§Complement Introduction: The Jews tried to snare Jesus with the Law of Moses, but failed (8:1 - 11)

¶Opposite Jesus was teaching in the Temple when they brought an adulterer to Him to be stoned (8:1 - 6)

But Jesus stooped down; and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he did not hear them.

§Complement Body: The Jews attacked and blasphemed Jesus (8:12 - 9:34)

¶Unique Jesus warned the Jews that they would die in their sins if they did not believe that He was the I AM (8:12 - 27)

^8:12Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the Light of the world: he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the Light of Life.” ^8:13Therefore the Pharisees said to him, “You bear witness of yourself; your witness is not true.” ^8:14Jesus answered and said to them, “Though I bear witness of myself, yet my witness is true: for I know where I came from, and where I am going. But you cannot tell where I came from, and where I am going. ^8:15You judge after the flesh; I judge no man. ^8:16And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me. ^8:17It is also written in your Law, that the witness of two men is true. ^8:18I am one that bears witness of myself; and the Father that sent me bears witness of me.”

^8:28Then Jesus said to them, “When you have lifted up the Son of man, then you shall know that I AM; and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father has taught me, I speak these things. ^8:29And he that sent me is with me; the Father has not left me alone: for I always do those things that please him.”

^8:30As he spoke these words, many believed on him. ^8:31Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed on him, “If you continue in my Word, then are you truly my disciples; ^8:32and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

Jesus says to them, “If you were Abraham’s children, you would do the works of Abraham. ^8:40But now you seek to kill me, a man that has told you the truth, which I have heard of God; Abraham did not do this. ^8:41You do the deeds of your father.”

¶Complement Jesus condemned those who rejected his Word as children of the devil (8:41b - 59)

Then they said to him, “We were not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.” ^8:42Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither did I come of myself, but he sent me. ^8:43Why do you not understand my speech? Even because you cannot hear my Word. ^8:44You are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and did not remain in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. ^8:45And because I tell you the truth, you do not believe me. ^8:46Which of you convicts me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do you not believe me? ^8:47He that is of God hears God’s words; therefore you do not hear them, because you are not of God.”

^8:48Then the Jews answered, and said to him, “Do we not say well that you are a Samaritan, and have a demon?” ^8:49Jesus answered, “I have no demon; but I honor my Father, and you do dishonor me. ^8:50And I do not seek my own glory; there is one that seeks and judges. ^8:51Truly, truly, I say to you, if a man keeps my saying, he shall never see death.”

^8:52Then the Jews said to him, “Now we know that you have a demon. Abraham is dead, and the Prophets; and you say, ‘If a man keeps my saying, he shall never taste of death.’ ^8:53Are you greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? And the Prophets are dead. ¶Opposite Jesus gave sight to a man that was born blind (9:1 - 17)

^9:1And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man who was blind from birth; ^9:2and his disciples asked him, saying, “Master, who sinned, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?” ^9:3Jesus answered, “Neither has this man sinned, nor his parents; but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. ^9:4I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day; the night is coming, when no man can work. ^9:5As long as I am in the world, I am the Light of the world.” ^9:6When he had said this, he spat on the ground, and made clay with the spit; and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay. ^9:7And he said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, “Sent”).

^9:18But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight; ^9:19and they asked them, saying, “Is this your son, who you say was born blind? How then does he now see?” ^9:20His parents answered them and said, “We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind; ^9:21but by what means he now sees, we do not know; or who has opened his eyes, we do not know. He is an adult; ask him. He shall speak for himself.” ^9:22His parents spoke these words, because they were afraid of the Jews: for the Jews had already agreed, that if any man confessed that he was Christ, he would be expelled from the synagogue; ^9:23therefore his parents said, “He is an adult; ask him.”

^9:24Then again they called the man that was blind, and said to him, “Give God the praise; we know that this man is a sinner.” ^9:25He answered and said, “Whether he is a sinner or not, I do not know. One thing I do know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.”

^9:26Then they said to him again, “What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?” ^9:27He answered them, “I have told you already, and you did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to be his disciples?”

