§Complement (C) Introduction: Paul would not allow pride in his incredible experiences to destroy him (12:1 - 10)

¶Opposite (O) Paul experienced a vision of being caught up into the third Heaven and Paradise (12:1 - 6)

C ^12:1It is necessary for me to continue boasting;

C though it is not profitable for me, I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord.

^12:2I knew a man in Christ more than fourteen years ago (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell; God knows): such a one caught up to the third Heaven.

^12:3And I knew such a man (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell; God knows): ^12:4how that he was caught up into Paradise; and he heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.

^12:5Of such a one will I glory.

Yet I will not glory of myself, but in my frailties: ^12:6for though I would desire to glory, I shall not be a fool: for I will say the truth; but now I forbear, lest any man should think of me above that which he sees me to be, or that he hears of me.

¶Opposite (O) But Paul gloried in his frailties, so that he would be strong in Christ, but weak in himself (12:7 - 10)

^12:7And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations,

there was given to me a thorn in the flesh: the angel of Satan, that he might afflict me, lest I should be exalted above measure.

^12:8For this thing I implored the Lord three times, that it might depart from me; ^12:9and he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you: for my power is made perfect in your weakness.”

Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my frailties, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

C ^12:10Therefore I take pleasure in frailties, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake:

C for when I am weak, then am I strong.

§Complement (C) Body: Paul demonstrated his apostolic credentials by his godly works (12:11 - 13:4)

¶Opposite (O) Paul had already performed all the signs of an Apostle among the Corinthian Believers (12:11 - 13)

C ^12:11I have become a fool in glorying;

C you have compelled me:

for I should have been commended by you: for in nothing am I behind the highest ranking Apostles, though I am nothing.

^12:12Truly the signs of an Apostle were performed among you, in all patience; in signs, wonders, and mighty deeds.

^12:13For what is it in which you were inferior to other congregations, except that I myself was not burdensome to you?

Forgive me this “wrong”.

¶Opposite (O) Paul loved the Corinthian Believers more, but they loved him less for it (12:14 - 15)

^12:14Behold, the third time I am ready to come to you;

and I will not be burdensome to you: for I do not seek yours, but you:

for the children should not lay up for the parents,

but the parents for the children.

C ^12:15And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you;

C though the more abundantly I love you, the less I am loved.

¶Complement (C) Paul demonstrated his personal integrity by sending both Titus and a brother to escort their love offering to Jerusalem (12:16 - 18)

C ^12:16But be it so, I did not burden you;

C nevertheless, being crafty, I caught you with guile.

^12:17Did I make a gain of you by any of them whom I sent to you?

^12:18I asked Titus to go; and with him I sent a brother.

Did Titus make a gain of you?

Did we not walk in the same spirit? Did we not walk in the same steps?

¶Complement (C) Paul did all things for their spiritual strengthening/edification (12:19 - 21)

C ^12:19Again, do you think that we excuse ourselves to you? We speak before God in Christ.

C But we do all things, dearly beloved, for your spiritual strengthening.

^12:20For I fear; lest, when I come, I will not find you such as I would prefer;

and that I shall be found to you such as you do not wish: lest there are debates, envying, wraths, striving, backbiting, whisperings, swellings, or tumults.

^12:21And I am afraid that, when I come, my God will again humble me among you;

and that I will bewail many who have sinned already, and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and licentiousness which they have committed.

¶Unique (U) If Paul came again, he would demonstrate the power of God toward them (13:1 - 4)

^13:1This is the third time I am coming to you.

“In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.”

^13:2I told you before; and foretell you, as if I were present, the second time; and being absent now I write to them who before have sinned, and to all others, that, if I come again, I will not spare.

^13:3Since you seek a proof of Christ speaking in me; which toward you is not weak, but is mighty in you.

C ^13:4For though he was crucified through weakness, yet he lives by the power of God:

C for we also are weak in him; but we shall live with him by the power of God toward you.

