^5:3For truly, as absent in body, but present in spirit, I have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that has so done this deed: ^5:4in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when you are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, ^5:5to deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the Day of the Lord Jesus.

^5:6Your glorying is not good. Do you not know that a little yeast leavens the whole lump of dough? ^5:7Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, as you are unleavened.

For even Christ our Passover was sacrificed for us; ^5:8therefore let us keep the feast; but not with old leaven; neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

¶Opposite   Do not celebrate the Lord’s Table with the sinning brother (5:9 - 13)

^5:9I wrote to you in a letter not to associate with fornicators;

^5:10yet not completely from the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortionists, or with idolaters: for then you would be obliged to leave the world.

^5:11But now I have written to you not to associate, if any man that is called a Christian brother is a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortionist: with such a one, no, you should not even eat.

^5:12For what have I to do to judge them also that are outside? Do you not judge them that are within?

^5:13But them that are outside God judges; therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.

How much more things that pertain to this life? ^6:4If then you have judgments of things pertaining to this life, set them to judge who are least esteemed in the Assembly.

^6:5I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? No, not even one that shall be able to judge between his brethren? ^6:6But brother goes to civil court with brother, and that before the unbelievers.

^6:7Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because you go to court one with another. Why do you not rather take wrong? Why do you not rather allow yourselves to be defrauded? ^6:8No, you do wrong, and defraud, and that your own brethren.

^6:9Do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the Kingdom of God? Be not deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexuals, ^6:10nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortionists shall inherit the Kingdom of God.

^6:11And such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the Name of the Lord Jesus, and in the Spirit of our God.

¶Opposite   Flee fornication, because your body is a Temple of the Holy Spirit (6:12 - 20)

^6:12All things are lawful to me, but all things are not good; all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

^6:13Food is for the belly, and the belly for food; but God shall destroy both it and them.

Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord is for the body; ^6:14and God has both raised up the Lord Jesus, and will also raise up us by his own power. ^6:15Do you not know that your bodies are the parts of Christ’s Body? Shall I then take the parts of Christ’s Body, and make them the parts of a prostitute’s body? Certainly not.

^6:16What? Do you not know that he who is joined to a prostitute is one body? For he says, “Two shall be one flesh.” ^6:17But he that is joined to the Lord is one spirit. ^6:18Therefore, flee fornication. Every sin that a man does is outside the body; but he that commits fornication sins against his own body.

^6:19What? Do you not know that your body is a Temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you; which you have of God, and you are not your own? ^6:20For you were redeemed for a price; therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

¶Complement   A healthy sexual relationship with your spouse helps prevent fornication (7:1 - 5)

^7:1Now concerning the things of which you wrote to me: it is good for a man not to touch a woman.

^7:2Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.

^7:3Let the husband render to the wife due benevolence; and likewise also the wife to the husband. ^7:4The wife does not have power of her own body, but the husband; and likewise also the husband does not have power of his own body, but the wife.

^7:5Do not defraud one the other, unless it is with agreement for a time, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer;

and come together again, so that Satan does not tempt you for your lack of self control.

¶Complement   Marriage is preferable to the single life if lust is a problem (7:6 - 17)

^7:6But I speak this by permission, and not of Scriptural command: ^7:7for I wish that all men were single even as I myself. But every man has his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.

^7:8Therefore I say to the unmarried and widows: it is good for them if they remain single even as I; ^7:9but if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn with lust.

^7:10And to the married I command (yet not I, but the Lord): let not the wife depart from her husband; ^7:11but in case she does depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband; and let not the husband divorce his wife.

^7:12But to the rest I speak (not the Lord): if any brother has a wife that does not believe, and she is pleased to dwell with him, let him not divorce her. ^7:13And the woman who has an husband that does not believe, and if he is pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him: ^7:14for the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband; otherwise your children were unclean; but now they are holy.

^7:15But if the unbelieving spouse leaves, let him leave. A Christian brother or a sister is not under bondage in such situations; but God has called us to peace. ^7:16For how do you know, O Christian wife, whether you shall save your husband? Or how do you know, O Christian man, whether you shall save your wife? ^7:17But as God has distributed to every man, as the Lord has called every one, so let him walk. And so I ordain in all Assemblies.

¶Unique   Freedom is always preferable to slavery (7:18 - 24)

^7:18Is any man called in Christ being circumcised? Let him not become uncircumcised. Is any called in uncircumcision? Let him not be circumcised.

^7:19Circumcision is unimportant, and uncircumcision is unimportant; but the observance of the Commandments of God is important.

^7:20Let every man remain in the same calling in which he was called. ^7:21Were you called while you were a slave? Care not for it; but if you may be made free, use it rather: ^7:22for he that was called in the Lord being a slave of men, is the Lord’s freeman. Likewise also he that was called, being free, is Christ’s slave.

^7:23You were redeemed for a price; do not be the slaves of men.

^7:24Brethren, let every man, in whatever he was called, remain with God in it.

