John, Chapter 1.2: Jesus Christ is the True Savior of the world (2:23 - 5:47)

Introduction: You must be born again through faith in the crucified Son of God before you can enter into the Kingdom of God (2:23 - 3:21)

¶Opposite   Unless a man is born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God (2:23 - 3:8)

¶Opposite   The way to be born again and enter into the Kingdom of God is to believe in Jesus Christ as your personal Savior (3:9 - 21)

Body: Jesus witnessed to the woman of Samaria that He is the Messiah of the Jews (3:22 - 4:54)

¶Opposite   The ministry of Jesus was growing more than the ministry of John (3:22 - 30)

¶Opposite   Jesus Christ came from Heaven and speaks the words of God (3:31 - 36)

¶Complement   Jesus shared the Gospel with the woman of Samaria, while his disciples went into the city to buy food (4:1 - 26)

^3:1There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.

^3:2The same came to Jesus by night, and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that you do, unless God is with him.” ^3:3Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a man is born from above, he cannot see the Kingdom of God.”

^3:4Nicodemus says to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born a second time?” ^3:5Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a man is born of water and also of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God. ^3:6That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

^3:7“Marvel not that I said to you, ‘You must be born from above’: ^3:8The wind blows where it wishes; and you hear its sound, but cannot tell where it came from, and where it is going; so is every one that is born of the Spirit.”

¶Opposite   The way to be born again and enter into the Kingdom of God is to believe in Jesus Christ as your personal Savior (3:9 - 21)

^3:9Nicodemus answered and said to him, “How can these things be?” ^3:10Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things?

^3:11“Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak what we know, and testify what we have seen, and you receive not our witness. ^3:12If I have told you earthly things, and you do not believe, how shall you believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? ^3:13And no man has ascended up to Heaven, but he that came down from Heaven, even the Son of man who is in Heaven.

^3:14“And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up, ^3:15that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have Eternal Life. ^3:16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have Everlasting Life.

^3:17“For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. ^3:18He that believes on him is not condemned; but he that believes not has been condemned already, because he has not believed in the Name of the only begotten Son of God.

^3:19And this is the condemnation, that Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness rather than Light, because their deeds were evil. ^3:20For every one that does evil hates the Light; neither does he come to the Light, lest his deeds should be exposed. ^3:21But he that does truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they were performed in God.”

^3:22After these things Jesus and his disciples came into the land of Judea; and he stayed with them there, and baptized.

And they came, and were baptized: ^3:24for John was not yet cast into prison.

^3:25Then there arose a question between some of John’s disciples and the Jews about ceremonial cleansing. ^3:26And they came to John, and said to him, “Rabbi, he that was with you beyond Jordan, to whom you bore witness: behold, the same baptizes, and all men come to him.” ^3:27John answered and said, “A man is unable to receive anything, unless it has been given him from Heaven.

^3:28“You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, ‘I am not the Christ’, but that I am sent before him. ^3:29He that has the Bride is the Bridegroom; but the friend of the Bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the Bridegroom’s voice; this my joy therefore is fulfilled. ^3:30He must increase, but I must decrease.”

¶Opposite   Jesus Christ came from Heaven and speaks the words of God (3:31 - 36)

^3:31“He that comes from above is above all;

“he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaks of the earth.”

“He that comes from Heaven is above all; ^3:32and what he has seen and heard, that he testifies; and no man receives his testimony.

^3:33“He that has received his testimony has set to his seal that God is true: ^3:34for he whom God has sent speaks the words of God: for God does not give the Spirit by measure to him.

^3:35“The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into his hand. ^3:36He that believes on the Son has Everlasting Life, and he that does not believe on the Son shall not see Life, but the wrath of God remains upon him.”