^9:28Then they reviled him, and said, “You are his disciple; but we are Moses’ disciples! ^9:29We know that God spoke to Moses; but as for this man, we do not know where he is from.” ^9:30The man answered and said to them, “Why herein is a marvelous thing, that you do not know where he is from; and yet he has opened my eyes. ^9:31Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if any man is a worshipper of God, and is doing his will, him he hears. ^9:32Since the world began, was it ever heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind? ^9:33If this man were not of God, he could do nothing.”

^9:34They answered and said to him, “You were altogether born in sins, and do you teach us?” And they excommunicated him.

§Unique Conclusion: The many false shepherds and the one Good Shepherd (9:35 - 10:21)

¶Complement The elect sheep of God did not follow the many false shepherds (9:35 - 10:6)

^9:35Jesus heard that they had excommunicated him; and when he had found him, he said to him, “Do you believe on the Son of God?” ^9:36He answered and said, “Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?” ^9:37And Jesus said to him, “You have both seen him, and it is he that talks with you.” ^9:38And he said, “Lord, I believe.” And he worshiped him.

^9:39And Jesus said, “For judgment have I come into this world, that they who see not might see; and that they who see might be made blind.” ^9:40And some of the Pharisees who were with him heard these words, and said to him, “Are we also blind?” ^9:41Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, ‘We see’; therefore your sin remains.”

^10:11“I am the Good Shepherd: the Good Shepherd gives his life for the sheep. ^10:12But he that is a hired man, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, sees the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep, and flees; and the wolf catches them, and scatters the sheep. ^10:13The hired man flees, because he is a hired man, and does not care for the sheep.

^10:14“I am the Good Shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. ^10:15As the Father knows me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. ^10:16And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one Shepherd. ^10:17Therefore my Father loves me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. ^10:18No man takes it from me, but I lay it down of myself. También los Profetas murieron. ¿Quién te haces a ti mismo?”. ^8:54Respondió Jesús, “Si yo me glorifico a mí mismo, mi gloria nada es; mi Padre es el que me glorifica; el que ustedes decís que es vuestro Dios. ^8:55Y ustedes no le conocéis; pero yo le conozco; y si dijere que no le conozco, sería mentiroso como ustedes, pero yo le conozco, y guardo su palabra. ^8:56Abraham vuestro padre se regocijó de ver mi día; y lo vio, y se gozó”.

^9:13Llevaron ante los fariseos al que había sido ciego. ^9:14Y era Sábado cuando Jesús hizo el lodo y le abrió los ojos. ^9:15Volvieron, pues, a preguntarle también los fariseos cómo había recibido la vista. ^9:18Pero los judíos no creían de que él había sido ciego, y que había recibido la vista, hasta que llamaron a los padres del que había recibido la vista, ^9:19y les preguntaron, diciendo, “¿Es éste vuestro hijo, el que ustedes decís que nació ciego? ¿Cómo, pues, ve ahora?”. ^9:20Respondiendo sus padres, les dijeron, “Sabemos que éste es nuestro hijo, y que nació ciego; ^9:21pero cómo vea ahora, no lo sabemos; o quién le haya abierto los ojos, nosotros no lo sabemos; edad tiene, preguntadle a él; él hablará por sí mismo”. ^9:22Esto dijeron sus padres porque tenían miedo de los judíos: porque los judíos ya habían acordado que si alguno confesase que él era el Cristo, debía ser expulsado de la sinagoga. ^9:23Por eso dijeron sus padres, “Edad tiene, preguntadle a él”.

^9:34Respondieron y le dijeron, “Naciste enteramente en pecado, ¿y tú nos enseñas?”. Y le excomulgaron.

^10:19Y volvió a haber disensión entre los judíos por estas palabras. ^10:20Y muchos de ellos decían, “Demonio tiene, y está fuera de sí; ¿por qué le oís?”. ^10:21Otros decían, “Estas palabras no son de endemoniado. ¿Puede acaso el demonio abrir los ojos de los ciegos?”.
