¶Complement   There is no need for another animal sacrifice for sin, so enter now into the Holiest by the blood of Jesus as a priest yourself (10:15 - 22)

¶Complement   But if you continue offering animal sacrifices, you will soon face the consequences of your rebellion against God (10:23 - 31)

¶Opposite   Jesus is the High Priest of the true Tabernacle in Heaven with the responsibility to offer something to God the Father (8:1 - 5)

^8:1Now of the things which we have spoken this is the main point: we have such a High Priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens: ^8:2a minister of the Sanctuary and of the true Tabernacle, which the Lord pitched and not man.

^8:3For every High Priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices;

therefore it was necessary that this man have something also to offer.

^8:4For if he was on earth, he would not be a priest, seeing that there are Levite priests that offer gifts according to the Law, ^8:5who serve according to the example and shadow of heavenly things;

as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the Tabernacle: for, “See,” says he, “that you make all things according to the pattern shown to you in the mountain.”

¶Opposite   The Old Covenant was replaced by the New Covenant, because the Jews did not continue in it (8:6 - 13)

^8:6But now has he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the Mediator of a better Covenant, which was established upon better promises:

^8:7for if that first Covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for the second.

^8:8For finding fault with them, he says, “‘Behold, the days are coming,’ says the Lord, ‘when I will make a New Covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah; ^8:9but not according to the Covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt: for they did not continue in my Covenant, and I did not regard them,’ says the Lord.

^8:10“‘For this is the Covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days,’ says the Lord, ‘I will put my Laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts; and I will be to them God, and they shall be to me a people. ^8:11And they shall not teach every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord’: for all shall know me, from the least unto the greatest: ^8:12for I will be merciful to their unrighteousness; and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.’”

^8:13In that he says “a New Covenant”, he has made the first Old. Now that which is decaying and growing old, is ready to vanish away.

^9:1Then truly the First Covenant also had ordinances of divine service, and an earthly Sanctuary: ^9:2for there was a Tabernacle made: the first, in which was the candlestick, and the table, and the showbread, which is called the Holy Place.

^9:3And after the second veil, the Tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all, ^9:4which had the golden censer, and the Ark of the Covenant overlaid round about with gold, in which was the golden pot that had manna, Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tablets of the Covenant; ^9:5and over it the cherubim of glory shadowing the mercy seat: of which we cannot now speak particularly.

^9:6Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests always went into the first Tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God.

^9:7But into the second went the high priest alone once every year; but not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people;

^9:8the Holy Spirit signifying by this, that the way into the Holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while the first Tabernacle was still standing; ^9:9which was a copy for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience, ^9:10which stood only in food and drinks, and various washings and fleshly ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.

¶Complement   The New Covenant was dedicated by Christ once with his own blood (9:11 - 17)

^9:11But Christ having come forth a High Priest of good things to come, through a greater and more perfect Tabernacle not made with hands (that is to say, not of this building); ^9:12neither with the blood of goats and calves, but with his own blood he entered in once into the Holy Place, having already obtained Eternal Redemption for us.

^9:13For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies to the purifying of the flesh, ^9:14how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the Eternal Spirit offered himself without spot unto God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

^9:15And for this reason, he is the Mediator of the New Covenant: that by means of death for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the First Covenant, they who are called might receive the promise of Eternal inheritance.

^9:16For where there is a will, there must also of necessity be the death of the who made the will: ^9:17for a will has force after men are dead;

otherwise it has no strength at all while the one making the will is alive.

¶Complement   The Old Covenant was dedicated by Moses once with the blood of calves and goats (9:18 - 22)

^9:18Therefore not even the First Covenant was dedicated without blood: ^9:19for when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the Law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water and scarlet wool and hyssop; and he sprinkled both the Book and all the people, ^9:20saying, “This is the blood of the Covenant which God has commanded to you.”

^9:21Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the Tabernacle,

and all the vessels of the ministry.

^9:22And almost all things are by the Law purged with blood.

And without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sin.

¶Opposite  Jesus entered into the Holy place as the High Priest with his blood to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself, once for all time (9:23 - 28)

^9:23Therefore it was necessary that the copies of things in the heavens should be purified with these animal sacrifices; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.

^9:24For Christ has not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the copies of the true;

but into Heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us.

^9:25Nor yet that he should offer himself many times, as the high priest enters into the holy place every year with blood of others ^9:26(for then must he have suffered many times since the beginning of the universe), but now once for all time in the consummation of the Ages, he has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.