§Unique (U) Conclusion: Paul wanted only the best and highest for the Corinthian Believers (13:5 - 14)

¶Complement (C) Paul wrote these things, so that the Corinthian Believers would grow spiritually (13:5 - 10)

^13:5Examine yourselves, to see whether you are truly in the Faith; test your own selves. Do you not know your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, unless you are reprobates?

^13:6But I trust that you shall know that we are not reprobates.

^13:7Now I pray to God that you do no evil; not that we should appear approved, but that you should do that which is honest, though we are as reprobates.

^13:8For we can do nothing against the Truth, but for the Truth: ^13:9for we are glad, when we are weak and you are strong.

C And this also we wish, even your spiritual maturity;

C ^13:10therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present I should use sharpness, according to the power which the Lord has given me for spiritual strengthening, and not to destruction.

¶Complement (C) Greet one another and the Triune God be with you all (13:11 - 14)

^13:11Finally, brethren, rejoice; be mature; be of good comfort; be of one mind; live in peace;

and the God of love and peace shall be with you.

^13:12Greet one another with a holy kiss.

^13:13All the saints greet you.

C ^13:14The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

C Amen.

§El complemento (C) Introducción: Paul no permitiría que el orgullo de sus increíbles experiencias le destruyera (12:1 - 10)

¶Lo opuesto (O) Pablo experimentó una visión de ser atrapado arriba en al tercer cielo y el paraíso (12:1 - 6)

^12:2Conozco a un hombre en Cristo, que hace catorce años (si en el cuerpo, no lo sé; si fuera del cuerpo, no lo sé; Dios lo sabe) fue arrebatado hasta el tercer Cielo.

^12:3Y conozco al tal hombre (si en el cuerpo, o fuera del cuerpo, no lo sé; Dios lo sabe), ^12:4que fue arrebatado al Paraíso, donde oyó palabras inefables, que al hombre no le es lícito expresar.

^12:5De tal hombre me gloriaré.

todavía de mí mismo no me gloriaré, sino en mis debilidades: ^12:6por lo cual si quisiera gloriarme, no sería insensato: porque diría verdad; pero ahora me abstengo, para que nadie piense de mí más de lo que en mí ve, u oye de mí.

¶Lo opuesto (O) Pero Pablo se glorió en sus debilidades, para ser fuerte en Cristo, pero débil en sí mismo (12:7 - 10)

^12:7Y para que no me enaltezca desmedidamente por la grandeza de las revelaciones,

un aguijón en la carne me fue dado: el ángel de Satanás, para afligirme, para que no me enaltezca sobremanera.

^12:8Por lo cual tres veces he rogado al Señor, que lo quite de mí. ^12:9Y me ha dicho, “Mi gracia es suficiente para ti: porque mi poder se perfecciona en tu debilidad”.

Por tanto, de buena gana me gloriaré más bien en mis debilidades, para que habite en mí el poder de Cristo.

C ^12:10Por lo cual me gozo en las debilidades, en afrentas, en necesidades, en persecuciones, en angustias por amor a Cristo:

C porque cuando soy débil, entonces soy poderoso.

§El complemento (C) Cuerpo: Pablo demostró sus credenciales apostólicas con sus obras piadosas (12:7 - 13:4)

¶Lo opuesto (O) Pablo ya había hecho todas las señales de un apóstol entre los creyentes corintios (12:11 - 13)

C ^12:11Me he hecho un necio al gloriarme;

C ustedes me han obligado:

pues yo debía de ser alabado por ustedes: porque en nada soy menos que aquellos grandes Apóstoles, aunque nada soy.

^12:12Verdaderamente las señales de un apóstol fueron hechas entre ustedes, con toda paciencia; en señales, prodigios y obras poderosas.

^12:13Porque ¿en qué manera fuisteis inferiores a otras congregaciones, sino que yo mismo no fui una carga para ustedes?

Perdonadme este “mal”.

¶Lo opuesto (O) Pablo amaba más a los creyentes corintios, pero ellos lo amaban menos por eso (12:14 - 15)

^12:14He aquí estoy preparado para ir a ustedes la tercera vez;

y no os seré gravoso: porque no busco lo vuestro, sino a ustedes.

