^4:18And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishermen. ^4:19And he says to them, “Follow me; and I will make you fishers of men.” ^4:20And they immediately left their nets, and followed him.

^4:21And going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. And he called them; ^4:22and they immediately left the boat and their father, and they followed him.

^4:23And Jesus went about all Galilee: teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom; and healing all ailments, and all diseases among the people.

^4:24And his fame spread throughout all Syria; and they brought to him all sick people that were taken with various diseases and torments, and those who were possessed with demons, and those who were insane, and those that were paralyzed: and he healed them.

^4:25And great multitudes of people from Galilee, and Decapolis, and Jerusalem, and Judea, and beyond Jordan, followed him.

^5:1And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain.

And when he was set down, his disciples came to him.

§Complement    Body: The internal righteousness of the children of the Kingdom of Heaven (5:2 - 6:34)

^5:2And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, ^5:3“Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven. ^5:4Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. ^5:5Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the land [of Israel]. ^5:6Blessed are they who hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. ^5:7Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. ^5:8Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. ^5:9Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

^5:10“Blessed are they who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

^5:11“Blessed are you, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. ^5:12Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad: for great is your reward in Heaven: for so persecuted they the Prophets who were before you.”

^5:13“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt is rendered tasteless, on what shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trampled under foot of men.

^5:14“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden; ^5:15neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it gives light to all that are in the house. ^5:16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works; and glorify your Father who is in Heaven.”

¶Opposite   Jesus came to fulfill the Law and expects the children of his Kingdom to obey and teach it as well (5:17 - 20)

^5:17“Do not think that I have come to destroy the Law, or the Prophets.

“I have not come to destroy, but to fulfill: ^5:18for truly I say to you, until Heaven and earth passes, not even one iota or one tittle shall pass from the Law, until all is fulfilled.”

^5:19“Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least Commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven.

“But whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven.

^5:20“For I say to you, that unless your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you shall never enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.”

¶Complement   Be internally righteous as well as externally obedient to the Law (5:21 - 42)

^5:21“You heard that it was said to them of old, ‘Do not murder’; and ‘whosoever shall murder shall be in danger of the judgment’; ^5:22but I say to you, that whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whosoever shall say to his brother, ‘You worthless fellow’, shall be in danger of the council. But whosoever shall say, ‘You wicked fool’, shall be in danger of Hellfire. ^5:23Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar and remember there that your brother has something against you, ^5:24leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. ^5:25Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are in the way with him, lest at any time the adversary delivers you to the judge, and the judge delivers you to the officer, and you are cast into prison. ^5:26Truly I say to you, that you shall never come out from there, until you have paid the uttermost kodrantes coin.

^5:27“You heard that it was said to them of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery’; ^5:28but I say to you, that whosoever looks on a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. ^5:29And if your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out, and cast it from you: for it is better for you that one of your members should perish, and not that your whole body should be cast into Hell. ^5:30And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off, and cast it from you: for it is better for you that one of your members should perish, and not that your whole body should be cast into Hell.

^5:31“Also, it was said, ‘Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorce’; ^5:32but I say to you, that whosoever shall divorce his wife, except for the cause of fornication, causes her to commit adultery; and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced commits adultery.”

^5:33“Again, you heard that it was said to them of old, ‘You shall not swear falsely’, but ‘You shall perform to [Jehovah] your oaths’; ^5:34but I say to you, swear not at all; neither by Heaven, because it is God’s throne; ^5:35nor by the earth, because it is his footstool; nor by Jerusalem, because it is the city of the great King. ^5:36Neither shall you swear by your head, because you cannot make even one hair white or black. ^5:37But let your word be, ‘Yes, yes’ or ‘No, no’: for whatsoever is more than these comes of evil.

^5:38“You heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth’; ^5:39but I say to you, to not resist evil; but whosoever shall strike you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also. ^5:40And if any man will sue you at the Law, and take away your coat, let him have your cloak also. ^5:41And whosoever shall compel you to go a mile, go with him twice as far. ^5:42Give to him that asks of you; and from him that would borrow of you, turn him not away.”

