^1:3I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with a pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of you in my prayers night and day ^1:4(greatly desiring to see you, being mindful of your tears, that I may be filled with joy), ^1:5when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you; which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois, and your mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that is also in you.

^1:6Therefore I put you in remembrance that you stir up the gift of God, which is in you by the laying on of my hands: ^1:7for God has not given us the spirit of fear, but the Spirit of power, of love, and of a sound mind.

^1:8Therefore be not ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner; but be a partaker of the afflictions of the Gospel according to the power of God;

^1:9who has saved us, and called us with a holy calling (not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before Time Everlasting, ^1:10but is now made manifest by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ);

who has abolished death, and has brought Life and immortality to light through the Gospel.

^1:11Unto which I am appointed a preacher, an Apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles. ^1:12For which cause I also suffer these things; nevertheless, I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed to him against that day.

^1:13Hold fast the form of sound words, which you have heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

^1:14That good thing which was committed to you protect by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.

^1:15This you know, that all they who are in Asia have turned away from me: of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.

^1:16But the Lord give mercy to the household of Onesiphorus: for he often refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain; ^1:17but when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me. ^1:18The Lord grant to him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day; and in how many other things he ministered to me at Ephesus, you know very well.

^2:1You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. ^2:2And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit the same to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

^2:3You therefore endure hardness as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. ^2:4No man that makes war entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who has chosen him to be a soldier. ^2:5And if one also contends in athletic competition, yet he is not crowned, unless he contends lawfully. ^2:6The farmer that labors must be the first partaker of the fruits. ^2:7Consider what I say, and the Lord give you understanding in all things.

^2:8Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my Gospel; ^2:9in which I suffer trouble as an evildoer, even unto chains.

But the Word of God is not chained; ^2:10therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

^2:11It is a faithful saying: for if we are dead with him, we shall also live with him; ^2:12if we suffer, we shall also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us; ^2:13if we do not believe, still he remains faithful: he cannot deny himself.

¶Complement   Study to show yourself approved unto God, but shun profane and vain babblings (2:14 - 26)

^2:14Of these things put the Assembly in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no benefit, but only to the subverting of the hearers.

^2:15Study to show yourself approved unto God: a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth.

^2:16But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase to more ungodliness. ^2:17And their word will eat like gangrene: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus; ^2:18who concerning the truth have gone astray, saying that the resurrection is already past; and they overthrow the faith of some. ^2:19Nevertheless, the foundation of God stands sure, having this seal: “[Jehovah] knows them that are his;” and, “Let every one that names the Name of Christ depart from iniquity.”

^2:20But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honor, and some to dishonor. ^2:21If a man therefore purges himself from these things, he shall be a vessel unto honor, sanctified, very useful to the Master, and prepared for every good work. ^2:22Flee also youthful lusts; but follow righteousness, faith, selfless love, and peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

^2:23But avoid foolish and unlearned questions, knowing that they breed strife. ^2:24And the servant of the Lord must not strive, but be gentle to all men, able to teach, and patient; ^2:25in meekness instructing those that contradict themselves, if perhaps God will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth, ^2:26and that they might recover themselves out of the snare of the devil; who are taken captive by him at his will.

¶Complement   Reprobates will always be there to oppose the Faith, but they will fail (3:1 - 17)

^3:1This know also, that in the Last Days perilous times shall come. ^3:2For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, ^3:3without family affection, irreconcilable, false accusers, without self-control, fierce, despisers of those that are good, ^3:4traitors, reckless, conceited, and lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God ^3:5(having a form of godliness, but denying its power: from such turn away). ^3:6For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women filled with sins, led away with diverse lusts; ^3:7always learning, but never able to come to the knowledge of the Truth.

^3:8Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the Truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the Faith.

^3:9But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest to all men, as theirs also was.

^3:10But you have fully known my teaching, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, selfless love, patience, ^3:11persecutions, and afflictions, which came to me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra; what persecutions I endured; but the Lord delivered me out of them all. ^3:12Indeed, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. ^3:13But evil men and seducers shall grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.

^3:14But continue in the things which you have learned and have been assured of, knowing of whom you have learned them; ^3:15and that from a child you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. ^3:16All Scripture is God-breathed; and is beneficial for doctrine, for rebuke, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness; ^3:17that the man of God may be complete, and thoroughly equipped for all good work.

^4:1I charge you therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the living and the dead at his appearing and his Kingdom: ^4:2preach the Word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine:

^4:3for the time will come when they will not endure sound teaching, but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; ^4:4and they shall turn away their ears from the Truth, and shall be turned to fables.

^4:5But watch in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an Evangelist, and make full proof of your ministry.

^4:6For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is near. ^4:7I have fought a good fight; I have finished my race; I have kept the Faith; ^4:8henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day;

and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

^4:14Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil. The Lord reward him according to his works; ^4:15of whom you beware also: for he has greatly withstood our words.

^4:16At my first answer no one stood with me; but all forsook me. May it not be laid to their charge.

^4:17Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me, that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear; and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.

^4:18And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work; and will preserve me into his heavenly Kingdom; to whom be glory into the Ages of the Ages. Amen.

