Acts, Chapter 1.2: The Sanhedrin violently rejected the Gospel of Jesus Christ from the Apostles (3:1 - 42)

Introduction: God used a miracle to open a door for Peter and John to preach the Gospel to a large crowd of Jews (3:1 - 11)

¶Opposite   A disabled man asked Peter and John for a gift as they were going into the Temple (3:1 - 5)

¶Opposite   God healed the disabled man, providing an opportunity for Peter and John to preach the Gospel to the people in the area (3:6 - 11)

Body: The Sanhedrin Council of Jews vainly attempted to stop the preaching of the Gospel in Jerusalem (3:12 - 5:16)

¶Opposite   Peter indicted the Jews for their participation in the execution of their own Christ (3:12 - 16)

¶Opposite   Peter called the Jews to repentance and faith in the resurrected Christ (3:17 - 4:4)

^3:1Now Peter and John went up together into the Temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.

^3:2And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried there; whom they laid daily at the gate of the Temple which is called Beautiful, to ask charity from them that entered into the Temple.

^3:3Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the Temple repeatedly asked for a gift.

^3:4And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, “Look at us!”

^3:5And he gave heed to them, expecting to receive something from them.

¶Opposite   God healed the disabled man,  providing an opportunity for Peter and John to preach the Gospel to the people in the area (3:6 - 11)

^3:6Then Peter said, “Silver and gold, I have none; but such as I have, I give you: in the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” ^3:7And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up.

And immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength; ^3:8and he, leaping up, stood and walked, and entered with them into the Temple: walking and leaping, and praising God.

^3:9And all the people saw him walking and praising God; ^3:10and they knew that it was he who sat for charity at the Beautiful gate of the Temple.

And they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened to him.

^3:11And as the lame man who was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together to them in the porch that is called Solomon’s, greatly wondering.

§Complement    Body: The Sanhedrin Council of Jews vainly attempted to stop the preaching of the Gospel in Jerusalem (3:12 - 5:16)

¶Opposite   Peter indicted the Jews for their participation in the execution of their own Christ (3:12 - 16)

^3:12And when Peter saw this, he answered to the people, “You men of Israel, why do you marvel at this? Or why do you look so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we made this man to walk?

^3:13“The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his Son Jesus; whom you delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go.

^3:14“But you denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted to you.”

^3:15“And you killed the Prince of life, whom God has raised from the dead: whereof we are witnesses.

^3:16“And his Name through faith in his Name has made this man strong, whom you see and know. Moreover, the faith which is by him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.”

¶Opposite   Peter called the Jews to repentance and faith in the resurrected Christ (3:17 - 4:4)

^3:17“And now, brethren, I know that through ignorance you did it, as did also your rulers.

^3:18“But those things, which God before has shown by the mouth of all his Prophets, that Christ should suffer, he has so fulfilled; ^3:19therefore repent, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, that the times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord; ^3:20and he shall send Jesus Christ, who before was preached to you; ^3:21whom the Heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all his holy Prophets since the world began.”

^3:22“For Moses truly said to the fathers, ‘A Prophet shall [Jehovah] your God raise up to you of your brethren, like me: him shall you hear in all things whatsoever he shall say to you. ^3:23And it shall come to pass, that every soul, who will not hear that Prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.’

^3:24“Indeed, and all the Prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days. ^3:25You are the children of the Prophets, and of the Covenant which God made with our fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.’ ^3:26Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.”

^4:1And as they spoke to the people, the priests, the captain of the Temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them, ^4:2being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead. ^4:3And they laid hands on them; and they put them in hold until the next day: for it was now evening. ^4:4Nevertheless many of them who heard the Word believed, and the number of the men was about five thousand.

¶Complement   The Sanhedrin Council of Jews commanded Peter and John not to speak anymore in the Name of Jesus (4:5 - 22)

^4:5And it came to pass on the next day, that their rulers and elders and scribes, ^4:6and Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the relatives of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem. ^4:7And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, “By what power, or by what name, have you done this?”

^4:8Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “You rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, ^4:9if we this day are examined of the good deed done to the helpless man, by what means he is made whole, ^4:10be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him does this man stand here before you whole. ^4:11This is the Stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the head of the corner. ^4:12Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is no other Name under Heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

^4:13Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and ordinary men, they marveled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus. ^4:14And beholding the man who was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it. ^4:15But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves, ^4:16saying, “What shall we do to these men? For that indeed a notable miracle has been done by them is plain to all them that dwell in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. ^4:17But, so that it spreads no further among the people, let us strictly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name.”

