the priests, blew with the trumpets before the Ark of God; and Obed-edom and Jehiah were doorkeepers for the Ark. ^15:25So David, the elders of Israel, and the captains over thousands, went to bring up the Ark of the Covenant of Jehovah out of the house of Obed-edom with joy. ^15:26And it came to pass, when God helped the Levites that carried the Ark of the Covenant of Jehovah, that they offered seven bulls and seven rams. ^15:27And David was clothed with a robe of fine linen, and also all the Levites that carried the Ark, and the singers, and Chenaniah the master of the song with the singers; David also had upon himself an ephod of linen. ^15:28Thus all Israel brought up the Ark of the Covenant of Jehovah with shouting, and with sound of the cornet, and with trumpets, and with cymbals, making a noise with psalteries and harps.

^15:29And it came to pass, as the Ark of the Covenant of Jehovah came to the city of David, that Michal the daughter of Saul, looking out at a window, saw king David dancing and playing; and she despised him in her heart.

^16:1So they brought the Ark of God, and set it in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it; and they offered burnt sacrifices and peace offerings before God. ^16:2And when David had made an end of offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the Name of Jehovah. ^16:3And he dealt to everyone of Israel, both man and woman, to everyone a loaf of bread, a good piece of flesh, and a cake of raisins. ^16:4And he appointed certain of the Levites to minister before the Ark of Jehovah, and to record, and to thank and praise Jehovah God of Israel: ^16:5Asaph the chief, and next to him Zechariah, Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, and Obed-edom; and Jeiel praised with psalteries and with harps, but Asaph made a sound with cymbals; ^16:6also Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests sounded with trumpets continually before the Ark of the Covenant of God.

^16:7Then on that day David first delivered this psalm to thank Jehovah into the hand of Asaph and his brethren: ^16:8“Give thanks to Jehovah; call upon his Name; make known his deeds among the people. ^16:9Sing to him; sing psalms to him, and talk of all his wondrous works. ^16:10Glory in his holy Name; let the heart of them rejoice that seek Jehovah. ^16:11Seek Jehovah and his strength; seek his face continually. ^16:12Remember his marvelous works that he has done: his wonders, and the Judgments of his mouth, ^16:13O you seed of Israel his servant, you children of Jacob, his chosen ones. ^16:14He is Jehovah our God; his Judgments are in all the earth. ^16:15Be mindful always of his Covenant, the Word which he commanded to a thousand generations: ^16:16even of the Covenant which he made with Abraham, and of his oath to Isaac. ^16:17And he has confirmed the same to Jacob for a Law, and to Israel for an everlasting Covenant, ^16:18saying, ‘To you will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance’, ^16:19when you were but few, even a few, and strangers in it. ^16:20And when they went from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another people, ^16:21he allowed no man to do them wrong; moreover, he reproved kings for their sakes, ^16:22saying, ‘Touch not my anointed, and do my prophets no harm.’ ^16:23Sing to Jehovah, all the earth; show forth his salvation from day to day. ^16:24Declare his glory among the heathen: his marvelous works among all nations. ^16:25For great is Jehovah, and greatly to be praised; he also is to be feared above all gods: ^16:26for all the gods of the people are idols; but Jehovah made the heavens. ^16:27Glory and honor are in his presence; strength and gladness are in his place. ^16:28Give to Jehovah, you kindreds of the people, give to Jehovah glory and strength. ^16:29Give to Jehovah the glory due to his Name; bring an offering, and come before him; worship Jehovah in the beauty of holiness. ^16:30Fear before him, all the earth; the world also shall be stable, so that it is not moved. ^16:31Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; and let them say among the nations, ‘Jehovah is reigning.’ ^16:32Let the sea roar, and everything in it; let the fields rejoice, and all that is in them. ^16:33Then shall the trees of the wood sing out at the presence of Jehovah, because he is coming to judge the earth. ^16:34O give thanks to Jehovah: for he is good: for his mercy endures forever. ^16:35And say, ‘Save us, O God of our salvation, and gather us together, and deliver us from the heathen, that we may give thanks to your holy Name, and glory in your praise.’ ^16:36Blessed is Jehovah God of Israel, forever and ever.” And all the people said, “Amen”, and praised Jehovah.

^16:37So he left there before the Ark of the Covenant of Jehovah Asaph and his brethren, to minister before the Ark continually, as every day’s work required; ^16:38and Obed-edom with their brethren, sixty-eight; Obed-edom also the son of Jeduthun and Hosah were gatekeepers; ^16:39and Zadok the priest, and his brethren the priests, before the Tabernacle of Jehovah in the high place that was at Gibeon, ^16:40to offer burnt offerings to Jehovah upon the altar of the burnt offering continually morning and evening, and to do according to all that is written in the Law of Jehovah, which he commanded Israel; ^16:41and with them Heman and Jeduthun, and the rest that were chosen, which were expressed by name, to give thanks to Jehovah, because his mercy endures forever; ^16:42and with them Heman and Jeduthun with trumpets and cymbals for those that should make a sound, and with musical instruments of God. And the sons of Jeduthun were gatekeepers. ^16:43And all the people went every man to his house; and David returned to bless his house.

¶Complement   Jehovah told David that he would not build a Temple for Him, but his son would (1 Chronicles 17:1 - 15)

^17:1Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, “See, I dwell in a house of cedars, but the Ark of the Covenant of Jehovah remains under curtains.” ^17:2Then Nathan said to David, “Do all that is in your heart: for God is with you.” ^17:3And it came to pass the same night, that the Word of God came to Nathan, saying, ^17:4“Go and tell David my servant, ‘Thus says Jehovah: ‘You shall not build me a House to dwell in: ^17:5for I have not dwelt in a house since the day that I brought up Israel from Egypt until this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from one Tabernacle to another. ^17:6Wheresoever I have walked with all Israel, did I speak a word to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people, saying, ‘Why have you not built me a House of cedars?’’’