¶Complement   Jesus shared the Gospel with the woman of Samaria, while his disciples went into the city to buy food (4:1 - 26)

^4:1Therefore when the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John ^4:2(though Jesus himself did not baptize, but his disciples), ^4:3he left Judea, and went again into Galilee. ^4:4And it was necessary for him to go through Samaria. ^4:5Then he comes to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. ^4:6Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well; and it was about the sixth hour. ^4:7A woman of Samaria comes to draw water; Jesus says to her, “Give me water to drink” ^4:8(for his disciples had gone away to the city to buy food). ^4:9Then the woman of Samaria says to him, “How is it that you, being a Jew, ask a drink of me, who is a woman of Samaria? For the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.” ^4:10Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that says to you, ‘Give me water to drink’, you would have asked of him, and he would have given you living water.”

^4:11The woman says to him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep; from where then do you have that living water? ^4:12Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank of it himself, and his children, and his cattle?” ^4:13Jesus answered and said to her, “Whosoever drinks of this water shall thirst again; ^4:14but whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst, but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into Everlasting Life.”

^4:15The woman says to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I do not thirst; neither come here to draw.” Jesus says to her, ^4:16“Go, call your husband, and come here.” ^4:17The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You have well said, ‘I have no husband’: ^4:18for you have had five husbands; and he whom you now have is not your husband; in that you said truly.”

^4:19The woman says to him, “Sir, I perceive that you are a Prophet. ^4:20Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and you say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.” ^4:21Jesus says to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming, when you shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. ^4:22You worship what you do not understand; we understand what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. ^4:23But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeks such to worship him. ^4:24God is Spirit; and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”

^4:25The woman says to him, “I know that Messiah is coming, who is called Christ; when he has come, he will tell us all things.” ^4:26Jesus says to her, “I that speak to you am he.”

¶Complement   Jesus instructed his disciples about sharing the Gospel, while the woman went into her city to share the Gospel (4:27 - 42)

^4:27And upon this came his disciples, and marveled that he talked with the woman; yet no man said, “What are you looking for?” or, “Why do you talk with her?” ^4:28The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and says to the men, ^4:29“Come, see a man, who told me everything that I ever did. Is not this the Christ?” ^4:30Then they went out of the city, and came to him.

^4:31In the meantime his disciples urged him, saying, “Master, eat.” ^4:32But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know of.” ^4:33Therefore the disciples said one to another, “Has any man brought him food to eat?” ^4:34Jesus says to them, “My food is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

^4:35“Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, and then harvest comes?’ Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes, and look on the fields: for they are already white unto harvest. ^4:36And he that reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit into Eternal Life, so that both he that sows and he that reaps may rejoice together. ^4:37And herein is that saying true, ‘One sows, and another reaps.’ ^4:38I sent you to reap that whereon you bestowed no labor; other men labored, and you have entered into their labors.”

^4:39And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, who testified, “He told me all that I ever did.” ^4:40So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him that he should stay with them; and he stayed there two days.

^4:41And many more believed because of his own Word, ^4:42and they said to the woman, “Now we believe, but not because of your saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is truly the Christ, the Savior of the world.”

¶Unique   Jesus healed the son of a nobleman from a great distance away, because the nobleman believed his Word (4:43 - 54)

^4:43Now after two days he left there, and went into Galilee: ^4:44for Jesus himself testified, that a Prophet has no honor in his own country.

^4:45Then when he came into Galilee, the Galileans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went to the feast.

^4:46So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum. ^4:47When he heard that Jesus came out of Judea into Galilee, he went to him, and begged him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death. ^4:48Then Jesus said to him, “Unless you see signs and wonders, you will not believe.”

^4:49The nobleman says to him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.” ^4:50Jesus says to him, “Go your way; your son lives.” And the man believed the Word that Jesus had spoken to him, and he went his way.

^4:51And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, “Your son is living.” ^4:52Then he inquired of them the hour when he began to improve; and they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.” ^4:53So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said to him, “Your son lives”; and himself believed, and his entire household. ^4:54This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he came out of Judea into Galilee.