^4:18And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the Name of Jesus. ^4:19But Peter and John answered and said to them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge: ^4:20for we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.”

^4:21So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done: ^4:22for the man was over forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing was shown.

¶Complement   The Apostles prayed for the power and protection of the Holy Spirit (4:23 - 31)

^4:23And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said to them.

^4:24And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, “Lord, you are the true God; who have made Heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is; ^4:25who by the mouth of your servant David has said, ‘Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things? ^4:26The kings of the earth stood up, and rulers conspire together against [Jehovah], and against his Christ.’ ^4:27For truly against your holy child Jesus, whom you have anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together, ^4:28to do whatsoever your hand and your counsel determined before to be done.

^4:29“And now, Lord, behold their threats; and grant to your servants, that with all boldness they may speak your Word, ^4:30by stretching forth your hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the Name of your holy child Jesus.”

^4:31And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together.

And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the Word of God with boldness.

¶Unique   The Holy Spirit slew Ananias and Sapphira at the word of Peter for attempting to corrupt the Assembly in Jerusalem (4:32 - 5:16)

^4:32And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul; neither did any of them say that any of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.

^4:33And with great power gave the Apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus; and great grace was upon them all.

^4:34Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, ^4:35and laid them down at the Apostles’ feet; and distribution was made to every man according as he had need. ^4:36And Joses, who by the Apostles was surnamed Barnabas (which is, being interpreted, “The son of encouragement”), a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus, ^4:37having land, sold it; and he brought the money, and laid it at the Apostles’ feet.

^5:1But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, ^5:2and kept back part of the price, his wife also being aware of it; and he brought a certain part, and laid it at the Apostles’ feet. ^5:3But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back part of the price of the land? ^5:4While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own power? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men, but to God.” ^5:5And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the spirit; and great fear came on all them that heard these things. ^5:6And the young men arose, wrapped him up, and carried him out, and buried him. ^5:7And it was about the space of three hours later, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in. ^5:8And Peter answered to her, “Tell me whether you sold the land for so much?” And she said, “Yes, for so much.” ^5:9Then Peter said to her, “Why is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of them who have buried your husband are at the door, and shall carry you out.” ^5:10Then immediately she fell down at his feet, and yielded up the spirit; and the young men came in and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband. ^5:11And great fear came upon all the Assembly, and upon as many as heard these things.

^5:12And by the hands of the Apostles were many signs and wonders performed among the people, and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch. ^5:13And of the rest no man dared join himself to them; but the people magnified them. ^5:14And believers were increasingly added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women, ^5:15insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them. ^5:16Also a multitude came out of the cities round about to Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them who were vexed with unclean spirits; and they were healed every one.

^5:19But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said, ^5:20“Go; stand and speak in the Temple to the people all the words of this Life.” ^5:21And when they heard that, they entered into the Temple early in the morning, and taught.

But the high priest came, and they that were with him; and called the Council together, and all the Senate of the children of Israel; and they sent to the prison to have them brought. ^5:22But when the officers came, and did not find them in the prison, they returned, and reported, ^5:23saying, “Truly we found the prison shut with all safety; and the guards standing outside before the doors; but when we had opened it, we found no man within.” ^5:24Now when the high priest and the captain of the Temple and the chief priests heard these things, they wondered of them where this would grow.

^5:25Then one came and told them, saying, “Behold, the men whom you put in prison are standing in the Temple, and teaching the people.”

^5:26Then the captain went with the officers; and brought them without violence: for they were afraid of the people, lest they should be stoned. ^5:27And when they had brought them, they set them before the council.

¶Complement   The Sanhedrin released the Apostles after beating them and commanding them not to speak in the Name of Jesus (5:27b - 42)

And the high priest asked them, ^5:28saying, “Did not we strictly command you that you should not teach in this Name? And, behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.” ^5:29Then Peter and the other Apostles answered and said, “We should obey God rather than men. ^5:30The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you slew and hung on a tree. ^5:31Him has God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Savior, to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. ^5:32And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to them that obey him.”

^5:33When they heard that, they were convicted in their hearts; and they took counsel to slay them. ^5:34Then one stood up in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the Law, had in reputation among all the people; and he commanded to put the Apostles forth a little space. ^5:35And he said to them, “You men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what you intend to do as regarding these men: ^5:36for before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody: to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves; who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nothing. ^5:37After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away many people after him; he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed. ^5:38And now I say to you, refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work is of men, it will come to nothing; ^5:39but if it is of God, you cannot overthrow it: lest perhaps you are found even to fight against God.”

