For that is even the same as if she was shaven: ^11:6for if the woman is not covered, let her also be shorn; but if it is a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered. ^11:7For a man indeed should not cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of the man.

^11:8For the man is not of the woman, but the woman of the man; ^11:9neither was the man created for the woman, but the woman was created for the man. ^11:10For this reason the woman is under obligation to have a cover upon the head because of the angels. ^11:11Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman; nor is the woman without the man, in the Lord: ^11:12for as the woman was made out of the man, even so the man also was born through the woman; but all things were originally created out of God.

^11:13Judge in yourselves: is it proper that a woman prays to God uncovered? ^11:14Does not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man has long hair, it is a shame to him? ^11:15But if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair has been given her for a covering.

^11:16But if anyone wants to argue about this, we have no other custom, and neither do the Assemblies of God.

¶Opposite   Observe the Supper of the Lord in an orderly and dignified manner (11:17 - 34)

^11:17Now in this that I declare to you, I do not praise you, that you come together not for the better, but for the worse. ^11:18For first of all, when you come together in the Assembly, I hear that there are divisions among you; and I partly believe it: ^11:19for there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you. ^11:20Therefore when you come together into the same place, you are not truly eating the Lord’s supper: ^11:21for in eating everyone takes before others his own supper; and one is hungry, and another is drunk.

^11:22What? Do you not have houses to eat and to drink in? Or do you despise the Assembly of God, and shame them that do not have? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you in this? I do not praise you.

^11:23For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus, the same night in which he was betrayed, took bread; ^11:24and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “Take, eat: this is a symbol of my body, which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of me.” ^11:25After the same manner also he took the cup, after he had eaten, saying, “This cup is a symbol of the New Covenant in my blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” ^11:26For as often as you eat this bread, and drink this cup, you are celebrating the death of the Lord until he comes again.

^11:27Therefore whosoever shall eat this bread and drink this cup of the Lord unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. ^11:28But let a man examine himself, and thus let him eat of the bread, and drink of the cup: ^11:29for he that eats and drinks unworthily, eats and drinks condemnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body: ^11:30for this reason many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep in death. ^11:31For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged; ^11:32but when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, so that we should not be condemned with the world.

^11:33Therefore, my brethren, when you come together to eat, wait one for another. ^11:34And if any man is hungry, let him eat at home, that you do not come together to condemnation. And the rest will I set in order when I come.

^12:1Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant. ^12:2You know that you were heathen, carried away to these mute idols, even as you were led. ^12:3Therefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed; and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Spirit.

^12:4Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. ^12:5And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. ^12:6And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God who works all in all. ^12:7But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to benefit from it: ^12:8for to one is given by the Spirit the Word of wisdom; to another the Word of knowledge by the same Spirit; ^12:9to another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; ^12:10to another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another various kinds of languages; to another the interpretation of languages. ^12:11But all these are working that one and the selfsame Spirit, distributing to each one respectively as he appoints. ^12:12For as the human body is one, but has many parts, and all the parts of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ: ^12:13for in the same Spirit we were all baptized into one Body, whether we were Jews or Gentiles, whether we were slave or free; and have been all made to drink into the same Spirit.

^12:14For the body is not one part, but many. ^12:15If the foot shall say, “Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body”, is it therefore not of the body? ^12:16And if the ear shall say, “Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body”, is it therefore not of the body? ^12:17If the whole body was an eye, where is the hearing? If the whole was hearing, where is the smelling? ^12:18But now God has set the parts every one of them in the body, as it has pleased him. ^12:18And if they were all one part, where is the body? ^12:20But now they are many parts, but yet only one body. ^12:21And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”: nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” ^12:22No, much more those parts of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary; ^12:23and those parts of the body, which we think to be less honorable, upon these we bestow more abundant honor; and our unattractive parts have more abundant comeliness. ^12:24For our pleasing parts have no need; but God has tempered the body together, having given more abundant honor to that part which lacked, ^12:25that there should be no schism in the body; but that the parts should have the same care one for another. ^12:26And whether one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it; or if one part is honored, all the parts rejoice with it.

^12:27Now all of you are a Body of Christ, and parts in particular. ^12:28And God has set some in the Assembly: first Apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healing, helps, governments, and varieties of languages.

^12:29Are all Apostles? No. Are all prophets? Are all teachers? No. Are all workers of miracles? No. ^12:30Do all have the gifts of healing? No. Do all speak with foreign languages? No. Do all interpret? No. ^12:31But desire earnestly the best gifts. And yet now I show you a much better way.