§Complement   Conclusion: Marriage is a permanent committment; make sure it is the will of God before entering into it (7:25 - 40)

¶Complement   In certain situations, it is preferable to remain single (7:25 - 35)

^7:25Now concerning virgins I have no written Commandment of the Lord; yet I give my judgment, as one that has obtained mercy of the Lord to be faithful. ^7:26Therefore I suppose that this is good for the current distress, that it is good for a man to be single. ^7:27Are you bound to a wife? Do not seek to be released. Are you released from a wife? Do not seek a wife. ^7:28But if you do marry, you have not sinned. And if a virgin marries, she has not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh; but I spare you.

^7:29But I say this, brethren: the time is short. It remains, that both they that have wives, be as though they had none; ^7:30and they that weep, as though they did not weep; and they that rejoice, as though they did not rejoice; and they that buy, as though they did not possess; ^7:31and they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world is passing away.

^7:32But I would have you without anxiety. He that is unmarried cares for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord; ^7:33but he that is married cares for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.

^7:34There is a difference also between a wife and a virgin woman. The unmarried woman cares for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit; but she that is married cares for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.

^7:35And I speak this for your own benefit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is proper, and that you may attend upon the Lord without distraction.

^7:36But if any man thinks that he behaves himself improperly towards his virgin daughter, if she passes the flower of her age, and need so require, let him do what he wishes; he does not sin: let them marry. ^7:37Nevertheless he that stands steadfast in his heart, having no necessity, but has power over his own will, and has so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virgin, does well.

^7:38So then he that gives her in marriage does well; but he that gives her not in marriage does better.

^7:39The wife is bound by the Law, as long as her husband is living;

but if her husband is dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she wishes: only in the Lord.

^7:40But she is happier, if she so remains single, after my judgment; and I think also that I have the Spirit of God.

^5:6No es buena vuestra jactancia. ¿No sabéis que un poco de levadura leuda todo el trozo de masa? ^5:7Limpiaos, pues, de la vieja levadura, para que seáis nueva masa, como sois sin levadura.

Porque incluso Cristo nuestra Pascua fue sacrificado por nosotros; ^5:8por tanto, celebremos la fiesta de la mesa del Señor, no con la vieja levadura, ni con la levadura de malicia y de maldad, sino con panes sin levadura de sinceridad y de verdad.

^5:9Os he escrito por carta, que no os asociéis con los fornicarios;

^5:10pero no del todo con los fornicarios de este mundo, o con los avaros, o con los ladrones, o con los idólatras; pues entonces os sería necesario salir del mundo.

^5:11Pero ahora os he escrito, que no os asociéis con ninguno que, llamándose hermano, sea fornicario, o avaro, o idólatra, o maldiciente, o borracho, o ladrón, con el tal ni aun comáis.

^5:12Porque ¿qué me va a mí en juzgar a los que están fuera? ¿No juzgáis ustedes a los que están dentro?

^5:13Porque a los que están fuera, Dios juzgará. Quitad, pues, a ese perverso de entre ustedes.

^6:5Para vuestra vergüenza lo digo. ¿Será así, que no haya entre ustedes sabio, ni siquiera uno que pueda juzgar entre sus hermanos? ^6:6Sino que el hermano con el hermano pleitea en juicio, y esto ante los incrédulos.

^6:7Así que, por cierto es ya una falta en ustedes que tengáis pleitos entre ustedes mismos. ¿Por qué no sufrís más bien el agravio? ¿Por qué no sufrís más bien el ser defraudados? ^6:8Pero ustedes hacéis la injuria, y defraudáis, y esto a vuestros hermanos.

^6:9¿No sabéis que los injustos no heredarán el Reino de Dios? No os engañéis: ni los fornicarios, ni los idólatras, ni los adúlteros, ni hombre prostitutos, ni homosexuales, ^6:10ni los ladrones, ni los avaros, ni los borrachos, ni los maldicientes, ni los estafadores, heredarán el Reino de Dios.

^6:11Y esto erais algunos de ustedes; pero ya sois lavados, ya sois santificados, ya sois justificados en el Nombre del Señor Jesús, y por el Espíritu de nuestro Dios.

Porque dice, “Los dos serán una sola carne”. ^6:17Pero el que se une al Señor, un espíritu es. ^6:18Huid de la fornicación. Todo pecado que el hombre comete, está fuera del cuerpo; pero el que fornica, contra su propio cuerpo peca.

^6:19¿Qué? Ignoráis que vuestro cuerpo es un templo del Espíritu Santo que está en ustedes, el cual tenéis de Dios, y que no sois vuestros? ^6:20Porque comprados sois por precio; glorificad, pues, a Dios en vuestro cuerpo y en vuestro espíritu, los cuales son de Dios.

¶El complemento   Una relación sexual saludable con su cónyuge ayuda a prevenir la fornicación (7:1 - 5)

^7:1En cuanto a las cosas de que me escribisteis, bueno es al hombre no tocar mujer.

^7:2Pero para evitar fornicaciones, cada varón tenga su propia esposa, y cada mujer tenga su propio marido.

