Who is "Santa Claus"?
This is a special study on the topic of “Santa Claus”. This time of year in the United States, you can hear songs about “Santa Claus” ringing from every music speaker, especially in stores and shopping malls. Even the banks and even public schools will have decorations with Santa and his elves and reindeer.
But exactly who and what is this “Santa Claus”? The history of this myth is not important; all we need to do is look at the myth itself, and compare it to the Word of God to learn the truth. This is not difficult.
I will make the case in this study that “Santa Claus” is none other than Satan himself, hiding behind an idol of a myth. When we examine Satan in the Bible, and then compare him with “Santa Claus”, the false front is removed from the idol and the truth is revealed.
So first, let’s examine what the Bible says about Satan.
1) Lucifer tried to overthrow God Almighty and replace Him in Heaven
The Bible tells us about Satan: an evil angel who was once a good angel who was called “Lucifer”; this evil angel desired to become “like God”. Lucifer was the most powerful and the most beautiful angel in Heaven. He led the worship of Jehovah God in Heaven. This is why Satan is an expert musician; and those who worship Satan are often members of famous bands of rock, punk, heavy metal, rap, jazz, and all kinds of evil godless music. For example, Led Zepplin, AC/DC, and dozens of other Satanic rock bands glorify Satan in their music, because they have sold their souls to the devil, and he helps them to create their wicked music. These are facts that are public information.
But his exalted position in Heaven, along with his personal power and beauty, led to personal pride and arrogance, which caused his downfall from Heaven!
Ezekiel 28:11-15: “Moreover the Word of Jehovah came to me, saying, “Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus; and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord Jehovah: You seal up the sum: full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. You have been in Eden the garden of God. Every precious stone was your covering: the sardius, topaz, the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and your music pipes was prepared in you in the day that you were created. You are the anointed cherub that covers; and I have set you so. You were upon the holy mountain of God; you walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. You were perfect in your ways from the day that you were created, until iniquity was found in you.’”
Proverbs 16:18: “Pride goes before destruction; and an arrogant attitude before a fall.”
1 Timothy 3:6: “But he must not be a new believer, lest being lifted up with pride, he falls into the condemnation of the devil.”
Isaiah 14:12-14: “How have you fallen from Heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How have you been cut down to the ground, who weakened the nations! For you have said in your heart, ‘I will ascend into Heaven; I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High God.’”
Revelation 12:7-9: “And there was war in Heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but prevailed not; neither was their place found anymore in Heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, who deceives the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”
2) Satan and his demons are at war with God
Revelation 12:10-17: “And I heard a loud voice saying in Heaven, “Now has come salvation, and strength, and the Kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, who accused them before our God day and night. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives to the death. Therefore rejoice, you heavens, and you that dwell in them. But woe to the inhabitants of the earth and of the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has but a short time.”
“And when the dragon saw that he was cast into the earth, he persecuted the woman who brought forth the male child. And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent. And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood. And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood that the dragon cast out of his mouth. And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the Commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.”
3) Satan and his demons have control over the entire human race, except for born again Christians
Luke 4:5-8: “And the devil, taking him up into a high mountain, showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said to him, “All this authority will I give you, and their glory: for that has been delivered to me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. Therefore, if you will worship me, all shall be yours.” And Jesus answered and said to him, “Get behind me, Satan! For it has been written, ‘You shall worship [Jehovah] your God, and only him shall you serve.’”
1 John 4:1-6: “Beloved, believe not every spirit; but test the spirits to see whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this, you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God; and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh, is not of God. And this is that spirit of Antichrist; of which, you have heard that it would come; and even now, it is already in the world. You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. They are of the world; therefore they speak of the world, and the world hears them. We are of God; he that knows God hears us; he that is not of God does not hear us. By this, we know the Spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.”
4) Satan has deceived the human race by creating a multitude of false religions
Romans 1:18-23: “For the wrath of God is revealed from Heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness; because that which may be known of God is manifest in them: for God has shown it to them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his Eternal power and Deity, so that they are without excuse. Because when they knew the one true God, they did not glorify him as God; neither were they thankful; but they became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened: professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man, and birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things.”
5) Satan uses false religions and myths as a means to ensure that sinners do not hear or understand the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
2 Corinthians 4:3-4: “But if our Gospel is hidden, it is hidden to them that are lost; in whom the god of this Age has blinded the minds of them who do not believe, lest the light of the glorious Gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine into them.”