^9:27And as it is appointed to men once to die (but after this the Judgment), ^9:28so also Christ was offered once for all time to bear the sins of many; and to them that look for him shall he appear the second time apart from sin unto salvation.

¶Opposite   Jesus became the final sacrifice for sin on the cross to replace the Old with the New Covenant (10:1 - 14)

^10:1For the Mosaic Law having a mere shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices (which they offer year by year into perpetuity) make the comers with them complete. ^10:2For then would they not have ceased to be offered? Because the worshipers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.

^10:3But in those sacrifices there is a reminder again of sins every year: ^10:4for it is impossible that the blood of bulls and of goats could take away sins.

^10:5Therefore when he comes into the world, he says, “Sacrifice and offering you did not desire; but a body have you perfected for me, ^10:6because in burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin you have had no pleasure. ^10:7Then I said, ‘See, I come (in the volume of the Book it is written of me) to do your will, O God.’”

^10:8Above when he said, “Sacrifice and offering and even whole burnt offerings for sin you did not desire; neither did you have pleasure in it” (which are offered by the Law), ^10:9then he said, “See, I come to do your will, O God.” He takes away the First Covenant, that he may establish the Second: ^10:10by which we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all time.

^10:11And every Levite priest stands daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins; ^10:12but this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins into perpetuity, sat down on the right hand of God, ^10:13from henceforth waiting until his enemies are made his footstool: ^10:14for by a single offering he has perfected into perpetuity them that are being sanctified.

§Unique   Conclusion: Enter into the Holiest by the blood of Jesus or face the consequences of your rebellion against God (10:15 - 31)

¶Complement   There is no need for another animal sacrifice for sin, so enter now into the Holiest by the blood of Jesus as a priest yourself (10:15 - 22)

^10:15Therefore the Holy Spirit also is a witness to us: for after he had said before, ^10:16“‘This is the Covenant that I will make with them after those days,’ says the Lord: ‘I will put my Laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; ^10:17and their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.’”

^10:18So where forgiveness of these are, there is no more need for another offering for sin.

^10:19Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter into the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, ^10:20by a new and living way, which he has consecrated for us through the veil (that is to say, his flesh);

^10:21and having a permanent High Priest over the House of God,

^10:22let us draw near to God with a true heart, in full assurance of faith; having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

¶Complement   But if you continue offering animal sacrifices, you will soon face the consequences of your rebellion against God (10:23 - 31)

^10:23Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering (for he is faithful that promised);

^10:24and let us consider one another, to provoke unto love and to good works; ^10:25not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is, but exhorting one another; and so much the more, as you see the Day approaching.

^10:26For if we deliberately continue sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins, ^10:27but a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

^10:28He that despised Moses’ Law died without mercy under two or three witnesses. ^10:29Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, shall he be thought worthy, who has trodden under foot the Son of God; and has counted the blood of the Covenant, with which he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and has outraged the Spirit of grace?

^10:30For we know him that has said, “‘Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay,’ says [Jehovah].” And again, “[Jehovah] shall judge his people.” ^10:31It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

^8:4porque si él estuviese sobre la tierra, ni siquiera sería sacerdote, habiendo aún sacerdotes que presentan ofrendas según la Ley; ^8:5los cuales sirven de ejemplo y sombra de las cosas celestiales;

como fue advertido por Dios a Moisés cuando estaba por comenzar el Tabernáculo, ‘Mira,’ dice, ‘haz todas las cosas conforme al modelo que te ha sido mostrado en el monte’.

^8:10“‘Porque éste es el Pacto que haré con la casa de Israel después de aquellos días,’ dice [Jehová], ‘Pondré mis Leyes en sus mentes, y las escribiré sobre sus corazones; y seré Dios a ellos, y ellos me serán a mí por pueblo; ^8:11y ninguno enseñará a su prójimo, ni ninguno a su hermano, diciendo, ‘Conoce [Jehová]’: porque todos me conocerán, desde el menor de ellos hasta el mayor: ^8:12porque seré propicio a sus injusticias, y de sus pecados y de sus iniquidades no me acordaré más’”.

^8:13Y al decir, “Nuevo Pacto”, da por viejo al primero. Y lo que es dado por viejo y se envejece, cerca está a desvanecerse.

^9:3Y tras el segundo velo estaba la parte del Tabernáculo que es llamado el Lugar Santísimo; ^9:4el cual tenía el incensario de oro, y el arca del pacto cubierta de todas partes alrededor de oro; en la que estaba una urna de oro que contenía el maná, y la vara de Aarón que reverdeció, y las tablas del Pacto; ^9:5y sobre ella los querubines de gloria que cubrían con su sombra el propiciatorio: cosas de las cuales no podemos ahora hablar en particular.

