§Unique (U) Introduction: Paul was an example of a spiritual Christian in every way (10:1 - 6)

¶Opposite (O) Paul was humble toward the Corinthian Believers in person, but bold in his letters to them (10:1 - 2)

C ^10:1Now I, Paul myself, implore you,

C by the meekness and gentleness of Christ,

who in presence am humble among you,

but being absent am bold toward you.

^10:2But I ask, so that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, with which I think to be bold against some,

who think of us as if we walked according to the flesh.

¶Opposite (O) Paul used spiritual warfare to control every thought and bring it into captivity to Christ (10:3 - 6)

^10:3For though we walk in the flesh,

we do not war after the flesh.

^10:4For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal,

but mighty through God to the pulling down of fortresses of sin;

C ^10:5casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God; and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

C ^10:6and having in a readiness to punish all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

§Complement (C) Body: Paul wanted to win souls and preach the Gospel, instead of playing power games with his critics (10:7 - 11:15)

¶Unique (U) The critics of Paul were more concerned with his physical appearance than spiritual power (10:7 - 10)

^10:7Do you look on things after the outward appearance?

If any man trusts to himself that he is Christ’s, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ’s, even so are we Christ’s.

^10:8For though I will boast somewhat more of our authority which the Lord has given us for spiritual strengthening, and not for your destruction),

I will not be ashamed, ^10:9that I may not seem as if I would terrify you by letters.

C ^10:10For “His letters,” they say, “are weighty and powerful;

C but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible.”

¶Complement (C) Paul refused to try to win a popularity contest with his critics in the Assembly in Corinth (10:11 - 13)

C ^10:11Let such a one think this, that, such as we are in word by letters when we are absent,

C such will we be also in deed when we are present:

^10:12for we dare not place ourselves in the same rank, nor to compare ourselves with some that commend themselves;

but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.

^10:13But we will not boast of things without our measure;

but according to the measure of the rule which God has distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you.

¶Complement (C) Paul was more concerned with reaching out to the regions beyond Corinth than trying to permanently dominate that Assembly (10:14 - 18)

C ^10:14For we do not stretch ourselves beyond our measure, as though we did not reach to you:

C for we have come as far as to you also in preaching the Gospel of Christ:

^10:15not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men’s labors;

but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly: ^10:16to preach the Gospel in the regions beyond you; and not to boast in another man’s line of things made ready to our hand.

^10:17But it is written, “he that glories, let him glory in the Lord.”

^10:18For not he that commends himself is approved, but whom the Lord commends.

¶Opposite (O) Paul feared that the Corinthian Believers were vulnerable to follwoing a false Jesus, a false spirit, and a false gospel (11:1 - 6)

C ^11:1Would to God you could bear with me a little in my folly; and indeed bear with me:

C ^11:2for I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

^11:3But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his cunning, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

^11:4For if he that comes preaching another “Jesus”, whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different “spirit”, which you have not already received, or a different “gospel”, which you have not already accepted, you might well bear with him.

^11:5For I account that I was not inferior to the highest ranking Apostles.

^11:6Even though untrained in speech (but not in knowledge), yet we have been thoroughly made manifest among you in all things.

¶Opposite (O) The servants of Satan are transformed as ministers of righteousness, whose end shall be according to their works (11:7 - 15)

^11:7Have I committed an offense, in abasing myself that you might be exalted, because I have preached the Gospel of God to you freely? ^11:8I deprived other Assemblies, taking wages from them, to do you service. ^11:9And when I was present with you, and wanted, I was burdensome to no man: for that which was lacking to me the brethren who came from Macedonia supplied. And in all things I have kept myself from being burdensome to you; and so will I keep myself.

^11:10As the truth of Christ is in me, no man shall stop me of this boasting in the regions of Achaia.

^11:11Why? Because I do not love you? God knows. ^11:12But what I do, that I will do, so that I may cut off occasion from them who desire occasion, so that whatever they glory in, they may be found even as we.

^11:13For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the Apostles of Christ.

C ^11:14And no marvel: for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light;

C ^11:15therefore it is no great thing if his servants also are transformed as the ministers of righteousness, whose end shall be according to their works.

§Complement (C) Conclusion: Paul did everything possible to advance the Gospel at the risk of his own health and safety (11:16 - 33)

^11:16I say again, let no man think of me as a fool; if otherwise, yet as a fool receive me, that I may boast myself a little. ^11:17That which I speak, I speak it not after the Lord, but as it were foolishly, in this confidence of boasting. ^11:18Seeing that many glory after the flesh, I will glory also: ^11:19for you suffer fools gladly, seeing you yourselves are wise: ^11:20for you suffer, if a man brings you into slavery, if a man devours you, if a man takes something from you, if a man exalts himself, or if a man strikes you on the face.