^17:7“Now therefore thus shall you say to my servant David, ‘Thus says Jehovah of hosts: ‘I took you from the sheepcote, even from following the sheep, that you should be ruler over my people Israel. ^17:8And I have been with you wheresoever you have walked, and have cut off all your enemies from before you; and I have made you a name like the name of the great men that are in the earth.

^17:9“Also I will ordain a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them anymore, as at the beginning, ^17:10even since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. Moreover I will subdue all your enemies.”

“Furthermore I tell you that Jehovah will build you a house. ^17:11And it shall come to pass, when your days have expired that you must go to be with your fathers, that I will raise up your Seed after you, which shall be of your sons; and I will establish his Kingdom. ^17:12He shall build me a House, and I will establish his throne forever. ^17:13I will be his Father, and he shall be my Son. And I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before you, ^17:14but I will settle him in my House and in my Kingdom forever; and his throne shall be established forevermore.’’”

^17:15According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak to David.

¶Complement   David praised and glorified Jehovah for his promises of blessing to him and his house (1 Chronicles 17:16 - 27)

^17:16And David the king came and sat before Jehovah, and said, “Who am I, O Jehovah God, and what is my house, that you have brought me this far? ^17:17And yet this was a small thing in your eyes, O God: for you have also spoken of your servant’s house for a great while to come. And you have regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O Jehovah God. ^17:18What can David speak more to you for the honor of your servant? For you know your servant.

^17:19“O Jehovah, for your servant’s sake, and according to your own heart, have you done all this greatness, in making known all these great things.

^17:20“O Jehovah, there is none like you; neither is there any God beside you, according to all that we have heard with our ears. ^17:21And what one nation in the earth is like your people Israel, whom God went to redeem to be his own people, to make you a Name of greatness and dreadfulness, by driving out nations from before your people, whom you have redeemed out of Egypt? ^17:22For your people Israel did you make your own people forever; and you, Jehovah, became their God.”

^17:23“Now therefore, O Jehovah, let the thing that you have spoken concerning your servant and concerning his house be established forever; and do as you have said. ^17:24Let it even be established, that your Name may be magnified forever, saying, ‘Jehovah of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel.’ And let the house of David your servant be established before you: ^17:25for you, O my God, have told your servant that you will build him a house; therefore your servant has found this in his heart to pray before you.

^17:26“And now, Jehovah, you are the true God; and you have promised this goodness to your servant; ^17:27now therefore let it please you to bless the house of your servant, that it may be before you forever: for you bless, O Jehovah; and it shall be blessed forever.”

¶Opposite   David conquered all of the land given to Israel by Jehovah through the Abrahamic Covenant (1 Chronicles 18:1 - 17)

^18:1Now after this it came to pass, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them, and took Gath and her towns out of the hand of the Philistines. ^18:2And he smote Moab; and the Moabites became David’s servants, and brought gifts.

^18:3And David smote Hadarezer king of Zobah as far as Hamath, as he went to establish his dominion by the Euphrates river. ^18:4And David took from him a thousand chariots, seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen. David also hocked all the chariot horses, but reserved of them one hundred chariots. ^18:5And when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadarezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians twenty-two thousand men. ^18:6Then David put garrisons in Syria-Damascus; and the Syrians became David’s servants, and brought gifts. Thus Jehovah preserved David wheresoever he went. ^18:7And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadarezer, and brought them to Jerusalem. ^18:8Likewise from Tibhath, and from Chun, cities of Hadarezer, David brought a great quantity of bronze, with which Solomon made the sea of bronze, the pillars, and the vessels of bronze.

^18:9Now when Tou king of Hamath heard how David had smitten all the army of Hadarezer king of Zobah, ^18:10he sent Hadoram his son to king David, to inquire of his welfare, and to congratulate him, because he had fought against Hadarezer, and smitten him (for Hadarezer was at war with Tou); and Hadoram brought with him all kinds of vessels of gold, silver, and bronze. ^18:11King David dedicated them also to Jehovah, with the silver and the gold that he brought from all these nations: from Edom, from Moab, from the children of Ammon, from the Philistines, and from Amalek.

^18:12Moreover Abishai the son of Zeruiah slew eighteen thousand of the Edomites in the valley of salt. ^18:13And he put garrisons in Edom; and all the Edomites became David’s servants. In this manner Jehovah preserved David wheresoever he went.

^18:14So David reigned over all Israel, and executed judgment and justice among all his people. ^18:15And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder. ^18:16And Zadok the son of Ahitub and Abimelech the son of Abiathar were the priests; and Shavsha was scribe; ^18:17and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and the sons of David were chief around the king.

¶Opposite   David conquered the Ammonites after a deliberate provocation by their king (1 Chronicles 19:1 - 20:3)

^19:1Now it came to pass after this, that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon died, and his son reigned in his place. ^19:2And David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father showed kindness to me.” And David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. So the servants of David came into the land of the children of Ammon to Hanun, to comfort him. ^19:3But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, “Do you think that David honors your father, in that he has sent comforters to you? Have not his servants come to you in order to search, and to overthrow, and to spy out the land?” ^19:4Therefore Hanun took David’s servants, and shaved them, and cut off their garments in the middle hard by their buttocks, and sent them away.

^19:5Then there went certain men, and told David how the men were served. And he sent messengers to meet them: for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said, “Wait at Jericho until your beards have grown, and then return.”

