The Catholic teaching on purgatory is false

About the Catholic teaching about purgatory: according to Catholic.com:

“The Church gives the name purgatory to this final purification of the elect, which is entirely different from the punishment of the damned. The Church formulated her doctrine of faith on purgatory especially at the Councils of Florence and Trent. The tradition of the Church, by reference to certain texts of Scripture, speaks of a cleansing fire. As for certain lesser faults, we must believe that, before the final judgment, there is a purifying fire. He who is truth says that whoever utters blasphemy against the Holy Spirit will be pardoned neither in this age nor in the age to come. From this sentence we understand that certain offenses can be forgiven in this age, but certain others in the age to come” (CCC 1031). https://www.catholic.com/purgatory

Now, this teaching is a lie, because it takes the words of Jesus out of context of the Bible as a whole; and he falsely tried to make the words of Jesus support the reality of a place called Purgatory.

In other words, the writer tried to create a major Bible teaching out of a supposed implication in the words of Jesus; but there is no such implication.

The only thing that Jesus said was that sins against the Holy Spirit can never be forgiven: not now or in the Age to come; and a sin against Jesus Christ can be forgiven if the sinner repents of his sins and receives Jesus as his Savior. There is no teaching in the Bible that supports the Catholic teaching of deadly sins and non-deadly sins (such as “white lies”). All sin is sin in the eyes of God. There are degrees of sin, to be sure; but all sin is deadly to the sinner: even a single sin, no matter how small, will result in the sinner going to Hell after death. There are no exceptions for those who have not been saved yet.

“Behold, all souls are mine. As the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine. The soul that sins, it shall die.” Ezekiel 18:4

“Now we know that whatsoever things the Law says, it says to them who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be shut, and all the world may become guilty before God; therefore by the works of the Law no flesh shall be justified in his sight: for by the Law is the knowledge of sin.” Romans 3:19-20

The words of the Bible must always be compared with other scriptures to see what the real meaning is; and the fact is, that the Bible knows of no such place as “Purgatory”.

The Bible only teaches two places for those who have died: Heaven and Hell. Heaven for Born-again Believers in Jesus Christ; and Hell (and later, the Lake of Fire) for those who are not Born-again Believers in Jesus Christ.

“And one of the criminals which was hung blasphemed him, saying, “If you are the Christ, save yourself and us!” But the other answering rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, seeing you are in the same condemnation? And we indeed justly: for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.” And he said to Jesus, “Remember me, Lord, when you come in your Kingdom!” And Jesus said to him, “Truly I say to you, today you shall be with me in Paradise.” Luke 23:39-43

Jesus said to the criminal: “Today, you shall be with me in Paradise.” Remember, Jesus was speaking to a criminal! He was a very bad man, who had committed one or more crimes that were punished with death in those days. He was not a member of any church; he had never been baptized; he never knew much about Jesus until those few hours when they hung on crosses together near to each other. He was not a good person, so how could Jesus say to him, “Today, you shall be with me in Paradise”?

The answer is the grace of God! And that is the only way to be saved, because NO ONE is good enough to go to Heaven, no matter how many good works they do.

Ephesians 2:8-9: “For by grace are you saved by faith; and that faith is not not out of yourselves: it is the gift of God; not of our own works, lest any man should boast.”

But the point here is that there was no Purgatory for the thief on the cross: He went IMMEDIATELY to be in Paradise with Jesus. If there was a place called Purgatory, surely then he would have gone there to “burn out” the many sins that he had committed, before God would allow him into Heaven, correct?

Well, that did NOT happen, precisely because there is no such place as Purgatory! It is a myth, invented by the popes to make MONEY from the poor Catholics.

The priest says, “Your Catholic relative is in Purgatory, so if you give me MONEY, I will say masses for him so that he will get out of Purgatory.”

(Next week) The priest says, “Your Catholic relative got his arm out of Purgatory, but the rest of his body is still in there, suffering greatly. But if you give me MONEY, I will say more masses, so that he will get all the way out of Purgatory.”

