^1:3Therefore, that which we have seen and heard, we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

^1:4And we write these things to you, so that your joy may be full.

^1:5This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is Light; and in him is no darkness at all. ^1:6If we say that we have fellowship with him, but walk in darkness, we are lying, and not telling the truth.

^1:7But if we walk in the Light, as he is in the Light, we have fellowship one with another; and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son constantly cleanses us from all sin.

^1:8If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

^1:9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

^1:10If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar; and his Word is not in us.

^2:1My little children, I write these things to you, so that you sin not; but if any man sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteous. ^2:2And he himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

^2:3And by this we know that we know him; if we do his Commandments. ^2:4He that says, “I know him”, but does not do his Commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

^2:5But whoso keeps his Word, in him truly is the love of God perfected; by this know we that we are in him. ^2:6He that says that he remains in him ought himself also so to walk, even as Jesus walked.

^2:7Brethren, I do not write a new Commandment to you, but an old Commandment which you had from the beginning. The old Commandment is the Word which you have heard from the beginning.

^2:8Again, a new Commandment I write to you, which thing is true in him and in you, because the darkness is past, and the true Light now shines. ^2:9He that says that he is in the Light, and hates his brother, is in darkness even until now. ^2:10He that loves his brother remains in the Light, and there is no occasion of stumbling in him. ^2:11But he that hates his brother is in darkness, and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because that darkness has blinded his eyes.

^2:12I write to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven you for his Name’s sake. ^2:13I write to you, fathers, because you have known him from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the Evil one.

I write to you, little children, because you have known the Father. ^2:14I have written to you, fathers, because you have known him from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the Word of God remains in you, and you have overcome the Evil one.

^2:15Love not the world; neither the things that are in the world.

If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him: ^2:16for all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

^2:17And the world is passing away, and its lust; but he that is doing the will of God remains forever.

^2:18Little children, it is the Last Time; and as you have heard that the Antichrist shall come, even now there are many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the Last Time. ^2:19They went out from us, but they were not of us: for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us. But they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

^2:20But you have an Anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. ^2:21I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it, and that no lie is of the truth.

^2:22Who is the liar if not he that denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is Antichrist: the one denying the Father and the Son. ^2:23Whosoever denies the Son, does not have the Father; but he that confesses the Son has the Father also.

^2:24Therefore let this doctrine remain in you, which you have heard from the beginning. If this doctrine which you have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, you also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father. ^2:25And this is the promise that he has promised us, even Eternal Life. ^2:26These things have I written to you concerning them that seduce you. ^2:27But the Anointing which you have received of him remains in you; and you do not need that any man teach you; but as the same Anointing teaches you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as he has taught you, you shall remain in him.

^2:28And now, little children, remain in him, so that when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

^2:29If you know that he is righteous, you know that every one that works righteousness is born of him.

^3:1Behold, what manner of love the Father has bestowed upon us, that we should be called the children of God; therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know him. ^3:2Beloved, now are we the children of God, and it does not yet appear what we shall be; but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him: for we shall see him as he is. ^3:3And every man that has this hope in him purifies himself, even as Jesus is pure. ^3:4Whosoever commits sin also transgresses the Law: for sin is the transgression of the Law. ^3:5And you know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and no sin is in him. ^3:6Whosoever remains in him does not practice sin; but whosoever continually sins has not seen him; neither [has he ever] known him.

^3:7Little children, let no man deceive you; he that works righteousness is righteous, even as Jesus is righteous. ^3:8He that continually sins is of the devil: for the devil sins from the beginning. The Son of God was manifested for this purpose, that he might destroy the works of the devil. ^3:9Whosoever is born of God does not practice sin: for his Seed remains in him; and he cannot practice sin, because he is born of God. ^3:10In this the children of God and the children of the devil are revealed: whosoever does not do righteous works is not of God; neither he that does not love his Christian brother: ^3:11for this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. ^3:12Not as Cain, who was of that Evil one, and killed his brother. And why did he kill him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s were righteous.