^19:6And when the children of Ammon saw that they had made themselves offensive to David, Hanun and the children of Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver to hire them chariots and horsemen out of Mesopotamia, and out of Syria-Maachah, and out of Zobah. ^19:7So they hired thirty-two thousand chariots, and the king of Maachah and his people, who came and pitched before Medeba. And the children of Ammon gathered themselves together from their cities, and came to battle. ^19:8And when David heard of this, he sent Joab, and all the army of the mighty men. ^19:9And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array before the gate of the city; and the kings that came were by themselves in the field. ^19:10Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose out of all the choice of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians. ^19:11And the rest of the people he delivered to the hand of Abishai his brother, and they set themselves in array against the children of Ammon. ^19:12And he said, “If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you shall help me; but if the children of Ammon are too strong for you, then I will help you. ^19:13Be of good courage, and let us behave ourselves valiantly for our people, and for the cities of our God; and let Jehovah do that which is good in his sight.” ^19:14So Joab and the people that were with him drew near before the Syrians to the battle; and they fled before him. ^19:15And when the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians had fled, they likewise fled before Abishai his brother, and entered into the city. Then Joab came to Jerusalem.

^19:16And when the Syrians saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they sent messengers, and drew forth the Syrians that were beyond the Euphrates river; and Shophach the captain of the army of Hadarezer went before them. ^19:17And it was told David; and so he gathered all Israel, and passed over Jordan, and came upon them, and set the battle in array against them. So when David had put the battle in array against the Syrians, they fought with him. ^19:18But the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew seven thousand of the Syrians in chariots, and forty thousand soldiers on foot, and killed Shophach the captain of the army. ^19:19And when the servants of Hadarezer saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they made peace with David, and became his servants; neither would the Syrians help the children of Ammon anymore.

^20:1And it came to pass, that after the year was expired, at the time that kings go out to battle, Joab led forth the power of the army; and he wasted the country of the children of Ammon; and he came and besieged Rabbah. But David waited at Jerusalem. And Joab smote Rabbah, and destroyed it. ^20:2And David took the crown of their king from off his head, and found it to weigh a talent of gold, and there were precious stones in it. And it was set upon David’s head. And he also brought a great quantity of plunder out of the city. ^20:3And he brought out the people that were in it, and put them to work with saws, and with sharpened tools of iron, and with axes. Even so dealt David with all the cities of the children of Ammon. And David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.

^20:5And there was war again with the Philistines; and Elhanan the son of Jair slew Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, whose spear staff was like a weaver’s beam.

^20:6And yet again there was war at Gath, where was a man of great stature, whose fingers and toes were twenty-four: six on each hand, and six on each foot; and he also was a son of the giant.

^20:7But when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea David’s brother slew him.

^20:8These were born to the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

¶Complement   David caused the deaths of seventy thousand men in Israel through a selfish act of pride (1 Chronicles 21:1 - 30)

^21:1And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel. ^21:2And David said to Joab and to the rulers of the people, “Go, number Israel from Beer-sheba even to Dan; and bring the number of them to me, that I may know it.” ^21:3And Joab answered, “Jehovah make his people a hundred times so many more as they are; but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord’s servants? Why then does my lord require this thing? Why will he be a cause of trespass to Israel?” ^21:4Nevertheless the king’s word prevailed against Joab. Therefore Joab departed, and went throughout all Israel. And he came to Jerusalem; ^21:5and Joab gave the sum of the number of the people to David. And all they of Israel were one million and one hundred thousand men that drew a sword; and Judah was four hundred and seventy thousand men that drew a sword. ^21:6But he did not count Levi and Benjamin among them: for the king’s word was abominable to Joab.

^21:7And God was displeased with this thing; therefore he smote Israel. ^21:8And David said to God, “I have sinned greatly, because I have done this thing; but now, please, do away the iniquity of your servant: for I have done very foolishly.” ^21:9And Jehovah spoke to Gad, David’s Seer, saying, ^21:10“Go and tell David, saying, ‘Thus says Jehovah: ‘I offer you three things; choose one of them, that I may do it to you.’’” ^21:11So Gad came to David, and said to him, “‘Thus says Jehovah: ‘Choose ^21:12either three years’ famine, or three months to be destroyed before your foes, while the sword of your enemies overtakes you, or else three days the sword of Jehovah, even the plague, in the land, and the angel of Jehovah destroying throughout all the territory of Israel.’’ Now therefore consider what word I shall bring again to him that sent me.” ^21:13And David said to Gad, “I am in a great predicament. Let me fall now into the hand of Jehovah: for his mercies are very great; but let me not fall into the hand of man.”

^21:14So Jehovah sent a plague upon Israel; and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men. ^21:15And God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it; and as he was destroying, Jehovah beheld, and he relented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, “It is enough, restrain your hand now.” And the angel of Jehovah stood by the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite. ^21:16And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of Jehovah stand between the earth and the heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders of Israel, who were clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces. ^21:17And David said to God, “Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? It is even I that have sinned and done evil indeed; but as for these sheep, what have they done? Please, let your hand, O Jehovah my God, be on me, and on my father’s house; but not on your people, that they should be plagued.”

^21:18Then the angel of Jehovah commanded Gad to say to David, that David should go up, and set up an altar to Jehovah in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite. ^21:19And David went up at the saying of Gad, which he spoke in the Name of Jehovah. ^21:20And Ornan turned back, and saw the angel; and his four sons with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat. ^21:21And as David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David, and went out of the threshingfloor, and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground. ^21:22Then David said to Ornan, “Grant me the place of this threshingfloor, that I may build an altar in it to Jehovah; you shall grant it me for the full price, that the plague may be stayed from the people.” ^21:23And Ornan said to David, “Take it to you, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes; look, I give you the oxen also for burnt offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meal offering: I give it all.” ^21:24And king David said to Ornan, “No, but I will truly buy it for the full price: for I will not take that which is yours for Jehovah, nor offer burnt offerings without cost.” ^21:25So David gave to Ornan for the place six hundred shekels of gold by weight. ^21:26And David built there an altar to Jehovah, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called upon Jehovah; and he answered him from Heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt offering. ^21:27And Jehovah commanded the angel, and he put up his sword again into its sheath.

