^1:8But we know that the Law is good, if a man uses it lawfully; ^1:9knowing this, that the Law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, ^1:10for fornicators, for homosexuals, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjured persons; and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine, ^1:11according to the glorious Gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.

^1:12And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord; who has enabled me, in that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; ^1:13who before was a blasphemer, a persecutor, and violent; but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. ^1:14And the grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

^1:15This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners: of whom I am the worst. ^1:16Nevertheless, I obtained mercy for this reason, that in me first Jesus Christ might show forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them who should hereafter believe on him into Everlasting Life.

^1:18And this same leadership responsibility I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on you, that by them you might war a good warfare; ^1:19holding faith, and a good conscience. ^1:20Which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck; of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered to Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.

^2:1I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men ^2:2(for kings, and for all that are in authority), that we may lead a quiet and peaceful life in all godliness and honesty: ^2:3for this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, ^2:4who desires all men to be saved, and to come into the knowledge of the Truth: ^2:5for there is only one God, and only one Mediator between God and men: the Man Christ Jesus; ^2:6who gave himself a ransom for all mankind, to be testified in due time.

^2:7Unto which I am ordained a preacher, an Apostle (I speak the truth in Christ, and do not lie), and a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.

^2:8Therefore I decree that the men of the Assembly pray in all places, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. ^2:9In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest clothing, with modesty and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array, ^2:10but (which is proper for women professing godliness) with good works.

^2:11Let the woman learn in silence with all submission. ^2:12But I do not allow a woman to teach men, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence: ^2:13for Adam was first formed, then Eve; ^2:14and Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. ^2:14Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and selfless love and holiness with sobriety.

^3:1This is a true saying: if a man aspires to the office of an Overseer, he desires a good work. ^3:2An Overseer then must be blameless, a husband of only one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behavior, given to hospitality, able to teach; ^3:3not next to any wine; not quick-tempered; not greedy for dishonest gain, but patient; not a fighter; not covetous; ^3:4one that rules well his own household, having his children in subjection with all gravity. ^3:5For if a man does not know how to rule his own household, how shall he take care of the Assembly of God? ^3:6But he must not be a new believer, lest being lifted up with pride, he falls into the condemnation of the devil. ^3:7Also, he must have a good testimony of them that are outside the Assembly, lest he falls into reproach and the snare of the devil.

^3:8Likewise the Deacons must be serious, not hypocritical, not next to much wine, not greedy for dishonest gain; ^3:9holding the mystery of the Faith in a pure conscience. ^3:10And let these also first be tested; then let them use the office of a Deacon, being found blameless. ^3:11Even so must their wives be serious, and not slanderers; sober and faithful in all things.

^3:12Let the Deacons be the husbands of only one wife; ruling their children and their own houses well: ^3:13for they that have used the office of a Deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the Faith which is in Christ Jesus.

^3:14I write these things to you, hoping to come to you shortly; ^3:15but if I delay long, that you may know how you should behave yourself in the House of God; which is the Assembly of the Living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

^3:16And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached to the Gentiles, believed on in the world, and carried up to Heaven in glory.

^4:1Now the Holy Spirit speaks clearly, that in the Latter Times some shall depart from the Faith (giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of demons; ^4:2speaking lies in hypocrisy: having their conscience seared with a hot iron): ^4:3forbidding Pastors to marry; and commanding to abstain from meat, which God has created to be received with thanksgiving by them which believe and know the truth: ^4:4for every creature of God is good; and nothing to be refused (if it is received with thanksgiving), ^4:5because it is sanctified by the Word of God and prayer.

^4:6If you put the brethren in remembrance of these things, you shall be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, unto which you have attained.

^4:7But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise yourself rather to godliness: ^4:8for bodily exercise benefits a little; but godliness is beneficial to all things, having promise of the life that is now, and of that which is to come. ^4:9This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance: ^4:10for therefore we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the Living God, who is the Savior of all men, but especially of those that believe. ^4:11These things command and teach.

^4:12Let no man despise your youth, but be an example of the believers, in spoken word, in conduct, in selfless love, in spirit, in faith, and in sexual purity. ^4:13Until I come, give attendance to reading the Scriptures, to exhortation, and to teaching. ^4:14Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given you by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the elders. ^4:15Meditate upon these things; give yourself wholly to them, that your spiritual growth may appear to everyone. ^4:16Take heed to yourself, and to the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this you shall both save yourself, and them that hear you.

^5:1Do not rebuke an older man, but treat him like a father, and the younger men as brothers, ^5:2the older women as mothers, and the younger women as sisters, with all sexual purity.