¶Complement   Do your charity, prayers, and fasting as unto God; and not for the external praise of men (5:43 - 6:18)

^5:43“You heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor’, and ‘hate your enemy’; ^5:44but I say to you, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them who spitefully use you, and persecute you, ^5:45that you may be the children of your Father who is in Heaven: for he makes his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. ^5:46For if you love them who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? ^5:47And if you greet only your brethren, what are you doing differently than sinners? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? ^5:48Therefore be perfect, even as your Father, who is in Heaven, is perfect.

^6:1“Take heed that you do not your charity before men, to be seen of them; otherwise you have no reward of your Father, who is in Heaven. ^6:2Therefore when you do your charity, do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Truly I say to you: they have their reward. ^6:3But when you do charity, let not your left hand know what your right hand is doing, ^6:4that your charity may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret himself shall reward you openly.

^6:5“And when you pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you: they have their reward. ^6:6But you, when you pray, enter into your closet, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret shall reward you openly. ^6:7But when you pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. ^6:8Therefore, do not be like them: for your Father knows what things you have need of, before you ask him.”

^6:9“After this manner therefore pray: ‘Our Father who is in Heaven, sanctify your Name. ^6:10Your Kingdom come. Your will be done in earth, as it is in Heaven. ^6:11Give us this day our daily bread. ^6:12And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. ^6:13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the Evil one: for yours is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.’ ^6:14For if you forgive men their trespasses, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you. ^6:15But if you do not forgive men their trespasses; neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

^6:16“Moreover when you fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Truly I say to you: they have their reward. ^6:17But you, when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face, ^6:18that you do not appear unto men to fast, but to your Father who is in secret; and your Father, who sees in secret, shall reward you openly.”

¶Unique   Seek the Kingdom of God first internally, and all external needs will be added to you (6:19 - 34)

^6:19“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust corrupts, and where thieves break through and steal; ^6:20but lay up for yourselves treasures in Heaven, where neither moth nor rust corrupts, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: ^6:21for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

^6:22“The light of the body is the eye; if therefore your eye is single, your whole body shall be full of light. ^6:23But if your eye is evil, your whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!”

^6:24“No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate one, and love the other; or else he will hold to one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and earthly wealth.

^6:25“Therefore I say to you, be not anxious for your life: what you shall eat, or what you shall drink; nor yet for your body, what you shall put on. Is not the life more important than food, and the body more important than clothing? ^6:26Behold the birds of the air: for they sow not; neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much better than they? ^6:27Which of you by being anxious can add one cubit to his stature? ^6:28And why are you anxious for clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not; neither do they spin; ^6:29and yet I say to you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. ^6:30Therefore, if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? ^6:31Therefore be not anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’, or ‘What shall we drink?’, or ‘With what shall we be clothed?’ ^6:32(for the pagan Gentiles seek after all these things): for your Heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things. ^6:33But seek first the Kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and then all these things shall be added to you.

^6:34“Therefore be not anxious for the next day: for the next day shall be anxious for the things of itself. Sufficient to the day is its own evil.”

^7:6“Give not that which is holy to the dogs; neither cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and tear you.”

^7:7“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you: ^7:8for every one that asks, receives; and he that seeks, finds; and to him that knocks, it shall be opened.

^7:9“Or what man is there of you, whom if his son asks for bread, will he give him a stone? ^7:10Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? ^7:11If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Father, who is in Heaven, give good things to them that ask him?

^7:12“Therefore all things whatsoever you would that men should do to you, do even so to them: for this is the essence of the Law and the Prophets.”

^7:13Enter in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many there are who go in there.

^7:14“For confined is the gate and narrow is the Way which leads to Eternal Life, and few there are that find it.”

^7:15“Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing; but inwardly they are hungry wolves. ^7:16You shall know them by their fruits: do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? ^7:17Even so every good tree brings forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree brings forth evil fruit. ^7:18A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit; neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. ^7:19Every tree that does not bring forth good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire. ^7:20Therefore by their fruits you shall know them.