^3:13Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hates you. ^3:14We know that we have passed from spiritual death to spiritual Life, because we love the Christian brethren. He that does not love his brother remains in spiritual death. ^3:15Whosoever hates his brother is a murderer; and you know that no murderer has Eternal Life dwelling in him. ^3:16In this we know the love of God, because Jesus laid down his life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. ^3:17But whoso has this world’s material good, and sees that his brother has need, and shuts up his bowels of compassion from him, how does the love of God dwell in him?

^3:18My little children, let us not love in word; neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. ^3:19And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him; ^3:20because if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. ^3:21Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, then do we have confidence toward God; ^3:22and whatsoever we ask, we receive from him, because we keep his Commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. ^3:23And this is his Commandment, that we should believe on the Name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us Commandment. ^3:24And he that keeps his Commandments dwells in him, and he in him. And by this we know that he dwells in us, by the Holy Spirit which he has given us.

^4:1Beloved, believe not every spirit; but test the spirits to see whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. ^4:2By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God; ^4:3and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is that spirit of Antichrist, of which you have heard that it would come; and even now is it already in the world.

^4:4You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. ^4:5They are of the world; therefore they speak of the world, and the world hears them. ^4:6We are of God; he that knows God hears us; he that is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the Spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

^4:7Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loves is born of God, and knows God. ^4:8He that does not love, does not know God: for God is love. ^4:9By this was manifested the love of God toward us, because God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. ^4:10Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

^4:11Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. ^4:12No man has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwells in us, and his love is perfected in us. ^4:13By this we know that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. ^4:14And we have seen and testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world. ^4:15Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwells in him, and he in God. ^4:16And we have known and believed the love that God has to us. God is love; and he that dwells in love dwells in God, and God in him. ^4:17Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the Day of Judgment, because as he is, so are we in this world. ^4:18There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has torment. He that fears is not made perfect in love.

^4:19We love him, because he first loved us. ^4:20If a man says, “I love God”, but also hates his brother, he is a liar: for he that does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? ^4:21And we have this Commandment from him, that he who loves God, must also love his brother. ^5:1Whosoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God; and every one that loves him that begot loves him also that is begotten of him. ^5:2By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his Commandments. ^5:3For this is the love of God, that we keep his Commandments; and his Commandments are not grievous. ^5:4For whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith.

^5:5Who is he that overcomes the world, but he that believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

^5:6This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that bears witness, because the Spirit is truth: ^5:7for there are three that bear witness in Heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one; ^5:8and there are three that bear witness in earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree in one. ^5:9If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he has testified of his Son.

^5:10He that believes on the Son of God has the witness in himself. He that does not believe God has made him a liar, because he does not believe the record that God gave of his Son.

^5:11And this is the record, that God has given to us Eternal Life, and this Life is in his Son. ^5:12He that has the Son has Eternal Life; and he that does not have the Son of God does not have Eternal Life.

^5:13These things have I written to you that believe on the Name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have Eternal Life, and that you may continue to believe on the Name of the Son of God.

^5:14And this is the confidence that we have in him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us; ^5:15and if we know that he hears us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have obtained the petitions that we desired of him. ^5:16If any man sees his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that do not sin unto death. There is a sin unto death; I do not say that he shall pray for it. ^5:17All unrighteousness is sin; and there is a sin not unto death.

^5:18We know that whosoever is born of God does not continually sin; but he that is begotten of God protects himself, and therefore the Evil one does not touch him.

^5:19We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in wickedness.

^5:20And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This Jesus is the true God, and Eternal Life.

^5:21Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

^1:7Pero si andamos en Luz, como él está en Luz, tenemos comunión unos con otros, y la sangre de Jesús Cristo su Hijo nos limpia de todo pecado.

^1:8Si decimos que no tenemos pecado, nos engañamos a nosotros mismos, y la Verdad no está en nosotros.

^1:9Si confesamos nuestros pecados, él es fiel y justo para perdonar nuestros pecados, y limpiarnos de toda maldad.

