If I should say, ‘I have hope; I would have a husband also tonight, and would also bear sons’, ^1:13would you wait for them until they were grown? Would you refrain from having husbands for them? No, my daughters: for it grieves me much for your sakes that the hand of Jehovah has gone out against me.”

Have I not ordered the young men that they shall not touch you? And when you are thirsty, go to the vessels, and drink of that which the young men have drawn.”

^2:10Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said to him, “Why have I found grace in your eyes, that you should take knowledge of me, seeing I am a Gentile?” ^2:11And Boaz answered and said to her, “It has been fully shown me, all that you have done to your mother-in-law since the death of your husband; and how you have left your father and your mother, and the land of your nativity, and have come to a people which you did not know before. ^2:12Jehovah repay your work, and a full reward be given you of Jehovah God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to trust.”

^2:13Then she said, “Let me find favor in your sight, my lord, because you have comforted me; and because you have spoken friendly to your maidservant, though I am not like one of your maidservants.” ^2:14And Boaz said to her, “At mealtime, come here, and eat of the bread, and dip your morsel in the vinegar.” And she sat beside the reapers; and he reached out to give her parched grain. And she ate, and was satisfied, and left.

Blessed is he that took knowledge of you.” And she showed her mother-in-law with whom she had worked, and she said, “The man’s name with whom I worked today is Boaz.” ^2:20And Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, “Blessed is he of Jehovah, who has not left off his kindness to the living and to the dead!” And Naomi said to her, “The man is related to us, one of our near relatives.” ^2:21And Ruth the Moabitess said, “He also said to me, ‘You shall keep fast by my young men, until they have ended all my harvest.’” ^2:22And Naomi said to Ruth her daughter-in-law, “It is good, my daughter, that you go out with his servant girls, that they do not meet you in any other field.” ^2:23So she kept fast by the servant girls of Boaz to glean, until the end of barley harvest and of wheat harvest. And she lived with her mother-in-law.

^3:1Then Naomi her mother-in-law said to her, “My daughter, shall I not seek rest for you, that it may be well with you? ^3:2And now is not Boaz one of our relatives, whose servant girls you were with? Behold, he winnows barley tonight in the threshingfloor. ^3:3Therefore wash yourself, and anoint yourself, and put your clothing upon you; and get down to the floor. But do not make yourself known to the man, until he has finished eating and drinking. ^3:4And it shall be, when he lies down, that you shall take note of the place where he shall lie. And you shall go in, and uncover his feet, and lay yourself down; and he will tell you what you shall do.” ^3:5And she said to her, “All that you say to me I will do.”

^3:6And she went down to the floor, and did according to all that her mother-in-law told her. ^3:7And when Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of grain; and she came softly, and uncovered his feet, and laid herself down. ^3:8And it came to pass at midnight, that the man was afraid, and turned himself; and, behold, a woman lay at his feet. ^3:9And he said, “Who are you?” And she answered, “I am Ruth your maidservant; therefore spread your skirt over your maidservant: for you are a close relative.”

^3:10And he said, “Blessed are you of Jehovah, my daughter: for you have shown more kindness in the latter end than at the beginning, inasmuch as you did not follow young men, whether poor or rich. ^3:11“And now, my daughter, fear not; I will do to you all that you request: for all the city of my people knows that you are a virtuous woman. ^3:12And now it is true that I am your close relative; nevertheless, there is a relative closer than I. ^3:13Wait this night; and it shall be in the morning, that if he will perform the part of a relative to you, good; let him do the relative’s part; but if he will not do the part of a relative to you, then will I do the part of a relative to you, as Jehovah lives. Lie down until the morning.”

^3:14And she lay at his feet until the morning; and she rose up before one could know another. And he said, “Let it not be known that a woman came into the floor.”

^3:15Also he said, “Bring the veil that you have upon you, and hold it.” And when she held it, he measured six measures of barley, and laid it on her; and she went into the city. ^3:16And when she came to her mother-in-law, she said, “How are you, my daughter?” And she told her all that the man had done to her; ^3:17and she said, “He gave me these six measures of barley: for he said to me, ‘Do not go empty to your mother-in-law.’” ^3:18Then she said, “Sit still, my daughter, until you know how the matter will fall: for the man will not be in rest, until he has finished the thing this day.”

§Complement Conclusion: God gave Boaz and Ruth a son, Obed; who became the grandfather of David (4:1 - 22)

Turn aside, and sit down here.” And he turned aside, and sat down. ^4:2And he took ten men of the elders of the city, and said, “Sit down here.” And they sat down. ^4:3And he said to the relative, “Naomi, that has returned out of the country of Moab, is selling a parcel of land, which belonged to our brother Elimelech; ^4:4and I thought to inform you, saying, ‘Buy it before the inhabitants, and before the elders of my people.’ If you will redeem it, redeem it; but if you will not redeem it, then tell me, that I may know: for there is no one to redeem it beside you; and I am after you.” And he said, “I will redeem it.”

^4:5Then Boaz said, “What day you buy the field of the hand of Naomi, you must also buy it of Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.” ^4:6And the relative said, “I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I mar my own inheritance; redeem my right to yourself: for I cannot redeem it.” ^4:7Now this was the custom in former time in Israel concerning redeeming and concerning exchanging, in order to confirm all things; a man plucked off his shoe, and gave it to his neighbor; and this was a testimony in Israel. ^4:8Therefore the relative said to Boaz, “Buy it for yourself.” So he drew off his shoe.

^4:9And Boaz said to the elders, and to all the people, “You are witnesses this day, that I have purchased all that was Elimelech’s, and all that was Chilion’s and Mahlon’s, of the hand of Naomi.

Jehovah make the woman that has come into your house like Rachel and like Leah, which two built the house of Israel. Y ella contó a su suegra con quién había trabajado, y dijo, “El nombre del varón con quien hoy he trabajado es Boaz”. ^2:20Y dijo Noemí a su nuera, “Sea él bendito de Jehová, pues que no ha rehusado a los vivos la benevolencia que tuvo para con los finados”. Y Noemí le dijo, “Nuestro pariente es aquel varón, y uno de nuestros redentores”. ^2:21Y Ruth la moabita dijo, “Además de esto me ha dicho, ‘Júntate con mis criadas, hasta que hayan acabado toda mi siega’”. ^2:22Y Noemí respondió a Ruth su nuera, “Mejor es, hija mía, que salgas con sus criadas, y no que te encuentren en otro campo”. ^2:23Estuvo, pues, junto con las criadas de Boaz espigando, hasta que la siega de las cebadas y la de los trigos fue acabada; y habitó con su suegra.

Si quieres redimir, redime; y si no quieres redimir, dímelo para que yo lo sepa: porque no hay otro que redima sino tú, y yo después de ti”. Y él respondió, “Yo redimiré”.

Y se quitó su zapato.

^4:9Y Boaz dijo a los ancianos y a todo el pueblo, “Ustedes sois testigos hoy de que tomo todas las cosas que fueron de Elimelec, y todo lo que fue de Quilión y de Mahalón, de mano de Noemí.