Do you understand the scam? The popes and priests are telling lies to their poor Catholic people so that they can enrich themselves! There is no Purgatory, and there never was a Purgatory. It is a lie!

Also, to imply that you can purchase something from God with money is wickedness in the extreme!

And when Simon saw that through laying on of the Apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money; saying, “Give me also this authority, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Spirit.” But Peter said to him, “Your money is going into perdition with you, because you have thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. You have neither part nor lot in this matter: for your heart is not right in the sight of God. Therefore repent of this wickedness of yours; and pray God, if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you: for I perceive that you are in the gall of bitterness, and in the bondage of iniquity.” Acts 8:18-23

The Apostle Paul said, “for to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labor; yet what I shall choose I do not know: for I am in a strait between two things; having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ, which is far better.” Philippians 1:21-23

Do you see? The Apostle Paul knew nothing about Purgatory, because it is false. Immediately after death, the Apostle Paul went to Heaven, not to “Purgatory”. Not because Paul had no sins to be “burned out”, but because he was trusting in Jesus Christ ALONE for his salvation; and on the cross, Jesus paid for ALL of his sins: past, present, and future.

The same is true for you and I: if you have been born-again by faith in Jesus Christ, then you also will immediately go to be with Jesus. And, if you have not repented and accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior before you die, then you will go immediately to Hell, to be punished until the Day of Judgment, when Christ will sit on the Great White Throne to judge all sinners and determine their punishment in the Lake of Fire.

“And I saw a Great White Throne, and him that sat on it; from whose face the earth and the Heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the Books were opened; and another Book was opened, which is the Book of Life; and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the Books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and Hell delivered up the dead which were in them; and they were judged every man according to their works. And Death and Hell were cast into the Lake of Fire: this is the second death; and whosoever was not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the Lake of Fire.” Revelation 20:12-15

Again, there is no mention of Purgatory in Revelation, because there is no such place. There is only Heaven, and Hell, with the Lake of Fire afterward for sinners.

If there were such a place as “Purgatory”, then Revelation would have said, “And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and purgatory, death, and Hell delivered up the dead which were in them...” But, that is NOT what the Bible says!

Have you repented and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior? If not, “Now is the accepted time; now is the day of salvation.”

Sobre la enseñanza católica sobre el purgatorio:

Según Catholic.com:

“La Iglesia le da el nombre de purgatorio a esta purificación final de los elegidos, que es completamente diferente del castigo de los condenados. La Iglesia formuló su doctrina de la fe en el purgatorio, especialmente en los Consejos de Florencia y Trento. La tradición de la Iglesia, en referencia a ciertos textos de las Escrituras, habla de un fuego purificador. En cuanto a ciertas las culpas menores, debemos creer que, antes del juicio final, hay un fuego purificador. El que es verdad dice que quienquiera que pronuncie blasfemia contra el Espíritu Santo no será perdonado en esta era ni en la venidera. De esta frase, entendemos que ciertos delitos pueden ser perdonados en esta era, pero ciertos otros en la era venidera.” (CCC 1031). https://www.catholic.com/purgatory

Ahora, esta enseñanza es una mentira, porque toma las palabras de Jesús fuera del contexto de la Biblia en su totalidad; y trató falsamente de hacer que las palabras de Jesús apoyaran la realidad de un lugar llamado Purgatorio.

En otras palabras, el escritor trató de crear una importante enseñanza bíblica a partir de una supuesta implicación en las palabras de Jesús; pero no hay tal implicación.

Lo único que dijo Jesús fue que los pecados contra el Espíritu Santo nunca pueden ser perdonados: ni ahora ni en la Era venidera; y un pecado contra Jesucristo puede ser perdonado si el pecador se arrepiente de sus pecados y recibe a Jesús como su Salvador.

No hay ninguna enseñanza en la Biblia que apoye la enseñanza católica de pecados mortales y pecados no mortales (como las “mentiras blancas”). Todo pecado es pecado a los ojos de Dios. Hay grados de pecado, por supuesto; pero todo pecado es mortal para el pecador: incluso un solo pecado, no importa cuán pequeño sea, hará que el pecador vaya al infierno después de la muerte. No hay excepciones para aquellos que aún no han sido salvos.

