^13:8But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by translation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the Faith.

^13:9Then Saul (who also is called Paul), filled with the Holy Spirit, set his eyes on him, ^13:10and said, “O full of all subtlety and all mischief, you son of the devil, enemy of all righteousness: will you not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?

^13:11And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you shall be blind, not seeing the sun for a season.” And immediately a mist and a darkness fell on him; and he went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand.

^13:12Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed in Christ, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.

^13:16Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, “Men of Israel, and you that fear God, give audience. ^13:17The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt; and with a high arm he brought them out of it. ^13:18And about the time of forty years he endured their manners in the wilderness. ^13:19And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, he divided their land to them by lot.

^13:20And after that he gave them judges about the space of four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the Prophet.

^13:21And afterward they asked for a king; and God gave to them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, by the space of forty years.

^13:22And when he had removed him, he raised up to them David to be their king: to whom also he gave testimony, and said, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after my own heart, who shall fulfill all my will.’ ^13:23Of this man’s seed has God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Savior, Jesus; ^13:24when John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. ^13:25And as John fulfilled his course, he said, ‘Whom do you think that I am? I am not he. But, behold, there is one coming after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.’

^13:30But God raised him from the dead! ^13:31And he was seen many days by them who came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses to the people. ^13:32And we declare to you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made to the fathers, ^13:33God has fulfilled the same to us their children, in that he has raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, ‘You are my Son, this day have I begotten you.’ ^13:34And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this manner, ‘I will give you the sure mercies of David.’ ^13:35Therefore he says also in another psalm, ‘You shall not allow your Holy One to see corruption.’ ^13:36For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption; ^13:37but he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.

^13:38Therefore be it known to you, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins; ^13:39and by him all that believe are justified from all sins, from which you could not be justified by the Law of Moses.

^13:40Therefore beware, lest that condemnation comes upon you, which is spoken of in the Prophets: ^13:41‘Behold, you despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which you shall never believe, though a man declares it to you.’”

^13:42And when the Jews went out of the synagogue, the Gentiles pleaded that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath. ^13:43And when the assembly was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.

^13:44And the next Sabbath day almost the entire city came together to hear the Word of God; ^13:45but when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy; and they spoke against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming.

^13:46Then Paul and Barnabas grew bold, and said, “It was necessary that the Word of God should first have been spoken to you; but seeing you put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of Everlasting Life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles: ^13:47for so has the Lord commanded us, saying, ‘I have set you to be a light of the Gentiles’, that you should be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.” ^13:48And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the Word of the Lord; and as many as had been appointed to Eternal Life believed.

^13:49And the Word of the Lord was published throughout all the region.

^13:50But the Jews stirred up the devout and honorable women, and the chief men of the city; and raised persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them out of their region; ^13:51but they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came to Iconium.

^13:52And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Spirit.

^14:3Therefore they stayed a long time speaking boldly in the Lord, who gave testimony to the Word of his grace; and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands.

^14:4But the multitude of the city was divided; and part held with the Jews, and part with the Apostles.

^14:5And when there was an assault made both of the Gentiles, and also of the Jews with their rulers, to use them spitefully, and to stone them, ^14:6they were aware of it, and fled to Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and to the region that lies round about; ^14:7and there they preached the Gospel.

^14:8And a certain man sat at Lystra, powerless in his feet, being a cripple from his mother’s womb, who had never walked. ^14:9The same heard Paul speak, who steadfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed, ^14:10said with a loud voice, “Stand upright on your feet!” And he leaped and walked. ^14:11And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, “The gods have come down to us in the likeness of men!” ^14:12And they called Barnabas, “Jupiter”; and Paul, “Mercury”, because he was the chief speaker. ^14:13Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people; ^14:14which when the Apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they tore their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out ^14:15and saying, “Men, why do you do these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach to you that you should turn from these vanities unto the living God, who made Heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are in it; ^14:16who in times past allowed all nations to walk in their own ways. ^14:17Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.” ^14:18And with these sayings they scarcely restrained the people, that they did not do sacrifice to them.

^14:19And certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium came there, who persuaded the people; and, having stoned Paul, they dragged him out of the city, supposing him to be dead. ^14:20Nevertheless, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city.