^9:6Y cuando estas cosas fueron así ordenadas, los sacerdotes siempre entraban en la primera parte del Tabernáculo para hacer los oficios del servicio a Dios.

^9:7Pero en la segunda parte, sólo el sumo sacerdote una vez al año, no sin sangre, la cual ofrecía por sí mismo, y por los pecados de ignorancia del pueblo.

^9:8Dando en esto a entender el Espíritu Santo, que aún no estaba descubierto el camino al lugar santísimo, entre tanto que el primer Tabernáculo estuviese en pie. ^9:9Lo cual era figura de aquel tiempo presente, en el cual se presentaban ofrendas y sacrificios que no podían hacer perfecto, en cuanto a la conciencia, al que servía con ellos; ^9:10ya que consistía sólo en comidas y bebidas, y en diversos lavamientos y ordenanzas acerca de la carne, que les fueron impuestas hasta el tiempo de la restauración.

¶El complemento   El Nuevo Pacto fue dedicado por Cristo una vez con su propia sangre (9:11 - 17)

^9:11Pero Cristo, habiendo venido adelante como Sumo Sacerdote de cosas buenas por venir, a través de un Tabernáculo mayor y más perfecto que no fue hecho con las manos, es decir, no de este edificio; ^9:12ni con la sangre de cabras y terneros, pero con su propia sangre él entró una vez en al Lugar Santo, habiendo obtenido ya Eterna Redención para nosotros.

^9:13Porque si la sangre de los toros y de las cabras, y las cenizas de una novilla, espolvoreando a los contaminados, santifica para la purificación de la carne, ^9:14¿cuánto más la sangre de Cristo (quien a través del Espíritu Eterno se ofreció sin mancha hasta Dios) purgará vuestras conciencias desde las obras muertas para servir al Dios viviente?

^9:15Y por esta razón, él es el Mediador del Nuevo Pacto, que por medio de la muerte para la redención de las transgresiones que estaban bajo el Primer Pacto, aquellos que son llamados podrían recibir la promesa de la herencia Eterna.

^9:16Porque donde hay un testamento, también es necesario que haya muerte del que hizo el testamento: ^9:17porque un testamento tiene fuerza después de la muerte de los hombres;

de lo contrario, ello no tiene ninguna fuerza mientras el que hace el testamento está vivo.

¶El complemento   El Antiguo Pacto fue dedicado por Moisés una vez con la sangre de terneros y cabras (9:18 - 22)

^9:18De donde ni aun el primer Pacto fue consagrado sin sangre: ^9:19porque habiendo hablado Moisés todos los Mandamientos de la Ley a todo el pueblo, tomando la sangre de los becerros y de los machos cabríos, con agua, y lana de grana, e hisopo, roció al mismo Libro, y también a todo el pueblo, ^9:20diciendo, “Ésta es la sangre del Pacto que Dios os ha mandado”.

^9:21Y además de esto roció también con sangre el Tabernáculo

y todos los vasos del ministerio.

^9:22Y casi todo es purificado según la Ley con sangre;

y sin derramamiento de sangre, no hay perdón de pecado.

¶Lo opuesto   Jesús entró en el Lugar Santísimo en el Cielo con su sangre para quitar el pecado, una vez para siempre (9:23 - 28)

^9:23Fue, pues, necesario que las figuras de las cosas celestiales fuesen purificadas con estas cosas; pero las cosas celestiales mismas, con mejores sacrificios que éstos:

^9:24porque no entró Cristo en el santuario hecho de mano, figura del verdadero,

sino en el mismo Cielo para presentarse ahora por nosotros en la presencia de Dios.

^9:25Y no para ofrecerse muchas veces a sí mismo, como entra el sumo sacerdote en el lugar santísimo cada año con san gre ajena ^9:26(de otra manera le hubiera sido necesario padecer muchas veces desde el principio del mundo), pero ahora en la consumación de los siglos, se presentó una sola vez por el sacrificio de sí mismo para quitar el pecado.

^9:27Y como está designado para que los hombres mueran una vez (pero después de esto el Juicio); ^9:28así también Cristo fue ofrecido una vez [para siempre] para llevar los pecados de muchos; y para los que le buscan, aparecerá un segunda vez aparte desde el pecado para la salvación.