^5:40And to him they agreed; and when they had called the Apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the Name of Jesus, and let them go.

^5:41And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his Name.

^5:42And daily in the Temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

^3:16“Y por la fe en su Nombre, a éste, que ustedes veis y conocéis, en su Nombre le ha confirmado; además, la fe que por él es, le ha dado esta completa sanidad en presencia de todos ustedes”.

¶Lo opuesto   Pedro llamó a los judíos al arrepentimiento y la fe en el Cristo resucitado (3:17 - 4:4)

^3:17“Y ahora, hermanos, yo sé que por ignorancia lo habéis hecho, como también vuestros príncipes.

^3:18“Pero Dios ha cumplido así lo que había antes anunciado por boca de todos sus Profetas, que Cristo había de padecer; ^3:19así que, arrepentíos y convertíos, para que sean borrados vuestros pecados; para que vengan tiempos de refrigerio de la presencia del Señor; ^3:20y él envíe a Jesús Cristo, que os fue antes predicado; ^3:21a quien ciertamente es necesario que el Cielo reciba hasta los tiempos de la restauración de todas las cosas, de que habló Dios por boca de todos sus santos Profetas que han sido desde el principio del mundo”.

^3:22“Porque Moisés en verdad dijo a los padres, ‘El Señor vuestro Dios os levantará Profeta de vuestros hermanos, como yo; a él oiréis en todas las cosas que os hablare. ^3:23Y será, que toda alma que no oyere a aquel Profeta, será desarraigada del pueblo’.

^3:24“Sí, y todos los Profetas desde Samuel y en adelante, cuantos han hablado, también han predicho estos días. ^3:25Ustedes sois los hijos de los Profetas, y del Pacto que Dios hizo con nuestros padres, diciendo a Abraham, ‘Y en tu simiente serán benditas todas las familias de la tierra’. ^3:26A ustedes primeramente, Dios, habiendo resucitado a su Hijo Jesús, le envió para que os bendijese, al convertirse cada uno de su maldad”.

^4:1Y mientras hablaban a la gente, los sacerdotes y el magistrado del Templo y los saduceos, vinieron sobre ellos, ^4:2resentidos de que enseñasen al pueblo, y predicasen en Jesús la resurrección de los muertos. ^4:3Y les echaron mano, y los pusieron en la cárcel hasta el día siguiente: porque era ya tarde. ^4:4Pero muchos de los que habían oído la Palabra creyeron; y el número de los varones era como cinco mil.

^4:8Entonces Pedro, lleno del Espíritu Santo, les dijo, “Príncipes del pueblo, y ancianos de Israel: ^4:9puesto que hoy se nos interroga acerca del beneficio hecho a un hombre enfermo, de qué manera éste haya sido sanado; ^4:10sea notorio a todos ustedes, y a todo el pueblo de Israel, que por el Nombre de Jesús Cristo de Nazaret, al que ustedes crucificasteis y a quien Dios resucitó de los muertos, por él este hombre está sano en vuestra presencia. ^4:11Esta Jesús es la Piedra que fue rechazada por ustedes constructores, cual se ha convertido en la cabeza de la esquina. ^4:12Tampoco hay salvación en ningún otro: porque no hay otro Nombre bajo del Cielo, dado a los hombres, por cual debemos ser salvados”.

^4:13Entonces viendo el denuedo de Pedro y de Juan, y sabiendo que eran hombres sin letras e ignorantes, se maravillaban; y les reconocían que habían estado con Jesús. ^4:14Y viendo al hombre que había sido sanado, que estaba de pie con ellos, no podían decir nada en contra. ^4:15Y habiendo ordenado que salieran del concilio, deliberaban entre sí, ^4:16diciendo, “¿Qué haremos con estos hombres? Porque de cierto, un milagro notable ha sido hecho por ellos, manifiesto a todos los que moran en Jerusalén, y no lo podemos negar. ^4:17Sin embargo para que no se divulgue más por el pueblo, amenacémosles, para que no hablen de aquí en adelante a hombre alguno en este Nombre”.

^4:18Y llamándolos, les intimaron que en ninguna manera hablasen ni enseñasen en el Nombre de Jesús. ^4:19Pero Pedro y Juan, respondiendo, les dijeron, “Juzgad si es justo delante de Dios obedecer a ustedes antes que a Dios: ^4:20porque no podemos dejar de decir lo que hemos visto y oído”.

^4:21Y después de amenazarles más, y no hallando nada de qué castigarles, les dejaron ir por causa del pueblo: porque todos glorificaban a Dios por lo que había sido hecho: ^4:22porque el hombre en quien había sido hecho este milagro de sanidad, tenía más de cuarenta años.

