^10:6And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon his father while he still lived, saying, “What counsel do you give me to return an answer to this people?” ^10:7And they spoke to him, saying, “If you are kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be your servants forever.”

^10:8But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him; and he took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stood before him. ^10:9And he said to them, “What advice do you give that we may return an answer to this people, which have spoken to me, saying, ‘Ease somewhat the yoke that your father put upon us?’” ^10:10And the young men that were brought up with him spoke to him, saying, “Thus shall you answer the people that spoke to you, saying, ‘Your father made our yoke heavy, but make it somewhat lighter for us’: thus shall you say to them, ‘My little finger shall be thicker than my father’s waist: ^10:11for whereas my father put a heavy yoke upon you, I will put more to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions!’”

^10:16And when all Israel saw that the king would not listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, “What portion have we in David? And we have no inheritance in the son of Jesse. Every man to your tents, O Israel; and now, David, see to your own house.” So all Israel went to their tents. ^10:17But as for the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.

^10:18Then king Rehoboam sent Hadoram that was over the tax collection; and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, so that he died. But king Rehoboam hurried to get up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem. ^10:19And so Israel rebelled against the house of David until this day.

^11:1And when Rehoboam came to Jerusalem, he gathered one hundred and eighty thousand chosen men of the house of Judah and Benjamin (which were warriors) to fight against Israel, that he might bring the kingdom to Rehoboam again.

^11:2But the Word of Jehovah came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying, ^11:3“Speak to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying, ^11:4‘Thus says Jehovah: ‘You shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren. Return every man to his house: for this thing is done by me.’’” And they obeyed the words of Jehovah; and they returned from going against Jeroboam.

^11:13And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their territories: ^11:14for the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem (for Jeroboam and his sons had cast them off from executing the priest’s office to Jehovah; ^11:15and he ordained for himself priests for the high places, and for the demons, and for the golden calves which he had made).

^11:16And after them out of all the tribes of Israel such people as set their hearts to seek Jehovah God of Israel, came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice to Jehovah God of their fathers. ^11:17So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years: for three years they walked in the way of David and Solomon.

^11:18And Rehoboam took him Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David to be his wife, and Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse, ^11:19which bore him children: Jeush, Shamariah, and Zaham. ^11:20And after her he took Maachah the daughter of Absalom, which bore him Abijah, Attai, Ziza, and Shelomith. ^11:21And Rehoboam loved Maachah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines (for he took eighteen wives, and sixty concubines; and begot twenty-eight sons, and sixty daughters). ^11:22And Rehoboam made Abijah the son of Maachah the chief, to be ruler among his brethren: for he wanted to make him king.

^11:23And he dealt wisely, and dispersed all his children throughout all the territories of Judah and Benjamin, to every fortified city; and he gave them provisions in abundance. And he desired many wives.

^12:1And it came to pass, when Rehoboam had established the kingdom, and had strengthened himself, he forsook the Law of Jehovah, and all Israel with him.

^12:2And it came to pass, that in the fifth year of king Rehoboam Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem (because they had transgressed against Jehovah) ^12:3with twelve hundred chariots, and sixty thousand horsemen; and the people were uncountable that came with him out of Egypt: the Lubim, the Sukkiims, and the Ethiopians. ^12:4And he took the fortified cities which belonged to Judah, and came to Jerusalem.

^12:5Then Shemaiah the prophet came to Rehoboam, and to the princes of Judah, that were gathered together to Jerusalem because of Shishak, and said to them, “Thus says Jehovah: ‘You have forsaken me; and therefore have I also left you in the hand of Shishak.’” ^12:6Whereupon the princes of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and they said, “Jehovah is righteous.” ^12:7And when Jehovah saw that they humbled themselves, the Word of Jehovah came to Shemaiah, saying, “They have humbled themselves; therefore I will not destroy them, but I will grant them some deliverance; and my wrath shall not be poured out upon Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak. ^12:8Nevertheless they shall be his servants, that they may know my service, and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.”

^12:9So Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, and took away the treasures of the House of Jehovah, and the treasures of the king’s house: he took everything; he also carried away the shields of gold which Solomon had made. ^12:10Instead of which king Rehoboam made shields of bronze, and committed them to the hands of the chief of the guard, that kept the entrance of the king’s house. ^12:11And when the king entered into the House of Jehovah, the guard came and retrieved them, and brought them again into the guard chamber. ^12:12And when he humbled himself, the wrath of Jehovah turned from him, that he would not destroy him altogether; and also in Judah things went well. ^12:13So king Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem, and reigned: for Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign; and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which Jehovah had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his Name there. And his mother’s name was Naamah an Ammonitess. ^12:14And he did evil, because he did not prepare his heart to seek Jehovah.