¶Lo opuesto   Jesús se convirtió en el sacrificio final por el pecado en la cruz para reemplazar el Antiguo con el Nuevo Pacto (10:1 - 14)

^10:1Para la Ley Mosaica, teniendo una mera sombra de cosas buenas venir, y no la imagen misma de las cosas, con esos sacrificios (cual ofrecen año a año hasta perpetuidad), nunca puede hacer que los que vienen con ellos completen. ^10:2Para entonces, ¿no habrían cesado ser ofrecido? Porque los adoradores, purgados una vez, no deberían haber tenido ninguna más conciencia de pecado.

^10:3Pero, en esos sacrificios, hay un recordatorio otra vez de pecados cada año: ^10:4porque es imposible que la sangre de toros y cabras pueda quitar los pecados.

^10:5Por lo tanto, cuando él entra en el mundo, dice, “Sacrificio y ofrenda, no deseaste; pero un cuerpo, usted ha perfeccionado para mí: ^10:6porque en holocaustos y sacrificios por el pecado, no has tenido placer. ^10:7Entonces dije, ‘He aquí, vengo (en el volumen del Libro ello está escrito de mí) a hacer tu voluntad, oh Dios’”.

^10:8Encima cuando dijo, “Sacrificio y ofrenda, e incluso ofrendas quemadas enteros por el pecado no deseaste, ni tuviste placer en ello” (que son ofrecidos por la Ley). ^10:9Entonces dijo, “He aquí, vengo a hacer tu voluntad, oh Dios.” Él quita el primer Pacto, para que él pueda establecer el segundo: ^10:10por el cual hemos sido santificados a través de la ofrenda del cuerpo de Jesucristo una vez para todo el tiempo.

^10:11Y todo sacerdote Levita está parado todos los días ministrando y ofreciendo muchas veces los mismos sacrificios, que nunca pueden quitar los pecados. ^10:12Pero este hombre, después él había ofrecido uno sacrificio por los pecados hasta perpetuidad, se sentó a la diestra de Dios, ^10:13desde ese momento en adelante esperando hasta que sus enemigos son hechos su escabel: ^10:14porque con una sola ofrenda él ha perfeccionado para perpetuidad a los que están siendo santificados.

¶El complemento   No hay necesidad de otro sacrificio, así que entra ahora en el Lugar Santísimo por la sangre de Jesús como sacerdote ti mismo (10:15 - 22)

^10:15Por lo tanto, el Espíritu Santo también es un testigo a nosotros: porque después de que él hubo dicho antes, ^10:16“‘Éste es el Pacto que haré con ellos después de esos días,’ dice [Jehová], ‘Pondré mis Leyes en sus corazones, y en sus mentes las escribiré; ^10:17y sus pecados e iniquidades no recordaré más’”.

^10:18Entonces, dónde el perdón de estos son, no hay necesidad de otra ofrenda por el pecado.

^10:19Por lo tanto, hermanos, teniendo audacia para entrar en el lugar santísimo por la sangre de Jesús, ^10:20por un camino nuevo y vivo cual él ha consagrado para nosotros a través del velo (es decir, su carne);

^10:21y teniendo un Sumo Sacerdote permanente sobre la Casa de Dios,

^10:22acerquémonos a Dios con corazón sincero, en plena certidumbre de fe: teniendo nuestros corazones purificados desde una mala conciencia, y nuestros cuerpos lavados con agua pura.

¶El complemento   Pero si seguís ofreciendo sacrificios de animales, pronto enfrentarás las consecuencias de vuestro rebelión contra Dios (10:23 - 31)

^10:23Mantengámonos firmes la profesión de nuestra fe sin vacilante (porque él es fiel quien prometió);

^10:24y déjanos consideremos el uno al otro, para provocar a amor y las buenas obras; ^10:25no abandonando la reunión de nosotros mismos juntos, como la manera de algunos es, sino exhortando unos a otros; y tanto más, como veis que se acerca el Día.

^10:26Porque si continuamos pecando deliberadamente, después de hemos recibido el conocimiento de la verdad, no hay mas sacrificio por los pecados, ^10:27sino una cierta expectativa temerosa de juicio e indignación de fuego, el cual devorará a los adversarios.

^10:28Él que despreciaba la ley de Moisés murió sin misericordia bajo dos o tres testigos. ^10:29¿De cuánto peor castigo supones, se le considerará digno, quién ha pisado bajo los pies al Hijo de Dios, y ha contado la sangre del pacto, con la cual fue santificado, una cosa profana, y ha ultrajado al Espíritu de gracia?

^10:30Porque le conocemos, quien ha dicho, “‘La venganza me pertenece; pagaré,’ dice [Jehová].” Y otra vez, “[Jehová] juzgará a su pueblo.” ^10:31Es un horroroso cosa es caer en manos del Dios vivo!