^21:28At that time when David saw that Jehovah had answered him in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there: ^21:29for the Tabernacle of Jehovah, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of the burnt offering, were at that season in the high place at Gibeon. ^21:30But David could not go before it to inquire of God: for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of Jehovah.

^14:4Y éstos son los nombres de los que le nacieron en Jerusalén: Samúa, Sobab, Natán, Salomón, ^14:5Ibhar, Elisúa, Elifelet, ^14:6Noga, Nefeg, Jafía, ^14:7Elisama, Beeliada y Elifelet.

^14:13Y volviendo los filisteos a extenderse por el valle, ^14:14David volvió a consultar a Dios, y Dios le dijo, “No subas tras ellos, sino rodéalos, para venir a ellos por delante de los árboles de moras. ^14:15Y así que oigas venir un estruendo por las copas de los árboles de moras, sal luego a la batalla: porque Dios saldrá delante de ti, y herirá el ejército de los filisteos”.

^14:16Hizo, pues, David como Dios le mandó, y derrotaron al ejército de los filisteos desde Gabaón hasta Gezer.

^14:17Y la fama de David fue divulgada por todas aquellas tierras; y Jehová puso temor de David sobre todas las naciones.

^15:1Hizo también casas para sí en la ciudad de David, y labró un lugar para el Arca de Dios, y le levantó una tienda. ^15:2Entonces dijo David, “El Arca de Dios no debe ser llevada sino por los levitas: porque a ellos ha escogido Jehová para que lleven el Arca de Dios y le sirvan perpetuamente”. ^15:3Y congregó David a todo Israel en Jerusalén, para que pasasen el Arca de Jehová a su lugar, el cual le había él preparado. ^15:4Reunió también David a los hijos de Aarón y a los levitas. ^15:5De los hijos de Coat, Uriel el principal, y sus hermanos, ciento veinte. ^15:6De los hijos de Merari, Asaías el principal, y sus hermanos, doscientos veinte; ^15:7de los hijos de Gersón, Joel el principal, y sus hermanos, ciento treinta; ^15:8de los hijos de Elizafán, Semaías el principal, y sus hermanos, doscientos; ^15:9de los hijos de Hebrón, Eliel el principal, y sus hermanos, ochenta; ^15:10de los hijos de Uziel, Aminadab el principal, y sus hermanos, ciento doce. ^15:11Y llamó David a los sacerdotes Sadoc y a Abiatar, y a los levitas, Uriel, Asaías, Joel, Semaías, Eliel, y Aminadab; ^15:12y les dijo, “Ustedes que sois los principales padres de los levitas, santificaos, ustedes y vuestros hermanos, y pasad el Arca de Jehová Dios de Israel al lugar que le he preparado; ^15:13pues por no haberlo hecho así ustedes la primera vez, Jehová nuestro Dios nos quebrantó, por cuanto no le buscamos según la ordenanza”. ^15:14Así los sacerdotes y los levitas se santificaron para traer el Arca de Jehová Dios de Israel. ^15:15Y los hijos de los levitas trajeron el Arca de Dios puesta sobre sus hombros en las barras, como lo había mandado Moisés conforme a la Palabra de Jehová. ^15:16Asimismo dijo David a los principales de los levitas, que constituyesen de sus hermanos a cantores, con instrumentos de música, con salterios y arpas y címbalos, que resonasen y alzasen la voz con alegría. ^15:17Y los levitas constituyeron a Hemán hijo de Joel; y de sus hermanos, a Asaf hijo de Berequías; y de los hijos de Merari y de sus hermanos, a Etán hijo de Cusaías; ^15:18y con ellos a sus hermanos del segundo orden, a Zacarías, Ben, Jaaziel, Semiramot, Jehiel, Uni, Eliab, Benaía, Maasías, Matatías, Elifelehu, Micnías, Obed-edom y Jeiel, los porteros. ^15:19Así Hemán, Asaf, y Etán, que eran cantores, sonaban címbalos de bronce. ^15:20Y Zacarías, Jaaziel, Semiramot, Jehiel, Uni, Eliab, Maasías, y Benaía, con salterios sobre Alamot. ^15:21Y Matatías, Elifelehu, Micnías, Obed-edom, Jeiel, y Azazías, cantaban con arpas en la octava sobresaliendo. ^15:22Y Quenanías, principal de los levitas, estaba para la entonación; pues él presidía en el canto: porque era entendido. ^15:23Y Berequías y Elcana eran porteros del Arca. ^15:24Y Sebanías, Josafat, Natanael, Amasai, Zacarías, Benaía, y Eliezer, sacerdotes, tocaban las trompetas delante del Arca de Dios; Obed-edom y Jehías eran también porteros del Arca. ^15:25David, pues, y los ancianos de Israel, y los capitanes de millares, fueron a traer el Arca del Pacto de Jehová, de casa de Obed-edom, con alegría. ^15:26Y sucedió que cuando Dios ayudó a los levitas que llevaban el Arca del Pacto de Jehová, ellos sacrificaron siete novillos y siete carneros. ^15:27Y David iba vestido de lino fino y también todos los levitas que llevaban el Arca, y asimismo los cantores; y Quenanías era maestro de canto entre los cantores. Llevaba también David sobre sí un efod de lino. ^15:28De esta manera llevaba todo Israel el Arca del Pacto de Jehová, con júbilo y sonido de bocinas, y trompetas, y címbalos, y al son de salterios y arpas.

^15:29Y aconteció que cuando el Arca del Pacto de Jehová llegó a la ciudad de David, Mical, hija de Saúl, mirando por una ventana, vio al rey David que saltaba y danzaba; y lo menospreció en su corazón.