^7:21“Not every one that says to me, ‘Lord, Lord’, shall enter into the Kingdom of Heaven; but only he that does the will of my Father, who is in Heaven. ^7:22Many will say to me in that day, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your Name? ^5:13“Ustedes sois la sal de la tierra; pero si la sal se vuelve insípida, ¿de qué sirve? A partir de entonces, no sirve para nada, sino para ser echada fuera y ser hollada por los hombres.

^5:14“Ustedes sois la luz del mundo. Una ciudad asentada sobre un monte no puede ser escondida. ^5:15Tampoco queman una lámpara y la ponen debajo de la cesta, sino sobre el candelero; y da luz a todos los que están en la casa. ^5:16Así deja que tu luz brille ante de todo, para que ellos puedan ver vuestras buenas obras; y pueden glorificar a vuestro Padre quien está en el Cielo”.

^5:17“No penséis que he venido a destruir la Ley, o los Profetas.

^5:33“Además, oísteis que fue dicho a los antiguos, ‘No jures falsamente’; pero ‘Harás tus juramentos a [Jehová]’. ^5:34Pero yo os digo: no juréis en absoluto; no por el cielo: porque es el trono de Dios; ^5:35tampoco por la tierra: porque es el estrado de sus pies; tampoco por Jerusalén: porque es la ciudad del gran Rey. ^5:36Tampoco puedes jurar por tu cabeza: porque no puedes hacer ni incluso un solo cabello blanco o negro. ^5:37Pero deja que tu palabra sea: ‘Sí, sí’: ‘No, no’: porque cualquier cosa que es más que estos viene del mal.

^5:38“Oísteis que fue dicho, ‘Un ojo por ojo, y un diente por diente’. ^5:39Pero yo os digo, no resistáis el mal; pero cualquiera que te golpee en tu mejilla derecha, gira la otra hacia él también. ^5:40y si algún hombre te demandará en la corte y te quitará el abrigo, deje que él también tenga tu capa; ^5:41y cualquiera que te obligue a ir una milla, ve con él dos veces más lejos. ^5:42Da a él eso pide de usted; y desde él que quiere pedir prestado desde usted, no le rechaces”.

¶El complemento   Haced vuestra caridad, oraciones y ayuno como para Dios y no para la alabanza externa de los hombres (5:43 - 6:18)

^5:43“Oísteis que fue dicho, ‘‘Amarás a tu prójimo’, y ‘Aborrecerás a tu enemigo’’; ^5:44pero yo os digo: amad a vuestros enemigos, bendecid a los que os maldicen, haced bien a los que os aborrecen, y orad por los quien os ultrajan y os persiguen; ^5:45para que seáis el niños de vuestro Padre quien está en el Cielo: porque él hace su sol a subir sobre malos y buenos; y envía lluvia sobre el justos y el injustos: ^5:46porque si solo amáis a los que os aman, ¿qué recompensa tenéis? ¿Ni siquiera los recaudadores de impuestos hacen lo mismo? ^5:47Y si saludáis solamente a vuestros hermanos, ¿qué hacéis diferente que los pecadores? ¿Ni siquiera los recaudadores de impuestos hacen lo mismo? ^5:48Por lo tanto, sé perfectos, como vuestro Padre quien está en el Cielo es perfecto.

^6:1“Ten cuidado de no hacer vuestra caridad delante de los hombres, de ser visto por ellos; de lo contrario, no tenéis recompensa de vuestro Padre, quien está en el Cielo. ^6:2Por lo tanto, cuando hagas vuestra caridad, no soples la trompeta delante de ti, como hacen los hipócritas en las sinagogas y en las calles, para que puedan tener la gloria de los hombres. Verdaderamente os digo: tienen su recompensa. ^6:3Pero cuando haces caridad, no deje que la mano izquierda sepa lo que su mano derecha está haciendo; ^6:4para que tu caridad sea en secreta; y tu Padre que ve en secreto a sí mismo, te recompensará abiertamente.