¶Opposite   Selfless love will continue forever, so it is the most important of all spiritual gifts (13:1 - 13)

^13:1Though I speak with the speeches of men and of angels, but have not selfless love, I have become as a noisy brass instrument, or a tinkling cymbal. ^13:2And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not selfless love, I am nothing. ^13:3And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not selfless love, it does me no good.

^13:4Selfless love suffers long, and is kind; selfless love does not envy; selfless love does not vaunt itself, is not proud, ^13:5does not behave itself unseemly, does not seek her own, is not easily provoked, does not think evil; ^13:6rejoices not in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; ^13:7bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things.

^13:8Selfless love never ceases; but whether there are prophecies, they shall come to an end; whether there are gifts of foreign languages, they shall cease of their own accord; whether there is knowledge, it shall also come to an end. ^13:9For we know in part; and we prophesy in part. ^13:10But when that which is complete has come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

^13:11When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, and I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see as through a mirror, dimly; but then face to face. ^13:12Now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

^13:13And now faith, hope, and selfless love remains forever, these three; but the greatest of these is selfless love.

¶Complement   Preach only in the native language so that all will understand and be edified (14:1 - 14)

^14:1Follow after selfless love, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that you may prophesy: ^14:2for he that speaks in a foreign language does not speak to men, but to God, because no man understands him; even though in the spirit he speaks spiritual mysteries.

^14:3But he that prophesies speaks to men for edification, exhortation, and comfort. ^14:4He that speaks in a foreign language strengthens himself; but he that prophesies edifies the Assembly.

^14:5Now I want all of you to speak with foreign languages, but I wish rather that you prophesied: for greater is he that prophesies than he that speaks with foreign languages, unless he interprets, so that the Assembly may receive edification.

^14:6Now, brethren, if I come to you speaking with foreign languages what good shall I do you, unless I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by teaching? ^14:7And even lifeless things which make a sound, whether pipe or harp, unless they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped? ^14:8For if the trumpet gives an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle? ^14:9So likewise you, unless you utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? For you shall speak into the air. ^14:10There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them are without meaning. ^14:11Therefore if I do not know the meaning of the voice, I shall be to him that speaks as a foreigner, and he that speaks shall be as a foreigner to me. ^14:12Even so you, forasmuch as you are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that you may abound to the edification of the Assembly.

^14:13Therefore let him that speaks in a false language pray that he may interpret: ^14:14for if I pray in a false language, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.

¶Complement   Pray, sing, and preach the Word of God with the understanding, not in gibberish or a foreign language (14:15 - 22)

^14:15What, then, is the correct way? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also; I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

^14:16Otherwise when you shall give thanks with the spirit, how shall he that occupies the room of the uneducated say “Amen” at your giving of thanks, seeing he does not understand what you say?

^14:17For you truly give thanks well, but the other is not edified.

^14:18I thank my God, I speak with foreign languages more than all of you, ^14:19yet in the Assembly I would rather speak five words with my understanding (that I might teach others also), than ten thousand words in a foreign language.

^14:20Brethren, do not be children in understanding (nevertheless in malice be children, but in understanding be men): ^14:21in the Law it is written, “‘With men of other languages and other lips will I speak to this people; and yet for all that they will not listen to me,’ says [Jehovah].” ^14:22Therefore the gift of foreign languages is for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that do not believe; but prophesying does not serve for them that do not believe, but for them who do believe.

¶Unique   All preaching in foreign languages in the Assembly must have an interpreter (14:23 - 27)

^14:23If therefore the whole Assembly has come together into one place, and all speak with foreign languages, and there come in those that are uneducated, or unbelievers, will they not say that you are crazy?

^14:24But if all prophesy, and one comes in that does not yet believe in Christ, or one uneducated, he is convinced of all, and he is judged of all; ^14:25and in this manner the secrets of his heart are revealed; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is truly in you.

^14:26What, then, is it, brethren? When you come together, every one of you has a psalm, has a doctrine, has a language, has a revelation, and has an interpretation.

Let all things be done toward edification.

^14:27If any man speaks in a foreign language, let it be by two, or at the most by three (andthat by turn), and let one interpret.

^14:36What? Did the Word of God come out from you? Or did it come only to you? ^14:37If any man thinks himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write to you are the Commandments of the Lord.

^14:39Therefore, brethren, be zealous to prophesy; and do not forbid to speak with languages. ^14:40Let all things be done decently, and in order.