^16:1Así trajeron el Arca de Dios, y la pusieron en medio de la tienda que David había levantado para ella; y ofrecieron holocaustos y sacrificios de paz delante de Dios. ^16:2Y como David hubo acabado de ofrecer el holocausto y los sacrificios de paz, bendijo al pueblo en el Nombre de Jehová. ^16:3Y repartió a todo Israel, así a hombres como a mujeres, a cada uno una torta de pan, y una pieza de carne, y un frasco de vino. ^16:4Y puso delante del Arca de Jehová ministros de los levitas, para que recordasen y dieran gracias y loasen a Jehová Dios de Israel. ^16:5Asaf el primero, el segundo después de él Zacarías, Jeiel, Semiramot, Jehiel, Matatías, Eliab, Benaía, Obed-edom, y Jeiel, con sus instrumentos de salterios y arpas; pero Asaf hacía sonido con címbalos. ^16:6También los sacerdotes Benaía y Jahaziel, tocaban continuamente las trompetas delante del Arca del Pacto de Dios.

^16:7Entonces, en aquel día, David dio este salmo para agradecer a Jehová, en la mano de Asaf y sus hermanos: ^16:8“Dad gracias a Jehová, invocad su Nombre, dad a conocer entre los pueblos sus obras. ^16:9Cantad a él, cantadle salmos; hablad de todas sus maravillas. ^16:10Gloriaos en su santo Nombre; alégrese el corazón de los que buscan a Jehová. ^16:11Buscad a Jehová y su fortaleza; buscad su rostro continuamente. ^16:12Haced memoria de sus maravillas que ha hecho, de sus prodigios, y de los juicios de su boca, ^16:13oh ustedes, simiente de Israel su siervo, hijos de Jacob, sus escogidos. ^16:14Jehová, él es nuestro Dios; sus juicios están en toda la tierra. ^16:15Acordaos para siempre de su Pacto, y de la Palabra que él mandó para mil generaciones; ^16:16del Pacto que concertó con Abraham, y de su juramento a Isaac; ^16:17el cual confirmó a Jacob por Estatuto, y a Israel por Pacto sempiterno, diciendo, ^16:18‘A ti daré la tierra de Canaán, la porción de vuestra herencia’, ^16:19cuando erais pocos en número, muy pocos, y peregrinos en ella; ^16:20y andaban de nación en nación, y de un reino a otro pueblo. ^16:21No permitió que nadie los oprimiese; antes por amor de ellos castigó a los reyes. ^16:22‘No toquéis,’ dijo, ‘a mis ungidos, ni hagáis mal a mis Profetas’. ^16:23Cantad a Jehová, toda la tierra, anunciad de día en día su salvación. ^16:24Proclamad entre las naciones su gloria, y en todos los pueblos sus maravillas: ^16:25porque grande es Jehová, y digno de suprema alabanza, y de ser temido sobre todos los dioses: ^16:26porque todos los dioses de los pueblos son ídolos; pero Jehová hizo los cielos. ^16:27Gloria y hermosura hay en su presencia; fortaleza y alegría en su morada. ^16:28Dad a Jehová, oh familias de los pueblos, dad a Jehová gloria y poder. ^16:29Dad a Jehová la gloria debida a su Nombre; traed ofrenda, y venid delante de él; adorad a Jehová en la hermosura de su santidad. ^16:30Temed ante su presencia toda la tierra. El mundo será aún establecido, para que no se conmueva. ^16:31Alégrense los cielos, y gócese la tierra, y digan en las naciones, “¡Jehová reina!”. ^16:32Resuene el mar, y su plenitud; alégrese el campo, y todo lo que hay en él. ^16:33Entonces cantarán los árboles de los bosques delante de Jehová: porque viene a juzgar la tierra. ^16:34Dad gracias a Jehová: porque es bueno: porque su misericordia es eterna. ^16:35Y decid, ‘Sálvanos, oh Dios, salvación nuestra; Reúnenos, y líbranos de las naciones, para que confesemos tu santo Nombre, y nos gloriemos en tus alabanzas’. ^16:36Bendito sea Jehová Dios de Israel, desde la eternidad hasta eternidad”. Y todo el pueblo dijo, “Amén”, y alabó a Jehová.

^16:37Y dejó allí, delante del Arca del Pacto de Jehová, a Asaf y a sus hermanos, para que ministrasen de continuo delante del Arca, cada cosa en su día; ^16:38y a Obed-edom y a sus hermanos, sesenta y ocho; y a Obed-edom hijo de Jedutún, y a Hosa, por porteros; ^16:39asimismo a Sadoc el sacerdote, y a sus hermanos los sacerdotes, delante del Tabernáculo de Jehová en el alto que estaba en Gabaón, ^16:40para que sacrificasen continuamente, a mañana y tarde, holocaustos a Jehová en el altar del holocausto, conforme a todo lo que está escrito en la Ley de Jehová, que él prescribió a Israel; ^16:41Y con ellos a Hemán y a Jedutún, y los otros escogidos declarados por sus nombres, para glorificar a Jehová: porque es eterna su misericordia. ^16:42Con ellos a Hemán y a Jedutún con trompetas y címbalos resonantes y con otros instrumentos de música de Dios; y a los hijos de Jedutún, por porteros. ^16:43Y todo el pueblo se fue cada uno a su casa; y David se volvió para bendecir su casa.

¶El complemento   Jehová le dijo a David que él no construiría un templo para él, pero que su hijo construiría el Templo (1 Crónicas 17:1 - 15)

^17:1Y aconteció que morando David en su casa, dijo David al Profeta Natán, “He aquí yo habito en casa de cedro, y el Arca del Pacto de Jehová debajo de cortinas”. ^17:2Y Natán dijo a David, “Haz todo lo que está en tu corazón: porque Dios está contigo”. ^17:3Y sucedió que en aquella misma noche vino Palabra de Dios a Natán, diciendo, ^17:4“Ve y di a David mi siervo, ‘Así dice Jehová: Tú no me edificarás Casa en que habite: ^17:5porque no he habitado en Casa alguna desde el día que saqué a los hijos de Israel hasta hoy; pero he ido desde tienda a tienda, y desde uno Tabernáculo a otra Tabernáculo. ^17:6Dondequiera que anduve con todo Israel ¿hablé una palabra a alguno de los jueces de Israel, a los cuales mandé que apacentasen mi pueblo, para decirles, ‘Por qué no me edificáis una Casa de cedro?’’

