^1:13Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace being offered to you at the Revelation of Jesus Christ;

^1:14as obedient children, not conforming yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance; ^1:15but as he who has called you is Holy, so you also be holy in all manner of conduct: ^1:16because it is written, “You be holy: for I am Holy.”

^1:17And if you call on the Father (who without respect of persons judges according to every man’s work), pass the time of your sojourning here in fear, ^1:18forasmuch as you know that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, such as silver and gold, from your vain conduct received by religious tradition from your fathers; ^1:19but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a Lamb without blemish and without spot.

^1:20Who truly was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was revealed in these Last Times for you; ^1:21who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory, that your faith and hope might be in God.

^1:22Seeing that you have purified your souls in obeying the Truth through the Spirit unto sincere love of the brethren, see also that you love one another with a pure heart fervently;

^1:23having been born again (not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible) by the Word of God, which lives and endures forever: ^1:24for “all flesh is as grass”, and all the glory of man is as the flower of grass. “The grass withers, and its flower falls away”, ^1:25“but the Word of the Lord endures forever.” And this is the Word which by the Gospel has been preached to you.

^2:1Therefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisy, and envy, and all evil speaking, ^2:2as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the Word, that you may grow thereby ^2:3(if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious); ^2:4to whom continually coming, as to a Living Stone (being rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God, and precious), ^2:5you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual House, a holy priesthood to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

^2:6Therefore also it is contained in the Scripture: “Behold, I lay in Zion a chief corner Stone: elect, precious; and he that believes on him shall not be ashamed.” ^2:7Therefore, to you that believe, he is precious; but to them that are disobedient: the Stone which the builders rejected, the same is made the head of the corner, ^2:8and a Stone of stumbling, and a Rock of offense, even to them that stumble at the Word, being disobedient (to which also they were appointed).

^2:9But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and a special people, that you should show forth the praises of him who has called you out of darkness into his marvelous Light; ^2:10which in times past were not a people, but are now the people of God; which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

^2:11Dearly beloved, I urge you, as strangers and pilgrims: abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; ^2:12having your behavior among the Gentiles noble; so that (whereas they speak against you as evildoers) they might (by your good works which they see) glorify God in the day of visitation.

^2:13Therefore submit yourselves to all human authority for the Lord’s sake: whether it is to the king, as supreme; ^2:14or to governors, as to them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well: ^2:15for this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men; ^2:16as free, and not using your liberty for a cloak of evil, but as the servants of God.

^2:17Honor all men; love the brethren; fear God; honor the king.

^2:18Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the perverse: ^2:19for this is acceptable, if a man for conscience toward God endures grief, suffering wrongfully. ^2:20For what praise is it, if you sin and are being beaten for it, you shall take it patiently? But, if you do good and suffer for it, taking it patiently, this is acceptable with God.

^2:21For even unto this were you called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow his steps; ^2:22who did not sin; neither was guile found in his mouth; ^2:23who, when he was reviled, reviled not in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but committed himself to him that judges righteously; ^2:24who his own self carried our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness; by whose stripes you were healed: ^2:25for you were as sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

^3:1Likewise, you wives, be in subjection to your own husbands, so that, if any do not obey the Word of God, they may also without the Word be won to Christ by the conduct of the wives, ^3:2while they observe your pure conduct in fear.

^3:3Of which let it not be the outward adornment of braiding the hair, and wearing gold ornaments, or the wearing of worldly clothing; ^3:4but rather let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is of great price in the sight of God.

^3:5For in this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection to their own husbands; ^3:6even as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose daughters you are, as long as you do well, and are not afraid with any dismay.

^3:7Likewise, you husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge;

giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of Eternal Life, that your prayers be not hindered.