^11:23Porque yo recibí del Señor lo que también os he entregado, que el Señor Jesús, la misma noche en que fue traicionado, tomó pan; ^11:24y habiendo dado gracias, lo partió, y dijo, “Tomad, comed; esto es un símbolo de mi cuerpo, cual está roto para usted; haced esto en memoria de mí”. ^11:25Asimismo tomó también la copa, después de haber comido, diciendo, “Esta copa es un símbolo de el Nuevo Pacto en mi sangre; haced esto todas las veces que la bebiereis, en memoria de mí”. ^11:26Porque todas las veces que comiereis este pan, y bebiereis esta copa, la muerte del Señor anunciáis hasta que Él viene.

No. ¿Interpretan todos? No. ^12:31Pero desead fervientemente los mejores regalos. Y todavía ahora, os muestro una manera mucho mejor.

^13:1Si yo hablase lenguas humanas y angélicas, y no tengo amor desinteresado, vengo a ser como metal que resuena, o címbalo que retiñe. ^13:2Y si tuviese el don de profecía, y entendiese todos los misterios y toda ciencia; y si tuviese toda la fe, de tal manera que trasladase los montes, y no amor desinteresado, nada soy. ^13:3Y si repartiese todos mis bienes para dar de comer a los pobres, y si entregase mi cuerpo para ser quemado, y no amor desinteresado, de nada me sirve.

^13:4El amor desinteresado sufre mucho y es bondadoso; el amor desinteresado no envidia; el amor desinteresado no es jactanciosa, no es orgulloso, ^13:5no se comporta indecorosamente; no busca lo suyo, no se irrita fácilmente, no piensa el mal; ^13:6no se regocija en la iniquidad, sino en la verdad; ^13:7sufre todas las cosas, cree todas las cosas, espera todas las cosas, y perdura todas las cosas.

^13:8El amor desinteresado nunca cesa; pero si hay profecías, se acabarán; si hay dones de las lenguas extranjeras, cesarán por su propia cuenta; si hay conocimiento, también llegará a su fin: ^13:9porque sabemos en parte; y profetizamos en parte; ^13:10pero cuando aquello cual es completo ha llegado, entonces aquello cual es en parte se acabará.

^13:11Cuando yo era niño, hablaba como niño, pensaba como niño, juzgaba como niño, pero cuando ya fui hombre hecho, dejé lo que era de niño. ^13:12Y ahora vemos por espejo, oscuramente; pero entonces veremos cara a cara; ahora conozco en parte; pero entonces conoceré como soy conocido.

^13:13Y ahora permanecen la fe la esperanza y amor desinteresado, estas tres; pero la mayor de ellas es amor desinteresado.

¶El complemento   Predicad sólo en la lengua nativa para que todos entenderán y ser edificados (14:1 - 14)

^14:1Seguid amor desinteresado; y desead los dones espirituales, pero sobre todo que profeticéis: ^14:2porque el que habla en lengua extranjera, no habla a los hombres, sino a Dios; pues nadie le entiende, aunque en espíritu hable misterios.

^14:3Pero el que profetiza, habla a los hombres para edificación, y exhortación, y consolación. ^14:4El que habla en lengua extranjera, a sí mismo se edifica; pero el que profetiza, edifica a la Asamblea.

^14:5Ahora quiero que todos hablen con lenguas extranjeras, pero desearía más bien que profetizarais: porque mayor es el que profetiza que el que habla con lenguas extranjeras, a no ser que las interprete, para que la Asamblea podrá recibir edificación.

^14:6Ahora pues, hermanos, si yo vengo a ustedes hablando en lenguas extranjeras, ¿qué os aprovechará, si no os hablo, o con revelación, o con ciencia, o con profecía, o con doctrina? ^14:7Y aun las cosas inanimadas que hacen sonidos, ya sea la flauta, o el arpa; si no dieren distinción de sonidos, ¿cómo se sabrá lo que se toca con la flauta o con el arpa? ^14:8Y si la trompeta da un sonido incierto, ¿quién se preparará para la batalla? ^14:9Así también ustedes, si por la lengua no habláis palabra bien entendible, ¿cómo se sabrá lo que se dice? Pues hablaréis al aire. ^14:10Hay, por ejemplo, tantas clases de idiomas en el mundo, y ninguno de ellos carece de significado. ^14:11Pero si yo ignoro el significado de lo que se dice, seré extranjera al que habla, y el que habla será extranjera para mí. ^14:12Así también ustedes, por cuanto sois celosos de los dones espirituales, buscad que podéis abundéis para la edificación de la Asamblea.

