^7:1Now when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entered into Capernaum. ^7:2And a certain centurion’s servant, who was dear to him, was sick, and at the point of death.

^7:3And when he heard of Jesus, he sent to him the elders of the Jews, asking him that he would come and heal his servant.

^7:4And when they came to Jesus, they implored him earnestly; saying, “He was worthy for whom he should do this: ^7:5for he loves our nation; and he has built us a synagogue.”^7:6Then Jesus went with them.

And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying to him, “Lord, trouble not yourself: for I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof; ^7:7therefore neither did I think myself worthy to come to you; but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed: ^7:8for I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say to one, ‘Go’, and he goes; and to another, ‘Come’, and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this’, and he does it.”

^7:9When Jesus heard these things, he marveled at him; and he turned around. And he said to the people that followed him, “I say to you, I have not found such strong faith; no, not even in Israel.” ^7:10And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick.

¶Opposite   Jesus inspired faith in a large crowd of people by raising a young man from the dead (7:11 - 17)

^7:11And it came to pass the next day, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and many people.

^7:12Now when he came near to the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and many people of the city were with her. ^7:13And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said to her, “Weep not.” ^7:14And he came and touched the coffin; and they that carried it stood still; and he said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” ^7:15And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak; and he delivered him to his mother.

^7:16Then fear came upon all.

And they glorified God, saying, “A great Prophet has risen up among us”; and, “God has visited his people.”

^7:17And this rumor of him went forth throughout all Judea, and throughout all the region round about.

§Complement    Body: The saving faith of a new Believer resulted in outward good fruit: a display of gratitude (7:18 - 50)

^7:18And the disciples of John told him of all these things.

^7:19And John, calling to him two of his disciples, sent them to Jesus, saying, “Are you he that should come; or do we look for another?”

^7:20When the men came to him, they said, “John Baptist has sent us to you, saying, ‘Are you he that should come; or should we look for another?’”

^7:21And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and to many that were blind he gave sight.

^7:22Then Jesus answering said to them, “Go your way, and tell John what things you have seen and heard: how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and to the poor the Gospel is preached. ^7:23And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.”

¶Opposite   Jesus rebuked the lack of faith in the self-righteous Pharisees and lawyers (7:24 - 35)

^7:24And when the messengers of John were gone, he began to speak to the people concerning John, “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind? ^7:25But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft clothing? Behold, they that are gorgeously dressed, and live in luxury, are in kings’ courts. ^7:26But what did you go out to see? A Prophet? Yes, I say to you, and much more than a Prophet. ^7:27This is he, of whom it is written, ‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, which shall prepare your way before you.’ ^7:28For I say to you, among those that are born of women there is not a greater Prophet than John the Baptist. But he that is least in the Kingdom of God is greater than he.”

^7:29And all the people that heard him, and the tax collectors, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.

^7:30But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized by him.

^7:31And the Lord said, “To what then shall I liken the men of this generation? And to what are they like? ^7:32They are like children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, ‘We have piped to you, and you have not danced; we have mourned to you, and you have not wept.’

^7:33“For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and you say, ‘He has a demon.’ ^7:34The Son of man has come eating and drinking; and you say, ‘Behold a gluttonous man and a wino; a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ ^7:35But wisdom is justified of all her children.”

¶Complement   A sinful woman whom Jesus had forgiven came to show her gratitude for his forgiveness (7:36 - 39)

^7:36And one of the Pharisees invited him to eat with him; and he went into the Pharisee’s house, and reclined to eat.

^7:37And, behold, a woman in the city, who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus reclined to eat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment;

^7:38and she stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and wiped his feet with the hairs of her head; and she kissed his feet; and anointed them with the ointment.

^7:39Now when the Pharisee which had invited him saw this, he spoke within himself, saying, “This man, if he were a Prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that touches him:

for she is a sinner.”

¶Complement   Jesus exposed the hardness of Simon’s heart with a parable of a generous creditor (7:40 - 43)

^7:40And Jesus answering said to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” And he says, “Master, say on.”

^7:41“There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.

^7:42“And when they had nothing to pay, he freely forgave them both.”

“Therefore tell me, which of them will love him most?” ^7:43Simon answered and said, “I suppose, the one to whom he forgave most.”

And he said to him, “You have rightly judged.”