And the next day he went with Barnabas to Derbe; ^14:21and when they had preached the Gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and Iconium, and Antioch, ^14:22confirming the souls of the disciples: exhorting them to continue in the Faith, and that it was necessary for us to have entered into the Kingdom of God through much tribulation. ^14:23And when they had ordained them elders in every Assembly, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they had believed.

^14:24And after they had passed throughout Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia. ^14:25And when they had preached the Word in Perga, they went down into Attalia. ^14:26And from there, they sailed to Antioch, from where they had been recommended to the grace of God for the work which they had fulfilled.

^14:27And when they came, and had gathered the Assembly together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles. ^14:28And they remained there a long time with the disciples.

^15:3And being brought on their way by the Assembly, they passed through Phoenicia and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles; and they caused great joy to all the brethren. ^15:4And when they came to Jerusalem, they were received by the Assembly and the Apostles and elders; and they declared all things that God had done with them.

^15:5But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees who believed, saying that it was necessary to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the Law of Moses.

^15:6And the Apostles and elders came together to consider of this matter. ^15:7And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said to them, “Men, brethren: you know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the Word of the Gospel, and believe. ^15:8And God, who knows the hearts, bore them witness, giving them the Holy Spirit, even as he did unto us. ^15:9And he put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. ^15:10Now therefore why do you test God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? ^15:11But through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, we believe to be saved, even as they did.”

^15:12Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had done among the Gentiles by them.

^15:13And after they held their peace, James answered, saying, “Men, brethren: listen to me. ^15:14Simeon has declared how God at the first visited the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his Name. ^15:15And to this agree the words of the Prophets: as it is written, ^15:16‘‘After this will I return, and rebuild the Tabernacle of David, which has fallen down; and I will rebuild its ruins, and set it up, ^15:17that the rest of mankind might seek after the Lord, even all the Gentiles, upon whom my Name is called,’ says [Jehovah], ‘who does all these things.’’ ^15:18Known to God are all his works from Eternity.

^15:19“Therefore my decision is, that we do not trouble them that from among the Gentiles are turning to God; ^15:20but that we write to them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood: ^15:21for Moses of ancient generations has in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every Sabbath day.”

^15:22Then it pleased the Apostles and elders, with the whole Assembly, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas: namely, Judas surnamed Barsabas, and Silas, leading men among the brethren. ^15:23And they wrote a letter by them after this manner: “The Apostles and elders and brethren sends greeting to the brethren that are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia. ^15:24Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain who went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, ‘You must be circumcised, and keep the Law’ (to whom we gave no such command): ^15:25it seemed good to us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, ^15:26men that have hazarded their lives for the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ. ^15:27Therefore we have sent Judas and Silas, who shall also tell you the same things by mouth: ^15:28for it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things: ^15:29to abstain from food offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication; from which if you keep yourselves, you shall do well. Farewell.”

^15:30So when they were dismissed, they came to Antioch; and when they had gathered the multitude together, they delivered the letter, ^15:31which when they had read, they rejoiced for the encouragement. ^15:32And Judas and Silas, being Prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them.

^15:33And after they had stayed a while, they were let go in peace from the brethren unto the Apostles. ^15:34Notwithstanding it pleased Silas to remain there still. ^15:35Paul also and Barnabas continued in Antioch, teaching and preaching the Word of the Lord, with many others also.

^13:30¡Pero Dios le resucitó desde los muertos! ^13:31Y él fue visto muchos días por los quien subieron desde Galilea a Jerusalén, los cuales son sus testigos al pueblo. ^13:32Y declaramos a os las buenas nuevas, cómo que la promesa que se hizo a los padres, ^13:33Dios nos ha cumplido lo mismo a nosotros sus hijos, en que ha resucitado a Jesús de nuevo; como también en el salmo segundo está escrito, ‘Tu eres mi Hijo, este dia te he engendrado’. ^13:34Y en cuanto al hecho de que le resucitó desde entre los muertos, ya no más para volver a la corrupción, lo dijo así, ‘Os daré las misericordias seguras de David’. ^13:35Por lo tanto, él dice también en otro salmo, ‘No permitirás que tu Santo vea corrupción’. ^13:36Porque David, después de haber servido a su propia generación por la voluntad de Dios, se durmió y fue enterrado con sus padres y vio corrupción. ^13:37Pero él, a quien Dios resucitó, no vio corrupción.