^12:15Now the acts of Rehoboam, first and last, are they not written in the book of Shemaiah the prophet, and of Iddo the Seer concerning genealogies? And there were wars between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually. ^12:16And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David; and Abijah his son reigned in his place.

And there was war between Abijah and Jeroboam: ^13:3and Abijah set the battle in array with an army of valiant men of war, even four hundred thousand chosen men. Jeroboam also set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, being mighty men of valor. ^13:4And Abijah stood up upon mount Zemaraim, which is in mount Ephraim, and he said, “Hear me, you Jeroboam, and all Israel! ^13:5Should you not know that Jehovah God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David forever, even to him and to his sons by a Covenant of salt?

^13:6Yet Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, has risen up and rebelled against his lord. ^13:7And there are gathered to him vain men, the children of Belial; and they strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and tender-hearted, and could not withstand them.

^13:8And now you think to withstand the Kingdom of Jehovah in the hand of the sons of David; and you are a great multitude. And there are golden calves with you, which Jeroboam made you for gods. ^13:9Have you not cast out the priests of Jehovah, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and have made you priests after the manner of the nations of other lands, so that whosoever comes to consecrate himself with a bull and seven rams, the same may be a priest of false gods?

^13:10But as for us, Jehovah is our God; and we have not forsaken him. And the priests, which minister to Jehovah, are the sons of Aaron; and the Levites attend to their duties; ^13:11and they burn to Jehovah burnt sacrifices and sweet incense every morning and every evening; also they set the showbread in order upon the pure table, and the candlestick of gold with its lamps, to burn every evening. For we keep the charge of Jehovah our God; but you have forsaken him. ^13:12And, behold, God himself is with us for our Captain; and his priests with sounding trumpets to cry alarm against you! O children of Israel, fight not against Jehovah God of your fathers: for you shall not prosper!”

^13:15Then the men of Judah gave a shout; and as the men of Judah shouted, it came to pass, that God smote Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.

^13:16And the children of Israel fled before Judah; and God delivered them into their hand. ^13:17And Abijah and his people slew them with a great slaughter, so there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.

^13:18Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time; and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied upon Jehovah God of their fathers. ^13:19And Abijah pursued after Jeroboam, and took cities from him: Bethel with its towns, Jeshanah with its towns, and Ephrain with its towns; ^13:20neither did Jeroboam recover strength again in the days of Abijah; and Jehovah smote him, and he died.

^13:21But Abijah grew mighty; and he married fourteen wives, and begot twenty-two sons, and sixteen daughters. ^13:22And the rest of the acts of Abijah, and his ways, and his sayings, they are written in the story of Iddo the prophet. ^14:1So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David; and Asa his son reigned in his place.

In his days the land was quiet ten years. ^14:2And Asa did good and right in the eyes of Jehovah his God: ^14:3for he took away the altars of the strange gods, and the high places, and broke down the images, and cut down the images of Asherah; ^14:4and he commanded Judah to seek Jehovah God of their fathers, and to do the Law and the Commandment. ^14:5Also he took away the high places and the images out of all the cities of Judah; and the kingdom was quiet before him.

^14:6And he built fortified cities in Judah: for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years, because Jehovah had given him rest. ^14:7Therefore he said to Judah, “Let us build these cities; and make about them walls, towers, gates, and bars. The land is still before us, because we have sought Jehovah our God; we have sought him, and he has given us rest on every side.” So they built and prospered.

^14:8And Asa had an army of men that carried large shields and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that carried small shields and drew bows, two hundred and eighty thousand; all these were mighty men of valor. ^14:9And Zerah the Ethiopian came out against them with an army of a million soldiers, and three hundred chariots; and they came to Mareshah.

^14:10Then Asa went out against him; and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah. ^14:11And Asa cried to Jehovah his God, and said, “Jehovah, it is nothing with you to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power. Help us, O Jehovah our God: for we rest on you, and in your Name we go against this multitude. O Jehovah, you are our God! Let no man prevail against you.”