¶Unique   Jesus gave assurance to the new Believer in Him that her sins were forgiven (7:44 - 50)

^7:44And he turned to the woman, and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered into your house, and you gave me no water for my feet; but she has washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head. ^7:45You gave me no kiss; but this woman since the time I came in has not ceased to kiss my feet. ^7:46You did not anoint my head with oil; but this woman has anointed my feet with oil.

^7:47“Therefore I say to you, her sins, which were many, have been forgiven; therefore she loved much. But to whom little sin is forgiven, the same loves little.”

^7:48And he said to her, “Your sins have been forgiven.”

^7:49And they that reclined to eat with him began to say within themselves, “Who is this, that also forgives sins?”

^7:50And he said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

And the twelve Apostles were with him; ^8:2and also certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven demons, ^8:3and Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others, who ministered to him of their substance.

^8:4And when many people were gathered together; and came to him out of every city, he spoke by a parable: ^8:5“A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell beside the road; and it was trampled down, and the birds of the air devoured it. ^8:6And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it had sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture. ^8:7And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it. ^8:8And others fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bore fruit a hundredfold.”

And when he had said these things, he cried, “He that has ears to hear, let him hear!”

^8:9And his disciples asked him, saying, “What does this parable mean?” ^8:10And he said, “To you it is given to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of God; but to others in parables, that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand. ^8:11Now the parable is this: the seed is the Word of God. ^8:12Those by the roadside are they that hear. Then the devil comes, and takes away the Word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. ^8:13They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the Word with joy; but these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of testing fall away. ^8:14And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth; and they are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life; and they bring no fruit to completion. ^8:15But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the Word, keep it; and they bring forth fruit with patience.”

¶Complement   The good spiritual fruit of a person who is genuinely saved is hearing and doing the Word of God (8:16 - 21)

^8:16“No man, when he has lit a candle, covers it with a vessel, or puts it under a bed; but sets it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light. ^8:17For nothing is secret that shall not be exposed; neither anything hidden, that shall not be known and come abroad.

^8:18“Therefore take heed how you hear: for whosoever has fruit, to him shall be given. And whosoever has no fruit, from him shall be taken even that which he seems to have.”

^8:19Then his mother and his brothers came to him;

but they could not come near him for the crowd.

^8:20And it was told him, saying, “Your mother and your brothers stand outside, asking to see you.” ^8:21And he answered and said to them, “My mother and my brothers are these which hear the Word of God, and do it.”

Y cuando dijo estas cosas, gritó: “El que tiene oídos para oír, ¡déjele oír!”.

^8:9Y sus discípulos le preguntaron, diciendo, “¿Qué significa esta parábola?”. ^8:10Y él dijo, “A ustedes, ello está dado conocer los misterios del Reino de Dios; pero a otros en parábolas, para que viendo, no podrían ver; y oyendo, podrían no entender. ^8:11Ahora la parábola es esta: la semilla es la Palabra de Dios. ^8:12Los que están al lado del camino son los que oyen. Entonces viene el diablo, y quita la Palabra de sus corazones, para que no crean y se salven. ^8:13Aquellos sobre la roca son ellos, quien, cuando oyen, reciben la Palabra con alegría; pero estos no tienen raíz; cual por un tiempo creen; y en el momento de probando, se caen lejos. ^8:14Y lo que cayó entre espinas son ellos, cual, cuando lo han oído, salen; y están ahogadas por los cuidados, las riquezas y los placeres de esta vida; y no traen fruta a la finalización. ^8:15Pero aquellos en el buen terreno son ellos, quien en un corazón honesto y bueno, habiendo escuchado la Palabra, la guardan; y producen fruto con paciencia”.

^8:16“Ningún hombre, cuando ha encendido una vela, la cubre con un recipiente o la coloca debajo de una cama; pero él lo pone sobre un candelero, para que los que entren puedan ver la luz: ^8:17porque nada es secreto que no se expondrá; tampoco hay nada oculto, eso no se conocerá y vendrá al extranjero.

^8:18“Por lo tanto, tened cuidado a cómo escucháis: porque cualquiera que tiene fruto, a él será dado más; y cualquiera que no tenga fruto, incluso lo que él parece tener le será quitado”.

^8:19Entonces su madre y sus hermanos vinieron a él;
