^1:7Even as it is right for me to think this of you all (because I have you in my heart), inasmuch as both in my chains, and in the defense and confirmation of the Gospel, you all are sharers of my grace.

^1:8For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the affections of Jesus Christ.

^1:9And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all discernment; ^1:10that you may approve things that are excellent; and that you may be sincere and without offense until the Day of Christ: ^1:11being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

^1:12But I want you to understand, brethren, that the things which happened to me have fallen out rather to the furtherance of the Gospel, ^1:13so that my chains in Christ are well known in all the palace, and in all other places; ^1:14and many of the brethren in the Lord, growing confident by my chains, are much more bold to speak the Word without fear. ^1:15Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will: ^1:16the one preaches Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my chains; ^1:18but the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defense of the Gospel.

^1:18What then? Notwithstanding, every way (whether in pretense, or in truth) Christ is preached; and I rejoice in it.

Indeed, and I will continue to rejoice: ^1:19for I know that this shall turn to my deliverance from prison through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ; ^1:20according to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body; whether it is by life, or by death: ^1:21for to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

^1:22But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labor; yet what I shall choose I do not know: ^1:23for I am in a strait between two things: having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ, which is far better.

^1:24Nevertheless, to remain in the flesh is more necessary for you; ^1:25and having this confidence, I know that I shall remain and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith, ^1:26so that your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again.

¶Opposite   The suffering and glorification of Christ for the sake of others is our example to follow (1:27 - 2:11)

^1:27Only let your conduct be worthy of the Gospel of Christ, that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the Gospel.

^1:28And in nothing terrified by your adversaries, which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God: ^1:29for to you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake; ^1:30having the same conflict which you saw in me, and now hear to be in me.

^2:1Therefore, if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, ^2:2fulfill my joy, that you be like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

^2:3Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory, but in lowliness of mind let each one esteem others better than themselves: ^2:4each one of you not concerned for his own things, but each one also for the things of others.

^2:5Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus, ^2:6who, although existing in the form of God, thought it unimportant to be equal with God; ^2:7but instead made himself of no reputation, and took upon himself the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men; ^2:8and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient to death, even the death of the cross. ^2:9Therefore God also has highly exalted him, and given him a Name which is above every name, ^2:10that at the Name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in Heaven, and those in earth, and those under the earth; ^2:11and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

¶Complement   Die to your own wants and needs while you hold forth the Word of Life (2:12 - 30)

^2:12Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling: ^2:13for it is God who works in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

^2:14Do all things without murmuring and disputing, ^2:15that you may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation; among whom you shine as lights in the world; ^2:16holding forth the Word of Life, so that I may rejoice in the Day of Christ, that I have not run in vain; neither labored in vain.

^2:17Moreover, even if I am poured out like a drink offering upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all. ^2:18For the same reason also do you joy, and rejoice with me.

^2:19But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus shortly to you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your situation: ^2:20for I have no man like-minded, who will naturally care for your situation: ^2:21for all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ’s. ^2:22But you know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he has served with me in the Gospel. ^2:23Therefore I hope to send him presently, as soon as I shall see how it will go with me.

^2:24But I trust in the Lord that I also myself shall come shortly. ^2:25Yet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labor, and a fellow-soldier; but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants: ^2:26for he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because you had heard that he had been sick: ^2:27for indeed he was sick close to death, but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow. ^2:28Therefore I sent him the more earnestly, that, when you see him again, you may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful. ^2:29Therefore receive him in the Lord with all gladness; and hold such in reputation, ^2:30because for the work of Christ he was near to death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.

¶Complement   Avoid those who attempt to enslave you with a worldly value system (3:1 - 16)

^3:1Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not grievous, but for you it is safe.

^3:2Beware of dogs; beware of evil workers; beware of the concision: ^3:3for we are the true circumcision, who worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.

^3:4Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinks that he has reasons for which he might trust in the flesh, I have more: ^3:5circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, and a Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the Law, a Pharisee; ^3:6concerning zeal; persecuting the Assembly; touching the righteousness which is in the Law of Moses, blameless.

^3:7But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. ^3:8And indeed I count all things but loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things. And I count them as dung, that I may win Christ; ^3:9and be found in him; not having my own righteousness, which is of the Law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith; ^3:10that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable to his death, ^3:11if by any means I might attain to the resurrection of the dead. ^3:12Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect; but I follow after him, if I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

^3:13Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth to those things which are before, ^3:14I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. ^3:15Let us therefore, as many as are spiritually mature, be thus minded; and if in anything you are otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this to you. ^3:16Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule; let us mind the same thing.