^1:10Si decimos que no hemos pecado, le hacemos a él mentiroso, y su Palabra no está en nosotros.

^2:7Hermanos, no os escribo un Mandamiento nuevo, sino el Mandamiento antiguo que habéis tenido desde el principio; el Mandamiento antiguo es la Palabra que habéis oído desde el principio.

^2:8Otra vez, os escribo un Mandamiento nuevo, que es verdadero en él y en ustedes: porque las tinieblas han pasado, y la Luz Verdadera ya alumbra. ^2:9El que dice que está en Luz, y aborrece a su hermano, está todavía en tinieblas. ^2:10El que ama a su hermano, está en Luz, y no hay tropiezo en él. ^2:11Pero el que aborrece a su hermano, está en tinieblas, y anda en tinieblas, y no sabe a dónde va: porque las tinieblas le han cegado sus ojos.

¶Lo opuesto   Si algún hombre ama al mundo, el amor del Padre no está en él (2:12 - 17)

^2:12Os escribo a ustedes, hijitos: porque vuestros pecados os son perdonados por su Nombre. ^2:13Os escribo a ustedes, padres: porque habéis conocido a Aquél que es desde el principio. Os escribo a ustedes, jóvenes: porque habéis vencido al Maligno.

Si alguno ama al mundo, el amor del Padre no está en él: ^2:16porque todo lo que hay en el mundo, la concupiscencia de la carne, y la concupiscencia de los ojos, y la soberbia de la vida, no es del Padre, sino del mundo.

^2:17Y el mundo pasa, y su concupiscencia, pero el que hace la voluntad de Dios, permanece para siempre.

^2:20Pero ustedes tenéis la unción del Santo, y conocéis todas las cosas. ^2:21No os he escrito porque ignoréis la Verdad, sino porque la conocéis, y porque ninguna mentira es de la Verdad.

^2:22¿Quién es el mentiroso, sino el que niega que Jesús es el Cristo? Éste es Anticristo, el que es negando la igualdad de el Padre y el Hijo. ^2:23Cualquiera que niega al Hijo, no tiene al Padre; pero el que confiesa al Hijo también tiene al Padre.

^2:24Por lo tanto, deja que esta doctrina permanezca en ustedes, la cual has escuchado desde el principio. Si lo que oísteis desde el principio permaneciere en ustedes, también ustedes permaneceréis en el Hijo y en el Padre. ^2:25Y ésta es la promesa que él nos ha dado: incluso la Vida Eterna. ^2:26Estas cosas os he escrito acerca de ellos que os seducen. ^2:27Pero la Unción que ustedes habéis recibido de él permanece en ustedes, y no tenéis necesidad de que alguien os enseñe; sino que como la Unción misma os enseña acerca de todas las cosas, y es Verdadera, y no es mentira, y así como os ha enseñado, ustedes permaneceréis en él.

^3:1Mirad cuál amor nos ha dado el Padre, que seamos llamados hijos de Dios; por esto el mundo no nos conoce: porque no le conoció a él. ^3:2Amados, ahora somos hijos de Dios, y aún no se ha manifestado lo que hemos de ser; pero sabemos que cuando él apareciere, seremos semejantes a él: porque le veremos como él es. ^3:3Y cualquiera que tiene esta esperanza en él, se purifica a sí mismo, así como él es puro. ^3:4Cualquiera que comete pecado, traspasa también la Ley; pues el pecado es transgresión de la Ley. ^3:5Y sabéis que él apareció para quitar nuestros pecados, y no hay pecado en él. ^3:6Todo aquel que permanece en él, no peca; todo aquel que peca, no le ha visto, ni le ha conocido.