^5:1After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. ^5:2Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep gate a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue “Bethesda”, having five porches. ^5:3In these lay a great multitude of sick people: of blind, lame, and withered, who were waiting for the moving of the water. ^5:4For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water; whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.

^5:5And a certain man was there, who had an infirmity thirty-eight years. ^5:6When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had now been a long time in that condition, he says to him, “Do you want to be whole?” ^5:7The feeble man answered him, “Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.” ^5:8Jesus says to him, “Arise, take up your bed, and walk.” ^5:9And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked; and on the same day was the Sabbath.

^5:10Therefore the Jews said to him that was cured, “It is the Sabbath day; it is unlawful for you to carry your bed.” ^5:11He answered them, “He that made me whole, the same said to me, ‘Take up your bed, and walk.’”

^5:12Then they asked him, “What man is that who said to you, ‘Take up your bed, and walk’?” ^5:13But he that was healed did not know who it was: for Jesus had moved away, a multitude being in that place.

^5:14Afterward Jesus found him in the Temple, and said to him, “Behold, you have been made whole; sin no more, lest a worse thing comes to you.” ^5:15The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, who had made him whole. ^5:16And therefore the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the Sabbath day. ^5:17But Jesus answered them, “My Father works until now, and I work.”

¶Complement   Jesus rebuked the Jews for not believing the witness of John, his works, his Father, the Scriptures, and Moses to his Deity (5:18 - 5:47)

^5:18Therefore the Jews sought even more to kill him, because he not only had broken the Sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God. ^5:19Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of himself, but what he sees the Father do: for whatsoever things he does, these things also does the Son likewise. ^5:20For the Father loves the Son, and shows him all things that he himself does; and he will show him greater works than these, that you may marvel. ^5:21For as the Father raises up the dead, and makes them live, even so the Son makes alive whom he wishes. ^5:22For the Father judges no man, but has committed all judgment to the Son, ^5:23that all men should honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He that does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who has sent him.

^5:24“Truly, truly, I say to you, he that hears my Word, and believes on him that sent me, has Everlasting Life, and shall not come into condemnation; but has passed from spiritual death into spiritual Life. ^5:25Truly, truly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and even now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God; and they that hear shall live: ^5:26for as the Father has Life in himself, so has he given to the Son to have Life in himself. ^5:27And he has given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man. ^5:28Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, ^5:29and come forth: they that have done good, into the resurrection of Life; and they that have done evil, into the resurrection of damnation. ^5:30I can of my own self do nothing; as I hear, I judge; and my judgment is just, because I seek not my own will, but the will of the Father who has sent me.”

^5:31“If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true. ^5:32There is another that bears witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesses of me is true. ^5:33You sent to John, and he bore witness to the truth. ^5:34But I do not receive testimony from man; but these things I say, that you might be saved. ^5:35He was a burning and a shining light; and you were willing for a season to rejoice in his light. ^5:36But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father has given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father has sent me. ^5:37And the Father himself, who has sent me, has borne witness of me. You have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape. ^5:38And you do not have his Word abiding in you: for whom he has sent, him you do not believe.

^5:39“Search the Scriptures: for in them you think you have Eternal Life; and they are they which testify of me. ^5:40But you will not come to me, that you might have Life. ^5:41I do not receive honor from men. ^5:42But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you. ^5:43I have come in my Father’s Name, and you do not receive me; if another shall come in his own name, him you will receive. ^5:44How can you believe, who receive honor one of another, but seek not the honor that comes only from God?

^5:45“Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father; there is one that accuses you, even Moses, in whom you trust: ^5:46for had you believed Moses, you would have believed me: for he wrote of me. ^5:47But if you do not believe his writings, how shall you believe my words?”

Juan, Capítulo 1.2: Jesús Cristo es el Salvador Verdadero del mundo (2:23 - 5:47)

^3:7“No te maravilles de que te dije, ‘Os es necesario nacer otra vez’: ^3:8El viento sopla de donde quiere, y oyes su sonido, pero no sabes de dónde viene, ni a dónde va; así es todo aquel que es nacido del Espíritu”.