^17:7“Por tanto, ahora dirás a mi siervo David, ‘Así dice Jehová de los ejércitos: Yo te tomé del redil, de detrás del rebaño, para que fueses príncipe sobre mi pueblo Israel; ^17:8y he estado contigo en todo cuanto has andado, y he talado a todos tus enemigos de delante de ti, y te he hecho gran nombre, como el nombre de los grandes que hay en la tierra.

^17:9“Asimismo he dispuesto lugar a mi pueblo Israel, y lo he plantado para que habite en su lugar, y no sea más removido; ni los hijos de iniquidad lo consumirán más, como antes, ^17:10y desde el tiempo que puse los jueces sobre mi pueblo Israel; pero humillaré a todos tus enemigos”.

“Además te hago saber que Jehová te edificará casa. ^17:11Y será que, cuando tus días fueren cumplidos ir a estar con tus padres, levantaré arriba tu Simiente después de ti, que será uno de tus hijos; y yo estableceré su Reino. ^17:12Él me edificará una Casa, y yo estableceré su trono para siempre. ^17:13Yo le seré por Padre, y él me será por hijo; y no quitaré de él mi misericordia, como la quité de aquél que fue antes de ti; ^17:14y yo lo afirmaré en mi Casa y en mi Reino eternamente; y su trono será firme para siempre’”.

^17:15Conforme a todas estas palabras, y conforme a toda esta visión, así habló Natán a David.

¶El complemento   David elogió y glorificó a Jehová por sus promesas de bendición para él y su casa (1 Crónicas 17:16 - 27)

^17:16Y entró el rey David, y estuvo delante de Jehová, y dijo, “Jehová Dios, ¿quién soy yo, y cuál es mi casa, que me has traído hasta este lugar? ^17:17Y aun esto, oh Dios, te ha parecido poco, pues que has hablado de la casa de tu siervo para tiempo futuro, y me has mirado como a un hombre excelente, oh Jehová Dios. ^17:18¿Qué más puede añadir David pidiendo de ti para honrar a tu siervo? Pues tú conoces a tu siervo.

^17:19“Oh Jehová, por amor de tu siervo y según tu corazón, has hecho toda esta grandeza, para hacer notorias todas tus grandezas.

^17:20“Jehová, no hay semejante a ti, ni hay Dios sino tú, según todas las cosas que hemos oído con nuestros oídos. ^17:21¿Y qué pueblo hay en la tierra como tu pueblo Israel, cuyo Dios fuese y se redimiese un pueblo, para hacerte Nombre con grandezas y maravillas, echando las naciones de delante de tu pueblo, que tú rescataste de Egipto? ^17:22Tú has constituido a tu pueblo Israel por pueblo tuyo para siempre; y tú, Jehová, has venido a ser su Dios”.

^17:23“Ahora pues, Jehová, la palabra que has hablado acerca de tu siervo y de su casa, sea firme para siempre, y haz como has dicho. ^17:24Permanezca, pues, y sea engrandecido tu Nombre para siempre, a fin de que se diga, ‘Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel, es Dios para Israel’. Y sea la casa de tu siervo David firme delante de ti: ^17:25porque tú, Dios mío, revelaste al oído a tu siervo que le has de edificar casa; por eso ha hallado tu siervo motivo de orar delante de ti.

^17:26“Ahora pues, Jehová, tú eres Dios, y has prometido a tu siervo este bien; ^17:27y ahora, ten a bien bendecir la casa de tu siervo, para que permanezca perpetuamente delante de ti: porque tú, Jehová, la has bendecido, y será bendita para siempre”.

¶Lo opuesto   David conquistó toda la tierra dada a Israel por Jehová a través del Pacto Abrahámico (1 Crónicas 18:1 - 17)

^18:1Después de estas cosas aconteció que David derrotó a los filisteos, y los humilló; y tomó a Gat y sus aldeas de mano de los filisteos. ^18:2También derrotó a Moab; y los moabitas fueron siervos de David trayéndole presentes.

^18:3Asimismo hirió David a Hadad-ezer rey de Soba, en Hamat, yendo él a asegurar su dominio junto al río Éufrates. ^18:4Y les tomó David mil carros y siete mil hombres de a caballo y veinte mil hombres de a pie; y desjarretó David los caballos de todos los carros, excepto los de cien carros que dejó. ^18:5Y viniendo los Sirios de Damasco en ayuda de Hadad-ezer rey de Soba, David hirió de los Sirios veintidós mil hombres. ^18:6Y puso David guarnición en Siria de Damasco, y los Sirios fueron hechos siervos de David, trayéndole presentes: porque Jehová daba victoria a David dondequiera que iba. ^18:7Tomó también David los escudos de oro que llevaban los siervos de Hadad-ezer, y los trajo a Jerusalén. ^18:8Asimismo de Tibhat y de Cun, ciudades de Hadad-ezer, tomó David muchísimo bronce, con el que Salomón hizo el mar de bronce, las columnas, y los utensilios de bronce.

^18:9Y oyendo Toi rey de Hamat, que David había deshecho todo el ejército de Hadad-ezer, rey de Soba, ^18:10envió a Adoram su hijo al rey David, a saludarle y a bendecirle por haber peleado con Hadad-ezer, y haberle vencido: porque Toi tenía guerra con Hadad-ezer. Le envió también toda clase de vasos de oro, de plata y de bronce; ^18:11os cuales el rey David dedicó a Jehová, con la plata y oro que había tomado de todas las naciones, de Edom, de Moab, de los hijos de Amón, de los filisteos y de Amalec.