^11:21I speak as concerning reproach, as though we were weak.

Nevertheless wheresoever any are bold (I speak foolishly), I am also bold.

^11:22Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they the seed of Abraham? So am I.

C ^11:23Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more: in labors more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths often. ^11:24Of the Jews five times I received forty stripes except one. ^11:25Three times I was beaten with rods; once I was stoned; three times I suffered shipwreck; a night and a day have I been in the deep sea; ^11:26in journeys often; in perils of waters, in perils from thieves, in perils by my own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, and in perils among false brethren; ^11:27in weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fasting often, in cold and nakedness.

C ^11:28And beside other matters, that which comes upon me daily: the care of all the Assemblies.

¶Complement (C) Paul made a narrow escape from the governor of Damascus early in his ministry (11:29 - 33)

^11:29Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is offended, and I do not burn?

^11:30If I must glory, I will glory of the things which concern my frailties. ^11:31The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is blessed forevermore, knows that I do not lie.

^11:32In Damascus, the governor under Aretas the king kept the city of the Damascenes with a garrison,

wanting to arrest me;

C ^11:33and through a window in a basket was I let down by the wall;

C and I escaped his hands.

¶Lo opuesto (O) Pablo usó la guerra espiritual para llevar sus pensamientos en al cautiverio a Cristo (10:3 - 6)

^10:3Pues aunque andamos en la carne,

no militamos según la carne;

^10:4porque las armas de nuestra milicia no son carnales,

sino poderosas en Dios para la destrucción de fortalezas;

C ^10:5derribando argumentos y toda altivez que se levanta contra el conocimiento de Dios; y trayendo cautivo todo pensamiento a la obediencia de Cristo;

C ^10:6y estando prestos para castigar toda desobediencia, cuando vuestra obediencia fuere perfecta.

§El complemento (C) Cuerpo: Paul quería ganar almas y predicar el Evangelio, en lugar de jugar juegos de poder con sus críticos (10:7 - 11:15)

¶Único (U) Los críticos de Pablo estaban más preocupados por su apariencia física que por su poder espiritual (10:7 - 10)

^10:7¿Miráis las cosas según la apariencia?

Si alguno está confiado en sí mismo que es de Cristo, esto también piense por sí mismo, que como él es de Cristo, así también nosotros somos de Cristo.

^10:8Porque aunque me gloríe algo más de nuestra autoridad, la cual el Señor nos dio para edificación y no para vuestra destrucción,

no me avergonzaré; ^10:9para que no parezca como que os quiero amedrentar por cartas.

C ^10:10Porque dicen, “Sus cartas son gravosas y fuertes;

C sino su presencia corporal es débil, y su palabra es menospreciable”.

¶El complemento (C) Paul se negó a tratar de ganar un concurso de popularidad con sus críticos en la Asamblea de Corinto (10:11 - 13)

C ^10:11Esto piense el tal, que como somos en la palabra por carta estando ausentes,

C tales seremos también de hecho estando presentes:

^10:12porque no osamos contarnos, o compararnos con algunos que se alaban a sí mismos;

pero ellos, midiéndose a sí mismos por sí mismos, y comparándose consigo mismos, no son sabios.

^10:13Pero nosotros, no nos gloriaremos desmedidamente,

sino conforme a la medida de la regla que Dios nos dio por medida, para llegar aun hasta ustedes.

¶El complemento (C) Paul estaba más preocupado por llegar a las regiones más allá de Corinto que por tratando de dominar permanentemente esa Asamblea (10:14 - 18)

C ^10:14Porque no nos extendemos más de nuestra medida, como si no alcanzásemos hasta ustedes:

C porque también hasta ustedes hemos llegado con el Evangelio de Cristo.

^10:15No gloriándonos desmedidamente en trabajos ajenos;

pero teniendo esperanza de que cuando vuestra fe crezca, seremos mucho más engrandecidos entre ustedes, conforme a nuestra regla. ^10:16Para predicar el Evangelio en las regiones más allá de ustedes, sin entrar en el campo de otro para gloriarnos en lo que ya estaba preparado.

^10:17Pero “El que se gloría, gloríese en el Señor”.

^10:18Porque no el que se alaba a sí mismo, es aprobado; sino el que el Señor alaba.

¶Lo opuesto (O) Pablo temía que los creyentes corintios fueran vulnerables a seguir a un Jesús falso, un espíritu falso y un evangelio falso (11:1 - 6)

C ^11:1¡Quiera Dios que toleraseis un poco mi locura! En verdad, toleradme:

C ^11:2porque os celo con celo de Dios: porque os he desposado a un esposo, para presentaros como una virgen pura a Cristo.