^13:38Por lo tanto, deja que sea conocido a ustedes, varones y hermanos, que a través de este hombre os es predicado el perdón de pecados, ^13:39y por él todos los que creen son justificados desde todos los pecados, desde los cuales ustedes no podrían ser justificados por la ley de Moisés.

^13:40Por tanto, ten cuidado, para que no que venga sobre ti la condenación, de la que se habla en los Profetas, ^13:41‘He aquí ustedes despreciadores, maravillarse y pereced: porque hago una obra en vuestros días, una obra que nunca creeréis, aunque un hombre os la declare’.

^13:42Y cuando los judíos salieron de la sinagoga, los gentiles suplicaron que estas palabras podrían serles predicadas el próximo sábado. ^13:43Y cuando se disolvió la asamblea, muchos de los judíos y de los religiosos prosélitos siguieron a Pablo y a Bernabé; quienes, hablándoles, los persuadió a continuar en la gracia de Dios.

¶El complemento   La hostilidad de los judíos en Antioquía de Pisidia alentó a Pablo y a Bernabé a acercarse a los gentiles con el Evangelio en su lugar (13:44 - 52)

^13:44Y el Sábado siguiente se reunió casi toda la ciudad para oír la Palabra de Dios. ^13:45Pero cuando los judíos vieron las multitudes, se llenaron de celos, y se oponían a lo que Pablo decía, contradiciendo y blasfemando.

^13:46Entonces Pablo y Bernabé, tomando denuedo, dijeron, “A ustedes a la verdad era necesario que se os hablase primero la Palabra de Dios; pero ya que la desecháis, y os juzgáis indignos de la Vida Eterna, he aquí, nos volvemos a los Gentiles: ^13:47porque así nos ha mandado el Señor, diciendo, ‘Te he puesto por luz de los Gentiles’, para que seas para salvación hasta lo último de la tierra”. ^13:48Y los Gentiles oyendo esto, se regocijaban y glorificaban la Palabra del Señor; y todos los que habían sido designados para la Vida Eterna creyeron.

^13:49Y la Palabra del Señor era publicada por toda aquella región.

^13:50Pero los judíos instigaron a mujeres piadosas y honorables, y a los principales de la ciudad, y levantaron persecución contra Pablo y Bernabé, y los echaron de sus términos. ^13:51Ellos entonces sacudiendo contra ellos el polvo de sus pies, se fueron a Iconio.

^13:52Y los discípulos estaban llenos de gozo y del Espíritu Santo.

¶El complemento   La hostilidad de los judíos en Iconium eventualmente obligó a Paul y Barnabas a huir por sus vidas a Lystra y Derbe (14:1 - 7)

^14:1Y aconteció en Iconio que entraron juntos en la sinagoga de los judíos, y hablaron de tal manera que creyó una gran multitud así de judíos, como de griegos.

^14:2Pero los judíos que fueron incrédulos, incitaron y corrompieron los ánimos de los Gentiles contra los hermanos.

^14:3Con todo eso, ellos se detuvieron allí mucho tiempo, hablando con denuedo en el Señor, el cual daba testimonio a la Palabra de su gracia, concediendo que señales y milagros fuesen hechos por las manos de ellos.

^14:4Pero la gente de la ciudad estaba dividida; y unos estaban con los judíos, y otros con los Apóstoles.

^14:5Y cuando los judíos y los Gentiles, juntamente con sus príncipes, se arrojaron para afrentarlos y apedrearlos, ^14:6entendiéndolo ellos, huyeron a Listra y Derbe, ciudades de Licaonia, y por toda la tierra de alrededor. ^14:7Y allí predicaban el Evangelio.