^5:3Honor widows that are widows in truth; ^5:4but if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them learn first to show piety at home, and take care of their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God. ^5:5Now she that is a widow in truth (and is desolate) trusts in God, and continues in supplications and prayers night and day. ^5:6But the promiscuous woman is spiritually dead while she lives. ^5:7And these things give in charge, that they may be blameless. ^5:8But if anyone does not provide for the needs of his own relatives, and especially for those of his own household, he has denied the Faith, and is worse than an infidel.

^5:9Do not let a widow be taken into the Assembly welfare roll under sixty years old, having been the wife of one man, ^5:10well reported of for good works: such as, if she has brought up children, if she has lodged strangers, if she has washed the saints’ feet, if she has relieved the afflicted, or if she has diligently followed every good work. ^5:11But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to grow wanton against Christ, they wish to marry; ^5:12having condemnation, because they have cast off their first faith. ^5:13And after that they learn to be lazy, wandering about from house to house; and not only lazy, but gossips also and busybodies, speaking things which they should not. ^5:14I decree therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, and give no occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully: ^5:15for some have already turned aside after Satan. ^5:16And if any man or woman that believes in Christ has relatives who are widows, let them take care of them; and let the Assembly not be burdened, that it may take care of them that are widows in truth.

^5:17Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially they who labor in the Word of God and teaching: ^5:18for the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle the ox that treads out the grain.” And, “The laborer is worthy of his pay.”

^5:19Receive no accusation against an elder, except before two or three witnesses. ^5:20But them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear. ^5:21I charge you before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that you observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by favoritism.

^5:22Ordain no man prematurely; neither be partaker of other men’s sins; keep yourself pure. ^5:23Do not drink water alone any longer, but use a little grape juice for your stomach’s sake and your often infirmities. ^5:24Some men’s sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after. ^5:25Likewise also the good works of some are obvious beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hidden.

^6:3If any man teaches otherwise, and does not consent to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness, ^6:4he is proud, knowing nothing, but obsessing about questions and strifes of words, of which comes envy, strife, railings, evil surmising, ^6:5perverse disputations of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth; supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw yourself.

^6:6But godliness with contentment is great gain: ^6:7for we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out; ^6:8and having food and clothing, let us be content with these things.

^6:9But they that want to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition: ^6:10for the love of money is the root of all evil; which while some coveted after, they have wandered from the Faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

^6:11But you, O man of God, flee these things! And follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and meekness. ^6:12Fight the good fight of faith, and lay hold on Eternal Life, to which you are also called, and have professed a good profession before many witnesses. ^6:13I give you charge in the sight of God (who quickens all things), and before Christ Jesus (who witnessed a good confession before Pontius Pilate), ^6:14that you keep this command without spot, unrebukable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ; ^6:15who in his times he shall show, who is the blessed and only Potentate: the King of kings, and Lord of lords; ^6:16who only has immortality, dwelling in the Light which no man can approach to, whom no man has seen, nor can see: to whom be honor and power everlasting. Amen.

^6:17Charge them that are rich in this Age, that they be not high-minded, nor trust in uncertain riches; but in the Living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy; ^6:18that they do good; that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute money, and willing to share: ^6:19laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on Eternal Life.

^6:20O Timothy, protect that which has been committed to your trust:

avoiding profane and vain babbling, and oppositions of science falsely so called ^6:21(which some professing have gone astray concerning the Faith).

^3:1Este es un verdadero dicho: si alguno anhela a la oficina de un Supervisor, desea una buena obra. ^3:2Un supervisor entonces debe ser irreprochable, marido de una sola esposa, vigilante, sobrio, de buen comportamiento, dado a la hospitalidad, capaz de enseñar; ^3:3no al lado de ningún vino, no rencilloso, no codicioso de ganancias deshonestas, sino moderado, apacible, ajeno de avaricia; ^3:4que gobierne bien su propia casa, que tenga sus hijos en sujeción con toda honestidad ^3:5(porque el que no sabe gobernar su propia casa, ¿cómo cuidará de la Asamblea de Dios?). ^3:6Pero él no debe ser un nuevo creyente, no sea que, siendo enaltecido con orgullo, él cae en la condenación del diablo. ^3:7También es necesario que tenga buen testimonio de los de afuera, para que no caiga en descrédito y en lazo del diablo.