^3:8Finally, all of you be of one mind; having compassion one of another, love as brethren; be pitiful; be courteous; ^3:9not returning evil for evil, or railing for railing, but contrariwise blessing; knowing that you are called unto this, that you should inherit a blessing. ^3:10For “he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile; ^3:11let him reject evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and pursue it: ^3:12for the eyes of [Jehovah] are over the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayers; but the face of [Jehovah] is against them that do evil.” ^3:13And who is he that will harm you, if you are followers of that which is good?

^3:14But if you suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy are you! And be not afraid of their terror; neither be troubled, ^3:15but sanctify the Lord God in your hearts. And be ready always to give an answer to every man that asks you a reason for the expectation that is in you with meekness and fear; ^3:16having a good conscience, so that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conduct in Christ: ^3:17for it is better, if the will of God is so, that you suffer for doing well, rather than for doing evil.

^3:18For Christ also has once for all time suffered for sins, the Just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God; having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive by the Spirit; ^3:19in which also he went and preached to the spirits in prison; ^3:20which at one time were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which few, that is, eight souls were delivered by water. ^3:21Which in corresponding fashion baptism also now delivers us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ; ^3:22who has gone into Heaven, and is on the right hand of God: angels and authorities and powers being made subject to him.

^4:1Forasmuch then as Christ has suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, ^4:2that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God: ^4:3for the time past of our life is enough for us to have done the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in licentiousness, lusts, drunkenness, reveling, drinking, and abominable idolatries; ^4:4therefore they think it is strange that you do not run with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you; ^4:5who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the living and the dead. ^4:6For this reason also was the Gospel preached to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

^4:7But the end of all things is near; therefore be sober, and watch unto prayer. ^4:8And above all things have fervent selfless love among yourselves: for selfless love shall cover the multitude of sins. ^4:9Use hospitality one to another without grudging. ^4:10As every man has received a spiritual gift, even so minister the same gift one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. ^4:11If any man speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man ministers, let him do it as of the ability which God gives, that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion into the Ages of the Ages. Amen.

^4:12Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to test you, as though some strange thing happened to you; ^4:13but rejoice, inasmuch as you are partakers of Christ’s sufferings, that, when his glory shall be revealed, you may be glad also with overwhelming joy. ^4:14If you are reproached for the Name of Christ, happy are you: for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you; on their part he is blasphemed; but on your part he is glorified.

^4:15But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a meddler in other men’s matters. ^4:16Yet if any man suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed. But let him glorify God in this respect: ^4:17for the time has come that judgment must begin at the House of God. And if it first begins at us, what shall be the end of them that do not obey the Gospel of God? ^4:18And if the righteous are scarcely saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? ^4:19Therefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator.

^5:1The elders which are among you I exhort (who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed): ^5:2shepherd the flock of God which is among you; overseeing them not by compulsion, but willingly; not for dishonest gain, but of a ready mind; ^5:3neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being examples to the flock. ^5:4And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, you shall receive an enduring crown of glory.

^5:5Likewise, you younger, submit yourselves to the elder. Indeed, all of you be subject one to another; and be clothed with humility: for God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

^5:6Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time; ^5:7casting all your anxiety upon him: for he cares for you.

^2:1Desechando, pues, toda malicia, y todo engaño, e hipocresía, y envidia, y toda maledicencia, ^2:2como niños recién nacidos, buscad a la leche pura de la Palabra, asi que podrías crecer por ello ^2:3(si es verdad que has experimentado que el Señor es graciable); ^2:4a quien viniendo continuamente, como a una Piedra Viva (siendo rechazado ciertamente por los hombres; pero elegido por Dios y precioso). ^2:5Ustedes también, como piedras vivas, se estáis siendo edificando arriba una Casa espiritual, un santo sacerdocio para ofrecer arriba sacrificios espirituales, aceptables para Dios por Jesucristo.

