All things were created by him, and for him; ^1:17and he is before all things, and in him all things are being held together. ^1:18And he is the head of the body, the Assembly, who is the Beginning, the Firstborn from the dead, that in all things he might have the preeminence: ^1:19for it pleased the Father that all fullness of Deity should dwell in him; ^1:20and, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things to himself: by him, I say, whether they are things in earth, or things in Heaven.

^1:21And you, that at one time were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now has he reconciled you ^1:22in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy, blameless, and irreproachable in his sight, ^1:23if you continue in the Faith grounded and settled, and are not moved away from the confident expectation of the Gospel, which you have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under Heaven.

Of which I Paul am made a minister, ^1:24who now rejoice in my sufferings for you; and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body’s sake, which is the Assembly;

^1:25of which I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfill the Word of God: ^1:26even the mystery which has been hidden from Ages and from generations, but at this very moment was made clear to his saints; ^1:27to whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the expectation of glory; ^1:28whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus. ^1:29Unto which I also labor, striving according to his working, which works in me mightily.

^2:1For I wish that you knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh: ^2:2that their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgment of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ: ^2:3in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

^2:4And I say this, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words: ^2:5for though I am absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, enjoying and beholding your order, and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ.

^2:6Therefore, as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, in this same manner walk in obedience to him; ^2:7rooted and built up in him, and established in the Faith, as you have been taught; abounding in it with thanksgiving.

^2:8Beware lest any man spoils you through Gnostic philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the elements of the world-system; and not after Christ: ^2:9for all the Divine fullness of the Godhead dwells bodily in him.

^2:10And you are complete in him, who is the head of all principality and power; ^2:11in whom also you were circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ. ^2:12You were buried with him in baptism; in which also you were raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead.

^2:13And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, has he quickened together with him; having forgiven you all trespasses: ^2:14blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us; and he took it out of the way forever, nailing it to his cross. ^2:15And having spoiled evil principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

^2:16Therefore, let no man judge you in food, or in drink, or in respect of a feast day, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath days; ^2:17which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

^2:18Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshiping of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind; ^2:19and not holding fast the Head, out of which all the body by joints and bands gathers nourishment, and being united together, increases with the increase of God.

^2:20Therefore if you are dead with Christ from the elements of the world, why, as though living in the world, are you subject to ascetic ordinances ^2:21(touch not; taste not; handle not; ^2:22which all are to perish with the using), after the commandments and doctrines of men?

^2:23Which things have indeed a show of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body, not in any honor to the satisfying of the flesh.

¶Opposite   Put off the old man, put on selfless love, and put in the Word of Christ (3:1 - 17)

^3:1If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sits on the right hand of God. ^3:2Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth: ^3:3for you are dead, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. ^3:4When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then you also shall appear with him in glory.

^3:5Therefore mortify your members which are upon the earth: fornication, impure motives, sexual passion, lust, and covetousness, which is idolatry: ^3:6for which things’ sake the wrath of God is coming on the children of disobedience; ^3:7in which you also walked at one time, when you lived in them.

^3:8But now also put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, and filthy communication out of your mouth. ^3:9Do not lie one to another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his deeds, ^3:10and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him, ^3:11where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free; but Christ is all, and in all.

^3:12Put on therefore (as the Elect of God, holy and beloved) bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, and longsuffering: ^3:13forbearing one another, and forgiving one another; if any man has a quarrel against any, even as Christ forgave you, so also do you. ^3:14And above all these things put on selfless love, which is the bond of perfection. ^3:15And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.

^3:16Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom: teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. ^3:17And whatsoever you do in word or deed, do it all in the Name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

¶Opposite   Put the Word of Christ into action at home and on the job (3:18 - 4:1)

^3:18Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands, as it is fitting in the Lord. ^3:19Husbands, love your wives; and be not bitter against them.

^3:20Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing to the Lord. ^3:21Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.

^3:22Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eye service, as men-pleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God.

^3:23And whatsoever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men; ^3:24knowing that of the Lord you shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for you serve the Lord Christ. ^3:25But he that does wrong shall receive for the wrong which he has done; and there is no respect of persons.

^4:1Masters, give to your servants that pay which is just and fair, knowing that you also have a Master in Heaven.

^2:8Cuidaos de que nadie os engañe por medio de la filosofía gnóstica y del vano engaño, según la tradición de los hombres, según los elementos del sistema mundial; y no según Cristo: ^2:9porque toda la plenitud Divina de la Deidad habita corporalmente en él.

^2:10y ustedes estáis completos en él, el cual es la cabeza de todo principado y potestad. ^2:11En quien también sois circuncidados de circuncisión no hecha de mano, en el despojamiento del cuerpo del pecado de la carne, en la circuncisión de Cristo. ^2:12Fuisteis fueron enterrados con él en el bautismo, en el cual también sois resucitados con él, mediante vuestra fe en el poder de Dios que le levantó de los muertos.

^2:20Si habéis muerto con Cristo en cuanto a los rudimentos del mundo, ¿por qué, entonces, como si vivieseis en el mundo, os sometéis a ordenanzas, ^2:21(tales como: no toques, no gustes, no manejes ^2:22todas las cuales habrán de perecer con el uso), según mandamientos y doctrinas de hombres?