^6:5“Y cuando ores, no seas como los hipócritas: porque ellos aman el orar en pie en las sinagogas y en las esquinas de las calles, para ser vistos de los hombres. Verdaderamente os digo: tienen su recompensa. ^6:6Pero tú, cuando ores, entra en tu alcoba, y cerrada tu puerta ora a tu Padre que está en secreto; y tu Padre que ve en lo secreto, te recompensará en público. ^6:7Y cuando ores, no uses vanas repeticiones, como hacen los Gentiles; que piensan que por su palabrería serán oídos. ^6:8No seáis, pues, semejantes a ellos: porque vuestro Padre sabe de qué cosas tenéis necesidad, antes que ustedes le pidáis”.

^6:9“Ustedes, pues, oraréis así: ‘Padre nuestro que estás en el Cielo, santificado sea tu Nombre. ^6:10Venga tu Reino. Hágase tu voluntad, así en la tierra como en el Cielo. ^6:11El pan nuestro de cada día, dánoslo hoy. ^6:12Y perdónanos nuestras deudas, como también nosotros perdonamos a nuestros deudores. ^6:13Y no nos metas en tentación, pero líbranos el Malo. Porque tuyo es el Reino, y el poder, y la gloria, por siempre. Amén’. ^6:14Porque si perdonáis a los hombres sus ofensas, vuestro Padre celestial también os perdonará a ustedes. ^6:15Pero si no perdonáis a los hombres sus ofensas, tampoco vuestro Padre os perdonará vuestras ofensas.

^6:16“Y cuando ayunéis, no seáis austeros, como los hipócritas: porque ellos demudan sus rostros para parecer a los hombres que ayunan. Verdaderamente os digo: tienen su recompensa. ^6:17Pero tú, cuando ayunes, unge tu cabeza y lava tu rostro; ^6:18para no parecer a los hombres que ayunas, sino a tu Padre que está en secreto; y tu Padre que ve en lo secreto, te recompensará en público”.

¶Único   Buscad el Reino de Dios primero internamente, y todas las necesidades externas se agregarán a ustedes (6:19 - 34)

^6:19“No os hagáis tesoros en la tierra, donde la polilla y el orín corrompen, y donde ladrones minan y hurtan. ^6:20Pero haceos tesoros en el Cielo, donde ni la polilla, ni el orín corrompen, y donde ladrones no minan ni hurtan: ^6:21porque donde esté vuestro tesoro, allí estará también vuestro corazón.

^6:22“La lámpara del cuerpo es el ojo; así que, si tu ojo fuere sincero, todo tu cuerpo estará lleno de luz. ^6:23Pero si tu ojo fuere maligno, todo tu cuerpo estará en oscuridad. Así que, si la luz que hay en ti es tinieblas, ¿cuánto más lo serán las mismas tinieblas?”.

^6:24“Ninguno puede servir a dos señores: porque o aborrecerá al uno, y amará al otro; o apreciará al uno, y menospreciará al otro. No podéis servir a Dios y a las riquezas.

^6:25“Por tanto os digo: no os afanéis por vuestra vida, qué habéis de comer, o qué habéis de beber; ni por vuestro cuerpo, qué habéis de vestir. ¿No es la vida más que el alimento, y el cuerpo más que el vestido? ^6:26Mirad las aves del cielo, que no siembran, ni siegan, ni recogen en graneros; y vuestro Padre celestial las alimenta. ¿No sois ustedes mucho mejores que ellas? ^6:27¿Y quién de ustedes podrá, por mucho que se afane, añadir a su estatura un codo? ^6:28Y por el vestido, ¿por qué os afanáis? Considerad los lirios del campo, cómo crecen; no trabajan ni hilan; ^6:29pero os digo, que ni aun Salomón con toda su gloria se vistió como uno de ellos. ^6:30Y si a la hierba del campo que hoy es, y mañana es echada en el horno, Dios la viste así, ¿no hará mucho más por ustedes, hombres de poca fe? ^6:31Por tanto, no os afanéis, diciendo, ‘¿Qué comeremos, o qué beberemos, o qué vestiremos?’ ^6:32(porque los gentiles paganos buscan todas estas cosas): pero vuestro Padre celestial sabe que tenéis necesidad de todas estas cosas. ^6:33Pero buscad primero el reino de Dios y su justicia, y todas estas cosas os serán añadidas.