^3:19“Y esta es la condena, que la Luz ha venido al mundo, pero los hombres amaban más la oscuridad que la Luz, porque sus obras eran malas: ^3:20porque todo el que hace el mal odia la Luz; tampoco él viene a la Luz, para que sus obras no sean expuestos. ^3:21Pero el que hace la verdad viene a la Luz, para que sus obras puedan verse claramente, que fueron realizadas en Dios”.

^3:28“Ustedes mismos me sois testigos de que dije, ‘No soy el Cristo’, sino que soy enviado delante de él. ^3:29El que tiene la novia, es el Novio, pero el amigo del Novio, que está en pie y le oye, se goza grandemente de la voz del Novio. Así pues, este mi gozo es cumplido. ^3:30Él debe aumentar, sino debo disminuir”.

^3:31“El que viene de arriba está por encima de todos;

“el que es de la tierra es terrenal, y habla de la tierra”.

^3:33“El que recibe su testimonio certifica que Dios es veraz: ^3:34porque el que Dios envió habla las palabras de Dios, pues Dios no le da el Espíritu por medida.

^3:35“El Padre ama al Hijo y todas las cosas ha dado en su mano. ^3:36Él que cree en el Hijo tiene Vida Eterna; pero el que no cree en el Hijo no verá la Vida, sino la ira de Dios permanece sobre él”.

^4:1Y cuando el Señor entendió que los fariseos habían oído que Jesús hacía y bautizaba más discípulos que Juan ^4:2(aunque Jesús mismo no bautizaba, sino sus discípulos), ^4:3él dejó Judea, y se fue otra vez a Galilea. ^4:4Y era necesario para él para pasar a través Samaria. ^4:5Luego, llega a una ciudad de Samaria, que se llama Sicar, cerca de la parcela de tierra que Jacob le dio a su hijo José. ^4:6Ahora el pozo de Jacob estaba allí. Jesús, pues, cansado de su viaje, se sentó así junto al pozo; y era alrededor de la hora sexta. ^4:7Y vino una mujer de Samaria a sacar agua; Jesús dice a ella, “Dame agua para beber” ^4:8(Pues los discípulos habían ido a la ciudad a comprar de comer). ^4:9Entonces la mujer samaritana le dijo, “¿Por qué preguntas para una copa desde mí, una mujer de Samaria? Porque los judíos no tienen nada que ver con los samaritanos”. ^4:10Respondió Jesús y le dijo, “Si conocieras el don de Dios, y quien él es quien dice a usted: ‘Dame agua para beber’, le habrías pedido a él y él te habría dado agua viva”.

^4:11La mujer le dice: “Señor, no tiene nada con qué sacar, y el pozo es profundo. ¿De dónde entonces tienes esa agua viva? ^4:12¿Eres tú más grande que nuestro padre Jacob, que nos dio el pozo y bebió de ello él mismo, sus hijos y su ganado?”. ^4:13Respondió Jesús y le dijo, “Cualquiera que bebiere de esta agua volverá a tener sed, ^4:14pero el que bebiere del agua que yo le daré, no tendrá sed jamás; sino que el agua que yo le daré será en él una fuente de agua que salta para Vida Eterna”.

^4:15La mujer le dijo, “Señor, dame esa agua, para que yo no tenga sed, ni venga acá a sacarla”. ^4:16Jesús le dijo, “Ve, llama a tu marido, y ven acá”. ^4:17Respondió la mujer y dijo, “No tengo marido”. Jesús le dijo, “Bien has dicho, ‘No tengo marido’: ^4:18porque tú has tenido cinco maridos, y el que ahora tú tienes no es tu marido; esto has dicho con verdad”.

