Works in the Kingdom of God, Chapter 2.3 (3 John): Walk in Biblical truth in spite of the power-seekers in the Assembly (1:1 -14)

       Opposite (O)   I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth (1:4)

       Opposite (O)   You do well when you help the missionaries (1:5 - 7)

       Opposite (O)   Therefore we should receive such, that we might be co-laborers for the truth (1:8)

       Complement (C)   Diotrephes disparages us with malicious talk (1:9 - 10a)

       Complement (C)   Diotrephes refuses to receive the missionaries, and forbids them that would (1:10b)

^1:3For I rejoiced greatly when the brethren came, and they testified of the truth that is in you, even as you walk in the truth.

^1:4I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

§Complement (C)   Body: I will deal with the power-seeker, Diotrephes, when I come to visit the church (1:5 -11)

^1:5Beloved, you do faithfully whatsoever you do to the brethren, and to strangers, ^1:6who have borne witness of your selfless love before the Assembly; whom, if you bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, you shall do well, ^1:7because for his Name’s sake, they went forth: taking nothing of the Gentiles.

^1:8Therefore we should receive such, that we might be coworkers for the truth.

^1:9I wrote to the Assembly to do this; but Diotrephes does not receive us, who loves to have the pre-eminence among them. ^1:10Therefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he does, disparaging us with malicious talk.

And, not satisfied with this, he refuses to receive the missionary brothers; and forbids them that would, and even casts them out of the Assembly.

C   ^1:11Beloved, do not follow that which is evil, but that which is good;

C   he that does good is of God; but he that does evil has not seen God.