^2:6Por lo tanto también está contenido en la Escritura, “He aquí, pongo en Sión la principal Piedra del ángulo, escogida, preciosa; y el que cree en él no será avergonzado”. ^2:7Por lo tanto, a ustedes quien creen, él es precioso; sino a los que son desobedientes: la piedra que los constructores rechazaron, la misma se hace la cabeza de la esquina, ^2:8y una Piedra de tropiezo, y una Roca de ofensa, incluso a aquellos quien tropezar en la Palabra, siendo desobedientes (a la que también fueron elegidos).

¶Único   Cristo dio el ejemplo de sufrimiento y exaltación después, por su muerte, sepultura y resurrección (3:8 - 4:11)

^3:8Finalmente, sed todos de un mismo sentir, compasivos, amándoos fraternalmente, misericordiosos, amigables; ^3:9no devolviendo mal por mal, ni maldición por maldición, sino por el contrario, bendiciendo; sabiendo que ustedes sois llamados para que heredaseis bendición: ^3:10porque “el que quiera amar la vida, y ver días buenos, refrene su lengua de mal, y sus labios no hablen engaño; ^3:11apártese del mal, y haga el bien; busque la paz, y sígala: ^3:12porque los ojos de [Jehová] están sobre los justos, y sus oídos atentos a sus oraciones; pero el rostro de [Jehová] está contra aquellos que hacen el mal”. ^3:13¿Y quién es aquel que os podrá dañar, si ustedes seguís el bien?

^3:14Pero también si alguna cosa padecéis por la justicia, sois bienaventurados. Por tanto, no os amedrentéis por temor de ellos, ni seáis turbados; ^3:15sino santificad al Señor Dios en vuestros corazones, y estad siempre preparados para responder con mansedumbre y temor a todo el que os demande razón de la esperanza que hay en ustedes; ^3:16teniendo buena conciencia, para que en lo que murmuran de ustedes como de malhechores, sean avergonzados los que calumnian vuestra buena conducta en Cristo: ^3:17porque mejor es que padezcáis haciendo el bien, si la voluntad de Dios así lo quiere, que haciendo el mal.

^3:18Porque también Cristo, una vez por todo el tiempo, ha sufrido por los pecados, el Justo por los injustos, que él podría llevarnos a Dios, habiendo sido ejecutado en la carne, pero vivificados por el Espíritu; ^3:19en el cual también él fue y predicó a los espíritus encarcelados; ^3:20cual en un tiempo fueron desobedientes, cuando una vez que la longanimidad de Dios esperaba en los días de Noé, mientras el arca estaba siendo preparada, en el que pocas, es decir, ocho almas, fueron entregadas por el agua. ^3:21A la figura de lo cual el bautismo que ahora corresponde nos salva (no quitando las inmundicias de la carne, sino como testimonio de una buena conciencia delante de Dios) por la resurrección de Jesús Cristo, ^3:22el cual habiendo subido al Cielo, está a la diestra de Dios; estando sujetos a él, ángeles, autoridades y potestades.

^4:1Puesto que Cristo ha padecido por nosotros en la carne, ustedes también armaos del mismo pensamiento: porque el que ha padecido en la carne, cesó de pecado; ^4:2para que ya el tiempo que queda en la carne, viva, no en las concupiscencias de los hombres, sino en la voluntad de Dios. ^4:3Baste ya el tiempo pasado de nuestra vida para haber hecho la voluntad de los gentiles, andando en lascivias, concupiscencias, embriagueces, desenfrenos, banquetes y abominables idolatrías. ^4:4En lo cual les parece cosa extraña que ustedes no corráis con ellos en el mismo desenfreno de disolución, y os ultrajan; ^4:5pero darán cuenta al que está preparado para juzgar a los vivos y a los muertos. ^4:6Porque por esto también ha sido predicado el Evangelio a los muertos; para que sean juzgados en la carne según los hombres, pero vivan en el espíritu según Dios.