^3:7Hijitos, que ningún hombre los engañe; el que hace justicia es justo, así como Jesús es justo. ^3:8El que peca continuamente es del diablo: porque el diablo peca desde el principio. El Hijo de Dios se manifestó para este propósito, que él podría destruir las obras del diablo. ^3:9El que es nacido de Dios no peca continuamente, porque su simiente permanece en él; y él no puede peca continuamente, porque él nació de Dios. ^3:10En esto se revelan los hijos de Dios y los hijos del diablo: el que no hace las obras de justicia, no es de Dios; ni el que no ama a su hermano cristiano: ^3:11porque este es el mensaje que escucharon desde el principio, que debemos amarnos unos a otros. ^3:12No como Caín, quien era de ese maligno, y él mató a su hermano. ¿Y por qué le mató? Porque sus propias obras eran malas, y las de su hermano eran justas.

^3:13Hermanos míos, no os maravilléis si el mundo os aborrece. ^3:14Nosotros sabemos que hemos pasado de muerte a vida, en que amamos a los hermanos. El que no ama a su hermano, permanece en muerte. ^3:15Todo aquel que aborrece a su hermano, es homicida; y sabéis que ningún homicida tiene Vida Eterna morando en sí. ^3:16En esto conocemos el amor de Dios, en que él puso su vida por nosotros; también nosotros debemos poner nuestras vidas por los hermanos. ^3:17Pero el que tiene bienes de este mundo, y ve a su hermano tener necesidad, y le cierra sus entrañas, ¿cómo mora el amor de Dios en él?

^3:18Hijitos míos, no amemos de palabra ni de lengua, sino de hecho y en verdad. ^3:19Y en esto conocemos que somos de la Verdad, y aseguraremos nuestros corazones delante de él. ^3:20Porque si nuestro corazón nos reprende, mayor es Dios que nuestro corazón, y él conoce todas las cosas. ^3:21Amados, si nuestro corazón no nos reprende, confianza tenemos para con Dios; ^3:22y cualquier cosa que pidamos, la recibiremos de él: porque guardamos sus Mandamientos y hacemos las cosas que son agradables delante de él. ^3:23Y éste es su Mandamiento, que creamos en el Nombre de su Hijo Jesús Cristo, y nos amemos unos a otros como nos lo ha mandado. ^3:24Y el que guarda sus Mandamientos, permanece en él, y él en él. Y en esto sabemos que él permanece en nosotros, por el Espíritu que nos ha dado.

^4:1Amados, no creáis a todo espíritu, sino probad los espíritus si son de Dios: porque muchos falsos profetas han salido por el mundo. ^4:2Por esto conoced el Espíritu de Dios: todo espíritu que confiesa que Jesús Cristo ha venido en carne, es de Dios; ^4:3y todo espíritu que no confiesa que Jesús Cristo ha venido en carne, no es de Dios; y éste es el espíritu del Anticristo, del cual ustedes habéis oído que ha de venir, y que ahora ya está en el mundo.

^4:4Hijitos, ustedes sois de Dios, y los habéis vencido: porque mayor es el que está en ustedes, que el que está en el mundo. ^4:5Son del mundo; por eso hablan del mundo, y el mundo los oye. ^4:6Nosotros somos de Dios; el que conoce a Dios, nos oye; el que no es de Dios, no nos oye. En esto conocemos el Espíritu de Verdad y el espíritu de error.

^4:7Amados, amémonos unos a otros: porque el amor es de Dios. Todo el que ama, es nacido de Dios, y conoce a Dios. ^4:8El que no ama no conoce a Dios: porque Dios es amor. ^4:9En esto se mostró el amor de Dios para con nosotros, en que Dios envió a su Hijo unigénito al mundo, para que vivamos por él. ^4:10En esto consiste el amor; no en que nosotros hayamos amado a Dios, sino que él nos amó a nosotros, y envió a su Hijo en propiciación por nuestros pecados.