^14:12So Jehovah smote the Ethiopians before Asa and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled. ^14:13And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them to Gerar; and the Ethiopians were overthrown, so that they could not recover themselves: for they were destroyed before Jehovah, and before his army; and they carried away a great quantity of plunder. ^14:14And they attacked all the cities surrounding Gerar: for the fear of Jehovah came upon them; and they plundered all the cities: for there was a great amount of plunder in them. ^14:15They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.

^15:3“Now for a long season Israel has been without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without Law. ^15:4But when they in their trouble turned to Jehovah God of Israel, and sought him, he was found of them. ^15:5And in those times there was no peace to him that went out, nor to him that came in, but great vexations were upon all the inhabitants of the countries. ^15:6And nation was destroyed by nation, and city of city: for God vexed them with all adversity. ^15:7Therefore be strong, and let not your hands be weak: for your work shall be rewarded.”

^15:8And when Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the abominable idols out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from mount Ephraim, and renewed the altar of Jehovah, that was before the porch of Jehovah.

^15:9And he gathered all Judah and Benjamin, and the strangers with them out of Ephraim and Manasseh, and out of Simeon: for they fell to him out of Israel in abundance, when they saw that Jehovah his God was with him. ^15:10So they gathered themselves together at Jerusalem in the third month, in the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa. ^15:11And they offered to Jehovah the same time, of the plunder which they had brought: seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep. ^15:12And they entered into a covenant to seek Jehovah God of their fathers, with all their heart and with all their soul, ^15:13that whosoever would not seek Jehovah God of Israel, should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman. ^15:14And they swore to Jehovah with a loud voice, with shouting, with trumpets, and with cornets. ^15:15And all Judah rejoiced at the oath: for they had sworn with all their heart, and sought him with their whole desire; and he was found of them; and Jehovah gave them rest round about.

^15:16And also concerning Maachah the mother of Asa the king, he removed her from being queen, because she had made an idol, an image of Asherah. And Asa cut down her idol, and stamped it, and burned it at the brook Kidron. ^15:17But the high places were not completely taken away out of Israel; nevertheless the heart of Asa was loyal to Jehovah all his days. ^15:18And he brought into the House of God the things that his father had dedicated, and that he himself had dedicated: silver, gold, and vessels. ^15:19And there was no more war until the thirty-fifth year of the reign of Asa.

Behold, I have sent you silver and gold; therefore go and break your league with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.” ^16:4And Ben-hadad gave heed to king Asa, and sent the captains of his armies against the cities of Israel; and they smote Ijon, Dan, Abel-maim, and all the store cities of Naphtali.

^16:5And it came to pass, when Baasha heard of this, that he stopped building Ramah, and let his work cease. ^16:6Then Asa the king took all Judah; and they carried away the stones of Ramah, and its timber, with which Baasha was building, and he built therewith Geba and Mizpah.

^16:7And at that time Hanani the Seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said to him, “Because you have relied on the king of Syria, and not relied on Jehovah your God; therefore the army of the king of Syria has escaped out of your hand. ^16:8Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubims a huge army, with a great many chariots and horsemen? Yet, because you relied on Jehovah, he delivered them into your hand. ^16:9For the eyes of Jehovah run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is loyal toward him. Herein you have done foolishly; therefore from henceforth you shall have wars.”

^16:10Then Asa was angry with the Seer, and put him in a prison house: for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of the people the same time.

^16:11And, behold, the acts of Asa, first and last, lo, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel. ^16:12And Asa in the thirty-ninth year of his reign was diseased in his feet, until his disease was exceedingly great; yet in his disease he did not seek to Jehovah, but to the physicians. ^16:13And Asa slept with his fathers, and died in the forty-first year of his reign. ^16:14And they buried him in one of his own graves, which he had made for himself in the city of David, and laid him in the bed which was filled with sweet odors and diverse kinds of spices prepared by the apothecaries’ art; and they made a very great burning for him.

^10:8Pero él, dejando el consejo que le dieron los viejos, tomó consejo con los jóvenes que se habían criado con él, y que estaban a su servicio; ^10:9y les dijo, “¿Qué aconsejáis ustedes que respondamos a este pueblo, que me ha hablado, diciendo, ‘Alivia algo del yugo que tu padre puso sobre nosotros?’” ^10:10Entonces los jóvenes que se habían criado con él, le hablaron, diciendo, “Así dirás al pueblo que te ha hablado diciendo, ‘Tu padre agravó nuestro yugo, pero tú aligéralo’. Así les dirás, ‘Mi dedo meñique es más grueso que los lomos de mi padre. ^10:11¡Así que, mi padre os cargó de grave yugo, y yo añadiré a vuestro yugo; mi padre os castigó con azotes, pero yo os castigaré con escorpiones!’”