¶Unique   Focus on the Savior and not on the things of this world (3:17 - 4:9)

^3:17Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them who walk so as you have us for an example. ^3:18For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and even now tell you weeping, as the enemies of the cross of Christ; ^3:19whose end will be destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame; who mind earthly things.

^3:20For our citizenship is in Heaven; from whence also we look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; ^3:21who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like his glorious body; according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things to himself.

^4:1Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved. ^4:2I urge Euodias, and also urge Syntyche, that they be of the same mind in the Lord. ^4:3And I entreat you also, true yokefellow, help those women who labored with me in the Gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellow-laborers, whose names are in the Book of Life.

^4:4Rejoice in the Lord always; and again I say, rejoice. ^4:5Let your gentleness be known to all men; the Lord is near. ^4:6Be anxious for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. ^4:7And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

^4:8Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think on these things. ^4:9Those things, which you have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do; and the God of peace shall be with you.

^4:15Now you Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the Gospel, when I left Macedonia, no Assembly communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but only you: ^4:16for even in Thessalonica you sent once and again to my necessity. ^4:17Not because I desire a gift, but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.

^4:18But I have all, and abound; I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odor of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, well pleasing to God. ^4:19But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

^4:20Now unto God and our Father be glory into the Ages of the Ages. Amen.

¶Complement   Give greetings to other Believers in Christ, and the grace of Christ will be with you (4:21 - 23)

^1:18¿Qué, pues? Que no obstante, de todas maneras, o por pretexto o por verdad, Cristo es predicado; y en esto me gozo.

Verdaderamente, y me gozaré aún: ^1:19porque sé que por vuestra oración y la suministración del Espíritu de Jesús Cristo, esto se tornará para mi liberación, ^1:20conforme a mi expectación y esperanza, que en nada seré avergonzado; antes con toda confianza, como siempre, así también ahora, Cristo será magnificado en mi cuerpo, o por vida, o por muerte: ^1:21porque para mí el vivir es Cristo, y el morir es ganancia.

^1:22Pero si vivo en la carne, este es el fruto de mi trabajo; sin embargo, lo que voy a elegir no sé: ^1:23porque estoy en un estrecho entre dos cosas; teniendo un deseo de partir y estar con Cristo, que es mucho mejor.

^1:24Sin embargo, quedar en la carne es más necesario por causa de ustedes. ^1:25Y confiado en esto, sé que quedaré y permaneceré con todos ustedes, para vuestro provecho y gozo de la fe, ^1:26para que abunde vuestro regocijo por mí en Jesús Cristo por mi presencia otra vez entre ustedes.

¶Lo opuesto   El sufrimiento y la glorificación de Cristo por el bien de los demás es nuestro ejemplo a seguir (1:27 - 2:11)

^1:27Solamente que os comportéis como es digno del Evangelio de Cristo; para que, ya sea que vaya a veros, o que esté ausente, oiga de ustedes que estáis firmes en un mismo espíritu, unánimes combatiendo juntos por la fe del Evangelio.

^1:28Y en nada intimidados por los que se oponen; que a ellos ciertamente es indicio de perdición, pero a ustedes de salvación, y esto de Dios: ^1:29porque a ustedes es concedido por Cristo, no sólo que creáis en él, sino también que padezcáis por él, ^1:30teniendo el mismo conflicto que visteis en mí, y ahora oís está en mí.

^2:1Por tanto, si hay alguna consolación en Cristo, si algún refrigerio de amor, si alguna comunión del Espíritu, si algún afecto entrañable y misericordias, ^2:2completad mi gozo, que sintáis lo mismo, teniendo el mismo amor, unánimes, sintiendo una misma cosa.

^2:3Ni dejéis que se haga nada a través de contienda o por vanagloria; sino con humildad, cada uno estime a los demás como superiores a sí mismo: ^2:4cada uno de ustedes no preocupado por sus propias cosas, sino cada uno también por las cosas de los demás.