^4:11Amados, si Dios así nos ha amado, debemos también nosotros amarnos unos a otros. ^4:12A Dios nadie le vio jamás. Si nos amamos unos a otros, Dios permanece en nosotros, y su amor se perfecciona en nosotros. ^4:13En esto conocemos que permanecemos en él, y él en nosotros, en que nos ha dado de su Espíritu. ^4:14Y nosotros hemos visto y testificamos que el Padre ha enviado al Hijo para ser el Salvador del mundo. ^4:15Todo aquel que confiese que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios, Dios permanece en él, y él en Dios. ^4:16Y nosotros hemos conocido y creído el amor que Dios tiene para con nosotros. Dios es amor; y el que permanece en amor, permanece en Dios, y Dios en él. ^4:17En esto es perfeccionado el amor en nosotros, para que tengamos confianza en el Día del Juicio; pues como él es, así somos nosotros en este mundo. ^4:18En el amor no hay temor; pero el perfecto amor echa fuera el temor: porque el temor conlleva castigo. Y el que teme no ha sido perfeccionado en el amor.

^4:19Nosotros le amamos a él: porque él nos amó primero. ^4:20Si alguno dice, “Yo amo a Dios”, y aborrece a su hermano, es mentiroso: porque el que no ama a su hermano a quien ha visto, ¿cómo puede amar a Dios a quien no ha visto? ^4:21Y nosotros tenemos este Mandamiento de él, que el que ama a Dios, ame también a su hermano. ^5:1Todo aquel que cree que Jesús es el Cristo, es nacido de Dios; y todo aquel que ama al que engendró, ama también al que es engendrado por él. ^5:2En esto conocemos que amamos a los hijos de Dios, cuando amamos a Dios y guardamos sus Mandamientos: ^5:3porque éste es el amor de Dios, que guardemos sus Mandamientos; y sus Mandamientos no son gravosos: ^5:4porque todo lo que es nacido de Dios vence al mundo; y ésta es la victoria que ha vencido al mundo, nuestra fe.

^5:5¿Quién es el que vence al mundo, sino el que cree que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios?

^5:6Éste es el que vino mediante agua y sangre, Jesús Cristo; no mediante agua solamente, sino mediante agua y sangre. Y el Espíritu es el que da testimonio: porque el Espíritu es la Verdad: ^5:7porque tres son los que dan testimonio en el Cielo: el Padre, el Verbo y el Espíritu Santo; y estos tres son uno; ^5:8y tres son los que dan testimonio en la tierra: el Espíritu, el agua, y la sangre; y estos tres concuerdan en uno. ^5:9Si recibimos el testimonio de los hombres, el testimonio de Dios es mayor: porque éste es el testimonio de Dios que él ha dado acerca de su Hijo.

^5:10El que cree en el Hijo de Dios, tiene el testimonio en sí mismo; el que no cree a Dios, le ha hecho mentiroso: porque no ha creído en el testimonio que Dios ha dado de su Hijo.

^5:11Y éste es el testimonio, que Dios nos ha dado Vida Eterna; y esta Vida está en su Hijo. ^5:12El que tiene al Hijo, tiene la Vida; el que no tiene al Hijo de Dios, no tiene la Vida.

^5:13Estas cosas os he escrito a ustedes que creéis en el Nombre del Hijo de Dios, para que sepáis que tenéis Vida Eterna, y para que creáis en el Nombre del Hijo de Dios.

^5:14Y ésta es la confianza que tenemos en él, que si pedimos alguna cosa conforme a su voluntad, él nos oye. ^5:15Y si sabemos que él nos oye en cualquier cosa que pidamos, sabemos que tenemos las peticiones que le hayamos hecho. ^5:16Si alguno ve a su hermano cometer pecado no de muerte, pedirá, y Dios le dará vida; digo a los que pecan no de muerte. Hay pecado de muerte, por el cual yo no digo que se pida. ^5:17Toda maldad es pecado; pero hay pecado no de muerte.

^5:18Sabemos que cualquiera que es nacido de Dios, no peca: porque el que es engendrado de Dios, se guarda a sí mismo, y el Maligno no le toca.

^5:19Sabemos que somos de Dios, y el mundo entero yace en maldad.

^5:20Y sabemos que el Hijo de Dios ha venido, y nos ha dado entendimiento para conocer al que es verdadero; y estamos en el verdadero, en su Hijo Jesús Cristo. Éste Jesús es el verdadero Dios, y la Vida Eterna.