¶Lo opuesto   El pueblo de Israel se rebeló contra el rey Roboam porque era la voluntad de Dios (2 Crónicas 10:12 - 11:4)

^10:12Vino, pues, Jeroboam con todo el pueblo a Roboam al tercer día; según el rey les había mandado diciendo, “Volved a mí de aquí a tres días”. ^10:13Y les respondió el rey ásperamente; pues dejó el rey Roboam el consejo de los viejos, ^10:14y les habló conforme al consejo de los jóvenes, diciendo, “¡Mi padre agravó vuestro yugo, y yo añadiré a vuestro yugo; mi padre os castigó con azotes, y yo os castigaré con escorpiones!”. ^10:15Y no escuchó el rey al pueblo: porque la causa era de Dios, para cumplir Jehová su Palabra que había hablado, por Ahías silonita, a Jeroboam hijo de Nabat.

^10:16Y viendo todo Israel que el rey no les había oído, respondió el pueblo al rey, diciendo, “¿Qué parte tenemos nosotros con David? No tenemos herencia en el hijo de Isaí. ¡Israel, cada uno a sus tiendas! ¡David, mira ahora por tu casa!”. Así se fue todo Israel a sus tiendas. ^10:17Pero reinó Roboam sobre los hijos de Israel que habitaban en las ciudades de Judá.

^10:18Envió luego el rey Roboam a Adoram, que tenía cargo de los tributos; pero le apedrearon los hijos de Israel, y murió. Entonces el rey Roboam se apresuró para subir a un carro y huir a Jerusalén. ^10:19Así se apartó Israel de la casa de David hasta hoy.

^11:1Y cuando Roboam vino a Jerusalén, juntó la casa de Judá y de Benjamín, ciento ochenta mil hombres, guerreros escogidos, para pelear contra Israel y volver el reino a Roboam.

^11:2Pero vino Palabra de Jehová a Semaías varón de Dios, diciendo, ^11:3“Habla a Roboam hijo de Salomón, rey de Judá, y a todos los israelitas en Judá y Benjamín, diciendo, ^11:4‘Así dice Jehová: No subáis ni peleéis contra vuestros hermanos; vuélvase cada uno a su casa: porque yo he hecho esto’”. Y oyeron la Palabra de Jehová, y se volvieron, y no fueron contra Jeroboam.

§El complemento   Cuerpo: Cuando los reyes y las personas de Sión confiaban en Jehová, ganaban sus batallas; cuando no, perdieron (2 Crónicas 11:5 - 14:15)

¶Lo opuesto   Roboam construyó su Reino y lo hizo militar y espiritualmente fuerte (2 Crónicas 11:5 - 23)

^11:5Y habitó Roboam en Jerusalén, y edificó ciudades para fortificar a Judá. ^11:6Y edificó a Belén, a Etam, a Tecoa, ^11:7a Bet-zur, a Soco, a Adulam, ^11:8a Gat, a Maresa, a Zif, ^11:9a Adoraim, a Laquis, a Azeca, ^11:10a Zora, a Ajalón y a Hebrón, que eran ciudades fortificadas en Judá y en Benjamín. ^11:11Reforzó también las fortalezas, y puso en ellas capitanes, y provisiones, vino y aceite. ^11:12Y en todas las ciudades, puso escudos y lanzas. Las fortificó, pues, en gran manera, y Judá y Benjamín le estaban sujetos.

^11:13Y los sacerdotes y levitas que estaban en todo Israel, se pasaron a él de todos sus términos: ^11:14porque los levitas dejaban sus ejidos y sus posesiones, y se venían a Judá y a Jerusalén; pues Jeroboam y sus hijos los habían excluido del ministerio de Jehová. ^11:15Y él se hizo sacerdotes para los lugares altos, y para los demonios, y para los becerros que él había hecho.

^11:16Tras aquéllos acudieron también de todas las tribus de Israel los que habían puesto su corazón en buscar a Jehová Dios de Israel; y se vinieron a Jerusalén para ofrecer sacrificios a Jehová, el Dios de sus padres. ^11:17Así fortificaron el reino de Judá, y confirmaron a Roboam hijo de Salomón, por tres años: porque tres años anduvieron en el camino de David y de Salomón.