^7:3El marido pague a su esposa la debida benevolencia; y asimismo la esposa a su marido. ^7:4La esposa no tiene potestad de su propio cuerpo, sino el marido; e igualmente tampoco el marido tiene potestad de su propio cuerpo, sino la esposa.

^7:5No os defraudéis el uno al otro, a no ser por algún tiempo de mutuo consentimiento, para ocuparos en ayuno y oración;

y volved a juntaros en uno, para que no os tiente Satanás a causa de vuestra incontinencia.

¶El complemento   El matrimonio es preferible a la vida de soltero si la lujuria es un problema (7:6 - 17)

^7:6Pero esto digo por permisión, no por Mandamiento. ^7:7Quisiera más bien que todos los hombres fuesen como yo; pero cada uno tiene su propio don de Dios; uno de una manera, y otro de otra.

^7:8Digo, pues, a los solteros y a las viudas, que bueno les sería si se quedasen como yo, ^7:9pero si no pueden contenerse, cásense; que mejor es casarse que quemarse.

^7:10Y a los casados mando, no yo, sino el Señor: que la esposa no se separe de su marido; ^7:11y si se separa, que se quede sin casar, o reconcíliese con su marido; y que el marido no abandone a su esposa.

^7:12Y a los demás yo digo, no el Señor: si algún hermano tiene esposa no creyente en Cristo, y ella consiente en habitar con él, no la despida. ^7:13Y la mujer que tiene marido no creyente, y él consiente en habitar con ella, no lo deje: ^7:14porque el marido no creyente es santificado en la esposa, y la esposa no creyente en el marido; pues de otra manera vuestros hijos serían inmundos; pero ahora son santos.

^7:15Pero si el no creyente se separa, sepárese. En tales casos el hermano o la hermana no están sujetos a servidumbre; antes a paz nos llamó Dios: ^7:16porque ¿de dónde sabes, oh esposa, si harás salvo a tu incrédulo marido? ¿O de dónde sabes, oh marido, si quizá harás salva a tu incrédulo esposa? ^7:17Pero cada uno como Dios le repartió, y como el Señor llamó a cada uno, así ande. Y así ordeno en todas las Asambleas.

¶Único   La libertad siempre es preferible a la esclavitud (7:18 - 24)

^7:18¿Es llamado alguno siendo circunciso? Quédese circunciso. ¿Es llamado alguno incircunciso? Que no se circuncide.

^7:19La circuncisión nada es, y la incircuncisión nada es, sino el guardar los Mandamientos de Dios.

^7:20Cada uno quédese en el llamamiento en que fue llamado. ^7:21¿Eres llamado siendo siervo? No te dé cuidado; pero si puedes hacerte libre, procúralo más: ^7:22porque el que en el Señor es llamado siendo siervo, liberto es del Señor; asimismo también el que es llamado siendo libre, siervo es de Cristo.

^7:23Por precio sois comprados; no os hagáis siervos de los hombres.

^7:24Cada uno, hermanos, en lo que es llamado, en ello permanezca con Dios

No procures soltarte. ¿Estás libre de esposa? No procures esposa. ^7:28Pero también si te casas, no pecaste; y si la virgen se casa, no pecó; sin embargo tales tendrán problemas en la carne, pero me ahorraré.

^7:29Pero esto digo, hermanos, que el tiempo es corto; resta, pues, que los que tienen esposa sean como si no la tuviesen, ^7:30y los que lloran, como si no llorasen; y los que se regocijan, como si no se regocijasen; y los que compran, como si no poseyesen; ^7:31y los que disfrutan de este mundo, como no abusando de ello: porque la apariencia de este mundo se pasa.

^7:32Quisiera, pues, que estuvieseis sin ansiedad. El soltero tiene cuidado de las cosas que son del Señor, de cómo ha de agradar al Señor; ^7:33pero el casado tiene cuidado de las cosas del mundo, de cómo ha de agradar a su esposa.

^7:34También hay diferencia entre la casada y la virgen. La soltera tiene cuidado de las cosas del Señor, para ser santa así en cuerpo como en espíritu; pero la casada tiene cuidado de las cosas del mundo, de cómo ha de agradar a su marido.

^7:35Y esto digo para vuestro provecho; no para tenderos lazo, sino para lo honesto y decente, y para que sin impedimento os acerquéis al Señor.

¶El complemento   Una mujer está obligada por la ley a permanecer casado con su esposo mientras él viva (7:36 - 40)

^7:36Pero si alguno considera que se va a comportar indecorosamente hacia su virgen y si ella está en la flor de la edad, y necesita así hacerlo, haga lo que quiera, no peca. Cásense. ^7:37Pero el que está firme en su corazón, y no tiene necesidad, sino que tiene potestad sobre su propia voluntad, y determinó en su corazón el conservarla virgen, bien hace.

^7:38Así que el que la da en casamiento, bien hace; y el que no la da en casamiento hace mejor.

^7:39La esposa está atada a la Ley mientras vive su marido;

sino si su marido muere, libre es; cásese con quien quiera, con tal que sea en el Señor.

^7:40Pero a mi parecer, será más dichosa si se queda así; y pienso que también yo tengo el Espíritu de Dios.
