^1:4because of his divine power, having granted us all things pertaining to life and godliness, through the knowledge of the One having called us to His own glory and virtue.

^1:4Through which are given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that by these you might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

^1:5And for this very cause, giving all diligence, add into your faith, virtue; and in your virtue, knowledge; ^1:6and in your knowledge, self-control; and in your self-control, patience; and in your patience, godliness; ^1:7and in your godliness, brotherly kindness; and in your brotherly kindness, selfless love.

^1:8For if these things are in you, and abound, they will cause you to be neither hollow nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

^1:9But he that lacks these things is blind, and cannot see far away; and has forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

^1:10Therefore, brethren, give extra diligence to make your calling and election certain: for if you do these things, you shall never stumble, ^1:11for so an entrance shall be ministered to you abundantly into the everlasting Kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

^1:12Therefore, I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though you know them, and are established in the present Truth.

^1:13Indeed, I think it is fitting, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance; ^1:14knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ has shown me.

^1:15Moreover I will be diligent that you may be able after my death to have these things always in remembrance: ^1:16for we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

But we were eyewitnesses of his majesty: ^1:19for he received from God the Father honor and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, saying, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” ^1:18And we heard this voice which came from Heaven, when we were with him in the holy mountain.

^1:19We also have a more certain Word of prophecy; unto which you do well that you take heed, as to a Light that shines in a dark place, until the Eternal Day dawns, and the Day Star arises in your hearts. ^1:20Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the Scripture comes of one’s own interpretation: ^1:21for the prophecy came at no time by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

^2:1But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you; who secretly shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

^2:2And many shall follow their pernicious ways, by reason of whom the Way of Truth shall be spoken of as evil.

^2:3And through covetousness shall they make merchandise of you with feigned words; whose judgment now of a long time lingers not, and their damnation slumbers not.

^2:4For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to Tartarus, and delivered them into chains of darkness to be reserved for Judgment; ^2:5and spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; ^2:6and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an example to those that after should live ungodly; ^2:7and delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conduct of the wicked ^2:8(for that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds): ^2:9then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust to the Day of Judgment to be punished; ^2:10but chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise authority. Presumptuous are they, and self-willed: they are unafraid to speak evil of dignities.

^2:11Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, do not bring a railing accusation against them before the Lord.

^2:12But these, as natural stupid beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they do not understand. And they shall utterly perish in their own corruption; ^2:13and shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the daytime.

Spots are they, and blemishes; sporting themselves with their own deception while they feast with you; ^2:14having eyes full of adultery and unable to cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls; and a heart they have exercised with covetous practices.

They are cursed children, ^2:15who have forsaken the right Way; and have gone astray; following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; ^2:16but was rebuked for his iniquity: the mute donkey speaking with man’s voice forbade the madness of the prophet.

^2:17These are wells without water; clouds that are carried with a tempest:

to whom the mist of darkness is reserved forever.

¶Opposite   Those know the Truth, but reject it will suffer far more in Hell than if they had never heard it (2:18 - 22)

^2:18For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much licentiousness, those that are escaping from them who live in error.

^2:19While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the slaves of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in slavery.

^2:20For if after they were escaping the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, but they are again entangled in it and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.

^2:21For it would have been better for them not to have known the Way of righteousness, than after they have known it, to turn from the Holy Commandment delivered to them.

^2:22But it has happened to them according to the true proverb, “The dog returned over and over to his own vomit; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mud.”

¶Opposite   The Word of God created the heavens and the Earth, and also preserves it until the Day of Judgment (3:1 - 7)

^3:1This second letter, beloved, I now write to you: in which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance, ^3:2that you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy Prophets, and of the command of us the Apostles of the Lord and Savior.

^3:3Knowing this first, that scoffers shall come in the Last Days, walking after their own lusts, ^3:4and saying, “Where is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the Creation.”

^3:5For they are willingly ignorant of this fact, that by the Word of God the heavens were spoken into existence long ago;

and the earth out of the water and in the water has been held together by the same Word; ^3:6by which the world (that then was), being covered with water, perished;

^3:7but the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same Word are being kept in store, reserved unto fire against the Day of Judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

^3:10But the Day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night: in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with intense heat, the earth also and the works that are in it shall be burned up.