^11:18Y se tomó Roboam por esposa a Mahalat, hija de Jerimot hijo de David, y a Abihail, hija de Eliab hijo de Isaí. ^11:19La cual le dio a luz estos hijos; Jeús, Semarías, y Zaham. ^11:20Después de ella tomó a Maaca hija de Absalón, la cual le dio a luz Abías, Atai, Ziza, y Selomit. ^11:21Pero Roboam amó a Maaca hija de Absalón sobre todas sus esposas y concubinas: porque tomó dieciocho esposas y sesenta concubinas, y engendró veintiocho hijos y sesenta hijas. ^11:22Y puso Roboam a Abías hijo de Maaca por cabeza y príncipe de sus hermanos: porque quería hacerle rey.

^11:23Y actuó con astucia, y esparció a todos sus hijos por todas las tierras de Judá y de Benjamín, y por todas las ciudades fortificadas, y les dio víveres en abundancia, y pidió muchas esposas.

¶Lo opuesto   Roboam abandonó la Ley de Jehová y se hizo siervo del rey de Egipto (2 Crónicas 12:1 - 16)

^12:1Y sucedió que cuando Roboam se fortaleció y afirmó el reino, dejó la Ley de Jehová, y con él todo Israel.

^12:2Y sucedió que en el quinto año del rey Roboam subió Sisac rey de Egipto contra Jerusalén (por cuanto se habían rebelado contra Jehová), ^12:3con mil doscientos carros, y con sesenta mil hombres de a caballo; pero el pueblo que venía con él de Egipto, no tenía número; es decir, los libios, los suquienos y los Etíopes. ^12:4Y tomó las ciudades fortificadas de Judá, y llegó hasta Jerusalén.

^12:5Entonces vino Semaías Profeta a Roboam y a los príncipes de Judá, que estaban reunidos en Jerusalén por causa de Sisac, y les dijo, “Así dice Jehová, ‘Ustedes me habéis dejado, y yo también os he dejado en manos de Sisac’”. ^12:6Y los príncipes de Israel y el rey se humillaron, y dijeron, “Justo es Jehová”. ^12:7Y como vio Jehová que se habían humillado, vino Palabra de Jehová a Semaías, diciendo, “Se han humillado; no los destruiré; antes los salvaré en breve, y no se derramará mi ira contra Jerusalén por mano de Sisac. ^12:8Pero serán sus siervos; para que sepan qué es servirme a mí, y servir a los reinos de las naciones”.

^12:9Subió, pues, Sisac rey de Egipto a Jerusalén, y tomó los tesoros de la Casa de Jehová, y los tesoros de la casa del rey: todo lo llevó; y tomó los escudos de oro que Salomón había hecho. ^12:10Y en lugar de ellos hizo el rey Roboam escudos de bronce, y los entregó en manos de los jefes de la guardia, los cuales custodiaban la entrada de la casa del rey. ^12:11Y cuando el rey iba a la Casa de Jehová, venían los de la guardia, y los traían, y después los volvían a la cámara de la guardia. ^12:12Y como él se humilló, la ira de Jehová se apartó de él, para no destruirlo del todo; y también en Judá las cosas fueron bien. ^12:13Y Roboam se fortaleció en Jerusalén, y reinó; y era Roboam de cuarenta y un años cuando comenzó a reinar, y diecisiete años reinó en Jerusalén, ciudad que escogió Jehová de todas las tribus de Israel, para poner en ella su Nombre. Y el nombre de su madre fue Naama amonita. ^12:14E hizo lo malo: porque no dispuso su corazón para buscar a Jehová.

^12:15Y los hechos de Roboam, primeros y postreros, ¿no están escritos en los libros del Profeta Semaías y del vidente Iddo, según las genealogías? Y entre Roboam y Jeroboam hubo perpetua guerra. ^12:16Y durmió Roboam con sus padres, y fue sepultado en la ciudad de David. Y reinó en su lugar Abías su hijo.

¶El complemento   El rey Abías le advirtió a Jeroboam y a su gran ejército que no solo estaban luchando contra él, sino contra Jehová (2 Crónicas 13:1 - 12)

^13:1A los dieciocho años del rey Jeroboam, reinó Abías sobre Judá: ^13:2y reinó tres años en Jerusalén. El nombre de su madre fue Micaía hija de Uriel de Gabaa.