^4:7Pero el fin de todas las cosas se acerca; sed, pues, sobrios, y velad en oración. ^4:8Y sobre todo, tened entre ustedes ferviente amor: porque el amor cubrirá multitud de pecados. ^4:9Hospedaos los unos a los otros sin murmuraciones. ^4:10Cada uno según el don que ha recibido, minístrelo a los otros, como buenos administradores de la multiforme gracia de Dios. ^4:11Si alguno habla, hable conforme a la Palabra de Dios; si alguno ministra, ministre conforme al poder que Dios da; para que en todo Dios sea glorificado por Jesús Cristo, al cual sea gloria e imperio para siempre jamás. Amén.

§El complemento   Conclusión: Sed sujetos el uno al otro dentro de la Asamblea (4:12 - 5:14)

¶El complemento   Siguid al fiel pastor de la Asamblea (4:12 - 5:7)

^4:12Amados, no os extrañéis acerca de la prueba de fuego la cual se hace para probaros, como si alguna cosa extraña os aconteciese; ^4:13antes bien regocijaos en que sois participantes de los padecimientos de Cristo; para que cuando su gloria sea revelada, os regocijéis con gran alegría. ^4:14Si sois vituperados por el Nombre de Cristo, sois bienaventurados: porque el Espíritu de gloria y de Dios reposa sobre ustedes. Cierto según ellos, él es blasfemado, pero según ustedes él es glorificado.

^4:15Así que, ninguno de ustedes padezca como homicida, o ladrón, o malhechor, o por entremeterse en asuntos ajenos. ^4:16Pero si alguno padece como cristiano, no se avergüence; antes glorifique a Dios por ello: ^4:17porque es tiempo de que el juicio comience por la casa de Dios; y si primero comienza por nosotros, ¿cuál será el fin de aquellos que no obedecen al Evangelio de Dios? ^4:18Y si el justo con dificultad es salvo; ¿en dónde aparecerá el impío y el pecador? ^4:19Por tanto, los que padecen según la voluntad de Dios, encomienden a él sus almas, como a fiel Creador, haciendo el bien.

^5:1Ruego a los ancianos que están entre ustedes, yo anciano también con ellos, y testigo de los padecimientos de Cristo, que soy también participante de la gloria que ha de ser revelada: ^5:2apacentad la grey de Dios que está entre ustedes, cuidando de ella, no por fuerza, sino voluntariamente; no por ganancia deshonesta, sino de ánimo pronto; ^5:3y no como teniendo señorío sobre la heredad de Dios, sino siendo ejemplos de la grey. ^5:4Y cuando apareciere el Príncipe de los pastores, ustedes recibiréis la corona incorruptible de gloria.

^5:5Igualmente, jóvenes, someter a los ancianos; y todos someter unos a otros, y vestíos de humildad: porque Dios resiste a los soberbios, y da gracia a los humildes.

^5:6Humillaos, pues, bajo la poderosa mano de Dios, para que él os exalte a tu debido tiempo; ^5:7echando toda vuestro ansiedad sobre él, porque él se preocupa por ustedes.

¶El complemento   Saludarnos con un beso de amor desinteresado (5:8 - 14)

^5:8Sed sobrios, y velad: porque vuestro adversario el diablo, cual león rugiente, anda alrededor buscando a quien devorar; ^5:9al cual resistid firmes en la fe, sabiendo que las mismas aflicciones han de ser cumplidas en vuestros hermanos que están en el mundo.

^5:10Pero el Dios de toda gracia, que nos ha llamado a su gloria eterna por Cristo Jesús, después que hubiereis padecido un poco de tiempo, él mismo os perfeccione, afirme, corrobore y establezca. ^5:11A él sea gloria e imperio para siempre. Amén.

^5:12Os he escrito por conducto de Silvano, a quien considero un hermano fiel a ustedes, exhortándoos, y testificando que ésta es la verdadera gracia de Dios, en la cual estáis.

^5:13La Asamblea en Babilonia, juntamente elegida con ustedes, os saluda, y Marcos mi hijo. ^5:14Saludaos unos a otros con ósculo de amor.