¶Único   Después de pasar tiempo con las nuevas iglesias que habían plantado, Pablo y Bernabé regresaron a su hogar en la iglesia en Antioquía (14:8 - 28)

^14:8Y en Listra se hallaba sentado cierto hombre, impotente en sus pies, cojo desde el vientre de su madre, que jamás había andado. ^14:9Éste oyó hablar a Pablo; el cual, fijando sus ojos en él, y viendo que tenía fe para ser sanado, ^14:10dijo a gran voz, “¡Levántate derecho sobre tus pies!”. Y él saltó, y anduvo. ^14:11Y cuando la gente vio lo que Pablo había hecho, ellos levantaron sus voces, diciendo en lengua licaónica, “¡Los dioses han descendido a nosotros en semejanza de hombres!”. ^14:12Y a Bernabé llamaban Júpiter, y a Pablo, Mercurio: porque él era el principal orador ^14:13Entonces el sacerdote de Júpiter, que estaba delante de su ciudad, trajo bueyes y guirnaldas a las puertas, y habría hecho sacrificios con el pueblo. ^14:14Y cuando lo oyeron los Apóstoles Bernabé y Pablo, rasgando sus ropas, corrieron hacia la multitud, dando voces, ^14:15y diciendo, “Varones, ¿Por qué hacéis estas cosas? También somos hombres de pasiones similares a las tuyas, y os predicamos que ustedes deberíais alejarte de estas vanidades al Dios viviente, quien hizo el Cielo y la tierra, y el mar y todo cuanto en ellos hay; ^14:16quien, en tiempos pasados, permitió que todas las naciones caminaran en sus propios caminos; ^14:17sin embargo, no se dejó a sí mismo sin testimonio, en que hizo bien, y nos dio lluvias del cielo y tiempos fructíferos, llenando nuestros corazones con comida y alegría”. ^14:18Y diciendo estas cosas, apenas hicieron desistir al pueblo, para que no les ofreciesen sacrificio.

^14:19Entonces vinieron ciertos judíos de Antioquía y de Iconio, que persuadieron a la multitud, y habiendo apedreado a Pablo, le arrastraron fuera de la ciudad, pensando que estaba muerto. ^14:20Sin embargo, estando los discípulos a su alrededor, se levantó y entró en la ciudad.

Y al siguiente día, partió con Bernabé para Derbe. ^14:21Y habiendo predicado el Evangelio a aquella ciudad, y después de enseñar a muchos, volvieron a Listra, y a Iconio, y a Antioquía, ^14:22confirmando el alma de los discípulos, exhortándoles a que permaneciesen en la fe; y diciéndoles que es necesario que a través de muchas tribulaciones entremos en el Reino de Dios. ^14:23Y cuando les ordenaron ancianos en cada Asamblea, habiendo orado con ayunos, los encomendaron al Señor en quien habían creído.

^14:24Y habiendo pasado por Pisidia vinieron a Panfilia. ^14:25Y después de predicar la Palabra en Perge, descendieron a Atalia. ^14:26Y de allí navegaron a Antioquía, donde habían sido encomendados a la gracia de Dios para la obra que habían cumplido.

^14:27Y habiendo llegado, reuniendo la Asamblea, relataron todo lo que había hecho Dios con ellos, y de cómo había abierto la puerta de la fe a los Gentiles. ^14:28Y se quedaron allí mucho tiempo con los discípulos.

§Único   Conclusión: Los apóstoles y los ancianos celebraron un concilio en Jerusalén (15:1 - 35)

¶El complemento   El liderazgo de la iglesia debatió si los cristianos gentiles deberían ser obligados a seguir la Ley de Moisés (15:1 - 12)

^15:1Entonces algunos que venían de Judea enseñaban a los hermanos, diciendo, “Si no os circuncidáis conforme a la costumbre de Moisés, no podéis ser salvos”. ^15:2Así que, cuando Pablo y Bernabé tuvieron una disensión y contienda no pequeña con ellos, determinaron que Pablo y Bernabé, y algunos otros de ellos, subiesen a Jerusalén, a los Apóstoles y a los ancianos, para tratar esta cuestión.

^15:3Ellos, pues, siendo encaminados por la Asamblea, pasaron por Fenicia y Samaria, contando la conversión de los Gentiles; y causaban gran gozo a todos los hermanos. ^15:4Y cuando llegaron a Jerusalén, fueron recibidos por la Asamblea y los Apóstoles y los ancianos, y les contaron todas las cosas que Dios había hecho con ellos.

^15:5Pero algunos de la secta de los fariseos, que habían creído, se levantaron, diciendo que era necesario circuncidarlos y mandarles que guardasen la Ley de Moisés.