^4:19La mujer le dijo, “Señor, me parece que tú eres Profeta. ^4:20Nuestros padres adoraron en este monte, y ustedes decís que en Jerusalén es el lugar donde los hombres deberían adorar”. ^4:21Jesús le dijo, “Mujer, créeme que la hora viene cuando ni en este monte ni en Jerusalén adoraréis al Padre. ^4:22Ustedes adoráis lo que no comprendéis; entendemos lo que adoramos: porque la salvación viene de los judíos. ^4:23Pero la hora viene, y ahora es, cuando los verdaderos adoradores adorarán al Padre en espíritu y en verdad: porque el Padre busca a los tales para que le adoren. ^4:24Dios es Espíritu; y los que le adoran deben adorarle en espíritu y en verdad”.

^4:25La mujer le dijo, “Sé que el Mesías viene, el que es llamado, el Cristo; cuando él venga nos declarará todas las cosas”. ^4:26Jesús le dijo, “Yo, que te hablo, soy él”.

¶El complemento   Jesús instruyó a sus discípulos acerca de compartir el Evangelio, mientras la mujer fue a su ciudad para compartir el Evangelio (4:27 - 42)

^4:27Y en esto llegaron sus discípulos, y se maravillaron de que hablaba con la mujer; pero ninguno dijo, “¿Qué estás buscando? “O, “¿Por qué hablas con ella?”. ^4:28Entonces la mujer dejó su cántaro, y fue a la ciudad, y dijo a los hombres, ^4:29“Venid, ved a un hombre que me ha dicho todo lo que he hecho. ¿No es este el Cristo?”. ^4:30Entonces salieron de la ciudad, y vinieron a él.

^4:31Mientras tanto, sus discípulos lo instaban diciendo: “Maestro, come”. ^4:32Pero él les dijo, “Tengo comida para comer que no conocéis”. ^4:33Por tanto, los discípulos se decían unos a otros: “¿Algún hombre ha traído comida para que él coma?”. ^4:34Jesús les dice, “Mi comida es que haga la voluntad del que me envió, y que acabe su obra.

^4:35“¿No decís ustedes, “Aún quedan cuatro meses; y luego viene la cosecha?’ He aquí, os digo: alzad vuestros ojos y mirad los campos: Porque ellos ya son blancos para la cosecha. ^4:36Y el que siega recibe salario, y recoge fruto para Vida Eterna: para que el que siembra y el que cosecha pueden regocijarse juntos. ^4:37Y en esto, ese dicho es cierto: “Uno siembra y otro cosecha’. ^4:38Os envié a cosechar aquello por lo que no habéis trabajado; otros hombres trabajaron, y vosotros habéis entrado en sus labores”.

^4:39Y muchos de los samaritanos de esa ciudad creyeron en él debido al dicho de la mujer, quien testificó: “Me contó todo que alguna vez hice”. ^4:40Así que cuando los samaritanos vinieron a él, le instaron a que se quedara con ellos; y él se quedó ahí dos días.

^4:41Y muchos más creyeron debido a la propia Palabra de él; ^4:42y decían a la mujer, “Ahora creemos, pero no a causa de tu dicho; sino porque nosotros mismos le hemos oído, y sabemos que verdaderamente éste es el Cristo, el Salvador del mundo”.

¶Único   Jesús sanó al hijo de un noble desde lejos, porque el noble creía a su Palabra (4:43 - 54)

^4:43Y dos días después, salió de allí y se fue a Galilea: ^4:44porque Jesús mismo dio testimonio de que el Profeta no tiene honra en su propia tierra.

^4:45Y cuando vino a Galilea, los galileos le recibieron, habiendo visto todas las cosas que él hizo en Jerusalén en el día de la fiesta; pues también ellos habían ido a la fiesta.

^4:46Vino, pues, Jesús otra vez a Caná de Galilea, donde había convertido el agua en vino. Y había en Capernaúm un oficial del rey, cuyo hijo estaba enfermo. ^4:47Éste, cuando oyó que Jesús venía de Judea a Galilea, vino a él y le rogó que descendiese y sanase a su hijo: porque estaba a punto de morir. ^4:48Entonces Jesús le dijo, “Si no viereis señales y prodigios, no creeréis”.