Pero la Palabra de Dios no está presa; ^2:10por tanto, todo lo sufro por amor de los escogidos, para que ellos también obtengan la salvación que es en Cristo Jesús con gloria eterna.

^2:11Palabra fiel es ésta, que si somos muertos con él, ^2:12también viviremos con él; si sufrimos, también reinaremos con él; si lo negáremos, él también nos negará; ^2:13si fuéremos infieles, él permanece fiel; él no puede negarse a sí mismo.

^2:14Recuérdales esto, y exhórtales delante del Señor a que no contiendan sobre palabras, lo cual para nada aprovecha, antes perjudica a los oyentes.

^2:16Pero evita profanas y vanas palabrerías: porque irán en aumento para mayor impiedad. ^2:17Y la palabra de ellos carcomerá como gangrena; de los cuales son Himeneo y Fileto; ^2:18que se han descaminado de la verdad, diciendo que la resurrección ya pasó, y trastornan la fe de algunos. ^2:19Pero el fundamento de Dios está firme, teniendo este sello: “[Jehová] conoce a los que son suyos”; y: “Apártese de iniquidad todo aquel que invoca el Nombre de Cristo”.

^2:20Pero en una casa grande, no sólo hay vasos de oro y de plata, sino también de madera y de barro; y asimismo unos para honra, y otros para deshonra. ^2:21Así que, si alguno se limpiare de estas cosas, será vaso para honra, santificado, y útil al Señor, y preparado para toda buena obra. ^2:22Huye también de las concupiscencias juveniles; y sigue la justicia, la fe, la caridad, la paz, con los que invocan al Señor de corazón puro.

^2:23Pero evita las cuestiones necias e insensatas, sabiendo que engendran contiendas. ^2:24Y el siervo del Señor no debe esforzarse, sino ser amable con todos los hombres, capaz de enseñar y paciente; ^2:25en mansedumbre, instruyendo a aquellos que se contradicen ellos mismos, si tal vez Dios les dará arrepentimiento para reconocer la verdad, ^2:26y que podrían recuperarse de la trampa del diablo; que son tomados cautivos por él en su voluntad.

^3:8Y de la manera que Janes y Jambres resistieron a Moisés, así también éstos resisten a la verdad; hombres corruptos de entendimiento, réprobos en cuanto a la fe.

^3:9Pero no llegarán muy lejos: porque su insensatez será manifiesta a todos, como también lo fue la de aquéllos.

^3:10Pero tú has conocido mi doctrina, conducta, propósito, fe, longanimidad, caridad, paciencia, ^3:11persecuciones, aflicciones, como las que me sobrevinieron en Antioquía, en Iconio, en Listra, persecuciones que he sufrido; pero de todas ellas me ha librado el Señor. ^3:12Y también todos los que quieren vivir piadosamente en Cristo Jesús, padecerán persecución. ^3:13Pero los malos hombres y los engañadores irán de mal en peor, engañando y siendo engañados.

^3:14Pero continúa en las cosas que usted ha aprendido y que usted ha sido asegurado de; sabiendo de quién usted los ha aprendido; ^3:15y que desde la niñez has sabido las Sagradas Escrituras, cual son capaces de hacerte sabio hasta la salvación por medio de la fe que está en Cristo Jesús. ^3:16Toda la Escritura es dada por inspiración de Dios; y es beneficioso para la doctrina, para la reprensión, para la corrección, y para la instrucción en la rectitud; ^3:17para que el hombre de Dios puede estar completo y completamente equipado para todo buen trabajo.

^4:1Te requiero, pues, delante de Dios, y del Señor Jesús Cristo, que ha de juzgar a los vivos y a los muertos en su Manifestación y en su Reino: ^4:2predica la Palabra; insta a tiempo y fuera de tiempo; redarguye, reprende; exhorta con toda paciencia y doctrina:

^4:3porque vendrá tiempo cuando no sufrirán la sana doctrina; antes, teniendo comezón de oír, se amontonarán maestros conforme a sus propias concupiscencias, ^4:4y apartarán de la verdad sus oídos y se volverán a las fábulas.

^4:5Pero tú vela en todo, soporta las aflicciones, haz la obra de Evangelista, cumple tu ministerio.

^4:6porque yo ya estoy para ser sacrificado, y el tiempo de mi partida está cercano. ^4:7He peleado la buena batalla, he acabado mi carrera, he guardado la fe. ^4:8Por lo demás, me está guardada la corona de justicia, la cual me dará el Señor, juez justo, en aquel día;

y no sólo a mí, sino también a todos los que aman su venida.

^4:14Alejandro el calderero me ha causado muchos males; el Señor le pague conforme a sus hechos. ^4:15Guárdate tú también de él; pues en gran manera ha resistido a nuestras palabras.

^4:16En mi primera defensa ninguno estuvo a mi lado, antes todos me desampararon; ruego a Dios que no les sea imputado.

^4:17Pero el Señor estuvo a mi lado, y me esforzó, para que por mí fuese cumplida la predicación, y todos los gentiles oyesen; y fui librado de la boca del león.

^4:18Y el Señor me librará de toda obra mala, y me preservará para su Reino celestial. A él sea gloria por siempre jamás. Amén.