^3:11Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in all holy conduct and godliness; ^3:12looking for and hastening to the coming of the Day of God; in which the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with intense heat?

^3:13Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth; in which dwells righteousness.

¶Complement   Beware, lest you also are led away with doctrinal errors; but grow in grace (3:14 - 18)

^3:14Therefore, beloved, seeing that you look for such things, be diligent that you may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

^3:15And consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given to him has written to you; ^3:16as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to be understood; which they that are uninstructed and unstable twist, as they do also the other Scriptures, toward their own destruction.

^3:17You therefore, beloved, seeing that you know these things before, beware lest you also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own steadfastness.

^3:18But grow in grace; and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Pero nosotros fuimos testigos oculares de su majestad: ^1:17porque él recibió desde Dios el Padre honor y gloria, cuando una voz vino a él desde la excelente gloria, diciendo, “Éste es mi Hijo amado, en quien estoy muy complacido”. ^1:18Y oímos esta voz que vino del Cielo, cuando estábamos con él en la montaña santa.

^1:19Tenemos además una Palabra de profética más cierta; a lo cual haces bien que usted preste atención, como a una luz que brilla en un lugar oscuro, hasta que el día eterno amanece, y la estrella del día se levanta en tus corazones. ^1:20Sabiendo esto primero, que ninguna profecía de la Escritura viene de cualquier interpretación privada: 1:21porque la profecía no llegó en ningún momento por la voluntad del hombre, pero los santos hombres de Dios hablaron como fueron llevados a lo largo por el Espíritu Santo.

^2:2Y muchos seguirán sus caminos perniciosos, y por causa de ellos el camino de la verdad será blasfemado.

^2:3Y por avaricia harán mercadería de ustedes con palabras fingidas, sobre los cuales la condenación ya de largo tiempo no se tarda, y su perdición no se duerme.

^2:4Porque si Dios no perdonó a los ángeles que pecaron, sino que los arrojó al infierno y los entregó a prisiones de oscuridad, a ser reservados para el Juicio; ^2:5y si no perdonó al mundo antiguo, sino que guardó a Noé, la octava persona, pregonero de justicia, trayendo el diluvio sobre el mundo de los impíos; ^2:6y si condenó por destrucción las ciudades de Sodoma y de Gomorra, tornándolas en ceniza, y poniéndolas por ejemplo a los que habían de vivir impíamente, ^2:7y libró al justo Lot, abrumado por la nefanda conducta de los malvados ^2:8(porque este justo, morando entre ellos, afligía cada día su alma justa, viendo y oyendo los hechos inicuos de ellos). ^2:9Sabe el Señor librar de tentación a los piadosos, y reservar a los injustos para ser castigados en el Día del Juicio; ^2:10pero principalmente a aquellos que siguen la carne en la concupiscencia de inmundicia, y menosprecian todo gobierno. Atrevidos, contumaces, que no temen decir mal de las potestades superiores.

^2:11Mientras que los ángeles, que son mayores en fuerza y en potencia, no pronuncian juicio de maldición contra ellas delante del Señor.

¶El complemento   Los falsos maestros son niños malditos que perecerán en su propia corrupción (2:12 - 17)

^2:12Pero éstos, como bestias brutas naturalmente nacidas para presa y destrucción, hablan mal de cosas que no entienden. Y perecerán en su propia corrupción, ^2:13y recibirán la recompensa de su injusticia, ya que tienen por delicia el gozar del placer en pleno día.

Éstos son suciedades y manchas, quienes aun mientras comen con ustedes, se recrean en sus engaños. ^2:14Tienen los ojos llenos de adulterio, y no pueden dejar de pecar. Seducen a las almas inestables, tienen un corazón ejercitado en la codicia.

Ellos son hijos de maldición. ^2:15Han dejado el camino recto, y se han extraviado, siguiendo el camino de Balaam, hijo de Bosor, el cual amó la paga de la maldad. ^2:16Pero fue reprendido por su iniquidad; una asna muda, hablando con voz de hombre, refrenó la locura del profeta.

^2:17Éstos son fuentes sin agua, y nubes empujadas por la tempestad;

para los cuales está guardada la oscuridad de las tinieblas para siempre.