^15:6Y se reunieron los Apóstoles y los ancianos para considerar este asunto. ^15:7Y después de mucha discusión, Pedro se levantó y les dijo, “Varones, hermanos, ustedes sabéis cómo ya hace algún tiempo que Dios escogió entre nosotros, que los Gentiles oyesen por mi boca la Palabra del Evangelio, y creyesen. ^15:8Y Dios, que conoce los corazones, les dio testimonio, dándoles el Espíritu Santo también como a nosotros; ^15:9y ninguna diferencia hizo entre nosotros y ellos, purificando por la fe sus corazones. ^15:10Ahora, pues, ¿por qué tentáis a Dios, poniendo sobre la cerviz de los discípulos un yugo que ni nuestros padres ni nosotros hemos podido llevar? ^15:11Antes creemos que por la gracia del Señor Jesús Cristo somos salvos, del mismo modo que ellos”.

^15:12Entonces toda la multitud calló, y oyeron a Bernabé y a Pablo, que contaban cuántos milagros y maravillas había hecho Dios por medio de ellos entre los Gentiles.

¶El complemento   La iglesia de Antioquía se regocijó al escuchar que los cristianos gentiles no serían obligados a seguir la Ley de Moisés (15:13 - 35)

^15:13Y después que hubieron callado, Jacobo respondió, diciendo, “Varones hermanos, oídme. ^15:14Simón ha contado cómo Dios visitó por primera vez a los Gentiles, para tomar de ellos pueblo para su Nombre. ^15:15Y con esto concuerdan las palabras de los Profetas, como está escrito, ^15:16‘‘Después de esto volveré, y reedificaré el tabernáculo de David, que está caído; y repararé sus ruinas, y lo volveré a levantar, ^15:17para que el resto de los hombres busque al Señor, y todos los Gentiles sobre los cuales es invocado mi Nombre,’ dice [Jehová], ‘que hace todas estas cosas’’. ^15:18Conocidas son a Dios todas sus obras desde la Eternidad.

^15:19“Por lo cual yo juzgo, que no se moleste a los que de los Gentiles se convierten a Dios; ^15:20sino que les escribamos que se abstengan de las contaminaciones de los ídolos, y de fornicación, y de estrangulado y de sangre: ^15:21porque Moisés desde los tiempos antiguos tiene en cada ciudad quien lo predique en las sinagogas, donde es leído cada Sábado”.

^15:22Entonces pareció bien a los Apóstoles y a los ancianos, con toda la Asamblea, elegir varones de ellos, y enviarlos a Antioquía con Pablo y Bernabé; a Judas que tenía por sobrenombre Barsabás, y a Silas, varones principales entre los hermanos, ^15:23y escribir por mano de ellos, de esta manera, “Los Apóstoles y los ancianos y los hermanos: a los hermanos que son de los Gentiles que están en Antioquía, y en Siria, y en Cilicia, saludos. ^15:24Por cuanto hemos oído que algunos que han salido de nosotros, os han inquietado con palabras, turbando vuestras almas, mandando circuncidaros y guardar la Ley, a los cuales no dimos tal mandato, ^15:25nos ha parecido bien, congregados en uno, elegir varones, y enviarlos a ustedes con nuestros amados Bernabé y Pablo, ^15:26hombres que han expuesto sus vidas por el Nombre de nuestro Señor Jesús Cristo. ^15:27Así que enviamos a Judas y a Silas, los cuales también por palabra os harán saber lo mismo. ^15:28Pues ha parecido bien al Espíritu Santo, y a nosotros, no imponeros ninguna carga más que estas cosas necesarias: ^15:29que os abstengáis de lo sacrificado a ídolos, y de sangre, y de estrangulado y de fornicación; de las cuales cosas si os guardareis, bien haréis. Pasadlo bien”.

^15:30Así que cuando fueron despedidos, descendieron a Antioquía; y reuniendo a la multitud, entregaron la carta; ^15:31la cual habiendo leído, se gozaron por la consolación. ^15:32Y Judas y Silas, siendo también Profetas, exhortaron y confirmaron a los hermanos con abundancia de palabras.

^15:33Y después de pasar allí algún tiempo, fueron enviados de los hermanos a los Apóstoles en paz. ^15:34Pero a Silas le pareció bien el quedarse allí aún. ^15:35Y Pablo y Bernabé se quedaron en Antioquía, enseñando y predicando la Palabra del Señor, también con muchos otros.