^4:49El oficial del rey le dijo, “Señor, desciende antes que mi hijo muera”. ^4:50Jesús le dijo, “Ve, tu hijo vive”. Y el hombre creyó la Palabra que Jesús le dijo, y se fue.

^4:51Y cuando ya él descendía, sus siervos salieron a recibirle, y le dieron las nuevas, diciendo, “Tu hijo vive”. ^4:52Entonces les preguntó a qué hora había comenzado a mejorar. Y le dijeron, “Ayer a la hora séptima le dejó la fiebre”. ^4:53Entonces el padre entendió que aquella hora era cuando Jesús le dijo, “Tu hijo vive”; y creyó él, y toda su casa. ^4:54Éste además es el segundo milagro que Jesús hizo, cuando vino fuera de Judea a Galilea.

§Único   Conclusión: Los judíos persiguieron a Jesús porque había sanado a un hombre en el día de reposo y hizo él mismo igual con Dios (5:1 - 47)

¶El complemento   El hombre que fue sanado les dijo a los judíos que fue Jesús quien le dijo que cargar su cama en el sábado (5:1 - 17)

^5:1Después de estas cosas había una fiesta de los judíos, y subió Jesús a Jerusalén.

^5:2Ahora hay en Jerusalén junto a la puerta de las ovejas un charca, cual en hebreo es llamado Betesda, el cual tiene cinco pórticos. ^5:3En éstos yacía gran multitud de enfermos, ciegos, cojos, secos: que estaban esperando el movimiento del agua: ^5:4porque un ángel descendía en a cierto tiempo al charca y agitaba el agua; y el que primero descendía al estanque después del movimiento del agua, quedaba sano de cualquier enfermedad que tuviese. ^5:5Y cierto hombre estaba allí, que tuvo una enfermedad durante treinta y ocho años. ^5:6Cuando Jesús le vio acostado allí, y supo que había estado mucho tiempo en esa condición, le dijo: “¿Quieres estar entero?”. ^5:7El débil le respondió: “Señor, no tengo a nadie que me meta en el estanque cuando se agita el agua; pero mientras yo vengo, otro baja antes que yo”. ^5:8Jesús le dice: “Levántate, toma tu lecho y anda”. ^5:9E inmediatamente el hombre se hizo entero, recogió su cama y caminó; y en el mismo día era el sábado.

^5:10Entonces los judíos le dijeron que estaba curado, “Es el Sábado; no te es lícito llevar tu lecho”. ^5:11Él les respondió, “Él que me hizo entero, lo mismo me dijo, ‘Recoge tu lecho y anda’”.

^5:12Entonces le preguntaron, “¿Qué hombre es ese que te dijo, ‘Recoge tu lecho y anda’?”. ^5:13Pero el que había sido sanado no sabía quién era, porque Jesús se había alejado, habiendo una multitud en ese lugar.

^5:14Después, le halló Jesús en el Templo, y le dijo, “Mira, has sido hizo entero; no peques más, para que una cosa peor no viene a usted”. ^5:15El hombre se fue, y le dijo a los judíos, que Jesús era él quien le hizo entero. ^5:16Y por esta causa los judíos perseguían a Jesús, y procuraban matarle, porque hacía estas cosas en el Sábado. ^5:17Y Jesús les respondió, “Mi Padre trabaja hasta ahora, y trabajo”.