^3:8De la misma manera, los diáconos deben ser serios, no hipócritas, no cerca de mucho vino, no codiciosos de ganancias deshonestas. ^3:9que tengan el misterio de la fe con limpia conciencia. ^3:10Y éstos también sean primero puestos a prueba; y luego ejerzan el diaconado, si fueren irreprensibles. ^3:11Sus esposas asimismo sean honestas, no calumniadoras, sino sobrias, fieles en todo.

^3:12Los diáconos sean maridos de una sola esposa, que gobiernen bien sus hijos y sus casas: ^3:13porque los que ejercen bien el diaconado, adquieren para sí un grado honroso, y mucha confianza en la fe que es en Cristo Jesús.

^3:14Esto te escribo, con la esperanza que vendré pronto a ti, ^3:15para que si tardo, sepas cómo debes conducirte en la casa de Dios, que es la Asamblea del Dios viviente, columna y apoyo de la verdad.

^3:16Y sin contradicción, grande es el misterio de la piedad: Dios fue manifestado en carne, justificado en el Espíritu, visto de los ángeles, predicado a los gentiles, creído en el mundo, recibido arriba en gloria.

^4:6Si haces recordar estas cosas a los hermanos, serás buen ministro de Jesús Cristo, nutrido en las palabras de la fe y de la buena doctrina, la cual has alcanzado.

^4:7Pero desecha las fábulas profanas y de viejas, y ejercítate para la piedad: ^4:8porque el ejercicio corporal para poco es provechoso; pero la piedad para todo aprovecha, pues tiene promesa de la vida presente y de la venidera. ^4:9Este es un verdadero dicho, y digna de ser recibida por todos. ^4:10Que por esto también trabajamos y sufrimos oprobios: porque esperamos en el Dios viviente, el cual es el Salvador de todos los hombres, mayormente de los que creen. ^4:11Esto manda y enseña.

^4:12Ninguno tenga en poco tu juventud; sino sé ejemplo de los creyentes en palabra, en conversación, en caridad, en espíritu, en fe, en pureza. ^4:13Entre tanto que vengo, ocúpate en la lectura, la exhortación y la enseñanza. ^4:14No descuides el don que está en ti, que te fue dado por profecía con la imposición de las manos del presbiterio. ^4:15Medita en estas cosas; ocúpate en ellas; para que tu aprovechamiento sea manifiesto a todos. ^4:16Ten cuidado de ti mismo y de la doctrina; persiste en ello; pues haciendo esto, te salvarás a ti mismo y a los que te oyeren.

^5:1No reprendas al anciano, sino exhórtale como a padre; a los más jóvenes, como a hermanos; ^5:2a las ancianas, como a madres; a las jovencitas, como a hermanas, con toda pureza.

¶Lo opuesto   Tenga cuidado, y no permita que el pecado y el favoritismo entren a la asamblea de la iglesia (5:3 - 25)

^5:3Honra a las viudas que en verdad son viudas. ^5:4Pero si alguna viuda tuviere hijos, o nietos, aprendan éstos primero a ser piadosos en casa, y para cuidar a sus padres: porque esto es bueno y agradable delante de Dios. ^5:5Y la que en verdad es viuda y sola, confíe en Dios, y permanezca en súplicas y oraciones noche y día. ^5:6Pero la que vive en placeres, viviendo está muerta. ^5:7Manda también estas cosas, para que sean irreprensibles. ^5:8Y si alguno no provee para los suyos, y mayormente para los de su casa, ha negado la fe, y es peor que un incrédulo.

^5:9Sea puesta en la lista, la viuda no menor de sesenta años, que haya sido esposa de un solo marido. ^5:10Que tenga testimonio de buenas obras; si crió hijos; si ha ejercitado la hospitalidad; si ha lavado los pies de los santos; si ha socorrido a los afligidos; si ha seguido toda buena obra. ^5:11Pero viudas más jóvenes no admitas: porque cuando, atraídas de sus concupiscencias, se rebelan contra Cristo, quieren casarse ^5:12incurriendo en condenación, por haber abandonado la primera fe. ^5:13Y así también aprenden a ser ociosas, andando de casa en casa; y no solamente ociosas, sino también chismosas e indiscretas, hablando cosas que no debieran. ^5:14Quiero, pues, que las mujeres jóvenes se casen, engendren hijos, gobiernen su casa; que ninguna ocasión den al adversario para decir mal: ^5:15porque ya algunas han vuelto atrás en pos de Satanás. ^5:16Si alguno, o alguna de los creyentes tiene viudas, manténgalas, y no sea gravada la Asamblea; a fin de que pueda ayudar a las que en verdad son viudas.