^2:5Deja que esta mente esté en ti, que también estaba en Cristo Jesús; ^2:6quien, aunque él existió en la forma de Dios, pensó que no era importante ser igual a Dios; ^2:7sino, en cambio, él mismo se hizo sin reputación, y él tomó sobre sí la forma de un sirviente, y él fue hecho a semejanza de los hombres; ^2:8y, siendo encontrado en la moda como un hombre, se humilló a sí mismo y se hizo obediente hasta la muerte, incluso la muerte de la cruz. ^2:9Por lo tanto, Dios también le ha exaltado mucho, y le ha dado un Nombre que está por encima de todos los nombres; ^2:10que en el Nombre de Jesús cada rodilla debe doblarse, de los que están en el Cielo, y de los que están en la tierra, y de los que están debajo de la tierra; ^2:11y que toda lengua debe confesar que Jesucristo es el Señor, para la gloria de Dios el Padre.

^2:17Y aunque sea ofrecido sobre el sacrificio y servicio de vuestra fe, me gozo y regocijo con todos ustedes. ^2:18Y asimismo gozaos también ustedes, y regocijaos conmigo.

^2:19Pero espero en el Señor Jesús enviaros pronto a Timoteo, para que yo también esté de buen ánimo, al saber vuestro estado: ^2:20porque a ninguno tengo del mismo ánimo, que sinceramente se interese por ustedes: ^2:21porque todos buscan lo suyo propio, no lo que es de Cristo Jesús. ^2:22Pero ustedes conocéis su probidad, que como hijo a padre, ha servido conmigo en el Evangelio. ^2:23Así que a éste espero enviaros, tan pronto vea cómo van las cosas conmigo.

^2:24Y confío en el Señor que yo también iré pronto a ustedes. ^2:25Pero consideré necesario enviaros a Epafrodito, mi hermano, y colaborador y compañero de milicia, y vuestro mensajero, y ministrador de mis necesidades, ^2:26porque él tenía gran deseo de veros a todos ustedes, y estaba muy apesadumbrado porque habíais oído que estuvo enfermo. ^2:27Pues en verdad estuvo enfermo, cercano a la muerte; pero Dios tuvo misericordia de él, y no sólo de él, sino también de mí, para que yo no tuviese tristeza sobre tristeza. ^2:28Así que le envío con mayor diligencia, para que al verle otra vez, os regocijéis, y yo esté con menos tristeza. ^2:29Recibidle, pues, en el Señor, con todo regocijo; y tened en estima a los que son como él: ^2:30porque por la obra de Cristo estuvo cercano a la muerte, exponiendo su vida para suplir lo que os faltaba en vuestro servicio hacia mí.

^3:1Finalmente, hermanos míos, regocijaos en el Señor. A el escribiros las mismas cosas a ustedes, a mí no me es gravoso, pero para ustedes es seguro.

^3:2Guardaos de los perros, guardaos de los malos obreros, guardaos de la concisión: ^3:3porque nosotros somos la circuncisión, los que en espíritu adoramos a Dios y nos gloriamos en Cristo Jesús, no teniendo confianza en la carne.

^3:4Aunque yo tengo también de qué confiar en la carne, si alguno piensa que tiene de qué confiar en la carne, yo más; ^3:5circuncidado al octavo día, del linaje de Israel, de la tribu de Benjamín, hebreo de hebreos, en cuanto a la Ley, fariseo; ^3:6en cuanto a celo, perseguidor de la Asamblea; en cuanto a la justicia que es en la Ley, irreprensible.

^3:7Pero cuantas cosas eran para mí ganancia, las he estimado como pérdida por amor a Cristo. ^3:8Y ciertamente, aun estimo todas las cosas como pérdida por la excelencia del conocimiento de Cristo Jesús, mi Señor, por el cual lo he perdido todo, y lo tengo por estiércol, para ganar a Cristo, ^3:9y ser hallado en él, no teniendo mi propia justicia, que es de la Ley, sino la que es por la fe de Cristo, la justicia que es de Dios por la fe; ^3:10a fin de conocerle, y el poder de su resurrección, y la participación de sus padecimientos, en conformidad a su muerte; ^3:11si en alguna manera llegase a la resurrección de los muertos. ^3:12No que lo haya ya alcanzado, ni que ya sea perfecto, pero prosigo para ver si alcanzo aquello para lo cual también fui alcanzado por Cristo Jesús.