^6:34“Así que, no os afanéis por el mañana, para el día siguiente estará ansioso por las cosas de sí mismo; suficiente para el día es su propio mal”.

§El complemento   Conclusión: La justicia externa de los hijos del Reino de los Cielos (7:1 - 27)

¶El complemento   Haced a los demás como ustedes quieren que otros hagan a ustedes (7:1 - 12)

^7:1“No juzguéis, para que no seáis juzgados: ^7:2porque con el juicio con que juzgáis, seréis juzgados, y con la medida con que medís, os volverán a medir. ^7:3¿Y por qué miras la paja que está en el ojo de tu hermano, pero no consideras la viga que está en tu propio ojo? ^7:4¿O cómo dirás a tu hermano, ‘Déjame sacar la paja de tu ojo’; y he aquí, hay una viga en tu propio ojo? ^7:5¡Hipócrita! Saca primero la viga de tu propio ojo, entonces mirarás claramente para sacar la paja del ojo de tu hermano.

^7:6“No dé lo que es santo a los perros; ni echéis vuestras perlas delante de los puercos, no sea que las pisoteen, y se vuelvan y os despedacen”.

^7:7“Pedid, y se os dará; buscad, y hallaréis; llamad, y se os abrirá: ^7:8porque todo aquel que pide, recibe; y el que busca, halla; y al que llama, se le abrirá.

^7:9“¿Y qué hombre hay de ustedes, a quien si su hijo le pide pan, le dará una piedra? ^7:10¿O si le pide un pez, le dará una serpiente? ^7:11Pues si ustedes, siendo malos, sabéis dar buenas dádivas a vuestros hijos, ¿cuánto más vuestro Padre que está en el Cielo dará buenas cosas a los que le pidan?

^7:12“Así que, todas las cosas que queráis que los hombres os hagan, así también haced ustedes a ellos: porque esto es la Ley y los Profetas”.

¶El complemento   Tened cuidado de los profetas falsos y edificad vuestra vida sobre la Palabra de Jesucristo (7:13 - 27)

^7:13“Entrad por la puerta estrecha: porque ancha es la puerta, y espacioso el camino que lleva a la perdición y muchos son los que entran por ella.

^7:14“Porque estrecha es la puerta, y angosto el camino que lleva a la vida, y pocos son los que la hallan”.

^7:15“Guardaos de los falsos profetas, que vienen a ustedes vestidos de ovejas; pero por dentro son lobos rapaces. ^7:16Por sus frutos los conoceréis. ¿Se recogen uvas de los espinos, o higos de los abrojos? ^7:17Así todo buen árbol da buenos frutos, pero el árbol malo da malos frutos. ^7:18El árbol bueno no puede dar frutos malos, ni el árbol malo dar frutos buenos. ^7:19Todo árbol que no da buen fruto es cortado y echado en el fuego. ^7:20Así que, por sus frutos los conoceréis.

^7:21“No todo el que me dice, ‘Señor, Señor’, entrará en el Reino del Cielo; sino el que hace la voluntad de mi Padre quien está en el Cielo. ^7:22Muchos me dirán en aquel día, ‘Señor, Señor, ¿no profetizamos en tu Nombre, y en tu Nombre echamos fuera demonios, y en tu Nombre hicimos muchos milagros?’ ^7:23Y entonces les protestaré, ‘Nunca os conocí; apartaos de mí, obradores de maldad’.

^7:24“Cualquiera, pues, que oye estas mis palabras, y las hace, le compararé a un hombre prudente, que edificó su casa sobre la roca. ^7:25Y descendió lluvia, y vinieron ríos, y soplaron vientos, y golpearon contra aquella casa; y no cayó: porque estaba fundada sobre la roca. ^7:26Y todo el que oye estas mis palabras y no las hace, será comparado al hombre insensato, que edificó su casa sobre la arena; ^7:27y descendió lluvia, y vinieron ríos, y soplaron vientos, y dieron con ímpetu contra aquella casa; y cayó; y fue grande su ruina”.