“He aquí, todas las almas son mías. Como el alma del padre, así también el alma del hijo es mía. El alma que peca, morirá.” Ezequiel 18:4

“Ahora sabemos que cualquier cosa que la Ley dice, ello dice a los quien están bajo la Ley, para que toda boca se pueda cerrar y todo el mundo se vuelva culpable ante Dios; por lo tanto, por las obras de la Ley, ninguna carne se justificará ante sus ojos: porque el conocimiento del pecado es por la Ley.” Romanos 3:19-20

Las palabras de la Biblia siempre deben compararse con otras escrituras para ver cuál es el significado real; y el hecho es que la Biblia no conoce un lugar como el “Purgatorio”.

La Biblia solo enseña dos lugares para aquellos que han muerto: el Cielo y el Infierno. El Cielo para los creyentes nacidos de nuevo en Jesucristo; e Infierno (y más tarde, el Lago de Fuego) para aquellos que no son creyentes nacidos de nuevo en Jesucristo.

“Y uno de los criminales, quien había sido ahorcado, le blasfemó, diciendo: “¡Si tú eres el Cristo, salva a ti mismo y a nosotros!” Pero la otra le reprendió, diciendo, “¿No temes a Dios, viendo que estás en la misma condenación? Y nosotros con razón, porque recibimos lo que merecieron nuestros hechos; pero este hombre no ha hecho nada mal.” Y dijo a Jesús: “Acuérdate de mí, Señor, cuando vengas en tu Reino.” Y Jesús le dijo: “En verdad te digo, que hoy estarás conmigo en el Paraíso.” Lucas 23:39-43

Jesús le dijo al criminal: “En verdad te digo, que hoy estarás conmigo en el Paraíso.” Recuerda, ¡Jesús estaba hablando a un criminal! Era un hombre muy malo, que había cometido uno o más delitos que fueron castigados con la muerte en esos días. Él no era miembro de ninguna iglesia; nunca había sido bautizado; él sabía poco acerca de Jesús hasta esas pocas horas en que se colgaban de cruces cerca uno del otro. Él no era una buena persona, entonces, ¿cómo podría Jesús decirle: “Hoy estarás conmigo en el Paraíso”?

La respuesta es la gracia de Dios! Y esa es la única manera de ser salvo, porque NADIE es lo suficientemente bueno para ir al Cielo, no importa cuántas buenas obras hagan.

Efesios 2:8-9: “Porque por gracia habéis sido salvado permanentemente por medio de la fe, y esto fe es no desde ustedes; es don de Dios; no por obras, para que nadie se gloríe.”

Pero el punto aquí es que no había purgatorio para el ladrón en la cruz: Él fue INMEDIATAMENTE para estar en el Paraíso con Jesús. Si hubiera un lugar llamado Purgatorio, seguramente él habría ido allí para “quemar” los muchos pecados que él había cometido, antes de que Dios le permitiera entrar al Cielo o Paraíso, ¿verdad?

Bueno, eso NO sucedió, precisamente porque no hay tal lugar como el Purgatorio. Es un mito, inventado por los papas para ganar dinero de los católicos pobres.

El sacerdote dice: “Tu pariente católico está en el purgatorio, así que si me das DINERO, diré misas para que él salga del purgatorio”.

(La próxima semana) El sacerdote dice: “Tu pariente católico sacó su brazo del purgatorio, pero el resto de su cuerpo todavía está allí, sufriendo enormemente. Pero si me das más dinero, diré más misas, para que salga del purgatorio.”

¿Entiendes esta estafa? ¡Los papas y los sacerdotes están mintiendo a sus pobres católicos para que pueden hacerse ricos! No hay purgatorio, y nunca hubo purgatorio. ¡Es una mentira!

Además, para implicar que puedes comprar algo desde Dios con dinero, ¡es la maldad en extremo!