^5:17Los ancianos que gobiernan bien, sean tenidos por dignos de doble honor; mayormente los que trabajan en predicar y en enseñar: ^5:18porque la Escritura dice, “No pondrás bozal al buey que trilla”. Y, “Digno es el obrero de su jornal”.

^5:19Contra un anciano no recibas acusación sino ante dos o tres testigos. ^5:20A los que pecaren, repréndelos delante de todos, para que los otros también teman. ^5:21Te exhorto delante de Dios y del Señor Jesús Cristo, y de sus ángeles escogidos, a que guardes estas cosas sin prejuicios, que nada hagas con parcialidad.

^5:22No impongas con ligereza las manos a ninguno, ni participes en pecados ajenos; consérvate puro. ^5:23Ya no bebas agua, sino usa de un poco de vino por causa de tu estómago y de tus frecuentes enfermedades. ^5:24Los pecados de algunos hombres se manifiestan antes que vengan a juicio; pero a otros les vienen después. ^5:25Asimismo también las buenas obras de algunos, de antemano son manifiestas; y las que son de otra manera, no pueden ocultarse.

§El complemento   Conclusión: No busques ser rico y protege tu llamado a servir al Señor desde las falsas enseñanzas (6:1 - 21)

¶El complemento   Sed satisfecho con lo que ya tenéis (6:1 - 10)

^6:1Todos los que están bajo yugo de servidumbre, tengan a sus señores por dignos de toda honra, para que no sea blasfemado el Nombre de Dios y su doctrina.

^6:2Y los que tienen amos creyentes, no los tengan en menos por ser hermanos; sino sírvanles mejor, por cuanto son fieles y amados, y partícipes de los bienes. Esto enseña y exhorta.

^6:3Si alguno enseña otra cosa, y no asiente a las sanas palabras de nuestro Señor Jesús Cristo, y a la doctrina que es conforme a la piedad, ^6:4está envanecido, nada sabe, y enloquece acerca de cuestiones y contiendas de palabras, de las cuales nacen envidias, pleitos, maledicencias, malas sospechas, ^6:5disputas perversas de hombres de mente corrompida, y privados de la verdad, que tienen la piedad por ganancia; apártate de los tales.

^6:6Pero la piedad con contentamiento es gran ganancia: ^6:7porque no trajimos nada a este mundo, y es seguro que no podemos llevar nada a cabo; ^6:8y teniendo comida y ropa, contentémonos con estos.

^6:9Pero los que quieren ser ricos caen en tentación y en lazo, y en muchas concupiscencias necias y dolorosas cual ahogan a los hombres en la destrucción y la perdición: ^6:10porque el amor al dinero es la raíz de todo mal; mientras que algunos codiciados después de ello, se han alejado de la fe, y traspasaron a sí mismos a través con muchos dolores.

¶El complemento   Proteja el ministerio sagrado, cual ha sido comprometido con su confianza, de las falsas enseñanzas (6:11 - 21)

^6:11Pero tú, oh hombre de Dios, ¡huye de estas cosas! Y sigue la justicia, la piedad, la fe, el amor, la paciencia, la mansedumbre. ^6:12Pelea la buena batalla de la fe; echa mano de la Vida Eterna, a la cual asimismo eres llamado, habiendo hecho buena profesión delante de muchos testigos. ^6:13Te mando delante de Dios, que da vida a todas las cosas, y de Cristo Jesús, que testificó la buena profesión delante de Poncio Pilato, ^6:14que guardes este mandamiento sin mácula ni reprensión, hasta la aparición de nuestro Señor Jesús Cristo: ^6:15la cual a su tiempo mostrará el Bendito y solo Soberano, Rey de reyes, y Señor de señores; ^6:16el único que tiene inmortalidad, y habita en luz inaccesible; a quien ningún hombre ha visto ni puede ver. A él sea honra y poder sempiterno. Amén.

^6:17A los ricos de este mundo manda que no sean altivos, ni pongan la esperanza en las riquezas inciertas, sino en el Dios vivo, quien nos da todas las cosas en abundancia para que las disfrutemos; ^6:18que hagan bien, que sean ricos en buenas obras, generosos, que con facilidad comuniquen; ^6:19atesorando para sí buen fundamento para lo por venir; que echen mano de la Vida Eterna.

^6:20Oh Timoteo, guarda lo que se te ha encomendado:

evitando las profanas y vanas discusiones, y los argumentos de la falsamente llamada ciencia; ^6:21(el que, algunos profesando, se han extraviado de la fe).