^11:3Pero temo que en alguna manera, como la serpiente engañó a Eva con su astucia, así sean corrompidas vuestras mentes, de la simplicidad que es en Cristo.

^11:4Porque si alguno viene y predica otro “Jesús” que el que os hemos predicado, o recibís otro “espíritu” del que habéis recibido, u otro “evangelio” del que habéis aceptado, bien lo toleráis.

^11:5Pero yo pienso que en nada he sido inferior a aquellos grandes Apóstoles.

^11:6Porque aunque soy rudo en la palabra, no así en el conocimiento; y en todo hemos sido enteramente manifiestos entre ustedes.

¶Lo opuesto (O) Los siervos de Satanás son transformados para aparecer como ministros de justicia, cuyo fin será según sus obras (11:7 - 15)

^11:7¿Acaso pequé humillándome a mí mismo (para que ustedes fueseis ensalzados): porque os he predicado el Evangelio de Dios de balde? ^11:8He despojado a otras Asambleas, tomando salario de ellas, para serviros a ustedes. ^11:9Y estando con ustedes y teniendo necesidad, a ninguno fui carga: porque lo que me faltaba, lo suplieron los hermanos que vinieron de Macedonia; y en todo me guardé de seros carga, y me guardaré.

^11:10Como la verdad de Cristo está en mí; nadie me impedirá esta gloria en las regiones de Acaya.

^11:11¿Por qué? ¿Porque no os amo? Dios lo sabe. ^11:12Pero lo que hago, haré aún, para cortar la ocasión de aquellos que la desean, a fin de que en aquello que se glorían, sean hallados semejantes a nosotros.

^11:13Porque éstos son falsos Apóstoles, obreros fraudulentos, disfrazándose como Apóstoles de Cristo.

C ^11:14Y no es de maravillarse: porque el mismo Satanás se disfraza como ángel de luz.

C ^11:15Por tanto, no es gran cosa si también sus ministros se disfrazan como ministros de justicia; cuyo fin será conforme a sus obras.

§El complemento (C) Conclusión: Pablo hizo todo lo posible para avanzar el Evangelio a riesgo de su propia salud y seguridad (11:16 - 33)

^11:16Otra vez digo, que nadie me tenga por loco; de otra manera, recibidme aun como a loco, para que me gloríe yo un poquito. ^11:17Lo que hablo, no lo hablo según el Señor, sino como en locura, con esta confianza de gloria. ^11:18Puesto que muchos se glorían según la carne, también yo me gloriaré: ^11:19porque de buena gana toleráis a los necios, siendo ustedes sabios: ^11:20porque toleráis si alguno os pone en servidumbre, si alguno os devora, si alguno toma de ustedes, si alguno se ensalza, si alguno os hiere en la cara.

^11:21Lo digo en cuanto a la afrenta, como si nosotros hubiésemos sido débiles.

Sin embargo, en lo que otro tuviere osadía (hablo con locura), también yo tengo osadía.

^11:22¿Son hebreos? Yo también. ¿Son Israelitas? Yo también. ¿Son simiente de Abraham? También yo.

C ^11:23¿Son ministros de Cristo? (como poco sabio hablo) Yo más; en trabajos más abundante; en azotes sin medida; en cárceles más; en peligros de muerte muchas veces. ^11:24De los judíos cinco veces he recibido cuarenta azotes menos uno. ^11:25Tres veces fui azotado con varas; una vez apedreado; tres veces padecí naufragio; una noche y un día estuve en las profundidades; ^11:26en jornadas muchas veces; peligros de ríos, peligros de ladrones, peligros de los de mi nación, peligros entre los gentiles, peligros en la ciudad, peligros en el desierto, peligros en el mar, peligros entre falsos hermanos; ^11:27en trabajo y fatiga, en muchas vigilias, en hambre y sed, en muchos ayunos, en frío y en desnudez.

C ^11:28Además de esto, lo que sobre mí se agolpa cada día, la carga de todas las Asambleas.

¶El complemento (C) Pablo apenas escapó del gobernador de Damasco temprano en su ministerio (11:29 - 33)

^11:29¿Quién es enferma, y yo no enfermo? ¿Quién se ofende, y yo no me quemo?

^11:30Si es necesario gloriarme, me gloriaré en mis flaquezas. ^11:31El Dios y Padre de nuestro Señor Jesús Cristo, que es bendito por siempre, sabe que no miento.

^11:32En Damasco, el gobernador bajo el rey Aretas guardaba la ciudad de los damascenos con una guarnición,

queriendo arrestarme;

C ^11:33y fui descolgado del muro en un canasto por una ventana;

C y yo escapé de sus manos.