Y hubo guerra entre Abías y Jeroboam: ^13:3y ordenó Abías batalla con un ejército de cuatrocientos mil hombres de guerra, valerosos y escogidos. Y Jeroboam ordenó batalla contra él con ochocientos mil hombres escogidos, fuertes y valerosos. ^13:4Y se levantó Abías sobre el monte de Zemaraim, que es en los montes de Efraín, y dijo, “¡Oídme, Jeroboam y todo Israel! ^13:5¿No sabéis ustedes, que Jehová Dios de Israel dio el reino a David sobre Israel para siempre, a él y a sus hijos mediante Pacto de sal?

^13:6Pero Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, siervo de Salomón hijo de David, se levantó y se rebeló contra su señor. ^13:7Y se unieron a él unos hombres vanos, hijos de Belial, y pudieron más que Roboam hijo de Salomón: porque Roboam era joven y tierno de corazón, y no pudo defenderse de ellos.

^13:8Y ahora ustedes tratáis de fortificaros contra el reino de Jehová en mano de los hijos de David: porque sois muchos, y tenéis con ustedes los becerros de oro que Jeroboam os hizo por dioses. ^13:9¿No echasteis ustedes a los sacerdotes de Jehová, a los hijos de Aarón, y a los levitas, y os habéis hecho sacerdotes a la manera de los pueblos de otras tierras, para que cualquiera venga a consagrarse con un becerro y siete carneros, y así sea sacerdote de los que no son dioses?

^13:1Pero en cuanto a nosotros, Jehová es nuestro Dios, y no le hemos dejado; y los sacerdotes que ministran a Jehová son los hijos de Aarón, y los levitas en la obra; ^13:11los cuales queman para Jehová los holocaustos cada mañana y cada tarde, y el incienso aromático; y ponen los panes sobre la mesa limpia, y el candelero de oro con sus candilejas para que ardan cada tarde: porque nosotros guardamos la ordenanza de Jehová nuestro Dios; pero ustedes le habéis dejado. ^13:12¡Y he aquí Dios está con nosotros por cabeza, y sus sacerdotes con las trompetas del júbilo para que suenen contra ustedes. Oh hijos de Israel, no peleéis contra Jehová el Dios de vuestros padres: porque no os irá bien!”.

¶El complemento   Dios hirió a Jeroboam y su ejército ante el rey Abías y el ejército de Judá (2 Crónicas 13:13 - 14:1a)

^13:13Pero Jeroboam hizo girar una emboscada para venir a ellos por la retaguardia, y estando así delante de ellos, la emboscada estaba a espaldas de Judá. ^13:14Y como miró Judá, he aquí que tenía batalla delante y a las espaldas; por lo que clamaron a Jehová, y los sacerdotes tocaron las trompetas.

^13:15Entonces los hombres de Judá alzaron grito; y como los hombres de Judá gritaron, aconteció que Dios hirió Jeroboam y todo Israel delante de Abías y de Judá.

^13:16Y huyeron los hijos de Israel delante de Judá, y Dios los entregó en sus manos. ^13:17Y Abías y su gente hacían en ellos gran mortandad; y cayeron heridos de Israel quinientos mil hombres escogidos.

^13:18Así fueron humillados los hijos de Israel en aquel tiempo, y los hijos de Judá prevalecieron: porque se apoyaban en Jehová el Dios de sus padres. ^13:19Y siguió Abías a Jeroboam, y le tomó algunas ciudades, a Betel con sus aldeas, a Jesana con sus aldeas, y a Efraín con sus aldeas. ^13:20Y nunca más tuvo Jeroboam poderío en los días de Abías; y le hirió Jehová, y murió.

^13:21Pero Abías se fortificó; y tomó catorce esposas, y engendró veintidós hijos, y dieciséis hijas. ^13:22Lo demás de los hechos de Abías, sus caminos y sus dichos, están escritos en la historia del Profeta Iddo. ^14:1Y durmió Abías con sus padres, y fue sepultado en la ciudad de David. Y reinó en su lugar su hijo Asa.