Porque no han de atesorar los hijos para los padres,

sino los padres para los hijos.

C ^12:15Y yo de buena gana gastaré y seré gastado para ti;

C aunque amándoos más, sea amado menos.

¶El complemento (C) Pablo demostró su integridad personal al enviar a Tito y a un hermano para escoltar su ofrenda de amor a Jerusalén (12:16 - 18)

C ^12:16Pero sea así, yo no fui carga a ustedes;

C sin embargo, siendo astuto, os pillé con engaño.

^12:17¿Acaso os he engañado por alguno de los que os he enviado?

^12:18Rogué a Tito, y envié con él un hermano.

¿Os engañó quizá Tito?

¿No hemos procedido con el mismo espíritu, y en las mismas pisadas?

¶El complemento (C) Pablo hizo todo por el fortalecimiento espiritual de ellos (12:19 - 21)

C ^12:19¿Pensáis aún que nos excusamos con ustedes? Delante de Dios en Cristo hablamos.

C Pero todo lo hacemos, muy amados, para vuestra edificación.

^12:20Porque temo; no sea que cuando llegue, yo os no halle tal como preferiría;

que haya entre ustedes contiendas, envidias, iras, disensiones, insidias, murmuraciones, presunciones, desórdenes.

^12:21No sea que cuando volviere, mi Dios me humille entre ustedes;

y haya de llorar por muchos de los que antes han pecado, y no se han arrepentido de la inmundicia y fornicación, y la lascivia que han cometido.

¶Único (U) Si Pablo volviera, demostraría el poder de Dios hacia ellos (13:1 - 4)

^13:1Ésta es la tercera vez que voy a ustedes.

“Por boca de dos o de tres testigos toda palabra será establecida”.

^13:2Os he dicho antes, y ahora os digo otra vez como si estuviera presente, y ahora ausente lo escribo a los que antes pecaron, y a todos los demás, que si vengo otra vez, no seré indulgente.

^13:3Pues que buscáis una prueba de que Cristo habla en mí, el cual no es débil para con ustedes, antes es poderoso en ustedes.

C ^13:4Porque aunque fue crucificado en flaqueza, sin embargo vive por el poder de Dios.

C Porque también nosotros somos débiles en él; pero viviremos con él por el poder de Dios para con ustedes.

§Único (U) Conclusión: Pablo solo quería lo mejor y más alto para los creyentes corintios (13:5 - 14)

¶El complemento (C) Pablo escribió estas cosas, para que los creyentes corintios crecieran espiritualmente (13:5 - 10)

^13:5Examinaos a ustedes mismos si estáis en la fe; probaos a ustedes mismos. ¿No os conocéis a ustedes mismos, que Jesús Cristo está en ustedes, a menos que seáis reprobados?

^13:6Pero confío que sabréis que nosotros no somos reprobados.

^13:7Y oro a Dios que ninguna cosa mala hagáis; no para que nosotros aparezcamos aprobados, sino para que ustedes hagáis lo que es bueno, aunque nosotros seamos como reprobados.

^13:8Porque nada podemos contra la verdad, sino por la verdad. ^13:9Por lo cual nos gozamos en que seamos débiles, y que ustedes seáis fuertes.

C Y aun deseamos vuestra perfección.

C ^13:10Por tanto os escribo esto estando ausente, no sea que estando presente os trate con dureza, conforme a la potestad que el Señor me ha dado para edificación, y no para destrucción.

¶El complemento (C) Salúdense y el Dios Triuno esté con todos ustedes (13:11 - 14)

^13:11Finalmente, hermanos, gozaos; sed perfectos, tened consolación, sed de una misma mente, tened paz;

y el Dios de amor y paz será con ustedes.

^13:12Saludaos los unos a los otros con ósculo santo.

^13:13Todos los santos os saludan.

C ^13:14La gracia del Señor Jesús Cristo, y el amor de Dios, y la comunión del Espíritu Santo sea con todos ustedes.