^2:23Tales cosas tienen a la verdad cierta apariencia de sabiduría en adoración voluntaria, en humildad, y en duro trato del cuerpo, pero no tienen ningún valor para la satisfacción de la carne.

^3:5Haced morir, pues, vuestros miembros que están en la tierra: fornicación, impureza, pasiones desordenadas, mala concupiscencia y avaricia, que es idolatría; ^3:6cosas por las cuales viene la ira de Dios sobre los hijos de desobediencia; ^3:7en las cuales también ustedes anduvisteis en otro tiempo cuando vivíais en ellas.

^3:8Pero ahora dejad también ustedes todas estas cosas; ira, enojo, malicia, blasfemia, palabras sucias de vuestra boca. ^3:9No mintáis los unos a los otros, habiéndoos despojado del viejo hombre con sus hechos; ^3:10y vestíos del nuevo, el cual se va renovando en el conocimiento conforme a la imagen del que lo creó, ^3:11donde no hay griego ni judío, circuncisión ni incircuncisión, bárbaro ni escita, siervo ni libre; sino que Cristo es el todo, y en todos.

^3:12Vestíos, pues, como escogidos de Dios, santos y amados, de entrañas de misericordia, de benignidad, de humildad, de mansedumbre, de longanimidad; ^3:13soportándoos unos a otros, y perdonándoos unos a otros. Si alguno tuviere queja contra otro, de la manera que Cristo os perdonó, así también hacedlo ustedes. ^3:14Y sobre todas estas cosas, vestíos de amor que es el vínculo de perfección. ^3:15Y la paz de Dios reine en vuestros corazones; a la que asimismo sois llamados en un cuerpo; y sed agradecidos.

^3:16La Palabra de Cristo more en abundancia en ustedes en toda sabiduría; enseñándoos y exhortándoos unos a otros con salmos, e himnos, y cánticos espirituales, cantando con gracia en vuestros corazones al Señor. ^3:17Y todo lo que hacéis, sea de palabra o de hecho, hacedlo todo en el Nombre del Señor Jesús, dando gracias al Dios y Padre por medio de él.

^3:20Hijos, obedeced a vuestros padres en todo: porque esto agrada al Señor. ^3:21Padres, no provoquéis a ira a vuestros hijos, para que no se desanimen.

^3:22Siervos, obedeced en todo a vuestros amos según la carne, no sirviendo al ojo, como los que agradan a los hombres, sino con sencillez de corazón, temiendo a Dios.

^3:23Y todo lo que hagáis, hacedlo de corazón, como para el Señor y no para los hombres; ^3:24sabiendo que del Señor recibiréis la recompensa de la herencia: porque a Cristo el Señor servís. ^3:25Pero el que hace lo malo, recibirá el mal que hiciere, y no hay acepción de personas.

^4:1Amos, tratad a vuestros siervos como es justo y recto, sabiendo que ustedes también tenéis un Amo en el Cielo.

§Único   Conclusión: Orad los unos por los otros y por los misioneros en prisión por su fe (4:2 - 18)

¶El complemento    Orad por y saludarnos unos a otros en Cristo (4:2 - 15)

^4:2Perseverad en la oración, velando en ella con acción de gracias; ^4:3orando juntamente también por nosotros, que Dios nos abra la puerta de la palabra, para que hablemos el misterio de Cristo, por el cual estoy también preso; ^4:4para que lo manifieste como debo hablar. ^4:5Andad sabiamente para con los de afuera, redimiendo el tiempo. ^4:6Sea vuestra palabra siempre con gracia, sazonada con sal, para que sepáis cómo debéis responder a cada uno.

^4:7Todos mis asuntos os hará saber Tíquico, amado hermano y fiel ministro y consiervo en el Señor; ^4:8al cual os he enviado para esto mismo, para que conozca vuestro estado, y conforte vuestros corazones, ^4:9con Onésimo, fiel y amado hermano, el cual es uno de ustedes. Todo lo que acá acontece, os lo harán saber.

^4:10Aristarco, mi compañero de prisiones, os saluda, y Marcos el sobrino de Bernabé, acerca del cual recibisteis mandamientos; si viniere a ustedes, recibidle; ^4:11y Jesús, que es llamado Justo; que son de la circuncisión. Sólo éstos son mis colaboradores en el reino de Dios; y me han sido consuelo.

^4:12Os saluda Epafras, el cual es uno de ustedes, siervo de Cristo; siempre esforzándose por ustedes en oración, para que estéis firmes, perfectos y completos en toda la voluntad de Dios: ^4:13porque yo doy testimonio de él, que tiene gran celo por ustedes, y por los que están en Laodicea, y por los que están en Hierápolis.

^4:14Os saluda Lucas, el médico amado, y Demas. ^4:15Saludad a los hermanos que están en Laodicea, y a Ninfas, y a la Asamblea que está en su casa.

¶El complemento    Orad por los misioneros en prisión por su fe (4:16 - 18)

^4:16Y cuando esta carta haya sido leída entre ustedes, haced que también se lea en la Asamblea de los laodicenses; y que la carta de Laodicea la leáis también ustedes.

^4:17Y decid a Arquipo, “Mira que cumplas el ministerio que recibiste en el Señor”.