¶Único   Jehová hirió al vasto ejército etíope ante el ejército mucho más pequeño de Judá y Benjamín bajo el rey Asa (2 Crónicas 14:1b - 15)

En cuyos días tuvo sosiego el país por diez años. ^14:2Y Asa hizo lo bueno y lo recto ante los ojos de Jehová su Dios: ^14:3porque quitó los altares de los dioses extraños, y los lugares altos; quebró los ídolos, y destruyó las imágenes de Asera; ^14:4y mandó a Judá que buscase a Jehová el Dios de sus padres, y pusiese por obra la Ley y sus Mandamientos. ^14:5Quitó asimismo de todas las ciudades de Judá los lugares altos y las imágenes, y el reino estuvo quieto delante de él.

^14:6Y edificó ciudades fortificadas en Judá, por cuanto había paz en la tierra, y no había guerra contra él en aquellos años: porque Jehová le había dado reposo. ^14:7Dijo por tanto a Judá, “Edifiquemos estas ciudades, y cerquémoslas de muros con torres, puertas y barras, ya que la tierra es nuestra: porque hemos buscado a Jehová nuestro Dios, le hemos buscado, y él nos ha dado reposo de todas partes”. Edificaron, pues, y fueron prosperados.

^14:8Tuvo también Asa ejército que traía escudos y lanzas; de Judá trescientos mil, y de Benjamín doscientos ochenta mil que traían escudos y entesaban arcos; todos eran hombres valerosos. ^14:9Y salió contra ellos Zera etíope con un ejército de mil millares, y trescientos carros; y vino hasta Maresa.

^14:10Entonces salió Asa contra él, y ordenaron la batalla en el valle de Sefata junto a Maresa. ^14:11Y clamó Asa a Jehová su Dios, y dijo, “¡Jehová, no es gran cosa para ti ayudar al poderoso así como al que no tiene fuerza; ayúdanos, oh Jehová Dios nuestro: porque en ti nos apoyamos, y en tu Nombre venimos contra este ejército! ¡Oh Jehová, tú eres nuestro Dios; no prevalezca contra ti el hombre!”.

^14:12Y Jehová deshizo a los Etíopes delante de Asa y delante de Judá; y huyeron los Etíopes. ^14:13Y Asa, y el pueblo que con él estaba, lo siguió hasta Gerar; y cayeron los Etíopes hasta no quedar en ellos aliento: porque fueron deshechos delante de Jehová y de su ejército. Y les tomaron muy grande botín. ^14:14Y derrotaron también a todas las ciudades de alrededor de Gerar: porque el terror de Jehová vino sobre ellos; y saquearon todas las ciudades: porque había en ellas gran botín. ^14:15También destruyeron las cabañas de los ganados, y se llevaron muchas ovejas y camellos, y volvieron a Jerusalén.

§Único   Conclusión: El rey Asa condujo al Reino de Judá a un gran avivamiento, pero se descarrió desde Dios al final de su vida (2 Crónicas 15:1 - 16:14)

¶El complemento   Asa llevó a su Reino a un avivamiento de fe y obediencia a Jehová (2 Crónicas 15:1 - 19)

^15:1“Y el Espíritu de Dios vino sobre Azarías hijo de Oded; ^15:2y salió al encuentro a Asa, y le dijo, “Oídme, Asa, y todo Judá y Benjamín: Jehová está con ustedes, mientras ustedes están con él; y si le buscareis, ustedes le hallarán; pero si ustedes le abandonan, él los abandonará a ustedes.

^15:3“Muchos días ha estado Israel sin verdadero Dios y sin sacerdote que enseñe, y sin Ley. ^15:4Pero cuando en su tribulación se convirtieron a Jehová Dios de Israel, y le buscaron, él fue hallado de ellos. ^15:5En aquellos tiempos no hubo paz, ni para el que entraba, ni para el que salía, sino muchas aflicciones sobre todos los habitantes de las tierras. ^15:6Y una nación destruía a la otra, y una ciudad a otra ciudad: porque Dios los turbó con toda clase de calamidades. ^15:7Pero esforzaos ustedes, y no desfallezcan vuestras manos; que recompensa hay para vuestra obra”.

^15:8Y cuando Asa oyó estas palabras y la profecía del Profeta Oded, cobró ánimo, y quitó los ídolos abominables de toda la tierra de Judá y de Benjamín, y de las ciudades que él había tomado en el monte de Efraín; y reparó el altar de Jehová que estaba delante del pórtico de Jehová.