^18:12A más de esto Abisai hijo de Sarvia hirió en el valle de la Sal a dieciocho mil edomitas. ^18:13Y puso guarnición en Edom, y todos los edomitas fueron siervos de David: porque Jehová guardaba a David dondequiera que iba.

^18:14Y David reinó sobre todo Israel, y hacía juicio y justicia a todo su pueblo. ^18:15Y Joab hijo de Sarvia era general del ejército; y Josafat hijo de Ahilud, cronista. ^18:16Y Sadoc hijo de Ahitob, y Abimelec hijo de Abiatar eran sacerdotes; y Savsa era escriba; ^18:17y Benaía hijo de Joiada era sobre los cereteos y peleteos; y los hijos de David eran los príncipes cerca del rey.

^19:1Después de estas cosas aconteció que murió Nahas rey de los hijos de Amón, y reinó en su lugar su hijo. ^19:2Y dijo David, “Haré misericordia con Hanún hijo de Nahas: porque también su padre hizo conmigo misericordia”. Así David envió embajadores que lo consolasen de la muerte de su padre. Pero venidos los siervos de David en la tierra de los hijos de Amón a Hanún, para consolarle. ^19:3Pero los príncipes de los hijos de Amón dijeron a Hanún, “¿A tu parecer honra David a tu padre, que te ha enviado consoladores? ¿No vienen más bien sus siervos a ti para reconocer, e inquirir, y espiar la tierra?”. ^19:4Entonces Hanún tomó los siervos de David, y los rapó, y les cortó las vestiduras por la mitad, hasta las nalgas, y los despidió.

^19:5Y fueron unos y dijeron a David de cómo aquellos varones habían sido tratados; y él envió a recibirlos: porque estaban muy avergonzados. Y les hizo decir el rey, “Estaos en Jericó hasta que os crezca la barba, y entonces volveréis”.

^19:6Y viendo los hijos de Amón que se habían hecho odiosos a David, Hanún y los hijos de Amón enviaron mil talentos de plata, para tomar a sueldo carros y gente de a caballo de Mesopotamia, de Siria, de Maaca y de Soba. ^19:7Y tomaron a sueldo treinta y dos mil carros, y al rey de Maaca y a su pueblo, los cuales vinieron y acamparon delante de Medeba. Y se juntaron también los hijos de Amón de sus ciudades, y vinieron a la guerra. ^19:8Oyéndolo David, envió a Joab con todo el ejército de los hombres valientes. ^19:9Y los hijos de Amón salieron, y ordenaron su tropa a la entrada de la ciudad; y los reyes que habían venido, estaban aparte en el campo. ^19:10Y viendo Joab que la batalla estaba contra él por el frente y por la retaguardia, escogió de los más aventajados que había en Israel, y ordenó su escuadrón contra los Sirios. ^19:11Puso luego el resto de la gente en mano de Abisai su hermano, y los ordenó en batalla contra los amonitas. ^19:12Y dijo, “Si los Sirios fueren más fuertes que yo, tú me ayudarás; y si los amonitas fueren más fuertes que tú, yo te ayudaré. ^19:13Esfuérzate y mostremos hombría por nuestro pueblo, y por las ciudades de nuestro Dios; y que haga Jehová lo que bien le pareciere”. ^19:14Se acercó luego Joab y el pueblo que tenía consigo, para pelear contra los Sirios; pero ellos huyeron delante de él. ^19:15Y los hijos de Amón, viendo que los Sirios habían huido, huyeron también ellos delante de Abisai su hermano, y entraron en la ciudad. Entonces Joab se volvió a Jerusalén.

^19:16Y viendo los Sirios que habían caído delante de Israel, enviaron embajadores, y trajeron a los Sirios que estaban al otro lado del río, cuyo capitán era Sofac, general del ejército de Hadad-ezer. ^19:17Luego que fue dado aviso a David, reunió a todo Israel, y pasando el Jordán vino a ellos, y ordenó contra ellos su ejército. Y como David hubo ordenado su tropa contra ellos, pelearon contra él los Sirios. ^19:18Pero los Sirios huyeron delante de Israel; y mató David de los Sirios siete mil hombres de los carros, y cuarenta mil hombres de a pie; asimismo mató a Sofac, general del ejército. ^19:19Y viendo los Sirios de Hadad-ezer que habían caído delante de Israel, concertaron paz con David, y fueron sus siervos; y nunca más quiso el sirio ayudar a los hijos de Amón.

^20:1Y aconteció a la vuelta del año, en el tiempo que suelen los reyes salir a la guerra, que Joab sacó las fuerzas del ejército, y destruyó la tierra de los hijos de Amón, y vino y sitió a Rabá. Pero David estaba en Jerusalén; y Joab batió a Rabá, y la destruyó. ^20:2Entonces David tomó la corona del rey de ellos de sobre su cabeza, y la halló de peso de un talento de oro, y había en ella piedras preciosas; y fue puesta sobre la cabeza de David. Y además de esto sacó de la ciudad muy grande botín. ^20:3Sacó también al pueblo que estaba en ella y les hizo cortar con sierras, con trillos de hierro, y con hachas. Lo mismo hizo David a todas las ciudades de los hijos de Amón. Y se volvió David con todo el pueblo a Jerusalén.

§El complemento   Conclusión: El rey David fue un gran guerrero y un hombre falible quien causó muchas muertes (1 Crónicas 20:4 - 21:30)

¶El complemento   David y sus sirvientes mataron a algunos de los miembros de la familia del gigante Goliat (uno de los nephilim) (1 Crónicas 20:4 - 8)

^20:4Después de esto aconteció que se levantó guerra en Gezer contra los filisteos; e hirió Sibecai Husatita a Sipai, del linaje de los nephilim; y fueron humillados.