^4:24Y ellos, habiéndolo oído, alzaron unánimes la voz a Dios, y dijeron, “Señor, tú eres Dios verdadero, que hiciste el Cielo y la tierra, el mar y todo lo que en ellos hay; ^4:25quien por boca de David, tu siervo, dijiste, ‘¿Por qué se amotinan las gentes, y los pueblos piensan cosas vanas? ^4:26Se levantaron los reyes de la tierra, y los príncipes conspiran juntos contra Jehová, y contra su Cristo’. ^4:27Pues verdaderamente se juntaron contra tu santo Hijo Jesús, a quien tú ungiste, Herodes y Poncio Pilato, con los Gentiles y el pueblo de Israel, ^4:28para hacer lo que tu mano y tu consejo habían predeterminado que se hiciese.

^4:29“Y ahora, Señor, mira sus amenazas, y concede a tus siervos que con todo denuedo hablen tu Palabra; ^4:30y extiende tu mano para que sanidades, y milagros y prodigios sean hechos por el Nombre de tu santo Hijo Jesús”.

^4:31Y cuando hubieron orado, el lugar en que estaban congregados tembló.

Y todos fueron llenos del Espíritu Santo, y hablaron la Palabra de Dios con denuedo.

¶Único   El Espíritu Santo mató a Ananías y Safira por la palabra de Pedro por intentar corromper a la Asamblea en Jerusalén (4:32 - 5:16)

^4:32Y la multitud de los que habían creído era de un corazón y un alma; y ninguno decía ser suyo propio lo que poseía, sino que tenían todas las cosas en común.

^4:33Y con gran poder los Apóstoles daban testimonio de la resurrección del Señor Jesús; y abundante gracia había sobre todos ellos.

^4:34Y ningún necesitado había entre ellos: porque todos los que poseían heredades o casas, las vendían, y traían el precio de lo vendido, ^4:35y lo ponían a los pies de los Apóstoles; y se repartía a cada uno según su necesidad. ^4:36Entonces José, a quien los Apóstoles pusieron por sobrenombre Bernabé (que interpretado es, “hijo de consolación”), Levita, natural de Chipre, ^4:37teniendo una heredad, la vendió, y trajo el precio y lo puso a los pies de los Apóstoles.

^5:1Pero un varón llamado Ananías, con Safira su esposa, vendió una heredad, ^5:2y retuvo parte del precio, sabiéndolo también su esposa; y trayendo una parte, la puso a los pies de los Apóstoles. ^5:3Y dijo Pedro, “Ananías, ¿por qué ha llenado Satanás tu corazón para que mintieses al Espíritu Santo, y defraudases del precio de la heredad? ^5:4Reteniéndola, ¿no se te quedaba a ti? Y vendida, ¿no estaba en tu poder? ¿Por qué pusiste esto en tu corazón? No has mentido a los hombres, sino a Dios”. ^5:5Entonces Ananías, oyendo estas palabras, cayó y expiró. Y vino gran temor sobre todos los que lo oyeron. ^5:6Y levantándose los jóvenes, lo envolvieron, y sacándolo, lo sepultaron. ^5:7Y pasado un lapso como de tres horas, entró también su esposa, no sabiendo lo que había acontecido. ^5:8Entonces Pedro le dijo, “Dime, ¿vendisteis en tanto la heredad?”. Y ella dijo, “Sí, en tanto”. ^5:9Y Pedro le dijo, “¿Por qué os pusisteis de acuerdo para tentar al Espíritu del Señor? He aquí a la puerta los pies de los que han sepultado a tu marido, y te sacarán a ti”. ^5:10Y al instante cayó a los pies de él, y expiró; y entrando los jóvenes, la hallaron muerta; y la sacaron, y la sepultaron junto a su marido. ^5:11Y vino gran temor sobre toda la Asamblea, y sobre todos los que oyeron estas cosas.

^5:12Y por mano de los Apóstoles eran hechos muchos milagros y prodigios en el pueblo; y estaban todos unánimes en el pórtico de Salomón. ^5:13Y de los demás, ninguno osaba juntarse con ellos; pero el pueblo los alababa grandemente. ^5:14Y más creyentes se añadían al Señor, multitudes, así de hombres como de mujeres; ^5:15tanto que sacaban los enfermos a las calles, y los ponían en camas y en lechos, para que al pasar Pedro, a lo menos su sombra cayese sobre alguno de ellos. ^5:16Y aun de las ciudades vecinas muchos venían a Jerusalén, trayendo enfermos y atormentados de espíritus inmundos; y todos eran sanados.