^14:13Por lo cual, el que habla en la lengua falsa, pida en oración que pueda interpretar: ^14:14porque si yo oro en la lengua falsa, mi espíritu ora, pero mi entendimiento queda sin fruto.

¶El complemento   Orad, cantad y predicad la Palabra de Dios con entendimiento, no en galimatías ni una lengua extranjera (14:15 - 22)

^14:15¿Qué, entonces, es la forma correcta? Oraré con el espíritu, pero oraré también con el entendimiento; cantaré con el espíritu, pero cantaré también con el entendimiento.

^14:16De lo contrario, cuando darás gracias con el espíritu, ¿cómo podrá el que ocupa la habitación de los incultos di “Amén” después de tu dando gracias si no entiende lo que dices?

^14:17Porque de verdad das gracias bien, pero el otro no está edificado.

^14:18Doy gracias a mi Dios que hablo en las lenguas extranjeras más que todos ustedes; ^14:19pero en la Asamblea prefiero hablar cinco palabras con mi entendimiento, para enseñar también a otros, que diez mil palabras en lengua extranjera.

^14:20Hermanos, no seáis niños en el entendimiento; sino sed niños en la malicia, pero hombres en el entendimiento. ^14:21En la Ley está escrito, “‘En otras lenguas y con otros labios hablaré a este pueblo; y ni aun así me oirán,’ dice [Jehová]”. ^14:22Así que, el don de las lenguas extranjeras son para una señal: no a los que creen; sino a los que no creen; pero profetizar no sirve para los que no creen; sino para los que sí creen.

¶Único   Toda predicación en las lenguas extranjeras en la Asamblea debe tener un intérprete (14:23 - 27)

^14:23Por tanto, si toda la Asamblea se ha reunido en un solo lugar, y todos hablan en las lenguas extranjeras, y incultos o incrédulos entran, ¿no dirán que estáis locos?

^14:24Pero si todos profetizan, y entra uno que aún ni cree en Cristo, o uno inculto, de todos está convencido, y de todos es juzgado; ^14:25y de esta manera los secretos de su corazón se hacen manifiestos; y así, postrándose sobre el rostro, adorará a Dios, declarando que en verdad Dios está en ustedes.

^14:26Entonces, ¿qué es, hermanos? Cuando os reunís, cada uno de ustedes tiene salmo, tiene doctrina, tiene lengua, tiene revelación, tiene interpretación.

Dejen que todo se haga hacia la edificación.

^14:27Si alguno hable en la lengua extranjera, deje que sea por dos, o como máximo por tres (y por turno); y deje que uno interprete.

§El complemento   Conclusión: La predicación debe ser ordenada y permitid que sólo prediquen hombres (14:28 - 40)

¶El complemento   Toda predicación debe hacerse una a la vez de manera ordenada, no con galimatías caóticas (14:28 - 33)

^14:28Pero si no hay intérprete, deje que guarde silencio en la Asamblea;

y deje que hable consigo mismo y con Dios.

^14:29Deje que hablen dos o tres de los profetas; y que los demás juzguen.

^14:30Si algo se revela a otro que se sienta, deje que el primero se quede callado: ^14:31porque ustedes podéis profetizar uno a la vez, para que todos aprendan y todos se consuelen.

^14:32Y los espíritus de los Profetas están sujetos a los Profetas: ^14:33porque Dios no es autor de confusión, sino de paz; como en todas las Asambleas de los santos.

¶El complemento   Permitid lenguas extranjeras, pero la predicación debe ser ordenada; y solo por hombres (14:34 - 40)

^14:34Dejen que vuestras mujeres guarden silencio en las Asambleas: porque no les está permitido hablar; pero ellos se les ordena ser bajo obediencia, como también dice la Ley.

^14:35Y si ellos aprenderán algo, dejen que pregunten en casa a sus maridos; porque es vergonzoso que las mujeres hablen en la Asamblea.

^14:36¿Qué? ¿La Palabra de Dios salió de ustedes? ¿O llegó sólo a ustedes? ^14:37Si alguno se cree profeta, o espiritual, déjale reconocer que lo que os escribo son mandamientos del Señor

^14:38Pero si alguno es ignorante, deje que sea ignorante.

^14:39Así que, hermanos, sed celoso de profetizar; y no prohibir hablar con las lenguas extranjeras. ^14:40Dejen que todo se haga decentemente y en orden.