¶Lo opuesto   Aquellos que conocen la Verdad, pero la rechazan, sufrirán mucho más en el Infierno que si nunca la hubieran escuchado (2:18 - 22)

^2:18Porque hablando palabras arrogantes de vanidad, seducen con las concupiscencias de la carne mediante lascivias a los que verdaderamente habían escapado de los que viven en error;

^2:19prometiéndoles libertad, siendo ellos mismos esclavos de corrupción: porque el que es vencido de alguno, es hecho esclavo de aquel que lo venció.

^2:20Porque si habiendo ellos escapado de las contaminaciones del mundo, por el conocimiento del Señor y Salvador Jesús Cristo, y otra vez se enredan en ellas y son vencidos, su postrimería viene a ser peor que su principio.

^2:21Porque mejor les hubiera sido no haber conocido el camino de la justicia, que después de haberlo conocido, tornarse atrás del Santo Mandamiento que les fue dado.

^2:22Pero les ha acontecido lo del verdadero proverbio, “El perro volvió a su vómito, y la puerca lavada a revolcarse en el cieno”.

¶Lo opuesto   La Palabra de Dios creó los cielos y la Tierra, y también la preserva hasta el Día del Juicio (3:1 - 7)

^3:1Carísimos, esta segunda carta escribo ahora a ustedes; en la cual despierto vuestro sincero entendimiento, por recordatorio; ^3:2para que tengáis memoria de las palabras que antes han sido dichas por los santos Profetas, y del mandamiento de nosotros los Apóstoles del Señor y Salvador.

^3:3Sabiendo primero esto, que en los postreros días vendrán burladores, andando según sus propias concupiscencias, ^3:4y diciendo, “¿Dónde está la promesa de su venida? Porque desde que los padres durmieron, todas las cosas permanecen así como estaban desde el principio de la Creación”.

^3:5Porque ellos son voluntariamente ignorantes de este hecho, que por la Palabra de Dios, los cielos se hablaron a la existencia hace mucho tiempo;

y la tierra fuera del agua y en el agua se ha mantenido unido por la misma Palabra; ^3:6por la cual pereció el mundo (cual existía entonces), estando cubierto de agua.

^3:7Pero los cielos y la tierra (cual son ahora) son reservados por la misma Palabra, guardados para el fuego en el día del juicio y de la perdición de los hombres impíos.

^3:8Pero, amados, no ignoréis esto, que un día delante del Señor es como mil años, y mil años como un día.

^3:9El Señor no es lento en relación con el cumplimiento de su promesa (como algunos hombres consideran la lentitud); pero es paciente para con nosotros: no dispuesto a que cualquiera debería perecer, sino que todo debería venir al arrepentimiento.

^3:10Pero el día del Señor vendrá como ladrón en la noche; en el cual los cielos pasarán con grande estruendo, y los elementos se derretirán con un calor intenso, y la tierra y las obras que en ella hay serán quemadas.

^3:11Puesto que todas estas cosas han de ser deshechas, ¿cómo no debéis ustedes de conduciros en santa y piadosa manera de vivir? ^3:12Esperando y apresurándoos para la venida del día de Dios, en el cual los cielos, siendo encendidos, serán deshechos, y los elementos siendo quemados, se fundirán.

^3:13Pero nosotros esperamos según su promesa, cielos nuevos y tierra nueva, en los cuales mora la justicia.

¶El complemento   Tened cuidado para que ustedes no se dejan llevar por los errores doctrinales de los impíos; pero creced en gracia (3:14 - 18)

^3:14Por lo cual, amados, estando en espera de estas cosas, procurad con diligencia que seáis hallados de él en paz, sin mácula y sin reprensión.

^3:15Y considerad la paciencia de nuestro Señor es salvación; como también nuestro amado hermano Pablo, según la sabiduría que le ha sido dada, os ha escrito, ^3:16como también en todas sus cartas, hablando en ellas de estas cosas; entre las cuales hay algunas difíciles de entender, las cuales los indoctos e inconstantes tuercen, como también las otras Escrituras, para su propia perdición.

^3:17Así que ustedes, amados, sabiéndolo de antemano, guardaos, no sea que siendo desviados con el error de los inicuos, caigáis de vuestra firmeza.

^3:18Pero creced en la gracia y en el conocimiento de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesús Cristo.

A él sea gloria ahora y hasta el Día Eterno. Amén.