¶El complemento   Jesús reprendió a los judíos por no creer el testimonio de Juan, sus obras, su Padre, las Escrituras y Moisés a su Deidad (5:18 - 47)

^5:18Por tanto, los judíos procuraron matarle aun más, porque no solo había quebrantado el sábado, sino que también había dicho que Dios era su Padre, haciéndose a sí mismo igual con Dios. ^5:19Entonces Jesús respondió, y les dijo, “Verdaderamente, verdaderamente, os digo: El Hijo no puede hacer nada desde sí mismo, sino lo que ve hacer al Padre: porque cualquier las cosas que él hace, estas cosas también el Hijo hace igualmente: ^5:20porque el Padre ama al Hijo, y le muestra todas las cosas que él hace; y él mostrará a él obras mayores que estas, que ustedes maravilléis: ^5:21porque así como el Padre resucita a los muertos y les da vida, así también el Hijo da vida a los quien Él quiere: ^5:22porque el Padre a nadie juzga, sino ha encomendado todo juicio al Hijo, ^5:23para que todos honren al Hijo como honran al Padre. El que no honra al Hijo, no honra al Padre que le envió.

^5:24“Verdaderamente, verdaderamente, os digo: él que oye mi Palabra y cree en él que me envió, tiene Vida Eterna; y no entrará en condenación, pero ha pasado de la muerte espiritual a la Vida espiritual. ^5:25Verdaderamente, verdaderamente, os digo: la hora viene, e incluso ahora es, cuando los muertos oirán la voz del Hijo de Dios; y los que oyeren vivirán, cuando los muertos oirán la voz del Hijo de Dios; y los que oyeren vivirán: ^5:26porque como el Padre tiene Vida en sí mismo, así le ha dado al Hijo tener Vida en sí mismo; ^5:27y también él le ha dado autoridad para ejecutar juicio, porque es el Hijo del Hombre. ^5:28No os maravilléis de esto: porque la hora viene cuando todos los que están en los sepulcros oirán su voz, ^5:29y ellos saldrán: los que hicieron el bien, a la resurrección de Vida; y los que hicieron lo malo, a la resurrección de condenación. ^5:30No puedo yo hacer nada desde mí mismo; como oigo, juzgo; y mi juicio es justo, porque no busco mi propia voluntad, sino la voluntad del Padre quien me envió”.

^5:31“Si yo doy testimonio de mí mismo, mi testimonio no es verdadero. ^5:32Hay otro que da testimonio de mí; y sé que el testimonio que él da de mí es verdadero. ^5:33Enviasteis mensajeros a Juan, y él dio testimonio de la verdad. ^5:34Pero yo no recibo el testimonio de hombre; pero digo esto para que ustedes pudiereis salvados. ^5:35Él era antorcha que ardía y alumbraba; y, por un tiempo, estabais dispuesto a regocijaros en su luz. ^5:36Pero yo tengo mayor testimonio que el de Juan: porque las obras que el Padre me dio que cumpliese, las mismas obras que yo hago, dan testimonio de mí, que el Padre me ha enviado. ^5:37Y el Padre mismo, quien me envió, da testimonio de mí. Ustedes nunca habéis oído su voz, ni habéis visto su forma. ^5:38Y no tenéis su Palabra morando en ustedes: porque quien él ha enviado, ustedes no creen él.

^5:39“Escudriñad las Escrituras: porque en ellos, creéis que tenéis Vida Eterna; y ellas son las que dan testimonio de mí. ^5:40Pero no vendréis a mí, para que tengáis vida. ^5:41No recibo gloria desde los hombres. ^5:42Pero yo os conozco, que no tenéis el amor de Dios en ustedes. ^5:43Yo he venido en el Nombre de mi Padre, y no me recibís; si otro viniere en su propio nombre, a ése recibiréis. ^5:44¿Cómo podéis creéis, quien recibís gloria los unos de los otros, pero no buscáis la gloria que sólo de Dios viene?

^5:45“No penséis que yo os acusaré al Padre; hay uno que os acusa, incluso Moisés, en quien ustedes confiáis: ^5:46porque si habíais creído a Moisés, me hubierais creído; porque él escribió de mí. ^5:47Pero si no creéis a sus escritos, ¿cómo creeréis a mis palabras?”.