^15:9Y reunió a todo Judá y Benjamín, y con ellos a los extranjeros de Efraín, de Manasés y de Simeón: porque muchos de Israel se habían pasado a él, viendo que Jehová su Dios era con él. ^15:10Se reunieron, pues, en Jerusalén en el mes tercero del año decimoquinto del reinado de Asa. ^15:11Y en aquel mismo día ofrecieron sacrificios a Jehová, del botín que habían traído, setecientos bueyes y siete mil ovejas. ^15:12E hicieron pacto de que buscarían a Jehová el Dios de sus padres, con todo su corazón y con toda su alma; ^15:13y que cualquiera que no buscase a Jehová el Dios de Israel, muriese, grande o pequeño, hombre o mujer. ^15:14Y lo juraron a Jehová con gran voz y júbilo, a son de trompetas y de bocinas. ^15:15Y todos los de Judá se alegraron de este juramento: porque de todo su corazón lo juraban, y de toda su voluntad lo buscaban; y fue hallado de ellos; y Jehová les dio reposo por todas partes.

^15:16Y aun a Maaca madre del rey Asa, él mismo la quitó de ser reina: porque había hecho una imagen de Asera; y Asa deshizo la imagen, y la desmenuzó, y la quemó junto al torrente de Cedrón. ^15:17Pero con todo eso los lugares altos no eran quitados de Israel, aunque el corazón de Asa fue perfecto en todos sus días. ^15:18Y trajo a la Casa de Dios lo que su padre había dedicado, y lo que él había consagrado, plata, oro y utensilios. ^15:19Y no hubo más guerra hasta los treinta y cinco años del reinado de Asa.

¶El complemento   Asa se volvió de Jehová cerca del final de su vida (2 Crónicas 16:1 - 14)

^16:1En el año treinta y seis del reinado de Asa, subió Baasa rey de Israel contra Judá, y edificó a Ramá, para no dejar salir ni entrar a ninguno al rey Asa, rey de Judá. ^16:2Entonces sacó Asa la plata y el oro de los tesoros de la Casa de Jehová y de la casa real, y envió a Benadad rey de Siria, que estaba en Damasco, diciendo, ^16:3“Haya alianza entre tú y yo, como la hubo entre mi padre y tu padre; he aquí yo te he enviado plata y oro, para que vengas y deshagas la alianza que tienes con Baasa rey de Israel, a fin de que se retire de mí”. ^16:4Y consintió Benadad con el rey Asa, y envió los capitanes de sus ejércitos a la ciudades de Israel; y derrotaron a Ahión, Dan, y Abel-maim, y las ciudades de abastecimiento de Neftalí.

^16:5Y sucedió que cuando Baasa lo oyó, cesó de edificar a Ramá, y dejó su obra. ^16:6Entonces el rey Asa tomó a todo Judá, y se llevaron de Ramá la piedra y madera con que Baasa edificaba, y con ella edificó a Geba y Mizpa.

^16:7En aquel tiempo vino Hanani vidente a Asa rey de Judá, y le dijo, “Por cuanto te has apoyado en el rey de Siria, y no te apoyaste en Jehová tu Dios, por eso el ejército del rey de Siria ha escapado de tus manos. ^16:8Los Etíopes y los libios, ¿no eran un ejército numerosísimo, con carros y mucha gente de a caballo? Con todo: porque te apoyaste en Jehová, él los entregó en tus manos: ^16:9porque los ojos de Jehová contemplan toda la tierra, para mostrarse poderoso a los que tienen corazón perfecto para con él. Locamente has hecho en esto: porque de aquí en adelante habrá guerras contra ti”.

^16:10Y enojado Asa contra el vidente, lo echó en la casa de la cárcel: porque se encolerizó en extremo a causa de esto. Y oprimió Asa en aquel tiempo a algunos del pueblo.

^16:11Pero he aquí, los hechos de Asa, primeros y postreros, están escritos en el libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel. ^16:12Y en el año treinta y nueve de su reinado Asa enfermó de sus pies; y su enfermedad fue muy grave, pero aun en su enfermedad no buscó a Jehová, sino a los médicos. ^16:13Y durmió Asa con sus padres, y murió en el año cuarenta y uno de su reinado. ^16:14Y lo sepultaron en sus sepulcros que él había hecho para sí en la ciudad de David; y lo pusieron en un ataúd, el cual llenaron de perfumes y diversas especias aromáticas, preparadas por expertos perfumistas; e hicieron un gran fuego en su honor.