^3:13Hermanos, yo mismo no pretendo haber ya alcanzado; pero una cosa hago: olvidando ciertamente lo que queda atrás, y alcanzando hacia adelante a esas cosas que están en frente, ^3:14presiono hacia el objetivo de el premio del supremo llamamiento de Dios en Cristo Jesús. ^3:15Así que, todos los que somos perfectos, esto mismo sintamos; y si otra cosa sentís, esto también os lo revelará Dios. ^3:16Pero en aquello a que hemos llegado, andemos por una misma regla, sintamos una misma cosa.

¶Único   Concéntrese en el Salvador y no en las cosas de este mundo (3:17 - 4:9)

^3:17Hermanos, seguid mi ejemplo, y señalad a los que así anduvieren, como nos tenéis por ejemplo: ^3:18porque muchos andan, de los cuales os he dicho muchas veces, y aun ahora lo digo llorando, que son enemigos de la cruz de Cristo; ^3:19cuyo fin será destrucción, cuyo dios es su vientre, y cuya gloria es su vergüenza, que sólo piensan en lo terrenal.

^3:20Pero nuestra ciudadanía está en el Cielo, de donde también esperamos al Salvador, el Señor Jesús Cristo; ^3:21el cual transformará nuestro cuerpo vil, para que sea semejante a su cuerpo glorioso, según el poder con el cual puede también sujetar a sí todas las cosas.

^4:1Así que, hermanos míos amados y deseados, gozo y corona mía, estad así firmes en el Señor, amados. ^4:2A Euodias ruego, y ruego a Sintique, que sean de un mismo sentir en el Señor. ^4:3Y te ruego también a ti, fiel compañero, ayuda a aquellas mujeres que trabajaron juntamente conmigo en el Evangelio, con Clemente también, y los otros de mis colaboradores, cuyos nombres están en el Libro de la Vida.

^4:4Regocijaos en el Señor siempre; otra vez digo, regocijaos. ^4:5Vuestra modestia sea conocida de todos los hombres. El Señor está cerca. ^4:6Por nada estéis afanosos, sino sean conocidas vuestras peticiones delante de Dios en toda oración y súplica, con acción de gracias. ^4:7Y la paz de Dios que sobrepasa todo entendimiento, guardará vuestros corazones y vuestras mentes en Cristo Jesús.

^4:8Por lo demás, hermanos, todo lo que es verdadero, todo lo honesto, todo lo justo, todo lo puro, todo lo amable, todo lo que es de buen nombre, si hay virtud alguna, si alguna alabanza, en esto pensad. ^4:19Lo que aprendisteis y recibisteis y oísteis y visteis en mí, esto haced; y el Dios de paz será con ustedes.

§El complemento   Conclusión: Dé de sus bendiciones físicas y espirituales a otros (4:10 - 23)

¶El complemento   Dad sacrificialmente para satisfacer las necesidades de los misioneros, y Dios proveerá sus necesidades, a su gloria (4:10 - 20)

^4:10Pero en gran manera me regocijé en el Señor de que ya al fin ha reflorecido vuestro cuidado de mí, de lo cual también estabais solícitos, pero os faltaba la oportunidad.

^4:11No lo digo porque tenga escasez; pues he aprendido a contentarme, cualquiera que sea mi situación. ^4:12Sé tener escasez, y sé tener abundancia; en todo y por todo estoy enseñado, así para hartura, como para hambre; para tener abundancia, como para padecer necesidad. ^4:13Puedo hacer todas las cosas a través de Cristo quien me fortalece. ^4:14Sin embargo, bien hicisteis al comunicar conmigo en mi aflicción.

^4:15Y sabéis también ustedes, oh filipenses, que al principio del Evangelio, cuando partí de Macedonia, ninguna Asamblea comunicó conmigo en el asunto de dar y recibir, sino ustedes solos, ^4:16pues aun a Tesalónica me enviasteis lo necesario una y otra vez. ^4:17No es que busque dádivas, sino que busco fruto que abunde a vuestra cuenta.

^4:18Pero todo lo he recibido, y tengo abundancia; estoy lleno, habiendo recibido de Epafrodito lo que enviasteis; perfume de dulce fragancia, sacrificio acepto, agradable a Dios. ^4:19Pero mi Dios suplirá toda su necesidad según sus riquezas en gloria por Cristo Jesús.

^4:20Ahora a Dios y Padre nuestro sea gloria hasta las edades de las edades. Amén.