^20:5Y se volvió a levantar guerra con los filisteos; e hirió Elhanán hijo de Jair a Lahmi, hermano de Goliat Geteo, el asta de cuya lanza era como de un rodillo de telar.

^20:6Y volvió a haber guerra en Gat, donde hubo un hombre de grande estatura, el cual tenía seis dedos en pies y manos, veinticuatro en total; y también era hijo de un gigante.

^20:7Desafió él a Israel, pero lo mató Jonatán, hijo de Sima hermano de David.

^20:8Éstos fueron hijos del gigante de Gat, los cuales cayeron por mano de David y de sus siervos.

¶El complemento   David causó la muerte de setenta mil hombres en Israel a través de un acto egoísta de orgullo (1 Crónicas 21:1 - 30)

^21:1Pero Satanás se levantó contra Israel, e incitó a David a que contase a Israel. ^21:2Y dijo David a Joab y a los príncipes del pueblo, “Id, contad a Israel desde Beerseba hasta Dan, y traedme el número de ellos para que yo lo sepa”. ^21:3Y dijo Joab, “Añada Jehová a su pueblo cien veces más. Rey señor mío, ¿no son todos éstos siervos de mi señor? ¿Para qué procura mi señor esto, que será pernicioso a Israel?”. ^21:4Pero el mandamiento del rey pudo más que Joab. Salió, por tanto, Joab y recorrió todo Israel, y volvió a Jerusalén. ^21:5Y Joab dio la cuenta del número del pueblo a David. Y había en todo Israel un millón cien mil que sacaban espada, y de Judá cuatrocientos setenta mil hombres que sacaban espada. ^21:6Entre éstos no fueron contados los levitas, ni los hijos de Benjamín: porque Joab abominaba el mandamiento del rey.

^21:7Y esto desagradó a Dios, e hirió a Israel. ^21:8Y dijo David a Dios, “He pecado gravemente en hacer esto; te ruego que hagas pasar la iniquidad de tu siervo: porque yo he hecho muy locamente”. ^21:9Y habló Jehová a Gad, vidente de David, diciendo, ^21:10“Ve, y habla a David, y dile, ‘Así dice Jehová: Tres cosas te propongo; escoge de ellas una que yo haga contigo’”. ^21:11Y viniendo Gad a David, le dijo, “Así dice Jehová, ‘Escoge para ti; ^21:12o tres años de hambre; o por tres meses ser derrotado delante de tus enemigos, y que la espada de tus adversarios te alcance; o por tres días la espada de Jehová y pestilencia en la tierra, y que el ángel de Jehová destruya en todo el término de Israel’’. “Mira, pues, qué he de responder al que me ha enviado”. ^21:13Entonces David dijo a Gad, “Estoy en grande angustia. Ruego que yo caiga en la mano de Jehová: porque sus misericordias son muchas en extremo. Y que no caiga yo en manos de hombres”.

^21:14Así Jehová envió pestilencia en Israel, y cayeron de Israel setenta mil hombres. ^21:15Y envió Jehová el ángel a Jerusalén para destruirla; pero cuando él estaba destruyendo, miró Jehová, y se arrepintió de aquel mal, y dijo al ángel que destruía, “¡Basta ya! Detén tu mano”. Y el ángel de Jehová estaba junto a la era de Ornán el jebuseo. ^21:16Y alzando David sus ojos, vio al ángel de Jehová, que estaba entre el cielo y la tierra, teniendo una espada desenvainada en su mano, extendida sobre Jerusalén. Entonces David y los ancianos se postraron sobre sus rostros, cubiertos de cilicio. ^21:17Y dijo David a Dios, “¿No soy yo el que hizo contar el pueblo? Yo mismo soy el que pequé, y ciertamente he hecho mal; pero estas ovejas, ¿qué han hecho? Jehová Dios mío, sea ahora tu mano contra mí, y contra la casa de mi padre, y no haya plaga en tu pueblo”.

^21:18Y el ángel de Jehová ordenó a Gad que dijese a David, que subiese y construyese un altar a Jehová en la era de Ornán jebuseo. ^21:19Entonces David subió, conforme a la palabra de Gad que le había dicho en Nombre de Jehová. ^21:20Y volviéndose Ornán vio al ángel; por lo que se escondieron cuatro hijos suyos que con él estaban. Y Ornán trillaba el trigo. ^21:21Y viniendo David a Ornán, miró Ornán, y vio a David; y saliendo de la era, se postró en tierra ante David. ^21:22Entonces dijo David a Ornán, “Dame este lugar de la era, para que edifique un altar a Jehová, y dámelo por su cabal precio, para que cese la plaga del pueblo”. ^21:23Y Ornán respondió a David, “Tómalo para ti, y haga mi señor el rey lo que bien le pareciere; y aun los bueyes daré para el holocausto, y los trillos para leña, y trigo para la ofrenda; yo lo doy todo”. ^21:24Entonces el rey David dijo a Ornán, “No, sino que efectivamente la compraré por su justo precio: porque no tomaré para Jehová lo que es tuyo, ni sacrificaré holocausto que nada me cueste”. ^21:25Y dio David a Ornán por aquel lugar seiscientos siclos de oro por peso. ^21:26Y edificó allí David un altar a Jehová, en el que ofreció holocaustos y ofrendas de paz, e invocó a Jehová, el cual le respondió por fuego desde los Cielo en el altar del holocausto. ^21:27Y Jehová habló al ángel, y éste volvió su espada a la vaina.

^21:28En aquel tiempo cuando David vio que Jehová le había respondido en la era de Ornán jebuseo, sacrificó allí. ^21:29Y el Tabernáculo de Jehová que Moisés había hecho en el desierto, y el altar del holocausto, estaban entonces en el alto de Gabaón. ^21:30Pero David no pudo ir allá a consultar a Dios: porque estaba espantado a causa de la espada del ángel de Jehová.