Satan wants you to go to Hell, because he knows that one day, he will be cast into the Lake of Fire; and so he wants as many humans as possible to be with him in that terrible place!
Revelation 20:9b-10: “And fire came down from God out of Heaven, and devoured them; and the devil that deceived them was cast into the Lake of Fire and Brimstone, where the Beast and the false prophet are; and they shall be tormented day and night into the Ages of the Ages.”
Now, let’s look at what the world says about “Santa Claus”, and compare that to what the Bible says about Jesus Christ; and then we will see that “Santa” is a very dangerous fraud!
Santa looks very similar to the description of the Lord Jesus Christ in the Bible
Revelation 1:12-16: “And I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. And having turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks. And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girded around the chest with a golden band. His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were like a flame of fire; and his feet like fine bronze, as if they burned in a furnace. And his voice was like the sound of many waters. And he had seven stars in his right hand. And out of his mouth went a sharp two-edged sword. And his countenance was like the sun shining in his strength.”
Santa Claus is dressed in a red suit; Jesus wears a robe that is stained with the blood of his enemies.
Isaiah 63:1-4: “Who is this that comes from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? This One that is glorious in his apparel, traveling in the greatness of his strength?” “I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.” “Why are you red in your apparel, and your garments like him that treads in the winefat?” “I have trampled the winepress alone; and of the people there was no one with me: for I will tread them in my anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my clothing: for the Day of Vengeance is in my heart; and the Year of my Redeemed has come.”
Santa Claus has a large pure white beard, and yells, “Ho, Ho, Ho!” Jesus has a large pure white beard; and his voice is like the sound of many waters.
Revelation 1:13-15: “And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girded around the chest with a golden band. His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were like a flame of fire; and his feet like fine bronze, as if they burned in a furnace. And his voice was like the sound of many waters.”
Santa Claus is coming to town! Jesus is coming to Earth to punish his enemies and reward his servants.
Revelation 19:11-16: “And I saw Heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness does he judge and make war. His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on his head were many diadems. And he had a Name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood; and his Name is called “THE WORD OF GOD.” And the armies which were in Heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And a sharp sword goes out of his mouth, that with it he should smite the nations; and he shall rule them with a rod of iron; and he treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he has on his vesture and on his thigh a Name written: “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”
Santa Claus dwells at the North Pole; Jesus, the most High God, dwells in the sides of the North.
Isaiah 14:12-14: “How have you fallen from Heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How have you been cut down to the ground, who weakened the nations! For you have said in your heart, ‘I will ascend into Heaven; I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High God.’
Santa Claus is “the Spirit of Christmas” who can move instantaneously around the world with his sleigh, which makes him like God! Jesus is God Almighty, who actually IS God!
I John 5:20: “And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This Jesus is the true God, and Eternal Life.”
Santa Claus “knows when you’ve been bad or good, so be good for goodness sake!” Jesus is Almighty God who knows everything, even the thoughts of your heart.
Matthew 9:3-4: “And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, ‘This man is blaspheming.’ And Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, ‘Why do you think evil in your hearts?’”
The name of Santa becomes “Satan” if you move the “n” to the end of the name. Is that just a coincidence? NO! ALL FALSE RELIGIONS AND MYTHS BEGAN WITH SATAN.
Is “Santa Claus” just a harmless myth?
1) Many parents love to tell very young children about Santa Claus, and how he will bring gifts to them on Christmas Eve. So the children stay awake late, hoping to catch Santa as he is leaving gifts under the Christmas tree. Sometimes, they leave milk and cookies for Santa, to give him a snack.
The parents: “Oh look, how cute! They really believe that Santa is coming!” So Dad gets up in the middle of the night and places gifts around the true, and puts fruit in the “Christmas socks” hanging by the fireplace; and eats the milk and cookies.
Then the children get up in the morning, and “Mom! Dad! Santa came last night! Yay!!” And the myth continues.
When the children are very young, they believe their parents! But after they get older, they find out that THEIR PARENTS LIED TO THEM ABOUT SANTA! So, then the kids understand that they were played for a fool, and their parents are liars and cannot be trusted.
"My parents lied to me about Santa! They thought I was stupid!"
From that point forward, the children will NEVER believe everything that mom and dad say to them, because they had taken advantage of their trust and hurt them deeply; and this creates resentment and anger toward their parents.
Those of you who claim this doesn’t happen are only kidding yourself! It is very real!
And if their parents are Christians, but they lied to their children about Santa, this is even worse!
What will their children think about their parents when they realized that their parents lied, but they claim to believe the Bible is the Word of God?