“Y cuando Simón vio que por la imposición de las manos de los Apóstoles se daba el Espíritu Santo, él les ofreció dinero, diciendo, “Dad también a mí este poder, para que sobre cualquiera que yo impongo mis manos, él puede recibir el Espíritu Santo.” Pero Pedro le dijo, “Tu dinero va en a destrucción contigo, porque has pensado que el don de Dios se puede comprar con dinero. No tienes ni parte ni lote en este asunto: porque tu corazón no está recto a los ojos de Dios. Arrepiéntete, pues, de esta maldad tuya, y ruega a Dios, si quizás el pensamiento de tu corazón puede ser perdonado a ti: porque percibo que estás en hiel de amargura y en esclavitud de iniquidad.” Hechos 8:18-23

El apóstol pablo dijo,

“Porque para mí vivir es Cristo, y morir es ganancia. Pero si vivo en la carne, este es el fruto de mi trabajo; Sin embargo, lo que voy a elegir no sé: porque estoy en un estrecho entre dos cosas; teniendo un deseo de partir y estar con Cristo, que es mucho mejor.” Filipenses 1:21-23

¿Lo ves? El apóstol Pablo no sabía nada sobre el purgatorio, porque es falso. Inmediatamente después de la muerte, el apóstol Pablo fue al cielo, no al “purgatorio”. No porque Pablo no tenía pecados para ser “quemados”, sino porque estaba confiando en Jesucristo SOLO para su salvación; y en la cruz, Jesús pagó por TODOS sus pecados: pasado, presente y futuro.

Lo mismo es cierto para ti y para mí: si has nacido de nuevo por la fe en Jesucristo, entonces tú también irás inmediatamente a estar con Jesús. Y, si tú no se arrepintió y aceptó a Jesucristo como su Salvador antes de morir, entonces tú irá inmediatamente al Infierno para ser castigado hasta el Día del Juicio, cuando Cristo se sentará en el Gran Trono Blanco para juzgar a todos los pecadores y determinar sus castigos en el Lago de Fuego.

“Y vi un Gran Trono Blanco, y él que se sentó en ello; desde cuya cara la tierra y el Cielo huyeron lejos, y no se encontró lugar para ellos. Y vi a los muertos, grandes y pequeños, de pie ante Dios; y los libros fueron abiertos; y otro libro fue abierto, cual es el Libro de la Vida; y los muertos fueron juzgados fuera de esas cosas que estaban escritas en los libros, según sus obras. Y el mar entregó los muertos cual estaban en ello; y la muerte y el Infierno entregaron los muertos que estaban en ellos; y fueron juzgados cada uno según sus obras. Y la Muerte y el Infierno fueron arrojados al Lago de Fuego: esta es la segunda muerte; y quienquiera que no fue hallado escrito en el Libro de la Vida fue arrojado al Lago de Fuego..” Revelación 20:12-15

Nuevamente, no se menciona el Purgatorio en el Apocalipsis, porque no hay tal lugar. Solo existe el cielo y el infierno, con el lago de fuego para los pecadores.

Si hubiera un lugar como el “Purgatorio”, entonces la Biblia habría dicho, “Y el mar entregó los muertos cual estaban en ello; y el purgatorio, la muerte y el infierno entregaron los muertos que estaban en ellos;...” Pero, ¡eso NO es lo que dice la Biblia!

¿Te has arrepentido y aceptado al Señor Jesucristo como tu Señor y Salvador personal? Si no, “Ahora es el tiempo aceptado; ahora es el día de salvación.”

Acude a Cristo ahora y recibe su REGALO de Vida Eterna de forma totalmente gratuita:

“Señor Jesús, sé que soy un pecador: ¡he pecado contra ti! Creo que moriste en la cruz por mis pecados, fuiste sepultado, y resucitaste desde entre los muertos en el tercer día. Señor Jesús, creo que eres el Hijo de Dios. Por favor, perdóname mis pecados; y ven a mi corazón y sálvame ahora mismo!

¡Gracias por salvarme! Ayúdame a encontrar una buena iglesia creyente en la Biblia para que asista, y aprende de la Biblia cómo seguirte todos los días. ¡Amén!”