§El complemento   Conclusión: El Consejo de judíos del Sanedrín arrestó y golpeó a los apóstoles; y luego los liberó (5:17 - 42)

¶El complemento   El Sanedrín se sorprendió al descubrir que los apóstoles no estaban en prisión, sino que predicaban el evangelio de Cristo en el templo (5:17 - 27a)

^5:17Entonces se levantó el sumo sacerdote y todos los que estaban con él, que es la secta de los saduceos, y se llenaron de celos; ^5:18y echaron mano a los Apóstoles y los pusieron en la cárcel pública.

^5:19Pero el ángel del Señor abrió de noche las puertas de la cárcel, y sacándolos, dijo, ^5:20“Id, y puestos en pie en el Templo, hablad al pueblo todas las palabras de esta Vida”. ^5:21Y habiendo oído esto, entraron de mañana en el Templo, y enseñaban.

Pero el sumo sacerdote vinieron, y los que estaban con él; y convocaron al concilio y a todos los ancianos de los hijos de Israel, y enviaron a la cárcel para que fuesen traídos. ^5:22Pero cuando llegaron los oficiales, y no los hallaron en la cárcel, volvieron y dieron aviso, ^5:23diciendo, “De cierto, la cárcel hemos hallado cerrada con toda seguridad, y los guardas afuera de pie ante las puertas; pero cuando abrimos, a nadie hallamos dentro”. ^5:24Y cuando oyeron estas palabras el sumo sacerdote y el magistrado del Templo y los príncipes de los sacerdotes, dudaban en qué vendría a parar aquello.

^5:25Y viniendo uno, les dio la noticia, diciendo, “He aquí, los varones que echasteis en la cárcel están en el Templo, y enseñan al pueblo”.

^5:26Entonces fue el magistrado con los oficiales, y los trajo sin violencia: porque temían ser apedreados por el pueblo. ^5:27Y cuando los trajeron, los presentaron ante el concilio.

¶El complemento   El Sanedrín liberó a los Apóstoles después de golpearlos y les mandó que no hablaran en el Nombre de Jesús (5:27b - 42)

Y el sumo sacerdote les preguntó, ^5:28diciendo, “¿No os ordenamos rigurosamente, que no enseñaseis en este Nombre? Y he aquí, habéis llenado a Jerusalén con vuestra doctrina, y queréis echar sobre nosotros la sangre de este hombre”. ^5:29Respondiendo Pedro y los Apóstoles, dijeron, “Es necesario obedecer a Dios antes que a los hombres. ^5:30El Dios de nuestros padres resucitó a Jesús, al cual ustedes matasteis colgándole en un madero. ^5:31A éste, Dios ha exaltado con su diestra por Príncipe y Salvador, para dar a Israel arrepentimiento y perdón de pecados. ^5:32Y nosotros somos testigos suyos de estas cosas, y también el Espíritu Santo, el cual ha dado Dios a los que le obedecen”.

^5:33Cuando oyeron esto, fueron condenados en sus corazones, y tomaron consejo para matarlos. ^5:34Entonces levantándose en el concilio un fariseo llamado Gamaliel, doctor de la Ley, honorable ante todo el pueblo, mandó que hiciesen sacar por un momento a los Apóstoles, ^5:35y les dijo, “Varones Israelitas, mirad por ustedes lo que vais a hacer acerca de estos hombres: ^5:36porque antes de estos días se levantó Teudas, diciendo que era alguien; al que se agregó un número de como cuatrocientos hombres; el cual fue muerto, y todos los que le obedecían fueron dispersados y reducidos a nada. ^5:37Después de éste, se levantó Judas el Galileo, en los días del empadronamiento, y llevó en pos de sí a mucho pueblo. Éste también pereció; y todos los que le obedecían fueron dispersados. ^5:38Y ahora os digo: apartaos de estos hombres, y dejadlos: porque si este consejo o esta obra es de los hombres, se desvanecerá; ^5:39pero si es de Dios, no la podréis deshacer; no seáis tal vez hallados luchando contra Dios”.

^5:40Y convinieron con él; y llamando a los Apóstoles, después de azotarlos, les intimaron que no hablasen en el Nombre de Jesús, y los dejaron libres.

^5:41Y ellos partieron de la presencia del concilio, gozosos de haber sido tenidos por dignos de padecer afrenta por su Nombre.

^5:42Y todos los días, en el Templo y por las casas, no cesaban de enseñar y predicar a Jesús Cristo.