“My parents are liars and hypocrites! I don’t believe anything they tell me about Jesus! If they were able to lie to me about Santa, they probably lied about Jesus too!”
HOW SAD FOR THOSE CHILDREN! The chances are VERY HIGH that they will reject the Gospel of Jesus their entire lives and go to Hell, all because their parents lied to them about Santa Claus! THIS IS A DISGRACE.
Satan wins when parents (especially Christians) lie to their children about Santa Claus!
You see, Satan loves the myth of Santa Claus, because (like all false religions) Santa is a false god; and the purpose of all false gods is to turn the eyes of sinners, including children, away from the only Way to be saved: the Lord Jesus Christ!
John 14:6: “Jesus says to him, ‘I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man comes to the Father, except through me.’”
Satan does not care if you are an atheist, a muslim, a Hindu, a Buddhist, a Roman Catholic, or even a worshiper of Satan
Whether you are a Hindu that worships many false gods, or whether you are a Muslim that worships a Hindu idol called “allah”, or whether you are a Roman Catholic that worships Mary who is supposedly “the Queen of Heaven”, or whether you are a Baptist/Pentecostal/Charismatic that was never born again because they believed that the water of baptism washed away your sins, or whether you are an atheist who rejects God and the Bible: Satan does not care how religious you are or whether you are religious at all!
The only thing that Satan cares about is making sure that you never understand and believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ; and that you never repent of your sins and ask Jesus Christ to come into your life to save you!
Because if you do that, then you will escape his lies and become born again: a child of the King of kings and Lord of lords! The chains of Satan on your soul will be broken forever and ever; and that is what Satan wants to prevent at all costs!
Your damnation in Hell forever and ever is the highest priority of the devil! And for him, “the ends justify the means” to make that happen.
Conclusion: Santa Claus is actually the devil!
Parents! Don’t lie to your children about “Santa Claus”! You will destroy their trust in you FOREVER; and you will sow the seeds of rebellion in their lives against all authority, the police, the government, and especially against you when they become teenagers. Children should always know that their parents tell them the truth, and that they can be trusted. Parents should be the one place in the world where their children can go to for safety, security, and truth. When they grow up, they will understand if you were not correct but you did your best with what you knew. They will never understand, and they will never forget if you deliberately lied to them about Santa Claus or anything else!
Christian parents! You have a special responsibility to protect your children from Satan and his demons! If you don’t do that, Satan will come into their lives and destroy them. Always tell them the truth, and do not allow false gods to be displayed in your home; and do not promote Santa Claus at work or your church or anywhere! You cannot force others, but you can stop yourself from doing the wrong thing!
Now you know who Santa Claus really is. Remove every remnant of Santa Claus from your home; and you should oppose Santa Claus at your church also! As born again Christians, we need to be separated and sanctified from all false religions:
2 Corinthians 6:14 - 7:1: “Be not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what agreement has Christ with Belial? Or what part has he that believes with an infidel? And what agreement has the Temple of God with idols? For all of you are a Temple of the Living God; as God has said, “I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God; and they shall be my people.” ‘Therefore come out from among them, and be separate,’ says the Lord; ‘and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and will be a Father to you; and you shall be my sons and daughters,’ says the Lord Almighty.” Therefore having these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit; perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”
HOW TO BE SAVED
Would you like to know for sure that you will go to Heaven when you die? You can become a child of God today by faith in the Finished Work of Jesus Christ on the cross almost 2,000 years ago, and you can know that you will go to Heaven when you die.
Yield yourself to the one true God Jehovah, and repent of your sins and turn to the Lord Jesus Christ, who died on the cross for your sins, and rose again from the dead on the third day! He is the Son of God. Amen. There is no hope for salvation or Heaven in any religion, person, church, or work that you can do except in the Lord Jesus Christ Himself!
“Jesus says to him, ‘I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: NO MAN comes to the Father, but through me’” John 14:6.
You can be saved, right now, if you want to know that you have Eternal Life in Heaven waiting for you when you die! Use this prayer to repent and ask Jesus to forgive your sins and to come into your life, right now!
“Lord Jesus, I know that I have sinned against YOU. I am no good, and you are righteous! You are my only hope for salvation! I believe that you died on the cross for my sins, you were buried, and you rose again from the dead on the third day. I want you to come into my life and be my Lord and Savior. Please come into my heart right now. Forgive me for all my sins, and save my soul. In the mighty Name of Jesus, I pray, Amen!”
